First Time Cruiser

We chose this cruise as a prelude to an extended vacation in England since it conveniently sailed out of Southampton. This was our first and last experience with MSC cruises! We have sailed over thirty times on most of the large cruise lines and have to say that our voyage on the MSC Opera was our worst cruise experience. While we found the service, condition of the ship and entertainment to be ...

Just returned from ten night cruise from Southampton taking in Holland and Norway. First time with MSC and will be the last time with MSC. Having cruised with other cruise lines I think by now I have gained a fair old idea of what these companies have to offer us and on the whole they normally give you a fantastic cruise experience from lovely prepared food to great on board entertainment, this ...

Pretty poor

Just back from our first ever cruise, have to say we were utterly disappointed. Food on board MSC Opera was appalling and always cold whether in the main dining room or buffet. Food is an important part of any holiday, I usually look forward to meals but on MSC Opera we honestly only ate because we'd starve other wise, nothing exciting or tasty about dining onboard. Getting a drink is a ...

Cruised 8 times with other lines before incl. Cunard, RCL & Fred Olsen. MSC Opera was poorest by far. Checking Opera reviews on this site there seems to have been a serious increase in customer dissatisfaction over last 6 months. What has changed on board ? Highlights Baltic capital ports itinerary very good, and St. Petersburg was the gem, using excellent local guides (Lentina Travel) highly ...

2-5 Cruises

Age 70s

Having sailed on the Opera 2 years we expected the same experience but were sadly disappointed. We were a group of 6 adults who have travelled with MSC several times in the past. After going through MSC boarding procedures and then through security provided by (CPK United Nederland BV) I inadvertently left a hip belt on the Xray belt. Upon boarding the ship five minutes later I advised the ship ...

10+ Cruises

Age 60s

7 Nighter out of Southampton at half-term with two 13 year old boys. Initial impression - boarding was the worst we have ever experienced. Bearing in mind we have been on much bigger ships ( Allure,Epic)and boarded in 15 mins, the wait of over an hour in a line for security was unacceptable. We were in a makeshift terminal (normally the Fruit and Veg terminal) with only 2 scanners and they were ...

Our party inc teenage son (13) were very impressed by the ship, cabins, and waiting/stewarding staff but it was very international - all announcements in 5 languages Dutch/French/Italian/English/Spanish,in fact strangely ship took on passengers at all 6 ports of call in a 8 day cruise. The food was very poor in buffet areas ,always luke warm or cold, with a limited poor quality choice. The restaurants ...

MSC Opera - not ready for prime time!

The pretty ship has two flaws . . . a dull menu and a crew sorely in need of training. The ship is classic italian . . .the drew works hard to serve. But no matter what you call it, pasta in red meat sauce is pasta in red meat sauce. The menu was dull and the food tasteless.MSC also does some other oddball things . . . like shutting everything down for hours a a stretch and charging for room ...

The MSC Opera - a beautiful, well appointed and maintained ship! The service staff was superb - both attentive and friendly. Each port-of-call and tour was outstanding - great sights and tours that were not overly rushed while being informative. Unfortunately, the same level of excellence does not pervade the ship. Activities involving process and procedure usually result in organized mayhem. By ...
