A Disappointment

Review for a Caribbean - Eastern Cruise on Explorer of the Seas

Having cruised for 35 years on a multitude of ships, I have seen the decline of the cruise experience first-hand. From the cheapening of the menu offerings to the boilerplate entertainment of second-rate comedians and under-rehearsed "broadway" revue type shows, to fewer and cheaper on-board activities and the relentless attempts to shake as much profit from such things as "premium" restaurants to ...

Before we left, I read a lot of reviews as part of my researching process. We had never cruised before and had nothing to compare it to. We tried not to have high expectations after reading some of the negative comments. We were so pleasantly surprised!! On May 2, we arrived in Bayonne. We chose to save a little money and use Premier Parking. It was a five minute shuttle ride to the ship, so we ...

My husband and I just returned from a Caribbean cruise March 5th to 15th on the Explorer. This was our third cruise on Royal. It was our first cruise without our children, and our first winter cruise. We had a rocky start as the ship got caught in a winter storm at sea. So our second day was spent mostly in our room due to the tossing about. Thank goodness for our very experienced captain who kept ...

I will say the ship is lovely and in great shape. The decor is more understated then Carnival which is nice. The ship is very clean and well maintained. We arrived at Cape Liberty at 11:00am, we were held in the big, cold terminal for about 45 minutes.Once we got the shuttle to the ship it was smooth sailing (or quick boarding). The terminal was a very negative experience. Cold, crowded and no ...

This was our first time embarking out of Bayonne. It was a breeze! Chilly due to it being February, but no issues. We booked parking through Premium Parking, slightly cheaper than at pier. They picked us up and took us back to car as well. Check in was easy. We had arrived about 10:30, did not board the ship till about 12:30-1pm so we had to wait in a waiting area. The ship seems to need some ...

My husband, six year old son and I just returned from a 9 night cruise on board the Explorer of the Seas. Having cruised on Carnival, Norwegian and Disney we thought we knew the routine. We were wrong! I have also worked on cruise ships. I worked as a production singer for 5 years for Celebrity Cruises and Costa Cruises (yes Captain Schettino was my safety officer on board the Costa ...

We arrived at perhaps the worst embarkation port on the east coast. This area has not changed since WWII, utilizing 1930 type Navy Buildings that have not been refurbished since the 1940-1950. We were checked in promptly at 1015AM and proceeded to wait in the dingy building until 1200PM. It then took another 20 minutes to board a bus which drove us less than 800-1000 ft to the ship. Boy,I was glad ...

we were on the 12/13/2012 cruise. everyone knows the hassels getting on the ship, so i'm not even going to address it. it is what it is. after getting into room, we had a handicapped room, so it was large, went to windjammer for a lunch. Gee! the food was bad from day one. it never got better, never any selection, and it got progressively worse as the days went by. the lunch menu in dining room ...

Nine Nights on the Explorer of the Seas

The sailing was in late November for 9 nights from Bayonne, NJ with ports at San Juan, St. Thomas, Samana, DR and RC's private island Labadee, Haiti. Embarkation was a nightmare with traffic backed up at the approach to the luggage drop off and check-in so that it took about an hour from entry to the port to the counter. The counter check in process was easy and fast. The ship itself is an "old ...

Just got back from the Explorer 9 night cruise. We had a great time however there are some serious problems with this particular ship that really need addressed. Sadly with this particular cruise ship being almost sold out continuously I doubt anyone will do anything. Why should they when people seem to continuously make excuses for the management of this ship. This cruise left on August 2nd with ...
