This has been our 1st cruise and we just fall in love with it. First of all, the onboard services was great, our cabin steward was always available and always look up to make sure we were confortable and were not missing anything. We are ballroom dancer and we danced in the Atrium to do the sound of the music maker duo and they were very good. NCL should stop waxing the dance floor as it make it very sticky but beside that we had a great time and met nice people. The cruise animation crew were funny engaging and the game was fun to watch and not overly embarrassing for the participant. The ship start to show sign of it's age (5 years) but the cabin was ok, bed was comfortable and the balcony size was perfect. We will cruise again with the freestyle that NCL offer as we just love that we did not have a fix time and table for diner. Read Less

there was nothing that stuck out as a bad experience but it was not over all a good experience Embarkation and Disembarkation were as crowd as you would expect with 4100 people, but it was just moving from one pen to another. no real information was passed on, move from station to station and then sit in a pen till we call your number. with the Epic there is no "promenade" deck, so you are dumped into the casino through a hole in the wall. there really was no fanfare for the beginning of your trip. overall there is not enough elevator space, there are plenty of elevators but they are all really small. lay out of the ship is different then ships of the past. everything happens in the middle of the ship and everything is open to each other. there are good and bads, good thing is that there is really no travel time between anything you want to do. bad is the there is no separation between anything I am not sure if in the past, smoking was allowed anywhere but the casino. but on this ship it is allowed any where in public areas and it travels through out the entire ship. so while having dinner on 6 you get to hear the casino and smell the smoke. I work in a casino, I did not feel like I was on vacation because the sounds and smells of the casino followed me. ( and yes I am a none smoker ) this might not be problem for people who like casinos, but other then up on 15 at the pool and buffet area you have to deal with the Casino and its by-products. the cabin was nice and the size i expected, (smallish) but that is cruising in general. the room steward seemed to always be in the hall though. it did not seem he was overwork or had a lot to do. Dining was nice but nothing really stood out as a wow factor we only went to the comedy club once and it really worked out well. gift shop/shopping are was layout weird and did not have a lot of selection for souvenirs. lot of clothes and "Duty Free" stuff. no magnets/ key chains Shore excursions were as to be expected and time at port was good. Our cruise was on the Norwegian Epic, which departed from Miami on April 12th-April 19th. This was my first cruise and it was a family trip with 6 in our party. Personally, I feel we spent way too much time at the guest services counter, which caused great frustration and wasted many hours on 3 or 4 different days! They entered the 2 occupants of our room incorrectly 2 different times and misapplied my cash funds to my boyfriend's account and misapplied his credit card funds to my account. The most disturbing part of this was our travel agent had advised the person who booked our cruise that each member of our party would receive a $200 onboard credit, which we planned to use for the daily cleaning & service of our stateroom. We were at the guest services desk 3 of the 4 times for this one issue and the end result was we DID NOT get our credits! Several emails were sent to Norwegian's home office, but they refused to apply the credits that we were promised, therefore causing each of us to struggle to come up with an additional $200 we had not anticipated, reducing the amount of money we could spend on souvenirs and entertainment! The cruise itself was amazing as far as activities, food, excursions, etc. (except there was no where near enough time to see hardly anything on the Mayan Ruin excursion in Tulum, Mexico) went, but the issues with the promised onboard credits & repeatedly having to go back to guest services to have them correct issues, time & time again, was very time-consuming & frustrating! At this point I don't think we would even consider taking another cruise with Norwegian and have been looking at booking a cruise next year with another cruise line, based on recommendations from other travelers, who may be more competent and better organized! This was our 5th cruise on NCL. 4th on Epic. We are 65+. Know what we want to do on each cruise and find the one for us. We are scheduled for November sailing out of Houston. Sea days for us are all about relaxation. We sleep in. Sit on the balcony. Eat. Drink. Repeat. Like the casino. Won BIG on this one. Like the entertainment. Oh what a day was great. Make it a point to walk from end to end several times a day. Climb stairs, etc. Never buy meals. Always eat at restaurants available. Taste is great. Try their mushroom soup. Take cruise whatever to its limits. No dresses. No long pants. No closed toed shoes. We just eat casually. Read Less

Booked the EPIC to experience her again before she heads to Europe (was previously on her Oct 2010 when she was new). I read all the negative reviews and decided that vacation is what you make it and we were going to enjoy ourselves. I am Platinum with 16 cruises on NCL. (Many other cruise lines too) and was expecting a wonderful experience. Unfortunately, most of the negative reviews were accurate. Without being able to book shows or dinner reservations prior to boarding, the lines were awful! iConcierge was not working, the TV booking was not working and many of the kiosks throughout the ship were not working. All this meant we had to stand in line with the box office. Standing in line with with hundreds of upset people was not pleasant. Being Platinum, a person should receive a packet with discount offerings and items delivered to you room. None of this happened and I had to go to the service desk twice. I always like doing the behind the scenes tour and we missed it since we had no details. The ship was filthy, NEVER saw anyone cleaning anywhere. Carpet ripped in many spots (saw someone trip), ceilings with water stains in different spots, etc... I could go on and on regarding all that was a disappointment but I think you get the idea. The pluses regarding the ship were the shows and dining. Ate in the buffet, Manhattan, Taste, LeBistro and Cagneys. All were excellent for every experience. Our cabin was a large balcony on deck 11 and it was perfect. The cabin steward was the worst ever - forgot to clean our room 1 day, asked for more towels and he gave us 1 extra washcloth, would come by at the same time each night to turn down when we specifically told him when we dine and he said he would come earlier or later, etc... The shows were all great. Was disappointed that Blue Man wasn't on board, however, adding Oh What a Night was a great choice. Cirque was wonderful! Bought the Standard seats and they were better to us than the Premium ones. The ports were all good. Been to each many times and always have a great time. Met many nice people throughout the week and everyone I spoke to was disappointed. I still believe in NCL and will be going on the Escape next March. I just think the EPIC needs an EPIC overhaul. I will never cruise again. This review is terrible and that is really not like me. My gripes are more about cruising in general and the costs! The EPIC was okay. I do not have another ship to compare it to, I expected something really cool & modern, it was so not. It was just like an old casino. So contrived What a racket. Cruising to me is like a cross between A Vegas casino, a little water park & an RV. I do not understand the draw. Manhattan room was like an old fashion super club. Taste is called contemporary, I thought it was the oddest decor some strange antler like railings with dated 70s stained glass windows, not remotely contemporary. Cirque Theater & dinner show entertainment was amazing the performers-the best hour of my 7 days at sea. Food-mediocre. Legends was excellent-possibly the second most fun I had at sea. There was no BLUE MAN GROUP which really ticks me off, it's STILL being advertised and it's not even offered! That was one of the big reasons we picked this trip! However being stuck on a ship for days where the only place you can get outside is the upper deck was like being incarcerated ... I felt so sick & uneasy ... Wasted money on Bingo & slot machines out of sheer boredom I did like Cayman Islands But now I will just go there for vacation. This trip was So expensive, we had to pay for hotel & transportation before and after the cruise, air fair, the cruise, the excursions, cirque, bingo, gratuities, etc., we got 'the ultimate beverage package' and the kids could only get soda?! No slushies or frosties, etc., no bottled water. The elevators were crammed, the top of the ship was full, no seats. I was shocked how small the pools were, yet there were over 4000 people on board. I was disappointed there weren't any open air areas outside of the upper deck. The layout of the ship made it very hard to get around. Then to find out even though we paid $350+ in gratuities, this was not for our drink servers, WHAT???? They were the only people that served us. I cannot believe the thousands & thousands of people that take these cruises time and time again, I just don't get it. This trip was more expensive than anything my family has ever done (and we've taken some amazing trips, Hawaii, Maui, Oahu, Colorado, Disney, San Antonio, Palm Island, Clear Water etc.,) and this was the worst & most expensive. So many people said we wouldn't feel movement on this MEGA ship, but we did. A lot. The servers were nice. The food was satisfactory, but the cost and the experience was a complete let down. My family and I had a wonderful vacation on the Norwegian Epic. There were 8 of us in my party, and everyone had a great time. I have cruised with NCL several times and I actually found the food on the Epic to be exceptional. I do not, as a rule, buy up to the specialty restaurants (my feeling is that all of the food comes from the same kitchen) or do the buffet for dinner. I was amazed at the variety and "restaurant feel" of the "free" dining areas and found both the Manhattan Lounge and Taste to be fantastic. The service received at both was very good. In terms of entertainment, I found the second city comedy to be lacking (maybe I just didn't get it,) but the Bob Marley tribute was fantastic. The lead singer had a great voice. I had read reviews that the casino was too smoky, I enjoyed the casino every night and did not experience a particularly smoky environment, although I noted that their were hardly any smokers around me. My only criticism of the casino is that the slots were somewhat stingy. I am always somewhat apprehensive about playing slots anyway on a cruise ship as I am not sure how regulated they are. The table play was great and dealers were engaging. The excursions were just ok. Tiki Beach in Jamaica was nice. However the ride over through a very impoverished area was a bit sobering. NCL needs to challenge its excursion partners in the Cayman Islands. After leaving the tenders we were placed in a holding area. The waiting on shore was intolerable. We waited almost 45 minutes for our ride to the beach. When we arrived in Cozumel we decided tojust walk around Cozumel and that, as always, was fun. While I personally had a great time, I do have a couple of negatives. NCL needs to address the "Chaise Lounge" problem. The Epic is a huge ship. No matter how big they make the ships, there is only so much room on the top deck for sun bathing. I was out at 8:00 AM on the second sea day and there was not a chair to be had. All reserved and 65% unintended. While a rumor floated that there is a one hour rule for unoccupied chairs, staff did not enforce. I have zero complaints about the cabin. I raised my eyebrow when I saw the bathroom setup entering the room, but it actually worked out well. The room was clean, plenty of storage. We had the mini suite. Our room steward was wonderful. Embarkation was smooth and I was pleasantly surprised at how fast I received my luggage, as this has been a problem for me on other NCL cruises. Disembarkation was its normal craziness. I don't know of a way to make that experience better. One final note, I will never again cruise Easter week. I realize kids need a vacation too, but too many for me. Way too many kids. If you don't like a lot people, the Epic is not for you. Read Less

This was my family's first Cruise experience. We chose a 7 day cruise to Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Mexico leaving out of Miami April 5 2015. We typically do a theme park for vacation and stay a week. I have to say we are very pleased with Norwegian. They prepared us ahead of time with email an reminders with the NCL.COM login. It was easy to sign up for excursions ahead of time they're all affordable. The ship was pristine, upon our arrival check-in/boarding was orderly and fast. To our delight we got to board early. Norwegian had food and drinks available the moment we got on the ship. The Crew had hand sanitizer available everywhere. The gentleman who cleaned our stateroom every morning and turned down every night was so kind and friendly. He always left a towel character for my son. The Norwegian staff was so accommodating. We were very pleased with all the complimentary restaurants all the food was good. My son had so much fun at the Splash Academy he made some good friends. The staff never made it feel like "childcare" he looked forward to going to splash Academy daily and rushed us along so he could get there on time. Being an only child he some time's gets bored and misses being around other children. That's NOT THE case with Norwegian Cruise. My son had friends to "hang" with. He can't wait for our next Norwegian Cruise. The casino was very nice and the staff was a lot of fun. The bingo an Deal or no deal was fun too. Legends in concert was great the Aretha Franklin was great. We also liked "Oh What a Night Tribute". The pool and slides were lovely but that's my only sad face about the whole cruise is the sundeck. Guests would put their personal items shoes, purse, book and towel on a chair and then go to a show or have lunch while chairs sat with stuff in them but no people for hours. I hear other cruise lines have an enforceable rule about that. I never got to really enjoy the sundeck in 7 days. I like to sleep in on vacation. Met a lot of nice people on the ship. My husband and I liked that we were not forced to eat at tables with the same people every day and night. It was always a family meal. I would recommend Norwegian Cruise Lines to my friends and family. I already have. Read Less

This was our first cruise ever, so I was a little concerned about seasickness, got the patch and I was fine. We read alot of reviews but I've come to realization that you can't make everyone happy. No vacation is perfect and very few meet all your expectations, but realistically, this was fan-damn-tastic!!! The overall service was great, the boat was clean and well maintained and the food was wonderful. Way too many things to do on the ship, so we couldn't do them all. The name of the ship says it all, truly EPIC. Something for everyone and even at 53, I enjoyed the water slides immensely. We enjoyed each port of call with the exception of Ocho Rios. The excursion was great, but the people are so pushy and over the top. I literally had to push someone away from my wife. If I want your goods, I'll come see you. But they never stopped. Cozumel was just the opposite, very polite and helpful. Thank you Norwegian for making our first cruise a success!! Read Less

I have just returned from a week on the Epic following a week on the Getaway. The Getaway wonderful, the Epic needs to be sorted out. I have traveled 4 times with Norwegian and whilst this was not my worst experience it was most certainly not my best. From arrival at the port to the facilities on board things were lacking. There was no welcome aboard, just left to find your own way around. Was given a map at check in with what is happening on embarkation day. Always had this before. The ship is poorly designed but the concept of singles cabins is great. Hardly saw the cruise director or his team. Was very little to do on board and certainly lacking sunbeds or places in the sun to put them. Couldn't believe how much was at extra cost. There has always been speciality restaurants but not as many as on here and have never had to pay for evening shows before. Previous cruises always had at least one free show a night and something different every evening. The food was ok but no wow factor. The ship was not as clean as other Norwegian ships- and I have traveled on older ones. Ship can't cope with the amount of people it has on board might be different if it was not full. Read Less

I did a lot of research before the week we cruised (3/29-4/5) and went into it eyes wide open. I knew about the flaws of the ship, and tried to keep a positive outlook. I would give the overall experience a rating between poor and average. But because of the below average service, that is why I went with the poor rating. I was traveling with my wife, 12 year old daughter and my wife's mom. We're from a Chicago suburb, and was looking forward to some warm weather after the long winter. We weighed out the cost of different cruises, and this particular one seemed to fit our budget since I was also treating my mother-in law to a single studio room. Our recent past experience with cruising in the last 10 years has all been with Disney. We sailed the Magic, the Wonder and the Dream. While the cost of DCL is quite high for what you get, the service is probably the best I've seen on a cruise (I also have experience with Carnival, Princess and Royal Caribbean). Perhaps that I was comparing NCL to Disney was partly to blame why I rated NCL poor. The service on the Epic was to me, just nothing memorable. No one went out of their way to interact with us at dinner or at any other time - compare to Disney, and it was a huge difference. We had the UBP included with our room. The thing is, when we'd go to a bar, the bartenders would take so long to notice you're standing waiting. Sometimes as long as 10 minutes. The process of the UBP is somewhat annoying, but I can understand why it's done - each drink has to be rung up separately. If you have 2 people in your room with the UBP, you can only get 2 drinks at time. What I didn't like is all the bar receipts included a tip. There wasn't a choice - even with the bad bar service. We had a mini suite w/balcony, which is definitely not a suite. The rooms are small. Again, comparing to Disney. The bathroom layout is bizarre. Why would it seem like a good idea to put a sink in the middle of the counter in the room - where water is splashed on the floor anytime the sink is on. During the 7 days, the toilets stopped working 3 different times for a few hours. I think we saw our room steward 3 times during the week. Nice guy. Dining - we ate mostly in the MDR and buffet. We did Le Bistro one night. For 20.00/pp it was worth it. The included dining options were good. It was nice how the menus had different options in the MDRs each day. A note about the buffet, which to me bothers me not just on this cruise, but all- It just amazes me how much food people eat. Food they probably shouldn't be eating. It made me sick to watch these obese people pile as much food as they possibly could on a plate, and go back 2 and 3 times. I know, it's cruising... just don't look at it. The other thing is the amount of waste. People would get an overflowing plate of food to only throw out most of it. It was really sad. The shore excursions were nice, aside from the bad weather we had in Jamaica. Pouring rain all day. Still, we did the falls and the bobsled. Was a lot of fun. Our 12 year old spent most of the time in the kids area. She had a great time, but was disappointed that they closed every 4 hours. All in all it was ok. I decided to give NCL another chance and try a different ship. We'll see what happens. Read Less

We have sailed w/ NCL a couple of times now. The Epic was not as enjoyable as the others. The menu's didn't have variety - some never changed at all. The food was good as always but again, seemed limited in selection compared to other ships. The ships staff was awesome, hardworking, courteous. We wondered if the ship was short staffed as messes in the common areas went without attention for days. Not as much cleaning going on during the day in common areas. Entertain, what they had, was very enjoyable but again, lacked in the number of things to pick from. Really missed the Broadway type shows in the theater. Getting on and off the ship was a breeze and customer service did an excellent job in trying to correct any issues. The weather didn't cooperate but thats to be expected on any vacation. When the weather did finally get hot, we walked around and around before finally finding a place to lay in the sun. To crowded. Its always nice to get away, but think were going to either utilize a smaller ship of NCL and or try another cruise line. We really enjoy their dinning plan of eat when you want which has been the main drawing item for us to use NCL. I know first hand they have other ships with better entertainment, food choices, and space to exist so will use NCL again. Read Less

I was excited to go on NCL's biggest ship, but my excitement quickly turned to disappointment. Embarkation went smoothly, and I felt like things were off to a great start. Then, I got to the cabin. Without a doubt, this is the worst cabin I've ever been in. By not separating the restroom/shower in a separate area, but only using a curtain, you effectively trap one person on the inside or outside of the room. The one plus side: cabin location was AWESOME. We couldn't have picked a better area to stay in. The entertainment was okay, but somewhat disappointing; the Blue Man Group was phenomenal, as expected, and the Cirque show was phenomenal, as expected (albeit at additional cost). But Second City comedy, which I'm normally a huge fan of, was just plain bad. And the Legends show was solid, but not spectacular. However, there was a particular pianist at one of the bar/lounge areas that was phenomenal, and that's where we spent the better part of the entertainment at the cruise. Food was another hit-or-miss area; the Manhattan Room was medicore quality food with mediocre service while the other dining room was better quality food, with service that ranged from average to phenomenal. (Props to Hennesey the waiter for the best dining experience on board - beyond excellent!) Unfortunately, NCL's FreeStyle dining just doesn't measure up to the traditional dining you find on other lines. Where NCL caught up to everyone else was in the service at the Spa. The stay there was WONDERFUL, the facilities excellent (if not beyond), the level of service was phenomenal. This was easily the best of the cruise Spas I've enjoyed. Also, the stops (Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Cozumel) offered great things to do, and the NCL tours we took were excellent. In particular, the Zipline/Tubing/Falls combo in Jamaica and the Tulum Mayan Ruins in Cozumel were among the best tours I've taken. The Tulum tour isn't for everyone; it is an educational experience that challenges your thinking; I adored it, and especially for our incredibly educated tour guide. The Tulum trip was complicated by late departures, late arrivals, and a storm, but was still, in my opinion, an excellent tour and an excellent value. We also took the Everglades tour after disembarkation. It wasn't on-par with the other tours. I was warned in advance about the ship itself, and the warnings were well founded. The Epic has a very distinctive feel about it, moreso than other ships. It's a bit unsettling, especially if you're used to layouts of other ships. I personally like exploring the ship, and in that regard, the Epic was fascinating, but once familiar with the ship, you can't escape the feel that it's not quite "right." My advice: the stops are awesome - especially Grand Cayman, and shouldn't be missed. The Epic is something veteran cruisers should experience at least once, and then you can decide for yourself whether it suits you or not (in my case, once is enough). As a whole, a solid trip, at a reasonable fee, but a tad disappointing if you're a veteran to cruising. Read Less

this was our 2nd time on the EPIC, we went last year as well, but this year we were a group of 16 people. I can honestly say that we chose the perfect ship to have such a large group of all ages, as there is something for everyone. the kids LOVE the splash academy so much, they spend all year talking about the counselors and how much they miss them, and saw some of the same counselors this year again! honestly, they are the best people to deal with kids, and have so many creative activities for them to do each day and night! its great to know they are in good hands! I found that the ship is still in perfect condition, everything in working order, all staff very attentive, some of them went out of their way to please us, and even recognized us after a year! we chose the EPIC again because we loved everything so much last year, the waterpark and we wanted to see things we didn't have time for last time. the waterpark, pools, Jacuzzis are still amazing, the music, dancing and activities by the pool are always entertaining. the inside cabins are perfect for us as we are never there cause there is too much to do on the ship, so cabins are perfect for showering and sleeping, plus they were close to academy for dropping off/picking up kids! the food was always changing and excellent everywhere we went from the buffet to manhattan to taste to o'sheehans...we loved revisiting the Noodle Bar (yummy potstickers), Wasabi (best sushi/sashimi ever), having made to order Nutella crepes even and went to Shanghai restaurant for the first time (loved the chicken and shrimp noodles) and discovered you can order all you want off the menu, which is great for just $15 cover charge! this time around we did the Cirque Dreams and Dinner and it was SPECTACULAR!! I mean, there are no words really, you are just astounded at what they do in such a space, truly incredible! I recommend that to everyone, it is worth more than 39 dollars....we also went to Nickelodeon's Slime Time Live and it was so entertaining, funny and has audience participation..i also took my youngest daughter to Nickelodeon's Pajama Jam Breakfast and it was awesome!! Dora, Diego, SpongeBob, Patrick, and the Fairly Oddparents were there, along with the Nick team, of course and it was amazing! breakfast buffet included was the best breakfast and a photo with characters was included! Blue man group was phenomenal as always, legends was great, they are identical to the real life singers, wow!! we went to visit the bridge viewing room on our last day and its very interesting to see and the view is great as well. I honestly don't understand and cant believe ANY of the negative reviews I have seen before. everything was more than perfect and I love the epic and Norwegian cruise line, there is nothing better than freestyle cruising to me, where you can go eat when you want, wherever you want and dress as you want! its on your terms! it works best for my family. also, the 3 ports we visited were great! Jamaica we went to Dunn's river falls and climbed up the river, which was a once in a lifetime experience! I had waited many years to do it, and it was better than expected. Grand Cayman tender was very easy, short boat ride to dock, and did the Trolley Roger tour which is very informative about the island, then went to 7 mile public beach which is gorgeous, clean, clear, great food and local beer. Cozumel was great also, we took a taxi and went to Paradise beach club which is only $3 per person to enter, and you have access to pool, lounge chairs inside pool and around pool, changing rooms, restrooms, beach, pier, chairs and umbrellas. plus, delicious nachos, tacos and drinks! (which are extra) This is truly the way to travel, you have your transportation, hotel, food, drinks, and entertainment included for 1 price. and yes, some things are extra, but its not NECESSARY, its OPTIONAL. to me, its all worth it! We are definitely Norwegians, and are already booked on the Escape in November! cant wait to cruise like a Norwegian again! Read Less

This was my 5th cruise I went on. We stayed in a stateroom with a balcony. It was the biggest room I have stayed in. Balcony was well worth the money. Arriving the first day was a awesome experience. Right when we went to baggage claim someone was there to greet us and patiently waited for us to receive our bags. The whole process of getting on the ship was very fast. We arrived around 12. One main point I did notice was that the main pool deck was very small in comparison to the amount of guest that were on the ship. The first day we went out early to grab seats... knowing that it would be hard to find some. Everyone was on top of each other! The Epic holds about 4,000 guest so it does make sense that the deck would be packed. The pool I never went in because it too was packed. Also like many other reviewers have mentioned it was a full of families and kids. For the rest of the time we found the quiet zone in the front of the boat that many people either were not aware of or did not like the fact that it was not near the entertainment on the main deck near the pool. We enjoyed it because it had very comfy cushioned seats and beds! The service we great. I cant complain because every single staff on board works their butts off and seems to never get a break. All I know is I couldn't do their job so I give them a lot of credit. There was always activities going on just make sure to bring around your itinerary you get each day because the time passes fast and can be easily missed. One huge recommendation is to absolutely reserve all shows before going on the cruise. Many shows were sold out on the first day. Also you will not have to worry about any more planning and you can just enjoy your vacation! The blue man group was great as well as the legends in concert. The second city show that we went to didn't impress me but they change their shows each night and we also went to a kid friendly show. I was bummed that they didn't have comedy show or magic show but to my surprise they did have a hypnotist show you could book once you got onto the ship. I used the NCL concierge app to book it but then shut it off because I was skeptical about the wifi charges and somehow managed to receive a text message from someone back at home....That was just me being worried though. The bowling, ice bar and rock climbing I thought I was going to do but I was so busy that we didn't even get a chance to do any of it! All cost a little extra. As for the food the two main dining rooms that are complimentary were okay. The buffet was larger than most ships and believe it or not we ate there more than any other place. However i'm convinced there are laxatives in it. Osheehans was the best complimentary food and prepared and cooked better than the buffet as expected. Room service took about 30 min but late night would take a little longer. It was okay food. The five dollar pizza though we ordered 3 times it was that good! The specialty restaurants looked amazing we only tried cagneys and it was probably the best steak I have had. Well worth the money, make sure you go HUNGRY. The nightlife was eh. Boston to bermuda can never compare. This may be because us bostonians love to party....who knows? The white hot party was the only fun night. They had it outside on deck. Very cool. I wish there was a DJ on the deck like that every night. The only other night club they had was bliss and it was okay. The set up could have been a little more spacious and allowed more people to view the dance floor. The DJ also wasn't great and that didn't help the party atmosphere. No one can bump and grind to taylor swift.... Alot of spanish music but that was so much better than the random techno and taylor swift music. Disembarkation was just as smooth as coming on. Great job to all the staff on board. Overall even though it was more of a kid ship I had a amazing time. If you going to Cozumel do the Fury beach catamaran it was amazing, great service...snorkleing was a little crowded but the beach was awesome and the floating playground that I didnt think I was going to like was the best part! Money was totally worth it. Last note: the ship is very big much of it was staterooms. I usually always see the same people after a few days of being on the ship or even meet other couples. This was not the case due to its size. Keep in mind I had a amazing time theres always something to complain about theres no such thing as perfect and if I had a chance to be back on the ship I would be there in a heartbeat! Read Less

Overall our cruise was excellent. Service was great. The Epic is not our favorite ship. We do not like how you are unable to walk completely around the ship. Our cabin steward, Jose, was excellent. Cagney's, French Restaurant, Teppanyaki were great. Italian -- bread with dipping olive oils were great -- but chicken parm tasted a bit off and lasagna a little dry. We ate breakfast every morning at Taste which was good. We had (2) lunches at Taste and we were disappointed in both of them. Menu changed and didn't like the choices as much. The first one was on day of boarding and I had the shrimp sandwich which was very processed. The last sea day, we had the meatball sandwich and the sandwich was missing the top of the bread. In fairness, we didn't say anything to server. We usually very much enjoy 2nd City. The night that we attended, the show was not very funny. Several people walked out during the performance. We stayed. Cruise director, Pedro, and staff were very good. The last time that we cruised the Epic, Susie was the Cruise Director. We never saw her until the very last day of a 7 day cruise. On every other ship and on this past cruise, you see the cruise director and staff numerous times throughout the day. Legends show was entertaining. Cleanliness of the ship was excellent. As always, we book our excursions through Norwegian. For all excursions, cruise staff did an excellent in making exiting of ship a very easy process -- very organized. Our first stop was Jamaica and we did the Dunn River Fall and VIP Bamboo Beach trip. Words of advise -- when climbing the Dunn River Fall -- do not take anything with you such as cell phones or sunglasses. We didn't take our cell but I lost my sunglasses. Our Tour Guide, Latoya, was very good. She very attentive. All drinks and food was served by her to our lounge chair. Our second excursion in Grand Cayman -- Norwegian staff was organized, but Grand Cayman Tour Company was not as organized. We went to Tiki Beach. Beach was nice. We had lounge chairs -- hamburger/ hot dog/ salad lunch which wasn't bad. However, when we were trying to get the shuttle bus back to the ship -- very disorganized -- our time to meet was to be 1 pm -- we got to the meeting spot 5 to 10 minutes early -- and stood for probably half an hour waiting for transportation back to ship. When we finally got on the shuttle bus with people from a Carnival Ship also -- one of the guests had wet swim trunks and the bus driver told him that he would not be able to board the bus. An argument over this issue occurred and finally one of the other passengers gave the guy a towel to sit on and we proceeded. On the journey back to the ship, the bus driver had some friends or family on the bus and we did a pit stop through Burger King which was a little odd. Last excursion, was in Cozemal. We did the snorkel/paddle board excursion. We had a short instruction period. Once we got out, I tried standing and fell off and was told that I had to go back into shore by the guide. He said that his manager motioned to him that I had held my paddle in the wrong direction and it was unsafe. However, I would have moved my paddle position if I had known that this was the issue. I wasn't getting back up on the board because I was unable to, but just taking a break and enjoying the water. Overall, we had a wonderful trip and looking forward to our next cruise with Norwegian. The staff is what really makes Norwegian. The Epic is not our favorite Norwegian ship. We know that it is going to Europe shortly and into dry dock in September. Read Less

I have been on a number of cruises with and without the kids. This one was pretty standard in terms of kids’ stuff, on-board activities and those same 5 line dancing songs played over and over. The ship itself was well maintained and clean. There were a couple of instances where an amenity was not working like a pool or the water slides but these were quickly remedied. People on board (the passengers) were nice and seemed happy. The crew was outstanding from a customer service point of view. Meaning they really seemed like they cared and were accommodating. However, there were several instances where they did not seem to know what or where or when something was going on and provided inaccurate information which was frustrating. The most frustrating part of the ship is the lack of clocks. There is an itinerary and a schedule. I for one do not use a watch and onboard do not use a phone so figuring out the time was a very big challenge. The gym was clean and up-to-date and had a number of activities that one could attend. The running track on the other hand is only on one side of the ship so it was not as nice as some other ships and the turn on the ends was not pleasant. Shopping on-board was limited but then again it depends on what you are looking for I guess. The layout of the ship was ok meaning you can find things but in general, to me, it just seemed to be one long corridor with “areas” along the way not really destinations if you will. The upper deck was also designed in a way where it was not circular so to go from one side to the other you have to go down a deck and then back up. Very non-user-friendly layout. Rooms are small. Smaller than usual I think. However, they have a design that the shower and toilet areas are separated which is good for getting ready with others. Getting on and off the ship in all cases was quick and efficient. This was the best experience compared to other ships. This includes when docked or tendering. The food. The included dining rooms were nice. The food was ok in them. The buffets however were outstanding for all meals. There are a number of selections in types of foods (the Indian was a big winner). There are themes each day and I cannot think of anything I did not like. Seating in the buffet was limited but we always found a seat. Hours are good too. Read Less

This was our second spring break cruise trip with the kids (15 and 9). We went on Carnival Conquest last year and decided to see the Epic before is disappeared for good! I'm glad we did. This ship is HUGE! It had plenty of activities and food options to appease most everyone on board. The embarkation, and all entering/exiting of the ship was handled amazingly well. I was nervous about how they would handle so many people, but I never waited in line, even for a tender. Well done NCL! The kids were a little apprehensive to join the camps and they wanted to just run free for the week. However once they did try the activities we couldn't peel them away! The entertainment was so-so, we tried the comedy shows a few times and left. The Blue Man Group was boring as well to me, but the rest of the audience seemed to enjoy watching these men silently make a big mess with paint. The Cirque show was my favorite, but buyer beware...opt for the premium seating and arrive early. We arrived 20 min before the show started and got the last seat over in the corner. My head was on the table trying to watch the aerial acts. The DJ's frankly got on my nerves because they played the same 5 line dance cruise ship songs every time they would come out to try to get people to dance. The service was a mixed bag...everyone was friendly but also confused. We would ask questions about when things were and no one would know. I saw 2 menus in the window at the Taste restaurant so I asked it was the lunch menu and they said yes. We went and were told at our table that the menu outside was for dinner! I tried to attend a class at the gym, and when I showed up they trainer had a PT session and told me he would try to reschedule it for tomorrow. Oh and there are no clocks on the ship! Only on a few passing televisions. I understand their theme is to have no agenda, but thats a bit much! The food was outstanding, we mostly ate at the buffet because it had everything and was just so tasty and convenient. The restaurants required 90 min (walking right in), which was usually hard to do and see a show. Never had to wait for a table though and the servers were great. We booked our excursions on our own to save money. Hired a driver for the day in Jamaica, he took us everywhere for the same price they wanted just for a single trip up the mountain. Tip...walk away from the main hub of taxis, the prices get cheaper as you get farther away...and don't be afraid to haggle! We went snorkeling and swimming with stingrays in Grand Cayman with Captain Marvin. This was our second time with him and I highly recommend it. Then finally we decided to rent a Jeep in Cozumel. Which again we got for half the price as what the shore excursion desk wanted. It was a great day to just explore on our own, visit the beaches and ruins. All in all, we are addicted to cruising. Its a one stop shop to drop your bags off, put your phone in the safe and kick back for a week without worrying about anything. No cooking, laundry, cleaning, etc! Already planning for next year's new itinerary...what shall we try next! Read Less

This was the first cruise we have taken. I read a lot if the reviews and felt very prepared for the worst and the best. As a first time cruiser, there were a few things that we felt should have been explained more clearly. For example, we were told that we could leave our bags in the baggage area and they would be delivered to our room. However, we opted to take them with us when checked in. Our room was ready, so we were able to go directly to the room and put them inside. We discovered later, that bags aren't put in your room, but merely placed in front of your room door. When we first boarded the ship, we had no idea where we were or how to get to our room. There wasn't any ship personnel standing in the lobby that we could ask. We knew we were on the 11th floor so once we located the elevator it was easy to figure out (we did walk around the whole floor before realizing even rooms were on one side and odd were on the other). The room was a little awkward but I'd watched the Youtube videos and read some reviews, so I knew what to expect ( and even how to find the hidden light switch over the sink). The room showed its wear and tear ...and I could tell the cleaning/turnover was rushed but I always bring Clorox wipes to re-sanitize the commonly touched areas, doorknobs, toilet, etc. We had a balcony room and their were toenail clippings and hair on the balcony floor (gross). As for the freestyle eating, it was great. We don't like a lot of fuss when it comes to meals so we were happy to eat when and where we wanted. Our first time, we picked up food at the buffet and couldn't find the silverware or didn't know if we were allowed to sit just anywhere. So we searched for a few minutes for silverware thinking we may have missed it. We didn't realize it was on the tables because so many people were dining, they were having a hard time keeping the bins restocked. Again, no one explained that to us ...so if you are first timer on Norwegian, just sit at any empty table and the silverware is the bin with the ketchup and mustard :-). We also searched for the ice maker but you must contact your room steward for this. Most importantly, when disembarking, you are asked to tag your suitcases based on the time that you want to leave he ship. Your luggage is then grouped by your color outside the ship. PLEASE PICK UP YOUR LUGGAGE BEFORE YOU GO THROUGH CUSTOMS!!! Fortunately for us, as we were about to go through customs one of the NCL people asked if we had luggage and directed us to pick it up. There were a few people who missed this part and once they went through customs were not allowed back inside to pick up their luggage. Apparently, this is a HUGE deal. So, again - PLEASE PICK UP YOUR LUGGAGE BEFORE YOU GO THROUGH CUSTOMS!!! Overall, it was great. We had a good time. Their was good variety of food (even a decent selection of sugar free deserts & drinks), shows and entertainment. While I didn't like everything, I can't say I "disliked" much. We will definitely cruise with Norwegian again. Read Less

First, I've just got to say that I don't understand the bad reviews of the Epic. Sure, there were some issues, but overall - this is a great ship and we had a great time! We had booked a Spa Mini-Suite, and were happy with the stateroom - once you get used to it! Yes, the bathrooms are strange, the sink is small, but so what....that did not ruin our trip! The spa was great place to relax in the evening or mornings each day - terrific facility! There is always something to do on the Epic - shows, demonstrations, seminars, games, activities for ALL! Blue Man was good, Legends in Concert was good, Second City was OK (went to an all ages show - probably should have checked out the "adult" shows later in the evening). Band at Fat Cat and Jam Rock were good, never made it to Howl at the Moon, but heard good things; and all the other musicians and bands that performed throughout the ship were good too. Again - plenty to see and do on this ship! Now on to the food...Overall good. We had pre-booked dinner at La Cuccina, Cagneys and Shanghai's prior to the cruise. The remaining meals we had either in the buffet or Taste or the Manhattan room - all of these had good food and service - the dining rooms better than the buffet, but it was OK for a buffet. Now on to the specialty restaurants... a lot of the items offered in La Cuccina were available in the dining rooms as well - so save your money! The food their was OK, not bad, but not great. Service was good. The service at Shanghai's was good - the food was OK. Save your $15.00 per person, and just eat "a-la-carte" at the Noodle House outside the restaurant. The fried rice and noodle dishes are very good and range from $4-6 dollars each. Now to Cagney's...the worst service BUT the best food! Took nearly 15 minutes to be welcomed by our waiter after being seated, 15 minutes later to get the drinks we ordered, 30 minutes to get our appetizers - then another 30 minutes to get our main course after our appetizers were delivered. Our waiter never came to check on us only to run up to use when we left our table to sign our check. The food was delicious, but overall the worst service on the entire boat! The staff and crew on this ship were always friendly and helpful - never really experienced anyone that made you feel "un-welcome" that some reviews have stated. Our room steward (Reggie) greeted us by name every time we saw him, and took good care of our stateroom. Sure, there were some things that could be addressed (we had a broken reading lamp and our refrigerator kept locking in our stateroom) but it was all fixed quickly. Remember, this is a large floating hotel with over 4000 guests and 2000 staff, and like any hotel this size - there may be issues - BUT nothing that would cause me to give a bad review. Thanks NCL for a great time....now only 74 days until our next cruise to Alaska on the Sun! Read Less

This was my (and my husband's) first cruise. If you are in your 20s to 40s and without children, here are the top five things you need to know, in order of priority: 1. GET A POSH PASS. But don't tell anyone. I want one to be available the next time I cruise. 2. Shut up about the (un)available TV stations. You want to watch sports? Stay home. 3. Buy Poo-Pourri. It may just save your relationship. 4. Stay up dancing all night at Spice, after you go to Blue Man Group and Second City and Howl at the Moon. 5. As much as you may want to do karaoke, resist the urge - especially as it gets later in the week. Trust me. Just... go sing along with Howl at the Moon if you want to sing. Karaoke gets frightening. You know exactly what I mean. Miscellany: If you're easily intimidated, avoid the vendors in Jamaica. And the drug dealers. Don't try to walk from 7-mile beach back to the terminal. Don't. I say it again, Don't. I'll happily share with you pictures of iguanas. Don't make the hour-long walk. Take a lorazepam if you have to fly out of Miami airport. Maybe two. It's a nightmare. Make it to the Mr. Sexy Legs contest. Bring a water bottle with you and have bartenders fill it regularly. Every single silver shop in Cozumel is the same. Don't waste time. Learn Spanish. You'll get a better price. Tip well. Everywhere. Every time. Even if tips are included. Wear sunscreen. Every day. Shut up about it. Don't bother with the "everything $10" shop on the boat. Hit up Teppenyaki. Good time, good food. Drink a lot. Of water. Who am I kidding... drink a lot of Patron. Margaritaville is fun but overpriced. Hit it up -once. Go to the gym. Or don't. It's your vacation. Either way, just trolling the ship, you're probably getting to your 10,000 steps per day. Speaking of which, INFINITE THANKS to whoever found my FitBit and returned it to Guest Services within 2 hours. I am so thankful for your honesty and would like to send you a gift in return. If by some unlikely chance you are reading this, please let me know. Is anyone from the Kenny-squared Chicago crew on this board??? I'd (we'd) love to stay in touch and do some stunt-man and chocolate pretzel shots if you're in town. If you don't boo the Sox, we won't boo the Cubs. Last word: You're on a freaking cruise ship in the Caribbean. If you have something to complain about, please politely do so in the company of those folks leading as miserable an existence as you are. Spare the rest of us. We had a ball! Happy to answer any questions!!! Sarah (Massachusetts) Read Less

My wife, our son (13) and his buddy (13) had Haven Owners Suites - #17032 & #17035. Upon entry into the special boarding area, we were greeted with an NCL representative who was new to this ship. It felt a bit disorganized. The waiting area and the continental breakfast in the Cruise Terminal felt like an after-thought. We sat there for well over a 1/2 hour while the ship was getting prepared. hen we were directed to board the ship. While checking in this caused us to bypass the Embarking Photo Op. Our rooms were very nice and spacious. Our balcony was nice but too much furniture with not a lot of options for stacking or moving around. Also these two rooms were directly below the "Posh" Area of the Haven. So from 6:00 AM (Un-securing, unstacking, dragging, and placing of chaises, tables and loungers) the noise above woke me most every morning. The balcony views are partially blocked by two elevators that provide access to floors 15, 16, and 18. Our Butler - Richard - awesome. Our Concierge - David - exceptional. The Haven Lounge and Restaurant area was nice with indoor and outside dining. The Food offerings were good not exceptional. The menu was limited with no change up during the week. It would be nice if they had a unique daily breakfast special to mix it up a bit. Sunday - First Nite we ate at the Wasabi Sushi Bar while the boys ate at O'Sheehan's Sports Bar. We all saw the Blue Man Group. We have seen the Blue Man Group before and the show was similar but the Cyber Cafe Skit was very nicely done. Monday - Second Nite we did Cirque Dreams. Great intimate setting with a nice food offering. The Show was incredible, interactive, risqué but still very PG-13. The performers were exceptional. Tuesday - Third Nite - wife and I ate at Cagney's. Food was good. We played it safe and had small filets. Nicely done, Great bottle of wine. Boys - room service - chicken fingers and fries. Wednesday - Fourth Nite ate at Shanghai's Noodle. Sat at the bar and had a great offering of appetizers and one entree. Best way to go to taste the dumplings and great noodle dishes. Boys - room service - chicken fingers and fries. Thursday - Fifth Nite we ate at Moderno - The Brazilian Steakhouse. We ate with 7 total people that we met on Cruise Critic. Fun Crowd, great stories and the food was rather standard. Boys ate at O'Sheehan's again. Friday - Sixth Nite we ate at Teppanyaki. The four of us ate there. Sat next to a guy we saw at the Dolphin Excursion and shared pleasantries. Our Chef needed to up his game with the presentation. Cracked Eggs, Missed his Hat twice and the noise from the next table drowned out his sub-par show. The food was of quality but the amounts were very generous. Saturday - Seventh Nite we ate a Noodle Bar again by ourselves. It was good quick and convenient. Proceeded over to the Casino and won $3,200.00 on a $3.00 slot. Not that is way you finish off a trip. Read Less
