We're Carnival Cruise regulars - gold status - and just returned from a fabulous cruise to Montego Bay, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel on Sunday, after first spending a week in New Orleans. The ship is definitely showing signs of age and wear, but who cares when the crew members are amazing, helpful, and downright friendly. From Made, our cabin steward (Deck 8, forward), to the staff at Guest Services, EVERYONE, bar none, was delightful, courteous, and seemed genuinely interested in assisting their passengers. We usually plan our own excursions, but went with Carnivals top-rated ones for each post on this cruise, and I'm so glad we did. The jeep tour in Montego Bay (with crazy man Kasha driving) was informative, scenic, and better than the "Indiana Jones" ride at Disneyland!!! We saw beautiful scenery, stunning hidden waterfalls, and experienced a monsoonal downpour - and Kasha kept the jeep up on all four wheels for the duration! The kayak tour and swimming with stingrays in Grand Cayman was a blast too - stingrays really are just "sea puppies" and thrive on love and attention. And Cozumel, one of my favorite ports, was amazing as usual - started the day with a taxi ride into town for some much-needed shopping (spent two hours in Los Cincos Soles (The Five Suns)) and made it back to the ship just in time for our scheduled Champagne Elite Catamaran tour, which was THE best snorkeling excursion I've ever been on - including those experienced on the Hawaiian islands. You can't have a bad snorkeling experience in Cozumel, but the boat's crew had us feeling like family after four hours - they fed us (way too much) the most delicious and home-made food (don't even get me started on the guacamole!) and plied us with alcohol - as much as you could drink - and other tasty beverages. Just typing this has me yearning for more - time to plan my return trip to New Orleans and another cruise on the Glory ASAP! Read Less

I chose this cruise because the ship was brand new!!! It was beautiful, spacious, clean and the crew was fabulous. All food was great except for a few times. The cabin was large. The entertainment was pretty basic and I would have liked more band music for dancing, more, more, more. One entertainer was on 3 nights which was too much. She was good but more variety would have been better. Singing by an on board person was not great. They should have listened to her before they let her sing two numbers. Very amateur. The service was always top notch. Shore excursions climbing over the levies was hard for some people, rough walking. The Plantation tours were wonderful but the town shuttles were a little bit less than I had anticipated for things to see and do in each town. The towns were small so guess I couldn't expect a lot more. Again, the crew, fabulous!!! Thank you. Read Less

Decided to go to the Western Carribbean (Cozumel, Costa Maya and Belize). We left from New Orleans. The excursions were fun and a way to get a feel of the areas. The Spice Farm and Botanical Gardens in Belize was informative and interesting but I would not do it again. We had a 40 minute boat ride then and 1 hour long bus ride to get to the location. Once there, we rode in a tram pulled by a tractor for an hour, had lunch and purchased spices. We were dog tired when we returned to the ship. The Isla Passion excursion was fantastic! Beautiful area with a restaurant, gift shops, entertainment and bars. The service there was spot on. Everything is included in the trip. Just hung out in Costa Maya, shopping and eating. Beautiful area. About the ship, comfortable bed in cabin, immaculate. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, and entertainment. The Humidor room on the ship, is meant for cigar and pipe smokers but my husband couldn't enjoy for the cigarette smokers. He went 1 day and we had to double bag his shirt because of the stench. We never made in the pool due to the crowds. We booked a couples massage at the spa. Friendly and professional, but honestly I have had much better massages for a third of the price. Staff was pushy about products and other massages and treatments. The Breakaway is a beautiful ship. The staff was outstanding. It felt like a vacation and not a trip. We will be cruising with Norweigan again. (I'm hooked). Read Less

Went on the Breakaway out of New Orleans last year and it was not a great trip. Food was not great, staff not friendly. This year it was a different ship. Food was AWESOME, staff was way more friendly and the ship was a lot cleaner. But that may be from recently failing a health inspection and waiting on new inspection. Either way the ship was a lot better. The shows as always are great. The only people on the ship that were not nice were the Cruise Next staff. they were nice when at the counter but if you saw them anywhere else they acted to good to even speak. Also had a big Platinum group for the behind the scenes and one of the Cruise next staff gave us all kinds of times. Some sat for over an hour because they got the wrong time. When I asked about it they got very defensive and told me they did not give the wrong time and that they give everyone a letter with the time on it. I hate being lied to and I was not given a letter nor anyone I talked to before the event. Because of this I did NOT purchase a cruise next. I normally do but not after one of them lied right to my face. Anyway other than them the cruise was a lot of fun. Remember you will need reservations for shows, meals and excursions. Don't wait till on the ship, you may fine it too late especially for specialty dining Read Less

I adore NCL or I have in the past so I was extra excited to be leaving out of NOLA on an NCL! Double fun! Well, Maybe not so much...Im not sure if it was because of Mardi Gras or if its just cruisers out of NOLA but it was a whole different feel on this cruise. From the moment we reached the posrt to park it was frustrating. We were in line early to park because we didn't want to wait ion traffic when the parades started. The parking was a bigger mess than getting around the city. The attendants acted like they had never parked cars in an orderly fashion before it was bizarre The ship its self lacked the cleanliness throughout the common areas that I am used too but there was chatter on the boat that it was highly understaffed so I suppose that would make sense. The food at the upcharge restaurants that we went to was fabulous, the MDR's were great but the buffet was rough. Although I did make a sandwich every day and thoroughly enjoyed those. I enjoyed the shows. I am not a fan of the spa atmosphere on the Breakaway, I much prefer the nighttime feel of the Epic spa area. Read Less

I've been on over 50 cruises and I have to say that I think this has been my favorite ship so far. The ship is big enough so you don't feel crowded. We could always find a place to sit even when the event was crowded. The shows were outstanding, my favorite being "Burn The Floor". I LOVED IT!! We had a balcony cabin and our cabin was very comfortable with lots of storage space. The bathroom was a good size as well. The food in the specialty restaurants was very good. The main dining rooms were good, but not great. All buffets had many choices. We always frequent O'Sheehan's for the wings on every NCL cruise. I wish they would have the same menu in the bar area of O'Sheehan's as they do in the restaurant area instead of a very limited menu in the bar area. If there was more seating in the restaurant then the limited menu in the bar would be okay but we always had to wait for a table in the restaurant. Embarkation was a nightmare with traffic, but it was Mardi Gras in New Orleans and 2 ships were unloading passengers and reloading passengers so it was very congested. Overall, I'd do this ship again and again. Can't wait for the Getaway to come to New Orleans as we will definitely be sailing on that ship!! Read Less

This was our third time on the Breakaway, and the 12th for NCL total. We chose this one because of the port. We wanted to visit New Orleans, in hindsight maybe not the best idea with Mardi gras going on! Pros: Embarkation was pretty close to flawless. The ship is beautiful and well maintained. Harvest Caye is VERY nice, much nicer than RC Labidee port. Restaurants were all very good, speciality and free ones as well. Exceptional service in Cagneys, Teppenyaki and Taste. We saw Burn the floor and Rock of ages- Both very good Room was kept nice. Thermal suite is very nice, but they need to do a better job keeping it quiet. Vibe beach club was nice as well, Rain the bartender was on top of everything, making sure everyone was taken care of. Atrium bartenders were the best! We did the crystal cave tubing in Belize city- Awesome- highly recommend this. Debarkation was very god as well Service in the garden cafe was pretty good. Food was good, and they did a great job of keeping tables clean. it was the rude guests that were amazing to us .I actually witnessed a young girl in the crepe station spit out whatever it was she was eating into a napkin ( in the buffet line, no less) and put it next to the clean plates!! what a little piggy! This bad behavior causes all kinds of problems with keeping the lines moving. People stepping on each other, pushing, etc. Cons: BAR SERVICE I do think the drink package is getting out of hand, and causing a lot of bad behavior, by both the guests and bar staff. Bartenders in Mixx and Shakers were very rude, with very bad attitudes , and I think it can be partially attributed to the demanding, drunken guests. There was also very little in the way of waiters in the bars, and if you found one they had a indifferent attitude. No incentive to be social or hustle to get drinks. Again, with the exception of the Atrium and (very expensive) vibe beach club bar service, its a problem. NCL should reconsider this whole deal. Maybe lower the drink price and go back to the tipping for each drink. I would rather pay less for the Cruise and pay as I go, rather then witness all of the attitudes on both sides. It was at times very uncomfortable to get a drink, without feeling like a drunken person was going to trip on you. THERMAL SUITE Noisy!!!! I dont think we will be doing this again! It should be an enforced quiet space. That is how it used to be. Read Less

***Exclaimer***I’m realistic, so my opinions and review take that into account. That being said I don’t hand out excellent evaluations unless I feel it is absolutely deserved. Our cruise was to celebrate our anniversary, we traveled without our children but with another couple who were on the lido deck. We originally booked a lower level balcony cabin but were offered an upgrade to a Spa balcony room. At first my wife was a little worried being that high up and so close to the bow of the ship. We were pleasantly surprised with this choice in cabins, my wife was not affected by any motion sickness, and the convenience of the Spa and Serenity deck was a definite plus. Embarkation We purchased faster to the fun, not knowing what to expect at the port and because the couple we were traveling with had as well. In my opinion I don’t know if the value is there, other than the priority boarding, I think that’s where the value ended. Our bags did not arrive in our rooms any earlier and there is really no other FTF lines on the boat or perk worthy of the fee. The bonus we had for FTF was we were able to get on ship when they opened the doors per say, we had our fill of New Orleans the night before so getting on the ship earlier than our scheduled embarkation was nice. Cheers package I will start with the Cheers package, we pondered that for some time and ultimately purchased it. We are social drinkers so 15 alcoholic drinks were probably do-able on sea days for me, not so much my wife…but on port days we felt it would be a little more of a stretch. Here is how it actually panned out. I got my moneys worth, I met the 15-drink maximum on one occasion. It was a sea day with some pool, casino and comedy club time involved, so a long day of living it up. The rest of the days I am positive it was worth the money for me. My wife on the other hand, she had the 5 break even drinks on most days and on the days she didn’t, my drinks made up where hers missed. The drinks I had were $9 dollars on average all trip (maybe more if I actually do the math), so the total cost for both her and I including the other non-alcoholic drinks and additional waters etc. was worth it in our opinion, so much so that we plan on purchasing the Cheers package again on our next trip, even with our children going. I will say aside from the occasional bartender with a heavy hand, the drinks were pretty tame, so maintaining a “good” buzz will almost guarantee you having to have the 5 drink minimum to break even. Meals I am from Nevada, home of the buffet line so I do not expect 5-star meals to be doled out one scoop at a time, but I didn’t have anything from the buffet that made me cringe. That’s the greatest thing about a buffet, if you have something you don’t like, you can go get something else, something you love, go get more. The American dream, right? We tried a little something from just about every specialty food Guys burgers, Pig and Anchor the tacos, pasta bar Mongolian Wok…all good, nothing bad to report other than wait times because of the limited hours of operations for those areas. Nothing truly vacation ruining. Bonzi Sushi and the Seafood Shack were great as well we had lunch at both and would spend the extra money again Scarlet Dining Room Our experience was wonderful bordering excellent (see exclaimer). Our wait staff was great the head waiter Christian worked his tail off! He was very good at what he does, he took the time to get to know our table. Treated us as if we were his only table, I can say that he was excellent! I hope our paths cross again someday. The food, we had 4 of our 7 dinners in the SDR, all were great. The selections, the appetizers and deserts were all paired very well. Christian was very knowledgeable and attentive to all of out likes and dislikes and made great suggestions when we were not sure and even made a point to order both dishes if we were on the fence and doubled our order when he knew we would love something. Stake house We were cruising to celebrate out anniversary and on our last cruise we didn’t get the chance to try the Steakhouse, so why not right. Well frankly it left a lot to be desired, again not vacation ruining, but our SDR dinning experience was just better. The additional money spent was just not worth it in our opinion. The ambiance was much quieter yes, the presentation was wonderful and our waitstaff was good. BUT at time we felt like we were being squeezed for that extra $80 bucks by Carnival. I don’t think I’m a snob by any means, and the $80 was not a game changer but we have had better steakhouse experiences. Again, I want to be realistic with my review, I just can’t say that our experience was worth the added expense. Overall Experience Our over all experience was very good, there was not enough mediocre or bad to rate the experience any lower, so it was a great time and I would not hesitate to take this cruise again. I could write about all of the little things that were bad but looking back on it, not many of them were Carnivals fault, sure certain things could have been more enjoyable. But I was able to make my trip the best by enjoying my beautiful wife and good friends and just go with the flow…just relax you’re on vacation. Hope this helps :) Read Less

We decided to do a ten day cruise for my 40th birthday as we always feel 7 days is just not enough time. In addtiion, the idea of leaving from New Orleans and experiencing the Mighty Mississippi sounded great! It was just me and my boyfriend and we had a mostly amazing time. I was not a fan of the embarkation at all. There were very little (if any) signs telling us what building to go into or who was the correct porter to drop our luggage off with. In fact, I along with another couple seriously hestitated handing off our luggage to a porter next to a cart because he had zero identification as a porter besides the metal cart he loaded our stuff into. When we walked into the Norwegian building it was absolute chaos as we had to ask a staff member where we go (as there were no signs) only to find a line mashed in the middle of all the guests leaving on tour busses and cabs from the previous cruise. Once we finally were able to go through the doors to start the process (we stood in line for 45 minutes), the embarkation was pretty typical once we got through the doors so it was really the lack of signs or Norwegian staff to help that made it difficult. Once we got on the boat the first day was mostly excellent, until our suitcases arrived. I have a medium sized hard spinner luggage that weighed only 38 lbs (weighed at airport) and by the time it made it to our stateroom it was completely missing a spinner wheel on the back and was very beat up. This piece of luggages was in perfect condition when I handed it to the Porter and was only three years old. Now reality is, I have no clue who destroyed it but lets just say it was a real pain traveling home with a completely missing wheel at the end of the trip. The ship itself was awesome! I would love to travel on her again. We had a great steward and we LOVED Syd's Pour House. We could spend every night in that place when Guilty Pleasures was playing. I was not as big of a fan of the other band but the house band in there was amazing. We went to Burn the Floor, and it was not something we really liked. I love a story with a show and i just felt bored because it was just dancing and singing but I do know many on the ship loved the show. Rock of Ages was amazing, funny, and was the story I was already familiar with but production value was excellent. I think our love of this show was directly related to our age range as we grew up on this music!. Howl at the moon was enjoyable but i also think Norwegian's desire to keep it PG until 11:00 pm is slowly killing the ususal fun show, but again the crowd traveling on this 10 day trip was an older crowd than I was use to on other norwegian cruisese that may have had something to do with the overall tone of the Howl show. Food as usual was amazing. One major issue that did come up was, I had selected and paid for the Cirque dinner show the first day we were able to book the show online and scheduled my dinning package specialities as well. On the 2nd day of the trip, I received a letter from Norwegian in my stateroom stating that the previously schedule show date was no longer available and they moved our show/dinner to the next night. Well guess what, that was the date of my scheduled visit to a very popular specialty dinning. I went to Guest services who then handed me off to dinning reservations people, only to be told they could do nothing and it wasn't their fault. They didnt offer a credit or offer to call the box office. Just said oh just show up at specialty restaurant and they may be able to seat you. I was not happy and pretty much walked off. I then personally walked to the Box Office, and a wonderful man (I didnt catch his name) made a few phone calls and squeezed us in an oversold Cirque show to avoid missing the the teppanayki restaurant. He was so kind, and acted the way I had come to expect Norwegian employees to act. I believe even if he was unable to help, he made a few phone calls and really tried to make something work and I would have appreciated his efforts regardless. Not to mention he was able to squeeze us in on Valentine's Day.....I wish I had gotten his name as he was definately a vacation hero. Also, I will say is Michael who is a bartender at the pool bar, and also the most amazing ICE BAR bartender! My boyfriend and I were the only one's inside the ice bar and he made the 49 minutes we stayed in there one of the best times I had on the ship. He played some awesome music, made some super yummy drinks, took some awesome pictures or us, and just really made us not feel like we were the only people at the party. As for Excursion: prepare to be crammed into boats/vans/cars etc like a sardine. We went on an Olde Belize river tour and Altan Ha ruins. It was a great time, but the boat was so full it was difficult to enjoy. We were lucky as we got decent seats but I know others were upset because the boat was too full. Also, wee did a snorkel at barrier reef out of Harvest Caye, while the boat so full we thought it was a big mistake. One we reached the site, they have amazing guides onsite in the water that made the experience in the water so amazing. We were able to get some amazing video, and our guide even held his breath and went to bottom to record endangered species of fish he saw at bottom. It really was a great excursion and would recommend this to anyone. Overall this trip was amazing. I have loved Norwegian since my first time on one of their ships 5 years ago. I have gone on one Norwegian a year since then. Even with the issues that came up, the services, the spa, the bars, and the food are always amazing. I am bummed about my suitcase, but in the end this was a great 10 days for my birthday and I met some amazing people on our trip. I always remember that the worst day of vacation is usually better than your average day at home/work. Read Less

We have taken a few cruises on Norwegian and wanted to try the Breakaway since we had sailed the Epic last year. Sorry to say the Breakaway was just as bad on layout and design of the public areas as the Epic was. Elevator locations are one of the biggest drawbacks. Why did Norwegian decide to stop putting elevators near mid-ship. Balcony rooms have been shrunk along with storage in the room. I will say they had excellent entertainment in the main theater but other locations were so -so. The buffet food, O' Sheehan's, Taste, and Savor were all very good. If you didn't make reservations for the main dining room well in advance you could not get early seating. Some of the free shows were booked full, weeks before the sailing date so if you didn't book early you were out of luck. If they transmitted information about the tender ticketing plan, we never heard or seen it. Luckily, I found it while checking my planner on the TV. Then when you tried to set a time for the second tender port, they still had the first tender port info as the only option. So I selected Group B with a 12AM departure even though I knew we would not be tendering at midnight. Amazingly there must have been enouogh complaints that they straightened out the options before we arrived at the second tendering port. Read Less

We chose the cruise because we wanted to explore New Orleans prior to our first cruise. We had never been to New Orleans and we explored the sites and sounds of the city for 5 days prior to boarding the ship. Bourbon street lived up to all expectations, museums, city history, and the architecture was amazing in the French quarter. Cruise terminal dated but sufficient, embankment and disembarkment went smoothly. We throughly enjoyed our ship, the Breakaway. We had a cabin on deck 5 with a picture window and was big enough for us and served our requirements perfectly. We were up and gone early, came back for a shower before dinner and then out enjoying the ships activities until mid nite. Did we need a balcony ? I don’t know when we would have used it 10 minutes in the morning before breakfast with a coffee. The lower you go seems ship is a bit more stable. Bathroom was excellent, nice size shower with a curved door, not a curtain. Enough storage and shelf space to put amenities. Cabin has a big closet, enough drawer space for 2 of us and a desk and mirror for my wife to do hair and make up. Entertainment was very good. Main theatre is a bit small for size of ship but entertainment was good. We took in shows every night ranging from a broadway production Rock of Ages to a small bar rocking out to 80’s tunes. Quiet nites spent at one of piano bars on the ship. Used the casino but the smoke can become over bearing for non smokers in certain areas. If we had one issue on the ship smoke drifted out of casino and could be smelt in areas of the ship. Doors to cigar and cigarette rooms should be only accessed from outside decks. Service on the ship we thought was top notch. Service was polite and would bend over backwards to assist you. We had no complaints of dining, food was excellent from buffet to speciality restaurants. Ate and drank way to much. Way to easy and accessible. Ports were good, we did not use excursions but explored most stops on our own. we rented cabs for the day and got a better tour of areas using a taxi driver as our guide. Other days we cabbed it to a beach on the island and enjoyed the sun, sand, water and local beverages on the beach. We would most certainly entertain a cruise again! If we could get the same perks for the same dollars. A balcony room may br nice but for what you need a room with a picture window is all we needed. Gratuities seem a bit on high side but it is what it is. Read Less

So I chose this date for our Carnival Dream Cruise because my husband wanted to go to the Eastern Caribbean and we had never been to Key West Florida before. The weather beganvery cold from our port in New Orleans- we definitely had to wear our jackets for the first Port of call which was Key West. We walked for most of Key West seeing a lot of the sites, saw the southernmost point of the U.S. We got to see Hemingway's home, and also the bar that he frequented, Sloppy Joes. I had some very good conch fritters there. The weather turned a little warmer as we ended up in Freeport & then Nassau. Freeport ended up being the most favorite Port out of the entire itinerary. We visited the Lighthouse Resort at Grand Lucayan there. Food abounds on the Carnival Dream, you'll not run out of choices from the MDR, to all other choices I felt like we were eating every couple of hours! The buffet, the sea day brunch (steak & eggs) Guys hamburgers (ate about 20 of those entire trip) Guy's pig & anchor BBQ (pulled pork is best), the Bonsai Sushi, (good prices), the Italian place above the buffet(great bolognese), the pizza, the blue iguana (taco salad). The best meal we had on the ship was our anniversary night-we ate at the Chef's Art Steakhouse. The steaks were outstanding. The service there was so great, the ambience was wonderful, our waiter was great. We really enjoyed this, I wish we could have eaten there every night! There were a few things that didn't please us while on the cruise - We saw a couple of instances where Carnival employees were being a bit rude to passengers, but for the majority of employees, they were friendly & helpful. Other things were out of Carnivals control, such as actual passengers being a bit rude by not getting in line for the buffet , just walking right in front of others. Also witnessed parents letting their child "drink" from the strawberry yogurt machine! Our room's balcony was the best part of the room(wrap around after on 7th floor) but it was very dirty. The glass on the inside of the balcony was cleaned by a group of 3-4 employees on the 2nd day of our cruise, but they didn't clean the outside of the glass on the balcony which was the dirtiest part! Overall, the room 7454 was nice, but I do believe from experience the suite rooms have better cabin service from the stewards. I still give Carnival a 4 out of 5 on this cruise. The next cruise on Carnival will be Glory in April this year, so we will see how that one goes! Read Less

We usually sail on the Princess Line, but decided to give Norwegian a try. We really liked the Breakaway ship and crew. Staff was friendly, attentive, and polite. The ship was clean and modern looking. The only criticism of the ship was the casino area, which reeked of cigarette smoke, especially the last few days of the cruise. It's too bad they still allow smoking onboard. The stench extends to other nearby areas and is not limited to the casino. Our favorite place to eat, besides the buffet, was O'Sheehan's Pub. The food was great and it was a nice spot to relax and enjoy a meal. The Garden Cafe Buffet was very good as well, with plenty of variety and tasty theme nights. The only improvements needed there are those of the cruisers! Stop eating off your plate in line, be polite, and watch where you are walking - so many people are so absorbed in their food that they run you over. Be sure to use the antibacterial gel AFTER using the tongs to get your food if you don't want to be exposed to everyone else's germs. And clean up after yourselves a bit! If you have kids throwing food all over the place, clean it up. Oh, and it was our anniversary and we got a nice cake and bottle of bubbly :) Our balcony cabin was spacious and well-appointed. I did not like the hair dryer's location (in the living area, not the bathroom), but I made do. Our cabin steward was nice and attentive, but did not hover over us, which was appreciated. The bed was too hard for me (I have hip bursitis), but a quick call to housekeeping resulted in an egg crate mattress pad which helped substantially. Luckily our room was in a quiet hallway without a lot of loud guests disrupting our sleep - but take ear plugs just in case! We found the shows onboard to be very professional and enjoyed them a lot. We did, however, think the cost of playing Bingo ($39 each) was a bit pricey, as were most of the excursions if you bought them through Norwegian. All of our ports were fine (except Jamaica - scary place!), and we love Grand Cayman the most. Sadly that was the one port where we only got to spend a few hours instead of having a full day. We were surprised at how trashy and poor Roatan Honduras was, but we still had an ok day at a private beach park where we enjoyed snorkeling and lunch. There were armed guards on the beach, which is very telling of the issues they have there. Our embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly - as smoothly as can be expected with so many people coming and going. Again, the Norwegian staff was friendly and welcoming at all times. Read Less

We took a 7 day cruise out of New Orleans. We took this cruise for several reasons. The first reason is because it left from New Orleans. Since we live just outside of New Orleans, it is very convenient to just drive to get on the ship. The second reason is because it was a Royal Caribbean ship. We have sailed several times with this cruise line. We usually enjoy their ships. The third reason is because it was a New Year's Eve Cruise. Overall the cruise was enjoyable but there were some disappointments with this cruise ship. The entertainment was top notch. The music was good and the entertainers were awesome. Our cabin was very comfortable. We did not have a very attentive room steward. We also did not care for the food in the main dining room. We did not eat in any of the specialty restaurants. The ports were visited were very good except Miami. We landed in Miami on New Year's Day. Most of the tourist attractions were closed. This port was a change in our itinerary. Originally we were supposed to go to Coco Cay. We were very disappointed with the change in itinerary. Read Less

Our first Caribbean cruise went very well. The Vision of the Seas isn't a new ship but it is very well maintained. The food was superb, the service excellent, lots of entertaining. We faced a very stormy weather for one entire day and the ship swayed a lot. My wife got motion sick and crew member gave us a miraculous pill that helped us to heal faster. Two issues they can easily get fixed: 1. The cigarrete smell at the casino should be controled by installing glass slidind doors both edges. 2. Mold smell in the steam sauna. Otherwise, a great ship, a great crew and a wonderful itinerary. Ports of call at Cozumel, Costa Maya and Roatan are excellent choices. This was a family-oriented cruise. Embarkation and disembarkation were smooth and fast. The Captain is accessible, absolutely knowlegeable and participates in a lot of cruise activities and dinners. Restaurants are excellent. Great food and an unique gourmet experience. Read Less

Ship was clean, beautiful, & friendly employees. We really had a great time & would definitely do it again. Especially for the great price we paid. On & off the ship was a easy process. Only one thing maybe on disembark day have the slower older folks & handicaps get off at a different location. We got behind some that could barely handled their luggage & held up the line. Also, maybe next time we can get the beverage package as a given like many people we heard had. Even the ones who booked less than 6 months in advanced got the drink offer. Our travel guy with Norwegian wasn’t helpful in giving anything. He said there would be a gift in our cabin for my birthday from him. He sent nothing but our cabin Stewart did send a nice cupcake. So needless to say we won’t be using him again. I could have booked online myself just like he did. Plus I had tried contacting him 2 days before leaving on the cruise & no response from him as of yet. The only downside of the trip & was a biggie for us was I submitted a bid to get a balcony room & never heard a word on it. I was offered to make a bid 3 days after my initial booking. And we booked like a month & half out. A man on the ship was bragging to us to how he bid $35 to go from a studio room to a balcony. My bid was more than that & still nothing. I feel like my cruise agent guy wasnt helpful when asked him if Norwegian sends emails out about making bids. All he said was yes they do offer it. But heck he knew we wanted a balcony & maybe could have helped us out. There was not a high back chair in the cabin for comfort just a stool. The toilet system was not good at flushing every time. This is no biggie but we were on one of the decks near a big chess game & we heard a noise & looked up to see one of the balcony glasses shattered & the had to cover our heads with our hands & runs under cover. Thought it was over & walked back out to look & make sure everything was ok. But more started to fall & we had to do it again. People started coming out on their balconies trying to figure out what was going on & asking us what’s was all the noise. Finally an employee came and told us to get back & basically move along. However they did get a new glass in & you would have never know anything had happened. One last thing we didn’t get to go to one of the ports due to high swells & the tenders were unsafe. All in all we had a great time. This was our first trip on Norwegian & maybe next time things will a little more our way. Read Less

Beautiful ship! Clean, good entertainment. Smoking is sadly allowed in the casino which is open air into the lobby and adjoining noodle bar restaurant. The smoking section is right in the middle of the pool deck which again allows smoke to drift in all directions. Embarkation and debarkation was smooth and well organized. Food was good, sometimes very good. Never excellent. Staff were generally friendly but not all. The corkage fee of $15.00 per bottle of wine even to drink in your own room is a cheap cash grab. Too many lineups for shows etc. even with reservations you had to show up 30 minutes early to get a good seat. Cruise Director Armen is excellent. Assistant Cruise Director Lester is absolutely annoying. Rock of Ages, Burn the Floor, Tenors of Rock and Barricade Boys were great shows. The Atrium is over used for entertainment. It is constantly packed with Senior Citizens and you can never find a seat. Read Less

Arrived to port at 10:30 a.m. due to Saints game at 3:30 p.m., a jewelry show and other things going on in NOLA. Our check in time was at noon; however, we were able to check in early. The check in process took about 25 minutes from start to finish waiting in the area to board the ship. We began boarding the ship and were on board by 11:15. The ship is beautiful, huge and very segmented. The staff was great! Our balcony was on Deck 12 aft which worked out well, as we took the aft elevator right into the Garden Cafe each morning for our coffee. Entertainment was great; however, please know that on the Breakaway, it was best if you scheduled your dining and entertainment far in advance as once on the ship, you were not able to get much in the way of dining availability. Also, the theater shows were very booked as well so book that and comedy as early as possible. With regard to ports, we were not told that you have to also schedule a tender for Belize. So go to the kiosk or your TV ASAP to get an early tender for Belize as it takes about 45 minutes to get to land. The ship has to dock over 5 miles from land and by the time the tender boat fills up and you get to land, 45 minutes has elapsed. Read Less

We LOVED the Triumph. We were one of the last groups before it was dry docked, but the ship was in great condition! Embarking & Disembarking in New Orleans was smooth and quick, no complaints. The staff was super friendly, and the room was in good condition. We spent a lot of time on deck in the smoking section, so I can’t say much about the pool areas. Guys & Pizza Pirate were our go-to’s. We ported in Cozumel first.. we spent the day eating tacos, shopping, and going to the Humane Society of Cozumel (HIGHLY recommend to any dog and cat people- they do amazing work and the animals are so happy). We did not get off the ship in Progreso, just enjoyed the empty ship areas for the day. We weren’t impressed with the main dining food, but it may just be our taste- not a huge fan of fine dining. Overall, we had no complaints. We’ve actually scheduled our 2019 cruise for the same itinerary leaving from NOLA, would have booked it on Triumph again if we could! Read Less

My wife and I booked a great 23 day Cruise up the Mississippi River. Teri Robbins the agent I purchased the cruise from at American Queen Steamboat Company Office, was AWESOME ! Every time I called or e-mailed her in the months leading up to the cruise, Teri always returned my calls or e-mails within a few minutes. I have never had a more honest, organized, and sincere agent, that I had with Teri. The Cruise on the American Duchess was very good, as we moved up the river day after day taking the Hop On-Hop Off, American Queen Buses for tours of the cities. The Drivers Karen, Tami, & Mark were so professional, funny, and had a great personality. They were so fun to be with. Angie the Golf Cart driver who drove Handicap people from the docked Duchess, up the ramps when getting off the boat, was very nice. In side the boat, our stateroom was cleaned very nicely everyday by Cleon & Francis. The American Duchess also provided us with outstanding one day complementary laundry service, once a week. Michael the bar tender in the Grand Lobby Bar was so good, as he visited with guests, and mixed great drinks everyday. In the Main Dinning Room Jeremy the Maitre d, and servers Kenneth, Sidney, and Soufian were very nice and professional. Gerald the Butler, who did a little of everything on the boat, was very funny, and worked hard pleasing everyone. At the front desk Purser Shayna Tatz was so nice and worked a lot of hours with a Big smile on her face. Teresa Marcou the Shore Excursion Specalist was such a hard worker, making sure all of the Shore Excursions, and Hop On-Hop Off buses were working on time. The Riverlorian/Stage Manager Mike Chapman was very knowledgeable, interesting, and entertaining, as he gave his daily lectures on the history of the Mississippi River. The Entertainment on the American Duchess was OUTSTANDING ! Lead by the Cruise Director, Lead Singer, and Entertainer Dustin Cunningham, his wife Courtney Cunningham, & Jeff Hudson who were also Asst. Cruise Directors/Entertainers. Their Singing and Stage performing was outstanding. The four man American Duchess Band was so good, and was lead by Band Leader/Drummer David O'Connell, Bass Player Will Wagner, Pianist, Adam Marchand, and Sax/Reed Player Ike Spivak. There were also 9 different entertainers who came on the American Duchess to entertain us. My favorite walk on shows were the comedian and magician " Dante," and the Different Instrument playing and singers Dave Para and Cathy Barton, who were so different and entertaining. One of the major highlights of our 23 day cruise was attending a special educational lecture in the Pilot House by Aaron Sidora the American Duchess Chief Mate. Later that night we also had a private dinner with Aaron for 2 hours. Aaron was so nice, very smart, and answered all of the questions we had during our dinner. That was very special. My wife and I had a great relaxing time on this 23 day cruise, as we learned a lot of History about the Mississippi River and cities around it, and we met some great people. Read Less

We chose the Dream because we went on the Freedom two yrs ago and wanted to try something else. By far the Freedom was a lot better ship. I guess the time we went out there was a lot of children and so disrespectful and rude . They ran up and down the halls yelling and would not let an elder get by they would just stand in the way like someone owned them something. Room service was nothing like the Freedom, we only got our room freshened up one time a day on the Dream and on the Freedom it was every time we walked in or out of our room. We had to repeatedly ask for things and ice . The service in the Bar was the best they remembered our names and we met new friends there. Romela, Aundre, I Wayne, and Carlton was the best ever . Was very disappointed in Costa Maya and Belize I will recommend the Freedom over the Dream. The entertainment was not half as good as the Freedom seems like there was so much more to do on the Freedom. Will not recommend the 9th floor lol we was right under the lounge and heard every move Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was on my “bucket list,” and the safety of the United States. The boat is beautiful, but could use some maintenance, as far as paint, etc. We were in the Owner’s Suite with ample room, elevated amenities, private veranda, special balcony seating during entertainment in theater. The mattress on the double bed was not comfortable. The butler was very attentive, personable, and efficient. Dining was good but not exceptional. Breakfast and lunch options were buffet or from menu in the main dining room. The dinners were top-notch. Buffet dining was always available at another venue. The bars were tended by very good mixologists. Entertainment was good, considering the size of the boat. Lectures and other activities, such as bingo, were interesting and enjoyable. Service was probably the best part, though some dining staff had some attitude problem. A statement in its brochure said that the boat had an all American staff, and that was a bit of a stretch. The staff was very personable and warm, for the most part. The stops at Nottoway Plantation, Natchez, and Vicksburg were very nice and interesting, but the lower Mississippi doesn’t offer a lot of choices. Perhaps Baton Rogue should be considered. The boat glides smoothly along, pushed by its paddle wheel. It’s very relaxing and calming. Would we do it again? Absolutely, but with lower expectations and a mid range cabin. Read Less

We chose the Carnival Dream because it was within driving distance and priced within my budget! The process was simple and Carnival was very helpful throughout the process. I even booked and canceled two excursions and money was refunded on both with no problems. I booked a cove balcony (2937) and absolutely loved the privacy. The only complaint was the room was loud at night it sounded like tables dragging above us at night. This is why I only gave 4 stars. Service was great! Carlos our room service guy was super helpful changing batteries in my TV remote and giving us free laundry detergent when the dispenser did not work. Our evening waiter ALAN was the man! He was well read and we had very interesting conversation throughout the week. I actually miss the guy lol! The FLYING SCOTSMAN! The cruise director was amazing. So talented! You must see this guy in person to understand. Entertainment! The ENCORE productions in the evening were the highlight of my day! FLICK was fabulous! You must check it out for yourself! Everyone gave their all to you every evening and I loved it. Excursions and Ports! Montego Bay was terrible but to be fair I didn't book an excursion! I probably read to much about the travel advisory before going there lol! Grand Cayman was awesome did the stingray city and loved it! Cozumel well we shopped and shopped and shopped! My overall experience was great! I relaxed had a good time and met a lot of great people! I will book again! Read Less

We have been on quite a few cruises and I always say that a cruise is what you make of it. Most of the time we know what to expect. This cruise was very very good. Embarkation was well organized and smooth. Our balcony cabin was ready by 1:00 PM. Every member of the staff, from the room stewardess to the waiters were always smiling and helpful. We didn't realize that there were quite a few young people on spring break on the Pearl. They were well behaved and didn't disrupt us in any way. My hats off to them! We had the dining and drink packages on this cruise. You can make your specialty dining reservations one month in advance of the cruise on the NCL website. If you do, be sure to confirm they were taken and print a receipt. We made reservations online and then three weeks out, they were gone from the website. We had to settle for late dining times. Not happy with this, but it did not distract from the good time we had. We had one night in the Summer Palace where the service was not so good. Everywhere else was great. We ate at Cagney's steakhouse, Le Bistro and La Cucina. If you like lamb, have the rack of lamb at Le Bistro. Awesome! We liked the freestyle concept, but we think people should dress appropriately for dinner. We don't dress up, but we don't wear shorts and t-shirts in the dinner dining rooms. The shows were average for a cruise ship, but we don't cruise for top rated entertainment. We only did two organized excursions. The sightseeing tour and beach at Roatan and a beach break at Costa Maya. Roatan was very crowded with four cruise ships in port. If we went again, we would probably take a taxi somewhere. We walked around San Miguel in Cozumel. We have been there before. We thought Harvest Caye in Belize was like Disneyland and very expensive. We took the ferry over to Placencia to see the real Belize. We found a great beach bar and hung out there. Prices were much better and we got to meet some locals.(English is the main language). The beach break in Costa Maya (Mahahaul) Mexico was good. Nice clean beach. Lots of drinks and great fish tacos. Disembarkation was great. We carried our own bags off the ship and by 9 AM we were off the ship, in the car and on the Interstate headed home. Very happy with this cruise and we would definitely go again! Read Less
