My family of four sailed in July out of Genoa. Embarking was easy and fast. Ship was beautiful, Immaculate , and easy to navigate. The staff were very friendly and courteous, the waiters were fantastic, our room steward was awesome , every employee on this ship was great . The food was good , there are more restaurants that you pay extra for than are included . I didn’t like the fact that you couldn’t get ice cream anywhere unless you paid extra . I think MSC nickel and dimes too much, too many fees for anything extra . There was enough food where you didn’t have to buy anything extra . The ship was crowded but we always found a table for breakfast and lunch at the buffet . We ate dinner In the dining room every night and the food was very good and had enough variety. We booked the fun pass for the kids online before we left and it was a good deal for $120 you were able to spend 180 euros on games in the game room , the card lasted for both kids for the entire cruise , they also had basketball and soccer but the basketball hoop was broken the first 5 days of our cruise so it was mostly soccer . I also booked the laundry package for $48 they washed 40 items of clothing and if you booked online you can give them a few pieces a day until you added up to the 40 items I didn’t have to have it done all together which was nice because I was able to bring less clothes . The WiFi package was good too I had no issues the speed was fine and it worked well I purchased the unlimited plan and my family toggled back and forth using it and it worked well. I also purchased the cirque show which I really think should have been Included in the cruise fare , very cheesy to charge for a show , the show wasn’t that good it was just ok , my 14 year old fell asleep during it and my 16 year old was bored . The drinks that were included in the ticket were awful you don’t get to choose your drink they had two choices of drinks that were sitting on a bar when you walked In and they were not good , they didn’t even have soda for the kids they were given virgin mojitos. The other shows on board that were included were good and you can book them on the screens around the ship with your room key , very easy and all the shows were available and we booked them the same day . We booked a family room which was two rooms that connected and our balconies connected too , this was a great choice as we had lots of room and having two bathrooms were convenient. We booked shore excursions with the ship and they were good , I was very happy with them . I’ve cruised RCL, NCL, Disney and MSC Fantasia in the past , I do like MSC they do Nickel and dime you with all the extra charges I feel they should include more with the cruise fare but overall I would recommend the Bellisima, the pools were nice crowded especially on sea day but that is expected . The staff were wonderful , they work very hard and have to serve thousands of people with a smile every day I give them a lot of credit . The ports were amazing , I chose this ship because of the ports . We flew into Milan and took the FlixBus to Genoa the bus station is 2 blocks from the port which made the return very convenient. I would definitely book MSC again . Read Less

Our first ever cruise with the family on MSC Bellissima. All 4 of us (two teen boys) gave it 10/10. We could not fault anything. We had a balcony room and it was spotless, as was the entire ship. Food was really good and the staff are really amazing, despite working long hours, etc. Always a smile on their faces. Malta was the highlight of the cruise, we will definitely return there. Francesco & Leonalla in The Masters of the Sea bar were very attentive and deserve a special mention, they go out of their way to bring a smile to your face and entertain you, as was Gabriella and the Cuban guy in restaurant Posidena. Even though there was probably 4-5K passengers on board, it never felt over crowded and disembarking was smooth and efficient. We had a week in Sorrento afterwards but i think in future, i will stay first and cruise second, as you have far more choice of food on the ship. We ate in one of the speciality restaurants The Butchers Cut and the steaks and desserts did not disappoint, food and wine really good. The gym was a good size and boys also liked the indoor airconditioned multi sports hall. Really enjoyed the whole experience, MSC provided a superior service and will cruise again in the future. My wife and I have had a very memorable cruise on Explorer2. Balcony cabin deck 9 just perfect and reasonable size with a very efficient steward. Food was of a good standard both in the MDR and Vista, we ate mainly in Vista. Breakfast and Lunch was taken in Market Place, again everything you could possibly want. The many bars we used had friendly and more than attentive staff. The entertainment in Broadway Show Lounge was good, without being perfect, most of the shows very much the same, apart from a couple of very good nights. The ports of call, the reason we chose this cruise, were very good and met our expectations. Days at sea a little chaotic, the usual fight for sunbeds, but we got by ok. The only downside was embarkation, a total nightmare - we will not be using Naples Airport every again. Not sure if TUI read these reviews but the dress code needs a thorough shakeup, Shorts and trainers in MDR and Vista, sorry but not acceptable, if they wish to dress this way then the Market Place is the place for them. All in all a very enjoyable two weeks on the Explorer2 Read Less

been with marella before, not the biggest ships but some value as the basic drinks package is in with the price, entertainment was good and the food is good, but not the italian restuarant the vote is out on that, but Norras paizza place excellent, although they say referb ship only in the public areas cabins not only bathrooms the food is good and lots of places to eat from lots of choice, thae speciality restaurants are also very good the standard drinks package is excellent but they dont do banana banches on explorer 1 or 2 as they do on discovery, you can upgrade the drinks package if you like, entertainment i the main showroom is very good and varried, however on deck its the normal entertainment as on all ships no maps or info given out for your destination of the day wich is not very helpfull, they say look at the screen as this is saving papper, but seem to deliver plenty of crap in flyers to your cabin every day to sell you things. the flight to and from Naples (nighmare)on arriving half a mile walk along streets to the coaches, plus 1 broken wheel from flight on returning 2and a half hour delay while sitting on plane waiting for luggage to be loaded, only 1 small glass of water from tui, arrive gatewick 2 hrs 45 mins late another brocken wheel and zipper riped on case, I would use marella again but never NAPLES AVOID,but it would be about itinery first, the suites on board marella 2 i would not call suites at all just lager balcony cabins Read Less

this was chose for the places to visit that we liked to go to. Firstly can i point out that this ship is a New to Marella cruises and not a Brand new ship as some say and was never listed as a Brand new ship. Anyway on to the review , The flight was good and on time , on arrival at Naples airport we were at the far end of the airport to get off the flight the transfer buses were slow in arriving and on arrival in the airport we had to wait close on an hour for our luggage .one all luggage collected we were then pointed to were we had to get the transfer bus to the ship , this was a long walk not really suitable for the elderly or those not good on their feet. we were then directed to the transfer bus and told by a rep that we could not go straight to the ship as the was a hold up and we would be taken to have some food and drink in Naples , we settled down to pizzas and wine and was taken care of very well. eventually after a few hours the rep came and collected us and we made our way to the port . when we arrived it was total chaos no one was able to go on board as the Naples authority would not let on due to an outbreak of Neurovirus onboard from the last cruise. Communication was poor throughout the wait and very little place to sit until much later when they opened a conference lounge for people. Eventually about 7.00 pm we were allowed onboard and able to go to our cabin where the luggage was waiting for us. The pools and the hot tubs were closed for the first week The staff were very helpful even though their work load increased with having to serve passengers buffet food and drinks the first week Hand sanitisers were everywhere and the majority of passengers did use them but not everyone .( this is why viruses are spread ) We enjoyed the food in all of the eating places we visited Our favourite restaurant was Vista . Least favourite was Nonnas which was pizza and pasta that you picked yourself and was prepared from your order The snack shack for poolside snacks very good food ,and enjoyed the inclusive drinks. The broadway shows were varied and really good. Comedian was great as was the silent disco ( a must for everyone to see ) The Squid and Anchor pub held all different activities , Flutes was really good for pre dinner drinks .Plenty of activity onboard throughout the day and evening at the different venues depending on your tastes. We thought that the cruise line was penny pinching a bit this time . This being a new ship to them we expected better, quite Disappointing that they no longer give out any maps and information sheets for any of the ports. or daily news sheets. The reason given was t they wished to save paper. on the first week the weather was mixed with some of our finest British rain. Venice in the rain was not quite the same as last time. We had a medical emergency and had to turn round and head for land which was a total of 6 hours altogether. all in all the cruise was very good and made better by the group we met right at the beginning when taken for our food. Many thanks to all the crew onboard for their efforts to make us all welcome under this difficult situation. This was our 16th cruise with this cruise line and will still sail with them again. Sat on floor as little seating in Naples port for over 5 hours with approx 1000 people. Rolls and water far between if can run and get them. As a pensioner with arthritis i couldn’t so a lady bought me chocolate at shop as starving . Very little information. Told ship being deep cleaned as noro virus onboard although passengers There from previous cruise. Onboard ship found it extremely cold in all areas. Air vents blowing cold air even though unusually cold in Italy. Cabin thermostat not working . Other people saying same. Only felt warmer second week in Greece when weather warmer. Still had cold areas though. Woken 08.40 first morning after a very cold night with extremely loud vibrating metal hammering above my cabin. Forty five minutes later c/services sent maintenance man. He phoned someone but didn’t speak. I visited c/service desk , told working on air con and would only last one day. Four days later after same noise, same time plus every afternoon to a degree every day I was distraught from lack of sleep and very upset it finally stopped. I had tatty grubby shower curtain until door fitted on day 12 of cruise. No tv for 4 days then hit and miss. Electrician fitting low level lights on my deck several days, huge cable reel and tools to walk round. Plus huge noisy blowers drying wet carpets in lift areas. Good choice food in buffet but mostly only luke warm, even meat and fish, possible due to very cold temperature in ship. On positive side. Crew were wonderful, friendly ,nothing too much trouble. Shows brilliant. Lattitude 53 restaurant lovely service and food. I paid a lot of money for this cruise and am bitterly disappointed and upset that marella would treat its passengers this way. Where to start? Embarkation and disembarkation were fairly smooth. No wow factor when boarding. Our cabin was fairly comfortable, but there was a lack of storage. Zoe, which was touted as the new best personal assistant was a waste of time. Didn't work once. We wasted far more time than necessary trying, unsuccessfuly, to get the system to change to English. Bed was comfortable. Food was average but avoid the buffet. Too many people fighting to get in first. There was very little entertainment, and what there was proved to be very poor. Activities were very poor unless you were willing to pay extra for them. MSC could learn from other cruise companies. Not what you expect from a cruise when you book it. Everything except for specialty dining should be included for the cost. We have now cruised with MSC twice. The first cruise was extremely bad, but we decided to give it another go as we had spoken to other people who said that our first experience was not up to the usual standard. That, coupled with the allure of a brand new ship, persuaded us to give this cruise a go. We will not be going for "third time lucky". Read Less

We have sailed on the Seaside two previous times and had very good experiences. This time, things certainly changed ! Dining room dinners were substandard for sure, although our dining room staff were very nice and did a good job, doesn't make up for the food. Terrible selections and poor quality of entrees, the specialty restaurants were nothing short of perfect. We should not have to pay to get a good meal, even their pizza was terrible !at the buffet which we always enjoy. We got better pizza in Ocho Rios ! The bar staff was over burdened and apparently getting an olive for a Martini is a stretch ! They do a great meet and great and have done we enjoyed them on Seaside before. The rooms are small but we knew that from previous cruises on Seaside. Would I be going again on the Seaside, right now I need a rest from MSC !! Read Less

I have a child and this cruise offered interesting places, at the right time, offering a kids club.. While the rooms were clean and neat and the food ok, the real downside was our noisy cabin right above a night club disco. They were unable to move anyone and as the bass was so strong and volume so loud I tried to have the music level lowered. There was lip service paid to my complaint, however on the second night I did have an ‘audience’ with the cruise customer service manager. For that night only the music was turned down. Then the next night up again. While asking numerous times to turn it down, this did not happen. Spoilt the cruise for me entirely... ‘yes madam’ ‘yes’ and then not being heard. My child had a great time with the lovely staff at mini club. Internet service was poor. I paid a lot of money for premium internet but audio and video were not available. It ran out quickly and the fine print tells you to stop it if you don’t want your allowance to run out. Then when it didn’t work again I was pressured into paying for more.. ended up costing about 150 euros fir 5 days... felt ripped off... Read Less

Firstly I wished I found this website before i booked!!!! Wow we have been on many a Royal Caribbean cruises in the past, but we booked this after watching a very luxurious video on MSC website. We thought that this was going to be opelent, luxurious, classy and extravagant cruise seeing as that's what the video to us. Having paid alot more then we usually would, treating ourself to a jacuzzi room and we were told drinks were all in we were so excited. We were wrong our cruise company got it wrong apparently we didn't have the deluxe package for drinks of course that's started us off badly having to pay the extra €198 each. That way my husband could have a better choice of beers and I could have more options of cocktails and s baileys. What a disapointmet, yes the ship is beautiful but lacking what in my book is no1 customer service. We have never felt so unwelcome alone and miserable by the way we were treated on this ship we my husband and I couldn't wait to get off. All the staff were miserable no one would look at you or ask if you needed anything or help. There was never a good morning or evening nothing. No one is ever made to wash their hands when going into the restaurants,it's disgusting no wonder theses ships get poorly. It's a health risk. This is a must why do they no take this on. Royal Caribbean make everyone who enters resturaunts to wash their hands someone stands there. The food was boring every night in the dining room, the same food just a different flavour. The 4 nights we did eat here at golden sands we waited over 2 hours for 2 courses. Seeing as it was all luke warm or cold and waited so long we did the buffet a couple of nights this wasn't much better pizza and chips.....again samey every night too. We had a rude waiter when we asked once if someone could clear our plates because they had been sat there for half an hour we were told no... I thought he was joking actually he wasn't. I have never in all the cruises I have been on have such bad attitude, rude argumentative, unapproachable customer service like it. Including receptionist, waiting staff, bar staff pool attendants every one was the same... what is that about? why is everybody the same. It made us feel awful, the boat had no life or soul no happiness no life. Do not get excited about the formal night, was a waste of me taking my long dresses. Because actually they called it elegant night, I understand not everybody wants to get dressed up but my husband and I changed twice because thier elegant night was trainers, shorts, flipflops baseball caps and t shirts in the main dining. We were all sat so close to one another, we were on laps most of the time. Ice cream were very nice this we enjoyed for our dessert every night seeing as waiting for an ice cream in the restaurant always took 30 minutes and had melted. Except one day at the Panama pool I was put off when I saw hairs in it the coconut ice cream. The 3d simulator the bowling and zip line is at a fee, all other ships are always free when ever we've been on royal Caribbean.... wow you really should try taking your team and trying your competitors for cruising see how they do it The sun loungers are dangerous, as they kept collapsing with people on them. There's so much more to write. The very worse thing about this cruise is that before we went on this, all my family and i stupidly booked a once in a lifetime holiday cruise to Dubai and around the Emirates but it is on the spendida for December 28th. After reading reviews from that ship, on this site its like reading my own all the same thing. The terrible customer service, the awful food, even reading a cleaner using passangers toothbrushes to clean toilets!!!!! Oh my gosh I'm heartbroken as we will all lose the money if we cancel. So we have had to suck it up and still go. Read Less

I had read a lot of bad reviews and was a bit worried if our so much wanted cruise would be as exciting as we anticipated. Yes, it was. Let me first note that we were first time cruisers. Joined Meraviglia from Naples, Italy. The embarkation was a bit frustrating as there were no clear signs where is the drop of luggage section - it appeared to be in the other wing of the port. Then we waited a long line with no seating options. Once we gave our suitcase we were assigned a number which meant we had to spend a few more hours in the waiting area. Of course we used the time to explore out and about, but in general the embarkation was very exhausting experience. Once we got aboard we were met by the kids club staff who put a wristband to our 5yo so he could be easily tracked and signed at different activities. There was no other kind of welcome on board. We had to find our own way to the elevators and cabin. Not that we didn't manage but it was somehow annoying. I don't know how it is organized on the other ships- here we felt a bit like dropped in the deep. Cabin- Apart from that first experience the rest was fantastic. We got newsletters every night so we would know what the schedule for the next day was. the cabin- inside on Deck 13- there was enough room for all 3 of us- 2 Adults 1 child. We had 2 wardrobes, a good size bed, the kid's bunk bed was also a good size- he enjoyed going up and down the ladder. The bathroom was bigger than expected. Very good ventilation system- our swimsuits and small washing dried up very quickly. The TV in the cabin was showing screens from two of the ship's cameras so we felt like we had a window- this was the first thing in the morning- switch on the TV to see where we are. The cabin steward was a nice guy- these people work so hard from dusk to down and even more. We would get up very early in the morning- he's seen in the corridor, going back to the cabin past 10pm- he's still folding towels. One day I pushed the DND button just to give him some rest. The policy of tiding up cabin 2 times a day is a bit too much for me. Dining- We ate dinner 3 times in the restaurant and the rest in the buffet. The restaurant was nice - Olive D'Doro on deck 6. The waiters, the atmosphere, the tables layout- fantastic. The food- delicious but minor portions. Even if you eat lunch at the port, you get back to the ship at around 4:30-5pm (5:30 is all aboard time) so you need some snack to bite. Go up to the buffet- mainly hot dogs and hamburgers. OK wait for dinner, already starving eat a small portion of food and then end up in the buffet again. And actually we enjoyed the buffet food at the proper meals times. Big variety of salads, meat, pasta, bread, vegetables, desserts- everything for everybody. Entertainment- Fantastic shows, we saw 4 shows and Cirque Du Soleil. From the regular shows we enjoyed Way and Paz the most. The kids club is also a very well organized. There's entertainment for the kids all the time. The girls take them not only in the play areas but for some movies down in the theater, for games in the sports zone, there are constantly some activities for the kids. Also there is fun dinner time in the buffet, so you can dine in the restaurant or in the buffet and they will entertain and feed your child. Unfortunately among all the variety of food in the buffet they feed the kids hamburgers and fires - even my 5yo said it's not healthy food and didn't want to eat with them the following days, although he enjoyed the rest of the daily program. We couldn't attend any of the dancing classes, Master Chef or other entertainment as we were too tired from the onshore exploring, but we were very impressed by the variety of activities offered. Even if we had 7 days at sea there would be something new to everyday. The musicians were all fantastic. I can't say a bad word for the entertainment- just fantastic! We were very happy with the pools- all with warm water even the outdoor one. The jacuzzys were also very pleasant (quite packed most of the time though). I only missed a changing room at the pool area. We got a bit cold as we had to walk in wet towels back to the cabin and even though we were inside we could still feel some some air drаught. Service- all in all we were very happy with everybody. Yes, some of the staff seemed tired, but they were never rude. We are please with the interactive info screens and the mobile app. We did not have the need to visit reception. Although the lack of the human touch in communication felt a bit like a 'self-service-luxury'. Ports- we enjoyed all the ports. The only con was in Marseille where the ship docks really far from the center and if you want to use the free port shuttle you have to walk over a kilometer through the windy port, then wait 20 min for the shuttle, then travel over 15min to get to a transport hub. It's so much waste of time. Of course there is a transfer from the ship which is approx Eur12.00 per adult. Having in mind it was 3 of us- we would had to spend more than Eur30.00 just to reach to the city. Drink package- We are not big drinkers so we only bought prepaid vouchers for caffeine drinks and soft drinks. They were absolutely enough. At dinner we bought water from the restaurant (approx Eur3,00 for a 1l bottle). In the buffet there was free water and juice. We ordered a glass of wine once or twice and it was absolutely enough for us. Even if we had a full drinks package I don't know if we'd drink more. There's simply no time for it. In the morning you have free coffee and juice in the buffet, then spend the whole day onshore, get back in the late afternoon, have a refreshing shower and get ready for dinner, then dine, watch a show and eventually spend some more time on the top deck to enjoy the nice breeze and that's all- time for bed. All in all it was a great experience for us. And we would definitely go again! Read Less

The year before our family went on MSC Armonia for our first cruise. The ship was full but it didn't feel crowded and the food wasn't fantastic but we enjoyed it, esp the pizzas. The entertainment was good. Overall we enjoyed it. So when we heard about MSC's new and biggest ship we thought it would be very special and much better than the one we went on so we booked it. We waited for hours to get on board the Meraviglia. It was so disorganised that every 10-15 metres or so a staff would be checking our documents, the same thing that was done 5 times before. We waited for 3-4 hours before getting on board. It was ridiculous. The room was small and cramp. The beddings were inadequate. The duvet they gave us was thick and hot, so we asked for another but we were told that was all they had so we had to use our beach towels as blanket. Even though the ship was brand new, the mattress were sinking in the middle and it was very uncomfortable to sleep on. The room service was poor and the staff generally tried their best to avoid being called: either in the dining room or to make up the rooms. In the dining room there were piles of plates on the table and lots of mess and no one to clear it up. There seemed to be very few staff about and they generally did their best to avoid working which would inundate them. It was really hard to get their attention or even to find one. The worse thing was the food: the buffet opening hours were really limited and there were hardly any food to choose from. It was the same food meals after meals and we felt they simply re-used the leftovers for the next meals. The portions in the restaurants were so tiny that they would have satisfied ants, let alone people. They advertised Cirque De Soleil on sea but they charged a hefty price and the queue was hours long. The only times we had half decent food was in the paid restaurants. The buffets were not fit to serve refugees. We were so glad to get home and was traumatised by the experience and never will we go with any of the MSC fleet again, ever! Read Less

Our previous cruise experiences were with Thomsons, NCL, Carnival and Disney. Ship – fantastic, big, bling and fitted out top quality stuff all over Embarkation /disembarkation – Smooth and efficient as all ports are embark / disembark Food – poor Service levels – high Shows – Cirq du Soleil (extra cost) very good. Others a mixed bag. Lots of music and bands playing at various parts of the ship Ship’s IT infrastructure – SHAMBOLIC The buffet was limited in choice with no premium items or in fact rarely anything other than pasta, pizza, fruit and things like bacon and eggs. Bacon was usual med stuff – 50% fat and essentially a vehicle to hold the cooking fat. Good choice of bread and pastries. Nothing was ever hot in the buffet, not even freshly laid out stuff. Occasionally, they would bring out a small joint and start carving it but it would only serve around 20 people and that would be it. The restaurant was worse than the buffet. Although food was delivered looking stylish, everything was delivered luke warm except some desserts which were cold from the fridge. On the first night one of the options for main course was ‘suckling pig’. It was 30-40 % fat, cold and more like belly pork and just about inedible. Things got little better. Portions were very small too so it seems that they expected you to fill up in the buffet on pizza. By day 2 we were worried that this would be the first cruise we would return from weighing less. On day 4 we decided to try one of the extra cost restaurants – Butchers Cut. This is a steak restaurant and was good (could have been very good but let down but the use of frozen chips – in-excusable in a restaurant which costs £35+ for main course. The food was served hot! As usual everything bought on the ship (which included water in the restaurants) was subject to a 15% service charge. However, the calculated 15% was incorrect when viewed on the TV in the cabin. E.G. wine at 18E = 2.69e service charge (should be 2.70). Another drinks bill for 10.65 showed 15% service charge of 1.61euro (correct value = 1.60). Every calculation of 15% was incorrect. I pictured this on my phone and raised it with customer services who denied it ‘the computer cannot be wrong’ simply dismissing the photos of the TV screen and refusing point blank to discuss it. Every other purchase had the incorrect 15% figure but at the end of the week it tallied ok. I have detailed this point about the 15% service charge because it is typifies a major problem on the ship and one which it’s difficult to understand how MSC are unable to resolve – the IT infrastructure. The ship is IT intensive with monitors all over the place which allow you to book shows and excursions etc. They even have an app for your phone for this but unfortunately the whole system is unreliable. In fact, it’s worse than useless sometimes because often you book things using it (show / excursion etc) and, whilst you will have received confirmation of the booking, when you get to the show they have no knowledge of the reservation. You are NOT booked. Having read about these issue on previous critic of the ship we went prepared for this and pre booked and paid the Cirq shows. Still, we arrived at the door for the performance we had booked and the handheld tablet they use to check you in had no record of our booking so we couldn’t get in – classic example of ‘computer says no’. The check in staff at this point were under siege from several other irate folks with similar issues but, armed with my printed email booking confirmation, I wasn’t going to back down. Tempers got raised and then they went and checked on another computer system which confirmed we HAD booked and paid so we got in. I don’t know about the other folk still at the door arguing however. So, in this case the hand- held device was not synced to the main system or something like. We had further problems trying to book the other shows whilst on the ship. The system would only let me (the party leader) book for shows, not the others in my party. We discussed these things with the waiter in the restaurant who said that the restaurants (which also rely heavily on IT) had also experienced severe problems when the ship launched but things had improved since then. The other shows were a mixed bag. A couple of them featuring the ship’s staff were good but one called ‘hands’ had a bloke casting animal shadows onto a large white screen. This was good for 15 minutes but unfortunately the show lasted 45 and the rest was ‘illusions’ which were clearly aimed at 7-year olds even though the show was on at 10.30pm. Overall, the cruise is aimed at families and there lots of activities going on at various points on the ship which we didn’t try. Don’t pick this ship expecting good food but prob a good choice if you have sports loving kids around 8-14. We were fortunate in that we had privately arranged excursion in most ports otherwise the cruise would have been ruined by IT and food. ** if you want to take alcohol on board to hide the disappointment in the food its worth considering doing this at Barcelona and Valleta. To get onto the cruise ship jetty you go through security by showing your cruise card and then you are confronted with alcohol shops. These can only be accessed by cruisers so presumably would have to close if the ship didn’t allow you on with alcohol. We passed the bags through the scanner no problems. Equally, when you embark on the ship they ask you if you have any bottles – just say NO. Read Less

Dear cruisers, suffering from celiac disease. My children and I are suffering from celiac disease, and because of this, since we have been diagnosed, we only cruise with MSC, as it is the only monitored by the Italian Society for Celiac disease. I have to tell you that although food is great , without any objection, I have to comment on our dissatisfaction. As you just know on all the cruise ships food is available all day long until late night hours. We celiacs are convicted of eating food only in the main restaurant and only 3x daily. Which means that if you leave the boat late for lunch or dinner you stay hungry !!! Since we experienced it two years ago, last year I asked for a new cruiser MSC Meraviglia will the food be available at a particular location throughout the day? Since the response that the MSC gave was positive with enthusiasm we have boooked a new cruise. However, I must say that I was disappointed that everything was the same as on the other ships. I ask staf on board lunch packet for me and my kids , so that we could eat something between lunch and dinner (there is no gluten free food outside the main restaurant) but this was only possible on the day that we had a paid excursion. The worse thing for my kids is walking and smelling pizza , looking ice cream and pancakes and nothing FOR US!!!Otherwise, MSC Meraviglia is really one of the finest cruisers , the entertainment team is the best so far, and the food is outstanding. Why then MSC can not give us at least only a small detail, like an afternoon gluten free snack (fruit , sandwich, cookies, pizza for kids?). We look forward to that day!!! First of all the good news, it s a beautiful ship! Cabins are very nice and quiet. Other positive point is the entertainment team, it s a big team and most of them are really nice, except for the italians...unfortunately, like all the italians on board, they lost their friendly attitude somewhere and they give you the feeling they are far better than the rest of the world. All the negative points : * nobody welcomed us on board, no explanation, we had to find out everything ourselves. * kids club staff very unfriendly * restaurant terribly unfriendly waiter, very slow service and tables are so close to one another that the waiter bumps you like 20 times .. * bar service, same story, slow, and on top of it all...we had an all in package and it happened to me 4 times on a one- week cruise that the drink i ordered was not available. I can assure you, a soft drink can not be the hardest drink to get on board, but one barman discussed with me about it, saying that this is a ship and it s not like on land. I cruised a lot, i never encountered this in any other cruise line. I had to go to another bar to get it....i might as well stayed at home , there i also need to do it myself. * guest service has lines from here to Tokyo. When it was my turn, she picked up the phone 6 times...don t know why ... but the wristwatch we wanted was not available, blablabla. Come back another day was the answer. I did the cruise without wristband cause queing to hear they don t know how to do it, is not really an activity to look forward to. * main pool too busy, and the result of that too dirty. Food, paper...drifting everywhere. * horizon pool and sundeck is to avoid when boat sails out of a harbor. All the soot from the engine flies upon you, clothes are black, skin is black, nothing nice about that.. * another place to avoid is the buffet, unless you want to eat the same pizza, the same ham and the same salad over and over again ... * soft ice..queu is enormous... * parties start at 23.30 or 24.00 at night...really late if you want to do excursions the next day. * ship uses 5 languages to make an announcment...very boring * shore excursions...they don t expect tips and you can tell by the way they act during the excursion, boring, boring, boring .. After sailing with this line, we now know the American lines are 100 % better than this one. If you only find out after 6days that there is a cruise director on board then you did something wrong as cruise director. But then again, he was italian and busy with himself, not with guests... We booked this cruise on 2 aspects, ports of call and being a new ship. We purchased the Aurea package with the focus on my time dining and drink package. We boarded in Naples, what chaos! As they began boarding the Select room packages, the crowd erupted, people fighting and yelling. MSC, did not handle this with any professionalism or organization. Generally ship is a cross in design of RCL/Celebrity ships. However, space to passenger ratio makes common areas and buffet area very busy and congested. Pools always congested and many passengers hogged beds. No clear policy on timelines of unoccupied beds. NOTE, is you have mobilty issues, no doors have automated openers. In common areas especially on open decks, you will need help. In regards to food, it was lacking of options in buffet and MDR menu options could have been better. The food that was offered was good and tasty. Drink options were satisfactory for beverage package. Lots of cocktails included. However dining and bar areas we lacking staff. Dinner sometimes took 2 to 3 hours. Room service was at a surcharge and breakfast was continental options only. Shows where not what I expected. Subpar. We did do Cirque show, that was great. Port debarkation and embarkation was good. Shore Excursion desk was helpful. Be aware some excurtions have long transfer times. In summary, MSC needs to reevaluate staffing and food options to be comparable to RCL or Celebrity etc. Until then, my recommendation is to look at other cruise options unless you are choosing this cruise on the basis of cost, then you must evaluate it on that basis and ignore some of the misses. A group of 30 of us took Costa Diadema this summer and it was by far the worst cruise we have ever been on. We go on a cruise almost every year and this was our horrible experience... -Water glass 1.50, everything had a price even coffee and ice cream -Pool was way too small we would have to fight over chairs every time one of us got up there was not enough chairs for everyone on the cruise -Every worker was rude, not polite -Every day new passengers came on the cruise and everything would close for 1 hour while we are at sea to do a fire drill every single day, you can't even buy water -there was No food on the ship, no food when get back on boat and no buffet for dinner if you are hungry during day you can't eat. Dinning room food was okay service was horrible only way to eat good is to pay 30 euros a night at the other restaurants -My Baby cousin wanted French fries at 6 because she was hungry and they wouldn't give her them because her seat dinning was late even though the fries were already made. -there was No air on ship it was cooler outside -To get on the ship they gave us numbers to be called where we waited one hour when we were supposed to have priority check in and then we just cut the line or else we would've waited for 3 more hours for number 22 to be called. -Once on the ship luggages were missing they kept them hiding in the luggage storage for some reason and then u have to go pick it up and find it yourself -Breakfast buffet was not breakfast it only consisted of bread and crossaints if you wanted a real breakfast with eggs and pancakes you would have to get to the dining room before 9 or else they wouldn't serve you. -Casino only can cash 1,000$ at a time if you will more you have to wait every 20 minutes to cash chips in. -bad customer service no one speaks English would never travel on another costa cruise ever again! My wife and I are in our 50s and have been cruising now for a while with an increased emphasis in the past couple years. We have cruised Celebrity before on Connie as well as Princess, RCI, and Carnival. This was our longest cruise by far as our previous long cruise was a 10 day Caribbean. It was our first transatlantic and our first foray into Mediterranean cruising as well. We flew into Rome 3 days before the cruise from Miami after a layover in Madrid. Having missed our connection in Madrid due to some silly rule from Iberian Air about not letting the crew onboard our plane, we arrived 3 hours later than expected. We traveled with a group through a group package that turned out to be somewhat of a disaster on the transportation front. Being somewhat abandoned at the Rome airport by our TA/transportation arrangement, we were forced to purchase our own bus to the Hotel Diana Rooftop. The hotel was fine and had a very good location. Fortunately the weather cooperated as our room did not have AC. Embarkation was another crazy day. We received notification from Celebrity the night before the cruise that the embarkation port was being changed from Civitavecchia to Naples due to weather. What a night of confusion, both from our TA and from Celebrity. I know this had to be extremely difficult on Celebrity's part as they had to contact a couple thousand passengers through various unreliable means. Having to organize 90 buses to disembark passengers from a port 175 miles away and pickup as many and get them all to Naples had to be an unbelievable logistical challenge. They came through, though, and were well organized in the Rome airport to transport passengers and their luggage to Naples. They checked our bags directly from the bus to the ship which made checking in and getting onboard very easy. Connie is showing her age somewhat, but she still sparkles in most areas. There were always crew cleaning, patching, painting, and maintaining throughout the cruise. This is still one of our favorite ships. We like that it is not a huge ship and the number of passengers never makes you feel like it is crowded. The passengers were more of a seasoned citizen variety with a few exceptions. There were only 8 kids on the cruise. From the various languages I could hear spoken throughout the cruise, passengers were primarily from the US but with a good sprinkling of European and Canadian cruisers with a few Australians as well. There was always something to do, but we spent most of our free time reading. It was sometimes difficult to find quiet places to read since many others had the same plan as ours. The activities were the typical trivia, random game shows, casino games, etc. There were very few good weather days so there wasn't much outdoor pool activity except on a couple days. Having booked Aqua class, we ate in Blu every evening and some mornings. We found the food superior there to the few times we ate lunch in the MDR. The buffet was adequate with good variety. At times the hot food was cold and the cold food warm, but there was variety at lunch and dinner. The two nights we ate dinner in the buffet were very good since they have a make to order grill in the back of the Oceanview cafe. The dinners in Blu were different than when we we were on Connie last April. There didn't seem to be as much of the "clean cuisine" concept as before as evidenced by the insistence to put gravy on every type of meat dish. Cafe Al Bachio always had something yummy whenever we needed a snack. We had booked 4 excursions through Cruise Critic members, 3 of which came off without a hitch. The other one was cancelled due to the operator not showing up. We felt bad for the organizers because it was a large group. We booked two shore excursions through Celebrity and almost got left behind on one of them (Pisa). Fortunately I was able to run to catch the tour before they left us. Rain left us disappointed in Florence but the weather cooperated at all other ports. Agadir was enlightening and a real adventure. Cartagena was nice as were the Canary Islands. Our Aqua A2 cabin was located on deck 9 unfortunately beneath the Lido deck/pool area. On any nights where music was being played we heard it pretty loud and clear and pretty much had to stay up as long as they were playing. In the early morning we would hear chairs scraping as they were being moved as well as heavy footed people walking the deck. The cabin itself was very comfortable as was the bed. Only the location under the Lido deck made it a slight disappointment. Our room stewards were awesome and always greeted us with smiles and well wishes for our day. Wait staff in Blu was exceptional as well. We really enjoyed getting to know some of the folks there since this was a long cruise. They got to know our names and habits as the cruise progressed. Particularly exceptional were Rich Gleason, the cruise director. We've been on many cruises where the cruise director is only seen in two locations- the morning show and introducing the show headliners. Rich was everywhere on this cruise, from jumping in the pool and participating in the crew/guest volleyball game, to helping with the egg drop challenge and many other areas. He was always visible in various lounges and walking the ship talking to passengers in every venue. He was just outstanding. We actually had two captains on this cruise, Captain Nikolas and Captain Tasos. I enjoyed Captain Nikolas but Captain Tasos was incredible. Again, I've never see a captain so visible and participate in so many activities. His performance at the Liar's game was incredibly funny. Overall entertainment was pretty good. The few production shows were good to very good. I was impressed that they had live entertainment every night as well as many guest lecturers that educated and entertained us in many ways. I had my perspective changed on a couple topics due to some of the lectures we attended. Disembarkation was a breeze as there apparently were a lot of customs agents that allowed us to get off of the ship earlier than expected. I wish I could say our TA redeemed themselves with a pickup in FLL. However, after waiting an hour an half in the rain with the prospect of waiting another 1-2 hours, we decided to forego our prepaid transportation and rent a car for the 3 hour drive home. In summary, this was a memorable and enjoyable cruise for us. If I had to pick one negative (other than our TA's blundering of the pre and post-cruise transportation) it was our cabin location and the noise that came along with it. The best part of the cruise had to be the great captain, cruise director and crew who went out of their way to make our cruise enjoyable. Read Less

Holland America enabled us to enjoy a first class, once-in-a-lifetime adventure for my daughter (graduating High School) and the total cost was less than one might expect to spend for a week in Europe. The service was excellent throughout the ship with delicious food, tasteful decor, great entertainment and a fun teen club for my daughter (17). With so many exciting ports to explore (18 ports in 22 days!) my only complaint is the cost of the ship sponsored excursions. The cost was about triple or quadruple what you would pay if you arranged the tour yourself. We had a FANTASTIC onboard location expert, a Holland America employee. She gave us expert advice and thanks to her we visited unforgettable places that we certainly would have missed. We primarily took subways, buses &/or trains to go it alone and met up with other fellow travelers doing the same thing. In Tunisia we even took a local train to the Medina and that was an experience we'll never forget! We found the lowest cost for us to get to Europe was via Munich so we got to Venice via Deutschebahn train and it was a nice scenic trip (for the part we didn't sleep through!). Ordering the train ticket was fairly easy online--although the tickets were issued in German so we had to do a Google translate to be sure we understood what it said so we got to the correct platform to catch the train. In Livorno a goup of us caught an immaculately clean minivan taxi (with Wifi, too) directly as you exit the ship. It took us to Florence and then Pisa. At a cost of $80 per person this was a third of the cost of a Cruise Sponsored similar tour. Also the onboard Internet Speed was absurdly slow so I would recommend going online once in port versus facing this frustration. We booked this cruise last minute and were lucky to be offered an upgrade (for a small extra fee) to a balcony room. Watch your emails for special upgrade offers from Holland America! When we disembarked in Barcelona we took a Vueling (low cost) flight to Paris and stayed in an AirBnB studio flat in a nice area close to the Metro for a couple of days. We then took a high speed TGV train to Munich and stayed at a nice hotel near the main train station for a couple of nights before returning back to Tampa. On another Holland America carribbean cruise the average age of the passenger was about 80 years old (lots of walkers and motor scooters!) but on this one there was a younger crowd and many Aussies onboard.
