Review for a Caribbean - Southern Cruise on Norwegian Breakaway

I have been on many cruise lines and enjoyed them all. This was the worst experience I have ever had. They charge $7.95 for every room service order! They charge $.99 a minute to get on the internet unless you pay a $100+ fee, and that still limits your time. Our shower was consistently lukewarm or cold. They take forever to make any repairs and we we usually got a message to call back later. ...

Right balance of sea days and port days

The Breakaway had just undergone a refurb not too long ago so everything had the new look and feel. Our cabin had nice carpeting. The bed was reasonably comfortable that we slept soundly every night. The best thing about this particular cruise was the value received for 10 days. And as my title suggests, it achieved the right balance of sea days and port days. I particularly appreciate the ...

We have only cruised on NCL once (NCL Star 2007 Mexican Riviera). Since then we've cruised Princess (Royal, 2016 Southern Caribbean) and Celebrity (2018, Western Caribbean). I don't remember a lot about the first NCL cruise except we liked the ship (easy to move around the ship probably because it was smaller, good food in the free restaurants although the wait lines were long, fairly easy to ...

This was my 4th NCL cruise and possibly my last! Last year we went on the Getaway and it was great so we thought the Breakaway would be great too, but boy was I wrong! Embarkation was a nightmare, lines for days, took close to 3 hours to get on board! Our stateroom was ready once we boarded and it was very clean, spacious and bed comfortable. The balcony was a bit small but adequate for ...

Specialty dining: considering the food we had in Manhattan during the cruise we found it to be far and above the best restaurant on the ship. We found nothing special at all about the specialty restaurants. Mostly the food was bland (Cagneys) or in some cases inedible (Le Bistro - duck) and what we did like (La Cucina) could be found in Manhattan anyway (ravioli and gnocchi were exactly the ...

The Haven Made It Heaven

This 10-day getaway was the first cruise my husband & I have ever taken, & in anticipation of the crowds on a ship the size of the Breakaway we opted to splurge a bit & book in the Haven - best vacation decision EVER. As NCL pledged, being a guest of the Haven afforded us over the top perks during our entire cruise. From our initial embarkation in New Orleans to any chosen daily port embarkations ...

We had read all the reviews possible prior to boarding on December 6th and we feared the worst. As we walked to board we asked a couple how they liked their cruise. They responded "fantastic." The embarkation process actually went quite well. There was the usual excitement while in the lines and it wasn't long before we had found a high table in O'Sheehan's, and ordered drinks and chicken ...

10 Day Western Caribbean Cruise

We chose this Norwegian cruise for the ports of call. We have been to the Caribbean a number of previous times and we liked that this cruise was leaving from and returning to New Orleans, LA. We were interested in seeing Roatan Island, Belize, and Costa Maya. These were new stops for us. The Breakaway is the largest Norwegian cruise ship that we have been on. It had its good points and some ...

The Breakaway is a fantastic ship! Embarkation was a fairly easy process, although there were thousands of people getting on board at the same time. Disembarking was fairly easy as well, although I thought that having to stand in line outside for an hour wasn't great. I thought that the groups were called too close together and too many people were trying to be scanned off at the same time. I ...

Just finished a 10 day cruise the Carribean with stops in Honduras, Belize etc. The food was great. We especially enjoyed the restaurants. All we visited were excellent. The smoke smell around the gaming area was awful. I paid the $75 for wi-fi but it was so difficult to work with. I used 9 minutes and finally just gave up. They charged me for the whole package despite my complaints of ...
