A very enjoyable experience! This was our second cruise this year. Although the NCL Spirit did not have the acclaim of the more popular and larger NCL Dawn, this was still a very memorable sailing for my wife and I. Because we were Latitudes members, embarkation was achieved within 15 minutes of our arrival at 11:30 am. What made this trip significant was the total fare for our passage compared to our earlier sailing. It truly paid to watch last minute offerings and especially so with AARP. If you've reached the half century mark like us, it will reward you in dividends to become a member. On Sept. 14th I reviewed the weekly AARP newsletter and had never previously reviewed their travel section. When I discovered the paltry sum they were asking for the six day cruise from NYC to Port Canaveral, Nassau and Stirrup Key; I could not believe it and immediately jumped on the offering. We sailed on 9/24 and could not have chosen a better bargain. No hurricane or foul weather to disrupt this voyage. Because we were Latitudes members we were given an upgrade in our stateroom from the lowest level to the next higher level on deck 5. On the dawn we had a beautiful balcony suite and had thought we were totally spoiled and would not enjoy being relegated to the bowels of the ship. We were truly so wrong about that. Although we only had a rather large but picturesque portal it made for rather enjoyable viewing. Upon embarkation we observed that we were literally among the first to board and thus took advantage of making reservations at the premium restaurants. Little did we know that during the entire week 50 percent discounts were offered every day of the week if you were available for the seating at 5:30 and 6:00 pm. Reservations had to be made early in the day for this discount. As far as we were concerned 50 percent off was a real bargain as well. Unfortunately we were only able to cancel one reservation and re-make it for an earlier seating. Each of the specialty restaurants compared favorably to their counterparts on the NCL Dawn except for Italian restaurant, La Trattoria. The quality of the food was the same however this venue did not have it's own housing and was co-located aft of the port buffet on deck 12. The biggest negative of this cruise was the quality of the staff. While there were numerous over achievers, there were quite a few others who obviously were new to the game and not quite up to par. I have read some of the other reviews and one that we share concerns the quality of service at the Lagoon Restaurant which was not quite adequate. Some of the noteworthy staff include: Mr. Joseph at Cagney's; Prince Charles at Le Bistro and Magdalena at the Casino Bar. Each of these individual is a seasoned veteran, quite versed in their trade and willing to go the extra length to assure exceptional service. Not that we are fitness freaks, but we do enjoy getting our daily exercise in and we decided to go straight to the gym after making our dinner reservations for the week. We again were pleasantly surprised to find that the gym although smaller than that on the NCL Dawn was still adequate. The superiority of the NCL Spirit gym was that the cardio equipment is aligned forward to aft as opposed to port to starboard on the NCL Dawn. Believe it or not it does make a difference in the comfort level in being able to avoid the tendency to be thrown about when on either the elliptical or treadmill. Also the golf driving range on the NCL Spirit is superior to the NCL Dawn by virtue of the size of the 4 side by side lanes as opposed to the two smaller versions on either port or starboard side of the NCL Dawn. The bottom line is that if you truly enjoy cruising and are privilege to find a bargain as we were able to do, don't hesitate to take advantage of such an outstanding opportunity. Read Less
