While I realize I may be a little bias having sailed on the Conquest last year (a lot larger and a lot more updated) I found the Elation to be boring. While I understand that the cruise line could not control the weather (raining), the activities throughout the day were few and far between or downright boring. Bingo seemed to be the going theme on this cruise (which of course was an extra charge.) ...
Here are the particulars: my wife, myself, our 19 year old daughter, her friend, our 16 year old son and his friend took the Carnival Elation out of Mobile on August 13th for the five night jaunt to Progresso and Cozumel. My wife and I had a double inside cabin (U203) and the kids had a quad inside (M174). We drove from Indiana (about 12 hours) stopping at a Homewood Suites in Montgomery on the ...
If you don't care about shelling out money left and right, than this is the cruise for you! My 3 girlfriends and I (all 30 yrs old) took a "Girls Trip" aboard the Carnival Elation this past weekend. All but one of us were "cruise virgins". I can honestly say that I was ready to go home by the second day.
Drinks: The price of the cruise is great if you don't drink alcohol. For those of you ...
We booked this 5-day cruise as a last minute getaway. We are Diamond on RCI, but decided to give Carnival a try since Mobile is close enough to drive to and this itinerary included Calica, which would give us a chance to visit Xcaret. We were curious to see what differences there might be between Carnival and RCI.
Embarcation was pretty standard, with the glaring exception that both my ...
Let me start by saying I didn't expect a luxury cruise. I was well aware that I booked a bargain basement cruise out of Mobile and have enough experience to know that this isn't going to be a high end experience. The good news is that it's exactly what I expected.... A decent ship, with mediocre food, mediocre entertainment and lots of activities aimed at making you spend money. I STILL had a good ...
My husband and I decided to take a little trip before I head back to school this week. We debated between Vegas and other types of trips, and ultimately decided the value of a cruise was difficult to beat. We have sailed two previous times with Carnival and decided to embark from a different port other than Galveston just for fun.
HOTEL AND DRIVING
It was about a 10 hour drive from DFW ...
We sailed on the Elation out of Mobile, Al on Jan 10-15, 2011 in hopes of going to Cozumel and Calica. Our ship was set to sail at 4:00 p.m., however, we did not depart until after 5:00 p.m. They made an announcement, saying the delay was due to a maintenance issue. The first night everything was as usual on a cruise, however, the second night we all heard a very loud crashing sound. The ship ...
Parking
It was freezing cold as low as 29F at Mobile, AL when we got there around noon. We dropped our luggage at the terminal (make sure you print your luggage tags and have them stapled and ready) and proceeded to the parking structure. The terminal charges $15 per cruise night (not per the actual 24hr term) thus we paid $60 on entering the parking structure.
Embarkation

This was my third Carnival cruise and while the ship was the nicest ship of theirs I have sailed on, it was by far the worst trip I've taken. Since destinations can vary for ships covering different parts of the world, I will only critique the ship and our time on it. Our stops were Progresso and Cozumel, Mexico. We did not book any excursions through the cruise line, so that will also not be ...
