We booked this for a family holiday. 2 in our late 50's and 2 adult children 20 and 21. We booked a suite as it worked out cheaper then 2 rooms and gave us access to a range of suite benefits. Cabin 8694 - had it as a 3 bed apartment setup. Worked well for us. Priority boarding and disembarkation _ very smooth. Access to the Concierge lounge _ small but complimentary drinks and canapes_ very nice. We found most other public areas very crowded so it was a relief to have this facility. A la carte breakfast in Chops Grille or use the buffet and eat here, no queue for a table. Bonus ! MDR was good , used 4/7 nights. We like speciality dining and build it in to our holiday cost. Chops Grille _ excellent Giovanniss _ Food good but would have liked more choice Isumu_ interesting and enjoyable Ports of call, _ good transport arrangements in place. Hamburg,Oslo, Brugees. All different and interesting.used our concierge lady for info and booking trips. Quizzes were well run but the area they use gets too crowded. Cafes were always busy - not a problem to us but if I was in a different category it would have been. Entertainment _ ice show good, The quest_ hilarious. Production shows need rethinking. We have previously cruised with Celebrity and couldn't t help compare even our children preferred Celebrity, just more room to chill. It's showing signs of wear and tear but spotlessly clean. Excellent staff in all areas.t Overall we give this a 4/5 but would definitely consider RCL again. Read Less

Because the price was right, not to expensive and the destinations. We've been with the Royal Caribbean a number of times, all though the Independance of the seas is our favourite ship we do find the prices have shot up since its been refurbished.Children seem to be thier priority. The last cruise we've been on was the Navigator of the Seas, tidy size ship,we were on deck two, room 2286 sea view, room nice and spacious, queen size bed, plenty of wardrobe space, the only problem was having a warm or hot shower, you had to run the tap between 10 to 20 min to get hot water running through.A notice in the bathroom said save the waves don't leave the tap running when cleaning you're teeth? They got a cheek. So if you are allocated this room expect to wait for a hot shower. If you want a hot shower in the morning or night time, unless you got time on you're hands, then by all means book it. The entertainment was in house most ot the time, you might be lucky and get a comedian or a good artist booked for the cruise. It wasn't my cup of tea sorry. The cabin attendant was very good he was not in your face like other cabin attendants we've had in the past, he done is job and off he'd go. The food on board was to die for,we dined in the Windjammer mostly, because the dining in the main Restraunts was either to early 5.30 or 8.30 to late for us. As we booked a early saver cruise, as a pensioner I got to watch my pennies you know what I MEAN. Read Less

Only just got here in with wheelchair in room may need to paint door after we have gone. They new we had a daughter in a wheelchair when we booked but never explained how small cabins are and still let us book. The restaurant staff were excellent so where our room service. We have been told since that royal c should not of allowed us to book this cabin with our daughter as she is wheelchair bound and if a fire our emergency had happened and we had been in cabin she would have struggled. As I have said royal caribbean staff where excellent it is just the way they took our money on booking and definitely didn't explain the cabin sizes and the disab policy regarding cabins ........... ............................ We choose this cruise because of the stops and total days. This was a great way to see other world cities and have a great time doing so. It was our 3rd cruise with Royal Caribbean, a great cruise line and very well organised. Never a dull moment. All the shows were great and the comedians were quite funny. A great variety with dancing and singing by some of the best performers on any ship. The whole crew did an awesome job from housekeeping to dining and other activities. I personally liked the artwork for sale. The variety and quality of art would make any collector happy to attend any or all auctions. The Park West personal were very knowledgeable about all works of art and artists. Adrian and his crew were more than helpful. They even had raffle giveaways which included free art work and even bottles of champagne. All of this is a bucket list must do. Read Less

We initially wanted to sail ona Celebrity Cruise as we had sailed with them on several occasions before. This time the dates did not match our schedule and so we chose Royal Caribbean instead, to give it a try. This is our first cruise on Royal Caribbean and we were not disappointed. Although some parts the ship looked dated it was fairly clean. The food in the Sapphire dining room was surpruisingly very good. The dining room staff were very attentive to our needs and regularly solicited feedback. They went out of their way to please us, all the time with a cheerfful smile. We appreciated the excellent service of our waitress Ruby capably assisted by her assistant Shivnath. Another pleasant surprise was the lunch salad buffet spread in the Sapphire dining room. Here we could dine in fairly intimate setting away from the hustle and bustle of the Windjammer Cafe. We also appreciated the fact that the ship was able to receive satellite TV programmes and screened the World Cup matches each time the matches were beng played. I only exercised in the gym twice. Each time I noticed that used towels and wet wipes were left uncollected. I felt that this could have been improved. Regarding the entertainment, the ship's orchestra was superb. We enjoyed the dancing and singing shows although not so much the comedian as one had to get used to his humour in order to appreciate it. The magic show and the skating shows were great. We were particularly appreciative of Raffy the pianist. His skills were really excellent. I felt that he should have been a soloist with the ship's orchestra. We made many nice people on board and this greatly enhanced our memorable experience. Read Less

We wanted to see Europe and the ports that Royal was traveling to. The ship looked great when we were looking to go. The weather I’ve there in the summer was supposed to be amazing. So everything lined up to go on this cruise for a family vacation. We didn’t know they we would run into so many problems with our stateroom. The formal dining was great! I just wished windjammer would change up the food chooses for the day and added so different things. It seem like we were eating the same thing over and over. Not much difference day by day. We wish the cruise had a pool table that was fun on serenade of the seas. Over all the ship needs a big upgrades. The staff was super nice and formal dining was always on top, they had so many different food to try and always was willing to explain was something was. Or even brought it out for us to try! This was our third cruise on a Royal Caribbean vessel and as usual everything ran like clockwork. Our embarkation at Southampton was effortless and took less than ten minutes from entering the embarkation hall to being on board the Navigator of the Seas. Although our cabin was not ready at the time of embarkation as we had arrived early provision was made on board to have a meal in the Windjammer (self service restaurant). The variety of food and quality was suitable for all tastes. While the quality of the food was not exceptional it was more than adequate for our tastes and we were more than happy with it. An announcement was made when the cabins were ready to be occupied and we proceeded to our inside cabin. We had purchased a "guaranteed" cabin which amounts to pot-luck but we were not disappointed with the one allocated to us. (Cabin 6135). Our baggage was delivered to our cabin in the late afternoon after having been left in the embarkation hall for Royal Caribbean to deliver to our cabin. We opted for "My Time Dining" which meant we could choose anytime we preferred within the opening hours of the main dining room. We chose to share a table and added to our enjoyment by meeting from all walks of like. As stated the quality of the food was more than reasonable without being outstanding but this is a subjective view as this is our opinion. The service in the main dining room by Oliver and Sachin was excellent and we appreciated their regular input regarding recommendations. The entertainment was average other than the ice show which was outstanding as was the band/orchestra. We did not participate much in the entertainment on board, however, a large variety as available on a daily basis. Unfortunately we visited Oslo, which is within walking distance of the port, on a Sunday, where everything was closed. Our next port of call was Copenhagen where we took a Hop-on-Hop-off Red Bus that collected us on the Pier and returned by a shuttle bus which was included in the price. Helsinki was celebrating a public holiday and to the disappointment of most there was not much to do. The highlight of our cruise by far was the visit to Saint Petersburg which is a must, although the process through passport control is cumbersome, Royal Caribbean had the process well organized and we were able to get through within 25 minutes where we were met by our tour guide. We had pre-booked a tour with Alla Tours and as we are senior citizens we were advised by Anja at Alla Tours to do the two day "Must See Tour". A tour of Saint Petersburg is a must! The old city of Tallen was very interesting and we used a shuttle bus as it is approximately a 30 minute walk from the harbour. Skagen, in Denmark, is a small fishing village which we visited by using a shuttle bus as it is approx 25 minutes walk from the pier. In summary we had a fabulous cruise, well catered for by RC, and disembarkation was a walk in the park. Would we recommend this cruise and cruise liner, hell yes. We chose this cruise because of the amazing destinations. Traveling through the Baltic, stopping in Denmark, Norway, Estonia, Finland and finishing up in St.Petersburg in Russia. The destinations did not disappoint...but the food and entertainment were abysmal. The ice show was spectacular...but if all went downhill from there. It was similar to a 70’s holiday camp type entertainment with British themes almost every night...think Butlins....not what you’d associate with international entertainment. Quizzes about British tv programmes...one night the entire main promenade was decked with Union Jack flags and the English national anthem blasted out....then came the entertainment staff similarly decked out in Union Jack clothes singing...it’s nice to be proud of your nationality....but on a Baltic cruise to St. Petersburg amid people from ALL different nationalities it was quite odd and inappropriate. We hadn’t booked a British knees-up for a holiday....or so we thought! The first day I got a hair in my food in the main dining room...they replaced the food quickly but it was very off putting. The windjammer had chips, a new type of meat pie every day, burgers, hot dogs, curry and rice and one roast meat option every day...same all cruise. Pie and chips...again, not what we thought we had booked a cruise for. Our cabin was grubby and had a little hole in the wall through to the next door cabin. We stuffed it with tissue paper. The whole ship could do with an upgrade with regards to decor. Disappointing all in all. The destinations were beautiful but what a shame about the time-deaf entertainment choices and uncreative food offerings. On a positive note, the shore excursions in St. Petersburg were brilliant...and the staff onshore on our way to the ship were great....super helpful. Would recommend the destinations...but maybe think twice about this ship. Didn’t have ONE complaint about the Brilliance of the seas last year...but the Navigator was very different...and not in a good way. Read Less

The cruise was good, as was the food and entertainment. Cruise ship staff were excellent. If I have a criticism it would be the distance the ship was docked from the the town/city we were visiting, also the length of time we were allowed to spend on shore at some ports of call was not enough. Food/Dining Cabin Entertainment we all excellent I would go again, but would necessarily go shore at all locations. Tallinn and Saint Petersburg were the highlights of the cruise and would highly recommend visiting them. I did the one and a half day St Petersburg trip. This was very good, but don't expect to see everything, at the places you will be visiting as the museum's and the crowds, are huge. This makes it difficult to get around. Also the is very little time for shopping. Except for one place they take you to, which, is quite expressive. Read Less

We had a lovely cruise vacation experience. The crew and staff on board did a great job, working very hard to make sure all your wishes and desires are accommodated. We did only shore excursions through RCI some of which were better than others, times in some of the ports felt very short and lead to feeling rushed on some of the excursions. Really heavy traffic in some of the ports of call also lead to some discomfort and resulted in delays. Cruising is becoming increasingly popular and it seems that the smaller ports of call cannot accommodate and handle the amount of ships and guests flooding their shores. These were minor issues and I believe ultimately it's what you make of every situation. If you go with an open mind and a bit of patience your vacation experience could be just as great. The variety of entertainment was also very good. Some of the shows were a bit load and some events resulted in the promenade getting flooded with too many guests. If you don't mind to stay clear of over crowded areas while activities are happening then you should be in good shape. Read Less

The overall cruise was great. The ship is amazing considering it's a floating hotel. The room was adequate but slightly dated and showing signs of wear and tear now. The staff were all amazing, the restaurant staff make all the efforts to serve you with what you need and want at all times and are very friendly and helpful. The excursions were overly expensive and the bookings teams are obviously geared to get you to book with them rather than necessarily giving the most appropriate advice. E.g. in Oslo there was an excursion to the statue park by coach which I forget the exact price, but was expensive. We chose to do a bit of research and used Google maps. We walked there which took around 45 minutes and got a team back to the harbour which cost £3.50 or 350 nok. In Bruges we were informed the local buses were infrequent and expensive. However the booked excursion cost $52 each and was only for 3 hours in the city. As soon as you got off the boat However, local coach companies were there offering coach travel, to the same car park as booked ones for €20 each which ran every 30 minutes. Do a bit of research for where you're going before you get there would be my best advice. Also the provisions for under 3s were abysmal. The room was small and offered a few toys on a soft play mats. The activities which ran at 9 am on cruise days were a joke. One day it was bubbles, this consisted of a few bubble wands, most of which were too big for the tiny cup that had the hand soap and water solution in. Needless to say the children were bored in around 30 seconds. The second was story time, which was 2 books on a table. Also, we weren't informed before we travelled , but children who aren't potty trained and would normally wear a swim nappy are not allowed in the pools. My daughter is 2 and shouldn't really be allowed in the pool, but there is no way I could take my water baby on holiday where she could swim almost every day, and say no to her. So you can fill in the gaps. Read Less

Chose this cruise due to half term holiday, and great things on board for the teenagers to participate in. Ports of call were also places we haven't been before so that was also a bonus. Overall the ship is very comfortable, however some of the shows are difficult to get to see due to timings, and the ice show was limited in numbers due to the size of the venue. we missed our cabin slot so didn't get to see it. Don't expect them to cater for any food allergies without a major discussion as despite filling out dietary requirements before boarding, it was not observed and the selection of food was more limited and sometimes difficult to obtain! We got off in oslo and hamburg, both cities have a lot to offer and we had limited to time so were able to get to a few of the attractions in each. Didn't get off in Bruges as been there before I would cruise with royal caribbean again but will be having very strong words with them about their ability to cater for dietary requirements first. We chose this cruise after sampling a PandO cruise in May. we liked that so much that we wanted to go again soon - having a small child meant that we have to stick to school holidays and this cruise was the only one available. Even though it was October we thought there would be enough to do on board to make it enjoyable. How wrong we were. There was hardly anything to do away from the elements which did not cost large amounts of money. The cabin - compared to P and O - was shabby- a stained, tatty settee, scuffed furniture, lots of dust under the bed, tatty shower room. the rooms were not sound proofed sufficiently and there were constant tannoys encouraging you to come along and spend yet more money! compared to P and O we could not believe the cost of things on board - I do not mind spending money but I object to being fleeced. The restaurants: the main dining room was poor - luke warm food with little taste. The "cafeteria" was little better - and it was nearly impossible to find a table regardless of when you turned up. finally I became seriously ill with food poisoning on the second night and I am still suffering now - despite several staff being aware of this no one followed up on how I was. The ship as clean and bright. Stateroom had a high standard of cleanliness. Food amazing with great selection whether canteen style or fine dining, can personally recommend The Chefs Table £63 each extra. Going across The Bay of Biscay was exciting but none of the party were seasick and we had the opportunity to see amazing seabirds and loads of dolphins! The shows were professional and a great variety from juggling to singing and the brilliant Ice Show. Our trip to Bilbao was absolutely fabulous the on shore staff were very helpful and there was lots to see, The Guggenheim and the Fenicular especially, Le Havre less so but the residents were very friendly. I would suggest a balcony stateroom, ours was right at the front of the ship which was exciting when watching for land day or night, and the people who needed to do their Titanic moment! Although nearer the rear of the ship and on deck 9 it was a good position when we experienced rough weather. Quality of the food was great, enjoyed the variety in the windjammer buffet restaurant, the main restaurant had good service, but we found that the food became a little boring after eating there for a few nights. Shows and entertainment were excellent, mainly appealing to the British sense of humour which suited us fine! Look out for the free activity sessions... flow rider, ice-skating, climbing wall as private sessions are expensive. The enrichment lectures were brilliant, really enjoyed the forensic CSI talk. Service excellent, but remember that you do not need to pay gratuities in advance; get the automatic gratuity charge removed, and reward the good service at the end of the cruise... like it should be! You can also survive the cruise without a drinks package (although individual alcoholic drinks are very expensive) we found tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milk, squash and water freely available from the windjammer restaurant and café promenade, the main restaurant is also happy to provide iced water. The last time we had Clo as a cruise director she was disappointing but she was bang on form on this cruise. Main dining was good service but main dining food was not as good as it used to be and significantly lower in standard than NCL who we used for the first time this year. Service has improved since the same time last year and a good itinerary made for a good holiday. Excursions were varied but in my opinion very overpriced and 50% cheaper to organise yourself in some cases. Speciality restaurant prices have gone up significantly over the last few years and generally, menus have reduced in variety and not changed much in the last 8 years. Hypnotist show was brilliant, and whilst it may seem like a moanathon, still a good holiday and we will use again if it's a good deal Read Less

The cruise was excellent. We traveled as a family with several under the age of three (all in a family stateroom). It was a nice time to travel in Europe, and the ship provided excellent service. We were especially impressed with Royal Tots for our young ones, and the professionalism (and assistance) that the crew provided throughout our voyage with kids. They were always assisting with finding a table for breakfast or lunch, meeting our food allergy needs, or just helping us navigate the ship. We did have some issues with the shore excursions and how family friendly they were, especially since we had a small team of toddlers. The staff was very helpful though, and after our initial less-then-expected experience, made sure that the appropriate accommodations were made for our future excursions. Cruising in the fall made the temperatures on the lower end (50's and 60's), but it was enjoyable with the less busy port stops. We also were lucky to cruise the week before school holidays in most ports, which provided a lot of additional time for our younger children to experience all the ship had to offer. Read Less

We've travelled with Royal Caribbean on three occasions and on each occasion, we've had varied experiences: the most recent, onboard the Navigator of the Seas was the least enjoyable. Staff were very friendly and courteous as usual; the ship was spotless; the food was fabulous. We felt safe and welcomed. What was missing was the details we were used to when compared to the smaller ships (the Jewel and Brilliance). Room service was chargeable for a start; there was no place to help yourself to water, juice and tea around the ship; it was very busy during breakfast and dinner, despite changing dining times - we had to return later for tables on a number of occasions. There were only two occasions to skate on the Ice Rink (this was a selling point for our two children) and on both occasions, it was fully booked within minutes. There was no opportunity to book places, simply turn up and be greeted with a number of angry mothers. Similarly, there were two Ice Shows, both full within minutes. Needless to say, we didn't/our children didn't use it, and neither did hundreds of other children - huge disappointment. We paid £130 approx. for a day trip whilst in Gijon, we spent 2-3 hours on board a coach and then 20 minutes 'free time' (visiting the queue for a toilet) before heading back on board. Dreadful. The price of the merchandise onboard was extortionate: photographs were £100 for 6 photos! There were a number of quizzes etc on board (which were fun) but the prizes were laughable: a plastic wristband for example. Would it not hurt to offer a drink or something??? We actually looked at booking another cruise whilst on board (I promise, we had fabulous experiences in the past, and we're looking to book a different, smaller ship!) and the lady 'helping' us with pricing was terrifying: I think we found the only crew member who wasn't friendly. Her sale's pitch consisted of, 'Which do you want?', 'You must make a choice'. That was about all she said to us... we didn't book. Finally, EVERY time we needed to take a shower, we had to call maintenance to help us find some hot water. EVERY time. Maintenance were lovely, friendly and helpful... but the problem arose every day. Read Less

The standard of food in the main dining was as good as P&O in Mytime dining and the waiters were very good. Now the negatives. Wheras P&O provide free courtesy buses RCI do not. To get a bus at each of our ports of call the total cost was €26. P&O only charge Saver fare customers. The cost of drinks is very high - a glass of wine $13!! Beer $8.25. P&O charge $ equivalent prices of $5 for wine and beer. The Windjammer buffet was of a good standard but the layout and flow is not as good as the buffets on Arcadia, Azura, Ventura and Oceana. Why is Navigator using clean salt water in the swimming pools ? This is not nice. Our family swim every day normally but not in salt water. Lots of other ships use fresh water "realy good" This was a big let down for us. Food was good in the main and buffet restaurant but they kept trying to get you to pay the extra on the special dining areas. I did not want to be asked every night about these "offers" we want a sit down meal only and not feel we need to say yes all the time. It was no "go away please". The arcade had more than 5 games not working and other machines had issues. So money was wasted. Cabin staff as usual was very good. But we found the room service poor by not bring what you have asked for. Like 3 cereal and only get 2 bowels, 6 toast with butter and we get no butter. Read Less

Could only agree with jsiddique. A great ship and cruise badly let down by the standard of food in the main dining room. The worst Caesar Salad imaginable - Schnapper cooked until it was tough and virtually inedible - main course ravioli the size of which I would normally receive as an entree - shallow dish entrees which provided insufficient food to whet the appetite. However, breakfast in the main dining room was fine and the Windjammer buffet restaurant provided a reliable alternative for both breakfast and lunch but it could not provide the ambience that we would have liked for dinner, in particular on the evening designated for formal dress. However, the assistance and attention to detail offered by staff was, without exception, exceptionally good as was the cabin accommodation ànd the elevator service which, although under extreme pressure, coped well with the demand. It was a pity that we were let down by the food. Read Less
