We chose this cruise ( our first transatlantic) because of the itinerary. Interesting ports of call and the longest batch of sea days was four in a row, compared with some others of up to nine in a row.

We had booked the TA from New York to Civitavecchia for both 2020 and 2021. Of course, COVID interrupted those plans, so we were finally able to cruise in 2023. Booked a transatlantic fm NYC to Rome. The ship (Breakaway) is in need to major cleaning and updating. Food in complimentary restaurants, while plentiful, is bland and not usually very hot. Specialty restaurants a little better, but meals can take up to 3 hrs to complete. Even specialty menus are limited and not enticing. This was my second time on the Gem. Despite the ship's fanbase, I'm still on the fence about it's allure. The floorplan is not always user friendly, and advances to the industry since its launch seem clumsily and sometimes illogically squeezed into the deckplans. A nice transatlantic cruise. I will cut NCL some slack as I know cruising is just resuming and things are still pretty unsettled. Besides we missed a port (Azores) due to bad weather so we had (too) many sea days which became quite monotonous.

- Check-in very good after we figured out there was a separate area for 'suite' check-in. Wouldn't have enjoyed the long lines we began with.
