Sailed with a group of about 40 neighborhood friends and kids (ages 7-19) and had a great vacation on the Carnival Sunshine out of NYC. We are in our mid 40s and haven't cruised in 20 years (also with Carnival). Forgot how much fun you could have just on the ship and much has changed for the better. Ports were Grand Turk, Half-Moon Cay and Nassau, Bahamas. Overall, we had an epic vacation for the ages that was supported by the very good service and professionalism of the Sunshine Staff. We partied and played like rock stars and they made sure we always felt like we we on vacation. While this was not a "luxury" cruise line, we sailed with many folks from the tri-state area and knew that the fun would be active and loud (which suited us fine.) Cheers package- Worth it if you are active drinkers or if you prefer higher end drinks and will have more than a few every day. It was easy for us to spend the $100 a day in what it cost my wife and I. We made a game out of finding the best drinks such as mixed tropical drinks. If you have a drink or two, pay as you go. Ports: Grand Turk - Walk right through Margaritaville which you are practically herded into upon arriving. We went with only two ships in port and it was mobbed and party-centric (read frat boys cheering rump-shakers from the pool). The beach is good and kids liked to pool but we could have had that experience anywhere. Even Parrotheads would say that the themed drinks and kitsch is a little much. We wish we would have proceeded to Jack's Shack or an excursion where we could have wasted away somewhere other than a major-league tourist trap. Food was good and prices were what you would expect . Nachos were $22 but worth it for what you got. My over-proof rum and coke was $15 but it was mostly rum and a splash of coke. Half-moon Cay - Wow! Way more than I expected. Beautiful beach that rivals any I have visited in the Caribbean (including Koki Beach in St. Thomas). We were fortunate to secure a cabana (#13) further down the beach. I would recommend trying to book this or get on the waiting list. My wife found an email here on CC and we ended up getting it after being wait-listed. It was a great oasis with a shower, A/C, some food and soft-drinks, snorkel gear and floats. Worth the $279 they charge for a group of four. Plenty of lounge chairs and being down the beach was more private and relaxing. Spent most of the day in the water. Nassau - Passed on Atlantis. Coming in to port, IMHO Atlantis looks like a large pile of dung on a rosebush. We headed to the British Colonial Hilton that we booked on Resortforaday.com. It was a nice hotel that gave us use of the pool and beach for a reasonable price per person ($60 per adult, $40 for 12 and under with $40 per person credited back for food). Worth it. I visited the Graycliff Hotel, cigar and chocolate factory which is one block up the hill and had a great time viewing this spectacular historical gem. Everything is pricey but there is real quality here based on my sampling of the cigars and chocolate. Property is from another time and shows its age with grace, style and class. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I would have loved to stay here but felt privileged just to visit. Had a nice experience with a cab driver on way back who was effusive in his praise and appreciation for the USA and what it had done for his family scattered all over the country. Boat - Alcehemy bar has he best and most inventive mixed drinks on the ship and they are worth waiting for when busy. Red Frog pub has a lot of fun games for both kids and adults. We had fun shutting down college kids in beer pong and the kids had epic tournaments with the table top shuffleboard game. Staff was as excellent as we remember from 20 years and work just as hard (and long). While tips were included, we brought $1 bills and tipped where it struck us. Also took care of select staff at the end because they really are the best. Food was still very good both in the dining room and as available in casual settings. Guy's (Fieri) Burgers was surprisingly "legit" and easily available on the pool deck. The taco bar was also great for lunches. Pool bars were busy during the day and it was easier to walk back to the Havana Bar behind the buffet and experience half the wait. Dining room service was great and our staff (Bernard, Evgen and Suisli) were efficient and attentive. Plenty for kids to do with water slides, games and ropes course. We were able to create a great balance of family and adult time. We could have relaxed more than we did but we're not that old yet (though feeling it more and more everyday). Read Less

First cruise-- was absolutely DE-lighted!!! Carnival staff all were helpful, friendly, and very accommodating. Cabin with two twin beds, 2nd deck aft, was more than ample with closet & drawer space aplenty. Bathroom certainly adequate with a nice shower. Restaurants were well-staffed with wonderfully pleasant servers. Food was outstanding and menu selections were fabulous!!! Overall, I was extremely pleased with this rather short trip. Now I'm looking forward to taking a longer cruise! Very helpful stewards -- asked to have ice in the room every evening -- he brought it morning AND evening! Listening to loud music on the serenity deck was annoying (remember why folks are there -- for peace and quiet away from noise!) The extremely l-o-n-g lines to prepare to embark are not much fun, especially in hot weather. And the disembark process was a bit scattered (to say the least). Folks don't read directions, it seems. Nor do they listen to directions well, either! Read Less
