It was first time cruising with my granddaughter and husband, it was my gift for her 12th birthday, and of course spring break and Easter holidays. So we took a cruise to Bahamas on Norwegian Getaway. My granddaughter was very excited, happy, got a wonderful time especially she was happy with Garden Cafe where she could pick up any food and ice cream any time she was craving for it. She liked activities in Splash Academy and made friends of her age. so everybody had a good time for her/his own. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. Cabin was comfortable, clean thanks to our steward's efforts. Every day we received brochure with detailed explanations about dining, entertainment, excursions, auctions, etc, so we could plan our activities.Excellent food, amazing service in all restaurants, bars. All crew members were very respectful, friendly, patient. Entertainment and activities were beyond expectation. We will plan next cruise (didn't decide about destination yet) on Norwegian ship for sure. Read Less

My Mother and I booked this cruise just two weeks prior to sailing and the timing was perfect. My Mother will turn 90 in July and has limited mobility, I purchased a light weight transport wheelchair and that made the cruise so much easier for my Mother to enjoy the cruise. We booked a "Sail a Way" Mini Suite, which meant that we did not choose the cabin location, however received a very good rate. NCL's "free at sea" offer does not apply to the "Sail a Way" rate. We are Platinum Latitude level and that level comes with two nights in one of the Specialty Dining Venues and the unlimited Drink Package actually comes with a charge of $138.00 for the gratuities, so the "Sail a Way" rate was a better deal for us. Embarkation was a breeze and we will able to get on board and into the cabin by 1:00 to drop off the carry on bag, then off to lunch in the Savor dining room for a relaxing delicious lunch away from the crowds, Cabin: Our Mini Suite was perfect, the cabin is narrow, and the Wheelchair folds easily and didn't take up too much space. The beds were very comfortable and the sitting area spacious enough for us. The closet is large with plenty of hangers and storage shelves. It is nice to have a balcony, although we prefer to be in the public areas of the ship and spent very little time out on it. The Bathroom is very spacious, with a tub and a large vanity, and plenty of storage. Our Cabin Steward was excellent, my Mother and I are very neat and I think we helped make his job easy. We ate in two of the Specialty Restaurants ; Moderno and Le Bistro. I enjoyed Moderno, my Mother not so much so, I think she was overwhelmed by the amount of offerings. We didn't make a reservation in advance at Le Bistro, however, we went there at 5:45 on the second to last day of the cruise and the Hostess was able to seat us, which was good as we had a voucher for complimentary dining and didn't want to lose out. I would recommend making reservations early as they tend to fill up fast. We tried all three of the Complimentary Main Dining Venues and found them equally enjoyable and had no problem with the service. Every Evening we would enjoy a Martini before dinner, choosing the Atrium as there was always interesting action to observe. The Bartender was excellent and after the second night, remembered our drink preference. On previous cruises, NCL provided a bowl of bar snacks with our Drinks, the first night they didn't and when I asked I got a bit of a run around. The First day at Sea, there was a "Q & A" with the Ships Senior Staff, I asked about the Bar Snacks and received a "non-answer" why they were not provided. However, as we left the "Q & A", the Beverage Manager followed us and asked for our Cabin Number. Later that day a large zip lock baggie of bar snacks appeared in our Cabin, so we were able to enjoy the snacks with our Marini's for the rest of the cruise. I suspect, the elimination of the bar snacks has to do with the potential spread of germs, although it would have been nice if the ships staff confirmed. We went to two of the shows, the comedy act, which was very good and the Million Dollar Quartet , which was also very entertaining. We didn't get off the Ship in either Port Canaveral of the Private Island. We had been to the Kennedy Space Center on a previous cruise and enjoy the quiet of the ship when most of the passengers are off. With my Mother's limited Mobility, the Private Island would have presented too many challenges . I got off in Nassau, but only took a walk down the "shopping drag" then returned to the quiet of the ship. My Mother and I have been on 15 cruises , all with NCL, and this was the first where , because of my Mother's limited mobility that we travelled with the wheelchair. I was extremely impressed by the accessibility on the ship and the ease in getting around. The only negative, is that the corridors for the staterooms are very narrow. If there is a housekeeping cart, it was impossible to navigate the wheelchair around it. Fortunately, my Mother was able to walk around the cart without any problems. I was also impressed by the amount of Handicap Accessible Toilets. We booked the use of the Thermal Suite in advance, you save $20.00 as opposed to booking once on board. The Thermal Suite is one of the nicest places on board, quiet with comfortable lounge chairs with a view out the front of the ship and the Pool with various whirlpool jets is amazing. There are two Sauna's ; "dry" and "humid" , the Salt Room is also unique and very pretty. Disembarkation was also a breeze, with our Latitude Level, we were the second group to disembark. The Cruise could not have been better and I am looking forward to sailing again with NCL Read Less

Had a great time on this Mom and Son trip!! Cabin was great. Beds were very comfortable. Plenty of storage. Love my balcony, its the only way to go!! Although the cruise was packed we were still able to move about easily. We had an excellent room attendant Victor. He was super friendly and did a great job on our room. We loved the Gourmet dining, especially Tempeyakki and Cagney's, excellent food and service. My son went to the Entourage teen club. He said the counselors were really nice and there were lots of activities he liked. Entourage has a cool vibe with lots of color. Most importantly to my son, was the no parents allowed policy. He made lots of friends his age and they made plans to keep in touch. Great Job NCL and we will see you again in July with the whole family, 17 of us :) Read Less

I chose the Norwegian Getaway because it’s a mega ship that has it all! It was my second tome on her...and she didn’t disappoint! My cabin oceanview cabin was spacious, the dining was superb, and the entertainment and activities were plentiful and surpassed my expectations! The service we received was top notch! This time we had Vibe passes. We had so much fun and felt like VIPs! Both the embarkment and disembarkment went smoothly! Captain Roger and Vincent, our cruise director constantly communicated with us! The officers and cruise director came to our Cruise Critic meeting at Cagneys, where they set out snacks for us and were introduced to us, with an explanation of their duties. We had a slot pull in the casino, which was a lot of fun! They provided 2 bottles of wine for our consolation prizes! ( We didn’t hit a jackpot! Overall we had a fabulous time and look forward to sailing on her again! Read Less

An old pal flew out from California for our first Girls' Week Out cruise. We knew we would have a good time, especially with Unlimited Beverage and Select Dining packages included. The difference between a fun vacation and our unforgettable experience proved to be a major upgrade. Initially, we had booked a Mid Ship Balcony cabin (size about 250 square feet) on deck 14. . . OK, but tight space for both of us. We both were used to having lots of space and privacy at home. We're not kids, and we wanted to make the time away as pleasant as possible. Several weeks before the cruise, guests who were already booked received an email from NCL offering an opportunity to bid on an upgrade, Obviously, this was intended to maximize revenues. No guarantees, but you wouldn't lose your current cabin, and no additional deposit was required at that time. You could bid any amount you wanted within reason, and (more importantly) you could choose the type of cabin for which you wanted to bid. A little barometer illustration indicated bids at various levels (poor, fair, good and excellent). We had nothing to lose, so I placed a totally lowball bid on a cabin that included two separate bedrooms. To be honest, I didn't think we had any chance. Cut to two days before embarkation. NCL emailed me that we had, in fact, won the Deluxe Owners' Suite with Large Balcony upon which we had bid . . . 1301 square feet with 2 BR and 2.5 Ba, a huge forward balcony to die for, a smaller side balcony off the Master Suite, a huge wet bar, and unlimited soft drinks, bottled water, etc. We were located on Deck 18 in The Haven. It turned out to be the largest cabin on the Escape. Advice and random observations: 1. Observation: The Escape is BIG. Think 5200+ guests and 1760 crew members. There are all kinds of cabins available, from tiny inside digs for solo travelers (if you aren't claustrophobic) up through the upscale cabins in The Haven. If your priority is price, the varied options in the main section should meet your needs. On the Escape, be prepared for long lines and crazy waits for elevators. The pool area can also be insanely crowded. If you stay in the main portions of the ship, the Select Dining option is a plus. The basic dining options are adequate but invariably chaotic. Although kids seemed to be having a good time, the crowd was mostly adults. Question: Why on earth does the Escape allow double and triple strollers onboard? Bottlenecks galore. 1a. Big-time advice . . . stay in The Haven. It's far superior. Our cabin offered butler service (applause to "Blair" Kang, our butler), and The Haven has its own concierge (many thanks to Adrian Bica for all his help). Our cabin steward, Jennifer Ochengco, kept everything picture perfect. She also makes amazing towel creatures. As guests in The Haven, you'll have priority boarding the tenders. You will also be guided through alternative passages in the ship to attend evening shows without standing in lines. Haven guests have a separate seating section reserved in advance. Haven cabins are available in a variety of sizes. If you get a chance to bid on an upgrade, give it a try. It's worth the extra coin. Checking in at Pier 88 in Manhattan, we were able to wait to board in a comfortable reception room set aside for Haven guests. Think folding chairs, friendly greeters, and a few simple snacks/beverages. We felt so sorry for the folks staying in the main portions of the ship. Many had to stand in line for hours waiting to board, with only a few benches available. The Haven also has its own domed pool area with padded chaise lounges, cocktail lounge/lobby and private restaurant. The restaurant offers white tablecloth service and refreshing tranquility. It's comfortable for both adults and well-behaved children. The food is wonderful. Thanks to Made Silvana, Haven Restaurant host, for her warm welcome every day. How on earth does she remember all those guests' names? Impressive. If you get invited to the Captain's VIP Cocktail Party, by all means go. It's well worth a quick stop to meet Captain Niklas Persson (Swedish by the way, not Norwegian) and his officers. They were kind enough to accommodate several guests with a brief photo op on our cell phones. How often do I meet a real ship's captain?? We had a pleasant, brief conversation. Thanks, Master Persson! 2. Tons of activities on the Escape every day . . . actually, too many. Many are glorified sales pitches for the shops. Caveat emptor. I was surprised that the shopping onboard was so limited except for duty free, booze, mediocre art, watches, etc. I tried to find some fun travel gifts for the grandchildren, with limited success. 3. We saw two shows during our 7-day Florida and Bahamas cruise out of NYC: After Midnight and Choir of Man. Both are enthusiastically recommended! 4. Be sure to reserve shows and restaurants online as much as possible. Don't wait until you're on the ship. Plan it all out in advance, especially the Select Dining restaurants and the most popular shows. The worst that happens is that you cancel or switch later. The NCL website is extremely helpful and informative. Detail on The Haven was the only thing I had difficulty finding. 5. The mandatory onboard safety briefing was unexpectedly chaotic . . . tons of people wandering around the main public areas of the ship trying to find their muster stations, followed by some unintelligible information. Stations were not clearly marked when we were there. This process could use some improvement. 6. Four excursions were booked: Disney Springs, Daytona* (both from Port Canaveral), snorkeling in the sculpture garden on Great Stirrup Cay, and swimming with the dolphins* in Nassau. The two with * are highly recommended. The others were OK. Note: The physical demands (especially walking) involved in some of the excursions seemed to be underestimated in the descriptions. Ask a lot of questions of the NCL representatives online and on the phone while planning your trip. Just getting to transport in Nassau was quite a distance. 7. Suggestion: Load some movies on your iPad before you go. I tried to enjoy our luxe cabin as much as the journey, watching a movie now and then in off hours. I decided not to purchase any WiFi, and I survived the entire week! 8. I had never before sailed out of New York Harbor. What an experience! Seeing my favorite city in the world from that perspective was a memorable experience. 9. Advice: When you get to your cabin, ask your cabin steward to explain all the lighting controls, etc. It saves a lot of confusion later. 10. The casino on the ship is slots-driven, smoky, noisy and unremarkable. I didn't see one hand pay the entire cruise. You can lose money and be bored at the same time. 11. Need a wheelchair? Book it with the concierge in advance. When you return to NYC, if you need a taxi just cross 12th Avenue and it's pretty easy to get a yellow cab there. Fare to Penn Station was about $12 without tip. We returned on a Sunday morning, so traffic wasn't an issue. Note to out-of-towners: if guys approach you outside the docks asking if you need a ride, ignore them. Yellow cab (or Uber/Lyft if you're so inclined) only. 12. My ratings below reflect our experience in The Haven and the price we paid via the NCL auction. If we could book The Haven again, we would go in a heartbeat. Spectacular! Read Less

They always had a smile on their face and greeted us so cheerfully every time. They went above and beyond for us. I wouldn’t have changed a thing besides the final disembarkment process, that took FOREVER! All of the shows were so entertaining. Our favorite was Choir of Man and the Wine Lovers Musical. The comedians had great shows also. My husband and I did the Newlywed game and it was a blast. We had no idea that we would be famous because of it and everyone on the boat recognized us. Everyone on the boat was amazing. I felt like I was with family and I have been so sad since the day we got back because I miss it so much. Overall we are extremely happy with our experience and will definitely be back! Read Less

Sailed with NCL Escape on April 7,19 out of New York for the first time having done a few with NCL and other cruise lines before. It was one of our greatest sailings ever. We got a very nice large balcony cabin 8138, with two sunbathing beds, tables and chairs. Our cabin steward was beyond awesome and friendly. At the restaurants, prior to making an order, the waitresses always asked about any food allergies you may have to have, and we really appreciate for doing that. I celebrated my Birthday during the sailing and must to say, that the attention of our cruise director Kivanc and his assistant Danielle made our sailing spectacular above and beyond all expectations. Thank you very much for everything! While I have been on other Norwegian ships and enjoyed them, I would probably do another cruise on the Escape. However couple things have to be improved: the variety of the night shows, and next cruise booking for Canadian guests (No Canadian dollar bookings on the CruiseNext Desk). I would like to thank Marthinus for all the help and support he provided. For the people who are planning to park their car at the port, be aware that the price per day is $40.00US. https://www.nycruise.com/manhattan-terminal/parking/ Read Less

I have always been hesitant of taking a cruise, but I am so happy I finally did and I am glad I did so by traveling with the Norwegian family. Everyone on the boat seemed as if they were handpicked, from the people checking us in to the person taking care of our room to the bar tenders, waiters and captain, etc... super nice people always caring for us. The rooms were wonderful, comfortable beds and the food was fabulous from the buffet to the restaurants. So much to do on board, music and activities for all of all ages, my son loved the teen center, made friends that i feel will last a lifetime. Super elegant decor... The favorite part of my day was waking up and having my morning coffee on my balcony and looking out at the sea... breathtaking. I will definitely be back to spend time with our Norwegian family :) i do have one complaint which was the disembarkation... it took way too long and very unorganized, it stressed ever one out after such a stress free week. We always cruise out of NYC, I cannot fly and the Port in NYC is fantastic. The pierside team was very helpful and the Port manager Kenny could not have been any more helpful. We arrived a little before 10:00 and were onboard by 11:00. This was our 7th cruise with NCL and 2nd on the Escape. We sailed one previous cruise with another line and were less than pleased almost to the point of not wanting to cruise again.      We sailed this past July and had a great time. We went to the CC meet and greet, and had the opportunity to meet some of the executive staff. We booked this trip, with 4 other families and there was a total of 15. We bid on the Haven upgrade and were successful. Since sailing in July and having made friends with the restaurant manager Mr. Melroy, we have stayed in contact and were happy to see him back. From day one he took care of the entire group. He was an absolute blessing for a large group.      This is our third NCL ship and by far the best, the Haven was as expected, nothing short of perfect. The concierge Adrian was spot on every time, the Butler Christopher took great care of us and the kids loved him. Dennis our room Stewart was also fantastic, always interested in our day and making sure we had a great time.  The haven family two bedroom worked perfect.  The kids had there own space and bathroom. Even with some of there friends watching a movie they were never under foot. Ample storage space for the Mrs's and my suit case fit perfect under the bed Read Less

We have cruised NCL many times and have always found the ships and staff to be extremely attentive to our every needs. This cruise was so special: with our children and grandchildren to celebrate my retirement and also my granddaughter's 6th birthday . Our first cruise with all 9 of us. The grandchildren (ages, 4, 4.5, 5.5) had a grand time in Spash Academy. They even put on a production in the large theater. The meals were terrific. We were invited to a special cocktail party with the Captain and Staff. Wonderful evening!! They heard about our celebrations and sent snacks, chocolate covered strawberries, Prosecco, Wine to our three cabins! They even decorated my granddaughter's cabin and my cabin by surprise for our celebrations! The staff, especially Kivanc Ucar, Hotel Director, Melroy Rebeiro, restaurant manager, and Danielle Reyes, hotel director secretary were so attentive to our every need. It was definitely a family cruise to remember forever! Read Less
