Overall, a very stressful and disappointing cruise. Big crowds with no chairs at the pool, waiting in long lines to make dinner reservations, the crowed atrium with no where to sit and tons of rude and obnoxious drunk people. It is very stressful trying to make all your dinner and show reservations 60 days ahead and if you can't do that you are forced to wait in long lines in in the terminal or on the ship to make them. In the future will sail a different line that offers a set time, as I find that less stressful, easpcially when traveling with larger group. The unlimited drink package seems to have a negative effect on most cruisers as they are very loud, sloppy and looking for fights. Had a very bad experience (cruise critic will not publish) onboard. Let's just say watch your children very carefully as family parties mix drunk adults with children. We have video of drunks jumping off the deck above the pool after it closes and fights breaking out. If your looking for a booze cruise gone wild, then this is the ship for you!!!! I will stick with the cruise lines that offer smaller ships and offer a better experience. Read Less

I don’t even know where to begin with how bad our experience with the Norwegian escape has been. We stayed in a mini suite room with my husband and 2 kids ages 6 and 8. The worst of it all was the pool area. They have 2 pools on the ship andif you are researching and looking up the ship it does not tell you anywhere that the big pool is adults only for the whole week. And the “kids” pool is not much bigger than a hot tub with 100’s of kids trying to swim. We never got a lounge chair for even 1 day that we were there. you have to stand and watch your kids with a100 other parents. All while the adult pool. Not even 20 feet away is like mtv spring break going on with super intoxicated kids twerking and being sloppy drunk. With sexy leg and ab competitions going on right where your kids and see it. The water slides are 1/2 hour wait at all times. The 3rd water slide the kids can not even go on because they have to be 99lbs to even go on it. Everywhere you go is loud dance party music. The food is mediocre at best. We did not get the upgraded dinner package so we’re forced to the garden cafe( which is a cafeteria) or 3 other “dining rooms” that make you think it is fancy dining but in reality it is just The same kind of food from the cafeteria. We had stomach issues all week from the food. The crowds in the dining areas were ridiculous. People were so rude, bumping into other people and hard to find seats in the cafe. There is a arcade for the kids which is all extra money. Ends up to being about 1$/min. Our kids won 800 tickets and we went to cash them in on the last day there was nothing left to choose from. And the staff never refills the prize bins. At least 1/2 of the shows cost extra. They had a bingo night and it was raining and we thought it would be fun for the kids and after 1/2 hour wait I’m line. We find out it’s 70$ to play the game Read Less

Went on the cruise for extended family vacation. Worse cruise I've ever been on. To many people. Not enough space. I would stay in the city if I wanted people to constantly bump into me. Not enough shows that were free. First cruise I've been on you had to pay for a real show. All the rest were singing only. Definately not enough smoking areas. Bad enough I'm a second class citizen in the US the boat had three in the worst places possible. Needs more than one Adult pool. Couldn't get near it during the days at sea. Needs to show movies in the theater more than 3 times a week. Buffet was not that good. Layout of ship very poor. Had to walk miles to go from one part to another. Not relaxing at all. Cruised on Norwegian 30 years ago. This trip did not compare in the least. No shows during dinner with the waiters. Just a bad trip. Read Less

Food was terrible in all the places on this ship. We were in all the main dining rooms & 3 specialty restaurants. Pools were sad. They were either way too overcrowd or closed for an event or cleaning. Chairs were impossible to get if the pool was actually open. Service was average and most others were also complaining. Room was okay, basic room, normal balcony. It felt like they tried to cram too many people on one boat and forgot about creating space to breathe. The entertainment on the boat was okay but poorly planned as they jumped from one theme to the next. I was very excited to try this as the pictures looked great but was disappointed. If you want something basic for a ton of money than this is the cruise for you. Royal Caribbean is so much better and I suggest sticking with them. Not worth double the price for half the experience. I was excited to travel from New York to Bermuda on this new ship but it was not an experience that I would recommend. I would not recommend traveling with Carnival or taking this particular ship. If you do, bring your patience, there will be a lot of waiting and subpar service. I was disappointed from the check in line. It took over an hour to get through the check in (maybe if you get there earlier you will wait less. Idk). After the check-in, the trip was an endless experience of waiting for elevators, a seat at breakfast in the Lido Marketplace, a lounge chair at the pool side movie, a cabana in the adult-only resort, everything! It was just lots of people and slow service (waiting 20 minutes to order a drink at the bar). Additionally, the service was bad and awkward. We did dine on your own time dining, the dining room was on one floor but the reservation spot was two floors up and around a corner (did I mention the slow elevators). The app did help with this but we used the app several days and we would get to the dining room (on-time) and they had reassigned our table, tried to sit us at tables that were already seated, and we waited 10 or more minutes once seated for service. One night, they told that they just sat two large parties and would have to wait a while for bread and water. The hostess was rude, unapologetic, and often acted distracted. Once seated, we waited a long time and the food was not good. We tried almost all the restaurants, Guys Burger Joint was by far the best (and free). The Seafood spot had a long line and did not have all the items on the menu. The pizza was also very good (20+ minute wait in the line). We stayed in the Family Harbor area, the lounge was also packed always (no seats, plates, silverware available). The scheduled food service in that lounge was inconsistent. One day, they did not bother to put food in the lounge at all. We ordered room service and the wait time was incredible 1.5 hours once and 45 minutes the other time (Our 2 year old was on a PBJ binge and without being able to access the family lounge -- room service became the only other place). We had massages in the spa. We waited 30 minutes past our appointment time to be seen (paid over $300) but later that day they gave us a $50 gift card that we could not use on the previous service. So, I recommend waiting until the end of the cruise to book any spa services in case they give any discounts later in the cruise. Finally, we pre-paid for the PixelMax before sailing and I have a $644 charge for pictures that I need to call and dispute. Not the vacation that I imagined. Two things worked well, Camp Ocean and our room stewart was good. Read Less

Horrible cruise and ship!!! Our room on deck 1 had a fishy smell, and our intercom in our room did not work so when the cruise host came on to give the cruisers daily info we could hear any of it. The high tech elevators leave you waiting for 10 to 15 minutes on most occasions. Don’t even think about getting a taco, burrito, or taco bowl unless you have an hour to wait in line. Think you want a pizza well carnival had one employee forming dough, making the pizzas, baking the pizzas and waiting on cruisers, so the wait for pizza is at least 45 minutes. On the lido deck in the buffet area it is like an ice skating rink walking. Peoples feet sliding out from under them. Almost slipped and fell many times. Reported to staff and was told they were aware of it. At breakfast water was dripping from the ceiling in the seating area in the buffet and had to move tables twice and seen many other families moving there seats as well. Was told it was condensation!!! And for the wow factor of a new cruise ship the atrium (lobby) area looked unfinished with white plastic looking stone walls. Not impressed at all and will think twice before cruising with Carnival again!!!! Read Less

Are you ready to share a 20 square foot pool with the rest of the people on the boat? How about pay extra for the shows or not being able to go because it's all sold out within the first hour? Bermuda was pretty nice but there isn't really anything to so on the ship that's fun. The game shows they have going on are impossible to see because again, too many people to see it. For my experience, I'd much rather be at home, working my full time job. Because that's more fun than sitting in the small room, and sitting in this small room is still more fun than colliding with everyone at the pool or just sitting at one of the pool chairs. The food was pretty good but as per usual, it's just the same stuff over and over again, unless you want to pay an arm and a leg for any food that isn't included for free. In bermuda, get ready to pay for literally everything. Want to go to the beach, you have to pay admission to get in. Want to have a chair? It costs 20$ for one beach chair and another 30$ for an umbrella. To sum it up, save some money by ripping it up and throwing it into the air. Read Less

Prior to this cruise, I have sailed with NCL four times. On each of these cruises, I've had fantastic experiences with the staff throughout the ship as they helped create positive memories that I can share with my family for the rest of my lifetime. Unfortunately, that was not the case with the NCL Escape. I booked this vacation as I had high expectations from my prior experiences with NCL: clean public areas, courteous staff, fantastic dining options, and notable entertainment groups. By no means was I expecting a 5 star service, but I was expecting familiarity with the friendly services I have received in the past. On this voyage, I traveled with my two sons. The process of embarkment was chaotic, as usual, but quite simple to manuever within. Once on board the ship, everyone crowded the Garden Cafe as the staterooms weren't finished from the previous cruise. Since I boarded later, there was no where for my two sons and I to sit in the Garden Cafe. We ended up eating on the floor outside with our carry ons. Remember, since this is a larger ship, many places are destined to become crowded throughout the duration of the trip. Although our cabin was not perfect, it was satisfactory. For the three of us, we had enough storage space to store our clothing but lacked space to comfortably walk from one side of the room to the other with the sofa bed out. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious for the size of the cabin overall. By far, the best feature of this stateroom was the balcony. Being at sea for a little under three days, it is critical to take advantage of the on board activities the Escape has to offer. However, since there are over 4,000 guests on board, and limited activities to choose from, it is hard to attend the ones in high demand. If the activities did not require reservations, it was empirical to get in line at least thirty minutes beforehand. If the activities did require a reservation, they were booked within the first couple hours on board the ship. Nevertheless, the activities that I attended were good. There was a female comedian who was superb and a male comedian who was alright. The musicals were lovely and the play re-enacting the Breakfast Club was fun to watch. There were also two public pools, a waterfall cave, six jacuzzis, four waterslides, a ropes course, and mini golf for guests to enjoy. In my opinion, the dining experience received is a critical factor to the overall cruise experience of a guest. With that said, the overall dining experience was fair. I ate at two speciality restaurants as well as all three complimentary restaurants, the Garden Cafe (buffet), and O'Sheehan's (presumably open 24 hours). Of course, shore excursions were offered on the ship but not worth it for Bermuda. I highly recommend booking your shore excursions through Expedia as they are cheaper yet exactly the same. For example, my sons booked the Rising Sun shore excursion which was $100 through NCL but only $75 through Expedia. Through this one excursion alone, I saved $50 by booking through Expedia. If you got this far, you are probably wondering why I left "Terrible" as my overall rating of this cruise experience. First, the ship was too crowded overall. The sun decks were clustered with people and it was near impossible finding a row of chairs next to each other. The amount of guests on board the ship also play a role in the cleanliness of the ship. In the 18 and older sections of the ship, it was usual to find beer cans and cups floating in the pools in addition to the jacuzzis. At night, it is not a surprise to see vomit near these areas either. Speaking of 18 and older sections, these areas of the ship were poorly monitored. Here, anyone can casually walk in or out of these sections so it was common to see children in areas where they weren't designated. So, when you are up at midnight in the club, don't be surprised when a little kid strolls through groups of people grinding on each other. On Carnival, your key card would have to be scanned to gain access into these areas which I highly recommend NCL to do in the future. Second, I was a the Spice H20 bar on the 17th deck ordering drinks with a group of people. Since we were sitting at a bar top, a bar hop approached us and took our orders with our key cards. 40 minutes passed and we had yet to receive our drinks. Another bar hop walks by and we asks him what happened to our drinks and more importantly, our key cards. Luckily, he was able to find our key cards but the bar hop who took them disappeared. Through this bar hop, I order another drink and although he serves me promptly, he hands me the key card of a different guest than disappears as well. When I went down to guest services to cancel my key card and get a new one to gain access into my room, I was questioned as if I was in the wrong. Third, the dining options were not as exemplary as I would have enjoyed. Although advertised as 24 hours, O'Sheehan's closed at a certain time. I ate at two specialty restaurants during my stay on the Escape: Cagney's Steakhouse and Teppanyaki. Teppanyaki is a hibachi styled restaurant which I enjoyed very much however, Cagney's Steakhouse was disappointing. The wait staff were rude and took long to complete our orders. Once our food came out, it was not cooked to par as our steaks were either over cooked or under cooked. Surprisingly, the complimentary restaurants were great, with little to no wait, and I would highly recommend you dine here as opposed to the speciality restaurants. Finally, I was sitting at a bar connected to O'Sheehan's. A fight erupted behind me and as I tried to move out of the way, I was hit in the ankle by a thrown chair. It took security several minutes to disperse the fight. Once the fight was settled, I talked to security as I wanted to report the incident who referred me to guest services. I went down to guest services who told me that they could not help me or do anything to make my experience with NCL better. The next day, I woke up and noticed my ankle was black and blue and decided to go to the infirmary however they wanted to charge me to look at an injury I received on board the ship. Overall, I was not satisfied with how this situation was handled and wish I received more attention and the people who were involved in the fight were penalized for their actions. Four years ago, I would have recommened anyone and everyone to NCL. It was child friendly but also provided an environment for adults to escape. Now, I would not recommend NCL to anyone. For children, I feel that the NCL Escape promoted an unsafe environment through the constant fights that incurred on board as well as the lack of boundaries set in place. Meanwhile, for other travelers, the NCL Escape leaves much to be desired. Read Less

The ship was overcrowded and understaffed. The food was cold all the time. The food in the buffet was mediocre. You couldn't find a seat in the buffet because it took the waiters a while to clean the tables. There were lines everywhere in the ship for food. There were only two choices which opened late and closed early. Guys burger and the taco place opened at 12pm and closed at 6pm. The cabin with the balcony was too small. The bathroom looked rusty even though it was a new ship. God forbid you try to order room service after 10pm. There are too many extra charges and the cruise is not cheap. The boarding was extremely unconformable (there were 6 elevator banks working to board 5,000 people with luggages) It took everyone an hour to leave the ship on the day we docked in Bermuda (The ship was not cleared). An hour wasted waiting to leave the ship. My kids did not want to stay in the kids camp because they said the staff didn't want to do any activities. It took an entire day to clean the pool after someone threw up. There was a huge line everyday for the pizza. The main dining room had an amazing staff but the food was horrible and tasteless. I have done other cruise lines and I wouldn’t do it again or recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy relax in a cruise. Thank God for the good weather. It was sunny and warm. Read Less

I have been on Norwegian Cruise lines in the past. I have to say, I will never go on another cruise again. I'll fly to my destination. It's all about quantity and NOT quality where in the past NCL took pride in everything, the waiters came to the table with the food orders on silver platters, with silver covers and the covers was taken off then the plate was placed in front of you on the table. How do you have 1 pool for 4000 people, that is CRAZY, the ship was too big, the cabin was nice, but I do miss the little chocolate mints that used to be placed on your pillow at night when your bed was turned down. the staff was good, but loud in the morning for the buffet breakfast, Bermuda was gorgeous , but I'll fly instead. the food was terrible, get rid of the Italian restaurant, I don't know what that was, that was NOT Italian, the only thing I liked was the beverage package. and if I had to go on another cruise, it would be a much small ship. There were charges for all entertainment games like bingo etc. They were showing Frozen an Paddington which are 3-4 year old movies. Ship was clean and well maintained. A friend of ours recommended this cruise, it was the worse cruise we ever went on. We went on about twenty other cruises on the celebrity and royal caribbean lines they always gave us very good memories but the norwegian escape left a very bad taste in our mouths, we wouldn't take another cruise on the norwegian , even if they offered us a free cruise, it was terrible.there were only a few things we enjoyed on this cruise, we attended a show it was called after midnight it was great, the cabin was nice and the cabin stewart was excellent. For the most part the employees were ok. On a whole everything else was bad, believe me we never felt down after any cruise we took except for this cruise on this norwegian escape.to add to our misery, my lady gloria wasn't feeling good so i took her to the medical center, she was their about three hours and charged us $2,365.68, that was the last straw. And we forgot to mention that it took over three hours to get off the boat. We're very unhappy about this cruise no good memories to reflect on like we had on the other cruises on the celebrity and royal caribbean cruise lines,.we can't wait for our next cruise on either the celebrity or royal caribbean, so we can erase those terrible memories on the norwegian escape. Our first cruise . So disappointed in the entire experience. We waited four hours at the NYC terminal, three of which was standing outside in the cold. Not sure what happened at the dock as there was no explanation and no apology for this unacceptable inconvenience. The worst part was seeing the hundreds of senior citizens standing for hours, with no attempt from anyone from the cruise ship making accommodations for them. Pitiful! The most amazing part was no one in line seemed at all angry about the situation. They were completely complacent, calm and for the most part jovial. Eager to get on board and start their adventure, even if it meant killing 240 minutes of their precious vacation time. When we finally got on board it was a frenzied race to get to a bar and get a drink. Every bar onboard was over packed with people, we couldn’t get close to a drink of water let alone alcohol. The ship should have served champagne in glasses as we boarded after putting us through that ridiculous ordeal. We waited 4 hours but there were people behind us that surely waited at least five hours. The ship is very crowded 4900 passengers, which means if you want to do something on board like eat, or see a show you have to make reservations immediately! We didn’t have a chance to eat at any decent hour or partake in a number of activities (There weren’t that many we were interested in) as everything booked up quickly. The activities they have on board are basically organized for you to purchase something from the art auction, or the onboard shopping (a joke) or at the spa. There were no intellectually stimulating activities except a program called 30,000 years of art history. It was interesting but it was merely a ploy to get you to buy the sofa art on display in the middle of the thoroughfare. If you are not a smoker do not go on this ship! They say there is no smoking onboard except in a designated area in the casino. Well the casino is in the open three floor atria area where many of the high end dining restaurants are. The smoke just wafts down to the non smoking area and it ruined that entire area of the ship. We had dinner at Le Bistro and was unpleasantly surrounded with cigarette smoke as we were sat at the outside tables. The food is generally ok. We did have two nice meals at the Italian restaurant but Le Bistro was a great disappointment. Breakfasts were the best meals of the day. We ate at all of the Complimentary restaurants at one time or another and the food was not bad given the nature of the high capacity feeding that goes on throughout the day. I commend them on their ability to be consistent and to deliver meals very efficiently. Which leads me to the staff. What wonderful hardworking, friendly people. They really did go out of their way for everyone. We left cash tips everywhere we dined and drank. The best spot on the boat hands down was the District.! Except for that first day it was the least crowded of all of the bars. Loved the atmosphere and the entertainment. Read Less

Friends went on this cruise last year and had a good time so decided to go again this year and I tagged along. We were all disappointed. My first negative was immediately upon entering my cabin. There were no towels or drinking glasses. I opened up a cabinet and there was a pair of men's slippers. At 5:30 I asked for towels. When I got back into the room at 11:30 I still did not have towels or a drinking glass. My room steward would be knocking on my door late in the afternoon when I was in and getting ready to go out. On all other cruises I never had interaction with the steward unless I wanted him there. One night I told her I was going out for dinner at 9:00 and she could come back then and give me clean towels. She said "oh no, too late." My drinking glass was rarely replaced. Once I brought a glass of lemonade down and the cup was still there after she cleaned the next morning. I finally freaked one day and called housekeeping and told them they better get there immediately with a clean glass and take away the skanky dirty glass. The restaurants all seemed to use spice on everything. Steak, chicken .. even potato wedges. Everything had what was like a peppercorn rub. Except for the filet mignon at The Cagney. Delicious. I just wish that my sides were served at the same time and not over five minutes later. The worst dining experience was the Ocean Grill. We had a three "free" dining experience. All lobsters were overcooked, so was my steak. One diner didn't receive her clams, one did not receive her drink order. And the shrimp was NOT deveined! At the end we got our bill, with a $17 uptick!! We had to pay another $17 for rubber lobster and the worst service. I would never get the dining package again. Totally not worth it. The public restrooms were usually dirty, with one stall being out of order. Headliners, where I went to enjoy the Dueling Piano show, had the hardest chairs. I was hoping the room would be like I'm used to on cruise ships. Nice banquettes and soft chairs with tables for drinks. These were set up conference style. So uncomfortable. And how is it possible to NOT have stand up comics and only improv and sketch comedy? I paid $59 for the 300 mg plan which I was assured would last me for the little bit of internet I would be using. They don't tell you that you have to manually click off the internet when you are not using it. I lost all 300 mg during the first night. My only positive was that the bartenders were all attentive and it was easy to get a drink. Perhaps it is because there are so many bars. Maybe they could trade in a bar and put in a comfortable lounge for the dueling piano show or karaoke (NOT family). I was happy I paid the $99 for Vibe. Although the weather wasn't the best, we were able to use it most days and had a great experience. The bar staff and wait staff were amazing. This was my first experience with NCL. I would never cruise with them again and I will never recommend NCL. Read Less

She took my card and studied it so I figured she would send me something. Needless to say ,I got nothing. When I got home I sent a letter to Norwegian headquarters and for all my trouble, all they offered me was $100.00 off my next cruise!!!! Good for 1 year..... big deal. Well no thank you. I will use different cruise line that really cares about their customers. Just want to let people know. I belong to a widows group with 300 members and I will make sure to let my experience be known. As a frequent (7x) NCL cruiser, I have always enjoyed freestyle cruising and the entertainment on NCL ships. You get none of this on the Breakaway. On all other ships when there were minor issues, staff was responsive - this was not my experience on the Breakaway. Lineups, overcrowding, misinformation, dirty, broken etc. I will not likely go on NCL again and would not recommend it based on this experience. Embarkation was 2.5 hours, cabin not clean/ready with a broken cupboard door at 2pm. Nothing gets fixed even with repeated attempts to the maintenance, front desk and 2x to the hotel director Vuk. Entertainment was the worst ever, with the same really bad comedian on 4 nights. The only highlight was Second City but if you don't book the first day you have to wait in line for cancellations. The one adult pool, no quiet spots is just beyond horrible. The food in buffet was repetitive and cool. They refused to open up more seating even when it was overcrowded (they are on there own schedule). Do not book a studio cabin as the entire area really smells, gets poor stewards and the host never shows up (NCL does not live up to the promise). Noodle bar was excellent food and service but if you don't get their right at 5pm you won't get in. Breakaway disembarkation was a nightmare. I lined up at 6:45 am and was 10th in line and the doors were not opened until 9am. No announcements as to delays etc. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. If you like cruising, don't take the Breakaway. Read Less

As a first time cruiser, all I could say is Never again. I will start with the cabin, I heard they were small, but no one said they were that tiny, dark, and dingy. Lights didn't work properly. The sheets had no cotton remaining on them, seriously grey in color. Dirty Carpet! The first steward to address us in our cabin was overly rude. He mentioned to keep the balcony door shut at all times OR the air conditioner would not work properly! I thought that was a little strange, wound up, doing just that, and opened the door, and there was no problem with the air conditioner.. (First red flag)! He complained every time I opened the entry door, that He would get sick from the draft it created! Yelled directly at me and slammed his bunch of cleaning products down. I got to a point I didn't let him in the room the rest of the trip. Second issue... Toilets Never flushed! A good 60 percent of the day, no flushing toilets! Not just in the room, but every toilet took turns.hours at a time. This IS unacceptable! Every time we needed towels we had to beg for them, and bathroom tissue paper! That steward was as rude as they come. To complain about the toilets not flushing, was the same excuse daily! Room service brought in a breakfast tray, and the steward would not remove it when we put it outside the door. #3... Smoking everywhere! That was pretty disgusting, especially people sneaking smoking on the balcony... #4 I never knew how many people were on this ship.. to my understanding including staff it was 5000! Seriously, the ship cannot handle all the needs of paying guests! The pools were not equipped with proper entry, only a steep ladder scaling the wall of the small overcrowded pool! It was a horrible experience, with people holding lounge chairs and no one was in them. The pool area was like sardines in a can! The docking day was a frenzy at the beach, so I skipped that too. Tried the beach the next day, hurricane Harvey put a damper on that too. By then, I was pretty much hot exhausted, from sleepless nights, with loud banging music playing in the distance every night till the wee hours... shoulder was hurting from pressing the button to flush the toilette. I just wanted to go home to the peace. The food was the only part of the trip I enjoyed. Leaving the ship was a total disaster, of three hours packed in a waiting room, with screaming children, and noise! To sum it up, Cruising is for 16 year olds who want to be 20, and 40 year olds that think they are 20, gamblers, and alcoholic's make up the other percent. . The rest of the people are just lost in the crowd. Like I said before. Never again! A pretty bad costly experience. Read Less

We choose this cruise because some dear friends of ours were renewing their vows for their 25th anniversary. This was the worse Carnival experience ever! The shower curtain was too short and water flooded the bathroom floor every time we showered. Consequently, we had to request extra towels to place on the floor to absorb the water. We pre-ordered a case of water and did not receive it until the night of the second sail day after calling to complain 3 times and once again at Guest Services. The cabin steward did not make any animal shaped towels until I approached him and REQUESTED one. (Day 3). I realized a bottle of Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau De Toilette was missing from my cabin the morning of debarkment. Because we were exiting the vessel, I did not contact security, but called Carnival to express my concern. I was told by the representative that "Carnival is not responsible for any lost or missing items as per their contract." I asked the representative if that meant that any Carnival employee could enter a cabin and remove items with no recourse. She replied, " We certainly will investigate the allegations; however, Carnival is not responsible for any missing or lost items as per our contract." I AM SO DISAPPOINTED WITH CARNIVAL SUNSHINE! We will be using another cruise line for our upcoming family reunion. Read Less

We took the Scandinavia and Russia NCL Breakaway cruise from Copenhagen, Denmark on 9th July 2017. We signed up for the BX Balcony Cabin (which said that BX Room may have a possibility of blocked view from our balcony, such as from the pillar or life boats). Please note that we did some snooping and there are no balcony cabin with any sort of blocked views. The life boats were no issue at all). However, in actual fact - having a BX Room means that the room is next to the lift lobby and you will hear the toilet/ sewage flushing throughout the day - 24 hours literally. If you are a light sleeper, do not take the BX room. The free show entertainment is unimpressive. I did not bother to watch any of the entertainment after watching the Opening Show on the first night. Food is plentiful, but sadly, lack quality and tends to be over salted. Staff are unfriendly, especially the guest service officers. I had one of them losing her temper...after I asked her more questions on the baggage tags. Totally unprofessional. This is my first time on NCL and it will be my last. I will not recommend NCL to any of my friends or family members. I will go back to Princess for my next trip Read Less

We had used Norwegian before this cruise was convenient because we could take the train to the port in NYC. We also have been on two other cruises with another line. As far as the ship was concerned the balcony was very small . Only to people could fit on it and that would be close. The food, entertainment , staff and interior was good. The big problem with the ship was the way the staff and crew managed the people on the ship. To describe the other passengers, it was like you were stuck at a crowded Jersey shore beach with Jersey Shore people. Individuals were allowed to take over sections of the boat at the expense of others. Forget about getting a chair by the pool. Families would have someone come early and leave a towel so they could save the whole area for the day. The pool area was very overcrowded. When I was finally able to get in the pool I swam over and leaned wall of the pool while in the pool and someone near me tapped me on the shoulder and said "That spot is saved". So the all the edges of the pool are saved. Even in the Theater you would get there every for a show only to find some saving a whole row , so there family members can come late and still have seats. When I complained about this to the staff they did nothing. So if you like to get into fights with people, this is the cruise for you. So this cruise ship is very very poor in managing people. I had some suggestions, For the theater they should have reserved seating but those that want that have to pay for it. If the seats are first come first serve the usher should be a usher and prevent people for saving blocks of seats. For the pool in certain areas individuals should get a time limit per day to use the area so others get a change to enjoy the cruise, We will never use Norwegian again Read Less

We choose this cruise because we did not have to fly anywhere. The ship was way too crowded. The service in the main dinning rooms was terrible. They did not have our dinning reservations which we made on line and had confirmations for, they just said "it is not our fault". The pool was too small for that size ship! There were extra charges for almost everything on the ship, example a$7.95 service fee for room service, $20 a person to go in the ice bar. We will never take another Norwegian cruise again!!!! P.S. once the cruise was over you could not get picked up at the pier, they said you had to leave the property and go across 12th ave. to get picked up where the cops wouldn't let you get picked up. With that many people leaving the ship it was impossible for car service to find you. Read Less

Was very disappointed from the moment we came on the ship. Room was not as advertised and when we went to front desk to complain they couldn't have cared less. I know the ship was booked but no one even said I'm sorry you're upset; just said there was nothing they could do! Cabin Steward was not very friendly. Never said hello when saw us in the hallway or even asked how our day was. Food in the dining room was very disappointing. Menu was small and choices were strange. One night two of the menu choices were chicken parm and beef terriayki - is it Asian night or Italian? Also food frequently arrived cold and service was very slow. Embarkation was a nightmare - took over an hour! Made us walk the entire length of the casino twice - felt like cattle! Filled out survey several weeks ago and no one has even bothered to follow up. Told them we were celebrating our 25th Anniverary and second day of the cruise received a card that said give to waiter to let them know you are celebrating a special occasion. Felt weird to tell waiter we were celebrating something - they should have taken care of that in advance. Buyer beware! Much better cruise lines out there for the money. We have taken several Royal Carribean Cruises and have never been disappointed! Not to be totally negative food and service in specality restaurants was good - but expect that since paying extra. Entertainment on boat was also good. Read Less

Bermuda was so spectacular, but that was in no part because of this ship. This ship was extremely disappointing. We chose this cruise because we wanted to go to Bermuda for our honeymoon (no Zika) and there aren't many options. We are seasoned cruises, and typically choose Princess, but took a leap of faith and tried NCL. Bad decision for our honeymoon, let me tell you. I mean, we mentioned it was our honeymoon several times, just hoping for a "congratulations" or maybe a candle on our dessert... not acknowledged ONCE on the entire cruise. No sign in our room, no mentions at dinners, nothing. Not that I expected a lot of recognition, but I plan to only get married once and only once, so this was a one time shot at our honeymoon and NCL completely blew it. I also want to add, we are pretty laid back people and eat normal (no restrictions like GF or SF) so my opinions are based on the average level of expected service for any type of entertainment. 20 Things that Suck and 5 that are pretty cool: THE BAD STUFF 1. Had the ultimate beverage package. Couldn't get a bottle of Water... Isn't that the ULTIMATE BEVERAGE? 2. Get hounded to use hand sanitizer everywhere, but still have to touch the doors leading to the outside decks... um, really??? (its a touch activated door, should be motion sensor, right?) 3. Best item on the menu to eat is a hot dog at O'Sheehans... which coincidently is the ONLY place to get edible food on the entire ship. 4. Cagney's: the Lobster Bisque tasted like turkey gravy at Thanksgiving. And my (supposedly) "medium rare" steak was nearly burnt. Severly disappointed. 5. Speaking of ultimate beverage package, just don't do it. It's bottom shelf liquor that just makes you feel sick, not drunk. I was sick basically every day after feeling forced to drink Bahama Mamas (since we had the ubp, I felt obligated) 6. Ocean Blue: Alaskan Crab Legs are literally the only item that we would consider "tasty". Everything was really dull and definitely not worth the price. 7. The wait staff is extremely rude or unpersonable. We went to "higher end" restaurants and were greeted with "what do you want" instead of "hi, I'm Mark, how can i help you?" or something similar. I'd like to be greeted, even if you just want to turn over your tables. No one likes to tip a rude server. 8. The crowds everywhere, you just can't get away from them (except in the spa, which I'll mention further down in the good stuff section). Bathrooms, bars, restaurants, mini-golfing... you name it, it's gonna be crowded. It was built to corral guests, not give them room to breathe. 9. The trivia was the dumbest "entertainment' I've witnessed ever. There are so many people, they divide you into 2 groups and display A or B on the projector. Groups would then choose their answers by standing in front of A or B. So no real winners here. 10. Second City: ABSOLUTE WASTE OF TIME. We attempted to watch 3 skits, all different layouts from sketch impromptu, to scripted, to amateur and walked out less than ten minutes into all 3. The comedians were so vulgar in some of their skits, they just weren't funny and i couldn't stand to hear any more. This was probably the biggest disappointment as we love comedy and are always visiting comedy clubs. 11. Noisy estate rooms: we were in a mini-suite and did get to choose our room of course, but had no idea we were right between two families with little kids. Woken up at 4 or 5 am almost everyday by one screaming child or another (we love kids, we just won't travel with ours until they are at least 7yo). There was also banging in the walls which we couldn't control, and had 2 absolutely sleepless nights because of it when we were in rough waters. 12. Big ship, big motion sickness. Not only was the alcohol making me sick, but I think I had motion sickness as well. I've heard you feel the waves less with the bigger ships. Not true. 13. Poor entertainment all around. Even Karaoke sucked. If I hear Frozen's "Let It Go" anytime in the next year, it'll be too soon (I think everyone sang that song, we even heard it 5 times IN A ROW at one point)... VARIETY IS PRICELESS! 14. Speaking of variety, the menus were exactly the same every morning, noon, and night. Go to breakfast, same as yesterday... Lunch, same as yesterday. It's gross and dull and your guests would appreciate menu variations. 15. We aren't buffet people, but the one time I ate at the buffet, I can say it was better than the dining room. On every other ship the buffet is the gross option and the dining room is the good option. Opposite on Breakaway, if you don't have sanitary reservations from buffets (like I sort of do) skip the dining rooms. 16. Ropes course was closed a lot: eveytime we tried to go to the ropes course, it was closed. Don't even know if it was even open after the first day because we never saw people on it. 17. Lack of anytime eating. There is no 24-hour pizza place, no free late night room service ($7.95 service charge, you have to be kidding me), no burger joint, or sandwhich place. And all I wanted was a grilled cheese or a slice of pizza. Nada, zip, zilch, not happening. 19. Announcements will wake you up at 8 am or earlier everyday. No chance of sleeping in, they are incredibly loud. Maybe earplugs would help? 20. And last but not least, the beach towel situation was frustrating. Each person gets one towel and if you lose it, you get charged. You can exchange your towel for a new clean one, but you still only get one. We just took the white towels from the spa and took those with us places. At least if you left them somewhere, you didn't get charged. THE GOOD STUFF 1. The Mandara Cruise Spa is pretty spectacular and the single best place to get some peace and quiet. I took many naps with headphones in here on the heated chairs. It's $200 per person, only 120 people are allowed to buy passes, and totally made the ship tolerable. If it weren't for the spa, we may have stayed in Bermuda. Steam room, therapy pool, hot tub, hot beds, ocean views, it's definitely worth it! 2. Your hotel and meals are all paid for on Bermuda, via the ship. Bermuda is really pricey and it was nice to not have to pay for additional room and board on the island. It didn't taste good, but we were able to eat enough to not be hungry while exploring the island. You can go on and off the ship at your leisure, so you had a beachside hotel. Three days in Bermuda and I am in love with the island, btw. Amazing place, truly!!! Magical even. 3. The adults only pool, Spice H2O was a nice relaxing spot on the back of this ship sans screaming kiddos. at least during the day. It's adults only from 10-6 everyday. 4. The gym is pretty great. It's right near the spa and almost always empty. Not a lot of people apparently work out on vacation. It was a friendly change from the crowds on the deck. 5. It's a great way to lose weight. You walk long distances everywhere, food is terrible so we hardly ate anything, the gym and spa are the best places to hang out, and got sick daily due to alcohol and motion sickness. Can't say this was a bad thing when I lost 8 pounds in one week! So overall, I'd say this was a pretty poor honeymoon choice. We are fun-loving people, so we made the cruise fun for ourselves since no one with NCL was trying at all. Mostly by picking fun at all the crappy parts... It's really what you make of it. I will never make the mistake of cruising with NCL ever again, and this has strengthened my loyalty to Princess. Next time we want to go to Bermuda, we will fly. Read Less
