The ship is great for you if you like to sit around most the day doing nothing but reading books or listening to poor songs on the radio. The ship has scarce entertainment, mostly starting late night (10:30,11:30) and to be honest it isn’t worth staying up for. You get corny comedians quoting jokes from every generic comedy show, tribute shows that are absolute cringeworthy, overall the entertainment is very poor and it is not a lot to be missed if you choose to not go like I have the last few days. Out of the 7 days I sailed, 3 of those the swimming pools were out of order due to maintenance and when they were back up and running they were absolutely stone cold, nobody was going in them due to the temperature of the water. The food in the “main dining room” is the same stuff you’d get in the self serve buffet, all that is different is the fancy presentation, the unacceptable wait times and the main difference, the food is cold when you have it in the main dining room. As for the “shopping mall” you get 3 shops, selling overpriced perfumes, watches and other overpriced gimmicks such as hoodies and caps (utterly stupid merchandise) there are no shops where you can buy refreshments or snacks, no off duty shops to purchase anything. It is abismal. The atmosphere feels like that of what I imagine the titanic to be like during the descent into the ocean, it feels as if we are all sailing to our impending doom, everyone is miserable, it is honestly the worst experience I have had in a long time. The ship is unsafe, my partner got trapped in a “sensored” door which shut on here abruptly as she was walking through (this is being taken further one off the ship) which led to sitting in the medical room for a couple of hours. I will never be returning to this cash grab of a ship, I feel like the company is more concerned about extracting all the pennies they can out of you whilst on board instead of actually putting anything together to entertain you whilst you are with them. Considering you pay them all the money, we then had to fork out €70 for a shuttle bus, every other cruise liner organised these things for you. Royal Caribbean are a joke and they do not deserve the money they ask for, go with other cruise liners you will get a lot more value for your money and feel appreciated instead of feeling like a walking piggy bank that the company will try to shake out every last penny from you. Chose this cruise for its Itinerary. Embarkation was stress free and we were on the ship within half an hour of arriving at Southampton. Our cabin, on deck 12, was immaculate and impeccably looked after during our stay. We had seen negative reviews of Navigator but had no complaints - the food in the Sapphire Dining Room was excellent with extremely good choice of dishes and the waiters were friendly, kind and efficient. The entertainment and activities were varied, there was something for everyone and standard of the shows excellent. We loved the Morning show on the TV with Cuddy and Daniel - hilarious. All the crew worked incredibly hard in all areas including the unsung hero’s behind the scenes. The only ‘fault’ we had was with a shore excursion advertised as a ‘Panoramic tour of Agadir’ and turned out to be a view over Agadir of the sea, a visit to a Mosque which was closed and rest of the time was at a Souk! Not value for the money 59$ each. We found Navigator of the Seas to be a very stable ship and was maintained very well - and would certainly travel with Royal Caribbean again. Read Less

We picked this cruise for the itinerary but as we’d cruised with RCI once before felt confident in our choice of cruise company too. We soon found that service & quality have gone downhill. Let’s start with the positives- Happy bar staff (most of them!) Wonderful cabin steward Pretty good shows & headline acts Good choice of food in buffet Negatives- Firstly “My time dinning” was never at my time, never enough tables/seating available even if we wanted to book night before & were always happy to share. So basically it was always their time dinning not our!! Very poor service in MDR, slow, Luke warm food at best, lack of speed when clearing for next course, never a waiter around to take drinks order, no such thing as a wine waiter anymore, vegetables to accompany the main meal non existent (& when asked for extra 9 times out of 10 they never arrived), never enough pool bar waiters around, poor value for money with trips, expensive drinks, & lastly rip off salon prices! Need to seriously up the standards as I think they’ll lose a lot of regular cruisers as nearly everyone we spoke to were extremely disappointed with RCI. Read Less

Sailing from Southampton ... Chose Navigator as we were becoming disappointed with Celebrity and decided to give RC another try. So glad we ignored negative reports. Far from the tired ship with poor food we were told about. Spotless and shiny...If you look hard , yes you can see signs of wear and tear, but oh how the wonderful, happy and helpful crew made up for it. Meals have plenty of choice , especially if you avoid the nightmare windjammer that was crazy..simply go down to restaurants that offer self serve or waited to a high standard. Lovely table companions, super waiters. Our stateroom attendant was the happiest man we ever met..and that sums up the staff. Happy in their work, unlike some other ships ..made so much difference..We didn't feel guilty for being on a cruise while they worked. For the first time no one asked us to give them a perfect review of they would be in trouble. Royal Caribbean...you got it so right with this ship...We hope your others are the same and we will be back again! This was cruise no. 18...and we are real picky cruisers...this one was one of only 2 we felt we're 100% great value cruises. Good job:-) Read Less

husband and i got there early after staying in a hotel over night so had to be out by 10am so drove to ab parking great start took cases off and walked 1 minute to ship for our second cruise with rc ,embarking early as 10.40 am very smooth early signs ship looks very tired but had a lovely time cabin was 1888 the last cabin on the ship on the 12th floor very roomy balcony cabin everywhere clean lovely sheets very crisp ate in main dining room 10 out of 14 nights had my time dining beautiful food but slow at serving as they have a lot of tables to do but well worth it, ate breakfast some mornings on deck 3 in mdr as its help yourself which is fine, windjammer is lovely help yourselves lovely breakfast just wish they had trays so you could carry a few items at once, but finding a seat is pot luck its all about timing as to what time you go have to work out but views are lovely in there and presentation of food is great , shows are not to bad but not go wow factor, ice show is lovely well worth a look ,bingo some afternoons by pool and in star lounge of an evening ,plenty childrens karioke too much , went to meet and mingle on second day won shopping bag and baseball cap on raffle only about 30 came shame really as over 100 signed up, activities was good played crazy golf couple of times watched flow rider which was very good .casino was good very friendly, met plenty of friends on board mainly in smoking area on deck 11 also deck 4 otherwise you dont really meet the same people twice if you dont smoke ,we used adult pool and adult spar pools never over crowded pool very cool sea water some times a bit green but attendent said it was fine but ok daytime entertainment was hit and miss but theres a lot of everything for everyone read cruise planner that get delivered to your room every night tick off what suits you otherwise you miss things , bars are good quick serving you ,cabin steward yan was lovely cleaning all the time replacing tea and coffee all the time making towel animals every other night, staff are all chatty can not do enough for you nothing is too much trouble for any of them went on a few trips with rc and done our own thing on other stops ,great to sit on balcony with a drink and just look out at sea now for moans our room on deck 12 was lovely overall but during the night the cleaners are scraping sun loungers and chairs up on deck 13 waking us up so i would not go back to deck 12 again but would use rc again Read Less

It's the 2nd time we have been on the Navigator of the Seas. It is looking a bit tired and in need of a refit now (especially some of the soft furnishings) but it's still a great looking ship. We picked the Navigator as it's very convenient to sail out of Southampton - drive down, park in car park where your luggage is picked up and straight onto the ship - swift embarkation. Disembarkation we always hate - trying to find luggage in the large warehouse (there is always one piece of our luggage which ends up in the wrong 'pile' despite having the right number tag) and trying to find a trolley. Our cabin was a little tired looking but kept wonderfully clean by our stateroom attendant. Wouldn't cruise without a balcony - love having that extra bit of space and great to sit and soak up the sun's rays. We ate in the MDR most nights and had great service from our waiter and assistant waiter. Food was generally good - pork and beef dishes particularly good, but veal , chicken and fish occasionally a little dry. Desserts were slightly disappointing in terms of choice - often a better choice of desserts in Windjammer ( and a great selection of cheeses up there as well!). Enjoyed great food and service in Giovannis (lovely lamb chops) and also Sabor (Tapas on this sailing). Lunch on seas days in Sapphire Dining Room is a must - great salads made up personally for you. Self service breakfast in Sapphire also good (and less 'manic' than the Windjammer) but a little more variety from day to day would be nice. Although it was the middle of August and the ship was very full, we did manage to find quieter places to be when we wanted them (the Helipad is always a lovely place to sit) and the Schooner Bar in early evenings was a quiet place to have a drink (except for when they had quizzes in there - just not our sort of thing and the staff doing them not always great).Service in the bars was good and we got to know the staff in the bars we frequented regularly. We did a mixture of our own things and RC excursions in the ports. Disappointed that 2 excursions we had booked before we went were cancelled short notice (less than 48 hours before) due to 'lack of participation', which meant spending extra time trying to decide what else we were going to do - never had an excursion cancelled on previous 4 cruises. Generally getting on and off at ports was fine except it is always really slow getting back on at Gibraltar and getting off at Vigo was very slow as they had technical difficulties. We did have one or 2 little 'issues' over the 2 weeks, but always found a member of staff who was keen to sort for us ( sometimes it took a while to find just the 'right' person to speak to.... Overall, we still enjoy sailing with RC and love visiting the Med ports. Will definitely sail with RC again Read Less

It was a family cruise foe Eleven of us. The Ship was lovely and the staff were real friendly. Myself my partner and 14 year old daughter in cabin, was quite small not a lot of space when they put the sofa bed down. My brother had an inside cabin with his wife and 2 daughters of 14 and 16, not enough space to swing a cat, really not suitable for a family room as they call it,o.k if your kids are 3 and 4 maybe. Be prepared to pay for your coach or bus transfer into the towns.a family of 4 can expect another 100 euros plus on top. Make sure you have a drinks package because the drinks are an extortionate price. if you have a room on deck ten be prepared for early morning call of people scrapping deck chairs and trolleys above you, also be prepared for the gangs of kids that think its fun to run up and down the corridors shouting and screaming knocking and kicking and ringing bells late at night.oh and on the last night they find it amusing to rip all your luggage labels off your bags, and lust basically run riot.please do not expect security to do anything they are totally inept at dealing with them. They are more interested in stopping anyone getting on the ship carrying any water or wine or spirits.my elderly parents were left traumatised and had their cruise totally ruined by the constant problems with kids. wouldn;t travel withrcc again stick with P.O. a class above. This cruise was chosen for the price and the expected sun. As we had visited each port before except 1 it was an excuse to not do much. Embarkation and disembarkation in Southampton was very easy and smooth. Getting on our bags were taken from our car and severed to us quickly and getting off our bags were collected the night before, w left at our allocated time and bags were easy to find and exit quickly. The ship is clean, tidy and lots of things to do. The Helipad is a fab place to watch leaving and e tearing ports, the main restaurant is a must for breakfast, lunch and dinner on sea days as you don't have to fight for a table which can happen in the buffet restauran. The headliner entertainment was fantastic, but the onboard singer and dancers just had something missing that we couldn't put our fingers on. If you fancy doing the flow rider do it the day you get on as there won't be any cues. Booking tours through the ship came out expensive, however you were guaranteed getting back on the ship if you were held up. Our cabin was an internal over the promenade. This didn't mean it could be noisy later some night, but the size and facilities were good. Twin room with a seating area, large window, fridge, tea facilities, double wardrobe and lots of little areas to store things. The ensuite was good, storage before the corner mirror, good hot shower and the staff kept the room clean and tidy. The I. Room TV was s good source of information as you could check account, download films for a fee, book excursions and watch the various Charles for what was happing. Read Less

Family celebration with a total of 11 adults and children. Several had more, some less cruise experience. Started off with having to call because of candy wrappers, and crumbs on couch and near full windows of our suite. Luggage did not arrive until after 9 p.m.. Main dining was very good (our attendants were excellent!). Buffet was the worst, food cold, was generally not good quality and we quickly ate all meals in the main dinning room. Entertainment was fair although never went to some events (ice skating for example) because of limited times and overcrowding. We had several smaller kids who with adults went to the game area which had no cruise supervision and my wife was knocked down by teenagers running thruout the area. Estimate 25% of games were out of order. Used childcare with average results. Honfleur/Deauville shore excusion was 3 out of 5. Honfleur was pleasant town with nice presentation. Deauville was a drop-off for an hour with no recommendation where to visit or background. Galicia Cellare tour - have been on several winery tours and all were excellent. We drove 2 1/2 hours to winery. We walked to entrance and waited for a few people who needed assistance and people asked questions about the grapes. It was mentioned they were in the process of bottling the wine but never saw the inside and were escourted to an area for wine tasting and where to buy product. Probably 45 min in total. Drove another hour to small town where no background was given and were told to come back in an hour. All the way back the guide complained about the US even though he was wearing his Nike shoes and apparel (he had never been to the US). Rate 1 of 5. We also took an independent tour of Lisbon with We Hate Tourism group. Will review then at another time. Took the Galley tour our second to last day. They were very specific - no open toe shoes and we will teach everyone how to wash their hands like the crew. Over 30% had open toe shoes, no one washed their hands and observed at least 3 times crew handling food without gloves. The chef? who did the tour spoke so soft no one could hear most of his presentaion. Our special lunch afterward was the worst of the week in terms of food and service. Rating 1 of 5 We carried our luggage off of the ship. We got in line to take a taxi to the train station which was a mile away to go to Gatwick. The driver said there was no train but he could take us for 300 pounds. This was confirmed by the port authority individual standing there. I guess they were working together. I told him to take me to the station where there was of course many trains going to Gatwick. I sent my concerns to R/C and have waited over a month with no answer, thus I have submitted this review. We cruise with RC quite regularly so it is very easy to notice the ever increasing evidence of cost cutting each time we go on board. It hasn't quite reached the point where I would consider going elsewhere but it's very close. Firstly, the Main Dining Room. Vastly understaffed. Can't blame the wait staff. It's not their fault that there isn't enough of them. Result is a very long wait between courses and the food is always cold when it arrives. I don't really wish to make complaints when I am on holiday but after 3 or 4 visits of cold food and long waits, we found it was better just to go to the Windjammer and serve ourselves. We found the food in the Windjammer to be of really good quality so we didn't miss the MDR at all Secondly, the atmosphere on board had way too much, sell, sell, sell. I appreciate RC is a business and needs to make a profit but constantly making tannoy announcements for sales of this, sales of that, does start to get irritating. Adding 18% to any and all drinks is a bit cheeky. Especially as most of the time I had to go to the bar myself due to the shortage of waiters. There is also a shortage of bar staff. Doing away with providing shampoo and conditioners is a bit stingy. I would rather pay a bit extra and have these provided as opposed to having to bring my own. Also, the ship is beginning to look a bit worn and tired.. Lots of broken seats in the lounges and carpets with frayed edges getting caught on peoples shoes. And one common gripe, there are simply not enough loungers for the amount of passengers on board. We did see a few arguments caused by guests who left towels on loungers all day even when they weren't being used. On the plus side, the cabins are kept spotlessly clean by the stateroom attendants. Two of the headliner acts were good. The comedian and the ventriloquist . The singers and dancers seemed to be just going through the motions. Read Less

It just keeps getting worse. I’ve been on 2 cruises before, all with Royal Caribbean and I thought they were ok but this year was bad. - Embarkation was smooth. - Breakfast was the same every morning ( sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs etc) I wish there were more healthy options. - Lunch was good, more varieties and new things every day - Dinner and service was good apart from Steak. I ate lots of steaks in different places and I know what medium rare means. These steaks were raw. Four of us ordered and they were all raw. Definitely go for medium well instead. - The stateroom attendant was friendly - The shows were not so good compared to Independence. There was a very good comedian in the first night. On the last night there was a different comedian which wasn’t that good. Some of his jokes were word by word the same as some of the first comedian which was painful to watch. - The cruise director was ok but not very involved. - The ports weren’t very good. Le Havre is too far from Paris so took an excursion to Deauville and Honfleur which were really beautiful. Portugal was ok but not as nice as France. Vigo was a waste of time - The next cruise discounts on board were terrible. Basically 40 dollars off a oceanview stateroom and 165 dollars deposit per person which was not refundable if cancelled. Overall there wasn’t anything wow but just ok. I don’t think it was worth the money. Once I got to airport I realised I forgot my brand new suit and 2 ties in the stateroom. I know it was my fault but there was 0 help with that. Once they take your money they don’t care anymore. That is definitely my last cruise with them and will start trying out other cruise lines. The ship is starting to look tired and a little shabby in some places i.e. Carpets and stairs on the pool deck. But the cleanliness on board is second to none and the staff work tirelessly to ensure your holiday is the best. Food was wonderful. Plenty of choice in the Windjammer. Very busy at times but always managed to find a table. Food was hot, presented well and delicious. Table clearing was very swift and efficient. Food in the main restaurant Saphire was also delicious and well presented. Staff were very accommodating and tried to get a table booking as close to our requested time. This restaurant is very busy and you do have to wait a while for your food at very busy times. Plenty of ice cold drinking water was provided if you didn't want wine. Drinks were very expensive on board. We didn't take the drinks package which was on offer as felt that was expensive as well. Having said this there was plenty of soft drinks, hot and cold drinks readily available. Although the coffee was very stewed at times. So if you are a fresh coffee lover, perhaps avoid the coffee. This was our first cruise and despite a rough time due to weather in the Bay of Biscay on the return I would definitely recommend Royal Caribbean cruising. Read Less

Seventh cruise with RCCL and second on Navigator. Crew excellent as usual, but seemed overworked? Dining room was excellent, so saw no need to go to speciality restaurants. Windjammer usual Windjammer, although sweets and meats fewer? Did not try for a sunbed as by 0930 they were covered in blue towels, and stayed that way.Something needs done about hogging the beds. The ship itself really needs refurbishment. Our balcony cabin deck 8 was very clean and kept donut the fabrics and fittings are faced and worn. There seems to be a combination of sell sell sell and more of the same in the Street The dining room etiquette has gone to the dogs, anything goes on any night especially formal evenings. If you wear smart casual or formal chances are that your eating companions will be interested shirt shorts and flipflops with optional baseball cap !!! Royal Caribbean are a great cruise line and I am due to go again with them, they are lucky that the crew are excellent in dining room and cabin cleaning and that they try everywhere to give good service. Very dissapointed overall as have always praised RC Going back to P&O for next cruise Not worth booking with RC again even with compensation voucher as we would have to spend almost double just to get a few quid knocked off . we have been regular cruisers with Royal Caribbean, indeed we were on Navigator in 2016, but this vessel has changed since then. It is long overdue it,s refit in January 2019, and gives the appearance of a well used 3 star hotel. The corridor and cabin carpets are worn to say the least and as there had been a virus outbreak on the previous cruise deck 7 and 8 had an interesting aroma of vomit as did our bathroom despite the deep clean. The dining was of the usual high standard as was the excellent service and friendliness of the hard working waiters and room stewards. The itinerary is excellent , although Palma on a Sunday is a ghost town. Entertainment and activities were the standard fare, the in house dancers and singers good. the visiting artistes , several of which we had seen before, were also very entertaining. The Ice show spectacular. The main problem is that there appears to have been a loss of "cruise Experience" the ship is tired, the dress code rubbish, high charges and blue towels spread on empty sunbeds. We had booked Navigator again in Autumn but are having serious doubts about stepping back on board. A pity such a great cruise line through cutbacks and money , money , has on this vessel gone too far? Read Less

We chose this cruise to celebrate the 70th birthday of my wife's aunt. Staff was fantastic. Could not fault them one bit. Food at Windjammer was good. Food at other restaurants was average to good. The ship is starting to show clear signs of age and being tired. And cruises like ours that was full of teenagers and kids doesn't help. The behavior of most teenagers was disgusting. Some were even having sex after dark on sunbeds. And kids would scream, run riot and press all the buttons in the lifts. Drunken or smoking Mums were ignoring their kids. It's a cruise, not a bloody creche. Ports and Shore Excursions were good. I went out on every port. We felt let down by the Spa a bit. They tried to charge us gratuity despite us having paid gratuity upfront. The entertainment and activities were good. Generally, the ship is starting to show some signs of age. Carpets need replacing. Wood in lifts needs changing in a few lifts. There are some areas with minor rust. I feel like I need another holiday to get over that one. Read Less

Our 3rd cruise with RC but this time with extended family. We love the informal feel of this company and had an amazing time however the choice of food in the main dining has got more restricted each time. The waiter did say we could ask for things not on the menu but when my daughter asked for Salmon and rice she was told that wasn't on the menu for tonight! Although the headline entertainment acts have changed the events/ entertainment on each of our previous cruises is identical e.g. Circus parade and best of British. Also, no adult only areas/bars. I don't want to listen to your tired, whingy child at 11pm thank you. The Cosmopolitan club says no children after 10pm but this is not enforced. This time we did our own thing on shore and that worked well for us loved Cagliari, Cadiz and Lisbon. We were quite a walk from the town centre in Palma and I refuse to pay 40 euros to get 4 people in to town. This was an overnight and on reflection it may have been better to hire a car. Read Less

This was our first cruise and we loved it. Royal Caribbean staff were all very good and focused on ensuring we had a great time. We arranged our own travel to and from the ship which went well. The check in process was fairly seamless inc our bags being taken from back of taxi to our cabins so we could immediately enjoy and explore the ship. The cabins (spacious ocean views) did feel spacious. We were on deck 9 and right at the front of the ship which was great for seeing where we were. Dining experiences in the main dining room were on the whole superb. We didn’t see the value in paying for speciality restaurants. The ports were good with highlights being Lisbon ( the RC Land and Water excursion was superb), Cadiz ( we simply walked off the boat and had a lovely walk along the promenade and then through the narrow city streets - a beautiful city), Gibraltar ( don’t pre book - we simply paid a taxi driver for a 90 min tour of rock and caves and then were dropped back in town. Much cheaper) & Palma ( we did RC Drach Caves tour which was very good). The shuttle bus is a rip off! 20 euros each to get you out of the port!. We thought Sardinia was very shabby and wouldn’t return. Finally, we did RC tour to Guadalest in Alicante which was very pretty. The post booking info could be better and would be the main thing I would want improved. You get a link to log into cruise planner which has options to buy things like drinks package that we had already bought. The information for cruise virgins was poor, especially when you then watch information on tv on the ship that explains all the things you wanted to know before you left! Read Less

Navigator B2B We went on Navigator of the Seas out of Southampton on a Western Mediterranean cruise from May 13-27 and then from May 27-June 3 on a Northern Europe cruise. Funny about weather. Although the Mediterranean was smooth as glass for most of our first two weeks, the temperature was much higher in Oslo than in Spain and Italy. We took the Southampton bus from the Heathrow station between terminals 2 and 3. It was fast and easy and we found the driver and other staff to be very helpful. The bus station is close to the dock, but just out of the distance I would want to roll my bag, so we took a cab. We stayed in Southampton for a few days before the cruise at the Holiday Inn right by the dock. It was simple to drag our bags over to the ship. We took the Red Funnel ferry to the Isle of Wight to visit Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s summer residence. This was probably our favourite tourist attraction of the whole trip. We also walked a lot in Southampton and thought the food was quite good. The British people we met on our cruise laughed and said we’d probably spent more time there than most British people who just use Southampton as a parking lot before they get on the ship. First, the ship. We were on Deck 9 in a balcony cabin – 9756. We’ve done a few cruises in Grand Suites lately and were worried about the size. No worries, though! We loved the cabin and even after 3 weeks we weren’t feeling cramped. No noise, smell, or service issues as reported by other cruisers. The only major thing we noticed since our last cruise was that the bag of laundry deal now excludes jeans! We had to ask for our bathrobes but the steward was quick to get them for us. On the first cruise, our fellow cruisers were, overwhelmingly, older people from Britain. Over a thousand had Diamond status and beyond. The Diamond Lounge was extended into the adjacent Cosmopolitan Club from 4:30 – 8:30, with crew checking ID. I spoke to some new cruisers who were surprised by this and felt like second class citizens. There were a few families with very young children, but generally, a quiet lot. The Windjammer was so busy they sometimes opened Giovannis for seating. I wasn’t particularly in love with the design that has Windjammer covered all the way to the back. It was very hot in the window areas. The food was good, though. On our last two cruises, they had removed smoked salmon from the breakfast selections, so I was glad to see it back. Chops, Giovannis, and Izumi were great. Good service and great food! The ship had just changed Sabor from Mexican to a Spanish tapas menu and we LOVED it. We were hesitant but everyone at our 8:30 seating in the main dining room had tried it and were impressed. As they had suggested, we asked our waiter to bring selections until we told him we were full. The Main Dining room was fine, but I was disappointed that the bread selection is no longer warm and presented to each diner. It now sits in the middle of the table. The Spa was as expected. Very nice service but lots of sales pressure. I was surprised to receive sales calls from the Spa on my cabin phone. It’s okay to get email messages on the cabin TV, but really, who wants a sales call while on vacation? Ports of Call – Cruise #1 I kept the info from the excursions desk that describes each of the port areas and how far it is to town, how to get shuttles, etc. I will add those to the information for each of the ports in the appropriate area of Cruise Critic. I want to say that EVERY city, except maybe Gibraltar, was spotlessly clean and we never felt unsafe. Although we were surprised by the cost of public toilets, the toilets were clean and safe. Gibraltar – okay for a short stop. We walked and enjoyed a light lunch but it was very busy everywhere. Alicante – beautiful city. We did the wine tasting tour and they stopped at a church designed by a student of Antoni Gaudi. We enjoyed both and especially the beautiful countryside along the way Rome – we bought express train tickets through RCCL and then did Rome on our own. We found the guide to be very helpful in getting us set up to see as much as possible. Florence- did the same thing as Rome. People we spoke to went into town in Livorno and said they wished they had arranged a tour of had gone to Pisa. Marseille- we’ve been to Provence several times on land, so took the shuttle and walked the old part of the city, which is quite compact. Not a lot to see. We wished we had arranged a tour instead. Plus, the shuttle was 20 Euros each return. Ridiculous and due to traffic rules, we were still blocks away from the fish market areas. Not a big deal to us, but people with canes were very upset. Barcelona – love love love! If you take a shuttle from the ship, the downtown “Las Ramblas” area is totally walkable and entertaining. There are lots of little side streets and probably the best window shopping of our trip. Lisbon – we did a wine trip to an area very close to the coast and they stopped at a tile making factory. There were many people on our bus who had been to Lisbon before and said the excursion was one of the best they had done. Vigo – Another short stop where we just walked the city. There are lots of hills and lots of cobblestones and so we got our exercise, but it was quite a wonderful surprise. End of cruise number one. Back to Southampton. Had a coffee, got back on board, and had the same cabin. Cruise #2 Night and day as far as our fellow passengers. It was half term break in Britain and this cruise was packed with families – lots of tweens and teens. We were told there were over 1000 minors on the cruise. There were also almost 2000 first time cruisers, due to a big promotion run in Britain. There were also far fewer Diamond members but surprisingly some entire families with Diamond status. The Diamond Lounge host did speak to a few kids who came in with shorts and flip-flops after 4:30 and they returned properly dressed. All that said, we had a blast! It was so fun to watch the kids form groups, hang out (everyone we saw was on their best behaviour), and especially, use the sports facilities. The pools, Flow Rider, climbing wall, and basketball court were very popular. Hamburg – this was such a lovely city. I was expecting a port town with not much more than the famous red light district, but it was so much more than that. They have so much innovative architecture, green initiatives. and more canals than Amsterdam! Be sure to get up early so you can follow the long trip in on the river. We did a canal tour that took us through lovely residential areas for miles and miles. Oslo – I have been up the coast of Norway but not to Oslo, so this was much anticipated. Like Hamburg, be sure to get up early to watch the passage through the fjord and to see all the islands along the way. This was the most northerly city on our cruise, but also the warmest day of our trip! It was around 30C. People were jumping into the harbour swimming and the parks were full. We took public transit up to the ski jump, which has been built as a piece of sculpture that shines out over the city. My grandfather was a world champion ski jumper from Norway, so this was very much of interest. The little commuter train winding up the mountain was a treat in itself. I love the Jo Nesbo detective books, so I got to see far more of the residential hillsides than I thought I would. The ski jump and museum are well worth the trip up, and if you can’t manage the hillside climb from the train station, there are ship’s excursions that will take you. One note of caution about the Hop On Hop Off bus company in Oslo. When you get on the bus at the docks, they go counterclockwise through downtown and then the parks, the maritime museum area, and back to the ships. This means that when you are at the maritime museums, every single person trying to get back to the ships will already have a seat on the bus, and due to time constraints, few people will be getting off. We saw some very panicked faces! I asked, and they don’t run any going clockwise to alleviate that situation. Public transit is easy to use in Oslo and it might be easier to do that and then to take a cab back afterward. Brugge – absolutely stunning. I have so many friends who have been and they always rave about it. We took an “on your own” tour that got us to the edge of the city and situated with maps, then we also did a canal trip on our own. We left at 1 and you could hardly move it was so crowded, so go early. Back to Southampton. We dragged our own luggage off, took a 10 pound cab ride to the bus station and then a very fast bus into London’s Victoria Station. Read Less

So a group of 6 of us travelled out of Southampton on a 14 night Mediterranean cruise. This was my first cruise from the UK and if I am honest, I am not sure I would do it again. There are definitely pro's to it if you are from the UK like unresricted baggage allowance, the hassle free process of no flights etc, but I do feel the first few day and last few days were ruined by bad weather. I appreciate you can get this anywhere but a rainy cloudy day in the Caribbean is still warm but when its gusty and cold, you are restricted to what you can do especially on a sea day. So, to sum up my time. Positives: 1. Service was amazing - Rodney and Dixon in the main dining room were attentive and brilliant. 2. Food was good. It doesn't compare to celebrity in regards to selection but still we had no complaints. 3. Facilities - There is plenty to do on board which was great for those rainy days. 4. Cabin - Both the cabin and cabin steward were fantastic. Negatives - 1. Had some issues in the spa where we kept getting overcharged for treatments. My advice would be to get them to write the price down for you when booking to save any confusion. 2. Shows - Too many comedians (like 6 on a 14 night cruise). They kept repeating the same jokes in the end. 3. The promenade parade. The last time I was on board, they had a huge parade with all the crew involved. Now it is labelled as a circus and lasts around 5 minutes. 4. The biggest bug bear for me was the amount of places they closed for private functions. This leaves little place for the majority to go especially when the weather isn't great so everyone is inside anyway. Overall, great crew, amazing ship but think I will stick to flying somewhere first to give a better chance of good weather. Read Less

We chose this cruise line because of the EUROPEAN EXPERIENCE AND LENGTH OF CRUISE. I expected a more Royal experience, but found staff to be overworked and ship understaffed making staff very short in temprement. The 24 hour food experience is totally overated. Lacking in quality and variety. Beverages available are water coffee and iced tea during meals, forcing cruisers to buy the overpriced beverage packages. The specialty restaurant packages again are very expensive and food is mediocre.Entertainment was of the same but nice and well put together. SCHOONER BAR experience was far the most entertaining and fun. The specialty stores have merchandise that is over priced and can easily be found in the USA at lower cost. I would recomend that they add metchandise that is genuine to the counntries visited. Italian leather, spanish and Portugese products, French products. I found that the fashion jewelry is the thing that I can purchase at my local JC Penny. T shirts jackets clothing is extremely expensive, that is why it probably does not sell. At some point they had a sale of Russian Artifacts that had nothing to do with the destinations that we visited. It seemned as though somebody pulled this out of their sleeve last minute to get rid of past merchandise. Very little attention to detail as far as I am concerned. Read Less

We chose this cruise due to the number of countries it stoped in.The ship Navigator of the Seas was very clean and the staff on board were simply the best! We started out in Southampton England and since we came in a day early we decided to take the train to Windsor and tour the Castle. That was one of the highlights of the vacation. The next morning we boarded the ship with ease. Our cabin was in a great location with easy access to the stairs and elevators. The food all over the ship was wonderful. It always amazes me on how they can prepare so much food for so many people and it still has such great flavor. The service we received was second to none. The entertainment was good overall but there was one comedian that was British and we couldn't really understand him. He also sang and that was really good. The Ice Skating show is a must! Fabulous!! All of the stops we wonderful but our overall favorite was Alicante,Spain. What a beautiful place and so clean. At the completion of the cruise we chose express check out as we had a very early flight. It was a breeze..We definitely will cruise with Royal Caribbean again(as this is our 7th) and I hope it will be very soon. Read Less

I had done my homework on Royal Caribbean and overall was very happy with the 2 weeks on board, the food and staff especially were the stand out features closely followed by top class entertainment each evening, my only negatives were the prices for the excursions which I found too high, the drinks packages were also very expensive, I didn't like the fact you couldn't buy 1 alcohol package especially as my wife doesn't drink, the only way to get this would of ben to provide a doctors note, this was very disappointing, all inclusive could mean that which would of made this a 10/10 holiday. The times in port could of been longer, especially Rome, for me I would of preferred an overnight in Rome and missed one of the other ports, every day was a bit of a rush, but it is a fantastic way to see so many different places. Finally we met some lovely people, some of which we will keep in touch with, this made the holiday that bit more special. Read Less

We decided on this cruise as it was my twin sisters and my 60th birthday just before we sailed and it was the only one that we could find that suited all of us (always fun travelling with family). We have been on the Navi before, but my twin sister and her hubby have never cruised, so RCI is a good choice for those that don't really like dressing up too much (my brother in law). It has been 11 years since we were last on the Navi, and if you look closely, you can see her age, but that is nick picking. Check in was nice and quick - just had to wait in security - a norm nowadays - and on-board for a spot of lunch and our first cocktail. We managed to be and the gate when the others arrived and enjoy their reaction from the first sight of the Royal Promenade - great. After showing around for a bit it was off to see the cabin - we had decided to have a cabin on deck 7 overlooking the promenade as it is a good vantage point for the parades. The beds are great with lots of room, shower/toilet again plenty of room but the amount of space to actually stow your gear is limited, and I am sure we managed to loose something behind the very small drawers under the TV. Our luggage duly arrived and the unpacking commenced... We had a table for 8 in the main dining room on deck 3 first sitting, I don't know how they do it but we the others on our table we another family of 4 (mum dad son and daughter in law) with the same kind of background and humour as us. We managed to dine every night but only once was it on our own, and in most cases, everybody dressed up as suggested. Our table waiters were great - and of course did the sing along when our birthday cake arrived, and even the head waiter was seen every night. The food was good, on occasion excellent and other times just ok, but that was more down to my taste rather than quality. The entertainment team (not the acts) were mostly british and good fun, we even managed to win a key ring,... some of the headliner acts were not to my taste but those we did see were very good. The singers and dances are good but seem to be lacking in something, not sure what, but considering that they have been on as a troup since january, you would have thought they should be top notch. The ice skating shows are still very good. Some of the quizzes seemed to be more international than others.. Ports of call and trips - well the ports were very good, the ships excursions and shuttle bus costs seem to be very high and in one case we did complain about the cost. We only did the one excursion and rather enjoyed it. Bar prices again were not cheap but we don't drink enough to warrant the drinks package and as we had a reasonable amount of on board credit, it worked out ok for us. Read Less

Mostly smooth sailing except in North Atlantic. Ship clean & maintained. Excellent, quick service. Cabin & shower small as usual. Virtual Balcony was very nice. Excellent entertainment (although focused toward Brits-some humor not understood). Some problems with shore excursions - late tram in Lisbon, poor audio equipment, hard to understand guides, long walk from/to bus in Pisa. Fun trivia games, especially with Canadian Emily who spoke very clearly. Wish we had an extra day in Rome. Some coordination problems with disembarkation at Vigo-long wait. Transfer bus to airport was stuffy-no air while waiting to leave. Some issues with ship design - only one women’s toilet in gym; automatic door difficult to close. Some lockers too high to reach. Jacuzzi in gym sometimes closed; no jets, not hot enough. Jacuzzi in Solarium no jets only bubbles. Need more variety and more healthy options in Promenade Cafe. Corner of Schooner Bar was stinky but better after notifying Guest Services. Trivia/quizzes need to be in larger venue, especially on sea days. Read Less
