Arrived to port at 10:30 a.m. due to Saints game at 3:30 p.m., a jewelry show and other things going on in NOLA. Our check in time was at noon; however, we were able to check in early. The check in process took about 25 minutes from start to finish waiting in the area to board the ship. We began boarding the ship and were on board by 11:15. The ship is beautiful, huge and very segmented. The staff was great! Our balcony was on Deck 12 aft which worked out well, as we took the aft elevator right into the Garden Cafe each morning for our coffee. Entertainment was great; however, please know that on the Breakaway, it was best if you scheduled your dining and entertainment far in advance as once on the ship, you were not able to get much in the way of dining availability. Also, the theater shows were very booked as well so book that and comedy as early as possible. With regard to ports, we were not told that you have to also schedule a tender for Belize. So go to the kiosk or your TV ASAP to get an early tender for Belize as it takes about 45 minutes to get to land. The ship has to dock over 5 miles from land and by the time the tender boat fills up and you get to land, 45 minutes has elapsed. Read Less

My husband and I are seasoned cruisers doing so several times a year. This was our first experience in the Haven as well as on the Breakaway. We booked a Haven Courtyard Penthouse suite located on deck 15. The suite was a perfect fit for two people, a tight fit for three. Embarkation day in the port of New Orleans was very smooth and easy. We received our room keys at the Haven registration desk and were then escorted to a private waiting lounge. The lounge was a little lack luster and drab and to be honest, I would have preferred boarding with the masses than to wait for a private escort directly to the Haven lounge. But wait we did and after a short while, we were escorted into a private elevator and taken to the Haven where we were greeted with a cocktail and given an orientation by the concierge. The Haven lounge is beautiful and the outdoor courtyard was a favorite of ours. We especially enjoyed the convenience of the Haven bar and waited very little for a cocktail. All of the Haven staff were extremely accommodating and attentive. Our stateroom was located on the same deck as the thermal spa which meant a very short walk through a Haven guest entrance near the gym. We enjoyed the thermal suite every day and feel it was worth the money we spent. I loved the flavor infused water and the bath robes that were always readily available. My favorite part was the thalasso therapy pool and its wonderful massaging jets. My only gripe would be that the hot tubs weren't really very hot. More like a warm tub, at best. We ate in the Haven restaurant three out of the seven nights and each time was very good. Though the menu didn't change, there was enough variety to suit our tastes. We also ate in Cagneys, Ocean Blue, and Le Bistro. our favorite was Le Bistro for its escargot and exceptional french champagne. We ordered a bottle at $95 but received 20% off...a splurge but after all, it was our wedding anniversary. The entertainment was lively but some was quite taste specific. We really enjoyed Burn the Floor but walked out of Rock of Ages. The show was very long and quite loud. They needed to disclaim that it lasted 105 minutes as the duration interfered with our dinner reservations. I thought the story line was cheesy and, I just didn't like it. But that was about the only thing I didn't like. We really enjoyed the waterfront area and would book the Breakaway again just for that. We didn't use the main pool area all that much but found there to be a lot of activity that would appeal to all ages. We did enjoy the water slides but didn't get a chance to do the ropes course. Something for next time. Over all, we had a fabulous time. I was a little leary after some of the reviews I read recently, but believe that all trips are what we make of them. For us, the staff and crew seemed to go out of their way to make us feel welcome and appreciated. Every NCL employee, from officers to cleaning crew, greeted us with a smile and hello. Good job Breakaway! Read Less

Not really a lot to be thankful on this cruise. Over all the cruise was a 5 out 10. Way too many kids on the cruise and not enough supervision. Freestyle crusing really isn't freestyle when you have to make reservations for everything. NCL staff need to be friendlier with guest considering we are paying a lot for their services. Here are just a few things from my notes. 1. Room was dirty upon arriving. This was resolved. 2. No honors to Veterans. Just a get together. 3. Freestyle crusing but you need to make reservations ??? 4. Harvest Caye was too commercial. No added value to cruise. NCL gets you on island to charge you for everything. Free water sports would have been nice. 5. Hard to get into shows. If reservations were needed why let everyone in for the hypnotize show early. No seats available. 6. The Manhattan Room staff were not very friendly. 7. DJ John was very rude to me and others. One example was he was playing songs for all the young crowd but would not take a request for salsa night. 8. Music at other venues wasn't that great either with DJ John. 9. Too many people on ship for Thanksgiving. This is probably on me. I should have booked at another time. We were a party of 6 thinking we could have a nice Thanksgiving vacation. 10. Too many kids running around and not being supervised by parents or staff. 11. Adult area should be for ADULTS ONLY! I only heard one person speak up about that in the pool area. Kids were allowed to get in hot tub without supervisor. Kids that were like 7 and 8 years old. Hot Tubs were over filled. I can see maybe 8 to 10 tops but they had 15+. 12. The ship on the top deck by pool seemed to be overcrowded not enough space. 13. We weren't told if we could use the Vibe space. 14. CruiseNext staff were rude. I was explaining my situation to Carolina and waiting to book another cruise. I was waiting in line to get back with her but she sent me to another person. I had to explain everything again and the staff person Sammie Joe Davison looked at me with a weird face as if I was a bother to her. Not happy about that experience. 15. Cost are outrageous. You pay alot for the cruise but really don't get any added value. How about 1 free drink??? 16. You can't bring Coke products or purchase coke products. You are forced to buy Pepsi products. 17. You can bring a case of your own water. 18. Excursion prices are too high. 19. Need to clean better in the restrooms. 20. Recommend not having Costa Maya as a port. They place is a dump and excursions are way over priced. Read Less

I traveled on the 11.17.18 sailing of the NLC Breakaway and was an extremely disappointing experience. The boat felt extremely crowded and oversold. My wife and I were on our first experience with NCL and can not imagine returning based on this experience. We had a Spa Balcony room with the drink and specialty dinning packages. We were unable to prebook our specialty dinning options and once on board everyone was sold out for the duration of the sailing. When contacted Guest Services, we were informed we could "use our options at lunchtime for Margaritaville." The wait times at the bars on board the ship were often times over twenty minuets to get a simple beer due to the lack of staffing so it felt. The overall service levels in all aspects of the ship were below expectations. We did have an attentive cabin steward but was the extent of the positive hospitality we saw on the ship. On return, i contacted customer service, waited over thirty minuets on the phone, and was unable to get any actual help other than they will have to contact the ship and call me back. When I filled out the online help request the note at the end states to allow 15 business days for a response. Read Less

I felt like the dining and drink packages were a great value before the cruise ... unfortunately the food was average and the bar service at every bar on the ship was was well below average ... did not expect to see inexperienced personnel and under staffing ... I think if you are paying $ 90.00 per person per day you should be able to expect to be served in a reasonable amount of time ... 15-20 minutes waiting every time ... the talk among other guests was nothing short of complete disappointment ... perhaps they should consider hiring more experienced bartenders for every bar ... let's face it most people want to spend their time on a cruise NOT waiting in a long line .. Harvest Caye was also disappointing ... a man made village that resembles Disney ... An interesting Port Of Call it definetley was not ... Anything was perfect. The entertainment on board was awesome. From the stage and comedy shows to the deck parties and movie under the stars me and the wife couldn’t ask for anything better. Our cabin was great and thanks to our wonderful stewardess Eva always clean. All of the staff onboard were great but Eva was excellent. She had a whole deck to work (2nd deck) but still took the time to remember me and my wife’s name. Adam the cruise director was probably the life of every party. He was funny and very informative. The ride was a little rocky at time but we pack motion sickness medicine and brackets so we were fine. As soon as we got on board our bags were waiting for us by our room door. The food was good. Guys burger and the breakfast options were my favorite. The buffet was ok but nothing to brag about. Pizza pirate was good as well. Overall great trip. And again Thank you Eva Read Less

This was my husband's and my 4th Anniversary and 2nd cruise. It was amazing. The staff aboard the Dream made us feel like family. We had an interior room which was cleaned daily except the day we slept over after an awesome excursion. But then it was cleaned twice the next day. The food was delicious and the wait staff so nice. Highly recommend. The embarkation and disembarking went very smoothly. The shore excursions were amazing. There was a medical emergency on board that was handled very professionally and with great care for the privacy and safety of the family involved. A helicopter was brought in to take the patient and family to an awaiting hospital. The way this was handled makes us very confident about bringing our handicapped son on future cruises. Loved meeting people from all over the world. Thank you so much to the Fun Shops for having our room decorated. It made our Anniversary very special. Read Less

We have traveled on the Carnival Cruise line several times. This cruise has left some experiences that were not up to par. We purchased the Faster to the Fun excursion... we paid 70.00. However we were detained by 2 hours with boarding the ship due to maintenance. The workers at the Port of New Orleans left a lot to be desired.. very unorganized... we had our check in scheduled for 11:30 and were not able to board until 2:15.. arrived to our Cabin which was in great condition... cabin steward was not very attentive. Rarely saw him.. unlike previous cruises.. Carnival has changed their policy. They will only enter your cabin once a day.... We were celebrating our anniversary and husband ordered flowers.. guest services advised that I could take off ship at disembarkment however security told me I couldn’t. Had to throw away... entered Paris dining room for breakfast the day in Cozumel . service was horrible.. took 10 minutes before we were acknowledged and we ordered the Shore Day Express breakfast (you are supposed to be in and out in 25 minutes). It took 30 minutes to get food that was cold, served on wilted lettuce.. bacon was bits and pieces... waiter apologized for being slow... I called Carnival Guest Services when I got home. I was told that I should have read the conditions and exclusions to Faster to the Fun that they do not have to refund any of the few if we are delayed due to maintenance of the ship... apologized for the subpar service. Explained about the roses that we had to leave behind, I stated that they should have some verbiage about how you will not be able take off at embarkation and could not offer a reply except I am sorry. Gave us a $25 on board credit for future cruise.. Will we cruise Carnival again... Yes... In our opinion we think that the cruise staff may be in training on the Triumph... lack of speaking and understanding English seemed to be experienced by a lot of passengers... Postive points from cruise.... we had a great time, Sunday night they showed the Saints game on the screen on the lido deck, Cabin was comfortable.... you get what you pay for.. we got a great last minute deal... however it was very relaxing getaway. We LOVED the Triumph. We were one of the last groups before it was dry docked, but the ship was in great condition! Embarking & Disembarking in New Orleans was smooth and quick, no complaints. The staff was super friendly, and the room was in good condition. We spent a lot of time on deck in the smoking section, so I can’t say much about the pool areas. Guys & Pizza Pirate were our go-to’s. We ported in Cozumel first.. we spent the day eating tacos, shopping, and going to the Humane Society of Cozumel (HIGHLY recommend to any dog and cat people- they do amazing work and the animals are so happy). We did not get off the ship in Progreso, just enjoyed the empty ship areas for the day. We weren’t impressed with the main dining food, but it may just be our taste- not a huge fan of fine dining. Overall, we had no complaints. We’ve actually scheduled our 2019 cruise for the same itinerary leaving from NOLA, would have booked it on Triumph again if we could! Read Less

This cruise was such a great experience! The staff on the ship were very friendly and very helpful. Parking was a $100 flat rate right by the terminal. Inside the port we moved right along and before we knew it we were on the ship. It was a very seamless process. We found our room and was welcomed by our stewardess Goergetta who was amazing and very helpful. We dined in the Paris dinning room and Christy and two others were on there toes and did a great job from the time you sat to finsh. There is no such thing as boredom upon this cruise ship. Adam, the cruise director, was super funny, helpful and genuinely seemed to care if you were having a great time! In cozumel, we went to the chankanaab park which was absolutely stunning! Our snorkel guides, Diego and Chino were extremely helpful and thorough. They made sure that everybody was on the same page and answered any and all questions. Diego was quite funny as well. They even made us homemade guacamole! After cozumel we sailed to Progreso, which was a completely different experience. Everything seemed a little more "authentic". If you go to Progreso, you'll see what I mean. Also, be prepared to either buy something every 5 minutes or say no thank you every five minutes. I understand they are trying to boost the economy, but it seemed a little too much at times. With all that being said, I highly recommend cruising with these wonderful people! My wife and I were always greeted with a smile. My only complaint, if you can even call it that, was the elevators were a little on the slow side. Hopefully the new upgrades will address that. Thank you carnival triumph crew!!! Read Less

The ship was beautiful and well groomed. The balcony cabin was just right with enough space and storage. Noordam, our room steward, was so friendly and nice and called us by our first names. He was very personable. Our room was cleaned daily with fresh towels. The dining was excellent and the food was really good. The waiters were personable and well mannered. I was very impressed by Ramil. He was excellent. Loved the shows they were really good. The entertainers were good. The comedians in the punchliner were so funny. Loved the activities, sometimes it was hard to choose which one to do. The staff throughout the ship was courteous and kept the ship clean. I would definitely like to go back. Read Less

Boarding was a bit of hit and miss. Our reserved time was pushed back and hour and then we had to wait another hour plus in the boarding area. We were in a suite so got to go into a separate waiting area where it was impossible to hear the announcements. Staff came in and literally shouted when it was time to go. Boarding was then easy. Our room was ready and was on the 7th level which we were later told was just renovated. It was an ocean suite and very nice. Large and well decorated and overall very functional. Large flat screen TV which was great but the selection of channels was abysmal. Really limited and what was there was pretty poor. Our cabin attendant was very nice although we did not see him much. (We really did not need anything and the cabin was always promptly cleaned after we left.) There were still unfinished items in the cabin, four lights were missing with holes in wall covered with masking tape, pretty much made the dressing area unusable. Also the safe did not work. Staff was almost universally nice. Friendly and helpful, it is pretty obvious they mostly like their jobs very much. They were a high spot on the cruise. Multiple times we would find have of the elevators in a bank inoperable as the staff worked on them, very inconvenient. Also, on the first day at sea the water system shut down. If there was any announcement about it, no one heard it and staff did not have any information. Generally, even when there were announcement you could not hear them, not enough volume or speakers. It was very rough due to our skirting Hurricane Michael and there were a LOT of sick people on board. You had to watch were you stepped in hall ways and on stairs and the common bathrooms were pretty bad with the toilets inoperable due to no water - I'll leave that you your imagination. The food, was pretty bad. Poor flavor and never quite right. Only high points were the burger and burrito place where, while food was good, the staff was not the friendliest. (I would assume it is a tough job given the demands from most customers for more of this and less of that, etc.) The seafood shack was very good and we went several times even though we had to pay. Pizza okay but they never seemed to have any ready when we stopped by - poor supply management. A lot of children on the cruise and they would take up seats at bars keeping paying customers away. Only once did we hear a bartender instruct them to move once they got their soft drinks. Stops were okay, if you have aver been to Mexico they are the same. Disembarking was very smooth as we were in suite and given priority. Read Less

Alex our cruise director has such a vibrant talented personality. The ship had problems getting the anchor up and made up the time for it. The fellow guests were all so friendly. After a 3 hour delay the boarding process was horrible we were hurded like cattle with little to no direction. 5 min after boarding the ship you are mustered on lockdown in a dinning hall then it’s a free for all to get to the elevators or move 12 decks back to your room. When I say the ship was overcrowded you could not move about with out being up in someone’s business. It took almost an hour to get settled in not fun at all. The schedule your dinner meal in an overcrowded restaurant and expect you to eat at odd late times. This is designed to force you to buy food. Our cabin steward was AMAZING. He made us feel like we were his only cabin. We ate in the MDR every night and never disappointed. Guys burger joint was fantastic. I didn't care for the pizza but it didn't ruin my experience. The bar service was amazing. I highly recommend the Miami vice. The coffee shop was fantastic. I highly recommend getting the cheers program. We also purchased the social internet package and honestly didn't have a lot of issues with the internet at all. I also got a hot stone massage which was amazing. To be honest besides not liking the pizza I don't have any thing negative to share. Me and my wife took the cruise for our honeymoon and first vacation ever to ourselfs. I was surprised at the selections of food they had on the cruise. Me and my wife definately did not go hungry, if anything we gained a few pounds while on our cruise. The sun decks were perfect for many people to enjoy the sun as well as other company. I enjoyed trying my hand at many games in the casino, even thou I didn't win anything. My wife enjoyed a couple of the games in the video arcade, at least the easy ones. The pool side movies were a nice touch, even thou I only got to watch one of the many they showed. The cabin was spacious for two people to share, might've been crowed if more than two had the same room. The steward we had, Junaedi, was very nice and helpful with any request. We thoroughly enjoyed our excursion we decided at the last minute to go snorkeling and eat a Mexican lunch with tequila tastings with Claudia. I would highly recommend taking the cruise with the triumph going to Cozumel, Mexico. Just make sure to bring plenty of spending cash. Read Less

This cruise was chosen for me. I called in to customer service and spoke with one of Carnival’s customer service to help book since this would be my very first time cruising, it was my boyfriends birthday, and both of our children left for college, so we were celebrating a little bit of freedom and relaxation. I first asked that I not be placed on the bottom deck. I wasn’t sure how the decks were designed but I knew I didn’t want to be on bottom deck due to a recent video I saw on fb about flooding. I was promised all these things as far as his birthday celebration once we on the ship. Low and behold once we arrived on the ship and got checked in we were in first floor. Cabin was hot air not working and service suck! Always had to stand in long line for at least an hour for guest services. Called for help 3 times with a problem on ship and the staff members would call guest services each time they said they were sending someone up and after 3 hours I walked down to desk myself and they act like they had no clue what I was talking about until I asked them to call the staff member that gave me his name and Department he worked in. Once he came down and confirmed he had spoke to them about my problem and who he spoke with all I was offered was a “sorry” purchased pictures and a gift card that had given me, the percentage was not taken off. For a first time cruiser I was completely dissatisfied and asked for refund or compensation and they told me I would get credit on board my next ship. Sad reaction from a company. The skylift was peaceful and Dunn's waterfall is a must for Jamaica. We went snorkeling for the first time in Grand Cayman. The guides were very good and kept a close eye on our safety. Plus, this excursion allowed a lot of time for shopping. In Cozumel, we chose to do our own trip by getting in a taxi and traveling to a local beach by Chankanaab. Only $15/person including a drink and free rentals of kayak and snorkel equipment. The Dream is a wonderful ship. All the staff was eager and happy to assist with whatever request we had. One of us is gluten free and the restaurants all had options. The entertainment was great, especially the comedians. We left the kids home and got the Cloud 9 package, which we used everyday. The food in the main dining room was some of the best we every had. We tried the BBQ and buffet, but were not impressed. Guy's Burger Bar was worth going back for. There were plenty of children on the ship, but we only encountered them during meal times or when the teenagers hung out at night at the back of the ship. Also, we were lucky the weather was perfect for this time of year. We would definitely choose another Carnival Cruise. Read Less

We chose this cruise because the itinerary had places we wanted to go and sail out of a port we have never been to before (Port NOLA). Overall we had a great experience. It was my fourth Carnival cruise and my wife's first time ever cruising with any cruise line. However it was my first time staying in a balcony room and on the spa deck which I highly recommend. The amenities that are offered while staying on the spa deck are worth it and a great place to go when want to experience something more relaxing. My wife has said she will not travel with any other cruise line other than Carnival as she enjoyed it so much and our cruise director Lee Mason was fantastic and very entertaining. The entertainment was great as always with something always going on. The service was exceptional. We had anytime dining which means we sat at a different table and sometimes different sides of the dining room each night which resulted in the dining staff singing "Happy Honeymoon" to us twice during our cruise along with a personalized chocolate cake both times. We wanted to do something memorable for our 25th wedding anniversary and this cruise was just the ticket. From the excellent food and high class entertainment, this cruise had it all. Whether you wanted the fine dining of the steakhouse, the normal dining in the regular restaurants or just grabbing something on the go, we didn’t experience any bad meals. The cabin had plenty of room and was quite cozy when we did actually sleep. We had plenty of choices for excursions in the ports of call. There was something for everyone in each of the ports. The shopping opportunities in Grand Cayman & Cozumel we’re off the charts. Embarkation & debarkation both went very smoothly. I would highly recommend you purchase Faster to the Fun if it’s available when you cruise. We were able to embark well ahead of most of the cruisers which made that experience very nice. We are definitely looking forward to our next cruise! Read Less

My wife and I booked a great 23 day Cruise up the Mississippi River. Teri Robbins the agent I purchased the cruise from at American Queen Steamboat Company Office, was AWESOME ! Every time I called or e-mailed her in the months leading up to the cruise, Teri always returned my calls or e-mails within a few minutes. I have never had a more honest, organized, and sincere agent, that I had with Teri. The Cruise on the American Duchess was very good, as we moved up the river day after day taking the Hop On-Hop Off, American Queen Buses for tours of the cities. The Drivers Karen, Tami, & Mark were so professional, funny, and had a great personality. They were so fun to be with. Angie the Golf Cart driver who drove Handicap people from the docked Duchess, up the ramps when getting off the boat, was very nice. In side the boat, our stateroom was cleaned very nicely everyday by Cleon & Francis. The American Duchess also provided us with outstanding one day complementary laundry service, once a week. Michael the bar tender in the Grand Lobby Bar was so good, as he visited with guests, and mixed great drinks everyday. In the Main Dinning Room Jeremy the Maitre d, and servers Kenneth, Sidney, and Soufian were very nice and professional. Gerald the Butler, who did a little of everything on the boat, was very funny, and worked hard pleasing everyone. At the front desk Purser Shayna Tatz was so nice and worked a lot of hours with a Big smile on her face. Teresa Marcou the Shore Excursion Specalist was such a hard worker, making sure all of the Shore Excursions, and Hop On-Hop Off buses were working on time. The Riverlorian/Stage Manager Mike Chapman was very knowledgeable, interesting, and entertaining, as he gave his daily lectures on the history of the Mississippi River. The Entertainment on the American Duchess was OUTSTANDING ! Lead by the Cruise Director, Lead Singer, and Entertainer Dustin Cunningham, his wife Courtney Cunningham, & Jeff Hudson who were also Asst. Cruise Directors/Entertainers. Their Singing and Stage performing was outstanding. The four man American Duchess Band was so good, and was lead by Band Leader/Drummer David O'Connell, Bass Player Will Wagner, Pianist, Adam Marchand, and Sax/Reed Player Ike Spivak. There were also 9 different entertainers who came on the American Duchess to entertain us. My favorite walk on shows were the comedian and magician " Dante," and the Different Instrument playing and singers Dave Para and Cathy Barton, who were so different and entertaining. One of the major highlights of our 23 day cruise was attending a special educational lecture in the Pilot House by Aaron Sidora the American Duchess Chief Mate. Later that night we also had a private dinner with Aaron for 2 hours. Aaron was so nice, very smart, and answered all of the questions we had during our dinner. That was very special. My wife and I had a great relaxing time on this 23 day cruise, as we learned a lot of History about the Mississippi River and cities around it, and we met some great people. Read Less
