The Great Outdoors. Has a nice size bar and buffet. Best of all, it's own soft-serve ice machine.

Beware; Safety, Service, and quality issues abound.

Review for a Caribbean - Southern Cruise on Norwegian Gem

While I didn't consider Norwegian a bargain basement cruise line, based on the poor service, facilities, practices and quality of food, it had all the characteristics of one. We had several issues with this particular cruise: 1) We took the "beverage package", which meant we had unlimited drinks. The catch was - you had to actually get a bartender to serve you. Forget service at the poolside ...

Too Many Passengers, Not Enough Crew

This was our 10th cruise but the first time cruising in Norwegian. Unfortunately it is likely to be our last with this line. The Gem and her crew just did not live up to the experiences that we've had in the past on celebrity, princess, royal Caribbean or carnival. We had the unfortunate and heartbreaking experience of witnessing a drowning at the pool on the first day at sea but I feel that can ...

For first time cruiser's... lack of communication by staff was the most frustrating and confusing thing. We missed out on our pull taps (our win's from Deal or No Deal) because my mom went to the lounge where they were suppose to be given and she was told it happened at a later time by the crew member in the lounge at that time so when we showed back up to that same lounge at the time we were ...

Less than desirable

Good things first: the entertainments were good. Multiple good choices of entertainments after the nightly show at the theater. Food is less than desirable. The buffet at the café was NJ diner quality at best. At the main dinner restaurant, quality is about chain restaurant quality and service is usually very slow and inconsistent. One night at the theater, the comic jokingly asked a late ...

1. Never could get into hot tub always filled with kids 2. Cigar Lounge smoke came into public area, could not sit there and listen to the piano. 3. Side dishes in specialty restaurants always cold 4. 24 hr restaurant decrease menu to bare minimums. 5. Murder Mystery on a scale of 1 -10 is a -10, They only offered chicken and fish for lunch I don't eat chicken so I was stuck with fish. ...

Some good, some bad, some ugly - SHIP IN GENERAL *Nice ship! Plenty of space. *For a 2007, it is really not aging well - needs to go to dry-dock, SOON! A big refresh and stem to stern cleaning is in order! Lots of stains, dirt, nicks, chips, and wear. *TV in stateroom was intermittent when we wanted information on it *SMOKING IS PREVALENT EVERYWHERE!!! I could not enjoy my balcony because of ...

We sailed 7/4 out of New York. This was our 2nd NCL cruise and 11th cruise overall. We were a total party of 15 people with 6 separate cabins; it was my Mom and us, her three children, with our families, celebrating her 70th birthday. Overall, the cruise was OK but we had some serious issues. We do cruise 1-2 times per year and this is the worst one in a long time! I will try to articulate but my ...

First of all let me start by saying that I have cruised before but only on Royal Caribbean. Needless to say that if I ever cruise again that is who I will be booking my next cruise with. I should have know the minute we walked into our stateroom that we were going to have a questionable time. Don't get me wrong we made lemonade out of the lemons we were given and had a nice vacation but no thanks ...

Disappointed in the Gem

We were a group of 14, my children and grandchildren in 4 cabins. I chose this cruise for its Nickelodeon activities for our young ones. Embarkation was smooth and we didn't have to wait to board the Gem. Once aboard, we decided to try the Grand Pacific Dining Room for lunch instead of the Garden Cafe buffet. Here was the first negative experience. Once seated at 3 separate tables and orders ...

This was a family cruise to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries .We arrived at the port 10:30AM .By 11:10 boarding began. We were aboard the ship at 11:30 and went to the MDR for lunch 15 minutes later .The food was very good . We then headed for our stateroom and met our Steward Audley who was excellent at his job .We unpacked relaxed a bit and went to the mandatory muster drill .The first time ...
