I originally chose this cruise because it was the only cruise out of NY that went to the Bahamas during the time period I was looking for. I was hesitant to cruise from NY to the Bahamas, as I worried about rough waters. The entire cruise was smooth sailing! We were on the ship by noon on embarkment day and eating at O'Sheehan's soon after. The staff throughout the ship were friendly and helpful. We ate at both main dining rooms (Magenta and Grand Pacific) and they were wonderful. We also tried Cagney's, La Cucina, and Tepenyaki....all were delicious and we experienced excellent service. We went to the main entertainment just about every night. My entire family ( including kids ages 13-21) enjoyed all of the shows. There was always something for all of us to do. We were in 3 separate Family Oceanview Rooms. The window was very large which made the room seem a bit bigger. For the ports, we took a shuttle to Cocoa Beach just to walk around and explore a bit. Great Stirrup Cay was very relaxing and beautiful. We went over to Blue Lagoon Island for a Dolphin Encounter in Nassau. That was the best stop. I highly recommend that place for families. There is so much to do. Disembarkment was the easiest I have ever experienced. You could get off the ship immediately, if you chose or stay for breakfast and hang out a bit, as we did. Overall, I would highly recommend the Norwegian Gem. Read Less

We spent 3 days in NYC beforehand exploring the city before boarding the Bahamas bound ship. As a father-daughter trip (11 yrs old) we had a great time! Boarding was smooth and we got our cabin right on time. The ship is older but well maintained, cabin small but clean and what we expected for an inside cabin. We dined in the main draining area all nights. Food was overall good, some exceptional dishes but overall ok. Shows were all great and really well orchestrated. My daughter and I looked forward to them every night. Pools were small but nice. It was good to have an adults only pool. Water slide was below expectation when compared to some newer ships but we know that in advance and made the best of it. We did Cocoa Beach to relax, great stir up snorkeling which was fun and Atlantis was a blast in Nassau although very pricey. For kids though it’s hard to beat! Read Less

Just returned from the Norwegian Gem Cruise to Orlando/Great Stirrup Cay/Nassau: 7/28-8/4. I will try to be as detailed as possible in order to help you all know what to expect on board. Embarkation Review: -Initial process was more smooth than I experienced on Carnival. However, it wasn't without its issues. We had a loud staff member yelling in an annoyed tone: "Have your passports out!" as we waited on line. That wasn't the friendliest manner in which to start the trip. Would suggest them to just have an automated system with a friendly reminder during the process. -Do check your luggage, and expect it to be delivered to your room around 4pmish, after the ship sets sail. Rooms are open around 1:30pm. -Cash vs. Credit Card Issue: While checking in, we wanted to put down cash and we were erroneously told we had to swipe a card. We swiped, but asked to speak to a manager, who confirmed we did not have to put down a card. We prepaid the gratuities ($203) and I put down $400 cash for my party of 2 to spend on board. I highly recommend using the cash method if you want to put a soft cap on spending and/or on a budget. I am glad I did this because the first day I was charged for two alcoholic beverages that I did not purchase. I would rather dispute with cash down, than involve my credit card company. Do not put down debit as the amount of their hold is unclear. Cash is the way to go. You don't have to put down $300 per person as stated on their website (it is just a suggestion). I ended up with $50 returned to me upon disembarkation which was nice. -Damaged luggage: My wife's duffel bag was damaged during baggage delivery and no one apologized. They fixed it, but the sew job was horrible and we will be writing for a reimbursement. Tip: You may want to only check your harder (more durable luggage), if your duffel bag is very expensive. Cabin Review: This is where the Gem shines. The room is comfortable, updated, and clean. The t.v. is really small, but that is not what you are there for, lol. One good feature in the room is that you can check your account balance daily. We were on the 8th floor, which has a more closed in balcony vs. the 9th floor, which was more open and seemed less private. The bathroom area was clean; the toilet area is a little small. I am 5"11 and found it cramped...However, I can't complain about anything else. My lady gets freaked out by anything dirty, and she found this highly acceptable. Dining: The food in the buffet area, the Garden Cafe, outshines the food anywhere else on the ship. The sit down dinners seemed hit or miss. I would not recommend the specialty dining package based on this experience. You are good with the bountiful complimentary food on board. The buffet had different themed nights, like Caribbean night and Asian night. There was something for everyone. Our specialty dining experience included Cagney's Steak house, which was just ok, and La Cucina, which was horrible Italian fare. Someone from our party went to the Hibachi spot, and thought it was good, but none of the cooks are Japanese, which removes some of the authenticity. The main tip here is don't pay for the specialty dining package, it's not worth it based on the choices. If you want to do specialty, choose one night to splurge and you should be o.k. Major plus: There is a 24 hour food spot on board in the middle of deck 7/deck 8 named Osheehan's. This was a great option for late night hunger attacks. Room service is also available 24/7 at a cost. Random tip: If you are not a seafood/pork eater, your options are reduced, since there is a heavy dose of shellfish/pork aboard. Drinks: Someone in our party had the unlimited alcohol package. I"m not a heavy drinker, so I didn't get that. If you are a heavy drinker, get it, as you will be paying out the nose for beverages. On the 12th deck, you can get complimentary fountain juices and water. At the bar, the sodas seemed overprice. Major Tip: Get the 6 1 liter water bottles for $14 to store in your room when you get thirsty. We thought that was the best deal of the trip. You don't want to get sick or really thirsty and hunt for bottled water. Bottled water at the bar cost $7 for 1! Entertainment and Activities: This was so/so. The cruise director did not seem to have the captivating personality one expects from that role. The Assistant Cruise director and others who graced the mike seemed to be a better fit. If you want a more conservative boat, with lots of relaxation time, this cruise will suit you. If you are looking to spend the day partying and drinking, there will be lulls in the entertainment. Club Bliss is the night spot on board. After 11:30pm, it's allegedly 18 and over. That was questionable. We had some young looking folks form a circle most nights and take over the dance floor, which was a buzz kill. On the second to last night (the all white after party) attracted more people to attend and the vibe was awesome. The pool/hot tub/deck area seemed like it didn't have the best design. Kids were in the jacuzzi and the chairs go quick if you don't get there early. Because of this, we only went on one of the days before there were too many bodies every where. The comedy shows were good. Although, we experienced an awkward "comedy/juggling" show that was not funny. The Gym is high quality for a cruise. There is a good amount of work out equipment and treadmills to keep everyone happy. I was never able to use the bench press though, because someone was hogging every time I visited. However, you should be able to get machinery and stay in shape throughout the cruise. There are your standard activity and event areas throughout the ship (dance classes, pay per swipe arcade, towel folding, art auctions, dance contests, etc.), along with some not so standard areas (Chapel, library, card room, rock climbing wall, golf net, checkers, enclosed basketball court) You can find what you are looking for, but some entertainment you will have to create on your own. Major plus with pictures: The cruise ship picture process is very organized. Carnival just displayed your photos for everyone to see, whereas these were organized in private binders. That was one of the best organized processes on the ship. Service: Service for the most part was good and we had no complaints. The sit down restaurants are slow (expect 1.5 hours for dinner) and sometimes they seemed overwhelmed or stressed by the share volume of diners. Norwegian does freestyle dining, but you can also make reservations. I suggest they switch to reservations because the freestyle dining seemed stressful to the workers and definitely impacted service. You are already paying $14 per person per day for gratuities and it is unclear how the money is divided, so it is up to you if you want to tip certain people directly for outstanding service. Ports and Shore excursions: This trip feels like too many days at sea for some reason. Near the end many people were thrilled to be getting off the boat! Orlando Port- We paid $16 for a shuttle and went to Cocoa beach where we rented chairs and umbrellas. Some in our group paid $69 for a shuttle to Universal Studios and then had to pay separately to enter the park. Seems like there should be more partnership between the theme parks and Norwegian for a special cruise package. This port was ok, but I could have probably had as much fun staying on the boat and taking advantage of an emptier boat for a few hours. Great Stirrup Cay- Be warned that great weather and good waters are both needed for you to see the private island. Thus, there is a 50/50 chance that the boat doesn't make this stop. Consider the time of year you book this trip and check the weather. We lucked out and had great weather. You take a tender(smaller) boat from the cruise ship to the island, because the water is too shallow for the ship to dock. If you fear this process, just stay on the ship. People did seem a little uncertain, especially after the duck boat accident in the United States. I think they should make us wear life jackets in case of an emergency. If the boat flips, it didn't seem like there would be enough time to pull the life jackets out amidst all the panic. I hope life jackets for such excursions become international law soon. The island was cool. There was music. Lunch between 12 and 2pm. Drinks available. Here you can also rent flotation devices and clam shells ($39) to keep out the sun. They only had one guy manning the clam shell station, and this made the process slow. The ride back to the ship was a little weird, because it was more unorganized. The last tender goes back to the ship at 6pm. I would suggest heading back between 3:45pm and 4:15pm to avoid the mad rush of folks for the last few tenders. Tip: Get you tender boat number ticket early on deck 12 because you can get prime seating if you are one of the first tenders to arrive. In addition, there was seating with ample shading, if you arrive early. Nassau, Bahamas Port: I have been to the Bahamas so I had more of a game-plan, which I will share shortly. A suggested excursion for first timers is the Blue Lagoon, where you can play with dolphins/sting rays (for a fee), have a more private beach, eat (for a fee), and play with a lot of flotation toys in the water. For veterans, I suggest: -Take a cab for $4 per person to a free beach. (We went to Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island, near Atlantis, but there is also Cable Beach or Junkanoo Beach on Nassau. You will be dealing with locals selling you unlimited drinks and beach chairs. If you can handle that, the water is worth it). You can walk through the free parts of Atlantis and take great photos. We then took a taxi to the "Fish Fry" on the Nassau side. This will be the best fried snapper anywhere in the world. Definitely a must have, paired with the rice. Try the conch if you want to increase your sexual prowess. TIP: Go after 2pm, to ensure that the catch of the day has been brought in. The fishermen bring in the fish daily from the sea and thus, the fish is extra fresh. Disembarkation: Just do the self assist checkout. You can be off the boat at 7:45 am, before the checked luggage disembarkation starts. Seeing all the luggage being laid out for people to claim after they got off the ship at 9am gave me anxiety. I don't even want to think about how chaotic that process was. Guest Services opens up at 5:30am on the day of disembarkation; settle your account as early as possible. For those with Children: There is something called the splash academy, and there are family events. However, the kids who would have the most fun seem to be in the 14-17 range. Not sure my 11 year old would have as much fun on this trip. There is a curfew for anyone under 18. They must be accompanied by an adult after a certain time. I probably wouldn't take this cruise again due to the length of time at sea and the limited time at each port. Also, we got lucky with Great Stirrup Cay, but seems like stopping at that port is a toss up. We would have been highly disappointed if we didn't stop there. I also wished the cruise director was more fun, she just didn't drum up any excitement. I hope you found this review somewhat helpful. Have fun on your vacation! Read Less

Having read recent reviews, I was questioning my choice of the Gem. The reviews were wrong. I have been going on cruises since I was 9 years old. We cruised at the peak of the old time cruise industry when cruises were very fancy. I still enjoy cruising and the Gem was a great experience and vacation. Yes, it is a smaller ship without the big slides and things of that nature, but it isn't all about the fluff. This ship & crew took great care of my family of 6 and we all had a great vacation. We had three inside cabins... yes cabins are small but how often are you in the cabin... our use of the cabin was primarily to sleep & change clothes. We found the cabin to have lots of storage space. I was in 11589. Our cabin steward was Jonathan. The cabin was always made up & spotless. My wife needed softer pillows and despite the ship being completely full, Jonathan found her pillows. We found the public areas to be well appointed and plentiful. Other than the pool deck, one never felt that there was 2500 guests on the boat. We very much enjoyed the shows in the Stardust Theater and the piano music and entertainer Justin Golan in Magnums Champagne bar. Spinnakers Lounge overlooking the front of the ship was beautiful and we enjoyed the Newlywed Game and the Perfect Couples games in that lounge. I suggest dinner in the Grand Pacific Dining Room... beautiful room. We tried to get the waiter Jaka and wine steward Marie every night. Food and variety was good as was the attention to detail. We ate breakfast a few times in the dining room before breakfasting at the buffet and sitting at the Great Outdoors to enjoy the view off the back of the ship. Lunch was always on the pool deck and there were many options... from charcoal bbq to a buffet. Yes the pool deck gets crowded, but why wouldn't it... everyone wants to be outside. There were plenty of chairs to sit in either on the pool deck or in the deck above overlooking the pool. The adult pool was big enough for all to enjoy and was kept clean. If you like pictures, I would suggest buying a picture pkg before you depart. The savings pre-voyage is tremendous. I was able to get 11 beautiful pictures, a picture of the ship and a USB of my pics for $149. On board the pics sell for $24 each. I don't really know why Port Canveral is a port of call. However the private island is fabulous. Drink pkg can be used there and there is lunch from 12-2 prepared by the ship at a kitchen on the island. We did the waterpark at the Atlantis in Nassau... while expensive, I highly recommend. Don't let the reviews turn you away from the GEM. It was a great cruise. Read Less

This was definitely not our best cruise experience. We have been on eight cruises and this one was average at best. I would not recommend going on this cruise. First, it's a nightmare getting into New York City. When we boarded, we quickly realized that in addition to a very stained carpet, the room we were assigned had a rancid smell in the bathroom. We reported this three times, they worked on it and nothing really changed. The boat is older and doesn't have any of the ammenities we are used to. Nothing fun to do during the day. We were very bored since the only daytime entertainment seems to be games where they are taking more of your money or more games that are free but not fun. We would have even settled for a good movie but they play them only in public places with so much noise you can't enjoy the show. The evening shows were not bad but the same Norwegian cast performed three times out of the six shows. We did really enjoy both comedy shows with Stephen Scott. He was the highlight of the entertainment on board. The food was pretty good but the servcie wasn't up to par with other cruiselines. Wait staff was not overly attentive or fast. We typically have lobster night on every cruise but not this one. The other thing that got me was that they tout free gratuities. This is not true. It's free gratuities for drinks if you purchae the package with drinks included. Everything else is considered a Service Fee and you get hit with another $100 per person at the end of the cruise. That is what everyone else considers gratuities. Overall, this cruise was expensive for the level of service and ammenities you receive. I felt this cruise was more like a Carneval Cruise for a lot less money. I'm sticking with Royal Caribbean from now on. Read Less

This was our fourth time on the same cruise on NCL Gem. We chose it again because we love the ship and it is just the right size. Living in CT, leaving from NYC is so convenient. We drove from Stratford, CT to Pier 88 and parked a few blocks away. We got to the pier early, at about 9:30a and were through security and check in by about 10am. Boarding started shortly after 11a and it was the smoothest. easiest boarding yet. After walking around the ship a little and seeing what was updated, and checking out the action up on the pool/buffet deck, we were able to get into our mini suite and check it out before heading to the Grand Pacific main dining room for lunch at noon. After lunch, we did a little more exploring and by 1:30p our luggage arrived at our room and we were able to unpack and relax a bit before the mandatory life boat drill. 15 minutes later the ship set sail at 3p. Dinner the first night was in the Grand Buffet, but the waters were really rough and it made eating difficult for 2 of the 3 people in our party, even though the food was fabulous. After some Dramamine and a little lay down, everything was fine and it was down to the casino after the 7p first night show in the Stardust theater. We had the 3 night specialty restaurant package and the unlimited beverage package, so we had dinner at Moderno, Le Bistro and Cagney's 3 of our 7 nights. All of our other dinners we ate at Grand Pacific and they were all great! I have to say that our favorite dinner was at Le Bistro. The food and the atmosphere were fabulous and sharing the chocolate fondue for dessert is an absolute must! We did have a couple of breakfasts and lunches at the Garden Buffet, but most times we liked eating those meals in the Grand Pacific. It is so much more relaxed and the noise and chaos is totally lacking there compared to the buffet, where people just seem compelled to stack their plates as high as possible. The entertainment was really good this time too. We caught the 7p shows at the Stardust every night before heading to the casino and up for a late snack/dessert at the buffet or at the Magenta main dining room. The lounge at the champagne bar usually had some really good music each night too. As usual, my main issue was with NCL's lack of willingness or ability to seem to provide kid-free zones for the "paying" adults, and very often the spaces which are supposed to be kid free are not enforced by the staff. After cruising to Bermuda last year (2017) from NYC on the Breakaway, just because we wanted to try one of the large ships, we decided the Gem and the mid-size ships are really our favorites. Even though the Breakaway holds almost twice as many passengers as the Gem, the public spaces are all smaller on the Breakaway. The theater, bars, restaurants and lounges on the Gem were larger and far less crowded than the Breakaway, so we are going mid-sized from now on. The staff on the Gem were outstanding too, especially our room steward Edwin and the cleaning and maintenance staff who seemed to work 24/7 during the entire trip. Our room steward Edwin knew our names on day one and called us by name every time we saw him in the hallway, which was a lot, and he saw to our every need. The cruise destinations (Cape Canaveral, Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau) were adequate, but there really is not much of interest in Cape Canaveral once you have seen the Kennedy Space Center, and there just isn't enough time to go to any of the Orlando theme parks to make the trips worth while. (You arrive in Cape Canaveral at 1p and depart at 9p) Great Stirrup Cay is fabulous and breathtaking, but it seems to be quickly approaching the point of being "over-developed" and at some point soon, I hope NCL will stop making improvements and let the island remain a little undeveloped. Nassau is just not a destination that we enjoy anymore, after having been there 5 times now. The locals just bombard you as you get to the end of the pier into downtown Nassau and they are in your face constantly trying to get your money, simply because they think you have it and you should give it to them. Thankfully, next year NCL is replacing the Nassau stop with a stop at Grand Bahama Island. All in all, the cruise was great, and I really have little or nothing to complain about. Read Less

The staff was very attentive and friendly. They did not know what else to do for us. The bartenders (Justin and Eric) we had upstairs overlooking the pool were amazing. I can't say enough about them. The private island (Great Stirrup Cay) was beautiful. If you go there you need to go to the Bacardi Hut as that is in the middle of the island. Also we loved the women that stand in front of the cafe as they great you with, washy washy, happy, happy. The food was also amazing. There was so many different restaurants you can go to. They have Chinese; Italian; Brazilian & so much more. I would definitely recommend this ship, especially if it's your first cruise. Read Less

Everything was incredible and we can't wait to go cruising again! The ship is starting to show it's age, it's still plenty great! Cabin was clean and the housekeeping staff was always friendly and professional! The dining rooms were all amazing, Modernero was an experience. Cagney's was amazing, even the atrium cafe's staff made a simple cafe and bar somewhere you want to go to and chat with the staff, who over the week, become more friends than cruise staff. There are always activities going on, even when there isn't the TV programming isn't bad (resolution was pretty terrible though) The games are fun and you get a feeling that the staff are having just as much fun as you are! The service was top notch, food was always tasty the correct temperature and flavorful. Getting off the ship for excursions was easy and not complicated at all (wish I had more time at Universal though! 4 hours isn't enough!) All together the wife and I cannot wait to go on our next cruise (probably with Norwegian) and hopefully sooner rather than later. Read Less

I chose this cruise line for my first cruising experience. Needless to say I wasn’t aware of some of the things I should expect from cruising. In retrospect, I would not cruise out of NY again as I felt as if it took forever to get to our destination. In total we spent 3-4 days at sea, which to me was not worth the money. I didn’t find that there were enough activities for tweens on this ship. Many of the activities that I recall were for adults. We quickly tired of the food, which was mostly American food. I was disappointed we spent a day in the Bahamas and only experienced plantains and more American food. I just came from Jamaica on a land trip and there was a wealth of Caribbean food: fish, jerk pork, jerk chicken, goat, etc... Finally, the biggest frustration was the whopping $800 bill. We only went on two excursions. We ordered in one day. I was careful not to accumulate charges and I didn’t. There were countless fees from Norwegian daily. Because of this, I will not travel with Norwegian again. I didn’t like that you had to put money on a card as opposed to paying with your debit card for each transaction . Read Less

Bar and casino service were average but when issues were brought to their attention they dealt with the issue appropriately and timely. Casino service was excellent. Craps table needed better training you are losing money by not having good staff on the table. The leaving of the ship is a horrible process. We chose this cruise because it was leaving out of new york and we wanted to save in the airfare. Our family consisted of a mom, dad, and a 12 year old. We traveled with another family with another 12 year old. The service was really good, especially the cabin. Food is general restaurants, was okay at best....most of the buffets were the same food over and over. The specialty steak place and Italian food were really good and are highly recommended. Where the main problem occurs is that both 12 year olds were constantly bored. The kids club groups kids off, and the one they were in was 10-12, which was fine except at night time, all the kids under 12 are in the same room. It was like a day care center running from age 2 to 12. They never wanted to go, which didn't allow for too much adult time. There is only one basketball/soccer place and it is generally closed by 9. Not sure why it couldn't stay open later, it is not like any one was actually supervising it. So the cruise is not for anyone who has kids in the 10-12 range. Read Less

We were invited to cruise on the Norwegen Gem by our daughters Girl Scout troop, it will be their last get together before they all go off to college in the fall. It was a GREAT cruise experience for us. We were able to get an upgrade to a penthouse, My family will never forget this experience.from the moment we showed ID in NYC to leaving the boat 7days later was top notch.the cabin was beautiful, luxurious.the view from the aft of the boat, sitting on the lounge were beautiful. The staff,we had a butler, concierge and cabin steward were fantastic. We had to ask for nothing, everything you could ask for was there, champagne, chocolate covered strawberries daily, chocolate chip cookies, awsome.we were in cabin 10664 aft.the food was great,we didn't have a bad meal at any restaurant we ate in. The service was wonderful. We were able to celebrate out wedding anniversary with dinner at Cagneys restaurant, the waiters sang to us, very romantic.the boat was very clean. They make sure you sanitize your hands befor going into the dining halls. I had a massage also, very nice spa. The weather wasn't the best when we were in ports, but we did fine. We visited the zoo in Nassau, the flamingo show was worth sitting in the heat. Really cute. My daughter was out in the pool, hot tub or dancing every night. I would like to cruise again. This was a great family vacation, memories to cherish. Read Less

We were very impressed by NCL. The dining choices, entertainment, beverage package, activities, and the professionalism of the entire staff on board made this cruise one of my top two vacations ever. We Loved the freestyle dining options. We loved how here was no need to set a time to eat , just show up and be hungry. We also bought a few dinners at the specialty restaurants which were tasty. The food over all was fabulous and impressive. My husband and I had the adult beverage package , which I highly recommend if you enjoy alll you can drink high end cocktails . We were impressed by the drinks they made . Didn’t skinp on the alcohol and they will use whatever liquor you ask for. The “Gem” was a tad smaller boat so we could feel the waves more often than not. That’s probably the only downfall if I had to name one. NCL made our vacation memorable! Read Less

We choose this ship because of convenience and the destinations! The ship departed from New York. Which was a big + for us! The ship heads to FL Orlando beaches Port Canaveral, Bahamas Great Stirrup Cay & Nassau Bahamas The embankment was too fast we had 5 hours to both places but it seem so short with amount people to get off & get on the boat it took a lot of time wasted. The food was not our favorite which was a big disappointed because my family are big foody people. We expected more of a gourmet meals not too many choices to choose from. During the day there were pretty much The same things to do ! Overall The entertainment like the shows were great & also the musical groups. But other then that the staff were friendly and excellent people from all around the world and there customer service were great! Read Less

WE chose this cruise because it was a AAA group trip, they took care of everything for us, booking, transportation to and from the ship, it just made the trip a care free adventure. My only complaint was way to many kids for my liking, they were everywhere, running around the hallways, the buffet, the pool area, it seemed like the parents were nowhere to be found, but that's to be expected at that time of the year. The ship and the crew were excellent, the dining options were very good and plentiful. The bars and entertainment were top notch, all in all I would highly recommend NCL to anyone thinking of taking a cruise. One thing I thought was a bit odd was that they made us through out a bottle of water prior to boarding the ship. I mean come on WATER! Then I saw why; they wanted you to buy their water package once you got on board. Even with a $80 a day beverage package they still charged you for water, REALLY! All the booze you want but no water?? Read Less

Embarkation and disembarkation were very smooth. The crew were very nice and the food was excellent. The size of the ship was perfect for us. We loved the spa. The shows were great also. Although I didn't care for the Garden Cafe my husband enjoyed it but I did like one crew member there named Mantombi Ndldvu who was such a sweet and happy lady she could make everyone happy too. In Florida we went to to Sky Icon ( that's what they call it now), the aquarium and the wax museum and enjoyed them all also. Our cabin was nicely decorated for our anniversary and they had flowers (which lasted the whole cruise), chocolate covered strawberries and for us non-alcoholic wine that was included in our romance package. We didn't travel with the children. Great Stirup Cay was great except you have to walk over rocks to get farther away from the shore to swim so it suggest you wear swim shoes. We both agree we would go again maybe try the Dawn,Getaway or the Escape. Read Less

I don’t even know where start!!! Me and my wife cruise a lot we normally cruise Royal Caribbean but we had a bad experience years ago with Norwegian and decided to give it another chance. The crew on Norwegian are very dull unlike Royal Caribbean when we where at pool the person doing game couldn’t get people into it when we tried to talk to people at front desk they where unprofessional talked down to you. The big one was the food on this ship was beyond horrible. I ate better food at Mc Donald’s. The bottom line is we gave it another chance and years later it’s the same. So definitely look into another cruise line besides Norwegian. I know a lot of people complain cause something went wrong on cruise but I’m just giving out advice to that person that is going to cruise for there first time and don’t want them to be disappointed. To add one more thing I was waiting on line at service desk heard a customer complaining of carbon monoxide in there room and person at front desk said to them they will send someone down to clean room again then when customer got furious I started video taping which I think I will be handing over to news and see what they think. Aside from the Gem's pool deck it was ok, but the pools were really awful! Cramming 2,000 people into 2 backyard-sized pools. The "Main Pool" is like a mosh pit for kids and parents, no rules, no lifeguards... and the "Adult Pool" is crowded with drunk couples cuddling. The whole pool deck feels like Times Square during peak hour - a lot of noise and a thousand people in your face. I think people who like this ship are the people who like drinking and partying, regardless of the atmosphere. The giant slides were disappointing, most people got stuck and had to push themselves through. We have 3 kids, and I took my 2-year old into the only kiddie pool, which was a tiny slide into a big puddle, and the whole area is enclosed so it's sweltering! The restaurants were pretty good, especially O'Sheehan's and the Grand Pacific (main) dining room. The cafe is a disaster! The food there is terrible. It seems like a big selection at first but most of it isn't stuff you really want, and if it is, it's not prepared well. We went to the Churrascaria one night. Prices were very reasonable, but the food was "meh" and definitely not Brazilian... The Chinese restaurant serves the smallest portions I could imagine. Tasty, but small. As a ship-wide policy, we avoided all chicken dishes because it was very tough and dry everywhere! Stick with the main dining rooms and O'Sheehans, you'll survive! I was kind of disappointed that people didn't dress a little nicer for the dining rooms. Some did, but the overall mood of the ship was t-shirts and shorts at dinner. We didn't spend much time in any of the ports. The cruise was more about the ship than the destinations, which was ok because Great Stirrup Cay (NCL's island) was just as crowded as the ship itself, but I would've liked another day in the Bahamas. The nightly entertainment was top notch! The crew and staff are super friendly - everyone looks you in the eye, smiles, and says good morning or hello, everyone is helpful. Read Less

The ship is nice a little small needs some updates. Disappointed in the shops on board very few. Crew and staff friendly and helpful but not a lot of crew walking around by the pool to get drinks like on other ships I have been on. Entertainment was good. Same food everyday at the barbecue. Buffet was chaotic hard to find seats. I would definitely telling everyone not to book the Disney excursion not worth the price. You have to pay the full price and only get about 4-4 1/2 hrs there as it takes 1 hour in travel time from the ship to the park and another hour back. Every hot and crowded not much time to do anything. Can not believe they charge the full price not even a discount for only 4 hrs and no special treatment because you are on the cruise with limited time. Over all it was nice but don’t do the Disney excursion. Read Less
