We needed a holiday where one of us would absorb the sun, one could explore the various cities and the 9 year old child would not be bored. All boxes were ticked. After years of being frustrated at airports and seeing and doing the same old things on package holidays, we've finally found the perfect way to holiday. If anybody tells you that it's too expensive, just remind them you get what you pay for. From the minute we stepped out of the car at Southampton we were treated with courtesy, respect and efficiency. Within 1 hour we were sat in the Schooner bar with our first drinks. Worryingly i was called to Guest Services within the hour to ask me to inspect one of our cases for an unidentifiable item. Fear not, when i realised what they had found on the x-ray machine i was more than impressed of the security measures in place. The interior cabin was not over-sized but was sufficient for 2 adults and 2 children. We slept, showered and dressed in it. If you want to see the open sea, you will have enough opportunities on deck. Also there is enough room for storage if done correctly. We did the 'My time dining', which was ideal if the child/ren are in their respective clubs although he did attend once with us, under protest. The windjammer cafe has everything you would wish for and more if you want to be totally relaxed. The daily itinerary or/and entertainment was unbelievable and catered for absolutely everyone. I attended art auctions, lectures, quizzes and the belly flop championships to name but a few.The evening shows in the theatre were exceptional, from family entertainment to adult humour. The service we received from everyone was explicable, they could not do enough for you. The gratuities were cancelled on day one, as recommended by seasoned cruisers, and the state room attendant, favourite bar staff and favourite waiter were tipped handsomely at the end of the cruise. As mentioned initially, the wife stayed on board whilst i visited all the ports. As it was our 1st cruise we didn't book any shore excursions but in future i would book particular ones which suit. Although i feel a little expensive for families they are allegedly well organised. We did hear that on this particular cruise, some people were saying 'there were too many kids on board'. For goodness sake, kids make holidays and if those people want none or fewer children, book in school term time and go with P&O or Cunard with an elderly contingent. I will finish by saying that my wife and 9 year old child had an amazing time and have booked again already for next year ;-). Read Less

Everything about the cruise was outstanding. Food was delicious with a large variety of choices. and Rosebeth and Rey, (Sapphire restaurant) who served us were friendly, polite and very informative about the ports of call. They made a great effort with our children and even prepared foods off the menu to cater for their needs. Entertainment was 1st class and my 2 children aged 14 and 16 had a great time and made many friends, due to the first night teenage meeting group. There was plenty of room on the sundecks, for either shade or sun. The gym had a large variety of equipment, which my husband and son enjoyed using every other day. The cities visited were interesting for all, whether you wanted to see historical sites, beaches or just for shopping. All staff couldn't do enough for you. I'd just like to mention Cuddy's meditation class - absolutely brilliant - both my husband and I have really benefited from this seminar. I can't wait until our next cruise. Read Less

Southampton sailing and liked the overnight in palma. Not sure whether we would sail again from Southampton due to poor weather on return. What a shame that Rci have now resorted to the cheapest form of entertainment in one of the better lounges , that being karaoke, particularly on most nights. No problem occasionally. Lounges on this ship were not distinctive and entertainment dated and mediocre at best. Who the wine bar was aimed at I could not decipher as the wine bars I patronise are usually sophisticated and furnished accordingly not with dark cheap wooden tables and chairs with absolutely no atmosphere. The dining experience, however still manages to hang on to excellence in its service, presentation and food. Having cruised many times before I feel this ship tried to cover too big a distance. This often led to it being uncomfortable on deck due to ships speed. Please review itineraries. Customers on this type of cruise want to sunbathe and go ashore often. Read Less

We like the food. Their provision for various diets was excellent. We are particularly interested in gluten free food and their provision was outstanding. There are a lot of various activities and theatre shows were outstanding. We did go on 2 excretions and they were both well organised and very good. We ate at the Windjammer all the time. Our daughter, husband and their 2 children also came on the same cruise and it was very nice to be together. We went to all the theatre shows which were a mixture of singing, dancing and comedy. They were all 1st class. We also watched the ice skating show which was excellent. The children went on different activities including rock climbing which they enjoyed. The stateroom attendant was very good and efficient. He used the towels to create miniature animals (monkey etc.) and leave in the room. The cabin was tidied up and cleaned twice a day. All in all it was probably the best holiday we had. Read Less

I find every time I cruise with Royal Caribbean my holiday really feels like a holiday and not one which you need a rest after like some I have had , the staff always try and do as much as they can for you and with a smile , food is always plentiful and varied and if you decide to dine on a formal night you can expect a grand evening feeling like you are part of something very special that no other holiday can provide , and when you are walking the evening meal off on the external promenade watching dolphins swim by you will wish it could go on forever . staff on board are fantastic . shows and entertainment are amazing . We went on a RC shore excursion to Rome via a very plush private train and had a great day seeing the coliseum , Trevi fountain , Spanish steps and the Vatican. my only negative is the Navigator is starting to show it's age a bit with some poor maintenance mainly externally, . We try not to fly much now so love to cruise out of Southampton, we love the rewards of the points system, and the friendliness of all the crew, the fab food, not having to do housework. All of this is taken care of with a passion. Our concierge lounge is great, although not big enough and feels a bit like a cupboard. Nadja Durdevic was an exceptional lady concierge and very helpful and dealt with any queries right away, even when she received bad news of her son, she carried on with her job. The 2 bartenders, Vincy and Praveen Babu were excellent too.So professional. In the Sapphire lounge, our head waiter Naji was very efficient and friendly also Manuel who assisted. In Chops Grille, Rogel is the only waiter there from last year, and he was excellent too. All your staff/crew have been so great where ever we were on the ship.Well done on recruting such a wonderful team. Read Less

Chose this cruise based on ports of call. Prices for lots of things increased from just last year: bottled water delivered to cabin; cost for room service; prices for alcoholic beverages and sundry items (DayQuil cough suppresant) was outright gouging. Price charged by RCI for transport from airport to Southampton port was too high: $101/pp one way. Production shows ranged from merely adequate to outstanding. All of Captain's commentary was translated to SPANISH. Why? The cruise departed Southampton, probably 85% of the guests were from the British Isles. How many English residents speak only Spanish? How many Spanish-speaking guests were aboard, who spoke no English at all? Two days in St. Petersburg was great; Helsinki was a disappointment. Only thing there is the Sibelius Park and the Rock Church. Maybe should have had a port of call in Sweden instead. Just need a couple more nights to achieve next C&A status. But probably will consider cruising with another cruise line in the future. Read Less

Weather chillier than expected on a couple of days, but who noticed, there is so much to do on this ship that you can never get bored! Love the Promenade, great party nights for 4th July and Brit night plus the Circus Parade on the last evening! Superb entertainment from the cruise shows to invited singers, illusionist and comedians, C and W music in the pub, classical trio, band music, guitarist, pianist and the Navigator orchestra plus the disco! The best organisation in any buffet at sea - never a problem or a queue, only delays were caused by the guests staying in their seats after they had finished - never had to wait in line for anything including freshly cooked omelette- so streamlined, it was perfect! Good and varied food in the restaurant with great waiters! The only drawback on this cruise was that some docks were a long way from the stated cities and there was a steep charge for a shuttle to town - sometimes $20 per person. If the port states a city I think the cruise should take you there! Our promenade view cabin was fine, clean and comfortable bed,but looking a little tired - maybe due for a refurb soon? All public areas were spotless and sparkling in spite of all the glass and mirrors I never saw a dirty smudge anywhere! The cruise excursions were pricey, as usual, we preferred to book privately with T J Tours in St.Petersburg and saw twice the sights for half the price, most other ports we made our own arrangements or shared a taxi. Would definitely recommend the Navigator of the Sea to anyone and hope to travel on her again one day! Read Less

Easy parking in Southampton near the ship, luggage collected and sent to Stateroom, very easy transit to onboard ship. The Stateroom was great, 8th floor, the whole ship was wonderful, "The Two Poets" bar could have been bigger, with more seating as it was always full ! The food on board was better than excellent, served with first rate friendly waiters, in fact all the staff were excellent a credit to RC. The shows and ice show where excellent a great experience! There is never a dull moment, with loads of onboard things to do. RC organised trip on shore were well organised and Guides very informative fantastic! On the other hand, once on board waiting for our Stateroom we where pounced on by staff trying to sell us meals in other restaurants- only been on the ship five minutes! The price of WiFi if you need it is so expensive! We paid £112 each upfront for gratuities but with the well over priced drinks that incurred an extra 18% on top, a single photograph was nearly $20 each! Wilst we had a fantastic time and glad we went, but felt as many others who have been on RC ships before felt the same, I know they need to make money, but they spoil it with there prices! Our next cruise we will need to look elsewhere and compare each merit. Read Less

The sad part about this cruise was we always wanted a stopover in a port but in St Petersburg we could only get off if you had a visa or an organised tour it would have been so good to have had the stopover at another port of call to have the freedom. We choose this cruise for the itinerary though if we had taken the ships excursions we would have double the cost of the cruise. Small penny pinching things seemed to be a general complaint that spoiled peoples experience. Such has no coffee in the rooms the high price of drinks, so many people just drinking water, strong coffee had to be bought as an extra with a long queues. Many of the areas quickly ran out of seats. The room was fine though sometimes cold, the shower water was hot. In general the shows were poor. Dinning was fine and the specialty restaurants were good. Every one you spoke to seemed to have paid a different price for this cruise, it seems a mine field to get through has to how when or whom to use when booking these holidays. Its quiet easy to pay twice the amount has the person sitting next to you. Read Less

Our 5th Cruise with RCI, was a little concerned after reading the reviews previous to our Cruise. Glad I took them with a pinch of salt. The Navigator is a lovely ship. Spotless clean. Saw hand rails being cleaned all the time. Can honestly say these were the best Staff we have encountered. All the bar staff were friendly and very efficient. All drinks on the package were great from the cocktails to the coffees. The dining room staff on deck 5 my time dining were brilliant. The lovely friendly lady at the entrance managed to get us the same table most nights with John & Komang who were great. They really looked after us . All the food we had was good both in dining room & windjammer. We had a meal in Giovanni s one night which was delicious & well worth the fee. There were advertisements for dining and drinks packages but not once were we approached by staff to buy these. The entertainment was brilliant. Darren Day & Lauren Broad were superb as were the comedians and other shows. Ice show is a must see, had several performances so everyone gets a chance to see it. Entertainment team did a great job with the quizzes etc with most people being indoors due to the weather on sea days. Only criticism really would be to have them in the Star lounge as it's much bigger. The dancing lessons were good but ought to be in a bigger venue too. The disco in the Cosmopolitan Club is the best we have seen on any Cruise. The DJ was fab & it was full every night with all ages. The Itinerary was amazing. We did all the Ports by ourselves making full use of HOHO buses to get around. Russia was the highlight though. We did the 2 day Grande Tour with Alla Tours. The guide Dimitri was brilliant. He was so knowledgeable. We saw some unforgettable sites, we were taken to a wonderful Hotel for a 3 course meal with wine on the 1st day and had a packed lunch on the 2nd day. Even the rain didn't spoil it for us. The Cruise compass was very informative explaining how to get around at all the Ports and the map they provide is very useful. Bruges was the only Port that there was a bit of chaos. There is a free shuttle to the gates but you are better off getting one of the many buses lined up waiting at the Ship into the Centre for €20 return. We only took Euros as currency as most places accepted it or used our Credit Card especially in Russia. Even used it in the gift shop there. The buses take CC as payment also. My hubby even swiped it to use the toilet in Norway. Overall we had a thoroughly enjoyable Cruise and would definitely recommend RCI NOTS Read Less

Mainly to see Russia and Baltic countries found Estonia wonderful,Russian shore excursions to peterhof palace and hermitage to rushed not able to really take in art or rooms because you are herded like cattle no time to get refreshments or buy from souvenir stalls and they had no ventilation and you were drained at end of tour. Cophenhargen the shuttle bus drivers on 2 of the buses had no idea were the drop of point was and got lost were stuck on bus for over hour and half did not know how to turn of bus heating in end we were told to get of bus and find drop off point ourselves as the 2 buses had got stuck and caused traffic jam police told us were to go. All other destinations were really nice. At beginning of cruise we had booked with virgin my time dinning at 6pm and had said my wife had special dietary needs because of her Barrett's osphagus.when we went to dinning room we were told we were on the buffet at 5.30pm and that was that even though I had the paper work from virgin saying we were correct and we had to have a big argument we were all ready to leave cruise until a manager came over and finally got it sorted and they blamed virgin for it yet I had paper work to prove it was royal carribeans fault. Apart from that the the rest of the cruise was excellent. Read Less

I booked 2 rooms one for us and another couple friend. This was their 1st time on a cruise so they loved it however it was our 5th but 1st time with Royal C. I found ship very small compare to others and very crowded on a sea day. Always struggling to find space to sit near the bar area when there is nothing else going on. Also hard work finding seats up in the Windjammer at anytime. Food in the dinning hall was very poor quality and tasteless though the head person who was looking after our table was trying his best but the chef's compare to WindJammers were not good with our requests and 3 of us were vegetarians. Finally we decided to just eat in Windjammer. Also they closed at 9pm which was too early as lots of people use to get there after the 1 show and people who want to see the 2 show were also trying to eat there as it would close before the 2nd show finished. Some waiters were friendly and others not, as they struggled with speaking English. Our room was on the 9th floor 9660 which was right opposite the stairs for service and so bringing luggage or taking luggage or any other time we use to hear lots of noises at odd hours. Entertainment was good but then other cruise liners were also good. We had all inclusive drinks package so that was good but even then from 4th day they did not have mint or sometimes lemon or certain beers and asked us to go to another bar which kept our choice. Oh and on the 10th day we found out from another passenger that we could order special request food at Windjammer which was really nice but this should have been told by the dinning hall people from the 1st day when they knew 3 out of 4 in our party were vegetarian. Immigration for St Petersburg was very long and took forever. We left our ship at 11.30 since we were queuing from 8.30am !! But it was worth it and our guide was very good English speaking and recovered the lost time and finished late. I would go on this cruise again only if there is a very good deal otherwise if I had to pay the same money then I would go on other cruise liner. Read Less

The ship was impressive huge but easy to find your way about. Entertainment was absolute rubbish. Highlight of week was Bobby Davao we walked out. He spent all his time insulting people, it seems a trend, we had three so called comedians all did same. The dance group was ok, but only appeared three times in 11 nights. Food was exceptional windjammer busy but still good we always got a table, the Sapphire was wow service always good to excellent The room larger than we have had comfy no complaints in any shape or form, credit to staff The service desk was less than helpful, my wife lost her passport coming aboard in Russia, they just said go to bed sleep on it, really could you? The security people were great turned the place upside down found it, Watch out for the drinks packages sp and up make sure you get up Now the worst part, pay pay pay and then pay again I wanted 4 a batteries for camera, no shop on board sold them, I could get rechargeable ones for 59 dollars including charger I Finland I got 4 for 4 euroes All e shops sold expensive and I mean expensive stuff, no place to go to say a razor The tours, use the hop on hop off busses well worth it but make sure in Helsinki you have plenty of time traffic is really bad had us worried we wouldn't make it back Tour organisation is bit amerterish, we went to ballet had to stand for half an hour waiting for busses dam cold The ship shakes and shivers in anything but calm, had to stay up all night with her as she was seasick, they showed films on the big screen outside at night , we we in the Baltic for heavens sake. We mainly went to see St Petersburg, but the other ports of call were also interesting. We did not look around Southampton as we've been there several times. The embarkation and disembarking were smooth and speedy, we were very impressed, hardly any waiting around involved. The ship seemed a little dark decoration-wise, a lot of dark wood everywhere. The dining experience was fine but not brilliant, the staff are all friendly, courteous and efficient, but the menus were not varied and exciting enough, compared to P&O or Princess. The entertainment was very good and varied, something for everyone. St Petersburg did not disappoint - so much gold everywhere in their palaces and cathedrals, it was wonderful to see. Our guide was very impressive with her knowledge of her home city, but far too much walking involved in the 2 day tour. Luckily I had one sunny day, but on the rainy day we walked round a beautiful park for 2 and a bit hours getting soaked. And be warned it is one of those cities with toilets incapable of flushing toilet tissue. A good holiday I recommend it. Read Less

this was our first cruise, we found the ship to be very clean and the staff very pleasant, the food both in the windjammer and main dining room was excellent, but I would suggest getting a table 1st for the windjammer and sorting out where your food types are before loading your plates as by the time you find a table which is not occupied your food tends to be cold. there is loads to do for families but not a lot early in the mornings unless you like lounging around the pool, also a lot of the attractions, flow rider, climbing wall and ice rink were not open much, no reason was given and we weren't told before our cruise, but this did not affect us as we are middle aged and preferred a quieter cruise anyway. families with children will love the ship. the only fault we found was there was not enough time in Lisbon but loads of time in the 2 other ports this information was not available to us both before we booked and when we boarded which for us as middle aged people meant we didn't have much to do in vigo or le havre as walking far from the ship can be a bit hilly unless of course you decide to pay for a shore excursion., so as a result we cut our shore trips short and enjoyed a quieter ship. the information supplied for the ports was vague unless you attended the seminar the night before in one of the bars the main problem we found was that there was not enough seating throughout the ship which tended to mean we spent a lot of time going to different bars and shows etc a lot earlier than we would normally do just to make sure we got a seat, bit frustrating really. overall though we would still go on this cruise again irrespective of the couple of minor points and seating issue which did not appeal to us. I usually feel the product delivered by RCI to be consistent and usually above average.I found one member of staff on this ship who actually smiled and engaged with me. Most members of staff, especially the bar staff, seemed miserable and lacking in any desire to serve. Usually I look forward to dinner in the main dining room but our waitress was so grumpy I felt like I was an inconvenience to her. I appreciate this ship is one of the older vessels and that it does not make financial sense to invest money in it now but there were obvious signs (literally the metropolis theatre sign was missing two letters) that this ship needed some attention. Bad smells, poor air conditioning in our room, wardrobe door hanging off. I am sure you are aware that some of the older ships do not get the investment that the newer ones do and I also see that that is reflected in the price but it felt at times that the basics were missing. I had such a wonderful time on the independence last october and that is also one of the older vessels so I know that it can be achieved. The good time I had on that ship was largely down to the wonderful staff we had ( CD Jamie fentiman and AM katy McCullagh were exceptional) I felt the CD on the navigator cuddy cuddleson and his activities manager mark? were not up to the standard I have experienced before such as the aforementioned jamie fentiman and also joff eaton who is always exceptional. I also had a CD called Mercedes a few years ago and she was wonderful as well. I really could go on and on about all the things on the Navigator that I feel are substandard but I really do not have the time, I love RCI and will continue to cruise with them but I feel I will avoid the older ships as I don't think the effort is put in there. We were not bored at all as there was something constantly going on throughout the day. The theatre shows were entertaining especially Gareth Oliver and his wife, ventriloquists with a difference! Very funny and so quick witted. Hilary O'Neil and the Beatles Celebration were excellent entertainment also. Embarking and disembarking was so slick and hassle-free. The main restaurant served daily specials with a core menu of regular choices, all to a good standard, and the Windjammer at lunchtime offered around a dozen choices from the buffet including a daily carvery, Indian selections, Chinese, pasta, as well as various casseroles/pies. There was a good selection of salads as well. If we chose something that wasn't to our taste, then we got something else, and ate well. Service was exceptional. Staff were friendly, and quick. Wine came quickly, and with a smile, and nothing was too much trouble. There was a comprehensive entertainment programme which we enjoyed. Again, if we weren't enjoying something we left. There was always something to do. We avoided the excursions but went ashore under our own steam - particularly enjoyable were Cadiz, Malaga, and Avaccio. Cabin was roomy, clean and the shower was excellent. A great choice of bars Disembarkation was smooth and painless, we left the cases out on the last night, and walked off without any delay, where they were easy to find. From ship to car in 30 minutes, and then the drive home. I take the view that you get out what you put in - looking at some of the other reviews makes me sad for the people who wrote them Beware the moaners - they will suck the life out of you if you let them. I guess being miserable and wanting to share it is a lifestyle choice for some people but don't let them ruin your holiday or affect your choices. This was a great experience, and one we highly recommend. Read Less

Value for money was the reason for booking with RC. The crew are the main asset of the company. RC have let themselves down by constantly looking for ways of extracting money from you with items grossly over priced and items charged for when inclusive with other companies. We had an all inclusive drinks package which you had to pay for water. Fragrance was tax free yet still twice the price of Boots stores. Incorrect charges were applied to our accounts on several occasions, which had to be corrected. RC have a two tier passenger policy were the Sky bar was closed to the majority of passengers until 8.30 every evening, even when there were very few people using it. Sun beds closed off for these passengers and rarely used. The Star lounge was closed off in addition to the sky bar, one evening. The knock on affect of this puts strain on others. There was limited seating around the ship which is very poor made worse by these private functions. Entertainment and day time activities were poor or had an additional charge applied which are inclusive with other companies. Other passengers, that holidayed on this ship last year, told us they could see RC had cut back in many areas and were, like us, disappointed and will look elsewhere when booking their next cruise.
