I am from Maryland, USA and my wife and I wanted to celebrate our 25 year anniversary in style. You definitely want to get the upgraded suite, we were in room 12226 at rear of ship but on right side. Sun rises were excellent. The room was so large more than 200 SF! With a walk in closet bigger than ours at home. My wife Anita is so jeolous and wants a bigger closet now! LOL. There are people that like to take your spot inline, but in front of you, take your pool chair, etc. But if you stick up, speak up, and tell them no, they will back down. I had a guy butt up to the front of the line to see the host at the registration desk and I told him, that I had been waiting for over 10 minutes and to go to the back of the line. I had a guy steal my pool lounge chair while my wife and I walked around the ship for like 15 minutes. When I got back to my chair I noticed that my towel had been move over to my wife's chair and my chair was slid over to another group. I confronted the gentleman and he said he was sorry and was willing to give me back my chair but I just told him no thank you. Just stick to your guns and you will be fine. We loved the shows, The Vatican, all the churches, I spend $750 upfront on excursions for my wife and me, the first excursion was in Geno and it was the open bus one (it was terrible, the driver flew through the tour, the bus was old, the earpiece plugs into the bus and is not clear to hear, waste of money (But the Aquarium is a must! Unbelievable aquarium, (we have an aquarium in downtown Baltimore but this one has to be four times as large!) etc.. Definitely want to get the drink package, you can not afford not to! And buy it now. Do not wait to get the drink package, on the ship, they hit you up for 15% gratuity and people were trying to fill bottles with water from the dining room. Come on, people it cost money to go on vacation, spent and stop being so cheap!!! The food is not as good as Royal Caribbean. There is no assigned seating but there is assigned dining hall for your cabin and only two seating times available. So I suggest getting the Flex time package where you can go to dinner anytime between 7 PM and 10 PM. Also if you do not feel like eating at the restaurant hall, they only have one other location to eat at and that cost money called Tex Mex restaurant. It costs roughly $20 to $55 euros (for two people total) to get a decent meal there. Oh and the per deim per day per person for gratuity is added automatically to the bill but it is not $7 euros it is now $10 euros! As least for my room! The food was not spectacular. Wife and I got a tour of the spa and fitness center and we both got a free message with our package so I gave my wife both of them. The spa has spectacular views from the front of the ship on 15th floor. We got in the hot tub and it was crouded, the pool temperature on May 23rd 2017 was cool. Felt like 65 degrees. Wife and I do not have kids but the cruise did not have that many kids thank God. Read Less

We are a couple on the 60´s, more than 10 cruises before. Nice looking ship. Very port intensive cruise. Price below competitors. Good bars and lounges. Service very attentive. The line attitude looks cheap, and charge for everything. No toiletries even in a suite. If you buy a drinking package, the only beer available was Heinecken; wines spumante, red, rose and white, period; no choices. Good coffee and liquors in the package. Excellent bars and lounges with above average live music. The main restaurant is very nice, the service is good. We consider the service organization very professional. But, and is a very large but, the food was served in small portions, the ingredients were not first quality (i.e, sirloin steak was not in the menu) and in general the taste and whole experience was far from a satisfactory one, even the pasta and rissoto were not al dente, considering MSC is an italian line. The buffet lacked quality and space organization. Read Less

I am a 46 year old from Indiana. I traveled with my family which consisted of my wife, my 2 10 year old boys, my 70 year old mother and her 68 year old sister. We have all cruised before on Princess, NCL, Celebrity, Disney, and MSC. This cruise was in March and we had just cruised on the MSC Divina las October. I have no cruise status, but the family does travel alot. Embarkation was in Genoa. We learned last fall on the Divina that you dont need connecting rooms if you get balcony rooms next to each other. When you do this you can open up the divider on the balcony between the two rooms and use that to go back and forth between the rooms. The only downside to this was that one night it was pretty stormy outside and the divider banged made noise until I found a way to secure it. Embarkation was fst and friendly. My mother has a cane and once the MSC staff saw this they sped us all through the process and we did not have to wait at all. One nice feature about the ship picking up passengers at about every stop is that our room was ready for us as soon as we got onto the shop at noon. We knew pretty much what to expect with the ship prior to arrival because it is essentially the same as the Divina. I do have to say that the Divina seemed a little nicer than the Splendida. There were a couple more upcharge restaurants on the Divina, although we didnt eat at any of them on either ship. Coming from the USA where there is a mexican restaurant on every corner and a steakhouse on every other corner it was hard for me to justify paying more to eat mexican on the ship. We always get a balcony at the rear of the ship on the floor nearest the buffet. This allows us to grab food and return to our balcony if we cant find a table in the buffet. This was a problem on the Divina, but we never had a problem finding a table at the buffet on the Splendida. This also allows you to be a quick walk to the pool or hot tub without having to walk down a long hallway. The food at the Main Dining Room was so so. I definitely would not go on MSC for the food, but I definitely would not skip the MSC because of the food. It is no Celbrity, but it wasnt much worse than DIsney. My youngest got steak every night and the rest of us tried pretty much everything. The wait staff was friendly but not speedy. You have to expect long dinners in the Main Dining Room though. We only ate in here 4 nights. The evening buffet was smaller than the lunch buffet which was a real bummer. There were not as many choices for dinner than for lunch. There were always good pizza, hamburgers, and a good pasta. They had calamari everynight. I usually like calamari, but this was the fisshiest tasting, rubbery stuff I have ever had. The big disipoinment was not free lobster on the boat. Overall though I liked the food. It was in the 60's most days and people were not at the pools. I had the drink package and found that the pool bar was the place to be. Very friendly bar staff and no crowd. The ports were nice except for Marseille. Marseiile was the dirtiest place I have been. I have been to Beijing, Central America, and Chicago and found Marseille to be a huge waste of time. Not worth the bus ride. Palermo was the best, then Malta, then Rome, then Barcelona. I would do this cruise again in a heartbeat. Read Less

We had never cruised with MSC and choose this one for price and a wedding anniversary but we were very disappointed. Embarkation went smoothly and we were allowed on the ship early due to the weather in Barcelona. The cabin was a decent size on deck 10 with a balcony. Clean and spacious, mini bar if you can afford it. TV to high to watch without getting neck ache. Linen was never changed during 7 day cruise, towels were changed twice a day and bathroom cleaned daily. Pillows very soft although they say there is a pillow menu, didn't know how to choose alternative. Safe ok but how safe is it? Room service we had breakfast in room, that was very nice. Water in room well 2.5 Euros if you drank it, but as we had drinks package we got the same from the bar. Food was not good, breakfast was poor, fried eggs were overcooked and hard, they were also broken. Scrambled eggs had been made from packet mix as very sweet, bacon inedible, plenty of sweet fattening food. No green tea, but plenty of odd fruit teas. Coffee strong and stewed, but Italian coffee is strong. Evening meals, table too close together. cutlery dirty, with dried food on it. Too much shellfish on menu and the meat was tough or uncooked. Vegetarian food on restaurant menu left a lot to be desired. Only good thing on menus was the pasta. Wine very dry and one day I was served a glass of white wine which was tasteless and had been watered down. There was a fuss about changing it till I asked for the manager. Shows were very amateurish and repetitive, no real choreography or theme that was followed, Bingo was popular with some but not me, as was the very smokey casino. Bars ok when you could get a drink as the waiters and waitress seemed to like ignoring people, but as soon as you went to the bar they were there ready to pounce. When the shops opened the also had stalls out to sell to unsuspecting guests, one women tried to sell me facial products by telling me my skin needed lots of work, well in fact my skin was better than hers and I am 70. Everything around MSC is about taking money off you. From selling bottles of expensive wine to steak, lobster etc. My husband was very ill from under cooked chicken. And on disembarkation day we did not have to vacate the cabin until 08.45 so we went to breakfast and when we came back found our cabin staff changing the beds, this was still our cabin but we had left our coats and hand luggage in the room. When we came out one of them shook our hands and said thank you for the things you left we have sent them home to our family. When we got home we found our digital camera with precious memories on had been stolen by them. My advice if you dont mind food poisoning, being ripped off, spoken to as if you are an idiot and having your things stolen then this is for you otherwise avoid this company like the plague. Oh and by the way the balcony was unusable for two days due to balcony maintenance. Read Less

Great value for the dollar with an interesting itinerary. Prior to departure we were given a complimentary upgrade to the exclusive yacht club. Upon arrival at the port in Barcelona, we were seated and offered champagne. After about a 15 minute wait, we were escorted to the yacht club check-in area and then led on the ship by our butler. We were greeted in the concierge area of the yacht club and given basic information about the services provided. After we were given our cruise cards, we were escorted to our room. our bags arrived about 30 minutes later. We unpacked ourselves, but our butler would have done it for us. We enjoyed the private Topsail lounge area which had continental breakast and afternoon and evening hours d'oeuvres out every day. The private restaurant was very quiet, although it is located on the opposite end of the ship from the yacht club. The food was delicious offering a wide variety with many courses each evening. We chose a late dining time of 8:45 and were seated immediately each evening. We also ate breakfast and lunch on most days in this restaurant as well. the service was very good - not exceptional, but very good. It was unseasonably cold so lounging on the sun deck was not an option. The spa offered excellent value for the dollar. It was seldom very busy. We enjoyed the saunas and steam rooms. the entertainment on the ship was great, although we would have like to have heard the tenor and soprano sing more often. Disembarkation was without incident as we were escorted off the ship, picked up our luggage and put in a cab which was waiting at the terminal. We were off the ship at at the airport in Barcelona in about 45-50 minutes. We love MSC and have cruises booked for April and October 2017 already. Read Less

This was our first cruise ever and we loved every single moment of it. I have been working in the Airline Industry for 20 years now as a Flight Attendant, so traveling is nothing new to me. I have stayed in hotels all over the world, but I have never been on a cruise ship. I was surprised beyond belief. It was just awesome from the word go. Great destinations and the ship itself is just marvelous. The service on board is a bit on the average side, and language is a bit of a problem. I speak 3 languages myself, but found the Asian staff did not have a good/clear comprehension of the English language. But overall it was still a pleasant experience. The food was good, however, make sure that you do the formal dining for dinner. Great menus. Tolerance is the key word, and should be applied as there are so many different nationalities and cultures traveling together. At first I found some of the customs from some of the cultures a bit rude/strange/awkward but at the end of the day, each and every person deserves a little peace under the sun. Great experience. We are doing the Eastern Mediterranean this year and can't wait. Read Less

We chose this cruise as it was very reasonable and the ports were appealing . Firstly the flight into Genoa was horrific the turbulence and the terrible landing dare I say by a woman pilot was the worst ever and we are seasoned travellers ! Standard (so we were told) 25 euro taxi transfer to the port Embarkation was long and arduous people pushing in ,long queues, total disorganisation . The ship was magnificent the crystal staircase the bars and restaurants all beyond expectations. Our cabin a balcony on the eleventh deck also gorgeous and spacious we had a lovely shower room and a decent sized balcony. The bed had a Super king memory foam topper again wonderful and comfortable , also great pillows. We ate in the buffet the first night and start as you mean to go on and they certainly did apart from a fantastic four cheese pizza everything else was lukewarm insipid and tasteless. Raw burgers I showed it to the lovely Bulgarian waiter all he could say was Sorry , The salads were bruised as was the fruit , and the bread rolls were very hard Every day the same desserts were served fruit tart ,chocolate cake, cheesecake ,choux buns all with the same custardy filling . Gala night we went to the dining room , luke warm king prawns 4 to be precise two pieces of lettuce and a lemon slice , seafood pasta containing one mussel!! the waiter laughed so much !!!! Shrimp risotto .... guess what no shrimps they may just as well of said Fish Surprise and that's the surprise there isn't any fish !! Fillet of beef ?? more like Birds eye beef in gravy pouch , cold broccoli cold potatoes, and hot baked Alaska !! Dreadful Terrible food No compulsory sanitization entering the Restaurant or Buffett , I pointed this out ,they looked at me as if I was an alien . No regular sanitizing of handrails, and not once did I see a cleaner in the washrooms . For the first time ever we did not tip the maid there was no service above and beyond , , a dirty glass stayed on the balcony three days it was swept once , No spare toilet roll and no tissues, and the same bedding for three days , appalling . The drinks package is well worth the money and by now we had turned to drink ! The best points our lovely waiter Sam always smiling and willing to help, Our lovely waitress from Mauritius such a lovely caring girl nothing was ever too much effort ,The lovely little Chinese girl who made us roar with laughter , and also one from Honduras , MSC are lucky to have these staff including the one in the main restaurant who laughed off the fishy business !! they were the highlight of the holiday .Anthony from the animation team such a lovely polite man and so beautifully dressed , Alex and his partner who kept us all dancing where do they get the energy? The ports , our complaint , docked too far from the towns with expensive fares we were charged thirty euros by a taxi driver in Casablanca we went 500yds disgusting . Disembarkation .. we did not wait we couldn't wait to get off and just got off early there was no real checking our bags were there so all was good , The extra night in Genoa well that is another story do not expect to see too many Italians !! the compulsory taxi fare of 25 was now 19 euros !! best about this cruise was the drinks package, fine dinning in the villa verde, I thought i was at an audition of Oliver ? please sir give me more, you could fit the 3 courses on a single plate, people would go up to the buffet after fine dinning as they were still hungry. best time to eat at the buffet was between 6-7 pm after this time less and less selection was available food here was fine. As said by many the theatre shows were mostly opera so ,did not use much. Cabin was fine but small shower, bar staff and cabin staff were excellent, entertainment was good and varied in the loungers. To me the biggest rip off is the bingo 25,000 euro prize if you call in 40 numbers, but your card has 25 numbers not the normal 15 this is a total RIP OFF you will never win in 40 numbers. we were a party of 6 booked direct with msc so no commission to pay, i needed to print boarding passes for return flight home went to customer services asked if they could print them for me only to be told go to library and pay 3.50 euro to print them, I believe it is the responsibility of the employer to pay staff wages and not the customer, I did not pay gratuities but gave tips to people who gave us very good service, I would go with MSC again only if the price was right Read Less

We so enjoyed this cruise - our seventh with MSC. There was absolutely nothing you could complain about. The food was wonderful and so many different choices to enjoy it was cooked beautifully, served hot and nicely presented. The ship was gorgeous and so well kept. every area was clean and fresh. Entertainment was delightful and very enjoyable with various activities and a different show on in the theatre every night. You were never at a loss for something great to do. The staff were absolutely great. The animation team worked really hard and gave the passengers some wonderful parties and entertained everyone with lots of really great activities. I have to say they were the best animation team (cruise or hotel) we have had the pleasure of watching and enjoying. They were loved by all the passengers. So a big thank you to you all especially Falsto. The staff who waited on our table each evening went the extra mile to make our meals an absolute pleasure. Thanks to Wiranuada from Indonesia and Tony Calderon from Elsalvador - we were so pleased to know you and hope that we will meet again on another cruise. Thanks Tony for the lovely bird you made me from serviettes. Although all the staff were excellent my biggest thanks go to Gisele who waited in the Aft Lounge. What a delightful person she is. I use a wheelchair and Gisele went out of her way to be of help - again the cruise would not have been the same without her. So a massive thank you to Gisele. Read Less

We did the Western Med cruise from Barcelona in April 2015 , the check in was so smooth, no hassles, no waiting, all excusions i had pre booked was 100% accurate as well as drinks vouchers. The service on the ship, Splendida, was fantastic and our Cabin Assistant was super fiendly and efficient. All excursions were well organised no q's and disembarking and re embarking was very simple. All the ports we visited namely Marseille, Genoa, Civitavecchia (Rome), Palermo & Valetta were great and we were blessed with awesome weather throughout even though it was early spring. The embarkation in Genoa could be improved, the only port we had a hiccup. The cabin was suffice and well kept, we had a balcony cabin. There is plenty to do and lots of entertainment day and night. We had dinner in the formal restuarant a couple of times as well as buffet area, although busy in buffet area we never stood in long q's and dirty crocery / cutlery was removed very quickly. If there is 1 gripe its the casino area that smells of smoke and unfortunately filters out into areas close by, we avoided that area as often as possible. We have done 4 cruises with MSC and have already booked our 5th one next year in April, have always had a great experience Read Less

I am very impressed with this cruise company. MSC did very well to make our cruise a great and pleasurable experience. The good point: Excellent Food, Excellent Accommodation, Amazing service from all the crew staff. Very friendly and always making sure we got the best product and service. The punctuality of the actual ship, always sailed at the prescribed time, arriving on time. Allowed us to plan the balance of our trip very well. The excursions we bought were value for money. We saw just enough of each City we choose. I also enjoyed the fact that we were also free to do our own tour and go exploring on our own. The bad points: The reception staff could behave a lot better, they are the first people we meet and they treated us like customers who cant pay. It felt terrible, and this particular lady just started doing her own thing with my Credit Card. I was not impressed and I had to block my card for the balance of the trip. The photos are of good quality but excessively expensive. Read Less

Our first European visit and our second MSC cruise. An absolutely wonderful experience bordering on decadence treatment. The entire process from embarkation to disembarkation was handled superbly. This despite the tragic events the week before in Tunisia, the ship crew simply handled the change in their stride and as a result the detour to Malta proved to be an exhilarating experience and so worth the change. All the port excursions were handled extremely professionally and we did not feel insecure or awkward at any time. The actual experience on the ship itself was fantastic as this is a cruise ship experience that we would dearly love to do again at some point in time. The entertainment was superb and how they managed the eating sittings so seamlessly is beyond belief for 4000 passengers. The Med cruise worked out very well as all port stops were early morning giving passengers the whole day for the excursions, with exception of Rome as the long trip into the City and back ate up most of your time. The only criticism we had was the cost of wifi on the ship and this was made clear by a number of guests. This should be free and MSC must integrate this. It surely is not worth charging your passengers for this. Read Less
