Our friend who is a regular cruiser has been saying for years we must go on a cruise, but it wasn’t something that particularly appealed to us. Anyway after watching lots of cruising TV show we warmed to the idea and booked MSC Divina for our honeymoon, and are so glad we did! We absolutely loved it, even though it started off with bad weather - we love the sun, and normally if the first couple of days of a holiday have bad weather it sets the tone for the rest of the time away, but I spite of that we still loved it. Whilst we don’t have any other cruises to compare it to, what it has done is made us want to book again, so we must have enjoyed it. I don’t like to think of us as hard to please or very demanding, and on the whole we enjoyed everything about it. We had an issue with priority boarding in that we awerent give it, even thought it came as part of our package - got it sorted out but wasted maybe 45 minutes waiting around in the terminal. The staff there were either very good or very bad, but I don’t think that is something MSC can control. As first timers I think maybe they could explain things a bit better, such as getting in and off the ship. We felt a little lost at times, but are perfectly capable of figuring things out - I question whether maybe some passengers would just get on with it and figure things out like we did, so perhaps a little work is need there, Regarding food, this seems to be one of the main areas where there is criticism and I understand this, it wasn’t the best. For us, it was fine. Food isn’t really a huge issue fo is, as long as we can get something to eat. I would say it was probably average, selection wasn’t always great wherever you had dinner and not always as hot as it could be, but equally was too hot at other times. Definitely an area for improvement, but by no means a deal breaker for me. All said, it was a fabulous experience and I wouldn’t hesitate to go on Divina again! Read Less

Let me start by saying that this is the 6th cruise that I've been on in the last 10 years, across several different cruise lines, so I feel my expectations are pretty reasonable overall. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed in the food and service on this cruise. Ship The ship itself is beautiful - in addition to all the 'Bling' with the crystal staircases, I really liked the floor to ceiling windows in the buffet dining areas. Cabin Our cabin was an "ocean view' cabin (port hole, no balcony) and I was very happy with the size and amount of storage in the cabin. One minor annoyance was the crew washing down the outside of the porthole at 1:00 am on two different nights, which woke me up. Dining This was the worst part of the cruise. We were told to expect smaller portions due to the European dining styles vs US dining, and that would be fine with me. The problems were in other areas. Main Dining room - the first night, it took 2.5 hours to complete our meal. It was total chaos. The timing improved somewhat after that, but always tended toward the slow side, with people at the same table receiving portions of their meals at different times. I've also never seen an upcharge for shrimp cocktail or other entrees in the main dining room before this trip, but it was there every night. Also, the main dining room was only open for dinner, no breakfast or lunch. Buffet - So if not happy with the main dining room, eat at the buffet right? The problem is that the buffet served the exact same food every day, with 2 or 3 exceptions. By the end of the trip I was craving something different. Pizza restaurant - we did have an excellent pizza here, but with a small upcharge. Steak house - we had a great meal here, but the service was very slow. Sports bar - the burger was good here, as was the mozzarella sticks, but the reuben sandwich is served with literally 2 onion rings and a tablespoon of coleslaw. Several of us ordered this and it was they all came out this way. Entertainment - saw 2 shows and they were good, but only lasted about 30 minutes each. Service This was the other area of major disappointment. We were very often treated rudely by the staff. Part of this I can accept as language barrier type issues, and that would be ok, but other times, before we could even ask our question, or place our order, we were told "we are closed", or "No" with no alternatives being offered. Each day when they cleaned our cabin, something was missed, either wash cloths, pool towels, etc. Bar service started out shaky, but did improve over the course of the week. Ports and Shore Excursions Our itinerary changed significantly due to hurricane damage to our original destinations, but that is no fault of MSC. I was very happy with the excursions that we did book through the ship. Final thoughts - MSC has a long way to go if they want to break into the US market. There were a lot of problems that could have been overlooked, but by the end of the week I felt so frustrated with the service and attitude of the staff that other problems just added to my overall negative impression. At one time the customer service rep. told me that I had no idea what I was talking about they I had never been on a cruise, I explained I have been on more than 10 cruise. They called me a liar, they did nothing at all to assist, the food was that same every day for the entire cruise seems like they would just reuse what ever did not go the day before no choices of meal lunch you can have pizza or a burger nothing else. In the evening time the buffet was never stocked had to wait in line for food MSC DIVINA was by far my worse experience every on any cruise and I have personally traveled on 3 other cruise lines Take my word on this!!!! At the end of Hurricane season, my partner and I decided we wanted a cruise - and MSC offered a compelling option - so we took it! We were automatically upgraded to a balcony room on Deck 13 - more of a balconette, I might add. The cabin was comfy, the balcony pretty much useless (except to let in sea air), but the cabin steward was always a bit slow - our room wasn't ready on Day 1 until after 4pm, nor were we given pool towels in the room (exchanges only are made on the pool deck). Our friends on Deck 5 didn't get a balcony, but their room was noticeably bigger and more comfy. The cabin steward was a bit slow to clean every day - sometimes nothing was touched until mid-afternoon. This I thought a bit odd. The ship? One word - BIG and gorgeous. Absolutely beautiful artwork as well - the crystal-infused atrium stairways were spectacular. Dining - we had first seating dining in the Black Crab - a beautiful dining room. However, be aware that you are NOT on an American cruise ship- it's Italian, and you'll never forget that as your dinner takes a leisurely two hours most nights. Portions are Euro-sized as well (not a problem for me) - so be aware that you won't be taking in 4,000 calorie dinners by default - you'll need to order multiple entrees to reach that level of wretched excess. Specialty dining- 3 versions of Eataly were on board - we went to the Eataly Steakhouse, expecting fantastico service. Nope. Very slow. Haphazard. The wait staff forgot requests regularly. We all agreed it was a total waste of money as well. Coffee and water packages presented an interesting mix of modernity and bureaucracy. I thought I'd get the water delivered en masse to the room on Day 1 - it was a hope. Nope. The room steward delivered two little booklets of paper coupons for the water and coffee - we had to sign for these. Instead of being loaded on my cruise card, I had to give my cruise card and paper coupon to the various locales on the ship to get coffee or water bottles. Odd. Entertainment - was quite nicely done, though I do think they overused the YMCA song (!). You'll enjoy it. Just don't expect much narrative - just sit back and enjoy in the beautiful Pantheon theatre! Activities - a nice mix well-suited to all ages. The only issue I had was that though the gym was free, access to the changing room and sauna was restricted to an extra-fee charge. Once on board, you immediately need to set up a credit card against your cruise card. Why they don't let you do this online or at check-in is another very odd Italian quirk. The crew was quite friendly - most announcements were done in six languages (!). One issue of note was that room stewards and wait staff were mostly of people from the Philippines - but all entertainment and management was composed of Europeans. Why, oh progressive Europeans, are not your Filipino team members not worthy of higher roles? I use the phrase "progressive" loosely. It was pretty obvious that your role was dependent on your ethnicity. Very disconcerting in this day and age. I expect better, as equality must be lived to be appreciated. MSC doesn't get this, and it was noticeable. Ports - we were rerouted due to earlier season Hurricane activity. However, our stops in Costa Maya, Cayman Islands, Montego Bay Jamaica and Nassau were lovely and nicely planned - kudos! Internet - they really limit you here. Be aware that 800mB total for the Surfer pkg will go quickly if you are not very, very careful. Finally- the disembarkation process began just before 7am Saturday and was very VERY well done. Good going, Team MSC! Would we go again? Now that I understand the Euro-lack of service (speed), maybe I would go. But my travel colleagues vastly prefer American service levels. Read Less

The price was unbeatable as a "last minute". We dined every night with the same people and luckily we loved them all and had some great conversations as well as a lot of fun. Ordering breakfast in the dining room was a crap shoot ... order what you want and get what they give you so be a flexible breakfast eater. The food was OK but not fabulous. The entertainment on the other hand was truly fabulous and every night was like going to an off Broadway event. We tendered once out of 4 stops and I don't tender so that was a plus for me. The balcony room was great....13125 was a super convenient location and the beds were nicely prepared to make you comfortable. The ship itself is HUGE and beautiful. It has literally thousands of mirrors and "Glitz" is the operative word for this ship. They had two formal nights, one white night and one Halloween night (which was an absolute fun night) The ship was all decorated for Halloween and dressing up for the best costume contest is highly encouraged. Not everything was perfect but the imperfections were fairly minor ....it's all in your attitude so go with a good one and have fun !! Read Less

After sailing for several times on Princess I wanted to try MSC, hoping it would be similar experience that I got used to on Princess. It wasn't. Ship is beautiful and pristine what comes to maintenance and cleanliness. Unfortunately MSC is lacking in professional and friendly service, limited seating options 'for two' at dining rooms and overall falling short to create 'quiet and relaxing' cruise experience. There is no reason why MSC would charge for their "Thermal Spa". It's mostly co-ed areas with NO pool, jacuzzi, cold towels, water service or any other amenities associated with typical spa charges. Just dry and steam sauna. Very disappointed. It should be complimentary, just like on most Princess ships. Unfortunately MSC is not enforcing their formal and semi-formal night attire, allowing hillbillies to wear t-shirts and shorts on formal nights. It's very disrespectful for passengers, who take time to dress elegantly. Ship itself is spotless and very clean. Even Princess ships are unfortunately never that well maintained. Food was tasty and good quality. Buffett is a Carnival style, where it's scattered all over the place and being closed for several hours between breakfast-lunch and dinner. Providing you only three options; pizza, cheeseburger and a hotdog, while main area is being closed. No healthy options like soup and salad are available during meal brakes. This serving time brake creates lines, making entire ship to go to buffet at the same time. It's a total zoo. Screaming kids, pushing, rude people and bad buffet design. I prefer Princess style, where food is located in same area with seamless food options throughout the day. Eliminating lines and waiting time. MSC buffet style is also a major hygiene issue, since there is no control over people disinfecting their hand prior entering to buffet. Kids touching food and buffet utensils with their dirty hands. Most bars and pools were closed during port days, which seems rude toward passengers who like to stay aboard and enjoy ship. MSC Divina is like a beautiful Aria hotel located in Vegas, unfortunately filled with Vegas type of people and with unprofessional customer service. Not sure if it's intentional or unintentional, but MSC seem to attract Carnival type people with their low cruise prices, when it has so much more potential to compete with Princess instead. This cruise had too many kids and families, 'budget cruisers with no etiquette and style', very anti-social, unfriendly and just rude crowd. Of course not MSC's fault, but if that's the demographic that MSC is aiming to attract, then it's just too bad. This shortsighted approach to expand their market will definitely hurt MSC reputation and brand image in a long run. Especially if they will continue to aim for "low fruit" market, instead of going higher by improving their services and raising their prices. They can certainly afford to do that. Read Less

This was our first cruise ever - what an amazing experience! Checking-in in Miami was very smooth and took little time. We could board at around 2.30 pm. Our cabin (13082) was situated on the 13th deck and was more spacious than we could imagine with enough storage/drawers for a seven night cruise. Our room attendant Theo was very attentive and our cabin was cleaned minimum twice a day (with daily evening turndown where they close the curtains and leave the brochure of next days' activities on your pillow). Dining was overall very good. We were seated in the "Black Crab" restaurant (second dinner seating) - we found this place very busy, but the food was good, nothing special. As we liked to be more cosy sometimes, we went to the buffet restaurant on two nights and enjoyed our meals over there with a bottle of wine. We tested quite some bars (as we had purchased prepaid drink vouchers) and they were all very good. Cocktails were nicely made and tasted delicious! We went 4 times to the Pantheon Theatre and we loved the Michael Jackson show the most, anyway this kind of entertainment was very much appreciated. Nice selection of shops onboard. The ports we did were amazing (Ocho Rios, Cayman, Cozumel and Nassau!) - we did some snorkeling, a jeep safari,etc. We did not book through MSC, but did everything ourselves (via Viator and so on). We will choose again for MSC in the future! Read Less
