Where to start: First, we have sailed nineteen times and experienced an array of American AND European cruise products from RCCL, Princess, Costa, P&O, NCL, Holland America etc. The experiences of these diverse products have collectively informed my opinion of our MSC experience. MSC is NOT for the American market share rather, this European line is clearly after the sustainability of the European market share. American products by and large, do not charge a consistently high price for the cruise and then, charge clients for water while on board. Yes... MSC does this. Not even Costa does this. We paid over 3k for our cruise (similar and consistent to what we have paid for with other products like RCCL, Costa, Princess etc.) but while on board the MSC product we were charged for water.... we were amazed, perplexed and terribly disappointed. Its also important to note -what MSC USA sold us was not what we experienced onboard. When we pointed out the discrepancies on board we were told to take it up with MSC USA when we got home. We did, they did nothing to satisfy or settle our issue. We purchased the Fantastica experience, were told drink packages were included - then they somehow were not included. When we argued they were - we were told we had to buy a drink package which we did for our two children (non alcoholic package) and 1 adult alcoholic package. Only to get on board and be told we shouldn't have done that in fact it was included in our package and when we asked to have the initial prepaid packages we purchased refunded they said - sorry it wasn't included... The only thing which we felt was consistent was the inconsistency between what was sold and what we expected to what we actually experienced onboard. Other things we felt were important to note. The excursions - expensive but of little to no substance; again, representing to us an imbalance between what we paid for and what we actually experienced. We purchased several excursions through MSC - and quickly spent MORE TIME transiting to the excursions than we actually did enjoying the place we were visiting. This happend to us in both Arles France and Portofino. In Arles, we spent 3 hours on a bus to experience the town for only an hour. While in Portofino, same things - we paid a fortune to go to Portofino and spent three hours transiting there only to spend an hour IN Portofino... Very little value for money. Similarly, MSC twice docked at a port which they charged a fee to go from the Port facility to the town.... We were left shaking our heads and again, having the experience of other lines, this was an anomaly we felt was important to note for others who are considering this line. The ship itself was clean, comparatively clean to other lines and with cabins which were much larger than the typical stateroom found on other lines. That was about the only two bonuses on this line. Our experience of the ship was in one word -- exhausting. Terribly overcrowded and with clearly overwhelmed staff who continually treated us with discourtesy and disregard. The staff appeared as exhausted of the overcrowded conditions as we were. This was consistent from the bar staff to the dinning staff -- totally overwhelmed and continually discourteous and seemed exhausted..... The common centers on the ship were jammed daily elbow to elbow with people and loud music - wasn't a quiet spot on the ship to be found... ever. The smoking is an experience not commonly found with American products, on European lines - smoking is everywhere and something we found terribly intrusive and distasteful. Imagine placing the ONLY soft serve ice cream station for kids on the ship in the smoking section of the ship... kids actually have to endure cigarette smoke while waiting for their ice cream (which was eventually closed down due to being broken). This careless disregard for children - alone, made us not want to return to this product... ever. We have sailed many ships (19 cruises to date) and several of those other European products. First time we were ever on a ship and product we couldn't wait to leave... first time. The cost of this product comparatively is similar to other lines - RCCL, Princess Holland America - but what you get for your money is wholly inconsistent and as a result, we could not in good conscience recommend this product, especially for families. While MSC is trying desperately to break into the American marketshare, we believe this is going to be extremely difficult as people with experiences such as ours, share our impressions with others. This was an honest and unbiased account of our experience. We hope it is taken seriously so the product may be improved for others going forward. For us, we will not use or recommend this product in the future. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary. Unfortunately they are not offering the same one next year or we would be on it again. 1. The ship is beautiful! The cabins are spacious and clean. The ship overall is kept in top notch form. Both in repairs and cleanliness. 2. The food is very good. We did wish that MSC offered free dining in more locations like Norwegian cruise line does. Eating in the dining room every night got monotonous. 3. The entertainment was very good. Talented dancers and singers, but VERY repetitive. The opera could be eliminated, although they were very good singers. Other entertainment in the bars was very pleasant. 4. We had no issues with embarkment and disembarkment. The embarkment was slow, but apparently not a MSC issue, but customs issue... so I heard. Once they began though it happened quite quickly. Most of the luggage was in our rooms within the hour. The other suitcase was more like two to three hours. We didn't sit and wait, so I'm not sure exactly. We went to the sport bar right away because no one was there. That worked our great. 5. Lovely pools. Enjoyed the depth because they weren't packed full of standers. They were deeper pools, so you had to swim somewhat. 6. The dining staff rating is a bit lower because of this being a European ship. They don't gush over the customers as we Americans are used to on other cruise lines, tho they weren't rude either. The bar waiters and waitresses seemed quite pleasant. 7. Our room steward was very nice but due to the language barrier he didn't say much, but always smiled. No towel animals or towel persons as we have grown to expect from other cruise lines..no big deal. 8. There was a morning activity at the pool each day which I though was great. Stretching, exercise, dance lessons...etc. As I said earlier. I really wish they would have offered the exact same itinerary for 2020...disappointed. Read Less

The only good things on this ship were the shows in the theater and the Italian Specialty Restaurant for a fee. Food and service in the main dining room were terrible. Food was tasteless and cold. The description on the menu had nothing to do with what was actually served. We had one waiter that didn't know what Iced Tea was.We missed the Opera performance because dinner service was very, very slow. Took about 2 1/2 hours for dinner. One day our excursion returned after the dining room closed, we were told to eat at the anytime dining, when we got there we were told that we had to eat at the Buffet because we hadn't made prior arrangements for the Anytime dining. The theater was not handicapped friendly. Two people in our group fell down the steps. Disembarkation was a nightmare, Took over three hours to get off the ship. Read Less

We sailed on MSC Divina because we got got a bargain and to entice us we were "matched" to the level on NCL/Carnival, we found the ship to be nicely designed, our cabin was comfortable and the amount of amenities and dinning was plentiful, we were hesitant because people's reviews had made it seem like there was too much pasta on the menus, we found the opposite, the food was very tasty and the selections was great, they still need to work out a few kinks, in the black crab restaurant ( where we were assigned ) we had to wait for our coffee to accompany our desserts, but it seems like every cruise line is cutting staff and you don't get quite the prompt service that we expect. The itinerary was wonderful too, going to shore and coming back into the ship was painless and we loved the fact that the ship stayed longer in ports than most cruises we have taken, that was nice surprised. Another pleasant surprise was the entertainment in the theater, we enjoyed all of the shows, they did an amazing job and would certainly would do another MSC Cruise. Read Less

Best cruise value for balcony cabin including drink package. Service in the Black Crab Dining Room excellent. Our waiter and crew anticipated our needs before we asked. The food was selection was more Mediterranean than we've had on other ships but excellent options and we enjoyed trying a few new things. We tried the dining room for both breakfast and lunch as well and enjoyed the menu selection. Excellent pizza, salads, desserts, as well as hot and cold entrees were available in the buffet. The Bella drink package was wonderful. Instead of paying $12/drink, on this ship we were able to drink all day for $12 in tips. The shops were very nice, and the adults only Solarium area was the nicest I'd seen on any ship. Deck chairs were harder to find on sea days, however we learned to get out early and "save" our chairs just like everyone else did. the shows were wonderful and the excursions were great too. Bought this in May, with a $198 deposit, a Memorial day special with free drinks and balcony. We had a great cabin 8230 on Deck 8 without lifeboats blocking our view. We were also near the elevator that we would used late at night coming down from the Black and White Lounge. Transportation is not at problem from Fort Lauderdale and back from the Miami port. Cost is $38 for Uber or $20 per person with the shuttle one way. Just walk off the ship, the shuttle drivers are there with signs for FLL. We do not stay in Miami for I feel and like FLL.. more fun at the beach bars in Hollywood. MSC has a match points program with the other cruise lines so I was given all the great perks and also my cabin mate. I did not have one bad meal or service in the Black Crab. Even the buffet is excellent except some items that should be near the entrée are not. Best to scot out where everything is so you can hopefully have hot food. Entertainment was excellent even got to see an OPERA, This is my 3rd cruise with MSC and will continue to cruise with them... if the price is right. Only took one tour other one was on our own. I am currently on the MSC Divina as we head back to port in Miami. Would I cruise with MSC again? Probably not. While the price was right and the ship is beautiful there is plenty of room for improvement. I'm going to give each a category a rating from 1-10 with some comment. This is my 4 cruise but my first one with MSC. Ship: 10 Embarkation: 7 (Long lines) Balcony Cabin: 7 (Nicely appointed but small) Food: 5 (Inconsistent and quite salty at times) Wait Staff: 8 (Most waiters were very pleasant. They appear to be understaffed.) Cabin Steward: 10 (Excellent) Lounge Entertainment: 8 (The classical violinist has to go.) Shows: 7 (Same type of show every night. They lasted 25-35 minutes for the most part.) Internet Access: 9 (Once you got connected it was slow but fine.) All in all I give my cruise an 8. Why wouldn't I sail again with MSC. For me it's all about the food and entertainment. I've cruised with Celebrity and had a much better experience. More expensive, yes, but gave Celebrity a 10 across the board. Read Less

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 12 day adventure on the MSC Divina. The ship is amazing and the captain and crew were always there to answer questions and help make the trip enjoyable. The food is a mix of European and American fare. I think most normal people will find plenty to satisfy them. I actually witnessed many, many people finding plenty. We only took one ship sponsored excursion and that was a late addition to the excursion list. It was a simple bus trip was in Jamaica. It was to be a short ride from the port to Duns River Falls. This innocent little excursion was one of our only disappointments on the trip. The 10 minute bus ride took about 40 minutes as we stopped just outside the port to allow passengers to buy water shoes from a street vendor. We all presumed the vendor to be a relative of the guide. Anyway, truly a waste of our time but not really the fault of MSC. The entertainment throughout the ship was high quality and the theater shows were very high quality with professional talent, lights and sound crew. My wife and I would take early morning strolls and see the crew setting up the deck chairs. Very early in the day people would drape their 'issued orange room towels' over the chairs to claim them. Now it may be hours or hours-and-hours before anyone actually reappeared to use the chairs but no less the 'orange towels' kept anyone else from using them. I didn't really think this was a good solution for deck chair management. I mean could I drape an orange towel over buffet tables, casino machines, theater seats...NO. So why was this acceptable on the deck? Anyway, not sure how other ships handle this but a better solution must exist. Overall I do rate our cruise on the MSC Divina as Excellent. I would cruise both MSC and the Divina again without hesitation. Read Less

After over a decade of cruising, we decided to try MSC Divina. Very disorganized crew. Late embarkation and disembarktion with no explanation. Lines for linking credit card to sea pass on ship. Only one customer service desk open. Bar service slow, rude staff, unless of course you are willing to tip an additional few dollars above the 15% already charged per drink. Those customers were catered to. Poor food selection, slow service from wait staff. Horrible problem with pushing and shoving of guests on this cruise, mostly from Europeans which was the overall consensus from most US and even some UK guests. Eataly steak house has no atmosphere and is nothing more than a pizza parlor with plastic chairs. Dining staff difficult to deal with to change dining time. Required multiple requests and standing in lines. MSC crushed a hard side suitcase with no responsibility taken by staff. Will not sail MSC again. Read Less

We chose the cruise due to the dates and itinerary from Miami Embarkation was disorganised, and chaotic. We did get off at every port and generally they were good. This was the worst cruise line we have been on by far. When we embarked the ship we found used Incontinence pads left in bins by previous residents, and no towels. Poor quality of food, very little fresh fruits and vegetables, one day we found mouldy cheese on display in the buffet. Very repetitive, lack of hygiene at best 3 star rating It is not worth pre-paying for any extra services as you get better treatment as a walk-in. We pre-paid laundry service which came back stained and crumpled. Some items had to be returned twice to get the staining out, caused by them. Our Internet package could only be on single device with only social media availability. We could have paid to add devices and access to e-mails! But didn't want to give this company any more of our money. Daytime entertainment was poor and moronic. Evening entertainment by the pool was the same. The theatre had some talented individuals which was let down by the choreography with the same stuff being regurgitated, just different songs, and frequently in Italian In the lounges again there was one or two talented performers. We did complain to MSC both onboard and post cruise but the tone of the apology letter in our view did not take our complaints too seriously. I have attached a selection of photos which show why we complained. Overall you would be better off trying perhaps Princess as better all round or maybe some other cruise line, but I would recommend giving MSC a wide berth. Read Less

We sailed a 10 day cruise on the MSC Divina on the 10th January 2019 from Miami, porting at St. John's, Antigua, Basseterre, St Kitts, Road Town, Virgin Islands, Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe and Philipsburg, St. Maarten. Embarkation at the port of Miami was fairly straight forward, we arrived around 11am and checked in although there was a wait in the terminal building until 1pm. We had a balcony cabin on deck 12, the cabin was comfortable and had everything you would expect i.e. TV, Hair Dryer etc Dinning We struggled with the dinning on MSC, i have sailed with MSC several times previously but always find the dinning a challenge after sailing with the flexible freestyle dinning on NCL. Dinning is fixed to two sittings and is a shared table. We chose the later sitting. MSC normally do a reasonable job at matching up similar guests of the same nationality so its important you check that your nationality is correct on your cruise documents. The service in the restaurant was good. The food in the main restaurant (Black Crab) was ok but i cant say that any of the meals were particularly memorable. The speciality dinning options are also limited, we ate in the Galaxy Disco Restaurant one evening as it was included with out Black Card Status, it is a Sushi/Asian restaurant and the $30 taster menu was included free however, if i had to have paid for the restaurant i would have been very disappointed. The service was good but the food was limited and we were still hungry when we left. The only other speciality restaurant is the Italian and to be honest i wouldn't pay for pizza when the pizza in the buffet is free and is excellent. As you would expect being an Italian cruise line; the ice cream, coffee and pizza are all good. Entertainment This time we didn't really experience much of the live entertainment, i heard i was good. I did venture into the Theatre one evening however i wasn't very impressed with what i saw, it looked a bit amateurish. There were plenty of deck parties and always something going on around the pool deck so i would suggest if you want a quite place to sit then you should avoid the main pool deck. We went to the nightclub a few times and there always seemed to be a few people in there until quite late. There were some gala nights whereby you could dress up if you wanted and there were theme nights such as a 70's party and the white party. Pool Areas Sea days as you would expect are very busy, it was annoying that people put towels on beds and then never use them. One day we took towels off the beds and were there all day and the people never came back. Its pretty selfish of people to reserve beds like this. Casino What i really liked about the ship was the roulette table, there was only a minimum bet of $1 required and it was $1 dollar chips which is different to NCL whereby its $2 chips and a minimum of 5 chips per round. I was able to sit at the roulette table for many hours and not spend too much money. Drinks The drinks package we had was a bit random, it included one draft bear and miller light cans and wines, it was a bit difficult trying to find out what was included and what wasn't. We actually discovered that you could order a non alcoholic frozen cocktail and ask for a spirit to make your own. There was a variety of wines but not the best to be honest. Also i don't think you need to buy any of the MSC experiences if you buy a separate drinks package as they don't really offer anything over and above. Ports All of the ports were excellent and we did this cruise because of the itinerary, we were a little disappointed with Guadeloupe and just visited the local town. At all the stops we were able to just get off the ship and find a taxi to a local beach, most days the taxi's were around $8 per person and at most of the beaches a sun chair was $10 and umbrella $15. If you do some research before you go then i don't think you would really need to do any of the ship tours. Overall, it was a nice cruise, a good itinerary, good service and a nice ship but nothing particularity memorable. I have cruised with several other cruise lines previously including MSC and Royal; Caribbean and if i had the choice of a cruise with a similar itinerary and price then i would choose NCL simply because of the flexible dining and the simplicity of the drinks package offered but i don't think you will be disappointed with MSC. Absolutely the worst cruise iv ever been on. Me and my mother have been cruising together sense 2009 and I can honestly say inspite of the great price I would never recommend MSC nor cruise with them again. To start with when we arrived we found out after ordering a Corona and coke that yes the drinks are free with the drink package but there are surcharge fees (hidden fees) for every drink and the price for the same drinks doesn't stay the same throughout the ship. Once we got to our room (AFTER THE ANNOUNCEMENT THAT ROOMS WERS READY) the bathroom was still dirty. In addition to all the rooms on our side being dirty or needing something our bathroom was visibly dirty with sand, a ring around the tub and no washcloths or towels in site. We found our steward who was in another room to inform him that we were going to need 4 face clothes everyday and our bathroom was dirty. More housekeepers were brought over by a man In white to help...the day went on.We went to dinner, came back room was clean and had 2 face cloths. At that time we noticed the sharps container that my mother requested weeks prior to embarking was missing. We phoned the steward to bring us one. Day 2 midday my mother's bed fell... She is not even 200lbs but her whole matress fell to the floor. We let the steward know who said ok. We went to lunch, got in the whirlpool came back it was fixed. We had "complimentary breakfast" tags to put on the outside of the door. We filled it out took a nap and went to dinner. We returned and while the beds had been made we had no new rags or towels for the next day even though we had asked for them. Day 3 checked our room balance prior to getting off in Jamaica and to our surprise we had been charged $3.50 for room service. That's not complimentary if we had a fee.... Only one $50 on board credit had been added to the room and they weren't sure when we'd receive the second. At this point we owed no money. Got off at the port and returned to the ship. When we returned they were painting under lifeboats 14 which happened to be right outside my balcony and they were staining the doors that lead from the buffet to the gelato on the 14th floor. I am a asthmatic so the paint and excessive fumes from solutions triggered a asthma attack. The next morning we informed customer service who offered no apology and said they didn't know if they planned on painting again throughout our voyage. Additionally, we asked if they could have our steward leave wash clothes everyday because he hadn't been doing so. Because the service agent showed no empathy I asked for my gratuities off my room to be removed and for a print out. At that time the balance on the room was -$99.56 ( meaning they owed me) Day 4 after speaking to customer service we went to the casino, in order to play we had to add a minimum of $135 to the room which we did and played. Up until this day we had ordered drinks, gotten coffee, gelato and movies and somehow when we checked the balance not only was the $99 they owed me gone but at this point we owed them. We paid with no issue. This day was a sea day so after the casino we had lunch and went for a nap. As soon as I laid in my bed it fell (1st time). I went down to customer service and they sent a carpenter. The day went on. At some point we returned to our cabin to find a "urgent" letter posted on our door saying we needed to come to guest services. Unsure what it was about we went down. At that time they wanted to know had my mother received her sharps container. Later on in the cruise other guest asked about the urgent letter. As you can imagine we were uncomfortable having to explain that it was nothing. I believe the notice should have been slid under the door like all the other papers were. Day 5 This was the Aruba port but we didn't get off we stayed on to enjoy the ship but unfortunately non of the shops were open and the casino only let you play if you had cash because the machines were not recognizing room cards. Again we had breakfast, laid around, sat on the balcony, got in the whirlpool, went to lunch and had a nap. While sleeping I was awakened by the sound and feeling of the bed falling(2nd time). Humiliated and embarrassed I waited to go to customer service but I called around 2:30pm to inform them that the bed fell again. Sitting on the balcony until 330pm nobody had been to the room, called again but got no answer. Went to the desk who than called a carpenter, went to the cabin to wait. 4:30pm went back to the desk to inform them that nobody had been in and I wanted it fixed before dinner so I could go to bed. After almost 4hours the carpenter came in. I asked if he could just replace the bed but instead he added a screw in the left side of the bed saying it was missing. Days 6-8 were better other than having to ask for washcloths on a daily.Unfortunately Someone's toilet had overflown causing a horrible smell throughout parts of the ship which made several people vomit including my mother. Day 9 After being up all night with my mother being sick we were told that we had to be off the ship no later than 11:30am because the crew had another safety drill. We explained to the man who had on a MSC jumpsuit that my mother was not feeling well but he insisted that we had to go. Very disheartening. Once we returned from the port we purchased 2 White Hennessey from the duty free shop on board and paid off the balance on our account. At that time we asked the agent who was helping us (Stacey) what is the protocol if we didn't have any more money (knowing all we had left was money for the ports but not to cover any more surcharges for drinks). She told us we'd have to come the night before debarking to sign a declaration. Nothing more happened until the night before debarking. After dinner my face began to swell which are signs of a obvious allergic reaction. I took benedryl and laid down. My bed fell once again(3rd time) causing me and my mother to go to customer service. While complaining about the bed we thought it was wise to sign the declaration because we had an early flight. We were told by a supervisor there was no such thing and if we were unable to pay we'd have the sheriff called on us to deal with the situation. At this point in addition to the humiliation I felt because the bed had fallen numerous times, we now had the added stress of missing our flight home with no money to get back and being arrested for no reason. And my face was so swollen it effected my vision and I had a soar throat. We agreed that yes we owed the money but prior to the last port we had the money. We would have just paid for the drinks and casino as we played but because we were told by the MSC customer service agent on board that we could sign the paper agreeing to pay later we thought no more of it. After 4hrs of trying to bargain with them and Stacey admitting that she told us about the declaration another supervisor named Victoria came to help. She sent security with us to our room to retrieve the alcohol we purchased as if we were criminals who stole it. She agreed to meet with us on debarkation day at 7am which we did. Took until 9am but we eventually signed the declaration and was able to leave with the threat that if the money was not paid in 5 days we would be arrested. All of that embarrassment, humiliation and disappointment for $147.07. No apologies for the bed repeatedly falling,no concerns for my obvious allergic reaction, no apology for causing my asthma attack but we have a bill for $147.07, the threat of being arrested and was treated as a criminal. I WOULD NEVER IN MY LIFE SAIL WITH OR RECOMMEND MSC. Read Less

This was our 1st MSC and we were very pleased. The Divina has elevators everywhere, so getting around was quite easy. The casino was small and there were even $1 blackjack tables. The shows were good, but the same performers/singers were in every show so I would rate the shows less. The other venues were great and each had music every night and a dance floor. The Golden lounge seating was a bit weird but it was a nice place. The La Luna Lounge was very nice but lacked a good dance floor. The Rosa dining room was nice, but service on the second night was very, very slow, taking 1hr 20 mins just to get our appetizers. After that, however, service was quick. The one slight complaint would be their drink package(s). There are way too many packages and the crew were constantly having to look up to see if our drinks were included in which package. They really need to cut down the number of drink packages. All in all, it was a great ship and we would recommend it to anyone. Read Less

Hope this helps anyone looking to have an enjoyable vacation. Ship The ship is beautiful other than the dining rooms which I believe are poorly designed compared to other ships I've been on. The staff is excellent and accommodating and always willing to assist. The only other real complaint I have is that the elevators are in an offset configuration which means you have to stand way back from them to see all the indicators and then the doors close so quickly, it's difficult to get to the elevator before they close. Itinerary They could have and should have chosen any port other than Jamaica which is just a rip-off no matter how you slice it. The Jamicans seem to have only one interest, your money and have no interest in making you want to come back to Jamaica. Cartagena, Columbia was very nice. See the old town and for food there is a little restaurant right across from the McDonalds and Burger King I'd highly recommend. They serve fresh fish and the food was excellent and inexpensive. In Panama, the city of Colon is basically a sxxx hole. It was so filthy, my wife and I just wanted to leave. Some of our travelling companions said that Panama City, about 90 minutes away was beautiful and had a nice old town as well as much to see and that it was clean. Limon, Costa Rica is beautiful and I'd recommend just taking a taxi to the beach and spend some time there eating and drinking the time away. Costa Maya was fantastic! The port was beautiful in every way. Great shopping, a dolphin sanctuary, beautiful pools, and great little shows. We took a party bus excursion that left you half drunk by the time you reached the beach where we were provided all the food, drink, beach chairs umbrellas, tables and a beautiful pool to relax in as well. The food was good but not great. The service was great and the drinks just kept coming.Such a contrast between there and dirty Jamaica. It was obvious the Mexicans wanted you to remember your time there and want to come back. Cozumel, which I've been to multiple times was very nice as well but one warning, if you're going to rent a car or scooters, do it online ahead of time with a reputable agency, otherwise, you may get a broken down piece of junk for the same price. If you rent a car or scooters, you can go see the sights and then go relax at one of the beach clubs like Carlos and Charlies where the food is excellent, San Francisco Beach or Paradise Beach Club. You'll have a great time on the beach there and it's only about 20 minutes from the cruise ports. The shopping is very good at the port as well but kind of expensive. The days at sea were quite nice. Lost of games and activities on deck. Dining This is where this cruise left both my wife and I and many many other passengers disappointed. I've been on about ten cruises prior to this one, including the MSC Lirica back in 2005, and this is by far, the worst food I've ever experienced on a cruise ship. The food in the main dining room many nights was barely edible. Cream soups with no cream, lasagna on the Italian night that was truthfully not fit to serve to a dog. I'm not exaggerating just being truthful. The buffet was no better. The best and most consistent item of all the food in both the dining room and the buffet was the breads and some of the pastries. The coffee was the absolute worst coffee I have ever had. Many times I believe they reused old burnt coffee as that's what it tasted like and I love coffee! Another issue that plagued me ever meal in the dining room was that the salt was also wet and would not come out of the shakers. I had to open them every meal, pour salt onto a plate and finger season my food. Has anyone ever heard of a little rice in the shaker to absorb moisture? The buffet is laid out so oddly that you literally would have to walk the entire buffet, approximately 8-10 serving stations to determine what was available. The most consistent items on the buffet were hamburgers and hot dogs. Much of the fruit wasn't ripe, the desserts were few and far between that were really tasty and the Hollandaise sauce for the Eggs Benedict was marginal at best...not much flavor. Cream of Asparagas soup with tapioca in it...very strange and as I said before, no heavy cream. Believe me, I kept looking for something that was really tasty and the items were few and far between. We're not high society passengers and aren't that picky but the food just wasn't tasty and most of all it was poorly cooked or executed. Cream of Asparagus soup with tapioca in it...very strange and as I said before, no heavy cream. I would give the Executive Chef on this ship an EPIC FAIL!!!!! There is no way they could have been tasting the food being served in their dining rooms or buffet because they wouldn't have served it that way. Drink Package As one other review put it, the drink package was very limited. So much so that even a Bloody Mary which is basically just a Bloody Mary mix and vodka wasn't part of the package. I did manage to find a decent drink in a gin and tonic with a little lime cordial and a wedge of lime so I did enjoy those. I would have upgraded to the higher package but it would have been another $26 per day each for a total of an additional $572 which would have meant an addition $5-$10 each per day in gratuities making it near $1,000 to upgrade...no thank you! Entertainment The entertainment was overall good especially the poolside games and activities. My wife and I had been looking forward to dancing the night away at the disco but we found that the DJ was only catering to a Latin crowd and the volume was so loud it made our ears hurt. Don't get me wrong, I was a professional musician and like it pretty loud but this was over the top. The music the DJ played was as if he was in Miami playing for a latino crowd only and after we participated in the Karaoke on multiple nights after which the DJ would take over we could see others that wanted to dance too but the volume and lack of any variance in the music would drive them away. One night we were waiting and waiting wanting to dance and finally left after the DJ played 10+ latin songs that we didn't even recognize while blasting the volume to unreasonable levels. I understand and desire a mix so that everyone can enjoy and relate to the music being played. No...not looking for Glen Miller just maybe some Michael Jackson, NEO, Nelly, Sean Paul, Brittany Spears, Back Street Boys AC/DC, Aerosmith, Westlife, Coldplay etc but nothing...just boom boom boom latin music. I wanted to slap the DJ upside the head as this really took away something we were looking forward to on our cruise. Final Thoughts In all good conscience, I could not recommend this cruiseline to anyone because of the food. Everything else was within standards for a cruise ship and some things were even exceptional but the food was so sub-standard that I'd have to tell someone to pick another cruiseline and this wasn't only my thoughts but the thoughts of some German, Russian and New Zealand passengers that we had conversations with on the ship as well. We're not high society passengers and aren't that picky but the food just wasn't tasty and most of all it was poorly cooked or executed and there were a lot of little things like the salt shakers that were a continuous aggravation. The food along with the late night entertainment issues left me sorely disappointed and wanting for a better experience...especially for our honeymoon! Read Less

Hamburgers were good, pizza was ok. We ate a lot of both. Dinner menu was not very good. Left a lot to be desired. Fish meals not very good. Chicken meals ok. Ny strip steak was tough and grisly. Could not eat it. A lot of casserole dishes and bread. They fill you up with bread. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give them a 3 on all meals. Like I said you get what you pay for. Entertainment on a scale of 1 to 10 I give them a 2 or 3. Same group of people every night. I have seen high school students do better. 1 night the show was a 8 on scale of 1 to 10. Overall entertainment was lousy. PS If you want a cheap trip ok. If you want a good trip try another cruise line. Read Less

Beautiful ship. Much confusion about what was and not included In the drink package Most bar Staff were very nice a few not so much. We ate in upper Black Crab. Our Servers, Ramauldo and Duncan the very best we have had since a river cruise. They could not do enough for our party of 6. Food was hit or miss in dining room. Overall enjoyed the Cruise very much. We will most certainly do another MSC Cruise. THe Cruise Critic party was fantastic. Would suggest in the Buffet that they develop a better flow to the salad bar, always good selections but the crisscross was hetic at times. The taco bar needs a real salsa and guacamole, one nite at dinner an excellent guacamole was served. Bring it upstairs. The entertainment was fantastic, best dancer's at sea. Only wish some late venues would start at 10 not 2030 that extra half hour lags and once back in cabin some times stayed home. Enjoyed the international flavor, and was impressed how many families were on board. WE HAD FUN. Read Less

The dining room experience was amazing Alejandro Jefferson Blando and his companion were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We loved the shows which were so professional. We will definitely be sailing with MSC again The embarkation procedure was slick and stress free The food portions and quality was amvic The reception staff were efficient and professional We were booked on the second sitting for dinner which was 9.30pm which was a little to late but we still enjoyed it. The buffet was too crowded and the staff were not very efficient so we choose to dine at lunch times in the Black Crab restaurant and have the a la carte which was superd and beyond our expectations as last year we cruised with Princess cruises and there was no such option to do this MSC go all out to make you trip a great experience Read Less

We chose this cruise because the price was good and we needed a break. After reading reviews on MSC because we have a cruise booked for September on the Musica for a group of 20 people we thought it would give us an opportunity to see how bad it could possibly be. This was our 29th cruise with various cruise lines including Celebrity, RCL, Thomson, NCL Etc. And we should have known that everybody’s opinions and views do vary. So this is our thoughts on MSC and in particular the Divina. Yes the portions in the main dining room were on the small size but you only have to ask for more and if there was nothing you fancied, like on other cruise lines you could pick from the standard menu that was available every night. We had a drinks package and I have to say that there was no holding back on topping up our glasses. As far as the comment that the staff are not trained properly, we certainly found our waiters very efficient and pleasant, as of the rest of the crew thru out the ship. The language comments about everything being repeated 5 times could be a problem if you let it, cruise director before the evening show and safety drill were the only times we noticed it. The animation team were the best we have ever come across they worked really well as a team. The Divina is in a class of her own, the little bars with wonderful staff and nibbles if you were feeling peckish to the various musical performers. The layout is truly so well planned It’s a shame we are not on her in September. MSc have introduced a great system in the buffet (which other lines should look at) we really don’t use the buffets because of the amount of people and of course the pushing and shoving, unless we have missed the MDR times but we did use them occasionally this trip because the MSC system is that at busy times the head waiters are at the door and do not let people in until there colleagues tell them there is a table available. All in all very enjoyable trip, make up your own minds, your on holiday enjoy. Ports of call access, the port authority bus in Marseille was much further to walk to than previously so we took the ship transfer 16 € return, which is actually better because it takes you right into Centre. Genoa easy to walk off. Civitavecchia free port authority to drop off point which has moved back to where it used to be so not so far to walk to the station. Palermo and Cagliari easy to walk off. Palma they say they dock at further port but wait and see, normal dock which they are expanding you can walk off and get public transport number 1 into the city, if they do dock at the further pier then you can use the ticket that is left in your cabin, hand it in as you get on MSC transfer bus and it will be charged to your account. Well firstly the on board entertainment/activities was very poor from the last cruise I was on...the entertainment does not last long for people who don't do excursions...I got very bored on the ship...there is it enough music and dancing at the pool area....some scheduledscheduled activities didnt even take place...the entertainmet staff is not engaging enough... The casino system is very bad with the ticket system ...one would think that money would be loaded onto your card..and like myself who was could unaware lost 60 euros cause i didnt print a ticket....and the casino couldn't even tell me who then took the ticket out of the machine ...I'm sure the casino staff are very aware of this over site and has collected many unclaimed tickets for them selfs...this ship is just about marketing on board to make me money off passsagers and less worried about the passengers enjoyment....the rule that all passangers sharing the all inclusive drinks package is a total indecation of this...my cabin partner was not a drinker so why do both need to make the purchase, I find that totaly unaceptable and gready of MSC to make more money... .other than that the ship itself is very good and the food is great.....and the lack of staff understandings English is not a good thing Read Less

I'll try to keep this as simple as I can. The ship is clean and beautiful. Great Mediterranean itinerary. We liked our balcony room and very nice steward. It was noisy and not a lot of sound proofing, but I expected that. Food was not great, usual crowded cattle buffet, usual cruise ship food that never really knocks it out of the park unless you pay extra for a specialty restaurant. Not sure what all the complaints of "rude Europeans" and different language announcements are about. That was not an issue for us, and I enjoyed being around passengers from different places. What's the point of traveling!?That is where the positives stop. I gotta say, should have heeded the reviews. I thought everyone giving negative reviews of Divina were just hard to please and too picky since we had a great time on other negatively-reviewed ships. Well, this time they are right. This cruise line advertises the Divina as a large ship with an endless amount of activities, lounges/venues, and dining options. That's all well and good, but they DO NOT have the staffing or QUALITY of staff to pull it off, aside from entertainment. Everyone seemed to only sort-of know what they were doing and were unable to answer or solve passenger questions, even simple ones like, "Hi, can I use my drink coupon here?" Yes, we researched where we could use our coupons and what was included, but once on the ship a lot of things were ambiguous. And no it was not a language barrier. All the spaces were too busy and obviously overwhelmed the staff. And why have visible bar/server spaces if you don't want people to walk up there for a drink? Sorry, but no one came to us after 30 minutes so we thought we were supposed to go up to you! In the end, I felt bad for THEM, not for me. It must feel awful to want to do your job, but not be provided with the resources to do so. I think this is what leads to less smiles and poor service, not that they are "European" as some reviewers theorize. Excursions: We received tickets for excursions each evening with ambiguous instructions. You had to read your ticket AND refer to the daily program to get the info, and then get even more information at your meeting place. Even then some important details we only overheard. Just put all the info with the ticket and where to show up outside the ship like Royal Caribbean. No crowds or groups herded out all at once. This is one of MANY counter-intuitive processes on this ship. Another sour note was watching an elderly couple asking to go just a minute ahead of our disembarkation group because she had mobility issues. Nope, wouldn't accommodate (or the employee wasn't practical/knowledgeable enough to make that call) and they were herded out in the huge crowd. Just let them go! When staff know what they are doing and are confident in the processes, they know when to make exceptions. The website is a whole other issue. I canceled a couple of excursions and internet packages well before the cruise for both of us and only got reimbursed for one person. It's been 2 months and 4 phone calls and they still haven't refunded as promised. Compared to other big-ship cruise lines, MSC has a LONG way to go to sort out their processes and staff quality. Staff deserve good training, and paying passengers deserve well-trained staff. Come on MSC, step it up. If you can't, then put a disclaimer in the booking that states you can't promise the services advertised. Read Less

The ship MSC Divina was absolutely beautiful the excursions great but the crew and entertainment crew including the performances at night... poor the crew was rude and seemed tired or not like they wanted to be there didn't see much smiles from anyone of them so disappointed! The on board activities wasn't fun so I don't know what I should say about it. I was on a local cruise about two years ago in the MSC Sinfonia and Opera and I can say that the Divina crew should go learn from them! They were so much fun the activities and the performances was tops! There was so much to do that we had to cancel some things just so that we could join the entertainment crew. On the Divina we were looking for something else to do because the entertainment was so useless. And you also wait for ever to catch a lift to go to another floor, on some of the other ships I've been on had no problem with that... just saying you guys need to step up your game! Read Less

My second transatlantic cruise. I had a great experience last year on another company. This year friends invited me to go back on a transatlantic and experience MSC Divina. Could not been worse. To start with there was a lot of people with a very bad cold. I got a cold. The doctor on the sheep was kind of okay. The nurse touch my prescription tablets with her bare hands. The food from the “food court” was so boring. There was a mix of food smells that was very unpleasant. The egg station iwas so egg smelling. I eat and like eggs. However did not eat any because the smell was so strong. The paid restaurants are all italians. Entertainment? maybe two or three nights at the theater were okay. The service on the cabins and the waiters was good. The employees at the guest service could not been more rude. I had a very derespectful person when I went to ask them to take out a case of wine out from my billing because i did not bought any wine. He was defiant and made me feel like I had no right to make a complain. I do not have space here to write about my friend’s walker that did not make to the ship from Fort Lauderdale port. They underestimate the passagens capacity and/ or intelligence. Did not enjoy at all. I do not recomend and now I do not want to go even in another cruise line because I am afraid to have the same bad experience. Read Less

Overall I rate our experience as poor. Here are some details. The entertainment shows, we felt had too much opera singing, it felt like it only appealed to a niche audience and didn’t appeal to the larger group. I think people were interested in seeing more flavorful acting, dancing and regular music from 50s, 60s or 70s, so we could sing along. We waited too long for waiter service, and throughout dinner he was continuously rude. Also the whole order of things seemed very disorganized, like an afterthought....extremely slow service. Also, sometimes people have custom requests, this seemed entirely impossible with your staff. Specifically when asking for salad or soup first, the wait staff seemed inflexible, and that made us feel more like a number and less like a valued customer. Then, when I tried to rent a movie in my room, more problems trying to stream it, unfortunately we were charged for movie that took two days to watch as it kept going off and the screen kept pixelating and freezing. We then went to the front desk to report about the movie problems. The desk staff refused to credit the fee, denying our problems, and also made us feel belittled...sayingthat we were the problem, insisting it played ok, almost accusing us of lying, which of course we would not. This made us feel uncomfortable and not happy or vacation like. Also we went for an off boat excursion, they took us out on a bus, but nobody was given any clear instructions on now to get back. How upsetting for the group of us. We soon realized, to our dismay that after the tour, we were stranded in a foreign country. A few us us decided to take a taxi to get back to the boat, at our own expense, which was terrible because it seemed appropriate the the bus would pick us up at the same place. The Who experience was full of stress, rudeness and disappointment. I hope you take this review to heart and improve your guest experience. Thanks for reading this. Read Less
