My family and i went on the norwegian escape because a family member of ours was getting married on the ship, and a good amount of us (60+) decided to take the week and sail together. My family and i had an absolutely terrible experience. Originally boarding ship; we were told to wait on one line, and we waited for 45 minutes before we were told we were in the wrong line! The original staff member that put us in the wrong line walked away instead of taking the second to apologize to myself and about 10 other people in my family who all waited in the wrong line. While waiting to board ship, staff members kept telling us to keep the aisle clear. I crossed the aisle at one point to reach a staff member and ask where the bathroom was so that i could change my child's diaper. Another staff member immediately approached me to keep the aisle clear - for crossing it for two seconds to ask another staff member a simple question! Staff members immediately very rude. Leading up to our cruise, my husband and i called the norwegian cruise line multiple times asking if we could have a room upgrade. We went on the cruise to attend a wedding, and were locked into a group pricing discount. Members of the wedding that we attended paid the same price as us and had better rooms than we did because they received free upgrades. However, my husband and i needed the upgrade because we have a one year old and needed a room with a bathtub in order to bathe him (and just extra room in general). We were told multiple times to call back closer to departure date. When we did this, we were told it was “too late to receive an upgrade and ask again at check in”. We asked again at check in and were told to ask guest services once we board the ship. When we got into our room, we were given an inside state room. For two adults and a child, this room was entirely too small. It was too small for one person, let alone three. We needed to keep all of our luggage in the closet and take down a murphy bed above our actual bed to keep our luggage out of the way. As told, we called guest services for an upgraded room and were told that once boarded, it was too late to upgrade rooms. Being that we could not upgrade, we asked guest services to bring us a crib for our one year old child. The crib was unable to fit in our cabin. Even with all of our luggage tucked away in closets/the murphy bed - we could barely fit ourselves in the cabin, let alone this crib. We were still not given an upgraded room, while other people we sailed with had luxury rooms for two adults, no children!!! (For the same price) Our first night at the manhattan room, our waiter expressed his annoyance with us switching to the table behind us to sit with another member of our reservation party who was seated completely by himself at a table (while we had a reservation of over 60 people, and he was the only person seated alone). We felt bad that he was sitting alone, so a few of us got up and sat with him. It is understandable that this may have frustrated the waiter, but as a former employee of food service, expressing this to your customer is extremely bad taste. We used the youth center daycare for two nights so that my husband and i could enjoy a night out. The youth center counselors told us that if our child cried for ten minutes, they would page us. They asked what they could do to console the child if he was crying, and my husband told them to pick him up, rub his back, check his diaper, or just simply play with him. I witnessed the counselor write this down on her ipad during the registration process. On the night we put him in the daycare, i had been paged within a half hour of putting him in and was told that he was “upset for a while now” (10 minutes). When i got down there to check on him, they brought him out in his stroller, with his shoes and day outfit still on (they asked me to provide pajamas so that he could be changed into them, which i did). He had not been picked up, changed, or allowed to play with other children to distract his crying. Why was i paged when nothing had been done to try and console my child? As soon as i picked my child up and took him out of his stroller, he had stopped crying. I changed him into his pajamas that i had provided for the youth center staff in my child’s bag. This was not done for me. They then charged me for leaving him there for two sessions (an hour and 50 minutes per session) when he had only been there for 30 minutes. I ended up taking the child from the youth center and watching him myself for the rest of the trip. I do not understand the reasoning for asking parents what the staff can do to console your child if these steps are not going to be taken and they are going to page the parents regardless (while still charging them). Whenever i tried to push my child in his stroller down the cabin hallways to get to our stateroom, housekeeping was constantly taking up the halls with their carts up until 8:00 pm! The halls are already too narrow to get by with these carts in the way, but with a stroller, it was close to impossible. We had to move them each time. On the first night, they were still cleaning rooms until 8pm at night (what were they cleaning if guests hadn't even spent a night there yet?). There was always one steward in particular who kept getting annoyed at me for having to get by, as if expecting me not to use my stateroom for the duration of my trip. I did not get this staff member’s name. Whenever i would try to get by, the steward would pretend he did not notice me struggling, as i clearly saw him see me and then walk in the opposite direction and into a stateroom. My husband would have to move the housekeeping carts himself. If this steward did happen to move his cart, he would express a very obvious annoyance and once told me he “had to do his job”. His “job” includes being courteous and accommodating to cruisers, even those with children that are in strollers. As a cruise ship leaving out of new york city, the staff should have expected most guests wanted to watch new york yankees playoff games and the new york giants. When these games were on, bar staff would refuse to turn off golf and put these games on. One night, a member in our cruise party went to guest services and asked them to put football on. When they finally obliged, 95% of males on the cruise were all gathered together watching this game on every television that it was displayed on. Another night, the baseball playoffs were on with the new york yankees, and guest services refused to turn off golf. They told us they “did not have this channel”, when they played football on the same channel the night before. They then told us “the game wasn’t on” when it most definitely was. A lot of new yorkers on this boat were annoyed that guest services could not do a simple task of changing a tv station to accommodate the majority of their guests sailing out of new york. Outdoor custodial staff members need to do a better job of keeping the outdoor area dry - my one year old slipped on water and hit his head on the concrete floor! While eating lunch in the buffet one day, there were no high chairs in sight and i had already placed my bags and plates on the table. I asked a nearby buffet staff member to bring me a highchair. He said okay, disappeared and never returned. Expecting him to return, i sat my child on my lap and struggled to feed him and myself until my high chair arrived. I eventually had to ask another staff member for a highchair and that person finally brought one to me. My first night dining at o’sheehan’s, i asked the waitress for one thing on the menu and she did not understand english very well. She kept telling me she did not understand what i was ordering. She brought me something entirely different than what i wanted. Our last night dining at the manhattan room - we were with a reservation group of three tables. All tables finished their dessert before we even received our meals. it took an house for us to receive our meals. Read Less

Cabin - Spa Balcony on the 11th Floor Cabin No. 1104. Embarkation & Disembark at 12th Avenue 55th Street in Manhattan, NY. The ugliest ghetto ship i've ever been on. This was a 4-day cruise to Bermuda and we spent it in our cabin and only left to eat. The buffet is full of only 4-5 things and they're greasy yucky things. You have to make a line and stand on it each time. They had a great taco stand and a great pizza stand but i didn't go on a cruise to eat a $5 meal. Dining hall was nice called Sunshine but our first day it took them 30 min's to get a glass of water on our table (with a 19-month old !!!!! no less). We left. Boycotted for a day only to realize that the pizza and slimey food at buffet was going to make us even more sick!!! I threw up for 2 days because of the rocking of the ship!!! lol I have been on so many cruises before and never threw up or even felt anything close to sea-sick (infact!! when first time cruisers ask me if they'll be sea sick ..i tell them I NEVER EVEN FEEL THE SHIP MOVING) Not this Ghetto ship!!!! I felt it all!!! Gross and EWW!! Service: the staff? The crew ppl -- the small guys that i encountered AMAZING!! all Philippians and omg amazing amazing amazing....friendly nice sweet. I heard how the mop girl only made $540/month after working 60 hour shifts. They do a great job and with a smile. Activites? What FREAKING activities? This ship was all PROFIT FOR THE CRUISE LINE ....we, the passengers got gipped!! ZERO SHOWS...ZERO ENTERTAINMENT...there was NOTHING TO DO!! LIKE NO JOKE!!! nothing. Child room? N O P E !!! I could take my 19 months old to the play room from 8am - 10am FOR FREE or!!! from 10pm - 1 am for a free of $6.95/an hour. what about he rest of the freaking day????? b/c i wake up at like 10am!!! WELL i got to stay in my balcony room entertaining her ANNOYED. Pool? hot Tub? Sure but they were packed and i was grossed out to go near them!!! I DIDN'T even want my child to wet her feet in them!!! Entertainment: Comedy club!!! okay SAD!!! not funny! i went to two shows and 1 was by a CP person...he was as funny as he could be...no big jokes but he made fun of the fact that he couldn't make really much jokes .... 2nd was a black guy who gave us a speech (by us i meant to blacks) saying how they have to laugh even if he's not funny b/c us blacks have to stick together... Highlight? I gotta have some fun right? lol NO! i used the spa the first day and was done and bored with it.!! it is smaller than my NYC apartment and i live small!!! UGHH i paid too much for this ghetto vacation!!! How was Bermuda??? It was gorgeous...sadly we didn't have time to do much.. The port docs are at one end of the island and everything to do and see is literally 50 min bus ride away (minimum) to downtown Hamilton. Bermuda itself was gorgeous.. THIS IS A PLACE to go and stay at for a few days.....a cruise there is a waste! no time to do anything. I WOULD NEVER AGAIN USE CARNIVAL....it was my first experience with this GHETTO company (and i'm sure they have nicer ships but can't risk it) Read Less

I chose this cruise due to the commercialization I had seen. It is nothing but a nightmare with small pools that had so many people you couldn’t move in it. In size they must have been maybe 20 x 20 (if that). The buffet was terrible the bacon and the meats were full of fat not drained and climbed down on a large metal tray for you to pick out with prongs. The meatballs they served was soy bean, like rubber balls. Most of the food is eaten barely half and look around all the people are throwing half the food away in the garbage. The Stewart was fair although nothing really significant in his service. The price of this cruise was outrageous, almost $1300 apiece just for a balcony room. I imagine the Cove Haven part of the ship upstairs was much better than the average reservations. ( at least I hope so. ) You had to pay for every little thing, even a bottle of water. You had no choice but to pay the outrageous price for the water and my girlfriend had one drink, a margarita, it cost $15. In sum, for the price I paid I would not recommend this to anyone, maybe half the price I paid I would consider it. Read Less

Very disappointed in the NCL Escape cruise to Bermuda. Smoking is allowed in the casino which located at the center atrium of the ship. Smoke is smelled throughout the ship on ALL levels because of this. Shame on NCL for subjecting us to second hand smoke. Smoking is also allowed at certain outside bars located directly adjacent to the children's water park. Children should not have to smell smoke and be subjected to cancer. The overall service staff was rude and not cordial. A bartender at the H20 bar from India yelled at me for not picking up my mixed drinks on time. The guest services person gave me incorrect information on when the time zone change would occur. The NCL mobile app had incorrect information that we were going to be in Hamilton for three days and not the dockyard. Fire alarm testing at 10 am during the breakfast rush is unacceptable. This should have been tested during the afternoon when most are off the ship on excursions. I was excited to take a tour of the bridge and see behind the scenes areas like the kitchen, laundry and engine room like I did on other cruise lines, however, NCL has the nerve to charge $79 per person for this tour of their ship. This is disgraceful. Not having a pitcher of water or bucket of ice in the room, as well as no chocolate at night or towel bunny is cheap and disgraceful. Charging $7 a bottle for water when I have the all you can drink package up to $15 per drink is also disgraceful. Nickel and diming me for port charges for drinks while at NY should be picked up by NCL. Coffee should be served at the tables at the buffet so I don't have to navigate back to my table with piping hot coffee through hundreds of people walking in all different directions. The food and pastries at the buffet and most of the specialty restaurants was subpar with most pasties tasting like they were mass produced and from frozen cartons. The waiters did not show us the proper attention like other cruise lines where you had dedicated waiters. Maybe because their tip is already included! Many of the waiters or waitresses did not understand English and got our drink orders wrong. There were also few food carvings or any other special food nights. The seafood extravaganza was a joke with only peel your own shrimp. No crab legs or anything. The specialty seafood restaurant waitress said not to order the lobster I was craving because its frozen and many people are said to be returning it due to poor taste. The sushi appetizer at the Cagney Steakhouse caused intestinal distress for a day and half. Many of the entertainment shows were sold out immediately as we boarded the ship. The comedy club size is a joke holding about 75 people with a ship of over 4,000 passengers. This show should have been held in the main theater so more people can watch and not be subjected to standing in the rear against a wall. The bar in the comedy club was also closed during a show preventing many people from ordering drinks. Theater showings should be after 10 pm so it doesn't interfere or conflict with my open seating for dinner which NCL prides themselves on. NCL cruise line was very disappointing. I will be going back to Royal Caribbean cruises where they treat their customers with respect and the food is always good. Read Less

Worse cruise I have ever been on. Choose Insignia for the 8 day trip to Bermuda to celebrate my husband's retirement, During embarkation the ship does not except *Credit Debit*cards as form of payment for any on board charges. So we had to cancel most of our shore excursions to have credit applied to our room to pay for crew tips. The casino was very small and never had enough staff to operate the roulette table. I was expecting amazing food because they promoted it so strongly. Most food was average, but a lot was so terrible and uneatable, I sent it back and went up to the buffet. The food was the worse part of the trip, but a very close second was activities on the boat. Worse cruise director that I have and anytime. Never saw him at all. No activities at all. Such an incredible boring time!! No ice carving, no fruit carving, nothing to do at all. All shows were scheduled very late, mostly 10 or 11 pm?? Can't really think of anything good about the trip. Don't waste your money for the promise of luxury and best food on the sea--because it is all a disappointment!! Read Less

We love Bermuda. Cruising is a nice way to get there and we didn’t need to fly. This ship was insanely overcrowded. 5000 people and 1 tiny pool. 2 days at sea and it was a fiasco on the pool deck. No chairs, no room in the pool. Hot tubs loaded with kids. Every area or event labeled as “adult only” had 100’s of kids. No staff did any corrections. We joined the thermal spa for $450 and we were told that area was monitored for holding onto the heat beds. No such luck. People held them for hours and went missing. No staff removed their towels. Day 1 by 2pm all specialty restaurants and entertainment was booked. Standby for all entertainment. Bars were swamped. Bartenders over extended. Restaurant staff looked beaten. Buffet worst ever. Horrible food. Dining rooms sloooowwww. If you want a pleasant experience all Norwegian does is up-sell. You need to pay for better dining, pay for a pool. It’s a true price gouging from start to finish. Even when you shell out more money, still a bad experience. Glad this wasn’t my first cruise. I’d never do it again. Read Less

Beautiful ship, but WAY overcrowded with rude, loud people and hundreds of uncontrolled children. We expected a quiet aft cabin and got nightclub music from 5 floors up until 1:30 every morning ...and neighbors with dozens of kids running the hallways at all hours. We had a couple of crew who were friendly, but overall, the staff was not very happy at all. The bartenders seemed to be annoyed at your presence. Of course, if I had to deal with this crowd every week, I’d probably hate my life too. The party atmosphere is not policed and seemed to be encouraged by NCL. The passengers, overall, were the trashiest group of people I have seen in over a dozen cruises. Ketchup smeared down our hallway walls.... a fight in the casino.... it seemed as if anything went on this cruise. The first person we complained to basically blamed us for booking on NCL. Eventually, the guest relations manager made a respectable effort to remedy our disappointments and concerns. Internet packages are time limited and will time out if you forget to sign out..... unlike other lines where they are unlimited. The food was the best part. I definitely recommend trying the specialty restaurants, because you can’t move in the Garden cafe during peak meal times. Even the nicer specialty restaurants run amok with horrible parents and brat kids. If you want a nice, quiet, relaxing trip, this ship is probably not for you. If you want a party, go for it! The ship is lovely with plenty of fantastic venues. Read Less

My husband and I booked a cruise for our honeymoon. I wanted to go to Bermuda and I was thrilled to find out we would stay for 3 days. The ship was huge and I think too big and over crowded. We found this out trying to reserve a seat for shows and for the specialty restaurants; all booked for the week and we were on the ship the first night . The pool was always packed and deck chairs never available. The adult pool was tiny for the amount of people and the average size of the people; who were enormous. The hot tubs filled with people who never left. The lines for the water slides and the Rope course am hour minimum. The kid pool was closed down one day because someone defected in it. Too many people and too much garbage and dirty glasses and unbelievable poor manners of these people . Dirty feet on tables and furniture, waking around wet with no pants and shirtless men. This is the “people of Walmart” cruise. Trashy. People passing in public. Disgusting. The 3 restaurants; the Manhattan, the Taste and the Savor were included and the food was garbage . Rubbery chicken, over cooked meat, mashed potatoes that taste like cardboard and everything salty . By day 2 everyone was bloated and packed on like sardines . Every minute the crew tries to upsell you if you do a facial or massage; they try to get you to get the more expensive or to do acupuncture or Botox or an activity is extra for example Deal or no desk $25 for a card, painting is $35 to participate. We booked a massage and the therapist tried to up sell us to do a more expensive massage then told us to buy $179 Epsom salt and a $67 brush . Not relaxing at all because they don’t shut up either to try to get you to give up more money or to insult you . During my facial I was told i should get Botox. I really do mod want some ocean doctor standing botulism into my face ! Bermuda was good but do not buy any excursions on board because it’s $70 more than waking to the island tour center , take the bus for $2.75 not a taxi for $43 or a shared bus for $7.00. The ferry is ok but infested with roaches. Everyone off the ship is trying to separate you from you money as well so be careful . This vacation was absolutely horrible. The filipino crew will give you nightmares with the way the say “ goooood moooorniiing” and the stupid “washy washy”. Never cruising again . Norwegian ruined cruises forever . Read Less

I spoke with the activities director about my concerns, he was very apologetic. He listened and I believe he spoke to the person in charge of that particular event and we since the change in the activity. The food was not the best, the buffets food was always warm or just cold everyday!! The specialty dining was excellent at every restaurant we ate at!!. All in all the trip was just very disappointing to have your children same their bored, it was very disheartening to hear and see. I would not recommend the escape for a FAMILY VACATION! I've been to so many cruises before embarking in this one. We decided to take this one because of the destination and because our family lives in NY and they wanted to go on this ship... Worst cruise EVER! The ship is giant, but lacks of free activities, no nightclubs no nothing!!! Shoes get overcrowded because of the lack of activities, then you have to make those nig lines to attend any activity you pick, swimming pools are SO OVERCROWDED that people who use them look like SEA LIONS IN SF piers lol. We never got to use the swimming pool due to the overcrowding. Food is horrible, the only thing I wanted to eat was chicken wings since the rest of the food was always the same and average, nothing that you would have said "wow, delicious food" We ate at 2 of the specialty restaurants which I was ecpecting something better... In conclusion, I think we overpaid for this cruise, stateroom service was just okay... showers were not as clean as we expect and bathroom was smelly. Rooms are way too small!!!! At the end, we got trapped at the casinos due to the lack of free activities (which have NEVER happened to me while cruising) they make you buy bingo cards, deal or no deal cards, etc etc. If you are.a gambler this is the right boat for you hahaha. Shopping area is way too small, three or four stores and done. The boat is too dark in colors, nothing fancy like other boats, the only bling bling it has is the shiny decoration by the stairs.... Come on!!! We need BLING BLING!!! We meed good service and something more organized. We pay for it! And to end the story: disembarking was such a mess. Lots of people carrying their luggage from 15th and 14th floor down the stairs due to the lack of elevators. SUCH WASTE OF MONEY! GOING BACK TO MY FAV CRUISE LINE! Read Less

The boat was overcrowded and not enough staff to attend to everyone. Since gratuities were suppose to be paid all upfront they did not have to work hard to get people there food or drinks, I waited 20-30 min for drinks and at dinner took 2hrs. at least. But then once you are on the boat they hit you with a 15$per person per day charge for someone to make up your room. If you want decent food you have to go to the specialty restaurant and pay for it. The adult pool was so small and way overcrowded. They had another adult pool but it had limited spots and fee was 210 per person for the week. The Spa was a nice facility. So one would think that after you pay for an overpriced massage you can use the rest of the amenities there but No that's an extra fee too. So be wary when you think you have an all inclusive they are so many hidden fees. Also the shows sucked, Royal Caribbean is such a better cruise line. Read Less

My wife and I decided to take our three kids on a cruise. This was my first cruise and my wife had been on a couple many years ago. Our kids are 7, 10, and 11. I'll work from cruise start to finish so I don't miss anything. We loaded into the ship at NYC port. The load in wasn't bad at all until we reached the buffet on the Lido deck. That is when we realized that we weren't alone on this cruise LOL. There were people everywhere!!! The buffet line was LONG and once you got some food, there were absolutely no seats available unless you stood by a table waiting for a family to get up. Once we finally found a seat after walking around for 5 minutes with 3 young boys, we started to eat and lets just say the food was less than desirable. Thursday night was our first night and I think we made the most of a disgustingly overcrowded ship. Friday morning rolls around and we are greeted with some annoying voice over the PA system waking us up with things to do. Once we we got out of our room, we went to the Lido deck for some lounge and pool action... Sadly, there were absolutely no lounge chairs for us to sit. The boys ran to the teeny, tiny disgusting pool and my wife and I stood around in disbelieve. There are too many people on this cruise ship. When walked to the pool in the rear of the boat, we found that the layout of the pool caused massive bottlenecks. Shirtless people with tons of lotion bumping into me because there is little room to move from the front to back of boat on the Lido deck is not what I envisioned when booking this cruise. When I went to speak with customer care desk, I waited in yet another line only to hear that maybe cruises aren't right for me ..... lol... The woman actually said that its possible that the cruise ship is great and I am just not the "cruise type" LMAO. Saturday was nice in Bermuda. My family and I had a nice day snorkeling and hanging on beach. When we got back on the boat we decided to go to the ropes course and play some basketball with the boys. Sadly, the basketball court was packed with 20 people. The ropes course was great for the kids but the two staff were terrible. The man was talking with some guy right next to my 7 year old son while he waited in line to get a harness. The woman behind was talking to another participant. I told my son to start getting his harness on since nobody was there to help at which time the woman started yelling at my son and I. Do your job and you wouldn't have this issue. When my son was done, he cam down the stairs with 7-8 other people and they got yelled at for coming down the "wrong stairs". She said she had instructed everyone prior to the ropes course and my son didn't listen. Well, seems like everyone didn't listen or you didn't explain properly. Sunday was filled with more of the same nonsense. Lines, bottlenecks, and swimming pools that saw more people than water. The pools were absolutely disgusting. If your kid can't swim, rather than stick them in the pool with a massive life jacket, keep him out of the pool. Must have been 30 kids with giant yellow vests on. lol Monday was a day for exiting the cruise. The buffet was opened and then closed and the dining room closed early as well. We sat with our bags in a shuttered bar on the 5th floor and waited about 2 hours to leave the ship. I could be wrong but it seems like they could have made our last couple hours on the cruise a bit more enjoyable. I am sorry to say but this cruise was not good. Not sure we will ever try another cruise again. Read Less

The quality of the crew, their attentiveness and professionalism was far lacking. It was apparent they did not care to be on the ship. From boarding to disboarding the overall attitude toward passengers made me wish I was not there. The quality of the food was horrendous, soups had no whole ingredients and were clearly powdered. I myself was sick the entire trip! The setup on ship was a detriment to anyone not there with a whole family as they corralled guests into areas such as Skyline for evening parties (an area much too small for all guests) and then closed the only place to get a drink when passengers engaged in fighting due to the cramped conditions. The adult only pools/ hot tubs were nearly never enforced! I never got to enjoy the pool/ hot tub areas due to an excess of children present at all times splashing and screaming. When I put forth the money to get a spa experience in hopes of some kind of relaxation I was shorted the whole service (tip to toe) including a collagen eye treatment I never received even after asking about completing the service. It was nearly impossible to find a quiet space or other singles on the ship. I spent more money on this cruise than my last and am utterly shocked by my experience with Norwegian as a whole. No kind of vacation I would choose for myself again. Read Less

My family and I went on the Norwegian Escape on July 7th to Bermuda. Let me start with the pro's getting on and off the ship was excellent. It was fast and smooth. The Specialty Restaurants were excellent. We had dinner at Cagney's, Teppanyaki and La Cucina and the food and service was excellent. Now for the con's -- most rude and nasty staff. They never had a smile on their faces and seemed bothered all the time. The amount of sighs we received was crazy. The food in the buffet is terrible and disgusting. The same everyday. The Manhattan Room (main dining room) the food was cold and horrible. Now for the pool, there was no activities very boring. The cruise director was never seen and he was rude. The Choir of the Man was an excellent show. That was only show that we enjoyed. Never again. No NCL. Read Less

We chose this after cruising with NCL on the Epic. What a terrible choice though. Officers told us the Escape and much of the NCL fleet was built in Germany, Epic was built in France. I will not cruise on any ship built in Germany again if that's the case. The main pool was 6ft8" deep and over 18's only allowed. No use for our 11 year old then. So they called another pool the main pool, it was also salt water, it was 5ft at the shallow end and 5ft8" at the deep end. They were handing out life jackets to children! There were no sunbeds near the pool but kids under 12 needed adult supervision so I spent time standing like a lemon. My son hated the pool and how can kids play when they cant touch the bottom of the pool. We were told the ship had 6 sections and the pools had to be that depth to balance the weight. Never mind comfort. So if you like salt water pools, don't have kids and don't mind being out of your depth its great. They did not tell everyone to use cleanser before going into restaurants, again an officer told us we were not in a high risk area! My wife was ill after eating fish on the ship in one of the speciality restaurants. This meal was on the 1st night, we had eaten the same on the trip over to the ship from the UK to New York and my wife only ate on the ship after that. Bringing up a whole prawn was a giveaway as to the cause. I will say other food was decent. But here is the shocker, there was blood on my sons bedding and plasters in the room. It was a disgrace. I do have photo proof. So did they not wash the bedding from the last guest or give us dirty bedding and not notice, but BLOOD! Activities, thought the shows were really adult entertainment, walked out of one but Choir of Man was exceptional to be fair. These ships don't cater for an 11 year old. Kids club is great as he used it when younger but when 11 he is too old for face painting and the like. However not old enough for teen activities, this isn't a cruise only problem to be fair had this at hotels also. service was good, in fact after we complained we met a number of senior officers and they kept saying they wanted to buy us wine or a meal with no obligation, by then I had made it clear I would complain when off the ship and the compensation of two hundred dollars offered was of no use to me as I wanted a full refund for the fact that the pools were not as advertised, the room layout was not made clear, BLOOD on bedding. I did this 2nd day to make it clear how unhappy I was. Then it became the topic of conversation for the holiday so hardly relaxing. What I can say is it wasn't the officers fault, they really did try, like giving my son a token for a free ice cream made on ship, but the ice cream parlour remained closed for the next 4 days! The slides of the pool were very good, couldn't get me son to do the ropes course. Only got my son on the slides one day, he just didn't want to be near the pool so I ended up playing a lot of pool at O'Sheehans, happy holiday. Lastly I have decided to turn down the eleven hundred dollars now offered to me as the cruise cost over 5 times that. This had to be spent on board within 24 months and no other discounts could apply so it was buy a full price cruise to get some credit on ship that you don't want to go on. No thank you, on principal. Read Less

For a new boat, the Escape had many flaws and was just average. It was ENORMOUS, but not in a good way, in my opinion. Although I have heard good things about Norwegian, my family and I did not love the Escape. First of all, the main adult pool was WAY TOO SMALL for such a big ship. Not sure why they designed such a big boat with such a small pool. And the worst part of it was, it was either 8 feet deep where you had to tread water, or you had to sit on the side, but because the pool was so small, there was never anywhere to sit. Second, because there are 4000 people on this ship, the decks were lined up with endless rows of lounge chairs so tight that it was extremely hard to pass through and we felt like sardines while we layed out. There were no tables whatsoever to put food or drinks down either. Would’ve been nice to see some comfortable lounge seating with tables on the upper deck by the glass. Although lounge seating is available on the eighth floor deck but it is very cool and shaded and is in a designated “quiet area”. The restaurants had good food, but not great like you would expect on a cruise. It was just OK. Water slides and zip lines always had long lines and my kids went on only once. (Personally, I thought they were an eyesore on the boat.) Service overall was friendly. Their show “After Midnight” was the only entertainment I really enjoyed. However, the ship did have a lot of very nice tucked away bars and the drinks were delicious, using top shelf liquor. Overall ship was very clean. Embarkation and disembarkation was extremely smooth considering the amount of people. Read Less

The restaurants had some of the worst food I have ever had and the service was terribly slow. It seemed like they bought the cheapest buffet food online and then tried to feed it to us! Half the buffet was closed almost all of the time and half of the golf course was closed off when we got there! The remote in our room only worked about .3% of the time. I finally was able to rent a movie on the tv and then the TV glitched and deleted it! It was $10.00 for the movie! The woman at the Atrium bar was very rude and made consistently rude comments to us so we complained to customer service and they were unable to assist us. Everything from the pool tables to the regular tables looked run down and old. We turned on the light to have our room made up and towels exchanged and the cleaning woman came in turned off the light and closed the door! She did not clean the room, exchange the towels or even come back! The room service was a joke and took forever to get there. They forgot a part of the same order 3 times and brought it town 2 hours later. We had to keep calling to follow up. The entertainment was lacking and the movies were showed in the Atrium which is located in the center of the ship so you could not hear anything! We were just happy to get off the forsaken nightmare that was that ship. I have cruised with Princess, Royal Carribean and Celebrity and have never had a bad experience on their ships. This was my first cruise experience. My coworkers tell me to try again, but I just can't. It was an extremely rocky ride...so I struggled. It did smell like sewage the whole time. The other guests on the cruise were rude to the workers and were beyond overwhelming. There was a fight in the eating area...which was absolutely absurd. The families on the cruise let their children run around and food was everywhere. A woman literally barged into the drink line and put her personal water container on the lip of the water to refill it for ten minutes. It was like eating at Golden Corral the whole time. I became extremely sick and spent the night in bed and going to the bathroom. I did take medicine for sea sickness...but it might have been a combination of the food, sugary alcohol drinks, rocking of the ship and the sewage smell. Leaving the ship was a nightmare. We were stuck with a 1000 other people in stairways and people started fighting. Thank God there was not a major catastrophe!! The police did board the ship in New York and take the people that were fighting. The staff were exceptional and kind. I felt so bad that they had to put up with the other guests. I would NEVER work on a cruise line. God bless them all!!! The entertainment was phenomenal, and it definitely helped me get through the weekend. There were multiple family reunions on the ship....so if I ever thought of going on one again....it would not be one with large family reunions. It was a family reunion ship where I was related to nobody and did not want to be there!!! Read Less

I've just returned from our Carnival Sunrise Cruise. I love cruising and I've cruised many times but I was so disturbed and overwhelmed by this cruise. First off the food and crew were good. But that was about it. I was traveling with my daughter, her husband and 3 children for their first very much anticipated family cruise. First day weather was bad and all activities were closed (pools, slides, ropes, everything! My 6 year old grandson got sick and medical on board was not always open and Did Not have children's Tylenol...really? There were 2 small pools and not enough deck chairs....the six of us had to share 1 deck chair. This ship holds 3300 passengers but ship's amenities cannot accommodate them! Drinks packages, which were extra $ couldn't be used until the next day when we were in international waters. We were supposed to have the 2nd seating for dinner but upon arrival found that we had to have a reservation. Bar service was very slow. Food lines were slow, especially the pizza line...and it was hard to find a table to sit. I was looking forward to lobster and steak...but sadly this would have been more money, it wasn't included. There was a big fight that broke out with 20-30 people throwing deck chairs...there was another altercation among 3-4 men, luckily it didn't end in fist fighting. On disembarkation, the police boarded.....not what you expect! This ship is touted as the Fun Ships, but it was too darn crowded and Nothing about it was fun! Needless to say, my family will never cruise again.....I may, but definitely not on Carnival! Read Less

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of my Norwegian cruises except for my recent one week June cruise (June 2019) roundtrip from New York City to Bermuda. The cruise was aboard the Norwegian Escape. I was shocked by how poorly designed the ship was for over 4000 people and how unfriendly some of the staff was. I have been on large ships (4000+) of two other cruise lines -- Princess and MSC. These ships were comfortable and could easily accommodate all of the passenger. HOWEVER, THE NORWEGIAN ESCAPE WAS FILLED WITH CRAMPED AND UNCOMFORTABLE SPACES AND DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH STAFF TO PROPERLY HANDLE ALL OF THE PASSENGER. The Design of the Escape First of about the cabin. I have never had such a small balcony cabin on any ship that I have ever been on. The cabin was long and narrow -- Not really enough space to easily move around the cabin. There was insufficient storage for clothes so we had to keep some of our things in our suitcases. The bathroom was a comfortable size, but I would have accepted a smaller bathroom to have increased living area. The balcony was the smallest I ever stepped foot on. The lounges and bar areas were extremely small and some were oddly shaped so that patrons could not view the stage entertainment from where they were seated. The pool area was small and the pools were small as well. The whole area was cramped and because of upper decks, we felt like we were surrounded by skyscrapers which blocked most of the sun. The gym area not only was not tiny with insufficient equipment for 4000 guests,, but also did not have showers, saunas, and only had single patron washrooms. I could go on, but I think I have given you a good idea of why we will never go on the Escape or other Breakaway class ships of Norwegian Cruise Lines. The Staff The Guest Services Staff, the Casino Staff, and the Future Cruise Consultants made excuses about problems rather than being helpful. Many times they were very defensive about what had happened. Just one example. The Casino occasionally gave Canadian and Bermudian money in change when casing a ticket for a guest. They have given me 80 cents -- 60 cents Canadian and 10 cents US. When I returned to the Casino cashier, she denied that they had given me the change. Guest Services was no help either. So I returned to the Casino staff and argued my case. Eventually they gave me 70 cents for the Canadian and kept the Bermudian dime. Housekeeping was not responsive to us at all. When we requested that our towels be replaced, they said they would. We contacted them a second time. However, we had to go to Guest Services in person to request towels. We tried to call Guest Services and they never answered the phone for us. Our Cabin steward was lackadaisical. This cruise was the first time that we did not give our cabin steward an extra tip. However, the serving staff in the restaurants and in the buffet were absolutely excellent. The food was very good. Bermuda was great as well. The only positive things about the cruise. Overall, the cruise ship and staff were a disappointment and I will avoid Norwegian's larger ships. Read Less

Though it was a good buy to beautiful Bermuda - but was mistaken -the actual cost was nearly three times the ad price.. .Low quality, not fun and they actually yelled at us customers! Buyer beware - use a travel agent. At departure off the ship at 7:45 am, they had us jammed in the elevator area with our luggage and squished further as more people came out the elevators for more than 20 minutes! They yelled at us as we tried to get out of one another's way in the congestion! Very stress full, uncomfortable and unnecessary for our last impression. My other three cruise you just walk off the ship. The water slides were frequently down for repair and when the were running the water flow was so low you hardly slid at all more like crawling down the slide. The Atrium area was often very congested because of poor design and the lack of space on the ship. The entertainment was often poor . Things were canceled often. Some were just sales tricks to get your money. Choir of Man and After Midnight were very good shows ! The food was fair to poor. Twice I got fishy salmon. Food was often over cooked and dry. They give out very small piece of watermelon infrequently. The deserts are mostly just puddings. Read Less

Wanting to sail from Manhattan, we decided to take the Escape to Bermuda. The experience was a paradigmatic example of how NCL values quantity and income over quality and genuine concern for its passengers. If you love huge crowds, a noise level in the ear splitting decibel ranges, mediocre service, restaurants which resemble an airport food court during weather delays, and complete disregard for customer care, this cruise is for you. I had to argue with bartender about the beverage package, then wait in line for an hour to speak to guest services to have someone correct the bartender's misunderstanding of the program. The spa overcharged me for a massage. When I brought this to their attention, I was told they could not correct the bill. I had to spend hours in many lines trying to correct this. Then they cancelled my onboard account because my credit card had been refused. But it had not - NCL had placed someone else's credit card onto my account. It took days for them to figure this out, while I was denied service at all the bars Spa managers outright lied to me regarding the overcharges. The cabin steward threw out my personal property. Food preparation was disappointing and service uneven. The onboard app for communication never worked. I have sailed on two dozen cruises and this was, without a doubt, the worst I have ever experienced. I contacted Guest Relations after the cruise. They took three months to reply, and refused to take responsibility for their mistakes. I was offered $250 ship board credit on a future cruise. Considering the aggravation, stress, and hours I lost waiting in lines to correct their mistakes, this was nothing short of insulting. and only serves to highlight NCL's complete lack of concern for customer service. Let's just start off by saying that the customer service was awful. No one offered to assist in any way for anything, snapped my sail pass card out of my hand several times, never greeted you in passing, and the lines to even get a drink at any of the bars was too long to even bother - no waiters going around either. The food.. awful. Cafeteria food unless you go to the Specialty Dining - which is an extra cost. We did not have the drink package but each time we purchased a drink it was wrong on our account - as in, if it was a 'drink of the day' it should have been $8.95 and it would show up on the account as $14.71. I spent a lot of time at the guest service desk each day to rectify my account - great way to relax. Activities... if you don't play BINGO or Gamble, then just don't even bother. I never thought a cruise could be so disappointing - I felt nickeled and dimed the entire time. Just DON'T.. Norwegian is terrible. Read Less

I've been on over 13 cruises with Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Celebrity and Princess so far. This is the first time we sailed with Norwegian, but I am sorry to say that this cruise experience was the worst one ever. What a waste of our 10th wedding anniversary trip! Embarkation and disembarkation - the previous ship came back 3 hours late and it delayed the checked in process on us. With no announcement and explanation, the check-in counters were closed suddenly. We were supposed to check in at 11:30am, but we ended up sitting on the floor like refugees with no foods, no water till almost 3:00pm. Some staffs in the cruise terminal were kind of rude to us. For disembarkation, it's ridiculous that we've been asked to have color tags on our luggage, but there is no tag available at customer service desk when we went there. Ship - The ship design is good, but the only theater is way too small. We have pre-booked shows, but we couldn't get in and find seats. The celling of restaurants and rooms are too low, it makes people feel so clouded. There are only two swimming pools on this ship. The kids pool is 1.5-1.7M deep, which is too ridiculous and danger for kids to enjoy the pool. Most of times the water slides and pools are closed for maintenance or some unknown reasons. Cabin - rooms is kind of small compare with Royal Caribbean same type of room. The two pull-down beds are kind of inconvenience for us to get on/off the bed. My husband even hatted his head few time on the bed frames. Also, too much stuffs in the mini fridge and we can't put milk or other stuffs for my son. The shelves inside the closet are not really accessible to put our clothes. TV is too small and so limited channel selections. Same show repeated few times a day. When the closet door is open, half of the TV is covered. Dining - foods quality in buffet and dining restaurants are terrible. most of meats are too hard and dry. There are really less variety everyday. Even pizza are dry. We are normally exciting to have dinner in the dining room, but this time we are so disappointed and even skipped half of the dinners during our trip. The median rare steak tasted almost like beef jerk. Hardly any meals are good in the dining restaurants. The only good one that we had good dinner was in O'Sheehan, with the service from Emmanuel Malinga. He is really good to explain the menu and make sure we enjoyed the foods there. Also, 30% of the cups in the Garden Café are dirty. Some still with foods, lip inks and coffee marks in the cups. Entertainment and activities - Out of 4 water slides, 3 of them are closed for maintenance during our trip. There were no water in kids splash zoon. We were trying to exchange clean towels, and there were no clean towels available for the whole afternoon. Shows on the ship are not attracted at all, so boring and feels like only the host and performers enjoyed themselves well. Halloween trick or treat activity for kids was so unorganized with no clear direction, nor fun at all. Rowen from dining restaurants is the only good entertainer and made us smile all the time when we saw him. Service - lots of waiters and waitresses in Garden Café are not working hard as other cruise lines. They don't clean tables faster enough to let the next group of people to eat. We saw dirty dishes on the tables all over. Part of the celling cables behind our table fell down one night when we were having snacks in Garden Café. Someone finally came to check 10 minutes later. On the way sailing back to New York, the ship was shaky for over 24 hours that made my parents, husband, my son and myself all sick and vomiting in the room till the ship finally arrived in New York. The ship left Bermuda 2 hours late and it was trying to speeding up to make it back to New York. I would say the sailing time management is really bad. Because of the sickness, we wasted two days in the room doing nothing during our trip. Overall, it was a terrible cruise experience for all of us. We even decided to cancel the another trip we've booked with Norwegian next year. I don't think any of our family members, nor myself will choose to sail with Norwegian in the future. Read Less
