This was a chartered cruise by Cruiseco and billed as an 80s theme with over 38 acts performing during the cruise. It was very well organised with added benefit of the Royal Caribbean standard. Booked 3 weeks before departure & benefitted from a half price cost which proved to be great value for money - took out a drinks package which was reasonable price and well worth it. Entertainment was well organised ensuring all got to see headline acts. we were surprisingly allocated a promenade view cabin on deck 8 which exceeded our expectations. Although our preference of anytime dining was not available the restaraunt went out their way to accommodate our needs - the food was the usual high standard as expected and the service could not be faulted. Feel full price was overpriced and hopefully if this is to be an annual event consideration will be to pricing and possibly pitch it in between full & half price - definitely would recommend and look forward to it happening again. We had previously cruised on the Navigator in 2016 and enjoyed it (13 Nights), despite the ship looking a little jaded in places, but the shows and the itinerary made up for the condition of the ship. However in 2017 the ship looks a little rougher, but the shows are identical and the staff are just not interested in being polite and happy. The itinerary had been cut by 3 port days, which meant that there was 5 days at sea and 5 days in port, on the 5 days at sea, 2 of them where crossing the Bay of Biscay, so that wasn’t great, but we knew it would be so, however we were not prepared for such a worn out mattress on our bed, which made the crossing harder, due to the mattress being uncomfortable to start with. We asked for it to be changed, only to find it had been "padded" with towels, which made the hot nights unbearable. Overall this cruise had less days, a shorter itinerary, for more money! The bar service was very slow in some areas. Could have been much better. Read Less

I usually feel the product delivered by RCI to be consistent and usually above average.I found one member of staff on this ship who actually smiled and engaged with me. Most members of staff, especially the bar staff, seemed miserable and lacking in any desire to serve. Usually I look forward to dinner in the main dining room but our waitress was so grumpy I felt like I was an inconvenience to her. I appreciate this ship is one of the older vessels and that it does not make financial sense to invest money in it now but there were obvious signs (literally the metropolis theatre sign was missing two letters) that this ship needed some attention. Bad smells, poor air conditioning in our room, wardrobe door hanging off. I am sure you are aware that some of the older ships do not get the investment that the newer ones do and I also see that that is reflected in the price but it felt at times that the basics were missing. I had such a wonderful time on the independence last october and that is also one of the older vessels so I know that it can be achieved. The good time I had on that ship was largely down to the wonderful staff we had ( CD Jamie fentiman and AM katy McCullagh were exceptional) I felt the CD on the navigator cuddy cuddleson and his activities manager mark? were not up to the standard I have experienced before such as the aforementioned jamie fentiman and also joff eaton who is always exceptional. I also had a CD called Mercedes a few years ago and she was wonderful as well. I really could go on and on about all the things on the Navigator that I feel are substandard but I really do not have the time, I love RCI and will continue to cruise with them but I feel I will avoid the older ships as I don't think the effort is put in there. This is the 3rd time of cruising with RC and for the 3rd time not disappointed at all. The ship was kept so clean and sparkling. The Cruise Director Cuddy was such a big and friendly character in every way. The dining staff, Douglas and Diogo in the Sapphire Dining Room were always smiling and very hospitable and the food was tip-top. Our room attendant Wayan was so dedicated to keep our room clean. We were not bored at all as there was something constantly going on throughout the day. The theatre shows were entertaining especially Gareth Oliver and his wife, ventriloquists with a difference! Very funny and so quick witted. Hilary O'Neil and the Beatles Celebration were excellent entertainment also. Embarking and disembarking was so slick and hassle-free. I am booked on this ship again in October and really looking forward to Sunshine in the Canaries. Thank you RC for a wonderful de-stressing break. Read Less

Value for money was the reason for booking with RC. The crew are the main asset of the company. RC have let themselves down by constantly looking for ways of extracting money from you with items grossly over priced and items charged for when inclusive with other companies. We had an all inclusive drinks package which you had to pay for water. Fragrance was tax free yet still twice the price of Boots stores. Incorrect charges were applied to our accounts on several occasions, which had to be corrected. RC have a two tier passenger policy were the Sky bar was closed to the majority of passengers until 8.30 every evening, even when there were very few people using it. Sun beds closed off for these passengers and rarely used. The Star lounge was closed off in addition to the sky bar, one evening. The knock on affect of this puts strain on others. There was limited seating around the ship which is very poor made worse by these private functions. Entertainment and day time activities were poor or had an additional charge applied which are inclusive with other companies. Other passengers, that holidayed on this ship last year, told us they could see RC had cut back in many areas and were, like us, disappointed and will look elsewhere when booking their next cruise. My Wife's 70th and Grandson's 21st and our 50th anniversary. We liked the Dining room and Windjammer for the casual meals, the food was good. Drinks and shore excursions were very expensive when compared to the online booking prices and the onshore (local tours) The exchange rate for South Africans made it even worse. Shore excursion members were not very helpful when asked for info on doing our own thing such as where to go. The ship was good but starting to show it's age, some automatic doors did not work properly and occasionally stayed open, really noticeable on bad weather days. Rust patches were visible although small there were quite a few. The Ice show and Beatles show were excellent, but some of the other musical entertainers and Bands were obviously "low budget" and disappointing. The guy who did presentations on Flying was very good and interesting. TV movies, there was only one and repeated every day for the whole 14 day cruise. Read Less
