Cruise offered was back to back through Panama Canal and on to Alaska. Two ports were cancelled (were not told why) so assume that is why we arrived in LA at 12 midnight and could not get off ship until the following morning after 7 am - as ship was leaving at 2 pm in afternoon - there was no time to travel into the city and return in time to board ship. Been cruising for over 30 years. This was the first time on NCL and we took this cruise because of the "ports of call".
First, two ports were cancelled and one was added before sailing. many things went wrong as soon as we got underway.

We sailed from New Orleans. Spent a few days in the french quarter prior to boarding the ship.
From the beginning, the trip wasn't enjoyable. My wife chose early check in, 10am, which I suppose we misunderstood as early boarding. After checking in at the NCL desk, we had to wait until the 8th group was called - boarding began at 12pm.

Day 1 there were hints this was going to be bad. Dropping the bags less than three feet from the baggage cart and the guy moving them to the cart wanted a tip for doing it?
