We have cruised on the Oasis a few years ago, wanted to see how it was after rehab. Condition of the ship was very nice. A lot of children for the month of January( no school?) Any way the positive of our cruise was staff were excellent. We seen several children in Schooner Bar, also in the karaoke bar unsupervised. The Solarium is posted Adults only 16 and older, everyday we seen children in there and none of the staff were saying anything too them. I can remember when they had staff posted at the bistro stopping all children from coming into adult area, maybe royal needs to bring this back. I have nothing against children but they are not part of my vacation time. Also the casino rehab is nice but they removed the TV from behind the bar. This cruise they ran out of a lot of liquor in several bars which is very unusual for royal. Giovani's was excellent as always, big shout out to Ahmed great time and service. Boarding and Disembark were smooth. Just my thoughts but it seems like royal is catering to family's and more children, and is getting away from more higher end cruisers. Read Less

I thought this would be a better alternative to a Disney cruise. The Youth clubs were aged disproportionately at 6-12 and 13 -17. Instead of 7-10, 11-14, 15-18 like most cruise ships. Therefore my 12 year felt too mature for one and too intimidated for the other where it was mostly older teenagers. The ship advertise ice skating, laser tag. However those activities are only once and twice during the 7 days on a ship of 6100 passengers. So if you don't sign up early you'll miss out. It'll only accommodate the first 100. I'm a foodie and was disappointed somewhat. The chefs must not be American. The Jamaican and Indian food was delicious. However the breakfast food was extremely tasteless. The waffles, pancakes, French toast, omelettes were horrible. So we ate mostly fruit, juice and bread for breakfast. The desserts was the same deal. Presentation was great but tasteless. Exception were the cookies. Lobster night was good. Due to compressor of AC, stateroom occasionally smelled like urine. Room attendant Mike was helpful in trying correct the issue but it kept coming back. Embarking was quick and easy. Times for port arrival and departure were accurate. Surprisedly I felt a lot of shaking and moving on a ship that size. A better theater selection is needed. CATS was horrible. The best show on the ship was Aqua80 which fortunately shows every night. All the other shows were below mediocrity. My room attendant was great despite the room odor. Our room stayed clean and we kept fresh towels, wash cloth throughout the day. Read Less

I chose this cruise as a gift to my wife and kids. We had never been on any of the larger cruise ships before and I wanted to see what it was like for future experiences. The Pros: The Aqua 80's show was very good and entertaining. The BBQ restaurant (extra charge) was very good. We ended up eating there most nights. The private surf lessons were well worth it for my wife and kids. They had a blast. The ventriloquist was also very good entertainment. For the most part, the pools were ample and you had room in them. The Central Park area on the 8th floor was pretty nice. Great restaurants, nice little bar area. Relaxing area to hang out at night. Labadee was fun with a lot of activity The Fury Catamaran was excellent. The staff was very professional and the equipment and boat were spotless. The Cons: No staff in sight when we boarded the ship. It is pretty overwhelming and no direction. We found someone and they were able to answer some basic questions. For the ship just recently coming out of dry dock, it still looked worn out. I had black mold in my shower that never got cleaned (I asked housekeeping several times if they could clean it, they never did). The room was tiny. We had a family of four in the room (balcony room 8698). Once the kids bed was pulled out for the night you were pretty much trapped and could not get out on the balcony. Very little storage and what storage was there was very small, odd shaped spaces. The food in the dining room was horrible. We ate at the main dining room one time and my wife and kids did not want to go back. Service overall was fair to average. Not sure if the staff was at the end of their contract, but they didn't seem to care much. Most of the shows were not very good. The history of music had great musicians, but a not so good singer. It was disappointing. The ice show was average, pretty much like the rest of the shows. The ports were disorganized with where to go. We got on a bus (we were directed to get on it) and we were mixed with another group. Pretty sure one of the groups went to the wrong beach, but, nothing either of the groups could do about it. Bar service was slow and they were often out of different beers. Johnny Rockets was not worth the extra expense. My wife had a nail appointment (paid $140) and they were out of technicians. So they had a girl do them. The polish came off in the first few hours. She went back to get it fixed and they wanted to charge her. She turned around and left. Overall, the cruise was okay. Maybe I had higher expectations as this was a surprise to my family, but overall not sure I would ever sail on RCCL again. Read Less

I booked this vacation for my children and I as their Christmas present . I selected this ship because of what was available to us onboard...a ton of activities to choose from, amazing food (we've been on several RC cruises) and great entertainment. I knew what to expect when I got onboard. When I booked the room the only thing in my price that was available was a stateroom with a balcony over looking the middle of the ship. The first question I asked was will I hear noise from the decks below. I was told the room was over Central Park and that noise would not be an issue. Unfortunately what I booked was not what I was given...our room overlooked The Boardwalk, which is an extremely noisy part of the ship. Our first night on board we were in for a rude awakening. There was a show going on, the music was so loud that we could hear every single word of every single song. The worst part was the show did not end until after midnight. My kids were exhausted from traveling and were in tears because they could not sleep. I went down to the front desk in the morning to ask for our room to be changed, and there was nothing available because the ship was booked to capacity. They offered me a few hundred dollars for an on board credit for the inconvience. We spent 6 nights listening to several different shows blasting in our room until approximately midnight. Some nights the show would end after midnight. The last night we listened to college football fans cheer for their favorite teams until, once again, well after midnight. Talk about a disappointing situation. I paid for a room to sleep in and every night my kids would cry because they couldn't sleep. I am now fighting with RC for additional compensation. Their recent offer was $203. I'm not satisfied and I'm bringing this to the next level. Other than this horrible room situation we did have a good time on the ship. The food was delicious, the staff was amazing, our cabin was clean and we had fun at the ports we stopped at. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had our 2 adult offspring & a spouse along (25 y/o son, 28 y/o daughter and 29 y/o son-in-law) thinking they would enjoy all the amplifications. Let me start by saying that (a) we had a fantastic time with our family - that part was everything we hope it would be and (b) this is our take - I think families with young children would LOVE this cruise. This was our son-in-law's first cruise. Cabin review below. Overall the food was just ok, certainly nothing special - ii actually ate the dry salmon most nights as there wasn't much else that appealed. HOWEVER, the tenderloin/filet on the 1st "chic" night was OUTSTANDING. Each cabin had one mediocre specialty meal at Giovanni's table. Glad it was a free perk...it was also loud and the tables were on top of each other. Waiter and assistant waiter in MDR were excellent. We split our breafasts between the MDR, the Solarium Cafe and the Windjammer. Food consistently cold. We are not big drinkers but noticed that the bar service was very good. Outdoor Activities - child based Water slides, mini-golf, surf simulator, basketball court, Boardwalk The Shows: Aqua 80's EXCELLENT Headliner GOOD One Sky, Frozen in Time and Cats - NOT GOOD Other Entertainment: Classical guitarist EXCELLENT Jazz Band EXCELLENT Aerosmith Tribute Band EXCELLENT Orchestra EXCELLENT Indoor Activities Escape Room EXCELLENT Sushi Making GOOD Wine tasting NOT GREAT Trivia - VERY GOOD Casino - AVERAGE Labadee - Daughter & SIL went to the beach at the port, said it was their favorite Falmouth - We all went to a beach club, won't go back to Jamaica anytime soon. Cozumel - Weather postponed our excursion so 3 of us did a trolley tour instead. Good time. We had front row seats for the Carnival collition while we were waiting on the dock for the trolley. Daugher and SIL went to beach club said it was good but Labadee was better. VOOM Surf & STREAM package - worked fine, no issues. My opinion is that this trip is best for families with children. The amplification was definatly geared towards kids. It was a little too circus-like for us. Previous cruise to this was on Celebrity which seems to be a better fit for us at this point. Read Less

We signed up to experience a Mega Ship. What we found was a beautiful ship with a wonderful variety of activities and a mixed bag of experiences. Getting on/off was remarkedly smooth and easy. Our balcony cabin on 8 worked well for the 2 of us. Ship had some motion despite fairly calm seas. Elevator waits reasonable. Casino was nasty smoky. Ship staff friendly. Felt nickel and dimed most of the time for little items. Two shows were great - Aqua50 and Cats. Others were pretty bad, One Sky in particular was dismal. So far so good, right? The issue was food. The main dining room was tightly packed. Had to climb over chairs to get into mine. Service slow and inattentive, food way overcooked and often inedible. Windjammer buffet had food as expected, broad choices, good wait staff help, but it was crowded. The Taco Bar was super dirty and busy - avoid at lunch. We found Park Café to be best for a simple breakfast, Windjammer best for lunch at off times, and the Solarium Bistro best for dinner (it was terribly noisy at breakfast). The worst of all was their "premiere upscale" restaurant Chops. We paid extra for a crowded restaurant, poor service, decent lamb and terrible steak. The worst was that despite it's formal dress policy, cruisers showed up (and RCL allowed them in) wearing shorts, flip flops, tank tops and baseball caps. SHAMEFUL! Read Less

As we have experienced western Caribbean cruises in the past, We selected this cruise to compared the experience of the largest RCCI ship to those of the smaller ships. Our cabin was on the sixth deck with the extended balcony very spacious, quiet and clean, with our room steward Mayra who was wonderful. The people in the MDR were very considerate, polite friendly and professional and worked to please everyone. Many of the meals were sub par. Many times the dishes arrived at our table cool to the touch, both our chicken cordon blu was burnt, so we second it back and the second serving was perfect. The short ribs were cold and greasy with burnt edges, several people around us complained about the same issue with the short ribs, so we didn’t bothered to request a new dish of them. We miss the days when the ships had the ice sculpture. There are very little water views unless we sat in our balcony or upstairs by the serenity deck or pool area or Buffet area. Majority of the bars and the specialty restaurants that we went to had no water views. When we sat at either the Central Park or the Boardwalk or on the deck 5 we felt we could have been sitting in a mall rather than in a giant ship. When the ship was at the RCCI private island very few services were available onboard the ship as it appeared that the crew was working the island. One bar on deck 5 was one, the rest if the bars were closed. The MDR was not available for breakfast nor lunch. The Rising Tide bar was nice in that for 30 minutes the bar rose from deck 5 to deck 8 and back again to deck 5. Chairs were high so they were difficult for anyone handicapped or short We were rushed back to Miami at 24 knots due to a medical emergency at 2 am and again at 4 am arriving at 7 pm. Thus, we sat at the pier in Miami for 12 hours, during that time Passengers could not shop or gamble. Many people wondered why we didn’t go back to Cozumel or stop in Key West to evacuate the medical emergency, we heard several passengers got sea sick the last day due to the speed. It was quite windy and most passengers stayed away from the Serenityt Deck (our favorite deck) due to the windy conditions We were surprized that for the size of this ship, guest services was not staffed with any more personnel than a much smaller ship. Nor were paper copies available during the day unless you got in the long lines and requested a peint out, several people were still missing their luggage on the second afternoon of the voyage. Sadly, the Majority of passengers did not receive their purchase invoices at 6 am as promised with no reason or explanation as to why they were not provided, even the room stewards coukd not provide an explanation, some people on some decks did receive invoices. Accounting Errors were discovered on emailed invoices when we got home, We had to research for a contact phone number as none was provided on the invoice. We felt sorry for the peple who did a back to back cruises and didnt have email until they return home! Entertainment, Movies...Upsetting for many people, especially young families as There were No movies until Thursday. Then Oasis entertainment personnel decided to schedule four movies back to back. The movies didnt even appear to be Current movies plus they were offered during the dinner hour. There were no movies offered at night until the very last night. Regarding the CATS production, Many people left in the middle of it or fell asleep during it. Read Less

Underwhelming! It has cured me from wanting to go on RCI again This is a really big ship yet I must say it is not as crowded as you might fear. Most all times it seemed no more congested than a smaller ship. This is a short review from 4 "mature" Adults, so use that in your evaluation. The last 6 cruises we have taken Have been on RCI. In terms of service personnel and food they have steadily gone downhill. This ship is a "destination" with a carousel, Rock climbing wall, mini zip line, etc. This is fine as there are only so many ports in the Caribbean, and it could become boring were there not alternate things to do.. Ship is neat, clean and in good repair. Their cabins were likewise, yet their design is poor in terms of closet layout. Typical to RCI's deterioration is their "nickel and dime-ing", such as the removal of pen and paper from the staterooms. Not a big deal until you have a problem and need to write down the information being conveyed over the phone. possibly the smallest TV I have ever seen on a ship. .Staff: Reservations desk were excellent. Getting on and off was fine, Overall someone has waived their magic wand over the crew and removed every last vestige of enthusiasm and natural friendliness On a 1 to 10 scale, our 4 person rating ( about 50 cruises to our experience) yields between a 3.5 and a 4. Not a very good rating. It bordered on annoying. Possibly we could count 4 or 5 of the staff that exhibited any form of friendliness or desire to be performance oriented. They just do not know how to deal in a service capacity. Maybe RCI has switched to a hiring policy that does not include finding friendly or service oriented people. Who knows.. Whatever the case It is markedly not for the better. Frankly the guys slicing bologna at the local market here are friendlier and show more enthusiasm. Four weeks after this sailing we did an MSC out of Miami and it was back to the old style of treatment. Food: Ahhhh more nickel and dime-ing. Overall food quality has deteriorated. Skipping to the bottom line here.... a 3.5 out of 10 would be generous. It seems they are pushing you to their specialty restaurants...pushing heavily. I believe (at least on our cruise) they have resorted to using powdered eggs for their breakfast scrambled eggs. and... they have eliminate the egg cooking station, so i wonder how many portions of eggs go into the garbage barely eaten. Really Chef ?.. Powdered eggs,,, yech!!!!! (Oh, and they were the worst powdered eggs I have ever had) Lots of Pasta was available..... frequently semi cooked. we are not talking al dente here.... we are talking crunchy. More than one station, more than one day. Staff indifferent.... I also think they believe they have mastered a way to make reconstituted chicken. Anyway... that is what it looked, felt and tasted like. Note to chef.... you have not mastered it. BUT you have mastered the excessive use of salt. ) wow... I'm thankful the water was not another one of the pay extra options). A few more: Central Park is great!!! Beautiful!!!! Took a tour of it. Narrator mumbled, talked low and away from the group... so we left... BUT they did at least offer a tour. The place for sandwiches there is GREAT!! and Giovanni's Service, personnel and food was terrific!!!! Great great fillet... these two have the highest recommendations of anything on the ship They don't have: stargazing, enrichment programs, information as to where we were, what we were passing, etc. Part of their service isolation experience I suppose. Entertainment was decent to good. They did "Cats" ( the musical, not the food), and it was very good, as was their water show. Yes there were bright spots. So....overall it was not a "bad" experience. It just was not good. it was as best mediocre. what you might settle for as a cut rate sailing. For a first timer...you might be impressed.... but if you have sailed RCI in the past, perhaps 3 or 4 years ago...or have sailed a number of other lines , you will definitely notice their deterioration in service, attitude and food. There is a lot of competition in the Miami Ft Lauderdale cruise business. MCI has already surpassed RCI, and others will also....unless RCI gets it together. Read Less

We are a family of 3 and this was a our second cruise ever so we only have one other cruise to compare to. The Oasis of the Sea was great in terms of size cleanliness and entertainment options. However, the things that stood out for us (in a negative way) was the service and food. Service - The crew members that we came across seemed like they were in "drone mode". Once you engage them in a conversation they would smile but once the conversation was over it seemed like they defaulted back to a straight face. This goes from our room attendant to the waiters and waitresses. The only exceptions were the crew at the Customer Service desk or stores. (This is in comparison to the crew on the Norwegian Epic we took 2 years back. Where everyone seemed to be on a good day. Norwegian's crew was friendly, engaging, interested, and part time comedian for the most part). Some examples of RCL crew... ex/ We asked for extra shampoo as my wife and daughter both have long hair needed more but the room attendant never did give us extra. There were some days where he even forgot to refill. ex/ Our waiter in the main dining room was always pushing us for a better review of him at the end of our trip. This was off putting as every dinner he would say "...remember 10 as anything but 10 even 9 does nothing." I understand that there may be bonuses that are based on their reviews by customer but if they actually put the same effort into the service we would naturally give him a 10. Food - The best food was in the main dining room. Great variety through out the trip. Also the Park Café had great choice for healthier food like sandwiches, salads and fruit cups. We didn't go to any of the specialty dining as we thought the quality of the main dining room was good enough for us. However, apart from the 2 mentioned above and specialty restaurants, the rest of the restaurants weren't that good. Ex/ The buffet area lacked food choices, in comparison to the Epic. From the Epic they would show case a different culture's food each night and have a few dishes of that type of food. Where as the Oasis had mostly the same food in the buffet area all the time. Also if you have little ones be prepared to spend a few extra bucks on snacks of well placed/decorated store. Such as the ice cream store next to the carousel. Surprisingly there wasn't much effort or emphasis on using hand sanitizer. You would see public areas being cleaned often but it will only stay clean until the next person touches the surface . One thing you do want to do is plan ahead of time such as review the schedule of the skating rinks, carousel, and other events as some activity share the same stage space and are open on specific time slots. However, overall quality of the shows and entertainment were great. Read Less
