Mississippi cruise: Not Exactly Perfect.

Review for a North America River Cruise on American Melody

The Missus and I decided some time ago to kick the tires on ACL, in order to compare the line with American Queen Voyages (which unfortunately is no more). We chose the American Melody for a quick round-trip on the Mississippi out of New Orleans. ACL does not pay for incoming airport transfers so we grabbed a cab at the New Orleans airport. They do, however, provide a coach for the return ...

We recently traveled with Viking from New Orleans to Memphis and overall we had a great time. The food was great and the two large dining venues and staggered excursion departure times do a good job of separating guests so you never really felt like you were traveling with nearly 400 other people. Most of the guides for our excursions were outstanding. We loved the WWII museum and think it ...

This is an unsolicited letter of commendation. We did the Lower Mississippi cruise from New Orleans to Memphis on March 15th. It was one of the best cruises we have taken. The staff couldn't have been better. They were courteous and helpful. Please extend my thanks to the following. Hanna, the Cruise Director was fantastic. She let us know where to be and when "on the dot". The piano player was ...

The ship was beautiful the food was excellent and service was great. Bartenders very personable and knowledgeable. The bad was the excursions. Getting from the hotel to the ship involved waiting at a lunch place for 3 hours and getting from the ship to the Memphis hotel took a 5 hour bus ride and a 1 hour wait on line to check into hotel. They should have handed out the keys on the bus as you came ...

For me this cruise was like watching a high school production of “Let’s sail the Missisippi” with a $13,000 ticket price

I paid for two lower level cabins. We traveled as two single women celebrating the end of a tough work year. Each was about $7,000. The ship is new and is beautiful. The living room (central event and sitting area) is very nice. The couches are really low on the ship and many elderly people couldn't get up without a lot of effort however. The bar is laid out nicely and is a friendly place to go. ...

Interest in the Lower Mississippi and in the excursions especially Memphis. Boat was only 15 months old and it was very nice; Service was overall very good, especially the wait staff. However the food was a major disappointment. There was not much variety and oftentimes it was not hot when served. Stop in Greenville, MS was a real highlight of the trip. The food and music was excellent. I ...

Cruised on the Mississippi River, started in New Orleans and ended in Memphis. The cruise itself was great, no complaints and enjoyed cruising with predominately an older, more mature crowd. Ship is not recommended for someone traveling with small children or teenagers. Food was excellent and crew was very accommodating for my Celiac food allergy. Menu in the fine dining was clearly marked for ...

Just came back from our first river cruise aboard the "American Queen" on the Lower Mississippi.. Pros: Fantastic staff and fellow cruisers. Better quality food than say Carnival All inclusive Laid back and comfortable atmosphere. All American speaking crew is a BIG plus as it limits communication issues. Great Bang for the Buck! Cons: Boat could use better maintenance ...

We started cruising with ACL last year on the American Revolution cruise out of Baltimore. We love the way you are treated with so much respect and dignity. The room, the staff, the entertainment have been phenomenal. The food is really good. ( We always gain a few pounds on each cruise) The Serenade is a beautiful ship. Love the outdoor space for relaxation. I really cannot name just a few of the ...

Always wanted to do this cruise. Waited over two years hoping Viking would iron out the kinks while they held our money.several changes to itinerary ( bused to Baton Rouge rather than sailing from New Orleans and at the end of the cruise bused from Red Wing to St. Paul). We were ok as Viking picked up the hotel on both ends. The room ( Deluxe Veranda ) was clean and new with a few problems ...
