I've been on over 30 cruises. Choose the Getaway for my anniversary, 9 day itinerary and sail out of New Orleans. Had my honeymoon on the Jewel out of New Orleans 6 years ago. A couple of things of note - the shows were some of the best I've ever experienced. The food was excellent and staff very good. The cigar lounge!! I am a cigar smoker and was looking forward to spending quiet time smoking my expensive cigars. The sheer fact that they don't keep the cigarette smokers out of the lounge destroyed a big part of what I was looking for on the cruise. Any quality cigar lounge will not allow cigarette smokers in the lounge. Several attempts to remove the offenders were a waste of time. I brought 25 cigars with me and ended up only smoking 6. I wasn't allowed to smoke my cigars in the "smoking areas" outside of the lounge! That was the first big mistake I experienced. Next, the bait and switch in the SPA on massage/facial services. I was in a SPA balcony room looking forward to having several services. My wife and I had a massage the very first day. Couples massage (charged $450 roughly) then booked more services for later in the trip. We were hit for over $1200 the next day for services which took my credit account overlimit. I had prepaid $1000 in onboard credits and $400 in SPA credits. I was pissed to I canceled the additional SPA services and my 1st day massage's went up to almost $600 (for a couples massage??) Priority boarding?? I prepaid $179.00 and when we got to the check in process not a person knew anything about it. We stood in line like everyone. We kept asking and were told they don't know anything about priority boarding/services. Then in Roatan we had plans w/ friends that live on the Island. We were due to dock at 11:00 am and our friends were there waiting. They took us into a room because we had priority for tenders. We didn't get off the ship until 1:00 pm spending the entire two hours in a separate room. They claimed they forgot us when again, they really didn't know anything about the priority program. They didn't understand how it worked and didn't even know what the designation on are cards stood for. Anyway, we missed our friends and the stop in Roatan was one of the #1 things I was looking forward too. That pretty much killed the cruise for me because none of the issues were created by me. I understand there are problems sometimes but I paid for things up front because I wanted an outstanding anniversary and I didn't want to go to guest services everyday and solve issues or problems. The shows were amazing and enjoyable. Cirque, Burn and Howl at the Moon all excellent. We probably spent $2500 in the casino - all a lot of fun. Then the final straw - we paid for the transfer to the airport and again we were supposed to have priority to catch our bus. We were told by 6 different people there was no priority and to stay in "the line" for transfer to airport. Had I done as told I would have missed my plane due to the "idiots" working disembarkation. I ended up having to grab a taxi and take care of my transportation even though I prepaid $40 plus the $179 for priority. I expect to get reimbursed for both items and have already contacted my card companies. I told my wife I will never take another Norwegian Cruise ever again even before the disembarkation fiasco. However, I did take advantage of the the future cruise program to book one last Norwegian because my mother in law is 88 and she had plans with her husband to take an Alaskan cruise but he passed before they could take it. I even set a date for July of 2020. I have to be honest that I really want my money back at this point. Had the mess getting off the ship not been so horrible I'd have sucked it up because I wanted to give my wife another anniversary present of taking her mom on an Alaskan cruise before something happens to my mother in law. I have to ask you for an opinion. If you had experienced everything we did how would you feel? I've taken over 30 cruises (Cunard, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian) and this is the first time I've ever had a bad opinion or responded with a negative review. The initial experience on the Jewel was the best cruise I've ever had, the 1st time of the Getaway was good but this one just had problems. The other thing I almost forgot was the upscale dinners included w/ my package. I went to use one of them and they told me I had already used my 4. I had only had three at that point. I went to get services and a nice gentleman said he fixed everything and even sent a bottle of wine to our room for the issue. We went the next night and they wouldn't allow me to use our 4th and that was the actual night of our anniversary. I refused to sign the statement and went right done to guest services and they couldn't figure out the problem. Finally it was something to do w/ the Cirque show (which I had prepaid for). I had also added a 5th night of dining before I sailed. I never got that and will be working to get my credit back on that as well. So despite an excellent time w/ most dining (quality), outstanding shows the overall experience by me gets a 4 out of 10. I really hate to share because overall I think Norwegian used to have a good product but something has changed. Also, forget using the ships boats as tenders. It was comical how poor the person piloting the vessels were. One gentleman took 12 attempts to get it docked in Roatan and there was no wind or seas to deal with. I am quite certain that you'll receive an unusual number of complaints from this sailing because the general opinion on the ship was a big disappointment and a feeling that it would be their last time on Norwegian. I was here for my sisters wedding. They press you to be on time and if your late they have an attitude but its okay for them to be late. Which they was late for everything. The wedding kept getting pushed back so even the bride and groom didn't know the time they was getting married. Then they set the time for 3:00 pm and the people didn't show up til 4. House keeping was no where to be found. The 1st night dude came by and dropped off his card and said for me to give him a call any time I needed something and he never answered the phone. I had to stand in the long line at customer service for them to call him just to get what I needed the whole cruise. Also the dinner staff was not friendly like I have experienced on other cruises. The staff is not very knowledgeable you can ask all of them the same question and they will give you different answers which is sad due to them being on the same boat for 6 months at a time! All their activities was closed most the time. My son is 13 and was looking forward to the teens club which only opened for 2 hours 1 day out of the 4 days we was on the ship. The basketball court didn't open til 12 am then of course it was adults. This was the worst ship I've ever been on. Then to top it off they charged me for a changed I didn't make! Read Less

I have been going through some personal problems. MY spouse and my Doctor suggested a cruise, because every one knows how fun they are and they thought it was the perfect thing. Well the first night the maître de was very rude when we asked to be put on the list for dinner. The hostess tried to be nice and told him that they still had a whole section they had not opened yet. The Maître de was very rude to her and told us it would be 30 minutes. NO problem, went tried to get a drink while we waited. No wait staff anywhere. So we went to the nearest bar and ordered drinks, it took 20 minutes. At dinner the wait staff were working very had to keep up with everything. That was impossible for them. We keep running out of water, he forgot our bread basket. NO smiles, no apologies, he was just to busy to care. Everyday was like this. One morning I just had to complain. The service was so offal and food was terrible. I was so upset I spent 2 hours crying in my room. We made it into 2 shows Jungle Dreams and the rock show. Both shows were fantastic. The food and service at the Jungle dreams show was delicious and on point. We tried to get into some of the bars, the lines were long and over crowded when we did get in. NO wait staff again. some clubs had standing room only. we didn't like that very much. so we ended up watching tv in our room a lot. I would never recommend this cruise line to anyone. The waitstaff was rude and practically not there. I fact I am thinking about suing Norwegian for a full refund. And medically setting my recovery back. Read Less

We had a wonderful experience with Norwegian in Hawaii and wanted to sail with them again. The walk off time was greater than 90 minutes. Only two people were scanning the ship card to exit the ship. The excursion to Chenchii Itza did not give us even 15 minutes to shop because the Capt was late arriving at the port. We had to WALK to the excursion van and also walk back, very poor. We were late leaving each port, New Orleans, Cozumel, Harvest Cey, Costa Maya, and also arrival back to New Orleans. The only food that was hot was breakfast. The grilled chicken was tough, the pork medallion was tough, the beef stew was very tough. The cantaloupe was very hard, unable to cut easily with a knife. The entertainment was not worth giving up my 60 minutes. We waited 210 minutes to have the circuit breaker reset in our stateroom. We had to call three times. Read Less

We go on four vacations every year (cruises, all inclusive resorts, European, etc), and our cruise on the Breakaway was the most disappointing vacation to date. I’ll start with the few good things about the experience. Cleanliness: The ship was kept very clean the entire time. They take pride in making sure that it is kept as germ free as possible. They have staff dedicated to dispensing hand sanitizer as you enter the buffet. Food: The food on the ship was some of the best that we have experienced on cruises. Housekeeping: The housekeeping staff is extremely pleasant. Our cabin steward was the friendliest crew member that we encountered. He always made sure that we had what we needed. Now for the bad. Bar Service: Getting a drink on the ship was quite the struggle. There are so many people on board who have the drink package that the bar lines are ridiculously long. During peak hours we waited 30 minutes for a drink, but the average time was maybe 10-15 minutes. By the time that we got a drink we pretty much had to get back in line for another. It was a constant waiting game. There are a few servers walking around to get drink orders by the pool but you have to flag them down or they won’t come to you. Then it still takes about 30 minutes for them to come back with your drink. Also, the drinks are not made accurately or consistently from bartender to bartender. I had mojitos made without lime. I order my pina coladas with Malibu and several times I had to get back in the bar line because it was made wrong. One bartender even argued with me that he made it with Malibu. I could distinctly taste the dark rum in the drink so even if he did, there was still something else in it. Regardless, a bartender should not be arguing with a guest. The entire first day there was no mint for mojitos. I ordered a mojito the second day and the bartender told me that there was no mint even though it was sitting right in front of him on the bar. The last day they ran out of ALL light beer. I did speak with the beverage manager who agreed that they market the unlimited beverage package too much and they just can’t keep up with the number of guests who have it. To me that’s not an excuse. I bought the package and I should be able to use it. They should have more bartenders. He did have a bottle of wine sent to our room. We appreciated the gesture but it doesn’t make up for a 7 day cruise or not getting proper bar service. Restaurant Service: The servers in the restaurants and dining rooms are friendly, but not as service oriented as I would have expected on a cruise. It seemed like every time we went to eat they would forget something. When we first boarded the ship we went to O’Sheehans and my second mimosa never came to the table. This was a trend for the next 6 days. The servers would come to get your order, bring your food, and we pretty much wouldn’t see them again for refills or any other requests. NCL Phone App: You have to reserve time slots for the different shows when you first board or they will fill up. We did that and my husband wrote a note in his phone to help us remember what we booked. Then we realized that the NCL phone app showed what we booked so we didn’t refer back to his phone note. Around the 3rd day we realized that the NCL app didn’t accurately reflect what we had originally booked. This caused us to miss a show. We went to guest services and they provided a print out of our reservations. It matched my husband’s note but not the app. So be aware, you can’t trust the app (side note: it also showed that we were on a 10 day cruise for the first 2 days even though we were on a 7 day). Event Venues: The different events don’t seem to be held in appropriate venues on the ship. There’s so much that is held in the atrium but not enough seating. You have to get to the atrium 30-45 minutes early to get a seat for game shows and such. Rules: We appreciate and understand rules being in place. However, the staff seem to enforce some but not others. For example, children are not supposed to be in Spice H20 during certain times. On multiple occasions we saw children in the area during the middle of the day. No one said anything to them. However, one night we made reservations in the Manhattan room and were stopped before we could even get to the hostess. My husband was wearing a nice polo and khaki shorts. We saw people walking in with T-shirt’s and raggedy jeans but we couldn’t eat there because he was wearing shorts (the phone app doesn’t detail this information when you make the reservation). Cruise Director: This was our first cruise where we barely saw the cruise director. He showed up to shows a few times and made some announcements, but other than that he was non existent. The assistant cruise director was the main one we saw. Parking: Don’t park at the port!!!! It took us an hour to get into and out of the parking lot. It was $140 for uncovered parking which is ridiculous. I guess it’s safe to say that we will not be cruising with NCL again. We feel robbed of a decent vacation. Read Less

The only nice thing about our cruis was our housekeeper Fandy he was great. We booked this back in April or May for our honeymoon. We ended up getting two twin beds.... there was a constant loud buzz/hissing sound outside our room we could here 24/7. The spa double charged us. Each night for our dinners the service was horrible. They never brought my wife’s wine one night, we had a hard time getting our water glasses re-filled, and the food was either wrong when they brought it, and each night we ended up having to go get pizza or something to eat. This was just a few of our problems we encountered on our honeymoon trip on the dream. We are both positive happy people so we roughed it through, but I would NOT recommend this boat due to poor service and problems. Twin beds on a honeymoon :( Read Less

Specialty dining: considering the food we had in Manhattan during the cruise we found it to be far and above the best restaurant on the ship. We found nothing special at all about the specialty restaurants. Mostly the food was bland (Cagneys) or in some cases inedible (Le Bistro - duck) and what we did like (La Cucina) could be found in Manhattan anyway (ravioli and gnocchi were exactly the same!) Ports: you have to be kidding!!!! Every single port you are stopping at the most ancient, unkempt, and in some cases downright dangerous ports I’ve ever seen. Add on the fact that you have to walk 1 1/2 miles to get to ANYTHING. loved that we didn’t get to go to Grand Cayman at all because they canceled the tenders because seas were too “rough”. Funny that the Royal Caribbean ship that pulled in behind us was able to tender with NO ISSUES. this was immediately following the stop at Costa Maya where we couldn’t get away from the entire port smelling of sewage. But the icing on the cake was Jamaica where we pulled up to Reynolds’s Pier which was essentially nothing more than a grain elevator for barges. It was filthy, had locals hovering around and above the disgusting walkway cat calling the girls and making lewd gestures for all passengers. We didn’t get off the boat because none of us felt safe doing so. Cleanliness/passenger safety: obviously there was a huge issue on our sailing with some sort of pathogen because we lost our ability to have salt, pepper, ketchup and mustard halfway through, our menus were turned into paper print-outs and washy-washy became urgent instead of a suggestion. Add to that the hallway fogging, and post-cruise hazmat suited spray-down and yes I’m sure we’re all going to show up home with some terrible malady. Not one cruise person explained what was going on. Not one. Just made things very inconvenient with zero explanation. Communication with this type of thing makes all the difference. Had the ship been aware of whatever the problem was maybe everyone would be more aware and careful and if they did come down with something immediately after be able to tell their dr what was going on. But no, better to leave everyone in the dark. Stateroom: room was nice, shower and bathroom were nice, room steward was excellent. Room was a spa mini-suite and while nice was not even close to worth the money for the very little square footage. Staff: we found the waiters/waitresses and bartenders excellent. Guest services also very good. Venues: terrible. Everything is 1000 decibels in a teeny tiny room. Why? No subtle music. Everything blaring. Completely unnecessary. Freestyle: no way. There is nothing freestyle about this cruising. You have to reserve everything and even with reservations to shows you have to show up an hour early so you can be sure to get in. We spent more time waiting in lines than we did enjoying shows so eventually we just stopped even trying. Ship: we have cruised the western Caribbean several times (at least 5) and never, EVER suffered through as much movement as we did on this ship and that includes one sailing where we came through a storm with 12 foot seas and heavy winds! This boat was constantly rocking and bouncing so if it has any stabilizers you should call the ship builder and ask for your money back. They DONT WORK AT ALL. One of our family spent his entire cruise in his stateroom because he couldn’t deal with the motion. After 12 other cruises this is the only one where I had to leave dinner twice because of motion sickness. It was awful. Selling, selling, selling: most ridiculous cruise I’ve ever been on for selling and ridiculous charges. Unlimited drink package. A joke. No bottled water? No coffee? What exactly does unlimited MEAN to you??? Every other line I’ve been on those are included. We’re at port, happy embarkation, charged for every drink (tax) - has NEVER occurred on any other cruise. Coming home, we’ll were close to shore so charging you again. Soda, sure for $4 a piece and some tax. Again, what is the drink package for??? Drinks at the bar, if it’s not on the menu don’t bother asking, can’t be done. Can only get this drink at that bar etc etc etc. everywhere you turn it’s charge for this, charge for that. You can’t take two steps without someone shoving something in your face that you need to buy. You can’t get away from it. Ever. Watch a movie, if you don’t run fast enough another sales pitch shoved down your throat. Summary: never again. Ever. We cruise every year usually more than once. My husband and I and our extended family who were all on this cruise agreed, never again. We all said the same, I’ve never hated a cruise before, until now. We couldn’t wait to get home which is the exact opposite of every other cruise we’ve been on where we are heartbroken when it’s over. Definitely know it won’t be NCL again for any of us. Read Less

After a 3 hour delay the boarding process was horrible we were hurded like cattle with little to no direction. 5 min after boarding the ship you are mustered on lockdown in a dinning hall then it’s a free for all to get to the elevators or move 12 decks back to your room. When I say the ship was overcrowded you could not move about with out being up in someone’s business. It took almost an hour to get settled in not fun at all. The schedule your dinner meal in an overcrowded restaurant and expect you to eat at odd late times. This is designed to force you to buy food. The whole time they are pushing you to buy crap it’s loke a 7 day locked down time share convention with boose total waste of money. This cruise was chosen for me. I called in to customer service and spoke with one of Carnival’s customer service to help book since this would be my very first time cruising, it was my boyfriends birthday, and both of our children left for college, so we were celebrating a little bit of freedom and relaxation. I first asked that I not be placed on the bottom deck. I wasn’t sure how the decks were designed but I knew I didn’t want to be on bottom deck due to a recent video I saw on fb about flooding. I was promised all these things as far as his birthday celebration once we on the ship. Low and behold once we arrived on the ship and got checked in we were in first floor. Cabin was hot air not working and service suck! Always had to stand in long line for at least an hour for guest services. Called for help 3 times with a problem on ship and the staff members would call guest services each time they said they were sending someone up and after 3 hours I walked down to desk myself and they act like they had no clue what I was talking about until I asked them to call the staff member that gave me his name and Department he worked in. Once he came down and confirmed he had spoke to them about my problem and who he spoke with all I was offered was a “sorry” purchased pictures and a gift card that had given me, the percentage was not taken off. For a first time cruiser I was completely dissatisfied and asked for refund or compensation and they told me I would get credit on board my next ship. Sad reaction from a company. This was my 5th cruise. My 3rd with Carnival and it was absolutely horrible. It has been 4 years since my last cruise and this experience has left me with never wanting to take my vacation on a cruise. Embarkation has significantly improved and moved very quick. We boarded the ship about 12:20 and were not able to get to our rooms until 1:30, which meant we had to pack the luggage we did not give the porters. My overall experience would be a 1 or a zero. The food was absolutely horrible. It was like getting days old Golden Coral Food or worse. I had to buy bottled water, as the water on the ship had a nasty after taste. The tea was gross and the lemonade too sweet. The decent restaurants were only opened from 12:00 to 2:30. Guys Burgers was open from 12:00 to 6:00. After eating burgers a few times it does get old. If you like the disgusting pizza it was open 24 hours. If you are hungry after 10:00 p.m. be prepared to pay for food. We did eat at the Chef's table which is extra. If you want burned crab cake that was not only burned but frozen burned this is the place to go. I have eaten at many fine steak houses, and again this was a disappointment to me. On-board activities are expensive and a money pit. My husband and I booked to have a massage which was amazing except the ladies pressure you to buy all these products, and try to tell me it would help my bags under my eyes, nose, etc. when I know I need to have a sinus surgery to alleviate allergy issues. It was like I had to tell them "what do you not understand about the word NO". Entertainment was great the first two nights, but it is basically the same throughout the entire cruise. It gets boring after watching basically the same thing. The comedy entertainment was degrading to women. I can not believe Carnival Dream has a woman comedian that can joke about women in such a degrading, pornographic manner. Half the people left during her skit. The comedy shows are only 30 minutes and you have to get their so early in order to have a seat. Nevertheless, after we attended that comedy show, my husband and I did not go back. Again, it was outright disgusting. The cleanliness of the ship was not there. Room service has been cut to once a day. We had to rip off the sheets from the bed after the 3rd night in order to get clean sheets. I know some of you might not wash your sheets, but I am the kind of person that washes mine frequently. It is especially necessary after you spend all cabin time laying around on bed. Our entire floor smelled like DODO... POO POO no lie, straight up sewer, and then walk into a balcony cabin that is no less than 78 degrees. I don't know about you, but I keep my temperature at 72, needless to say I could not sleep because it was so stinking hot. There were blue soap debris left all over the shower from previous passenger and our bed had a definite swag in the center. Food plates were never removed, if you want them out of your cabin you have to set the dishes outside the door. The ship design is not vacation friendly. The elevators do not take you to necessary areas. You have to walk all over the place to get to the place you want. There were so many people that average wait time for elevator was 7 to 10 min. Who wants to spend all their time waiting for an elevator. Montego Bay was fun. The Dolphin excursion was amazing, but we spent over an hour waiting for the excursion when we got to ship terminal. It was well worth it, but again when on vacation who wants to spend their time in a long hot line. When we got to the beach, we were harassed not less than 10 times if we wanted to buy mojo. In Georgetown we took the submarine excursion. It was over priced for the fact that you basically just go in circles around the same reef. The costs for that should be no more than $50 but of course that is not the case. In Cozumel we took the excursion to the Mayan Ruins. Absolutely loved the ruins but we were only given an hour and a half once the tour was complete. (Tour consisted of waiting for everyone to go to the bathroom, walking one mile to the ruins, and a 15 min. quick breakdown of the ruins) There is a 45 min ferry ride and another 45 min. bus ride one way. The majority of the time is spent traveling so we did not get to enjoy and explore for being rushed. Like I stated this was my 5th cruise and likely my last! I definitely will never cruise Carnival and this was my third with them. Pity to have spent my hard earned vacation money on this trip. Read Less

My husband and I went on this cruise with our children and grandchildren to celebrate our 30th anniversary. I am a seasoned cruiser and go on about 2 cruises a year with no issues. This was my first time on Carnival. We chose the triumph because the value seemed too good to pass up. During our cruise we enjoyed the pools and entertainment and ports of call. On the 4th day of our cruise my wife got food poisoning and fell very Ill. She missed the final day and shows and dinner. The next day she very sick and has remained sick for a week. She has a doctor appointment tomorrow. We complained to several crew members and no one has contacted us or attempted to resolve the fact that our anniversary trip was ruined and money wasted. First off I am a Platinum Carnival VIFP member. We cruise every Christmas and sailed on the Triumph last Christmas 2016 with much better results than this year. The nightmare started while going through customs. Each adult is aloud to bring 1 750ml bottle of wine in their carry on, 2 adults 2 bottles. We are in the process of starting a winery making Mead(honey wine). Our bottles are labeled corked with a corking machine and have cellophane bottle caps. The person even to the cellophane off and could see the cork had not been removed. All she would say is read your cruise agreement, we did I suggest she do the same! Even though we read the cruise agreement concerning bringing wine and contacted Carnival to make sure it was ok our wine was taken from us while going through security. We had 2 options, 1. they would open and pour out our wine, or we could return it to the car. Since we were dropped off at the port by family I called them to come back so I could run it out to them. When we made it to our cabin it smelled like cigarette smoke, so I opened the door to the balcony and quickly aired it out. The room 7345 had the least amount of storage on any cruise ship I'd been on. The bed was horrible and the sofa was in need of replacement. There was a small cabinet I placed some things in and while retrieving something out of it the hinge on the inside was so sharp it took a big gouge out of my finger. Luckily I had bandaids. The next door neighbors must have been an NFL defensive linemen because many times it sounded like and felt like a defensive line lined up and ran into the wall making a loud crash and shaking the entire stateroom. My wife and I are healthy eaters so lucky for us we bring most of out own food. The food in the dining room and buffet was horrid with less and less choices every year. I pack organic apples, homemade bread, natural peanut butter and canned vegetables I can eat cold. The only saving grace from the ship's horrid food is eating at restaurants I know at the ports. The ports: I have several friends in Cozumel so it is always fun visiting our friends and dining with them. In Progresso we have a friend I call when in town that picks us up and takes us places then out to eat. This time he too us to the Mayan ruin Kabah then to the Chocolate Story. Both were fantastic and very educational. We ate at a restaurant called Alberto's in Progresso. It was very good! When we returned to the ship once again a strong cigarette smoke smell filled our room. It took almost 2 hours for someone to show up. They sprayed something in it that helped, but after I showered then my wife the bathroom smelled like sewage. It was a backup on our floor that the plumbers had to address. The sink in the bathroom had a huge crack in it and the surface was peeling. Water went from cold to scalding every few seconds. The line at guest services were always long and didn't seem to move. Luckily we didn't have to stand in it, but there were a lot of complaints. At the Diamond and Platinum party there were the fewest number of these cruisers I've ever seen. Only 2 diamond and 8 or so platinum. Not a good sign if your loyal customers are staying away. The nightmare didn't end when we left the ship. We took a taxi home and the taxi driver claimed to not have any change for our fair and said his receipt and credit card machine was broken. I'm in the process of filing a complaint with the department that regulates taxis in the city of New Orleans. Read Less

I chose this cruise because my wife and I had never been on Carnival but had been on several other cruise lines and we wanted to try the Carnival Dream. I look at the ratings up above and have to laugh. This was by far the worst experience on a vacation we had ever been on and it will be the last with Carnival. First off let me say that the highlight of our trip was knowing our room would be clean while we weren't there and trust me this is where we spent the majority of our time. The ship from the start was so unorganized. When we were doing the mustard drill we were packed in a small room like sardines for 45 min while we waited for other people who decided they were too good to come down even though it was mandatory. Second I've never been on a cruise ship that didn't have someone constantly sanitizing your hands as you went to eat. This ship was so unsanitary I'm surprised there was wasn't several illnesses. My wife and like to enjoy ice cream at night only to find out that the mix was empty or their were no spoons or cones. I don't know about you but we don't like eating ice cream with our hands and since it's open 24/7 you'd think someone would be assigned to do just that. We tried to eat the buffet but ended up eating pizza or burgers every day lunch and dinner due to food not tasting good. The lines to the burgers and pizza were ridiculous so I guess they had the same experience we had. When the line to the pizza place is around the corner you'd think they would try to make more but they were always out. The one that beats all is we didn't get to go to Cozumel due to what the captain said was technical difficulties which caused the ship to go slower than normal stating the engineers were working all night to try and fix the problem only to find out that the reason we didn't stop was because of flooding in Cozumel from storms. All the captain had to do was be truthful about the situation and we would have just said that's Mother Nature. Mysteriously the next day the ship started to go at full speed. Most people we talked to were very upset that we were only given a credit of $50 per person like that is gonna fix the situation. We paid for three stops. We spent 4 days at sea twiddling our thumbs. The pools were so small you couldn't get in them because there were several people in them and overcrowded. I will say that the two stops we did make were very nice and enjoyable but the ship experience was terrible. You couldn't pay me to go on Carnival again and when asked by others I will be truthful and tell them to take another cruise line. Read Less

Man, I wish I could give Carnival a better review. This was my first vacation in 2 1/2 years and was REALLY excited. My previous cruise was with Carnival as well in 2015 and it was quite good. But this one? Yuck. First of all, the Triumph is falling apart. It was obvious from the first day that the crew spends an exorbitant amount of time jumping from fixing one disaster to fixing another disaster. They tried to hide it at times but when there are so many things going wrong, this gets to be impossible. Our shower the ENTIRE trip would go from SCALDING HOT to FREEZING COLD every 30 seconds. Showering was frustrating, to say the least. We talked to some other folks during an excursion and they ALL said the same exact thing about their showers. At least we weren't alone! The worst part of this cruise for me was the food. Carnival sells themselves as a company that can accommodate food preferences and allergies. They did a beautiful job on our last cruise, as my partner and I are both gluten and dairy free. We made them aware of our needs immediately before dining that night and they said "no problem." We saw the printed tickets that would go to the kitchen and everything was accurate. However, our first night I was served a tofu and veggies dish that had been cooked in a heavy dose of soy sauce (contains wheat). I could tell from the taste after a few bites, but wanted to make sure, so I asked the waiter to check with the kitchen and see what they had cooked my food in. Sure enough, it was soy sauce. My partner's plate then came out and it had a healthy amount of sour cream. Wow, really? She didn't eat hers, but an hour later I had a pounding headache from the soy sauce. We cut them a break as it was the first night. We assumed it would be better the next day. Wrong! The next day, they served us gluten free bread that looked strangely white. After eating half a slice and thinking better of it, we again asked someone to check with the kitchen. They came back and told us that the bread had milk in it. Ahhhhhh. We were starting to feel incredibly frustrated and suspicious but continued to eat there. The next night we were on our game a little better and they appeared to be, too. Until dessert. For dessert they served us baklava! It looked amazing and I thought, "this is too good to be true." Turns out it WAS too good to be true, as it was made with PUFF PASTRY. Which is GLUTEN AND BUTTER. We didn't eat it, luckily. Instead we were given a really disgusting fruit cocktail that said very loudly, "we don't care, so we are not going to try." The fruit was rotten and covered in corn syrup. Terrible. The next night, same thing. They did pretty well until the dessert course. I asked if they had sorbet (dairy free ice cream) he said yes. I ordered the lime flavored one. He brought me sherbet (contains milk). I was DONE. I did not go to dinner the final night, but instead made a salad in the buffet area upstairs. My advice? If you have a food allergy and it is important to you to not eat the thing(s) that you are allergic to, BOOK A DIFFERENT CRUISE. They have no idea what they are doing. Smoke in/on the ship was disgusting and a little shocking. What year is it? I would have liked to hang out in the casino but couldn't stand the smell. Overall, it was a nightmare. The ONLY saving grace was the wonderful woman named Jahsmine at the coffee bar. I loved her. Thank you for the awesome service! You made that trip bearable. Also, if you do go on this cruise, do yourself a favor and do not book an excursion in Progresso. It's a waste of money. Stay on the boat and take advantage of the pools and the lack of lines at the bars and food areas. The city is filthy, smells of human sewage and you will get chased down constantly if you try to shop. I have no idea why Carnival has made Progresso a stop on this cruise. Read Less

I chose this cruise as a first time cruise experience. My boyfriend and I went to get away and it was the perfect time for a trip due to our work and my graduation time. The cruise was horrible. I kept trying to tell myself that it was just me- me not enjoying a cruise atmosphere. But I was wrong! I am still thinking about how horrible it went. The food was definitely a let down. The first day the taco joint was actually really good, so I was excited. The dining room and buffet was terrible. After talking to many people the only edible food is from Guy's Burger and the Taco Stand. To make this more clear, I would be throwing up 15 minutes after trying food from the buffett- no i was not motion sick. When we got on the ship I could not believe how tiny the pools were. I know this sounds nuts- but you would laugh if you saw them. They were smaller than my bedroom, about the size of their hot tubs. One pool had green water appearing like a swamp. The waterslide was also swampy. Both were closed at the start of the cruise. It was disgusting. A major turn off. Also- the mini golf is old and run down, a joke. By the end of the cruise there were no balls left to even play- I was desperate to find something to do. There was a sewer smell throughout 3-5 floors fwd. It was disgusting. Do not choose the first embarkation time- Why? Because your luggage will not arrive until late at night. I was on the boat for 8 hours with no luggage. I guess that was my fault for not thinking how slow they would be. The boat is cramped and hard to get around. The comedy was not funny to me. It definitely was geared toward a certain race and I found it offensive. The show "a wonderful world" was hilarious. I mean in a bad way. You will find out if you watch it. It is so terrible it is hard to describe. Cozumel is dangerous. First, they just push for your money. We definitely got scammed by the taxi driver, but in a foreign country you are at their mercy. Our snorkeling toward kept trying to offer cocaine and marijuana. This is real! And I was cornered while a man snorted cocaine. Cozumel was terrible. Progresso was the best part. We met up with 2 other couples and actually had a good time. I enjoyed getting off the boat. The town is a little old school and we went to a part that most people were not, and stayed at the beach. They do not speak much english and the currency is all pesos so make sure you have those if you actually take this horrid cruise. I was wishing I had just flown into progresso. Lastly, I want to make one thing very clear. IF you do go with carnival and have a bad experience I must say good luck. I have called, emailed, sent mail over and over. They have terrible customer service and constantly say "we will make note" but do nothing about it. If you have an issue they do not handle it. I was on the ship the first day, promised a 80 dollar credit. The ship would not do this and i had to fight through phone calls to get that refund. At this time I am in an email and phone battle trying to resolve this. I cannot stress enough how horrible this trip was. Do not go through carnival, no matter the cheaper price. I will never cruise again after this. Apparently the triumph is old so you may have better luck on a newer ship. If you have similar concerns or questions feel free to email me at mgrenee888@gmail.com ONCE AGAIN DO NOT TAKE THIS CRUISE. Read Less

I've been on several Carnival Ships and this time we decided to go with Norwegian We EXPECTED a much better experience. We heard Norwegian is a step up in Quality.... DISAPPOINTING is the word to describe our vacation. The ship was old and had nothing to do except eat. The on-board entertainment sucked, the activities sucked, and the food was just so-so. More on the food, they have two restaurants that are included in the cost, not counting the Garden Cafe. The two restaurants have almost exactly the same menus, To get something different you have to go the unpaid restaurants, Yes you get different food but its very pricey. Rooms: The rooms were smaller than the rooms on any of the Carnival ships, our week was like living in a medium size walk in closet. We Thought we were going on a different ship, seems the ship we thought we had was not finished. Excursions & Ports Stop number 2 was Belize, turns out the port is owned and operated by Norwegian. Wow you leave the ship and all of a sudden everything triples in price. the Belize port was such a waste of time, oh by the way there are no transportation off the island, they have you until the ship leaves. Summary: Expensive compared to Carnival Lower quality than Carnival Crap food Old Ship Small Rooms Service was the only thing that equaled Carnival Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had not been to the Keys yet. We have cruise many times in the past but typically to the Caribbean. The course was altered due to weather. I understand that, but they knew prior to departure, and should have offered customers the opportunity to reschedule and still receive what they paid for...which was a trip to the keys and Bahamas. Who wants to pay for a filet and get a burger? On board accounts were screwed up. The food was terrible this time! They stopped having any variety at breakfast and they added an upcharge in the dinning room for certain food items. Debarkation was a NIGHTMARE. After calling FOUR decks for self assist, the entire ship came flooding to deck three. No one was turned away due to not being called, pushing and shoving caused people to drop their purchased liquor and created spills, and people were claiming their luggage after only four self assist decks had been called. WHY have policies and procedures if you aren't going to bother enforcing them. The most UNSAFE debarkation EVER. The ship was late to depart and late to arrive back. The lifeguards at the waterworks were lazy and didn't care if small children were getting injured. First time ever that my son didn't want to stay in the kids club. Day one was enough for him..."it is no fun this time"! I paid the staff in the dinning room to help with a surprise proposal, and they accepted the money (as packages are not offered on Carnival like they are on Royal) yet when it came time for action, the maître d was on the phone. RUINED the experience! I felt like I had stepped on board the SLUM SHIP, not the fun ship. The quality is definitely plummeting. Read Less

i chose this cruise as the timing was perfect. My wife just finished her chemo treatments for breast cancer, she had her surgery three weeks before we cruised and it was a celebration cruise for her overcoming the cancer. We both are Platinum members. We have been cruising with carnival since 1985. This was the first cruise we have ever been on where we did not feel like platinum members. We we treated as ordinary at the concierge counter. Tell me what is the benefit of being Platinum or Diamond (which we are trying to attain) if there is no respect or better treatment. We have friends who are members of Roayal Carribean and we have on many occasions turn down going on a RCI cruise because we felt commited to Carnival. The debarkation was rediculous. it took two hours for platinum members who checked luggage to get off. Welll i was certainly concerned as we had a flight to catch back to dallas texas. we made it just in time to board the plane. It gets worst. when we entered our balcony room ( the only way we cruise) it was shameful the amount of dust we saw around the A/C outlet and the trim around the room. I said nothing to the room stewart as i did not know if he was responsible. So i took a washcloth and wet it and cleaned the dust of the ceiling and the above trim around the room. The first day it rained. We when it rains you expect once the day drys out no standing water will be on your balcony. not only on my balcony but the adjoing balconies to either side of my room, I dont know how not to be disgusted. I called the service desk and asked to have it removed. for the next two days as it rained i had to asked the room stewart to deal with the water. A bit concerned with the sika virus and standing water on my balcony. Yes we felt very comfortable under these conditions, Bad air, standing water , mis treatment. Why should i continue cruising Carnival? Read Less

To make things clear I am not a fussy person and understand you get what you pay for and can easily adapt to any condition. I have been on several cruises through Carnival and have never experienced such conditions before such as we experienced on the triumph.. I took this cruise April of 2016 thinking that the ship would be clean and taken care of. The cabin had mold in the toilet and you could clearly see the dirt throughout the ship. The water pressure was was so low in the shower and the nob did not work properly as went from extremely hot to ice cold fast. The TV was non funtional. My complaints were met with extra incentatives in my room , like they couldn't be bothered addressing my concerns. The food was average and even the service was lacking. If the waiter did not know you and aware that you tipped it took forever just to get a drink. There were extra gifts in our room to mask the lack of service and cleanliness throughout. The Casino reaked of mildew and smoke smell. I tried to address my concerns to upper management and felt as though it was met with oh well so sad too bad. I will never ever again sail with Carnival as I ended up getting Salmonella poisoning on this trip and was sick for over 2 weeks because of it. Read Less

I have been on 10+ cruises on various lines but this was my first and LAST on NCL. We arrived to find pubic hair on our stateroom toilet. Lovely... I tried to be optimistic but that set the tone for the rest of the week. From there our room and steward situation only got worse. She was morose, unfriendly, and acted put out all the time. Towels, lotions, soap and toilet paper were continuously NOT restocked and we had to call down for them all the time. We called down one night for a clothes iron for my husband's shirt and it took OVER AN HOUR and 4 different calls to the service desk to get one delivered. We were consequently late for our dinner reservation. That level of service is unacceptable, and I have experienced so much better on other lines. On the 5th night I came back to our room to find that someone had STOLEN my medication. I kept them all lined up on the night table in precise order. My husband an I tore that room apart looking for the meds, but they were gone. It's not inconceivable that I would lose an item, but I am METICULOUS with my meds as they are so important for me and my health so I know that I didn't lose it and left it on the night table with the other bottles. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and contacted the desk to see if they maybe had found my meds in the laundry in a pile of sheets or towels. They said they would not contact the steward to ask until she came back on duty several hours later, and ignored my need to take the medication promptly. I had to spend an entire day missing my shore excursion that I paid $$$ for, and instead had to go to a pharmacy, call my doctor in the states and try to get a refill sent to me. The front desk said they would not return my shore excursion fee even though I had to miss it, and they were very dismissive and snide about my problem. They would also not assign a new/different steward to my room. For the rest of the trip the steward gave us nasty looks and scowls and we kept our "Do Not Disturb" sign up as much as we could. The shows, with the exception of Second City Comedy were lackluster and could have all used more rehearsal time. I was a professional dancer (ballet) for years. It was frustrating to watch theses dancers fall out of place, not in step with one another, and doing different movements. There was little consistency and no one seemed to be in synch. One man did a single turn, while the other two did triple turns, and a fourth did a double. This was not on purpose and looked sloppy. Choreography should cater to everyone in the piece. Singers also sounded out of tune. As we prepaid gratuities (I am working on getting some of that back since my steward was so horrible) the service was slow and lazy in my opinion. Very few people were happy/enthusiastic. Waiters and bartenders also frequently ignored everyone as most people (including my group) had the ultimate beverage package, so the waiters were not clamoring to get people drinks. We were often left alone at dinner for 45+ minutes waiting for the waitress to come refill our water glasses. Meat was never cooked to our specifications, they all were over done and I assume had been sitting under the lights for a while. I found the food selections and quality to be less than what I have experienced on other, more affordable lines. The food made my husband and I intensely sick multiple times a day, and almost everyone we encountered said they had the same problem. The quality of the main (complimentary) dining rooms was fairly comparable to that of the specialty restaurants that we ate at, and all were on the same level as eating at a 99, Applebees, or other major chain. Nothing gourmet, nothing cooked to order, etc. Nothing special unless you count the extreme, continual gastrointestinal distress! We were not impressed. We had a balcony room which was fine for us, still a bit cramped, but perfectly adequate as most people don't intend on spending much time in the room. The rest of the ship looks tired and could use an upgrade. Chipped paint, ripped and faded upholstery, outdated decor and furnishings. There was even a spot on the floor by the level 8 staircase where the floorboards must have been buckling because every time anyone stepped on it, it would make a loud noise and buckle under their weight! My husband is shell-shocked form this trip and says he never wants to cruise again. I still love to cruise and if I can ever convince him to get on another boat we will definitely not be going with NCL! We are in our early 30's. Read Less

This was our 3rd AQ cruise and a major disappointment! The food was awful, not even truck stop quality. the pastries and bread were store bought instead of home made. the sauces/gravies were congealed in an unappetizing glue when served. they ran out of earl grey tea. most of the waiters were surly and inattentive at best. we came for lunch one day, waiters standing around, no one offered to seat us. one waiter was at the salad bar scooping up salad fixings into a plastic bag with no gloves on. finally we seated ourselves at a table by the window and went through the buffet line. as i picked up my fork to start eating, a waiter came by, said 'this table is closed', took away my silverware and glass and left me sitting there! at the captain's receptions, the snacks offered were STALE croutons topped with very nice salmon, but the salmon couldn't make up for the stale bread. and the weirdest thing was that the waiters poured bottle after bottle of champagne, walked around with trays of champagne, but wouldn't serve it, and when the hour was over, they poured dozens of glasses of champagne into the garbage! we ordered a baked potato several nights and got that awful "been on the hot tray for hours" gluey textured insult to a properly baked potato. ordered a steak one nite, purportedly a new york strip. they were obviously out of steaks and had cut a thin slice off the brisket they were serving as pot roast that night. tough as leather and as thin as a pancake! there was a nice omelet/waffle station at breakfast but the cook/waiter hadn't changed his uniform all week. it was disgusting! NOT what one expects when you spend $700/day on a cruise! The tours were ok, but not nearly as interesting as on the st paul to st louis or the columbia river cruise. the entertainment was lively but not great. the banjo player mistakenly thought he was tremendous but he was VERY mistaken. the jug band was the only really good entertainment. more appropriate would have been a single or duo playing acoustic guitar and banjo and singing songs and ballads of the river. the riverlorian was great. his lectures were a 'don't miss'. i would not book a cruise with the AQ again. i don't know if they're fixing to go bankrupt and cutting costs or what but we left feeling insulted rather than pleased and relaxed from an enjoyable cruise. the other couples at our dinner table agreed that the cruise did not meet their expectations and they would neither go on another nor would they recommend the AQ to anyone. I was Sooooooooo excited to go on my first cruise:) And left disappointed and confused why this is all this rave about cruises. The food was so terrible, that I was on Pep-to Bismol night 2. For the breakfast buffet, they pulled ham out of a water bucket...UGH! The best food I had was an omelet, hot dog, and the Steakhouse (which the Steakhouse was incredibly SLOW even with a reservation)! Night three I felt like I had a rock in my stomach and couldn't eat anything for the next 2 days. Then I though I would try the deli, thinking maybe that would be ok...I couldn't eat it. The Deli gave a a slab of cheese that you could pick up and it wobbled with warm bread (I took one bight and about upchucked. The servers were rude, which shocked me...I was always told the service was great! I love stand-up comedy, so we went to a couple of shows. However, we walked out not even 10 minutes in because they were horrible. I didn't even get a good laugh out. Except for one, who was an amazing funny Hispanic guy. The ship only has 2 pools which are SMALL...and I mean SMALL!!! I went to have a beer and relax in the pool, a bunch of kids start splashing around (no problem), but I want to relax so I go to the other side of the boat "thinking that it must be the side with just adults"...NOPE! So, there is NO adult only pool area! So, I was in a pool for 20 minutes on they entire cruise. If you wanted adult only area, you had to go to a small upper deck with nothing but chairs. The Ports were NICE! Really enjoyed they Excursions, but every time on the way back in all I could think is "Oh god, I have to get back on that ship". There are hidden fees as well, which no one tells you from the Casino to Drinks! I spent a grand in the casino (made not a DIME)...the casino sent me COOKIES! Really, Cookies? WTH! After spending a crap ton for the cruise and getting charged a crap ton while on it...I cannot believe that was my vacation! I don't feel relaxed, I feel jipped! All my co-workers are telling me to try Royal or Norwegian before I say NO to cruises, supposedly they are suppose to be way better...I think I am to scorned though. The one night I just really wanted to get away, I did go up to the Serenity deck to sit in the Hot-tub and stair at the stars. There was a 17 year old kid in there drunk with a bucket of beers behind his heading blabbing about how this was his 12th cruise with mommy and daddy! I thought it was adults ONLY...and how in the hell does a 17 year old get a bucket of beers? So, needless to say after having to listen to annoying crap...I got out 10 minutes later! Pros: Cabin was nice (and so was our cabin attendant), and the shows (in the main room) pretty good! Read Less
