We've done 4 cruises total with Royal Caribbean and I was a little hesitant to do a cruise on the Anthem after reading some of the reviews about how crowded the "mega ships" were. We chose this cruise because of the itinerary and not many lines do the Caribbean in May.
We did enjoy our cruise but will not be choosing to do any with Royal Caribbean again.

The ship was not as great as everyone made it sound. Everything being located in a general area made it feel overcrowded during the cruising days. You also feel like you are being herded like cattle whenever there was an event or even trying to get to the Windjammer dinning room (the buffet).

The ship was beautiful and well-maintained. Room was comfortable, even with two teenagers and our housekeeper was great! The main dining room service was excellent - food was great most nights. I wanted a cruise that was more than 7 days; it seems that 7 just isn't enough any more; you just get relaxed and its time to go home. I would have done a 12 day but have a hard time getting something to fit in. Everything worked out well; we were offered an upgrade to a junior suite and we took it. This boat is huge but there is only one 6 foot circle of concrete for kids in swim diapers. They're not allowed in any pools at all. The staff was not knowledgeable about the boat or activities. on the first day, we were barricaded in the balcony stateroom due to ship employees blocking the door which opens outward, with suitcases. called guest service only to be on hold for 30+ minutes, and ended up forcing door open to get out for " safety video" and injured hand. to this day, guest services would not comment on the issue and still waiting to hear back from royal.

I was disappointed when I walked into the ship, I didn’t have the “WOW” experience as with Oasis of the Seas. In Anthem, they cramp so many rooms which it took away the open space from the public areas such as the main street in Oasis, Freedom and Voygers of the Sea classes, which make this ship like any other cruise line ships nothing special about it.
