Having sailed numerous times with NCL, MSC, RCI and P&O I was more than happy with my recent cruise with Marella especially after reading some of the reviews. Flight, transfer and embarkation to our cabin was the best I have ever encountered, all well planned and trouble free. The ship is smaller than the others I have sailed on but every facility is available. The food was amazing, we ate in 47 and gallery 47 mostly but did try the island restaurant a few times for lunch. Choice of food was very good. The excursion were not too expensive although the one we were on to Bethlehem could have been better planned as we did not get to go to crypt due to delay in departing from the ship, this was very disappointing as other trips did get to see the crypt. Our cabin was a junior suite on deck 8 which was very spacious. One of the best features of this cruise was the entertainment, every night there was different shows in the theatre as well as an abundance of other bars for live bands and singers. We will most definitely be sailing with Marella again Read Less

We were a group of 2 married couples. We boarded the discovery with absolute ease everything run so professionally. Our cabin was ready on arrival we had only an indoor cabin on deck 2 which suited our needs perfectly. Enough room and everything that was needed. The ship was easy to navigate around and plenty of information and personnel around if you got lost We dined in the waiter service restaurant which was just like eating in a 5* restaurant every morning and evening. Entertainment was always available and was really good. We did a few excursions and again information was given and disembarking was carried out in a professional and organised way. The staff on the ship were amazing, every single one never did we see a miserable face and never greeted without a smile. The captain Chris Dodds does an outstanding job, he is an ever presence around the ship always taking time to stop and chat and made everyone on the ship feel special. Restaurant manager Kenan was always around with a smiling face and happy to help. Absolutely loved our cruise and would recommend to anyone Read Less

We choose this cruise for the itinerary and dates we are available to travel. The cruise sailed from Muscat, taking in a short visit to Salalah, Oman, then up to Jordan for 3 days/2 nights in Aqaba, for Petra, the Dead Sea, Wadi Rum, then through the Suez Canal, around to Israel, Ashdod, for Jerusalem and Bethlehem, then over to Kefalonia and finally disembarking in Corfu. Unfortunately, after booking we discovered there would be no time to go ashore in Muscat, as we sailed early the following morning, and soon after booking we were advised that the Dead Sea trip from Aqaba was cancelled due to road conditions. We were disappointed but understand these things happen, so added an excursion to a 5 star hotel in Aqaba for a beach day instead. We had a great flight out in Premium on the Dreamliner, Muscat airport was easy and we were onboard quickly. The whole process smooth and efficient. We had an aft cabin, pre-booked and it was spacious, clean, comfortable, but I have to say on occasion noisy from the engine's, vibration was bad some nights, and yes, you do get a little soot on the balcony, there's nothing you can do about that, just don't wear white! The steward cleaned it daily. I'm not complaining, just pointing it out. The ship was full I think. Hard to get a sun bed. Or a seat in the atrium. Nowhere really for some peace and quiet, we were glad of our large balcony. Bar 11 was lovely for evening cocktails, we preffered the buffet for evening meals as we found the MDR very busy, squashed together and brightly lit, and actually didn't rate the meals there apart from breakfast and Beef Wellington. The surf and turf was excellent, you need to book as soon as you can! The excursions were a bit manic. They were long days in high temperatures which we were prepared for, but felt really rushed, the guides all knowledgeable and friendly, but a little inflexible. We were awed by some of the places we visited, but just didn't have time to appreciate them. Destination Services on board were rude and unhelpful, and you had the feeling they didn't care once they'd got your money! Many people complained about various issues on various trips, but I don't think there's been any resolution. If you can, book privately or go it alone. There was a mix of entertainment, both day and night, a great comedian, opera singer, guy with a guitar, we didn't do the shows but heard they were good, just not our thing. Most of the staff are fabulous, friendly, helpful, with one or two exceptions. The food was good and varied and mostly hot (except strangely chilled poached eggs in the MDR on the last morning for breakfast!!) As I said we preferred the buffet, snack shack was great for lunch, glass house for snacks in the evening. Plenty of choice of drinks on the standard AI, though we paid extra for a fancy cocktail or coffee occasionally. Overall though, we felt extremely lucky to be able to do this cruise, visit the places we went to (we will go back independently), enjoyed our sea days with a book and a view of the wake, dolphins, stars, and our adventures on shore. The ship was still having the occasional engine/electrical problems, so we lost some time in ports too. Read Less

The ship is well maintained for its age. We were on every deck, as we love walking and noticed staff everywhere trying to maintain high standards. Excellent Staff, Delicious dining options, Fresh Fruits available in the Buffet. The assigned seating at dinner was picture perfect. We had a table at the front of the Dining Room with excellent sunset view every evening. Massage experience was divine and the health bar was a plus. The gym is huge with all the newest equipment and you can track your workout progress with an app connected to the equipment. The ship excursion were a bit disorganized and we had some minor issues. The wifi was dependable, just make sure you get the unlimited package as you wont regret it. Our room attendant was unbelievable and the room itself was awesome. Although you will have to pay for all the extras, it was not that bad. We will return Read Less

I chose to go on the Dubai to Valletta cruise onboard MV Oceana because having cruised so much I wanted new ports, the ports were restrictive for powerchair and Wheelchair users but still a good time. The ship is probably the worst in P&O,s fleet as it has poor access to open decks and some of the disabled toilets are difficult to open and some toilet seats don’t stay up but temper this disappointment with a friendly staff and first class food. My own cabin B312 had two broken lights, one faulty one and the bedside lights were erratic at best, service in the dining room was slow though this did improve. I just wish the ships accessibility had been addressed at her last refit, the captain and crew are a gem and need a better fitted resource. The theatre has an area at the back for wheelchairs and scooters but latecomers to the theatre consistently crowd you and spoil the experience, time the entertainment staff did something about it and I also had concerns over safety due to it ( is it a fire safety breach) Read Less

This cruise had a brilliant itinerery but was let down by both food and entertainment on the ship. The food was of not very good quality in either restaurant or in buffet. If you liked fish you would be ok as it was cooked in just about every way you could think of and ways you have'nt heard of. It didn't even look like fish as most of time either in oil, batter or mixed in something. Salads were couscous based and same salami cheese and lettuce every day. On a good note soups were alright up until last day when we got potato and leek soup with clams and mussels. Never heard of this before. Pizza, fries and gravy saved the day most of the time. Sweets were the best it was only hot food that no one could seem to cook properly. The crew as you would expect were brilliant and we made friends and would banter with them on daily basis. Cabins were ample for what you need storage, furnishings and bed, that was very comfy. The lady that looked after our room was great and looked after us daily. The ship is very nice, clean and very easy to get round but entertainment was not best. Pianos, opera singers ok if you like that sort of thing. Alison the lady doing port info was very good. The shows because of about 8 different languages very limited what they could do on stage. The variety shows were ok but mostly opera and classical on in theatre at night. We used msc trips twice and both were very well organised and worth money but the ship seems to be a bit disorganized. Getting off ship was a nightmare. Would we go again. NO Read Less

We chose the cruise for the itinerary, particularly the Suez transit, and the fact nearly all ports were firsts for us, as was MSC. The ship was very clean and extremely smooth, cabins adequate though shower curtain in bathroom was extremely annoying as it sticks to you due to the tiny area! Had two days to explore Dubai before boarding then overnight on board too so crammed in lots of sights, nice to be berthed close to the old Creek, very interesting with the boats busting up and down. Embarkation was smooth and was nice to be moved straight to Black tier due to our status on Royal Caribbean, gaining us some nice benefits including a four course lunch with wine, bottle of fizz in cabin and chocolate covered strawberries to name a few! Surprised to find that fellow passengers who had cruised with them many times got no rewards however, wouldn’t inspire my loyalty! Sadly missed Sir Bani Yas due to weather but Muscat was beautiful, the Grand Mosque was one of the highlights of the trip, luckily we arrived very early when it was quiet. Exciting five days at sea with security guards patrolling due to piracy threat and then into Eilat, the only slightly disappointing port, snorkelling not as good as expected. Petra was fabulous, took the ship trip which we thought was very good value and the lunch was superb. The walk in and out was hard but rewarding and far more to see than expected, we got a good overview in the time we had and scenery was beautiful on the journey too. Suez transit did not disappoint, watched from start, at sunrise, to finish. Wonderful experience and one to tick off the bucket list. Once we were in the Med it was like a second cruise, weather cooler and off every day so a busy last week. We missed Athens due to the weather but I personally preferred the alternative of Corfu, Kotor was amazing and we completed the climb up to the monastery at midday which nearly killed us. Split was interesting, yes they have their own currency but so do we, wasn’t a problem. Concluded the trip with two days in Venice which was lovely, covered most of the city with a 48 hour bus and vaparetto pass, very impressive public transport. The two days in hotels were just right, all done as a package from Cruise 1st. The food.....uninspiring, bland and unimaginative. If, as we were told, the executive chef is Italian then he should be ashamed of himself, never saw a leaf of basil once! I would at least expect my dining room meal to be better than I could cook myself and 60% of the time it wasn’t. As for not providing jugs of water on the dining table I have never heard of such a stupid rule, we just took a bottle of water in every evening but a great way to alienate your customers. The pastries, cakes and puddings were very nice but in general service wasn’t great in the restaurant or buffet. Pizza was excellent but only four types over 20 days... Evening shows with dancers were brilliant, as were musicians round the ship though opera singers a bit screechy. Other entertainment was childish, hysterical and noisy, must be an Italian thing. Very little trivia and the constant six language announcements make you lose the will to live after a while. It was nice to have such a wide variety of nationalities on board though. Onboard speaker Alison Hypher was exceptional, just what you need on a cruise with such a varied itinerary. She struck the perfect balance between historical fact and useful information, could not recommend her highly enough. The coffee shop was nice, reasonably priced with friendly staff, and I did like the outdoor area at the back of the buffet to sit and eat. I got the impression that service in general is take it or leave it, senior staff tend to avoid eye contact rather than say hello and was surprised to see staff smoking or drinking in public areas. Did not like the smoking in the pub which permeates far beyond. For the price we paid this was a fantastic adventure but I feel MSC could improve vastly in the areas mentioned. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was good value for money. It was a very good deal and it included our flights with Emirates to Dubai return from New Zealand. We arrived 2 days before departure to explore the city of Dubai. Embarkation was smooth. We were allocated a time to embark( 6 pm) which we did. The suitcases didn't arrived till midnight which was a pain. Our cabin was an inner cabin on Bella. Good bed but they were fold up bunk beds close to the sides of the main bed and I had hit my head a few times on that. We did a back to back cruise, so after the 20 days , there was a 4 day cruise and we were given an other cabin just 3 door further up the corridor, that room was bigger and had no fold up beds above the sides. The ship itself I think is beautiful, a nice size, not too big. We had booked all excursions beforehand online with the MSC excursions. This way it was cheaper but also safer to be with an MSC excursion. We loved it and learned so much. The food at the buffet was always plenty and the only thing I didn't like was the masses of people trying to get in and get a table was a nightmare, but once you found a table you need to leave a coat over your chair or it would be gone again. I once was on my own, had got myself a coffee and something else, and I just went to get something else, a quick hot chocolate from the machine and when I came back all the other stuff was taken away by staff, I hadn't even started drinking it, but I had not left my coat on the chair. We always had dinner at Hippocampus restaurant downstairs. The meals were very nice and good portions, not too big and not too small. 3 course meal and you were full. We loved our staff there, Christian from Honduras, and Alex from Kiev. I am concerned , though, that the staff is being overworked and underpaid. They were often very tired. They seem to get only 4 hours of sleep at night and maybe a couple of hours during the day. That's not much rest. Our cabin steward was Argus from Indonesia, a was very friendly and loyal and did his work really well. Always smiling and always asking how we were. We travelled with an other couple, friends from our hometown. I would definitely go again but not take that back to back cruise with the 4 extra days( we did it because it had an excursion to San Marino) but the people were completely different folks. Mainly Europeans that brought their whole family, kids, babies and strollers. They would very loud and often rude, pushing their way to the front of a queue like with the buffet on deck 11, it was a nightmare to try and eat there. I because sick and tired of the throngs of people. During the 20 days sailing from Dubai to Venice, we had a nice mix, quite a few Aussies, UK people, 20 NZ-ders, and some French and Italians and a lot of Germans and a handful of Dutch. It looked more like a cruise designed for your average income type people, definitely not upper class. But to us that was ok, it was a fantastic cruise and you get what you pay for. The critics I have heard review this ship are expecting a highest standard like silverline cruises for the price of a " backpackers" type cruise to put it this way, which is unfair. I think MSC Lirica is fine as long as you know if it was cheap, don't expect too much, but for us it was enough, and fine we saw a good chunk of the world. The shows were great, we went most nights. The other musicians also very good. We didn't buy a drinks package but just went and bought drinks as we had dinner. The laundry personal service for your own laundry is quite outrages expensive. It was 30 euro for a bag with 20 items, if it wasn't 20 items you got it back dirty again, so it HAD TO BE 20 items. Then it would be washed and folded the next day. Why don't they have a laundrette service where you can put in your clothes in a washing machine? My answer is: It is a cheap cruise and they have to make money somehow. Also half of the passengers all got sick with a very bad cough, that was after we had gone through the Suez Canal and came out in the freezing wind of the Mediterranean. A doctors visit on the ship will put you back 100 euros. Luckily my own doctor had give me my own anti biotics and so I was ok. But I had to visit the ship doctor for a skin condition, that was 100 euros. But the doctor was very good. All in all, I would do this again( not the back to back 4 day cruise ) and maybe go on a different route. Read Less

We choose this ship for the iternary but it was awful. The food was really bad, the dining room was like a cafe and none of the food was very hot. We had a balcony room which was much smaller than other cruise lines and there was a fault with all balcony doors on our side of the ship (port) they wouldn't open. The steward showed us how you had to bash the top of the door before it would release. The general areas the air con was very cold and you couldnt sit anywhere without a cardigan or jumper. Lots of people were going down with colds and chest infections. My husband got pneumonia and spent the night in the hospital on board ship and the next day the doctor said he would like us to go to the local hospital for a chest x-ray and blood tests which we did. We were met at the hospital by the port agent who said that MSC would not let my husband back onboard, the x-ray etc was just a ruse to get him off the ship. The port agent found me a hotel near the hospital which was nothing less than a DSS hotel. The landlady showed me how to put a chair under my door for safety. When I went back to the ship to collect our luggage I had to see the guest services manager. She said that I had to sign a form saying we were getting off the ship voluntarily. I said this was not the case, she said that I had to sign the form otherwise they couldn't release our passports in other words blackmail. When I got back to our room to pack the mini bar was already locked and i found on the cabin bill I had been charged for drinks, I said that this wasn't the case as we had all inclusive drinks package. The guest services manager said that we would have to pay the bill. I was also stopped at the gangplank as they had to make sure that I didn't owe money this was done in front of about 20 people. The port agent never contacted me I had to contact them, I was in a country where I didn't speak English, husband in hospital and could only speak to insurance company on a mobile for 12 days. As far as the port agents know I am still in Corfu. Don't rely on port agents being any help. Read Less

We choose this cruise for its itinerary and a very competiive price. We have 21 cruises behind us and this was our third with Costa so we knew what could be expected and not. Embarkation in Dubai after 6 pm was very swift, no doubt helped by the fact that many passengers had already boarded the day before in Abu Dhabi. The ship may be a bit old but is kept tidy and is in a good condition. Our cabin ,a Balcony Premium, on the fith deck was perhaps a bit on the small side but quite okay and always kept tidy by our Philippino steward. .Announcements onboard are made in several languages and english is always one of them. In addition hostesses for english speaking passengers as well as german, french and spanish passengers were availble daily for those who needed assistance. We dined in the main restaurant on the upper deck, very noisy indeed. Slow service the first couple of nights but the service improved a bit during the cruise. Since our last Cruise with Costa in 2016 it they appear to have made cuts and waiter and assistant waiter are no more instead a single "food and beverage server". In our case he had three tables with18 guests. That our fellow passengers prefered 5 course dinners made the dinners rather lenghty. We had breakfast and lunch in the main restaurant most days and were fairly satisfied with both food and service. We tried the buffet restaurant at times it was less crowded. Food acceptable but nothing more. Entertainment in the main theater at best average, For those who like dancing a Costa cruise must be the right place with a lot of dancing opportunities in different lounges and on deck ,often at the same time Through Costa we took part in shore exursions in Muscat a sightseeing, in Salalah a visit to a beach resort, In Aqaba a visit to Petra, in Eilat a visit to a beach resort and finally in Katakolon a visit to Olympia. Pleased with all excursions and by and large pleased with our cruise although many things could for sure have been better.. Disembarkment in Savona was fast and we were off the ship in no time at all. A buss transfer purchased onboard took us to Nice for a couple off nights before returning back home. . . Read Less

Nice ship! RC obviously have their ship design sorted and Marella now own a nice/modern ship. It isn’t a monster either and we like ships this size. We’d prefer this ship over P&O’s Oriana and Aurora and it’s that much ‘nicer’. Shame about the buffet being at the front where every other ship puts a bar: Many tables weren’t available due to people being sat at the windows with a glass of orange juice just to watch the world go by. The ship. Looks and is very nice. Great to walk around, shiny and well maintained. Humorous captain and most of the crew very attentive. The culture on our sea-day intensive cruise was lovely & laid back. The main restaurant was good; 3 courses for all and the house wine or Prosecco please. We enjoyed our 2 weeks aboard, one week of which was at sea (we love sea days). The enrichment talks and presentations on board were great (Astronomy/Space, Piracy, belly dancing lessons and others) and the trips ashore to Petra, Wadi Rum and Spinalonga were a proper cultural immersion. Shame about the extremely average food at Spinalonga. (we didn’t order the rain either but we didn’t complain to Marella about that…) Marella forcibly entertain you. Most of the entertainment is in your face. There is some (usually good) music and performance in the Atrium but it is often overpowered by the performance from the live room, itself sometimes overpowered from the music in the Squid & Anchor. Ordering your cocktails from the all-inclusive menu? Don’t worry about the alcohol content as they all will be short-measured. Our cabin, 6500, was over the entertainment at the front of the ship. Early nights were a nightmare of music, music and music, courtesy of the Squid & Anchor. On one occasion we had to wait an hour between starter and main course. We had to be blunt with the restaurant manager whose staff kept telling us ‘it’s on its way’ so many times… The buffet was just a buffet. The bacon was unsmoked, the sausages mundane. (The moussaka was great!) The afternoon tea was OK; you could tell we weren’t sailing Cunard. Oh, we also liked having ‘technical problems’ a couple of days before Oman. We enjoyed the ship cruising far more slowly and having an extra night on board Read Less

We are a couple in our early 60s and experienced cruisers. We chose this cruise based on ports of call and price. This was our 4 th cruise on Msc. We did not realize then there are some distinct differences when sailing in Europe. There was no tap water, iced tea or coffee offered in the dining room. You can purchase wine or mineral water. The stateroom we chose included free mineral water and 24 drink coupons which lasted us the 17 days. We did purchase the coffee package but that had to be used in the lounges. We did miss coffee with dessert. The ship was disappointing. It was beautiful and clean but very crowded. The buffet was always jammed, and a lounge by the pool an impossible dream. On formal nights, it was impossible to find seats in the public areas. The cabin was small and the shower tiny with the clinging plastic curtain. The food was good and occasionally great but the beef was always tough. The vegetarian entrees were surprisingly good. Portions were small but we often ordered 3 entrees plus salad and soup and felt well fed. On the plus side, service in the dining room was excellent and our waiter readily offered alternate choices if the entree proved unsatisfactory. Robes were only provided in the premium cabins and our steward could not be bribed into finding one. Over all, the cruise was very good and an excellent value. The ports were fascinating and just mingling with the European passengers was very interesting. We would definitely chose MSC again but perhaps not that ship. Read Less

We choose.this cruise in hopes of seeing all that Egypt has to offer and its amazing history and culture. We flew from the US thus the flight time and time difference leave you a little out of sync. Getting test is critical and being organized is a priority. We felt safe during our travels as many safety features are in place. We were able to visit many ket sites that are simply amazing. The Egyptian people are very friendly and want to see a smile on your face. The River Cruise has and outdated ship but very clean. Our main gaol on the ship was to rest and dine. We did not go to Egypt to party and stay up late. The Kitchen Staff goes out of their way all the time on every meal this was surprising the food was good. My only request was that they would offer a package of beverages for free outside of water, tea, or coffee. All drinks are very expensive a small coke cost over 2 dollars. Forget the minibar just water. The rooms were very clean and the service was great. The Bus Rides to destination only offered water traffic was and issue. The 4 seasons Hotel is amazing great rooms make sure you get a high floor to avoid the street noise the Italian restaurant is the best. Pick up to the airport and back was good except for departure you have to leave 4 hours prior to flight. My concern with this trip is we made 4 stops to visit local stores with 30 people on the bus this was a waste of time as we did not travel this far to go to stores they should make this optional I would have rather been at the hotel resting. My biggest concern was when we had locals attached their boat outside our rooms screaming out our window for 45 minutes to buy stuff which was a little to much and concerning. This was on our first day and it happened twice with 2 different boats. I called the front desk multiple times and they told me both time it would take 5 minutes which was not the case. Being upset and concerned about our safety, privacy, and lack of sleep having someone attached to your boat outside your room I was hoping for a more proactive response. The Hotel Manager spoke to me during dinner but his response left a lot to be desired. I mentioned we had flown over 15 hours and the last thing we need is to have someone screaming outside our room latched on to the boat. The Boat crew was over the top nice we had no issues with any one for lack of service. After the first day we had no more issues with the small boats attaching to our Ship. I tried to share in a diplomatic way that we did not travel this far to go into 4 stores with 30 people having to waste about 4 hours time when there is so much more you can be doing that is much more logical. Most of the folks buying stuff was trinkets for friends or family members that you could buy all over the streets of Egypt. Coming from the states were we could buy almost anything from Amazon delivered to your doorstep this was the opposite experience wait fore ever for people to get in and off a bus to go into a store were you are flooded around not having a clue what you are looking at or what it is worth and why the heck do you need it. Everywhere you go in on the Tour you have people trying to sell you stuff our tour guide even thought it was a good idea to have some of the folks come on some mini cruises with us amazing. As far as Egypt is concerned we felt very safe except for the cruise having the boat attached to us. The People are very nice there is a lot of poverty thus they try there best to make a living selling tourist trinkets, garments, it is a rich culture with and amazing history. The River Cruise is well balanced the meals are amazing and the guest blended in well with the crew. The Guides should probably do powerpoint presentations or have in room videos of your daily events for preparation and learning. Having a lecture outside for 30 minuets in the Egypt heat is not good a couple of people passed out. Some of the tours are challenging the guide does not let you know until the day you are there. I do not know if we are spoiled or just take things for granted but with a little coaching this great group of people can have a much more positive outcome for folks who traveled so far to see there great country. the sites were amazing we were blessed with great guest from all over the US and Australia. I only wish we did not waste so much time doing things like leaving 4 hours early to the Airport at Midnight with no traffic or stopping at stores. I am hoping this review helps the folks at UNIWORLD Develop a better game plan as I thing we wasted 2 days of time which is 20 percent of our vacation doing things that could have been avoided. I also heard other guest mentioned that a uniform tip would be helpful rather than having to make multiple stops at banks to pay the Bus driver, Tour guide, Hotel staff etc. Yes we also spent over 1 hour stoping at banks for people to get off the bus to go to a ATM. In summary Egypt is a great place to visit we felt the people were great we only wish that the organization four this amazing country for a tourist to visit had more detail prior to tours and less shopping. I also thing the guides should be more helpful telling the street vendors to give us some space. We enjoyed the places we visited on the cruise but not the ship - food was not great, very poor maintenance with rust everywhere, things broken and missing including furniture and chairs in lounges and public areas, and the office staff and management uncaring and not obliging. It lacked the lounges and bars and the forward located crow’s nest outlook of the smaller Holland America boats. Alcohol was very expensive and only Diamond status past passengers could access the happy hour prices – a very discriminatory restriction on the bulk of the 3,000 passengers on board. The starboard side of many decks (promenade, pool and bistro and the upper most exercise deck) plus the casino were approved for smoking and you were constantly getting fumigated. When you were at the office and the nearby lounge tobacco smoke flowed into these areas and the internal atrium space which had most of the limited lounges and the shops. Our Viator tour of Jerusalem and the Dead Sea was delayed 2 hours as RCL was so disorganized that they refused to let off non RCL tours for 2 hours and 4 of the 14 people on our tour could not get off until passengers marched down to the ship’s office and loudly demanded to get off. We had got off at 7:45 AM and just walked through with the ship’s tours and insisted as we had an 8:30 tour booked! RCL blamed the Israeli Immigration people for not having sufficient staff on duty but this was not the case as the Immigration hall had roughly 250 passengers in it and we went through in 20 minutes and there was only a trickle of passengers walking through Immigration from 8:45 till 9:45 AM when RCL finally let the non ship tours passengers pour off the ship. The result for us and many others tours was that we hit the peak period of the day for visits to the Christian and Jewish quarters of Jerusalem with massive crowds on day tours from huge number of bus tours and other tourists. The head waiter in our area of the restaurant looking after dozens of tables was really excellent however Florina could not despite her continued best efforts do anything with the product she was provided by the kitchen – she took all 6 of us on a complementary tour one day of the kitchens and she and our 2 wait staff looked after us very well just a pity about the food quality and the rest of the ship. I have taken more than 40 cruises and this cruise was by far the best. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff and you were always greeted in a pleasant greeting. Everything worked from the checking in to the disembarkment. Food was amazing, entertaining the best I have ever seen. I never really attend the shows as they are not worth going to but this cruise it was outstanding. Well done. Ports of call were great and the talks were well worth attending. 5 stars and thank you Celebrity for an amazing itinerary I loved every port of call and the immigration process in India was stress free a great deal of preparation was put in place to ensure it ran smoothly and the communication to the process was well documented. We had an inside cabin on the 3rd floor near reception which was very central and also very very quiet. Reception was amazing and Dinner waiters Pasha and Sunil who served us was also 5 stars. Yes, Legend of the Seas is old and yes stocks were running low, I get that, but people who booked on the last few legs knew what they were in for. I get tired of all the complaints about these things, we all knew what we were getting. I thoroughly enjoyed my last cruise on this fine lady of the seas under the Royal brand and everything she is about. I love the vision class ships and are sad to see her go. I hope the new owners treat her with the love and care she deserves. The crew worked hard to make our cruise a pleasure and most of the shows were good. The food was still cooked well and maintained the quality we have come to know. Cruising is a mixed bag, we don't know what we are going to get, but it is our job to make the most of it and enjoy it and accept that sometimes things just don't go the way we want it to. Read Less

We chose this cruise 2 years ago for the different port it was offering. We had never been to India, or Sri Lanka so now was the time. The ports were underwhelming and though we knew that India would be dirty we were surprised at the level of rubbish left lying around with no need at all for it. The ship may be older but was clean and take into consideration it is going to dry dock in a few months time there are worse ships out at sea at present. The ships entertainers were the best we have seen for a long time and their new productions shows make a refreshing change. Guest entertainers - well its hard to please so many nationalities. The Food could be better and is not as good as has been In the past and portions could definitely be slashed in half. According to one chef the portion control is down to "Miami", well stop cutting corners elsewhere and provide smaller tastier dishes again. The service from the crew was brilliant as always Read Less

We had an aqua class cabin, which allows us to eat at Blu restaurant. We loved it. Much more quiet than the main dining room. Service is slower than MDR which allows us to drink our wine slowly and enjoy a good cup of herbal tea. We never felt rushed. BLU by itself is worth the extra. Cabins size is the same has regular veranda. Love the Celebrity cabins. A lot of storage for clothes and also in the bathroom. Nightly entertainment was excellent except for 1 night. Unfortunately, we had to use the medical facility. Staff were amazing. Doctor and nurses were quick to answer our needs. We now feel more secure knowing the medical staff is so good. We had lunch at the buffet few times and each time we had a hard time getting a waiter to order beer and wine. We had to go to the bar d get the drinks ourself. We took 1 shore excursion with the ship in New Mangalore and we loved it. No shoping stop. Guide was excellent and interesting. We already booked our next cruise in an aqa class cabin! Ship needs a liitle update! Read Less

We chose this cruise because I wanted to go to India and my husband did not. With this cruise I got to see some of India, but he got to eat and sleep on the ship. Many of the ports were very similar with nothing outstanding to see. The one excursion we took through the ship was in Phuket - Phang Nga Bay. The day was rainy. I thought if the weather was too bad Celebrity would cancel the excursion. Since they didn't cancel it, I thought it would be safe to go. I was sadly mistaken. The stilt island we visited was very slick. Walking up and down the very steep gang planks was also dangerous. But that was nothing compared to being on the water in the pouring rain! The driver's of the boats could NOT see where they were going. One of the boats got stuck on a sand bar. The boats themselves were uncomfortable and dangerous because the wooden bench seats were not secured. That said, the buffet lunch was better than I expected. However, I would not recommend this tour. That was the bad part of the cruise, but everything else was good or great. Our cabin was wonderful. The meals were mostly very good with serving sizes plentiful. The entertainment was great, in fact, better than most cruise ships. Embarkation and debarkation went smoothly and quickly. My husband and friends loved the guest lecturer from Hollins College. Service was friendly and fast. Read Less

We had a fabulous time....the Weather was brilliant as we expected We arrived at the terminal after a flight from the UK around 11 am. We were on board within 15 mins We booked for the 19th December for one week over Christmas stateroom 8024 and then stateroom 8032 from 26th December for the New Years Cruise . These staterooms are under the pool deck and you can hear trolleys, children running etc but it did not bother us to much We had a wonderful time ,so much so we have booked to sail again on this cruise on February 6th 2017 we have booked an aft jnr suite. We were very impressed with the service that we experienced everywhere on the ship The Captain Michael Lindberg was very visible and made a point of speaking to many guests on a one to one basis . The Officers we would like to thank for making our cruise very special are the Loyalty Ambassador Fernando, The Bar Manager Alex from Romania, the Maitre de and of course Junior and his team for the wonderful fresh food on board. The Concierge Team of Mangesh and V were also amazing When we docked at Muscat you can buy a hop on hop off bus ticket there is a special deal if you buy the Muscat, Abu Dhabi, and the Dubai bus tours which were a great way of seeing and learning about these great places. These buses are frequent and not to crowded. If you have a gold card then you can have breakfast served to you in Giovanni's. Check the cruise compass for timings. You can also have breakfast served in the main dining room. The Windjammer was very busy on times but as long as you avoid these busy moments then you will always find a seat and the staff are quick to assist and help, offering to take away empty plates and/or bring drinks. We ate at Chops, Giovanni's and Isumi several times during both cruises and enjoyed the exclusivity and quality of the food.and don't forget to try the Park Cafe in the Solarium for lighter options or late snacks. Room service was delivered quite quickly and if you fancy breakfast in bed then put out the breakfast menu before you go to sleep. your on Holidays after all ; o ) The Gym is well equipped and the spa was very good with special offers on port days The entertainment team we enjoyed and the cruise Director and his team were entertaining and happy at all times.we enjoyed the shows and the trivia quiz. There are plenty of lounges to sunbathe on because a lot of people are doing the shore excursions and don't forget to try the Park Cafe in the Solarium. You can also get fruit cups and some desserts at the Seattle's coffee bar deck six We went out in the evening in Dubai during the overnight stop for a curry on the and found that taxi's are cheap and we used Uber to take us back to the ship, worked out less than $10. You feel very safe in Dubai. My Husband had a shoulder back and neck massage along with a manicure inside the terminal it was extremely good and very reasonable, worth checking this out. Disembarkation was quick but we had already booked a car to our Hotel which was a day rate at the Hilton Creek.which is a wonderful Hotel The taxi rank however was not that busy around 8.30 but around 9 am it went very busy around 70 people waiting but the line moved quickly with plenty of taxi's Read Less

It is probably easier to state my one complaint, than to cover the very many aspects that I thought were great about the ship. My only complaint was that some of the entertainment on the second leg of our cruise was a repeat of our first leg. However there were new acts, all of which were of a very high standard, and given we were sailing through the Middle East it would have been very hard to take new performers on board. The food was great ( particularly Luminae restaurant where we went on our second leg after our cabin upgrade). All the staff around the ship were fantastic, friendly and helpful. The cleanliness standard was high. I loved the thalassotherapy pool ! The lectures on ports of call were interesting; and boarding and disembarkation was easy. Unfortunately Celebrity joins other cruise companies by "nickle and diming" for so many things but this is my 4th cruise now so am accustomed to being expected to pay through the nose for extras such as bingo, movies. I do not understand why the companies do not make these things more accessible by lowering the cost. Given this was a maiden voyage itinery of the Middle East and India , there were some minor hitches with ports of call, but this can happen any time due to weather conditions.I would definitely sail again with Celebrity so that probably speaks for itself. With regard to shore excursions we only did one, and as usual that was well orgainised Read Less

Momma Mia was Broadway quality. The shows were great. The cabin was a good size with a nice seating area. There was plenty of storage for 2 people. Also we enjoyed our excursions specially in country of oman with the best tourism Company there ( Lifetime-tours),Oman was my third stop on a four country vacation and I immediately fell in love with this country. At first I could not put my finger on why, but I think it was the heart of the people that made this place special. Ahmed, our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and professional. He spoke with a certain pride about his country and I could see why. He took great care to make sure we had a great time and he altered the tour a bit due to my disability to make sure I could still experience a Wadi, but just not a challenging. Also the excellent service and organisation we had with this agency. Finally it was everything beautiful and relaxing. We chose this cruise on itinerary and dates. However will never sail with MSC again because there is so much missing compared to other cruise lines. We had bought the drinks package thankfully because you couldn't even have a glass of water with dinner without paying. Nor was coffee served in the dining room after dinner. Nor was there a water fountain in the gym! The ship itself is lovely, clean and quite comfortable. Our balcony cabin was spacious clean and bathroom fine. However staff left a lot to be desired. What happened to staff giving way to customers on corridors etc. Officers never spoke to you in passing. There was no port information provided. There was no news sheet each day. The entertainment was awful. Apart from the two sets of gymnasts who were very good (but bit repetitive) the other shows were boring. Daytime entertainment seemed to consist of the entertainment team entertaining themselves and maybe 1% of the customers. Food was never hot and meat dishes tended to be very chewy. I ended up eating the veggie option most nights. We did two excursions with MSC to Petra and on the final day an excursion/transfer at Venice but the 30minute gondola trip was only 20 mins and the collection or luggage/transfer was chaotic and disorganised. We have sailed with Costa and NCL and would look at them in future if we want a reasonably priced cruise. Our first choice is Azamara which seems more expensive but when you compare what you get for the extra cost, it's well worth the extra because there are no expensive drinks packages to pay for as these and tips are included with Azamara and their customer service is so superior to MSC.
