Note: Hurricane Dorian had just gone through a week beforehand so I am not going to base any of my review on the Nassau Port beach areas or initial expectation of beach enjoyment rather, I will focus my review on the Navigator, Nassau, & Coco Cay's activities and amenities. We had booked beach/ocean excursions but canceled after the hurricane knowing that the water would be full of debris and not clear. It's a good thing or we would have wasted a lot of money. Myself & 18 Year Old Daughter Ocean View Room - Deck 2 Budget Trip to Enjoy the Ship & Ports - No extra packages etc. We literally wanted to sit by the pool and on the beach. First, the Cons: Ship: The ship is showing signs of wear and tear, seats in certain venues are worn and look rough. Cushions on the deck in the Solarium are stained and as the fabric is a solid, light color, it has a particularly "nasty" vibe on the cushioned couple's lounges...if you know what I mean. (Hey Designers....the cushions would be better off with a printed fabric.) The Solarium pool is a little worn and the fountains never worked while we were there. On cruise days, there just wasn't enough shaded seating as an option on the decks and if you didn't get there early, there wasn't enough seating around the pools, period. We spent a lot of time looking for pool seating then heading indoors so as not to get burned until people would disperse for activities. Seriously, there was NO music at the Solarium, no steel drums, no dj, nothing...just this weird dead air silence or chatter from the people laying about. We could hear music from the other pool but if you didn't want to share the pool with kids, you didn't get the fun entertainment or music at all. There wasn't enough music on board in my opinion. Cabin: Let me say, I was hesitant about our cabin location but I LOVED it. This was a budget trip but I can't do rooms without natural light so I spent more on the OceanView but didn't choose our room. Our steward was super nice and kept our space very nice but you could tell that she was just "done & over" the whole thing. We made sure to leave her a nice tip and try to keep our space clean. I felt that we may have been in her way a lot. As for the room, we had 2 twins set up and everything in our cabin was perfect except, 1. there was mold growing between the glass and wall in the shower behind the seal, not a place that can be cleaned. (poor design) 2. The decor and linens are starting to look worn and there are a lot of stains on the whites. 3. Our window stayed pretty dirty which hindered our view.....we couldn't tell if it was between the glass or outside but it's probably because it was so low to the water. Food: Windjammer had too much repetition, especially at breakfast and lunch. The food seemed to be geared toward the kid's palate, not adults as much. This is probably a good way to get cruisers to try the elevated dining but be prepared for that if you plan on traveling on a budget. The "American" food choices were a bit bland while the "International" foods were sometimes oversalted, especially the meat at the taco bar by the pool.....add rice and beans to subdue that. Also, if you like chocolate, you are going to really be searching the ship, there wasn't a lot. If you don't drink a lot of alcohol or sodas, buying a drink package is pointless but be prepared to have little to no selection for beverages. On day one, the Windjammer had coffee, hot tea, water, ice tea, lemonade, and oj, after day one, I only saw coffee, hot tea, water and apple juice (watered down)....you had to really hunt down water as the dispensers were often empty. It's difficult to refill water bottles at the dispensers but quick tip, if you go to the soda dispensers, they also have water and you can fit a water bottle under the spout. The hot tea selection is pretty decent so if you can find ice (good luck) you can make a decent ice tea....bring your own reusable bottle/cup or you will struggle to stay hydrated. Entertainment: Again, more music on the Solarium deck please! Also, throughout the ship, there needs to be more music during the daytime. The rest of this con is personal preference as entertainment is so subjective. Much of the Promenade entertainment felt very "middle school pep rally" except the live bands across from the Cafe Promenade...they were awesome even though you had to stand in the walkways to watch. The library needs to be repurposed; I was told that a lot of the books get thrown out when there is a shipboard virus or people walk off with them so it was really a sad sight to see almost empty shelves. This would be a good space to display more art, have a coffee house vibe, or even just some sort of interactive space. If you are a solo traveler or have a travel companion that is introverted, plan on a lot of people watching as most activities on board are hard to enjoy solo. Nassau - Since we canceled our water activities, we decided to explore Nassau by foot and have lunch at Senor Frogs (go see Michael, he's great). We explored the Straw Market and walked around the town a bit. There is a LOT of aggressive souvenir selling, most of which are repeated items, look for local artisans that are sitting and making and buy from them then just say no thank you when you are finished. On the walking paths, a lot of "high end" shops with "callers" from all sides. If you are traveling with small children or those who have sensory sensitivities, this can be overwhelming and scary. We decided after several hours of being called after ("Mami, can I be your son-in-law!" was constant) it was time to go back and just enjoy some quiet pool time. Ok, Now the Pros - If you are traveling with kids, this is the ship for you!!! Ship: The waterslides, flowrider, rockwall (early before it gets hot), courts, putt putt golf, pools, WATERSLIDES, game rooms, ice skating rink (bring long pants and socks), laser tag, splash parks, teen rooms, WATERSLIDES are AMAZING!! Did I mention the waterslides???? I'm almost 50 and I LOVED them, totally went on them more than you can imagine. If you are are traveling with kids, you are going to have fun. You can even sit in the pool and watch family friendly movies after dinner. The side balconies on the 4th deck and deck 3 are the best places to hang out when the ship arrives and leaves the docks....it's just beautiful and gives that windy "I'm king of the world" feel. If you don't mind being in full sun, there are a lot of upper deck areas to enjoy the view the ride. However, if you need to be indoors because you fry crispy in 10 minutes, head to the Cosmopolitan during the day, it's practically always empty and has a gorgeous view from the top with wrap around windows. You can take your drink up there, a journal, book, sketch pad and have hours of uninterrupted solitude with a great view. Food: If you aren't eating at the Select Restaurants on board but are tired of the Windjammer, make sure you go to the dining room! Their food is top notch and if you get Rob & Felix as your servers, you are going to be pampered. Don't feel bad if you want to order 2 desserts or appetizers, it's totally worth it. Do it! Never leave the dining room without experiencing the creme brulee....if you don't get it, you have missed out. I've decided that anytime the dining room is open when I am on a cruise, I will be there. It saved the food experience for our trip. The taco bar by the main pool is a tasty alternative to the lunch in the Windjammer but their meat tends to be on the salty side so make sure that you get a little extra beans or rice to cut that and some lime and you will be happy! Entertainment: If you are planning a cruise and you love art, add an art budget to your allowance....oh my word, the art auction by Park West was the absolute best fun. I didn't have it in my budget but I left with 6 authenticated, signed art prints in hand and I'm waiting on my Anatole Krasnyansky print to arrive. I just kept entering raffles and participating in the art games and I'm stoked that I came home with so much artwork. I have a few that I like and I've got gifts for Christmas! Look for the piano man in the elevators, that's a lot of fun. Go to the shows....some are hokey but Showgirls was great! We saw their last performance but I'm sure it will be replaced by something else equally great. I enjoyed the Latin dancing and music on board BUT would have loved to have someone to dance with...they need to add professional dancers (like in Dirty Dancing) to dance with solo cruisers because otherwise we have to sit and watch. :( Go to the late night dance parties if you like pulsating dance club vibes on a low key level. I noted that there were a lot of in-bar activities during the day; game show type games, karaoke, bingo, wine/martini/whiskey tastings, and most were geared towards couples. Coco Cay - IF YOU HAVE KIDS>>>>>>>WOWZA! The splash park, waterslides, pools, etc are amazing, you will have a blast. It's a waterpark on an island. Plan on spending the whole day the same way that you do at a waterpark....bring your sunscreen and just let the kids RUN. Read Less

Just returned from a short Stages cruise on Navigator of The Seas, Found good and bad points on board, I will start with the good. Embarking the ship was easy arriving by taxi we waited a short while, the were passed via security check onto check in and on board, only to find no cabins were ready very little seating area, lunch was served in the Windjammer which was excellent but this quickly filled up, and seats here also run short, so it was eat up and back on your feet walking around looking for seats, cabins were opened at 1:30 pm but when we found ours it was still being cleaned, the luggage was also missing, and this never arrived till after 5pm.. Cabins were good but lacked a few home comforts no Shower Gel, Shower Caps, Hair Dryers etc. Crew were very good always a smile and tried hard to please, with exception of customer services, wifi desk , and the excursion desk. The excursion desk were no help , give no information and failed to arrange shuttle busses in port. We were allocated first sitting for dinner but told we there were no reserved tables and it was first come first served! So we dined in the Windjammer. The bars were VERY expensive at $8 a pint! With the result not many used them. Entertainment was first class with big star names like Michael Ball, Collabro, Bobby Dravro and a host more, only problems there were long queues for each show, with seats for some shows reserved for VIPs and shows often over run and clashed. On return to Southampton we were given breakfast and luggage unloaded with great speed as the ship had a very short turn round. One last point my wife was taken ill and we had to visit the medical centre twice , the staff were very good, but for the size of the ship was worried it was under staffed! Read Less

We chose this cruise to the Caribbean for the dates. The process of getting aboard was worse than the security lines at the airport. it took so long they had to offer wheelchairs to various older adults in the queues! We queued for nearly 90 minutes and then it took another 20ish minutes to get sorted before we could board. The entertainment was certainly hit and miss. The ice skating shows were great but the main entertainment in the evening theatre were VERY variable. The three twenty somethings were not impressed with the entertainment or activities. Nothing really hit the mark for them during the whole 9 days. On the other hand our teenager loved the teenage group and loved meeting lots of different people. He had a blast! The ports were quite similar but not sure what we expected from a Caribbean island! Activities were VERY expensive for instance at Labadee in Haiti the zip wire was $110 per person!! Read Less

We went on this cruise with a group as a business trip. The food was below par, the buffet was the leftovers from the dining room the night before. The Saphire Dining Room meals were equal to a Chili's or Red Robin in the US. Definitely not getting what you paid for. We ate in Chops one night, food was OK, but it would be what I expected in the main dining room, and I would expect better from one of the specialty restaurants. Entertainment was short and choppy; 30 minutes here, 15 minutes there, but nothing to hold you there or keep you entertained. We did the drink package which was very expensive, but cheaper than buying 3 drinks a day. Our balcony suite had ripped sheets on the bed, the picture frame was so tarnished it looked black in the left corner, we had 6 bottles of water in the room for the entire 9 days, if you wanted free water you had to get it on a different deck, if you ordered it to your room, you paid a room service fee. It's a giant floating mall where they nickle and dime you for everything. I'm very sad that cruises have become so below average. We won't be cruising anymore. Teresa Read Less

I thought the short flight would appeal however travelling over the bay of biscay was terrible I suffered terrible sea sickness which I never experienced before so I would not choose that route again I have been on this ship three times before and I felt that the standards had slipped a little I still enjoyed the trip but just not as much as before - I feel there were lttle extras before that we now don't have like nicer toiletries etc. The food choices were not as varied as before and I feel that the entertainment was good but not very different - also we used the stay a while facility and we were led to believe we could use the ship as before and this was not the case they shut down your sea pass. We could not use the facilities as we were led to believe unless we paid more money so I was confused as to what we paid the thirty nine dollars for so w complained and it was sorted however we do know that other people were not as fortunate as us Read Less

We chose this cruise on the recommendation of a friend. Cabin 3628 was very stuffy and noisy caused by the ships engine and extractor fan. As this was our first cruise we didn't know what to expect but certainly not hard sell on everything. We didn't have a drinks package and the cost of wine etc was prohibitive. Needless to say those who had a drinks package were drinking from early morning until late at night to get value for money. Smokers were allowed on the deck and in the casino and we found this offputting. The tours were ok but again very expensive. The plusses were the staff, food and some of the entertainment was excellent. However the windjammer was a bun fight and we preferred the other restaurants. We paid the gratuity before the cruise but found envelopes left on our bed on the last day - we gave our room attendant extra as we felt he was worth it but. He seemed unhappy about the sum given and informed us that his entire salary was just tips indeed on one cruise he received 72 dollars in total for two weeks work and 17 cabins to clean. If this is true RC need to give their staff a basic salary. Perhaps we are not large ship cruisers and will try smaller cruises ships in the future. Read Less

Southampton sailing and liked the overnight in palma. Not sure whether we would sail again from Southampton due to poor weather on return. What a shame that Rci have now resorted to the cheapest form of entertainment in one of the better lounges , that being karaoke, particularly on most nights. No problem occasionally. Lounges on this ship were not distinctive and entertainment dated and mediocre at best. Who the wine bar was aimed at I could not decipher as the wine bars I patronise are usually sophisticated and furnished accordingly not with dark cheap wooden tables and chairs with absolutely no atmosphere. The dining experience, however still manages to hang on to excellence in its service, presentation and food. Having cruised many times before I feel this ship tried to cover too big a distance. This often led to it being uncomfortable on deck due to ships speed. Please review itineraries. Customers on this type of cruise want to sunbathe and go ashore often. Read Less

Chose this cruise based on ports of call. Prices for lots of things increased from just last year: bottled water delivered to cabin; cost for room service; prices for alcoholic beverages and sundry items (DayQuil cough suppresant) was outright gouging. Price charged by RCI for transport from airport to Southampton port was too high: $101/pp one way. Production shows ranged from merely adequate to outstanding. All of Captain's commentary was translated to SPANISH. Why? The cruise departed Southampton, probably 85% of the guests were from the British Isles. How many English residents speak only Spanish? How many Spanish-speaking guests were aboard, who spoke no English at all? Two days in St. Petersburg was great; Helsinki was a disappointment. Only thing there is the Sibelius Park and the Rock Church. Maybe should have had a port of call in Sweden instead. Just need a couple more nights to achieve next C&A status. But probably will consider cruising with another cruise line in the future. Read Less

I booked 2 rooms one for us and another couple friend. This was their 1st time on a cruise so they loved it however it was our 5th but 1st time with Royal C. I found ship very small compare to others and very crowded on a sea day. Always struggling to find space to sit near the bar area when there is nothing else going on. Also hard work finding seats up in the Windjammer at anytime. Food in the dinning hall was very poor quality and tasteless though the head person who was looking after our table was trying his best but the chef's compare to WindJammers were not good with our requests and 3 of us were vegetarians. Finally we decided to just eat in Windjammer. Also they closed at 9pm which was too early as lots of people use to get there after the 1 show and people who want to see the 2 show were also trying to eat there as it would close before the 2nd show finished. Some waiters were friendly and others not, as they struggled with speaking English. Our room was on the 9th floor 9660 which was right opposite the stairs for service and so bringing luggage or taking luggage or any other time we use to hear lots of noises at odd hours. Entertainment was good but then other cruise liners were also good. We had all inclusive drinks package so that was good but even then from 4th day they did not have mint or sometimes lemon or certain beers and asked us to go to another bar which kept our choice. Oh and on the 10th day we found out from another passenger that we could order special request food at Windjammer which was really nice but this should have been told by the dinning hall people from the 1st day when they knew 3 out of 4 in our party were vegetarian. Immigration for St Petersburg was very long and took forever. We left our ship at 11.30 since we were queuing from 8.30am !! But it was worth it and our guide was very good English speaking and recovered the lost time and finished late. I would go on this cruise again only if there is a very good deal otherwise if I had to pay the same money then I would go on other cruise liner. Read Less

The ship was impressive huge but easy to find your way about. Entertainment was absolute rubbish. Highlight of week was Bobby Davao we walked out. He spent all his time insulting people, it seems a trend, we had three so called comedians all did same. The dance group was ok, but only appeared three times in 11 nights. Food was exceptional windjammer busy but still good we always got a table, the Sapphire was wow service always good to excellent The room larger than we have had comfy no complaints in any shape or form, credit to staff The service desk was less than helpful, my wife lost her passport coming aboard in Russia, they just said go to bed sleep on it, really could you? The security people were great turned the place upside down found it, Watch out for the drinks packages sp and up make sure you get up Now the worst part, pay pay pay and then pay again I wanted 4 a batteries for camera, no shop on board sold them, I could get rechargeable ones for 59 dollars including charger I Finland I got 4 for 4 euroes All e shops sold expensive and I mean expensive stuff, no place to go to say a razor The tours, use the hop on hop off busses well worth it but make sure in Helsinki you have plenty of time traffic is really bad had us worried we wouldn't make it back Tour organisation is bit amerterish, we went to ballet had to stand for half an hour waiting for busses dam cold The ship shakes and shivers in anything but calm, had to stay up all night with her as she was seasick, they showed films on the big screen outside at night , we we in the Baltic for heavens sake. Value for money was the reason for booking with RC. The crew are the main asset of the company. RC have let themselves down by constantly looking for ways of extracting money from you with items grossly over priced and items charged for when inclusive with other companies. We had an all inclusive drinks package which you had to pay for water. Fragrance was tax free yet still twice the price of Boots stores. Incorrect charges were applied to our accounts on several occasions, which had to be corrected. RC have a two tier passenger policy were the Sky bar was closed to the majority of passengers until 8.30 every evening, even when there were very few people using it. Sun beds closed off for these passengers and rarely used. The Star lounge was closed off in addition to the sky bar, one evening. The knock on affect of this puts strain on others. There was limited seating around the ship which is very poor made worse by these private functions. Entertainment and day time activities were poor or had an additional charge applied which are inclusive with other companies. Other passengers, that holidayed on this ship last year, told us they could see RC had cut back in many areas and were, like us, disappointed and will look elsewhere when booking their next cruise. We chose this cruise because of the Ports of Call. Embarkation was a breeze and we only had about a fifteen minute wait until our cabin was ready. We always do self carry with our luggage, so it's nice when the room is ready straight away. Navigator is a decent sized ship, but this cruise had the most movement of any cruise we've been on. Dining experiences were great in both the main dining room and the Windjammer. We never eat at the specialty restaurants. Daytime entertainment/activities were poor. Very little going on around the pool in way of organized activities, live music, dancing, etc. They have a huge big screen TV that played Chive TV all day and a movie at night. Night time entertainment was mediocre. We saw a couple of good comedians, the ice skating show was pretty good, and battle of the sexes game was fun. Disembarkation processes for shore excursions and final disembarkation were very disorganized, but the excursions themselves were awesome! We'd love to stay loyal to RCL, but we may sail with a different line next time. This was our fifth cruise with RCL and we feel the service and attention on the smaller ships has decreased since the mega ships have started sailing. Read Less

5 days (Bahamas & Cozumel) THE GOOD: I can't say enough good things about the staff, they were great. Helpful, friendly, courteous, and great at what they do. The ship activities are decent enough, but there probably are not enough for the amount of people on board. The food was pretty good (with one exception), we ate at every location (minus Izumi). There were a couple items at each location that were really good. THE BAD: Expect to get bombarded every turn about buying something, even if you already did. Purchased a couples massage only to get "harassed" about buying product after the massage. Purchased the 5 night dining package only to get "harassed" about buying the dining package. Extra fees, extra fees, extra fees. Even after paying for the tips in advance, expect to get blindsided by extra fees that aren't mentioned anywhere prior to the cruise. Room service? oh yeah, but it's $8 each time, and while most foods are included there are some that are only available for an extra fee (lobster, some steak items). Flow rider? great but it's only available for maybe about 4 hours each day, and if you pre-booked something, or are at a scheduled lunch? tough luck. Need a late night snack? OR couldn't make the assigned dining times? Only one other place to eat (open 24 hours) and the food was either bad sandwiches, or semi-warm gas station pizza. It was by far the worst food on the ship. THE UGLY: Worst bed I've ever slept on, hard as a rock. For all the marketing and sales pitches they throw at you for Cariloha you would expect them to have their mattresses and sheets in the room. You wanna sell a product let me sleep on it and try it out. Golfing simulator was broken the entire trip. Rooms aren't as "clean" as they should be, not dirty, but not clean. Internet was pathetic. It would work, then not work, then be great, then horrible. Expect the pools to be overcrowded, they are way to small for the number of people on board. Excursion was nice, until we get there and aren't allowed to take any pictures of video (even though the description said different). You have to purchase whatever the excursion took (only another $120). OVERALL: This was our first cruise. It was decent. Will we cruise again? Probably, but I'm just not sold on Royal Caribbean being our choice. We have 4 kids from 10-18, they didn't come this time, and I'm pretty sure they would have been bored after day 3. The constant sales pitches turned a needed vacation into a "I'm tired of hearing about anything you have to offer." Read Less

This ship was a very nice ship. The room steward we had was excellent had an animal towel every night and ice in my bucked as I had asked for in the beginning of cruise. Our head waiter tried had but was to far from the kitchen was very slow getting our food to us. Or assistant waitress was very forgetful I had asked for my milk to be delivered for my meals and she continuously forgot.
