AWful food. AWful rooms, smelled of urine and sweat. Very very rocky ride. We missed two out of four ports of call. Very expensive and disappointing. Spend your money elsewhere. When second port was cancelled, passengers scrambled to secure their own lounge chairs from the pile on the top deck. Added activiites for our "fun day at sea, included more shopping discounts. Yippee. Not. The cruise director taunted passengers when we could plainly see Grand Turk with "see that beautiful beach, that gorgeous water and sun? Well we won't be going there today!" In his annoyingly overly chipper sing song voice. THe Platinum dining room rocked and rolled so much, we saw many people abandon their meal and never return for another night. People commented on feeling as if we were being "held hostage". Just a nightmare on the high seas. Our balcony cabin creaked and crackled all. Night. Long. I have not one positive to say about this and my family have all agreed to not ever travel with Carnival again. Read Less

Cruise Line: Carnival Ship: Glory Cabin: 6393 Cabin Type: Exterior Dates: July 26-August 2, 2014 Embarkation Port: Miami, FL Region: Eastern Caribbean Ports visited: Half Moon Cay, The Bahamas, St. Thomas, USVI, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Grand Turk I went on the Carnival Glory as a 15 year birthday present along with my Dad, Grandma, Paw Paw, Uncle, Aunt and two 11 year old twin nieces, eight of us total. We arrived in Miami a day early and stayed at the JW Marriott Marquis which was about a ten minute cab ride from the terminal. We flew into Fort Lauderdale because it was cheaper air flight but then had to pay about $80 for a taxi from FLL to our hotel in Miami. It was nice to relax and have a big full breakfast at the hotel before boarding the ship. Embarkation We arrived at the Miami port about 11:30 am. When we unloaded our taxi, there was a man with a cart, but he didn’t help us unload and put them on the cart but still wanted a tip. We tipped him I think just so our bags would safely arrive at our room. We got into a huge line but Grandma and Paw Paw got to get into a special line because Grandma (who walks with a cane) used a wheelchair to board and got the special treatment. They would not let anyone except Paw Paw go with her. We would not see them again until we were on the ship. It was interesting to see the security people going through each person’s suitcase looking for alcohol. Since you are allowed to bring bottled water onto the ship some people try and sneak alcohol in water bottles or other containers. The security people seemed more intent on finding alcohol than other things like weapons or contraband. They would shake the water bottles and could tell by the bubbles if it was water. The people in front and behind us had they bottles taken from them. It took about an hour and a half to board the Glory from the time we arrived. When we got on the ship we found a table at the big Lido Restaurant and met up with the grandparents, ate and waited until our room was ready. Right after we finished eating lunch we went to check on our room and it was ready but our suitcases hadn’t arrived yet. (Our suitcases arrived around 5pm) My least favorite part of a cruise is usually the lifeboat drill and that was the case on the Glory as well. We had to stand shoulder to shoulder 6 rows deep along the outer deck and wait for about 30 minutes until everyone was counted. It was very crowded and hot and some people were getting sick. Our Cabin Our cabin was number 1261 (6A) which was an exterior cabin with a window. The room was set up as two small full size beds and had a big picture window. There was a couch with a table that converted to a third bed if needed. The air conditioning did not work well in our room. It sounded like the fan was blowing but it did not get cool. The hallway was always much cooler. My Dad told the lady at guest services and someone came in to check it (or so they say, we never saw them) but they said they could not find anything wrong. It stayed warm the whole week. Every room was booked so we could not change rooms. Grandma and Paw Paw’s room was a little warm too, but since they had a balcony, they could open the balcony and open their cabin door and a rush of cool hallway air would rush into the room. Our room was very near the elevator and this was a very good location as we could always be on another floor in just a minute or two. Half Moon Cay This is the private Island that Carnival owns. They anchored the ship offshore and we had to take a tender to the island. There were long lines for the tender rides, but we had breakfast and waited until the crowds were smaller and got right on a tender. The beach is beautiful. The sand is white and feels like powdered sugar. I have never felt sand this soft before. The lounge chairs were almost all taken. There were six of us that came ashore (Grandma and Paw Paw stayed on the ship) and we could only find one lounge chair so we put our stuff on that and got into the water (I guess getting a chair is why everyone rushes to the island on the first tenders). There was a lunch served in a pavillion area that was a short walk away. Lunch was hot dogs and hamburgers, but the hamburgers were no where near as good as Guy’s Burgers on board the ship. The drink stations (for tea and lemonade) were not laid out very well and there always seemed to be a long line to get drinks in the very small cups. My Dad had a water bottle that he used for lemonade and that saved him many extra trips to the drink line. The Bahamas We just did some walking around and shopping in the town. It was so hot I thought Paw Paw was going to pass out (but he didn’t). They have all the other same stores that every port in the Caribbean has so the shopping starts to look the same after a couple of cruises. St. Thomas, USVI We did the Sunny Liston Island tour and it was great. He took us shopping, to a few sightseeing places and then to a beach. He had speakers on his “bus” that were loud and everyone around us could hear Sunny talking as we approached. If you want a quiet afternoon, this is not for you. But it was much cheaper than the similar excursions on the ship so my Dad like that and we had a really good time. Google “Sunny Liston Tours” for info on his tours. San Juan, Puerto Rico It was so hot here that we got off the ship and did some walking around the city and then returned to the ship. We had been to Old San Juan and the fort on a previous trip, plus I wasn’t feeling good so my cousins went on exploring while my Dad took e back to the ship. Grand Turk We had never been to Grand Turk before and it was a nice little island. We booked a snorkeling excursion through the ship and that took most of our stay on the island. We snorkeled in a couple of different locations from a boat. There were a few three foot sharks swimming with us at one point but we were told that these sharks were harmless and used to people so we petted them. When we got done with our snorkeling we walked around the handful of shops we are essentially the same shops you see at all the other islands, but here they are all in one small location. While we were on the boat a popular bar was pointed out to us, but we really did not see much more than that and the shops. Disembarkation: Getting off the ship wasn’t too bad. Since we had plenty of time until our flight, we were one of the last groups to get off the ship. They did offer an option if you wanted to carry ALL your luggage off the ship you could leave in the first group, but since we had Grandma and Paw Paw we just waited and ate a long breakfast until our group was called.   Read Less

It is a challenge to get around the port but we arrived safe and sound. We were disappointed that it took so long to board the ship almost two hours in line. We missed lunch on the ship so we decided to take the SPA tour which was awesome to learn all they do there. We did not take advantage of the specials even though they were tempting. We got to our room which was awesome our first time with a Balcony and I have to say we can't turn back it will always be a balcony from now on. We had coffee and Danish each morning on the balcony and an after dinner wine or champagne . Awesome views. If I was a first timer I would not notice the little things our anytime dining was a disappointment the waiters were overworked and could not spend any time making the time we had there memorable. Food was cold most times. We could have gotten the same meal on Lido Deck at least that was what it felt like except we were waited on. We did enjoy the ship it was awesome! The Christmas tree and the caroling each night and the snow falling was so festive for the Christmas season. We had movie night on the lido laid back on the chairs with popcorn enjoyed the outdoors, and we had late pizza and snacks. Hot Tub was very therapeutic we enjoyed it after walking all day. The ports of call were awesome we enjoyed each port the weather we had was a blessing we did our walking tour and shopping. We had a great room steward he was very attentive to what we wanted made himself available and always kept our room neat and clean. The Glory is so big and spacious you don't feel crowded it is decorated with good taste and so much to do day and night. Read Less

Flew into Miami day of the cruise and took the SAS shuttle to the port.Getting on board was quick and easy because we filled out all the immigration forms on the net prior to the cruise. Immediately went to Longboards for fish and chips and Bouillabaisse all were very good. Took the spa tour and hubby got a free facial and I got a free hairdo,it was great. Everyone we met on board from staff to other cruisers were so friendly you couldn't help but have a good time. Ports of call were Nassau and Freeport.Beach in Nassau at the Hilton were nice,Freeport was a straw market not much else, beach was ok. We did the Latin dance party the first night and the white hot disco the second both were a lot of fun with lots of people having a good time. Did the steakhouse food is as good as previous reviewers have mentioned but what really surprised me was Guy's burgers.I am not a big burger fan but these were to die for so I had them on a daily basis. The balcony room was great will never sail without a balcony. It had a fridge decent size bath room and queen size bed, very nice. We were in room 6273 close to elevators that take you down to level 0 to disembark for shore excursions or to level 3 to go thru custom so the cabin to me was in a good location. The room had a queen bed slightly firmer than my liking but comfy. The balcony was small with 2 chairs and a small table which was great for morning coffee or breakfast. We left the door open at night to hear the ocean it was great. Bathroom was of decent size with the typical amenities of toothpaste,a razor and a couple of packets of shampoo. On the shower wall typical Carnival shower and shampoo dispensers. Bathroom did have adequate shelf spacing so all of my toiletries from home were out and within reach. Decent closet and under bed space for storing suite cases after we unpacked. Mini fridge was great for keeping drinks cool but you have to ask your cabin steward to unlock it and take out the mini bar items inside. Getting off the boat again quick and easy as we took our own luggage off and we were off the boat in 15 min with SAS transportation at the port ready to take us back to FLL airport. Already planning my next cruise with Carnival. Read Less

There were good and annoying things about the cruise so lets start with the good. Got to Port of Miami at 11:00 am and got on board quick and easy,we did all of our pre boarding stuff on line so all they did was take pictures, did quick id verification and that's it on to the buffet. DH went to the buffet on Lido deck and I ran up to Longboards for Bouillabaisse and Fish and Chips both were good and after Hubby saw my Bouillabaisse he got a bowl and loved it.We ate upstairs in longboard because the lido deck dining area was crowded and we wanted lunch with a water view and that's exactly what we got as a matter of fact we were the only people sitting up there and it was wonderful. Waite staff upstairs cleared our plates offered to get us drinks etc very attentive. After buffet we wanted to find out were and how to get to the Spa hot tubs so off we went to the Spa.Got there and they quickly directed us to their spa tour.Saw the Acupuncture Lady found out you don't even feel the pins go in learned something new.Next stop the beauty shop. They ask for 2 models to volunteer 1 man 1 woman so hubby and I volunteered. He loved the free facial and shave a 60 dollar value and I absolutely without a doubt loved my hair and scalp oil treatment and blow out a 110 dollar value for free.My hair was so shiny, soft and moved beautifully.I have African American hair and had not had a relaxer done since May, way over due so this was the perfect treat to start our cruise. We had a balcony room with a small fridge which we had to get the steward to unlock in order to use it.the room appeared to be bigger than the one we had on destiny we enjoyed it stewards were very friendly and don't ask me how they remembered our names.bed was okay not as comfy as on the Sensation.Room location was close to elevators to getting on and off ship was quick and easy at our elevator access.Noise want bad if your a light sleeper this isn't the room for you.We had no trouble sleeping. We had late reservations for Emeralds the steakhouse for 9:30 pm,I don't usually eat this late but this was the only time they had unless we wanted to dine Friday which is lobster night in the main dining room. Got hungry around 5:30 and the burgers at Guys on lido deck were smelling good we got one to split for a snack while waiting on our steak house resv and omg that was the best burger.I haven't had a burger that taste like that since I was a little girl, needless to say lunch daily was at Guys and I'm not a big burger lover. Partied in the lounge to some Salsa music before dinner and white hot disco afterwards everyone there was friendly and dancing all over the place and just having a good time. Dinner in the steak house was very good I had Chilean sea bass and hubby had the lamb chops, all large portions all good as well as creamed spinach and bread.Dessert was humongous and they gave us a take out for the cheese cake to go back to our room.As others have said free bottle of wine if you book steak house on first night of cruise it was wonderful. Lobster night Friday was good hubby had 3 tails I had prime rib well done, yes that's the way I eat my beef,it was tender ,hot and delicious.Dessert not so good I had an apple puff or tart type dessert it was very cold and tasteless. matradie was great we were originally assigned a group table of maybe 10 people we said no way it our anniversary so matradie gave us private table for 2. Friday port was Nassau I had been there before so we walked around had drinks on the beach, weather was wonderful and we enjoyed it. Had coffee in bed by room service and ran up to lido for omelets to bring back to room they were very good line was short and this was at about 10:00 am ate on balcony and enjoyed. Saturday was Freeport very boring nothing really to do if you don't snorkel or shop to you drop and the straw market.Senior Frogs was kicking but there wasn't enough room to dance area small and the DJ was trying to get everyone to do the cupid shuffle. Late night after the partying we got pizza off the back lido deck very good eating. The bad on the cruise was the hot tubs were always crowed and the water freezing cold and they never opened the spa hot tub. Other than that great cruise! Read Less

Bahamas Birdwatching Trip Report -- Carnival Glory -- Room 7211 On Nov 15, 2012, we went on a 3-night cruise on the Carnival Glory to the Bahamas with stops in Nassau & Freeport. We had a balcony room but didn't see any birds from the balcony we would not have seen touring the islands. We couldn't stay very long on the balcony because of the cigarette, cigar, & marijuana smoke. At least we didn't smell any smoke in our room. We should have got an inside room for this trip. The Miami cruise port was pretty jammed-up with passengers when we arrived at 2pm Th -- we were on the ship by 3pm. We carried-on our luggage (most people didn't) -- this allowed us to depart the ship in Miami at 8am Sun with no lines to contend with. We thought the meals on the ship were pretty mediocre. The Br choices were terrible in the buffet & dining room. We didn't eat any lunches on the ship. When we came back from birding in the late afternoon the only food option open was the Burger Joint that had very long lines. The only things we enjoyed for Dn were the crab cakes one night and the Melting Chocolate Cake they served every night. The wine cost $31 a bottle -- it was good but you could buy it at Sam's Club for $10. There was one dress-up night but only 10% of the people dressed-up. You could wear shorts to the dinning room every night. We didn't go to any of the shows or late night lounges. However, when the bars closed around 5am we could hear all the loud drunks talking in the hallway. We didn't go on any shore trips organized by the ship -- the cruise was a means of attending my nephew's 50th B'day party and going birdwatching; i.e., we organized our own shore trips!!! In Nassau (New Providence Island) on Nov 16 we arranged for Carolyn Wardle (bahamasoutdoors@yahoo.com 242-457-0329) to be our birding guide. Carolyn has lived on the island for 40 years and really knew where to find the birds. Darkness ended a great day of birding in which we saw 54 Bird Species, including 16 Bahamas Specialty Birds. In Freeport (Grand Bahamas) on Nov 17 we had arranged for Erika Gates -- (erikagatesgb@aol.com 242-373-2485) to be our birding guide. Erika has lived on the island for 30 years and is incredibly passionate about wildlife. Hurricane Sandy passed over Grand Bahamas and stripped the trees of leaves, but 3-weeks later you would never know anything much had happened. Darkness again ended a great day of birding in which we saw 58 Bird Species, including 12 Bahamas Specialty Birds. In 2 days in the Bahamas we saw 81 Bird Species, including 18 Bahamas Specialty Birds. To see the remaining Bahamas Specialty Birds, Erica said we would need to go to Abaco and Andros Islands. I should of none something would go wrong when the ship leave Miami almost 3 hours late. Dinner the first night took one and a half hours to get our food. In fact our whole side of the dining room was pissed off. One guy got up and yelled at the server, he had ordered a coffee drink 35 minutes ago and still hadn't gotten it. We noticed the servers were not insight, they were hiding because of the problem. A lady at our table left at 10:00 giving up waiting for her dinner. Then others left. We held out, being hungry and the buffet was now closed. Dinner came and the mashed potatoes were stone cold and the chicken over cooked and dried out and cold! Two others at our table told off the head waiter and left. Terrible meal, we did get desert after I said how long will that take and he went right to the kitchen and got it. The chocolate warming cake was delicious. The shows were terrible if you want to call them shows. They had a magician one night and a juggler one night and the cruise director told jokes the first night with a comdian with him. The comedian was good. This is the first cruise I have ever been on that didn't have singers or dancers on any night. Disappointed. Can't tell you how many people walked out on the shows, to many. The boat was like an ice box, always cold. We saw several people wearing their robes inside all the time. At breakfast the lines were terrible, I have never experienced these kind of lines. 30 minutes for an omlet. Even a head waiter said he had been watching and the flow isn't right. Some of the things on the buffet were very good and other things weren't. The Guys burger joint was fantastic, ate a burger everyday!! The deli had great sandwiches!! The worker weren't friendly like on other lines, not helpful at all. Our room stewart was good. When leaving Freeport the engine had a problem so we sat there 2 hours longer, alot of mad people. They couldn't go in the casino or shop on board. I will say getting on the boat and getting off the boat was super fast. They had a caribean party on the pool deck that was to start at 9:30 and it finally started at 10:30. Par for this boat. People were leaving after waiting a half hour for it to start. This was advertised to be The Best Party of the Cruise, that was a big joke. We stayed 30 minutes after it started, all of us were bored and found way more fun inside. Bad cruise director he just stood aound for half an hour doing nothing but posing for pictures instaed of getting party going. Our cabin was in the aft on deck 6 and the room would vibrate with a loud bass noise until 2am, very hard to ignore. There was no sleeping until after 2am. we would always be out until after midnight so it wasn't like we were trying to go to sleep at 10:00 like other with children. They need better noise insulation. The new upgrades were fine and an improvement, they just need to fix some of the other problems. Would never go on the Glory again. Done Sensation 4 times and liked it, Facination was good, and loved the Paradise. What happened to the Glory! All I heard was people complaining about this boat, I should of paid more attention to the reviews before I booked this. I feel let down on our vacation. Expected more. Read Less

After a disastrous cruise aboard the Norwegian Sky, we decided to redo our Bahamas cruise back on Carnival, our trusted cruise line for Fun! We arrived at the port early and had no problem getting to check-in. The security line was very short. We got up to the check-in line and I was surprised to see that there were no kiosks for check-in (as we had previously supplied all information online). Unfortunately, due to the make up of our family (3 different last names) and this was the children's first cruise, the check-in took a little longer than we were used to, due to some confusion the agent was having. Following check-in, we were able to very quickly get on the ship and notice the refurbishment of the ship during it's Fun Ship 2.0 upgrade in dry dock. As this was the ship's first sailing following dry dock, we knew there would be some issues. Unfortunately, we were late departing from all ports, due to various reasons. The ship had a new crew, and it was apparent by the delayed dining in the dining room. The first night, dining was delayed by a half-hour. Another issue we had was with the pools and hot tubs, as they had not been setup prior to boarding and were made operational during the cruise. We were also disappointed that some of the things we have come to expect from Carnival didn't happen, such as the Welcome Aboard and Farewell Parties in the Punchliner Comedy Club. Unfortunately, we miss the free drinks that were served during these parties. At least we were offered a free drink coupon for being a loyal cruisers with Carnival. Another thing we noticed missing, was the entertainment by the dining staff during dinner the first two nights. Finally on the third night there was some following dinner. We almost missed it, as we had already left following dinner, but as we were waiting for the elevator, it started. Despite the issues, we were very glad to be back aboard a Carnival ship and still enjoyed the short cruise. We just wished we had stuck to our original plan of a back-to-back cruise on Glory, because I'm sure that as the Crew settle in on the ship and the ship becomes fully operational again, all the things we expect of Carnival will be back in place.
