My wife's family wanted to have a weekend together to celebrate 2 birthdays. There were 19 of us total. We had sailed on 8 prior Carnival cruises, 2 Royal Caribbean, and 1 Norwegian. The Fantasy was my first and looks to be my last as well. Started out fun with a smooth embarkation. First night was fun until we got to the dining room which was the late seating. With only 2 waiting on us and many other tables the service was terrible. Food courses were forgotten, food was cold, and it was impossible to find either waiter for beverage refills or any other help. Also no longer do you get a choice of breads. Now they just give you hard Cuban bread. The two fellas were awful nice but you could tell they were overwhelmed. This would happen all three nights. This was very disappointing to my wife and I as we always thought of all 3 big cruise lines Carnival had the best MDR food. I'm afraid to say no longer. Never saw my cabin attendant. Never happen before. Second day was in port. Breakfast in the lido buffet was terrible. Long lines, awful eggs, constant missing food like fruit was frustrating. Ended up with half a bagel and some canned peaches. After breakfast we got together to explore Nassau. They decided to do a drill during debarkation closing one of the gangways. Good timing Carnival. Otherwise we had fun, until dinner of course. Same problems. Cold soup, missing entrees, and no chance of refills. My favorite dessert melting chocolate cake was cold as well. Menu was bad as well. Got a cheeseburger. Still no Cabin attendant sighting. Band was good before dinner. Sea day. Same problems with breakfast so I got a breakfast burrito at the burrito bar. Was just ok. Staff was not very friendly. Common theme on the ship. Went to the sports bar in the rear of the ship to watch football. Now Carnival did a great job with this. They had every football game televised. Never seen this before. Had a great time. Got another cheeseburger from the burger joint. Good burgers. However no longer can you get all the sides you used to be able to get like macaroni and cheese and chicken nuggets. No hot dogs either. Just burgers and fries. Dinner was the same. Nobody really wanted to go but the Lido buffet is so bad and we wanted to be with our family for dinner. Never once saw our cabin attendant. So strange. That has never happen. We are so broken hearted over the decline of Carnival. The last 3 cruises ranging for 7 day cruises to this one a 3 it's been the same this being the worse by far. We were on the Breese and Sensation as well. The Fantasy ship from the first time we sailed her in 1998 to now in 2016 has changed quite a bit. They have upgraded the decor but I have to say I miss the Vegas style promenade deck. The different rooms do look nice but the ship was often dirty and overcrowded. Carnival does not manage crowds well like RCC. We won't be back. Read Less

we choose this cruise based on the reviews of friends and family who have first hand experience with carnival fantasy. We didn't regret our decision. The overall experience was good. The entertainment on the cruise was very nice, one of the nights was motor city themed and the dancers were very good and energetic and got the crowd going. There was also a stand up comedian the last night and he was hilarious, even while remaining family oriented. The first day i got seasick and called room service and they gave me some tips for food that would help and also brought me some seasick pills very quickly. The food was good, the only thing i did not like were the drinks. The ice tea tasted horrible, it had almost no taste and the lemonade was way too sour. We went dining with our family one evening and the waiter was very nice, his name was Obinna. He was very friendly and made sure we had everything we wanted and he gave us suggestions about dessert (which he pronounced as 'desert', funny). What i liked most was that the staff sang to everyone whose birthday it was. We were not served by one waiter only, we had multiple and this we found nice. One would take our order and check in with us (obinna) and others would bring the food. As we have certain dietary restrictions we had some questions about the food which the staff answered directly. The waiter neon and assistant prudence cleared a lot of stuff up for us. These guys definitely made our stay a super great experience. The guy at the staff named myron was also great. These guys stay at sea for months and still manage to stay super friendly. Read Less

Did you explore your departure city before the your cruise? Yes we did! We took the Big Bus Tours of Miami and had great tour guides of all the routes! Enjoyed the Wynwood Walls, South Beach, Little Havana absolutely all of it! We got on and off the buses to walk and explore it was really a great way to see and enjoy the city. Did the embarkation and disembarkation go smoothly? I believe they should review the process and make serious changes to make this a smoother process. It was very confusing. What should others know: First let's be positive! The people (other cruisers) and the activities that we attended were FANTASTIC!!! Now, lets talk about the rest! Keep in mind this was a 3 day cruise. Service: The crew members on this cruise were horrific! The best interaction I had on this cruise with a crew member was being shown how to get to my room, gym, and pool area on the ship (I am blind). The worst? you ask?...standing directly in front of crew member with my cane and juice in one hand, balancing a tray with breakfast in the other hand. Asking the server if he could get me silverware (I forgot) he told "they are right over there" I told him I understand that but I have no more hands, he turned and walked in the other direction. Conversation closed. In between....1) luggage was lost after about 4 hours of trying to find out where's the luggage. Was told by the room steward that "sometimes the luggage is left by the service desk" Finally decided to go down and check the service desk ourselves and THERE sitting in the hall with a LARGE nametag is the luggage, we retrieved the luggage and returned to our room. 2) Returned to room to shower for dinner (Captains Dinner) to find we had no towels. After several request and waiting and missing the Captains Dinner - we finally received towels. We were changed to the 8:30 seating by then we were starving. 3) My roommate is a smoker...asked crewmember could you please empty the over-filled ashtray, he took the ashtray emptied it and did not return it. He kept going! She had to get up and retrieve the ashtray herself. 4) Asked several crewmembers for a glass of ice (IT WAS HOT) at least 3 different servers, neither returned with the ice I was told to order a drink, not a drinker - sorry - went the cafeteria to get it myself. I could continue but you get the point. Dining: The food on this ship was somewhat edible in most cases it was either undercooked or seriously overcooked! with exception of the Hamburger Joint which was terrific, but hamburgers everyday is just not practical. You will not starve, but you will not be satisfied either. Did you travel with children? No Would you go again? Absolutely! I love cruising! Would I take another Carnival Cruise? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Presentation and Representation matters. They blew it on both counts. I would not recommend Carnival Cruise to anyone. Read Less

We won a "free" cruise trip through a raffle and booked our first cruise with Carnival Fantasy to the Bahamas. Our trip set sail Friday and returned monday. Overall we had a good experience as first time cruisers. No sea sickness, great hospitality service of the staff of Carnival, plenty of activities to do. Only downfall was the comfort of the beds (but that's understandable since we are on a ship) and some of the patrons were young and rowdy. If Carnival has another trip/line that caters to an older crowd, it'd be a perfect 5/5. Overall though very pleased with our first cruise. Food was good and plenty of selection. The cabins were clean and more space than expected. Bahamas was wonderful and it was great that our trip included staying at the port over night so no worries about rushing back to the boat. I would definitely recommend. Read Less

As a first time cruiser, I had an amazing time. Embarkation was smooth and easy. Registering online helped a lot. There was a lot of traffic in the Port of Miami, but not many signs giving you directions, so plan to loop in a few circles. The food was great. The buffet breakfast and lunch was great. There was also the opportunity to make your own burrito. The last dinner night, the options were not too different and some of our food was overcooked. The apple pie was not good. Tasted like old apples and parts of it was not even warm. There was only one pool on the boat, very disappointing. The pool was the size of a small bedroom literally comfortable for about 12 people to be in. Because the pools were always overcrowded I took advantage of the mini water slides. Although it was mostly children that went down, it was still fun( and I am 25 yrs old). Overall: For a first time cruiser or one that is not too difficult to please this was a great experience Read Less

This was our first experience and it was perfect. The service is outstanding. Thanks to Mary from the Guest Service, Claudia from the Room Service and Dewi from the housekeeping service. We went to Nassau, Bahamas and to Half Moon Cay( These is so beautiful I can't explain). As a part of the excursions we went to Private Island. The cabin is cozy . The dining is delicious, we liked better the Lido Buffet, but the dining room is delicious also. We enjoyed the captain's night. The dining was extremely amazing and the service is awesome and the buffet is good as well, a lot of diversity. Also the burger station near the pool was great. The water park even though is small is a lot of fun. In general thanks to the whole crew of the ship for a wonderful experience. Tip: The cabins near the front of the ship you get feel more the movement of the ship. Read Less

I chose this cruise because of the price during the time of booking and becasue of the water slides which I knew my 6 year old would enjoy . Cons: It is a small ship outdated. The pool is very tiny and over crowded, its salt water and looked disgustedly murky . I was surprised this was the only pool there is not even a kiddie pool at all ! The entertainment was dull, wish they would invest more on the entertainment portion and the animation team. It took about 3 hours to get the luggage, it was the first time on a cruise for me, so next time I will just take it with me in embarkation. Demarkation was a little chaotic at first, but we were out of the ship by 9:45 AM. PROS : The staff was very friendly and helpful. the room was cleaned, and the buffet food was average. The alcoholic beverages were priced decently. Half moon cay was beautiful and calm, would definitely like to go back again, its a very kid friendly Island with a mini water park with fun slides.. Camp carnival is a PLUS for kids ages 2 and up. TIP: DO NOT TAKE the water ferry ride in the Bahamas to go to Cable Beach , it is very far from where the ferry drops to off !, take a taxi instead and you don't have to walk. I would cruise with Carnival again, but NOT on the Fantasy. Read Less

After reading some negative reviews of Carnival, I wasn't sure what to expect. I would have to nit pick to find fault with them. The service was great. The food was excellent. There were times that I observed guests asking for things out of the ordinary where I thought the staff could have had an attitude, but they didn't. The Fantasy may be an older ship, but there wasn't anything wrong with our room or other areas. Would definitely cruise with Carnival again. We didn't do any shows because we were babysitting our grandkids while their parents attended the comedy shows. They said they were very good. It was raining in Nassau the day we were there, so we didn't shop that much. We did snorkel some on Junanoo Beach and that was nice, but not great. The room was always clean. It would have been nice to have internet included (or even an intranet). If not, it would be nice to have a better way of communicating with friends. We were part of a large group and this was a problem at times. Read Less

A weekend cruise out of Miami is not exactly known as the best type of cruising, especially on an older ship like the Fantasy, but given the price and the fun/relaxation I had it was well worth it. The Fantasy shows its age, but at the same time it reminds me of being a kid and taking cruises in the 1990s and early 2000s. You feel like you are on a boat, its not just some massive hotel and shopping mall. I enjoyed the nostalgia the ship had to offer from the dinner room to the neon lights. Also, given the type of cruise and cost we knew service would not be great, and honestly, it was not. Dinner service at the anytime restaurant was rushed much of the time, and inattentive. The waiters are not terrible, but they are not great either. Just ok. The food, was good. I typically enjoyed the appetizers more than the main courses. Lunch food and breakfast food was also good, especially the burgers, they really hit something there with the burgers, they are really really good. The water slide was actually pretty fun, along with the typical shuffle board and small mini-putt-putt course. The pool is small, 1990s small, and on a hot day at sea no where near as large as it needs to be. The casino is good as well. I did not see any of the shows, but other entertainment options were good along with the comedy shows. Nassau as a port of call is an easy port to see and handle. My best suggestion is to wake up early and walk around downtown a little then take the ferry to Paradise Island and check out the beach. Its a great beach with great water. The Atlantis Package is very very expensive and not worth it IMO for the cost. Though you could always walk around the public areas of Atlantis such as the Casino. In general, if you are an experienced cruiser you should know what the type of crowd and cruise a weekend Miami cruise on an older ship gets you. Its more of a party atmosphere, lots of young people, lots of locals along with many first time cruisers testing the waters. Service is not top notch from the top down, but it was not terrible. Just understand this is not a 7 night Europe cruise or a Celebrity ship, or a monster ship with 20 shops, 10 bars, and two stages. The Fantasy is for someone that wants to know they are on a ship, and enjoy the simple things in cruising. I had an interior cabin, it was simple, but comfortable. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we were looking for a quick and inexpensive family trip over the July 4th weekend and also so no one had to take time off work. We stayed in oceanview cabins. We were a group of 10, with three children ages 12, 7 and 8. 1. Check-in Went well. You are given a group color after check-in. When your group is called, you get to board the ship. That went fine. 2. First impression Ship is small and outdated. Cabins need updated plumbing and better beds (hard) and clean windows. We were able to eat as soon as we boarded. 3. Dining Guy's Burgers was a highlight. Dining room food was cold most of the time and waits were a bit long for anytime dining. Pizza was good and available 24 hours. There was a midnight buffet that was good. 4. Entertainment Best part for the kids , the waterworks in the back. Plenty of space to sit and watch them play. The children's/teen lounges were good but if you left your kids there, they never left to go to the pool or slides or eat. The older kids went for a snack but not the younger kids? Comedy was good, but room was too small and hard dining room chairs not like a lounge and it filled up quickly. Lots of people standing. 5. Overall Getting on easy, getting off not organized. Only stop was Nassau which was nice. If you want to visit Atlantis on the $100 a day pass you have to book way in advance on Carnival, it sells out fast or go in person on the day you dock. By the way, a local told us that you could take cab to the beach and enjoy the same beach that the Atlantis is on just a little further down. However, an umbrella and chairs will cost you about $20 umbrella and $10 a chair. Read Less

I cruise at least once a year on carnival - - I do enjoy cruising with them on any ship. The cruise ship was nice and clean. I totally hate the pool and hot tubs - - to many people. It was my fault I choose a cruise when school was out because it was swarmed with kids. I do feel the cruise line should choose a time that is just for adults because the kids never get out of the pool. The negatives about the cruise is that I only saw my room server one time in 4 days. Also, he came in the room while I was in my birthday suit. He knocked but I didn't answer on purpose because it was a group cruise and I needed a moment to myself - - when I didn't answer he came in and saw all the goods. I was a bit upset but I guess he was just trying to do his job. Maybe the ship needs to utilize the "busy" door tag forreal. There were also less waitors to get drinks. I found myself always asking where was the waitor - - there wasn't enough to handle the ship passengers in my opinion. The workers seemed to be stressed out. They were nice but exerted no additional energy...except for the burger guys. They were cracking jokes and making us laugh. I think the workers are being overworked. They were so busy, they never took a moment to look up and even hold a conversation. Their attitudes were rush rush...plus the weather was bad and we were unable to go to the Bay Island and had to stay on the ship which drove me crazy. The comedy show was bad each night and that is always the highlight of the cruise for me. The entertainment wasn't as exciting as I have experienced in the pain...there was less band performances. I also enjoyed the food - - they had lamb, turkey, ham that was pretty good. Read Less

From beginning to end everything was well orchestrated, but at an easy pace. Dining choices were superb and the relaxed meal times were very appreciated. The quality of the food and service rivaled any 5 star restaurant. The entertainment was varied and enjoyable. Staff worked hard to accommodate everyone's needs and wants with quick, friendly responses. We will return again and again, because this was an absolutely fabulous experience! It can be intimidating if you have never cruised before, but the staff seems to anticipate your needs and answers every question from the novice cruiser to the well-seasoned voyager. If you are new to this experience, as I was, please do yourself a BIG favor and choose this ship, it will truly amaze you. Read Less

We took a cruise on the Carnival Fantasy for a family reunion. The length of the cruise for perfect for first time cruisers. The ship is older and you tell by the decor. The cabins are okay, the rooms could have been cleaner, I could see little hand prints all over the walls. There is no soundproofing in the cabins as noted around 3:00 in the morning when my neighbor decided to have a sex marathon. The lido for dining was crowded and one of my family members found a long hair in her sandwich, she reported it to the chefs and they promised her a gift, but she never received it. The Jubilee is hidden, a little hard to get to, but once your there, the entertainment was nice and the dining experience was great. Our waiter Manik was awesome, very attentive. The comedy shows were great and the karaoke was definitely worth the trip. Overall service was average, I'm use to the service I receive on Royal Caribbean cruise line. The port was okay, I've been to Bahamas about 5 times and the merchants are becoming more aggressive, if I go again, I think that I will skip the port and hang out on the ship. One nice thing I experienced on this ship was Guy Fieri burgers, Delicious! Read Less

Not sure how 2000ish people are expected to use the pool. Food in dining room good. Ship dated but clean. Pizza took long to make they could not keep up with demand but it was tasty. Guy Burgers only offered beef very disappointing as I do not eat beef. They had advertised this is a key restaurant. Really there is the Burgers, Buffet and Dining room. That is all. Not many kid friendly foods. My kids ate pizza only for 3 days. No fries, except if you went to burger bar outside, no macncheese at all, no cookies except once. Bingo was fun. I would definately pick a ship with more food choices and more than 1 tiny pool in future. Read Less

I liked the short itinerary, not too long nor too short for our first time sailing without the kids. We liked the idea of a long day at Nassau and going in June would ensure nice, warm weather. We found embarkation to be a breeze! We just brought carry on luggae so we had no added stress of waiting for our bags to be delivered to our room. We had lunch at the lido buffet and although it was crowded it wasn't too bad. We got drinks right away at the Rum Frog bar! We took a chance and headed down to our room and it was clean and ready! The cruise was the perfect blend of crowds and activities and lots of opportunities to find quiet places to view the ocean. We got the Cheers program which I highly recommend! It was nice to have several drinks without freaking out over the cost. The service we received was fast and friiendly but I did tip $1 extra each time. The comedy show was raunchy but hilarious. The food was varied and althouugh the portiomns were dainty, they filled you up anyway. I especially loved the scallops and risotto, the lido deck pizza and the warm melting chocolate cake. The fruit at breaakfast was also super fresh! My only letdown was they no longer leave little chocolates by your anima; towels at turn down each night. Guess too many peopel can't eat chocolate or something? Overall I would go again but I might upgrade from an ocean view room to a balcony. Our wimndow was a bit frimey so the view was blurry. This was our second cruise and first on Carnival. I was a little reluctant to book because of this ship being the oldest in the fleet. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by the look and feel of this fantastic ship hence the name Fantasy. I was so proud of our ship as it sat there off the beach at Half Moon Cay. It reminded me of a classic car you would be proud to own. We loved every minute of our time on board. We booked a suite so we were able to get on board early and straight to the Lido deck for lunch. Our luggage was there shortly after lunch and I wish you could have seen the look on my wife's face when I opened the door. We loved our suite and would book again for the VIP perks. My son wanted to go to Atlantis, after doing a price out, it was cheaper to go on a 3-day quickie cruise and get a day pass at Atlantis. We flew to FLL and spent the night. I used SAS transportation to get to the cruise port. They were great, but I later found out my hotel would have taken us for 1/4 of the price. Not sure how I missed that, that was on me. Embarkation was easy. We walked in, walked right up to a counter, waited about 45 minutes (we had early check in), and walked right on the ship at about noon. It was so easy it didn't feel right. Right away it was obvious this was an older ship. From the outside to the inside. The decor, and rust on the outside windows wasn't overly bothersome for me. What really showed was the size of the ship in comparison to some others I have been on. The ship was full, and in the restaurant (buffet) area it really showed. Not as many icecream stations, so always a line or icecream out of service, pretty significant lines at the buffet compared to other ships. Not really a complaint, I had nowhere to go, it is just noticeably different for a smaller ship how many people are on the ship. That being said I never had a problem finding a place to sit and eventually got an icecream cone. The cruise itself didn't seem to have as many activities, but there was the day we left, a day at Nassau and a Sea Day, so that is to be expected. Not sure how to put this and not get jumped on, but for the first time on a cruise I felt like the people on the cruise were different. Not sure if it was because of where it was out of or because it was a 3-day, but I saw some things that just bothered me. The lady who came to the dining room in her nightgown, it was clearly a nightgown. The grown man who was at the buffet with no shirt, the mostly grown kids just cutting in line. I just felt like this cruise had more disrespectful people than I have ever seen before. Not just isolated incidents, but the major vibe. :( I went to one comedy show. I was not a fan of the comedian. I think I saw him on another Carnvial ship. He is african-american, and his entire show is just beating down different races --- and not even being funny while doing it. Once I realized who he was I got up and left. I don't recall his name. I went to the Hasbro Game Show, it was exactly like the previous one I went to, even the questions to get on the show were the same. Then the Simon game wasn't working so I left that too. The one show I did enjoy on the ship was the show Brits. It had some great music, and moved pretty fast. I heard one person say they felt like it was only 15 minutes. It was 45 minutes. The food on the ship was okay. Guy's Burgers were good of course, and the pizza was good. I just find the dining room food to not be as good as I remember from my first cruise. I enjoyed Sea Day Brunch. I always get the tomato soup and the spicy chicken. Hen Ala Divola or something like that. I also love the puffy bread they have. The weather was amazing. I never felt the boat move. My last couple cruises have put me to sleep very early swaying. We had an ocean view room. While I am not sure I would do it for the ocean view again, I felt like the room had more space than an inside cabin. Since our whole trip was about going to Atlantis I was on edge. I had read numerous reviews that if it rained they closed the waterpark and never reopened. We took a taxi for $4 per person to Atlantis and it dropped us at the Coral Towers, about a 1.5 mile walk to the waterpark. When we got to the locker rental I realized I lost my pouch with my credit card, state IDs, and ship IDs. I only had it out when we checked in. Then it started pouring. My son took off for the rides. I went to look for my ID. After walking all they way back to the desk I checked in at, I called security. They had the pouch all intact. Thank goodness. By the time I got back the sun was shining and nothing was ever shut down. We had a great time at Atlantis. Word of caution though, the "lazy river" is not a lazy river. It is a Roaring Rapids. I fell off my tube, about drown, and was drug along the bottom about 30 feet. I went to get bandaged up and the first aid gave me two large bandaids which didn't cover my wound ... and were not waterproof they warned. Maybe I should have heeded the warning and got out of the water, but I paid too much. As I type, I have a severe infection on my arm and have just now in the last couple days been able to use my arm. All signs indicate I won't lose my arm at this point but it was a painful time. I am glad we chose to do Atlantis as a 1-day I think my son would have gotten bored with the same rides if we were there for 4 days. Now we can say we have been there, done that. Overall, it was a vacation and the ocean was so relaxing. That being said I would never book this particular cruise again. We have another 3 day out of California for Thanksgiving if I don't decide to cancel. 3-days may not be my thing. Read Less

I was a first time cruiser and decided on Carnival because it had good value. It's an older ship but for the most part didn't hinder me and my husband's experience. We had a great time. I also get motion sickness easily but surprisingly was fine with a dramamine and some wrist bands I wore during the trip. The casino was fun, but small. I would suggest playing roulette to keep your money longer. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub areas. These areas were rather small to fit all the guests on the ship. Food was good, especially enjoyed the made to order omelets. Guy Fieri's burger bar was okay, a bit greasy. Service for our dining room experience was excellent and surprisingly the food was pretty good. You could have several desserts and more than one entree if you wanted. I tried out different massages. The bamboo massage was a different experience and not worth the value. I felt, Rachel, the masseuse was in a rush during my service. I recommend going with the regular deep tissue massage. Overall, the experience was great and would recommend the cruise to others. I'm excited to try other Carnival ships since I've heard they have more modern amenities. Read Less
