This was the fourth NCL cruise for my wife and me, and our first on Dawn. Overall, the cruise was good, but not our best NCL experience. Embarkation was smooth and our mid-ship balcony cabin was ready by 1:00 pm. As noted below, the cabin was quite nice and clean. We were very satisfied with the cabin. We chose to dine in the Garden Cafe rather than the main dining room or specialty restaurants. The food was average; nothing bad, nothing outstanding. The menu at Cagney's looked very good, but we did not have an opportunity to try it. The open deck space was good, and we were able to find areas of relative privacy to relax and enjoy watching the ocean go by. We were, however, disappointed in two things: First, some of the staff were less engaging and responsive than our prior experiences. Our cabin attendant was very friendly, but other staff members seemed annoyed by questions. Second, I expected the casino area to smell of cigarette smoke; but, the smell permeated most of the open, non-smoking areas on decks 6 and 7 where trivia and other activities were held. We were traveling with another couple and all noticed the strong smell of cigarette smoke immediately upon boarding the ship on deck 7. I am a non-smoker, but not an anti-smoker. If others choose to smoke, that's fine with me. I was just surprised at how strong the smell of cigarette smoke was in non-smoking areas of the ship. In summary, I would say this about Dawn: We would not specifically target this ship for another cruise; however, If we found an itinerary that we liked, we would sail on Dawn again. Read Less

This was the first and last time I will ever vacation in a Norwigen Cruiseline again. The reason why we weren’t pleased with this cruiseline because they nickel and dime for everything. We had the “Ultimate Driking Package” however we still had to pay extra if we wanted a freshly squeezed fruit juice or a specialty coffee such as a capachino. With Carnival there drinking package covers everything. Also I had signed up for a parasailing excursion and when I get the tickets for all my excursions they send me a letter telling me that the parasailing excursion was canceled for undisclosed reasons and that they will credit my account for what I payed for. Also weren’t to satisfied with the dinning restaurants. Unless you were at one of the special restaurants where you had to pay extra, all there restaurants had the same menu every day. My wife and I felt there was no variety. I will say the onboard performances were quite entertaining. However, even though the staff was friendly and professional, after this vacation my wife and I decided going forward we will only vacation on Carnival Cruise Line because we’ve had the best experiences and no complaints. This was to be a nice little relaxing 4 night cruise for birthday. As a seasoned cruiser (34) I see changes. Freestyle as gone too far. Tee shirts and shorts allowed in dining room at dinner, some were clean, a little over the top. No formal nights. No welcome back latitudes members, no cocktail party with captain and senior officer's. Kids run big promotions and change "rules" on the cuff. Free cruise raffles was supposed to be at 5pm on Key West port. You had to be present to win. I came back to ship as not to miss that 5pm in stone final deadline. 5pm came and went. Assistant cruise director decided to change drawing time till after we were forced to wait 2 bingo games. Now 5:45 changes drawing till they sell another batch of their scratch off games. After all those folks filled oit their little red tickets seperated and put into raffle drum we were ready for a free cruise drawing. Woops the door on the drum wont stay closed. Duck Tape!! Poolside parties were poorly attended No towel animals. No latitude perks. Can of soda $3.75. Anywhere on ship or in your room Beer starts at $6.75 Cocktails start at 9.75 Tips $15.pp per day. I’d like to start by saying the overall cruise experience with NCL was a good one. The stateroom accommodations were very nice. Our cabin steward was dedicated & pleasant. The way NCL upgraded the ship was nice, too. We liked the way the vessel was laid out. The restaurants were all easy to find, with the exception of the Italian restaurant tucked away in the stern of the ship. We took all our meals onboard except for one day when we had lunch at a restaurant ashore. The food on the ship was very good with the exception of the Asian restaurant. The seafood soup there was inedible and the remaining courses we had there were below average. However, I must say the hostess at the Asian restaurant was accommodating. We also feel the overall variety of food NCL offered on the ship was great. There was lots to choose from. The entertainment onboard seemed to be hit or miss. The dancers were good. The choreography was also good but I’m sorry to say that some of the singers were poor. Our NCL cruise director may be good at her job but I’m afraid she doesn’t have a very good voice. The bands we heard were also good. The brass band was very good. The man & woman trapeze act was fabulous! Again, overall the entertainment was both good & not so good. Great Stirrup Cay was absolutely beautiful. It made for a perfect day. I thought the fact that NCL didn’t have a dock to accommodate the ship & to aid in getting passengers on & off the island was going to be a major inconvenience but it wasn’t. The ferry shuttle was fine. The island was pristine. Personally, this beach day was the highlight of my trip. I’m sorry to say the most disappointing part of the cruise was disembarking on the last day. I understand NCL reserves the right to run a few minutes ahead of schedule or behind schedule as they see fit while disembarking passengers. I know it’s a huge undertaking to get everyone off the ship & to turn the vessel around. However, what we experienced the last day was disturbing. The scheduled time for us to disembark was 9:40am to 10:am. Personally, my girlfriend & I were running about 10 minutes ahead of schedule to disembark. At the same time NCL was running about a half hour ahead of schedule disembarking passengers. We had eaten, we were packed & we were dressing to disembark, when at 9:25am a knock came at our cabin door. We yelled through the door for the individual knocking to wait but in literally two seconds the stateroom door was unlocked & opened from the outside. An officer dressed in white appeared in the threshold of our cabin shouting, “You must leave the ship!” Again, my girlfriend & I were not dressed. How rude?! It was so embarrassing. I was angered. The whole ordeal just stressed us out. Frankly, we cruised with NCL to unplug & to un-stress. Instead it seemed like we ended up disembarking with more stress than we initially boarded with. I’m still shaking my head. I’ve cruised with Disney & I don’t believe Disney would ever, EVER do anything like this! Again, I know all cruise lines need to keep a tight schedule when disembarking passengers & turning vessels around. However, for NCL to apply this much pressure is to the detriment of the their guests. I also believe the officer at our door didn’t just decide to be this intrusive on her own. She was more than likely instructed by upper management to clear out the ship. Regardless, NCL needs to understand they simply cannot do this to their guests and think it’s ok because it’s just simply, Not ok. So, all-in-all we had a good cruise but I really don’t know if we’ll be coming back to NCL after being embarrassed & chased off the ship. And finally, if there are free-safe modes of transportation available at any NCL ports of call there should be no reason why NCL wouldn’t want to advertise that. NCL brochures & the NCL website are full of information about shore excursions & paid modes of transportation. NCL needs to advertise all major transportation options available at their ports of call, both free & paid options & allow passengers to choose. Read Less

I usually start with the good on my reviews and I will again. The service on the Dawn was exemplary. Waiters (most of them, notably in the specialty restaurants), cabin steward, butler and concierge, even guest services exceeded expectations. The other good, food in the specialty restaurants. We had amazing meals in both La Cucina. That's about where the good stuff stops though. Going to stick with the food here a minute. MDR food was ok, but not amazing. Too much salt, not enough other flavor. But the buffet, horrendous. Seems to be a common complaint on here, and they're all right. I sampled a bunch of items, couldn't taste much of anything in any of them. Even dishes that looked like they should be flavorful tasted...brown. Thankfully we only ate there once for lunch. Entertainment was another big gripe. None of the big production shows even remotely interested us. The music in the bars was hit and miss. The guitarist was decent, the piano singer... lets not go there. Only act we liked was the duet group Azalea. A constant problem in the venues we were in was the volume level for the space. Gatsby's was too loud, the Atrium was too quiet. On the daytime activity side, I am usually a trivia guy, but I had a hard time having fun with it. Both trivia people were very low energy and the questions were hyper specific. For example, on my previous cruise, the general knowledge trivia winners usually had around 15/20 right, on Dawn, it was around 10. None of the other activities even got my attention as pretty much all of the rest were athletic in some form. Read Less

I'll start off with the disclaimer that I am comparing this to all of our previous family cruises in non-suite staterooms. We were fortunate, however, to get into the family suite for a reasonable price by booking early. With that said, our 4 night adventure on Mariner of the Seas was outstanding. This was my first time on Mariner of the Seas, but I have been on other Voyager class ships before. I think these ships are the perfect size to offer a variety of things to do without feeling crowded or rushed. Fortunately, the folks at RCI coupled that with a nice mix of entertainment and activities that were aptly timed to blend with the itinerary. We had a couple opportunities for laser tag and it was a blast. We had time for the Flowrider and water slides without lines that were discouraging. We had time for shows, movies in the theater, movies on the pool deck, sun time, and more without feeling rushed! We got to experience a lot of what the ship and ports of call had to offer without compromising much needed relaxation time in between. If you have read any of my previous reviews, you know that I have somewhat high expectations when it comes to service. This cruise defined what great service is. Yes, the room was kept clean and drinks were served promptly and courteously. There was never really a long wait for anything. I could go on and on, but I would rather recognize two specific individuals that went above and beyond to ensure everyone in our party knew that they were valued guests on board Mariner of the Seas. Sam, our waiter in the Suite Lounge, got to know our names and drinks on the first day. After that, Sam had drinks in our hand within minutes of walking in. This includes the eight year olds' Shirley Temples with extra cherries! In addition to making sure that we had everything before we knew we wanted it, Sam was a great conversationalist. In the main dining room, we were greeted every night by head waiter Jean Paul. He made sure that the kids enjoyed themselves by offering special treats for whoever finished dinner. This was nice in itself, but he really stood out when we encountered him in the Windjammer while having breakfast. Jean Paul took the time to show a first time cruiser how to get a cooked-to-order omelette. I mean, he literally walked her through the process. Could it have been figured out? Sure, but he insisted on helping. Mariner of the Seas packed a medley of entertainment and activities into this four night cruise, delivered with exemplary service in an impeccably clean and easy to navigate ship. Read Less

the worst company to deal with. They don't deliver what was promised when the reservation was made, you step on the ship, look at your cabin, and feel very disappointed. so, you walk to the customer service to find a loooooooong line of disappointed customers, stand there for a couple of hours and never get anything resolved. Then you on board for few days continue with measurable experience. I would not recommend Royal for travelers, why would you want to pay your money and spend your vacation time with this company if there are others that offer better experience? They promise staff for kids, for instance the virtual reality trampoline. My kids were so excited to experience it, guess what: it was NOT OPEN the all time we were there. Kids were disappointed. There were no shows for kids, NONE. They have 2 ice cream machines, one of them was broken, and always line to get ice cream, that was served melty. They had one slide for kids, and line always was long to get on it. The all trip was a complete disappointment to all of us. They advertise the new renovations they've done to the ship, I wonder what was it before? OH, ONE MORE THING THE FITNESS CENTER DIDN'T OPEN TILL 9 OCLOCK!!!!!!! SO STUPID, REALLY. There was kids sail free promotion going on with Royal Caribbean Cruise and this was perfect sailing for our group. This was our first cruise and wanted to go on short cruise. We were 28 passengers in group including kids. Ship is recently rebuild so interior is modern and rooms are spacious. We were all had interior rooms but still found spacious enough even 4 of us (2 + 2). Staff were awesome and they arranged welcome gestures in form of making animal from napkins. My kids love that. Dinning facility was outstanding. This was our first cruise so we were quite worried about food and our special dietary requirement but they have taken care of this very well. They arranged our big group very easily. There were so many options that we never felt short of option. From 24X7 Pizza to special dinner all were perfectly arranged for all needs. We loved theater act as well magic show. Kids loved movies on deck at pools. Shore excursion are little costly compare to direct purchase but still they have enough option, if you want to use their services. Read Less

We will make another reservation in the near future! The food was excellent! We booked three excursions . The staff was very helpful to helping us on and off the ship. We were invited to the Captain’s cocktail party. We had a wonderful time and made amazing friends. The entertainment was so much fun. We tried to do as many of the shows as we could. Our butler and concierge were absolutely wonderful! They took care of any and everything we could have needed. We rented the villa on the private island. It was amazing, the food, the staff and the villa were perfect. We snorkeled and just relaxed doing anything we wanted. This was our first cruise and definitely not our last. Read Less

This was our first Norwegian Cruise and we have a great time. The ship was refurbished and nice. Cabins still need some minor tweaks but overall it was a great experience. This cruise had an unlimited drinks option which made this a great value. I will certainly cruise Norwegian again very soon. Also, I was not sure how i would feel about the freestyle cruising option but it worked perfectly for travelers like our family. We like the option to do and move at our own schedule. I can't wait to take my kids on a Norwegian cruise to see how much they enjoy it as well. The service was great by the staff on board the ship as well especially in the dining halls. We had great experiences in all the dining facilities. We did not book any shore excursions but we did go ashore and do things at our own pace. I like that option as well. Read Less

The ship was clean, lots of areas to sit and take in some great people watching. Service was good to excellent. It seemed that some of the bar servers where less than thrilled to be there. But drinks were still great we never went thirsty. The hand washing station in the Windjammer is smart, loved the guitar player singing Wash your hands, was entertaining. Interior cabin on deck 7 aft, standard room great location. Entertainment was good, Barnacle and Barrel for live Acoustic player, piano playing fun at the Schooner Bar, comedy, pool music, promenade singers also. Food was good, Chops excellent service and dinner., desserts were enjoyed. Wings at Playmakers where very good not to hot but worth the up-charge. We would travel again on this ship, but prefer the Oasis Class and 7 day itinerary. Read Less

My first time taking a cruise and they made it so easy and smooth thru the whole process. The crew were extremely friendly and always someone around to ask questions or assist in anyway. It took us a while to figure out the routine and what was included in our package and what was not but crew were very good about guiding us to the activities. A daily schedule is handed out every morning with a list of times for each event and what is planned for that day if you want to participate. Alcohol included in this trip made it all worth while :) I thought about upgrading to the premium beverage package but honestly its not needed on this boat. The entertainment and the shows they put on are amazing....I recommend seeing a few while on the ship. The host of the games is hilarious. I chose this cruise because it was something I always wanted to experience and so I took my 9 yr old grandson during Spring break from school. We love the Disney Parks and wanted to try to cruise. My husband, 23 yr old son, my grandson and myself were in stateroom 7536. My brother, sis in law and 18 yr old nephew were in 7520. We had a nice time all in all. There was a mishap on first night dinner in AP. We ordered steaks and my bro got a one inch piece of metal in his. He was chewing and after feeling it, he spit it out - thank goodness. The wait staff, chef and head waiter were very apologetic and I felt bad for the chef. He looked so upset and puzzled. It was a piece of metal from a wire brush that would be used to clean a grill. This could have ruined entire cruise if it had been swallowed. Like I said, they were very upset that this happened and I hope they do whatever they need to do to ensure this never happens again. Swallowing that could be fatal. At the very least would require surgery. We received Magical Memories certificates for our troubles. The ports were fine. Key West was nice. Nassau - been there, done that. Unless your doing a day at Atlantis, might be best to stay on the ship. Castaway Cay, was beautiful. The weather was great. The shows were awesome. Saw every one of them. They released END GAME on the ship and that was so fun. Disney details were the best. We enjoyed some late night trivia and juggling entertainment. The food was okay but nothing over the top. We didn't do Palo. We were very disappointed that Lumiere's did not offer any entertainment for dinner. AP and the Tangled restaurants did have lovely entertainment, but not Lumiere's. It was our last night's restaurant so we looked forward to some fun, but there was none to be had. The wait staff said they removed the Beauty and the Beast entertainment because it was frightening to the little ones. This is Disney and they could have done something else rather than nothing. So yeah that was disappointing. Would I do another Disney Cruise, possibly but not 100% yet. Read Less

We selected this cruise as it suited our holiday dates. It was just after the Easter holiday weekend. It was a cruise to the Bahamas which has been a dream destination for us and we particularly liked that it was 4 days only as we were first time cruisers with our 3 children of varying ages and we had experience of motion sickness with our kids and myself and were wary of too long a stay on cruise. It was our first time in Miami and we landed at midnight at Miami international. I can highly recommend late arrivals book into Miami int Airport hotel. It made our arrival pleasant and breezy. After breakfast that am we ubered to the port to check in and leave our baggage with the intent of exploring the city. Check in was amazing. Took 10 minutes chatting to and dropping bags with porter an extremely efficient and enthusiastic gent who just took control told us not to worry and guided us to go in and finalise our check in. This was good advice and took 5 minutes! Maybe lucky maybe good timing again super efficient and smiling experience. Staff was wonderful. The ambience and feel of that check in area and process gave us confidence that we did the right thing. As we were leaving a staff member when hearing we wanted to explore Miami recommended we head to South Beach which we did and loved it! Oceans 10 and their fantastic cocktails and service greeted us there before we headed to ship. We had requested a family suite and balcony facing and it wasn't available so we had booked 2 x inside cabins for our family of 5. The cabins the housekeeping... The dining facility and service and quality of offering was 5 star. The choices fantastic for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Nothing is too big for staff. They arranged on request a delicious and beautiful birthday cake for my son. They even made me jalepeno omelette at breakfast. The only request I had for them was to arrange for fresh green chilli that suits heat loving palettes so some peri peri flavors. The activities and on board entertainment was fantastic and covered most preferences. The only advice I would give them is that they mustn't allow guests to hog and pre book all activities during induction time on day 1 and have insufficient room to accomodate all guests. We missed out on laser tag despite much effort to get in as every slot was pre-booked but there isn't a service to reach out or call people on a waiting list if there are no shows. The ship itself was wonderful. Large spacious and inviting. I was surprised to learn on the am we were departing that there had been approx 1300 children on board. I can't say I heard or saw them all to be honest. My kids aged 6, 10 and 13 had a wonderful time. Their needs were met, they threw themselves into whatever was free and available on board and they had fun and got to enjoy on board and off ship excursions. The food met their expectations. Cafe promenade was a huge hit as was Ben and Jerry. They also loved the adult like family dining experience in dining hall 3...and asked everyday for window seating being fortunate to finally experience this on our last night and morning before we disembarked. We had to keep reminding ourselves we were on a ship... We felt no motion.... Brilliant ship... And took none of the stash of motion sickness meds I had taken with us. A beautiful floating resort feel. So the lesson I have learned through this experience is book a large modern ship if you suffer from motion sickness. Great technology... Good ship stabilizers and good navigation means a better cruise experience. Cocacay was an amazing day. Cocktails, lunch and activities were fantastic. I do think the shuttle service on shore at cococay should be complimentary to all. I must say though that many helped me get across the island throughout the day because I stopped them or flagged them and asked. Disembarkation was good. But getting out of the port and on our way was painstaking and slow. Too many people, all taking uber or lyft... Waiting long periods for cars that were slow in coming through. This was frustrating for many including us. Some car hire companies take advantage of unsuspecting customers and overbook their vehicles and we arrived at our car hire company in downtown Miami to chaos. Long lines. 1 or 2 staff members. And insufficient cars. Or different types to what was booked available. Their sad excuse.. It's after Easter holidays. I think it's the norm - so my advice to traveller's with tight itineraries like us... (We missed our planned day at space Kennedy Centre as a result of this inefficiency.) is to rather book car hire a little further out vs closest to port...you may get better service.. Less queuing and get what you booked on time. In a nutshell royal carribean was amazing. I felt like we had a 5 star plus experience with excellent care and customer service. I would highly recommend any family with varying aged kids to go on this cruise if looking for a suitable offering. We loved it and can't wait to plan our next family cruise on a Large cruise liner. This was not my first cruise, but it was my first cruise on NCL. It will also be my last. I will start with what was good about the cruise. The breakfast and dinner was very good. We did not eat in the buffet. We ate breakfast at Savor or Taste each morning and for dinner ate there as well or at the Tropicana. Lunch in the buffet was gross. Our room was also a good size. We were in a mid ship balcony. I can not speak for the other rooms. Now for what was disappointing, the organization, entertainment, and communication was atrocious. Organization: If you never traveled on NCL you wouldn’t know you had to make reservations for everything including dinner and entertainment. When we arrived we did not know that and when we found out everything was already booked. However, we would show up to shows and they would be empty. The whole reservation thing just makes first time travelers not think they can participate in shows. They would do nightly activity in the Atrium will no room for anyone to sit and watch. The time management on the ship was so off. Things that were scheduled on the daily sheet would just not happen. We went to a class at the gym and no instructor showed up to teach it. We would go to do trivia and it would have already started, even though we were on time. We ordered room service for the morning. On the sheet they give you times to have it delivered we put between 7:30 and 8:00 it showed up at 6:45 and woke us up. The last day we put it for 7:00-7:30 and it just never showed up, and no one answered when we called. The worst organization was at Great Stirrup Cay, we arrived and they never made an announcement for tenders to depart. We happened to walk downstairs and see the crew putting people in line based on the tender number. We were tender group 1. They out on line then brought us into the theater where we waited over an hour to leave. While we waited they told us we had to be back by 4:30 even though the schedule said 5:30 and when I asked why it changed they said they had to get everyone back on time. So in the end they were 2 hours late to get us to the island and then made it seem like we had to be back an hour early. The last tender back was 6:15. When we were on the island they ran out of food and closed the bars early. Communication: Just like the issues at Great Stirrup Cay when not one announcement was made they did not make an announcement for departing Nassau. Everything was figure it out for yourselves. This came to leaving the ship on the last morning. I walked downstairs when I saw we had been at port early. It was 7:15 when I asked the crew what time we would be able to leave and they told us no earlier than 8:00. I went back to my room and not five minutes later did I hear someone scream, “freedom” outside our balcony (someone screaming freedom when they leave vacation should say it all about NCL). I looked and saw people leaving the ship. Again no announcement was made. This was the theme of the week. We had no clue one night was a dress in white night and another being a formal night. Seemed like only people who had the app and paid for the Wifi were informed about this information. Entertainment: The entertainment on the ship was lacking for a better word. They did one activity by the pool a day. Otherwise it was a DJ playing very boring music. When they did the activities by the pool, people were so into. We never saw the “entertainment team” by the pool during the say. They were doing indoor activities. When it is 80 degrees and sunny, I do not want to be inside. The dueling piano bar was not dueling pianos but just two people taking turns playing songs that were requested. Not once did they duel. The nightly adult activity was right in the middle of dinner time and was done in a packed atrium. When someone asked why they didn’t do more they said they had too many people and didn’t have the room for activities. Also a theme of the cruise. They could not accommodate the amount of people on board. All in all it was just a poorly done cruise. The worker seemed overworked and understaffed. They told us multiple times this was the last trip for the destinations and you could tell they were over being on the ship. We were late to leave, late to get to Florida, and late to leave for Great Stirrup Cay. The sheets never fit on our bed and I would wake up sleeping on the mattress with no sheet. NCL should be ashamed of the cruise they put people on. They need to work on the communication and organization. All we heard well week was people complaining about the lack of chairs to sit at (if you didn’t up at 7:00 am you didn’t get a chair in the sun by the pool), the lack of reservations available, and just the overall quality of the trip. NCL is not worth the price of the cruise. I could go on, but this is already very long. Read Less

This was a sister trip planned to celebrate our college graduation as we both completed our bachelors degree a month apart. It was our first time on a cruise ever and I chose Norwegian based on word of mouth. We had the experience of a lifetime and I would do it all over again if we could. The Norwegian app kept us on our toes as we had something to do every hour of the day. The staff was courteous and so personable. Our hosts kept us laughing and we were always entertained. First time cruise has made me a cruiser for life! I can’t wait to plan my next cruise. I’m usually not one for writing reviews but this one was worthy of my time. The food was great and the drinks were even better. For the first time in a long time my sister and I were able to relax and enjoy our entire trip. Read Less

I bought this cruise as a gift for my boyfriend’s 30th birthday. I thought it would be a perfect little getaway plus the open bar included sealed the deal. We arrived at the boat around noon and the embarkation was a breeze. The next day we were SUPPOSED to be at their private island which was what we were most excited about. We woke up the next morning to the captain saying it was too choppy to go to the private island so we will stay at sea which was a hugeeeee bummer. We understood it was for our safety but they didn’t do much to make up for it on the ship. I’m sorry but if I’m not going to be living it up on a private island with drinks and djs, I want to do more than watch someone carve fruit on a pool deck with no music. We even went up to a staff member to ask them what activities were going on because we were just aimlessly walking around the ship and she even apologized for the lack of activities for a younger crowd. Needless to say, Saturday felt like a waste of a day and we were very disappointed. Luckily, we were finally able to get off the boat to go to Nassau the next day. For the most part the food on the boat was really good and they were very accommodating. If the boys wanted two- three entrees, they were more than welcome to serve. Raymond was our server Sunday and we was amazing!! You can tell he really loves his job and truly cares. The comedian on board was hilarious! The disembarking did not go smoothly on the other hand. The line was forever long and when we finally got to the front they made my boyfriend go to a different line for finances. That line was even longer because only one staff member was dealing with ALL of the people getting redirected there. Honestly I’m not sure if I’ll ever cruise with this line again but I do know I think I’d have a different perception if Saturday went the way it was supposed to. Read Less

Based on the title, you can see that we were on a Symphony of the Seas cruise which probably spoiled us a bit. The Mariner of the Seas was an ok boat but I wonder if they had at the "B" staff on this one vs the "A" staff on the Symphony boat. Not to say all the staff was bad - some were friendly but some just did not want to be there. We had suites on both boats but the suite perks are vastly different including the suite lounge and dining options. Surprisingly even though we had a suite - we got stuck with another family for dining at a table with an unfavorable location. Also - no free wifi on Mariner of the Seas. Other than a nicer room - I would not spend the extra money for suite perks. While the room was spacious - we had broken furniture and plumbing. The kids clubs on Mariner was lacking and big step down compared to Symphony and and Disney cruise line. The Sky Pad was not working and the pool area is tiny. The waterpark at CocoCay is not operational so be forewarned. Hit or miss on food. Surprisingly - the food at Windjammer was better than Chops or the Main Dining Hall - go figure. Service at the sports bar was terrible but everywhere else was good. Spend the extra money and hop on Symphony of the Seas - you will not be sorry. Read Less

I was looking for a quick cruise that my wife and I could book. This one was perfect. We flew into Miami from Philadelphia and stayed overnight in South Beach. The next day we were on the first boarding group to board the ship. Embarkation was very easy and we were eating lunch onboard by Noon. The ship is an older one, but it just went through a renovation so a lot of the stuff was new. We were upgraded into a Family Picture Window Suite the day before sailing. The pools and bars were great. It was a short cruise so there were to a lot of kids running around. I also enjoyed the Main Dining halls. I did not go to any Specialty Restaurants. The buffet was like others buffets. The service was very good and everyone working on the ship was friendly. It was rare to pass a member of the crew without getting a "Hello" or "Good Morning", etc. Great Stirrup Cay was great. We missed this on our last cruise because the seas were too rough for the tenders. There were plenty of beach chairs available and a bar was never a far walk. It got a little rowdy on the tender back to the ship once the drunks were leaving the island, but it wasn't out of hand. My favorite room was the Spinnaker Lounge. It is in the very front of the ship and has great views. All in all this was a great cruise and I'd recommend it for somebody looking to get away for three days. Read Less

I have not sailed on the Voyager class - have been on all the others but somehow missed the Voyager class - Mariner was like an abbreviated Independence of the Seas! Anyway, I usually dislike weekend cruises because of the hassles boarding and disembarking - lines, crowds, chaos AND the cruise lines typically use older, less feature rich ships. So when I saw the Mariner OS pop up and I found out she has just completed a massive refit - I decided to risk it and go. While the price was no deal, and since I went solo it was double the fare(almost), it was worth it to me to get on the ship. I did receive an onboard credit so I bought the Ultimate Dining Package with it so that as a solo I would not have to navigate the MDR. Upon arrival at the Port of Miami to the new monolithic RCCL terminal , I have to admit I was impressed. While I am Diamond with RCCL it did not matter at all as I was through check-in, security, and on the ship within 15 minutes of hitting the curb - Amazing. No lines, no fuss, no muss. Once on board at 12:30 Cabins were not available so I explores the ship and went to johnny Rockets for lunch. I must admit my first impression was that the ship was spotless and appeared almost new - everything was refreshed and shimmering. Lunch was ok at Johnny Rockets as I was the first customer I didn't get any of the fun stuff - just a burger and drink. Rooms became available and I went to my "inside" cabin with a window overlooking the Royal Promenade - I had chose a guarantee rate and this is what I received. It was very spacious and centrally located. I then went looking for the Diamond Lounge and found it on deckk 14 - I love the Diamond Lounge as it can be an Oasis of Calm on these dold out cruises - and it was! I used it extensively all weekend. Beautiful sail away from Miami as the sun set behind the skyline. It got dark and we were out to sea about 2 and 1/2 hours out we were told we were returning to Miami due to a medical emergency. What a treat (for me, not the poor patient being rushed back) as the skyline of Miami was in full illumination and it was spectacular. Dinner night one was at Jamie's and I would rate it as just ok, nothing outstanding - Service was less than attentive and I attributed this to being a solo diner. Dinner Night Two was at Izumi and it was fabulous - the food was excellent and service spot on! As good if not better than land based Sushi restaurants. My only dislike was the Teppanyaki shows were ongoing and LOUD but hey that is part of what Teppanyaki is about. Dinner Night Three was in Chops and though I am not a beef eater, I found plenty on the menu and it was very good - service was excellent However, my best dining experience was Sunday (Nassau) for lunch and I opted to go to Jamie's - It was outstanding! I had the Brushetta - yum, the chicken in mushroom cream sauce - Outstanding - lick the bowl clean good and a light Raspberry custard desert that was amazing. Service was attentive and friendly - a great experience. Coco Cay - Will be amazing when finished. The new pool is incredible and the facilities are on par with a Disney WaterPark! Just worry the first hurricane will take it out! The Solarium pool was my hangout as I had the ship to myself while at Coco Cay and Nassau and I was extremely please to see the lifeguards and pool attendants enforcing the 30 minute chair reservation limit AND the smoking rules. Shows were mediocre Lounge acts were excellent Ship is gorgeous and clean!!!!!! Fellow Passengers - all types - some loud and obnoxious others respectful and nice while many were drunk becuase they had purchased drink package and wanted to get their money's worth! All in All - very nice to excellent Read Less

We booked this cruise with extended family. First stop was CocoaCay. All the on ship advertising and email that we received mislead us to believe that the water park and resort style pool was open. The staff on the ship agreed with me that our kids will have a wonderful time on the waterslides at CocoaCay. When we got there, it is still under construction. Really disappointed the kids. We booked two rooms (ocean view with balcony) they were okay, but have a stale, musty smell. Bathroom really need to be updated. Shower had cracks, etc. They clearly spent the lion's share of their renovation money on the common areas of the boat not in the cabins. Service was good, there were a few really attentive servers at dinner. However, the food at dinner was subpar. First night three of the four adults ordered Prime Rib and had to send it back as it was to tough to eat. Worst vacation ever...you should look at other cruise lines before booking on this one. The food/buffets could have been better. And should not be repeated everyday. Best thing was open bar, too forget the food. Dinner at the restaurants-worth it! Comedian was great! So funny! First stop-pvt island-loved it. Family Cabana very nice-complimentary fruit was one small plate. Towels/floats supplied. 50$ reimbursement of food, it was just ok. It’s still Buffett and open bar on beach FYI. Second stop is all about gold mostly. It’s a town of shops. Shows on board, were good but could have been better. Casino. Starbucks, Sushi bar. All white party-tu don’t have to be in all white FYI: any color. Teen club-you need to register them in with an adult. Arcade budget go with the deal-they use there room card. Shampoo/conditioner lotion included. No toothpaste. Best drink-bush wacker! Follow the fish on the rug for front of ship. They put the beach loungers away much too early. It was great to see Bahamas. Cuba is next for Me! Read Less

The Ship alone was great. It just came out of drydock and it was almost like a new ship. The crew were also very kind. The dining room was our issue. Our wait staff on our first night needed some training again. All of our foos was not correct and he seemed not to care. The food also did not taste good either. I did not expect a lot because it was a 3 day cruise but it should have been better. Our room was always clean and neet. When we got off the ship at the end we did a facial recognition system for immigration and it was a lot faster and easier. We carried our bags off and was off the ship by 8am. Over all we had fun. We do not drink much so the drink package for us was water and coffee This shop is really not for kids. Read Less

We travelled as a family of 3 - Mom, Dad and our 7yr old daughter. We chose Mariner as the itinerary worked for us and we’ve cruised Royal previously. We were also looking forward to the newer amenities offered since the ship’s recent revamp. Embarkation: Dead easy. We booked a Jr Suite so we were swept up to the Suite lounge once we arrived at around 1:30pm. Once our docs were checked we were onboard in less than 15 minutes. Fantastic. Cabin: Our 10th floor Jr suite - Rm 1694 - was at the very back of the ship (stern for ship folks..) with an awesome view from our balcony. This was our third time in a Jr suite but our first rear balcony and we loved it! As others have described, the room was very spacious; certainly spacious enough for the 3 of us. The pull out sofa which was made up nightly was perfect for our daughter but I imagine it would not work for a child over 10, maybe 12 years old. The bathtub was great and necessary for our daughter who still likes to take baths. It was also good for our showers. The balcony was huge... a respite from the busyness of the ship. My favorite place. Dining: We ate at Windjammer buffet, the main dining room (5th floor), Chops Grille and the Promenade. Windjammer was fine. Lots of variety and we were only challenged with finding seats on the 3rd morning. Otherwise the buffet seating was more than adequate. The food was decent enough - not great, not bad. We enjoyed it. We only ate dinner in the MDR once and it was just okay. The service was excellent but the food was average. My husband liked his steak but my short rib wasn’t very good. My daughter isn't a foodie so no real opinion from her. Read Less
