For our eighth cruise, my husband and I decided to try MSC for the first time because of the itinerary, which included two islands we had not visited before (Guadeloupe and Dominican Republic). We have sailed with Royal Caribbean and Celebrity in the past. On this cruise we were traveling with a toddler and my husband’s elderly parents.
Honestly, I was a bit apprehensive considering all the ...
Plus:
- very convenient fly&cruise package: MSC took care of our suitcase which was delivered straight to our cabin without the need to pick it up from the belt at the airport and carry it on the bus. This is the main reason we keep cruising MSC.
- great itinerary with long port days abd extensive excursion programme
- large pools
Minus:
- poor service, deteriorating as years go by. ...
This will be a slightly different review as we were on a theme cruise and not a regular sailing. In other words, there are some things that I cannot rate on behalf of MSC because they were not under MSC's "control." This was a Moody Blues cruise, featuring the band along with several other performers, and for a theme cruise it was fantastic. Lots of music all the time (except when the ship was ...
This was my 12th cruise, and the first I have bothered to review. The 7
Princess, and 3 NCL cruises were great, and the Costa was a train wreck. So I took the MSC Poesia cruise with a little trepidation (Costa and MSC are both Italian lines). My father and his wife took a trip on the Poesia over the 2013 new years holiday, and were impressed. With over 30 cruises under there belts I trusted ...
We stayed at the Bridge at Cordova, as usual, a small overnight hotel with a wonderful atmosphere. You are met at the airport and taken to your ship by the ownwer. Our firt stop was at the mall for a visit to Ross, where we buy yet more summer clothes, great quality and great prices. It's good the see the cruise staff spending their tips on childrens clothes to send home, and is a reminder of how ...
This is one mans opinion. First the plus. The the ship is very beautiful. The coffee is good and hot. The omelet is also good and hot.
The ports of call are also good.
Now the minuses.
Food is cold both in the dining room and the buffet. The ice cream served in the dining room was warm. The lobster tail was soft it fell apart when you tried to pick it up. Service was very slow, but could ...
Ship: Pros: Beautiful, new (2008) and extremely clean, mid-large sized. Clearly the company runs a very tight ship, which often times seems to be for the convenience of the ship's crew and not the passengers (see Cons).
Cons: Ship is so tightly run that as soon as dinner hits, all decks except for the pool area are completely cleared of all lounge chairs and they are no longer accesible until ...
I read all the negative reviews before we left and I was still shocked by the food. Nothing was good to me on that ship and I am not that picky. We ate out at every port because we never ate on the boat. And that's fine if you can afford to do that, but not everyone can. We used this cruise simply as a ride to the islands and that was successful. We are not ones to stay on the boat and we don't ...
Embarkation was a nightmare. We were herded into a large holding area and told to sit and wait for our time to embark. The two elderly MSC employees had no control over the crowd of 3,000 passengers. Many passengers walked around the people waiting their turns. This almost turned into a riot. One of the MSC employees said that he was "going to call the police" if we didn't obey.

MSC seems to have a lot to overcome, with more negative reviews than positive by a long shot. We did two cruises, back to back - the Eastern Caribbean then the Western. The price was spectacular, with the total being under $450 pp for the two combined cruises, plus port charges.
The ship is also very nice, and clean too. Embarkation went pretty smoothly, and our room was fine. We thought ...
