Booked this cruise because we were getting off another cruise that day (it was a Monday) and wanted to cruise to finish off the week cruising before having to fly home on the weekend. I didn't even think about it being Spring Break and a 5-day party cruise until after we had already booked. My Bad! The ship was FULL of 20-somethings doing what 20-somethings do on a cruise on spring break. Not the ships fault, my fault for not putting 2 and 2 together before booking. Luckily there were no at sea days, & we could get off the ship and do our own thing during the days.
Embarkation was easy. Access to rooms was around 1pm. Hallways to the cabins were literally closed off by locked doors. There was a fun Calypso band playing on the pool deck while we waited to set sail.
Ship: Overall Enchantment is worked! We had a Jr. Suite, room 8118. The room itself was extremely spacious with a full bathtub. The view in the room was what I would consider the space of 2 full sized sliding glass doors. There was a full vanity with TONS of storage. A full couch, and two chairs with 2 ottomans and a coffee table and still lots of room to move about. That was Excellent. The balcony chairs were standard, non-reclining. The balcony's are NOT private, with opaque glass that you could somewhat see through at night if your neighbors lights were on. The glass was also angled at the top corner so that if standing by you railing, you can easily see your neighbor standing on their balcony or look into their room. Also, if I wanted to leave my curtains open while we slept, our neighbor could easily look into our room and see our bed via the placement of large mirrors in the room. Poor design. Also, our particular balcony, being on the 8th floor, was located next to a 9th floor bump-out by the ping pong tables, so anyone standing at those 9th floor windows could easily look into our balcony. Drainage was also a daily issue on our balcony as the daily maintenance pressure washing water pooled up in the edge gutter on the floor. So a few days my shoes, I left on the balcony, got wet by that drainage water. I used bath towels to soak up the extra water each day. Since we were on the 8th floor, I could easily hear the staff pushing their carts on the 9th floor pool deck with each wheel hitting every bump in the decking. Poor location. Something to consider when choosing a room. Also, the cabinets in our room were worn, like REALLY worn, where the finishes were just wearing off. There was fading on the wall above the bed where a picture once hung and has not been replaced and there was a non-removable smudge on the vanity mirror about 2-3 inches long and wide as well. Almost like hot glue that dried and couldn't be removed and was smudged. Drainage in the tub was very, very slow so I stood in a few inches of water with every shower. But eventually it did drain.
Food in the MDR felt & tasted mass produced, which, obviously it is, but since we'd just gotten off another line, we had a good, recent comparison. The other line, nothing felt or tasted mass produced even though we know it was. Enchantment felt like things were sitting under a heat lamp for some dinners. Although some dinners were very good I must give some credit. Buffet was so so at best. There was a Starbucks onboard, and with our non-alcohol drink package, we could get Starbucks included with that package. Our non-alcohol package also came with a refillable soda cup that we could use at a few self-serve soda machines around the ship. That was very nice not to have to wait in a bar line for soda. Mock-tails were also included with this package and were very yummy as well.
Entertainment was really good. The cruise director & assistant director were excellent! Brought lots of energy to the shows. Could always find a seat in the theater, although I contribute that to most of the 20-somethings were not interested in the shows on this particular sailing and that was most of the population on this particular cruise. Every evening there was a fun game or activity happening in the atrium, and typically a very loud, and fun-sounding sail away dance party on the pool deck. We didn't attend this dance party but could easily hear it from our balcony. But since it didn't last long, the music was fun to listen to and didn't bother us at all.
Staff was VERY good. Everyone was happy and in good spirits. They did a wonderful job for what they have to work with, which in my opinion, is a ship that is in desperate need of renovation EVERYWHERE. But it is what it is, this seems like a ship that is mainly used for short, party cruises and when things get trashed, they don't seem super eager to replace it, knowing it'll just get worked again and I really can't blame them for that.
Disembarkation was odd & slow. Even though we carried our own luggage, there was a huge line that wrapped around 1/4 of the ship and took us about 1/2 hour to get off once we got in line. Again, just had got off another ship, with more passengers, with probably a 5 minute disembarkation. So, not sure why the delay.
Overall, this ship is what it is, a short, party cruise ship. If that is what you are looking for, this is a fine choice. You will have a great time. If you are looking for a more adult experience with a bit more upscale amenities, this may not be the ship for you. But like mentioned before, my bad for this major oversight. Read Less
