Sunsush. Head mixologist , kesar bartender , saber bartender, jimmy waiter, wayouin bartender/Waiter Karina wine steward. Were the best servers ... They are five star Employees and Norwegian is very luck to have such amazing people working for them... they made our trip memorable and I can’t say enough about their talent , compassion and sense of humor. The food was amazing ... the restaurants were on time together and made your experience special ... we had a girls week ..6 of us had many laughs with crew members...The spa was great and the service was always with a smile. We all had a lot of fun and can’t wait to do it again . My husband and I are going to book for next year. I couldn’t be happier or ask for anything more ...all our needs were taken care of. There were days when the waiters would just come and give you a cold water because it was so hot and they wanted you to be hydrated. Amazing time Laura Read Less

I live in New York and like sailing from here. The Dawn was the ship I took my first cruise more than ten years ago. I know that it was renovated and it looked beautiful. Embarkation went smoothly because my sister who traveled with me needed wheel chair assistance which we received shortly after arriving at the pier. We were immediatley taken to security and on the ship. That was excellent service. We had to wait a little while for our room to be ready, however a delicious buffet lunch was waiting for us. W had a balcony room with a pull out bed. Even though it was three of us in the room we were comfortable. Our cabin stewart gave us excellent service. Overall the food was good the only critizen was at breakfast the bacon everyday was over or under cooked presented in a big ball which was hard to pull apart. The overall cruise was excellent Read Less

This was our first cruise decided on Norwegian for the free at sea promotion. The staff was so attentive and fun in particular the wait/bar staff. Feel like we made friends actually kind of miss some of them! They were personable remembered our names and drink preferences I was really impressed. The only negative I can think of is the food options being a vegetarian I thought the options were pretty limited. We did eat at Cagneys which was really good. The main dining rooms were good. O’sheehans was our favorite the staff was fun and added to the whole vacation feel. The decor onboard was dated but the cleanliness made up for this. The cruise director, Richard was engaging and had more energy than just about anyone I’ve ever seen! There were so many options of things to do you could make your cruise exactly what you want it to be. Entertainment was great. Read Less

It was great that we departed from NYC, where we lived. The disembarking went smoothly and the view of the city from the ship was great. The crew gave us a great first time experience. We booked the meal package and it was well worth it. The dinning crew were very professional and friendly. The food was excellent. The buffet and complementary food was good as well. My wife and 18 year old daughter loved the SPA. My workout was going up and down the stairs throughout the trip:)!. The Housekeeping crew ensure that the cabin was clean and very friendly. The entrainment was excellent with a cruise director that never went to sleep. He started every morning with dance lessons, made announcements, hosted the various shows throughout the day and the shows and parties every night. We loved Richard and his crew. The ports and shore excursions were the best! Read Less

We love sailing on Norwegian. The flexibility really works for us. The food is great, the activities and entertainment are fun. Everyone was friendly. I found some great places to relax and read whether I wanted sun or shade. It was exciting to sail out of NYC and still be in the US for our first port day. Had an excellent time in Port Canaveral. Our cabin was quiet when we wanted to sleep. It was also clean and roomy enough for two. Our steward kept it clean and well stocked all week. The restaurants had delicious food. We never waited for a table. We talked with some nice couples who were seated near us. The hostess gave us window seats when they were available. There are so many specialty restaurants to choose from. Any appetite would be happy with the choices. We are already looking for a Norwegian cruise for next summer. Read Less

First time cruising since childhood, and just like in the early 90s, I was with my parents. We live in Manhattan so it was beyond easy to get to the Dawn. We boarded around 12:30 and since my parents were already onboard a lovely check-in attendant skipped us ahead in the line and saved us what was probably an hour of waiting. Which turned out to be a theme: the gracious, genuine, cheerful staff. I thought the service rivaled and surpassed some of the best hotels I’ve stayed at anywhere. SHIP Not a cruise expert but I enjoyed the ship. Most of it looks pretty modern with a few exceptions. The Venetian restaurant, which is quite grand, also seems to have missed the renovation — except for some “classic” Venetian artwork which has bizarre blocks of color painted over it, in my guess, an attempt to modernize without spending. But most of the venues are pretty nice with that cruise-bling-flair. I agree with some others that they layout can be confusing. The pool deck is a lot of fun (though pool itself seemed small to me) and the gym is big with good equipment. CLEANLINESS The housekeeping is amazing. The room was cleaned twice a day (scrubbed!) and the public areas were spotless. Minor requests handled immediately. Lovely team. ENTERTAINMENT Not really my jam but we were never bored and enjoyed using the app to find things to do. We saw the Elements show which was impressive. The trivia stuff was fun. FOOD & DRINK Great! I was really so surprised. I actually liked the included dining (Venetian, Aqua, and Garden buffet) better than the specialty (pay up) options. Los Lobos was just okay. Italian was just okay. Churrascaria was impressive. French was pretty good. The Premium Beverage Package was awesome. All top shelf liquor and drinks included. There is another level above that which I think might include Starbucks but we absolutely didn’t need anything more than PBP. EXCURSIONS Now here is where I’m going to be a little critical. Kennedy Space Center was fine and I thought we had enough time there. Great Stirrup Cay turned out to be a bit of a bust because it was hot and rainy. The tendering process was stressful in getting on and off the small boat due to choppy water. Literally caught a woman who almost took a major fall boarding. We found out while on the boat over that our first activity (waverunner) was canceled from another guest. Would have been good if an announcement was made prior. Hung around the island for several hours having drinks which was actually really fun waiting for the second activity (swim with pigs) which was then canceled about 5 minutes prior to starting due to weather. We were refunded the same day for both as a ship credit. Nassau, we just did it all wrong. I had been to Nassau many years ago and remembered it to be a little edgy but interesting. We decided to explore on our own (DON’T) and it’s now a total tourist trap where you are bombarded with people trying to sell you on tours, taxis, insanely repetitive souvenirs. We finally wandered to the National Art Museum which was charming. If given a do-over, I would have either done an organized Atlantis excursion or just stayed on the ship. Frankly I enjoyed the at-sea days so much more than the excursions. Not an excursion per se but on an at-sea day we did the behind the scenes tour of the ship and I LOVED that and found it totally worth the money. They limit it to a very small group and it isn’t listed anywhere so book at the excursions desk on the first day before it fills up. The insane cleanliness of the food prep areas only made me want to eat more! STAFF Five stars for the staff all around. They were just wonderful. OTHER I agree there is a lot of selling going on. Activities that are at an extra charge. Spa treatments with a heavy handed attempt to hawk products. It could be toned down (a lot). VALUE We took advantage of all of the included food, drinks, activities and I thought for a seven day vacation it was a tremendous value and a lot of fun. I would do it again. And will repeat myself here: the staff is great all around. Read Less

This was my 6th cruise... 4 on Norwegian, 1 on Royal Caribbean and 1 on Carnival. NCL remains my top choice and its not even close. The dining is tremendous, however you MUST have a specialty dining package. NCL offers so many promotional upgrades there is really no reason why not to have it. We ate at Moderno, Cagney's, La Cucina, and Los Lobos. All were fantastic, with Cagney's being as good as any steakhouse on land. We were in a balcony room and it was as good as any stateroom on any other boat. Not a ton of storage and a small bathroom but that is life on a cruise ship. Our steward was not great, but not bad and really did not diminish the trip or add to it in any way and mainly stayed out of our way which was fine. The entertainment was unreal. The comedian Troy Thirdgill was as funny as any comedian I have ever seen, never mind for a cruise. The dancers and singers were fantastic and we often went to their other performances elsewhere on the ship. The magician was okay, not great. The acrobatic performance was amazing also. This was my 3rd time doing the florida and bahamas itinerary and it is starting to get old. The Florida stop is a waste. Coco Beach is no nicer than the Jersey Shore and the prices are through the roof for anything there since it is the only beach to access from Port Canaveral and they know it. Nassau was beautiful and we went to Balmoral Island for the first time this year. Got us away from the riff raff of the island on other beaches while offering far lower prices than Atlantis. Its rained some on the private island but we made the most of it and the sun came out in the afternoon. The island there is beautiful. The ship itself felt old. There were not many places to "hang out" outside of a small Gatsby's bar on floor 6 where there was often a below average pianist playing. Could use another place outside of that or the nightclub to have a drink. Could also add more to the pool area but that is just my taste. Read Less

This cruise and this ship were, all-around, an excellent experience. Friendly and helpful crew, top notch entertainment, excellent food and food venues!! Smaller ship with many passengers so it was full of energy and crowded at times, but, never-the- less, a relaxing vacation where you could set your own pace and schedule. Beautiful decor throughout the ship, easy to access all areas and easy to learn the lay-out in a very short time. Specialty restaurants were wonderful with masterfully prepared food that was just the right size portion. We can say enough to praise the pastry chefs on this ship. Every day different creations were delicious, as were all entrees. The view of the sunsets and sunrises from our cabin balcony was breathtaking at time. Organization of debarkation for Castaway Cay was poorly done with poor oversight in the lobby area (Atrium) so confusion reigned! However, this is the only negative I can say about this cruise. For the first time cruisers that we were, it introduced us in a wonderful manner to cruising....we will most probably return in the future! Read Less

The dining package was worth every penny. Have another cruise booked for 2021 and will possibly will do the New England cruise in 2020. The entertainment was great, the seats in everything theater on every ship are very uncomfortable. But still love the shows. Hid dyxjs for the first time also found ducks for the first time . It was fun Our steward made towel animals for us and my room was decorated for my 60th birthday The pool was awesome, we had no trouble getting chairs. They did not put them out until 8am so plenty of time to eat and then go to the pool. The game shows were fun, played Bingo once and Deal or Bo Deal everytime. Read Less

We are seasoned NCL cruisers and have been on the Dawn before (most recently in 2013 before her renovation) and I can say that this was one of our favorite cruises ever. From the embarkation process (less than 30 minutes from parking at the pier to waiting to get on the ship) to the last morning the staff went above and beyond to make everyone's vacation great. Bartender at the pool knew our names and drinks after our first order (evern my 3 year old daughter's shirley temple). Pool area was well laid out and even though the pool itself got crowded (we had 7 days of 85 degrees and sunny) there was never an issue finding a seat due to the stadium seating. You could always find a bartender at the pool to take your drink order and there were people cleaning up used plates and cups everywhere. We participated in almost everything the ship had to offer and I enjoyed everything from the buffet (great breakfast) to the specialty restaurants (run don't walk to Los Lobos) as well as Trivia (lots of fun), the pool, the spa (best spa on any NCL ship I have been on), the casino, Deal or No Deal (we actually WON), and the kids club (my 3 year old enjoyed all of the activities). The cabin was quite small even for NCL standards as our balcony felt tight with just 2 of us in it. Our room steward was good and was always around if we needed anything which was nice though. Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau were wonderful ports (we rented a clamshell on GSC and took the Blue Lagoon excursion in Nassau which I highly recommend to anyone who likes the beach). We did not get off in Port Canaveral as we have been there before and didn't love the stop. Glad we decided not to go to the beach as there were shark sightings and no one could go into the water the day we were there. We will be sailing again in the next few months and I would recommenced this ship to anyone looking for good food and lots to do. Read Less

I love trying new experience and I'm glad I did it with norwegian. Already set my 2nd cruise. The entertainment was amazing as well. The bingo was good too a lil expensive but it was fun. I enjoyed everything on this ship and I recommend this to anyone trying to experience their 1st time cruise. It's the best and I was a judge for the sexy man legs. It was super fun. The director kept us busy at all times. The magic show was a plus. My family and I truly enjoyed the private island that we ported at. The water was blue and the sand was white. U could swim with the pigs imagine that.the ports was easy to get to. The shopping is amazing but be careful and don't get duped my the locals they are a little dishonest I saw when they was charging people 2 dollars to use the public bathroom and they like to over charge so be careful. Family of 5, we chose it for the destinations. The Kennedy center in Port Canaveral was very interesting and fun. Stirrup Cay was breathtaking. The buffet was great. Lots of choices. Market area pretty cool, lots of fun items. Even saw iguanas. Naussau also had a great beach which we walked to from the pier, sure if take a taxi or bus can find a quieter and secluded beach. Pretty city. Great morning taxi tour by charles and son zack. Free samples of rum cake, chocolate, teas and wine. Got what i wanted seeing the Queen's staircase. Beautiful pictures. Cruise staff was very kind and sweet. We dinned mostly buffet because of variety, everyone was happy and ate a lot. Dinned at the venetian and aqua few times also very good, service great. Overall great vacation. Only complaint I have is the size of the one main pool. For the size of ship and amount of guests its way too small. With 2 days of cruising it got quite crowded. Had to wait for later hour to be able to soak comfortably. Activities, games, shows all really fun. Lots to do and can also find a quiet spot to relax. I do recommend this ship and this itinerary. Maybe we are just too easy to please on a cruise vacation, but we had another great sailing on the Dawn! We have sailed on her twice before her 2016 dry dock and twice after. We booked this cruise around Christmas 2018. We originally booked an inside cabin, then kept an eye on the price and available rooms and eventually upgraded to porthole ocean view, regular ocean view and finally balcony for almost no additional cost. It never hurts to call and ask! We drove from our place to Manhattan in a few hours. Left the car at Park Right on 43rd at 10am. Have used them before and been pleased. 10 min walk with our bags to the ship. We arrived at the terminal around 10:30am. This is our second platinum cruise so we were ushered to the vip line. Made it through security and check in in about 12 minutes and were group ONE to board. Waited about an hour and were having lunch and drinks in O’Sheehans by 11:15! DINING We had two specialty dining’s meals due to platinum status and we had the 3-meal dining plan as well, and we always eat in Bamboo the last night. So we never ate a dinner in the main DR. We ate at LeBostro, Los Lobos 2x, Cagneys, Moderno, LaCucina, abd Bamboo. All were very good! Best meal probably at Los Lobos, but we love it there. Excellent service everywhere. We do like to eat around 5:30-6. We find it less crowded then, servers seem less rushed, and we get out in plenty of time for the shows. Don’t miss the coconut avacado ice cream in Los Lobos! They make it there and it is unique and delicious! We ate many breakfasts and lunches in O’Sheehans and had good food and service. Also a few leisurely breakfasts in the MDR which were very nice. ROOM Loved our balcony! Julie did a great job except for one day that our room was not made up until 1pm, and we had been by the pool since 8am so not sure what happened there. Final day at sea our room safe DIED. Made a weird noise and refused to open. Our passports and all valuables in it. They sent someone to check it out within 10 minutes of our call. After a few tries they finally got it open so we could get our valuables out but it no longer would lock. We were told they would bring a replacement but might be a while. Ughhh. Well low and behold it was replaced within an hour while we were at dinner! ENTERTAINMENT we loved the comedian Jim Colliton and saw all 3 of his shows! The 2 on the same night were very similar but he does a lot of banter with the audience so course that is different every time. Loved Elements and Showdown. Those singers and dancers work their tails off and always give 100%! Loved the aerialists, wish they had a show of their own! Finally got to see Jose and Patti! Have read so many nice things about them and they did not disappoint! Caught their act in the atrium every time we could. They need their own lounge act! Loved their positive vibe and stories of their years traveling and performing! Enjoyed CD Luz and her sidekick Vo. Favorite shows were the not-so-newlywed game and The Perfect Couple show. Laughed til I cried. EXCURSIONS Have been to port Canaveral so many times that for once we just laid by the pool and stayed on the ship. It was awesome! We had the UBP which we made good use of. Made it to GSC!! We have missed the island several times in the past due to weather but the weather was great. We rented a clam shell for $35 which counts as an excursion so we were on the first tender. The clam shell was HOT, Luke being in a tent. And we walked down the path a ways and found a very nice shaded area with picnic tables that was much nicer than our clam shell. Live and learn. Water was perfect, lots of fish. Island felt very uncrowded being that we were on a smaller ship like Dawn. This island has to accommodate the larger new ships, so it worked out well for us. Ate at the make your own taco bar which was tasty! I think my only suggestion for the Dawn would be more chaise lounges by the pool. There are very few that are right around the pool, and they don’t set them up until at least 7am or later. We never had a problem getting two chairs until the last day. A number of us were all waiting for the chairs to be set up and it was getting close to 8am. One grumpy lady shoved her way over very rudely and grinned chairs that other people had been waiting patiently for an hour to get. It wasn’t worth arguing with her. We wished her a nice cruise and selected two different chairs a row away. It’s vacation, folks! Relax and smile! I know we sure did! Read Less

My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary with our first cruise on Norweigian Dawn from NYC. We both flew from Western Canada to join this cruise and we both were extremely impressed for the following reasons. First, the staff at Norweigian we're very helpful, energetic and amazing individuals. From the housekeeping, waiters, cooks, cruise staff, ship operations and entertainers these people are the back bone of your operation and I am very impressed how much preparation, thought and well executed everything was. We were very happy with the food experience as food in Garden Cafe (buffet) continually changed so often. Only lack lustre food was at Bamboo which was less than quality of food court Chinese food. The restaurants Aqua, Venetien, O'Sheehans were all fantastic with great food and great wait staff. All the ports of call were well organized and good options. This was the most excellent experience my wife and I have been on and we're very thankful to all the hard working staff. All the shows, comedian, magician and entertainers were amazing. The games were activities on board were fun too. Most shows/entertainment was geared towards demographics of 50-70 years old so therefore most of the songs we had no idea since we are in our early 30's. It would be nice to have songs that encapsulate a broader demographic. The ports of Port Canaveral wouldn't have enough time at Disney World (only 4 hours there) so we spent time at Disney Springs. There's not much to do at Disney Springs. Next time I think I would choose the Space station tour. At the Great Stirrup Cay it was an amazing little island with great service, beaches and fun snorkelling. At Nassau it was nice to see Atlantis. We were on Deck 5 and were quite happy with the accomodations having a window. The housekeeping was very good making sure everything was clean and in order. We were very happy with everything but we didn't win anything at Bingo, Deal or No deal, or got picked for any of the games. We would definately choose this ship or NCL again! Read Less

Our cruise on the NCL Dawn was unexpectedly awesome. We were hesitant after reading some questionable reviews. I should have learned by now (over 26 cruises) to take all reviews with a grain of salt and to make up my own mind. Although the Dawn is an older ship, it was in excellent shape. The decor was fresh and understated. It was extremely clean. The staff members were mainly very friendly and accommodating especially our stateroom attendant Dong and our server in the Venetian dining room, Gloria. We had a picture window cabin on deck 5 (5610). It was very accessible to the stairs and elevators. It was really spacious with plenty of storage space. we loved the bathroom set up and the shower was huge for this class cabin.Water pressure was great too. It was perfect for us. The food was excellent for the most part. For the first time ever we never set foot in the buffet and did not miss it. We ate breakfast every morning in the Venetian dining room and lunch there as well or at O'Sheehans. Four nights were in the Venetian and we also ate in Le Bistro, Cagney's and Teppanyaki. All were excellent except the Hibachi as the ventilation was not working at our table and our clothes became very smoky as well as burning eyes. After some struggling, NCL did make it right by giving us a refund. We also enjoyed the entertainment especially the husband and wife duo, Azalea. They were extremely talented and we loved all their songs. I even bought their CD of their original music and I can't stop listening! I feel that they should be performing on the main stage. I wasn't too excited about our ports because I have been there before but we had a great time. In Port Canaveral we did the ship excursion that took us to the Orlando wheel, sea aquarium and Madam Tussaud's. It was fun and entertaining. It was the perfect choice for a steamy hot day as it is all inside and air conditioned. We were so happy that we made it to Great Stirrup Cay as the seas were calm. It was a beautiful day and the water was terrific with a smooth sandy bottom. I loved that the ship's pool band, VIP, came to perform on the island. In Nassau we did a private tour called Tru Bahamian food and walking tour. Our guide, Gabrielle, was very knowledgeable and entertaining. All of the stops we made served delicious filling samples of Bahamian cooking. I would highly recommend this tour company. Embarkation and disembarkation were very smooth with no concerns. I would not hesitate to sail on the NCL Dawn again! Enjoy! Read Less

My granddaughter was very excited, happy, got a wonderful time especially she was happy with Garden Cafe where she could pick up any food and ice cream any time she was craving for it. She liked activities in Splash Academy and made friends of her age. so everybody had a good time for her/his own. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. Cabin was comfortable, clean thanks to our steward's efforts. My Mother and I booked this cruise just two weeks prior to sailing and the timing was perfect. My Mother will turn 90 in July and has limited mobility, I purchased a light weight transport wheelchair and that made the cruise so much easier for my Mother to enjoy the cruise. We booked a "Sail a Way" Mini Suite, which meant that we did not choose the cabin location, however received a very good rate. NCL's "free at sea" offer does not apply to the "Sail a Way" rate. We are Platinum Latitude level and that level comes with two nights in one of the Specialty Dining Venues and the unlimited Drink Package actually comes with a charge of $138.00 for the gratuities, so the "Sail a Way" rate was a better deal for us. Embarkation was a breeze and we will able to get on board and into the cabin by 1:00 to drop off the carry on bag, then off to lunch in the Savor dining room for a relaxing delicious lunch away from the crowds, Cabin: Our Mini Suite was perfect, the cabin is narrow, and the Wheelchair folds easily and didn't take up too much space. The beds were very comfortable and the sitting area spacious enough for us. The closet is large with plenty of hangers and storage shelves. It is nice to have a balcony, although we prefer to be in the public areas of the ship and spent very little time out on it. The Bathroom is very spacious, with a tub and a large vanity, and plenty of storage. Our Cabin Steward was excellent, my Mother and I are very neat and I think we helped make his job easy. We ate in two of the Specialty Restaurants ; Moderno and Le Bistro. I enjoyed Moderno, my Mother not so much so, I think she was overwhelmed by the amount of offerings. We didn't make a reservation in advance at Le Bistro, however, we went there at 5:45 on the second to last day of the cruise and the Hostess was able to seat us, which was good as we had a voucher for complimentary dining and didn't want to lose out. I would recommend making reservations early as they tend to fill up fast. We tried all three of the Complimentary Main Dining Venues and found them equally enjoyable and had no problem with the service. Every Evening we would enjoy a Martini before dinner, choosing the Atrium as there was always interesting action to observe. The Bartender was excellent and after the second night, remembered our drink preference. On previous cruises, NCL provided a bowl of bar snacks with our Drinks, the first night they didn't and when I asked I got a bit of a run around. The First day at Sea, there was a "Q & A" with the Ships Senior Staff, I asked about the Bar Snacks and received a "non-answer" why they were not provided. However, as we left the "Q & A", the Beverage Manager followed us and asked for our Cabin Number. Later that day a large zip lock baggie of bar snacks appeared in our Cabin, so we were able to enjoy the snacks with our Marini's for the rest of the cruise. I suspect, the elimination of the bar snacks has to do with the potential spread of germs, although it would have been nice if the ships staff confirmed. We went to two of the shows, the comedy act, which was very good and the Million Dollar Quartet , which was also very entertaining. We didn't get off the Ship in either Port Canaveral of the Private Island. We had been to the Kennedy Space Center on a previous cruise and enjoy the quiet of the ship when most of the passengers are off. With my Mother's limited Mobility, the Private Island would have presented too many challenges . I got off in Nassau, but only took a walk down the "shopping drag" then returned to the quiet of the ship. My Mother and I have been on 15 cruises , all with NCL, and this was the first where , because of my Mother's limited mobility that we travelled with the wheelchair. I was extremely impressed by the accessibility on the ship and the ease in getting around. The only negative, is that the corridors for the staterooms are very narrow. If there is a housekeeping cart, it was impossible to navigate the wheelchair around it. Fortunately, my Mother was able to walk around the cart without any problems. I was also impressed by the amount of Handicap Accessible Toilets. We booked the use of the Thermal Suite in advance, you save $20.00 as opposed to booking once on board. The Thermal Suite is one of the nicest places on board, quiet with comfortable lounge chairs with a view out the front of the ship and the Pool with various whirlpool jets is amazing. There are two Sauna's ; "dry" and "humid" , the Salt Room is also unique and very pretty. Disembarkation was also a breeze, with our Latitude Level, we were the second group to disembark. The Cruise could not have been better and I am looking forward to sailing again with NCL Read Less

Had a great time on this Mom and Son trip!! Cabin was great. Beds were very comfortable. Plenty of storage. Love my balcony, its the only way to go!! Although the cruise was packed we were still able to move about easily. We had an excellent room attendant Victor. He was super friendly and did a great job on our room. We loved the Gourmet dining, especially Tempeyakki and Cagney's, excellent food and service. My son went to the Entourage teen club. He said the counselors were really nice and there were lots of activities he liked. Entourage has a cool vibe with lots of color. Most importantly to my son, was the no parents allowed policy. He made lots of friends his age and they made plans to keep in touch. Great Job NCL and we will see you again in July with the whole family, 17 of us :) Read Less

I chose the Norwegian Getaway because it’s a mega ship that has it all! It was my second tome on her...and she didn’t disappoint! My cabin oceanview cabin was spacious, the dining was superb, and the entertainment and activities were plentiful and surpassed my expectations! The service we received was top notch! This time we had Vibe passes. We had so much fun and felt like VIPs! Both the embarkment and disembarkment went smoothly! Captain Roger and Vincent, our cruise director constantly communicated with us! The officers and cruise director came to our Cruise Critic meeting at Cagneys, where they set out snacks for us and were introduced to us, with an explanation of their duties. We had a slot pull in the casino, which was a lot of fun! They provided 2 bottles of wine for our consolation prizes! ( We didn’t hit a jackpot! Overall we had a fabulous time and look forward to sailing on her again! Read Less

An old pal flew out from California for our first Girls' Week Out cruise. We knew we would have a good time, especially with Unlimited Beverage and Select Dining packages included. The difference between a fun vacation and our unforgettable experience proved to be a major upgrade. Initially, we had booked a Mid Ship Balcony cabin (size about 250 square feet) on deck 14. . . OK, but tight space for both of us. We both were used to having lots of space and privacy at home. We're not kids, and we wanted to make the time away as pleasant as possible. Several weeks before the cruise, guests who were already booked received an email from NCL offering an opportunity to bid on an upgrade, Obviously, this was intended to maximize revenues. No guarantees, but you wouldn't lose your current cabin, and no additional deposit was required at that time. You could bid any amount you wanted within reason, and (more importantly) you could choose the type of cabin for which you wanted to bid. A little barometer illustration indicated bids at various levels (poor, fair, good and excellent). We had nothing to lose, so I placed a totally lowball bid on a cabin that included two separate bedrooms. To be honest, I didn't think we had any chance. Cut to two days before embarkation. NCL emailed me that we had, in fact, won the Deluxe Owners' Suite with Large Balcony upon which we had bid . . . 1301 square feet with 2 BR and 2.5 Ba, a huge forward balcony to die for, a smaller side balcony off the Master Suite, a huge wet bar, and unlimited soft drinks, bottled water, etc. We were located on Deck 18 in The Haven. It turned out to be the largest cabin on the Escape. Advice and random observations: 1. Observation: The Escape is BIG. Think 5200+ guests and 1760 crew members. There are all kinds of cabins available, from tiny inside digs for solo travelers (if you aren't claustrophobic) up through the upscale cabins in The Haven. If your priority is price, the varied options in the main section should meet your needs. On the Escape, be prepared for long lines and crazy waits for elevators. The pool area can also be insanely crowded. If you stay in the main portions of the ship, the Select Dining option is a plus. The basic dining options are adequate but invariably chaotic. Although kids seemed to be having a good time, the crowd was mostly adults. Question: Why on earth does the Escape allow double and triple strollers onboard? Bottlenecks galore. 1a. Big-time advice . . . stay in The Haven. It's far superior. Our cabin offered butler service (applause to "Blair" Kang, our butler), and The Haven has its own concierge (many thanks to Adrian Bica for all his help). Our cabin steward, Jennifer Ochengco, kept everything picture perfect. She also makes amazing towel creatures. As guests in The Haven, you'll have priority boarding the tenders. You will also be guided through alternative passages in the ship to attend evening shows without standing in lines. Haven guests have a separate seating section reserved in advance. Haven cabins are available in a variety of sizes. If you get a chance to bid on an upgrade, give it a try. It's worth the extra coin. Checking in at Pier 88 in Manhattan, we were able to wait to board in a comfortable reception room set aside for Haven guests. Think folding chairs, friendly greeters, and a few simple snacks/beverages. We felt so sorry for the folks staying in the main portions of the ship. Many had to stand in line for hours waiting to board, with only a few benches available. The Haven also has its own domed pool area with padded chaise lounges, cocktail lounge/lobby and private restaurant. The restaurant offers white tablecloth service and refreshing tranquility. It's comfortable for both adults and well-behaved children. The food is wonderful. Thanks to Made Silvana, Haven Restaurant host, for her warm welcome every day. How on earth does she remember all those guests' names? Impressive. If you get invited to the Captain's VIP Cocktail Party, by all means go. It's well worth a quick stop to meet Captain Niklas Persson (Swedish by the way, not Norwegian) and his officers. They were kind enough to accommodate several guests with a brief photo op on our cell phones. How often do I meet a real ship's captain?? We had a pleasant, brief conversation. Thanks, Master Persson! 2. Tons of activities on the Escape every day . . . actually, too many. Many are glorified sales pitches for the shops. Caveat emptor. I was surprised that the shopping onboard was so limited except for duty free, booze, mediocre art, watches, etc. I tried to find some fun travel gifts for the grandchildren, with limited success. 3. We saw two shows during our 7-day Florida and Bahamas cruise out of NYC: After Midnight and Choir of Man. Both are enthusiastically recommended! 4. Be sure to reserve shows and restaurants online as much as possible. Don't wait until you're on the ship. Plan it all out in advance, especially the Select Dining restaurants and the most popular shows. The worst that happens is that you cancel or switch later. The NCL website is extremely helpful and informative. Detail on The Haven was the only thing I had difficulty finding. 5. The mandatory onboard safety briefing was unexpectedly chaotic . . . tons of people wandering around the main public areas of the ship trying to find their muster stations, followed by some unintelligible information. Stations were not clearly marked when we were there. This process could use some improvement. 6. Four excursions were booked: Disney Springs, Daytona* (both from Port Canaveral), snorkeling in the sculpture garden on Great Stirrup Cay, and swimming with the dolphins* in Nassau. The two with * are highly recommended. The others were OK. Note: The physical demands (especially walking) involved in some of the excursions seemed to be underestimated in the descriptions. Ask a lot of questions of the NCL representatives online and on the phone while planning your trip. Just getting to transport in Nassau was quite a distance. 7. Suggestion: Load some movies on your iPad before you go. I tried to enjoy our luxe cabin as much as the journey, watching a movie now and then in off hours. I decided not to purchase any WiFi, and I survived the entire week! 8. I had never before sailed out of New York Harbor. What an experience! Seeing my favorite city in the world from that perspective was a memorable experience. 9. Advice: When you get to your cabin, ask your cabin steward to explain all the lighting controls, etc. It saves a lot of confusion later. 10. The casino on the ship is slots-driven, smoky, noisy and unremarkable. I didn't see one hand pay the entire cruise. You can lose money and be bored at the same time. 11. Need a wheelchair? Book it with the concierge in advance. When you return to NYC, if you need a taxi just cross 12th Avenue and it's pretty easy to get a yellow cab there. Fare to Penn Station was about $12 without tip. We returned on a Sunday morning, so traffic wasn't an issue. Note to out-of-towners: if guys approach you outside the docks asking if you need a ride, ignore them. Yellow cab (or Uber/Lyft if you're so inclined) only. 12. My ratings below reflect our experience in The Haven and the price we paid via the NCL auction. If we could book The Haven again, we would go in a heartbeat. Spectacular! Read Less

We had an AMAZING time! Everything was perfect. Jacky the cruise Director was awesome! He was very involved and had us laughing the entire time. All of the staff was so pleasant to be around. They always had a smile on their face and greeted us so cheerfully every time. They went above and beyond for us. I wouldn’t have changed a thing besides the final disembarkment process, that took FOREVER! All of the shows were so entertaining. Our favorite was Choir of Man and the Wine Lovers Musical. The comedians had great shows also. My husband and I did the Newlywed game and it was a blast. We had no idea that we would be famous because of it and everyone on the boat recognized us. Everyone on the boat was amazing. I felt like I was with family and I have been so sad since the day we got back because I miss it so much. Overall we are extremely happy with our experience and will definitely be back! Read Less

Sailed with NCL Escape on April 7,19 out of New York for the first time having done a few with NCL and other cruise lines before. It was one of our greatest sailings ever. We got a very nice large balcony cabin 8138, with two sunbathing beds, tables and chairs. Our cabin steward was beyond awesome and friendly. At the restaurants, prior to making an order, the waitresses always asked about any food allergies you may have to have, and we really appreciate for doing that. I celebrated my Birthday during the sailing and must to say, that the attention of our cruise director Kivanc and his assistant Danielle made our sailing spectacular above and beyond all expectations. Thank you very much for everything! While I have been on other Norwegian ships and enjoyed them, I would probably do another cruise on the Escape. However couple things have to be improved: the variety of the night shows, and next cruise booking for Canadian guests (No Canadian dollar bookings on the CruiseNext Desk). I would like to thank Marthinus for all the help and support he provided. For the people who are planning to park their car at the port, be aware that the price per day is $40.00US. https://www.nycruise.com/manhattan-terminal/parking/ Read Less

I have always been hesitant of taking a cruise, but I am so happy I finally did and I am glad I did so by traveling with the Norwegian family. Everyone on the boat seemed as if they were handpicked, from the people checking us in to the person taking care of our room to the bar tenders, waiters and captain, etc... super nice people always caring for us. The rooms were wonderful, comfortable beds and the food was fabulous from the buffet to the restaurants. So much to do on board, music and activities for all of all ages, my son loved the teen center, made friends that i feel will last a lifetime. Super elegant decor... The favorite part of my day was waking up and having my morning coffee on my balcony and looking out at the sea... breathtaking. I will definitely be back to spend time with our Norwegian family :) i do have one complaint which was the disembarkation... it took way too long and very unorganized, it stressed ever one out after such a stress free week.
