We wanted to try a river cruise AND enjoy a little time in Paris prior to sailing. The fact that itinerary included the opportunity to go to the beaches of Normandy was also a big decision point for us. During the tenure of this cruise we were able to walk in the footsteps of Joan of Arc, Richard the Lionhearted, Claude Monet and the greatest hero’s of WWII. To experience all that in one trip was ...
We have completed over 20 ocean cruises and wanted to try a River Cruise. The timing was right for this one and the price was right as there was a big sell. I think we booked at the end of July 2018 for a March 2019 cruise. My wife loves the castles and she loved the day we cruised and saw all of the castles. The staff was very good to us. We celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary and they ...
This river cruise was a great experience! I really enjoyed the atmosphere. It was a small boat so we were able to meet more people and form better relationships with those around us. The onboard entertainment was better than I had expected. There was great music and activities on board during sailing days and as well as other days. The enrichment programs were very well done and gave us a greater ...
We enjoyed everything...... well, almost everything.
The ship, the cabin, the trip itinerary, the tours, the tour guides, and especially the ship-board staff were all excellent. That is what we have come to expect from Viking. Kudos.
The food, however, was not excellent. At best, I would call it sub-standard.
To be fair, I would rate the breakfasts as adequate. Lunches were also ...
We planned this cruise as a commemoration of my late father-in-law's D-day service. My husband had spoken of taking such a trip for several years and we finally decided to just do it. So happy we did. As someone who finds war disturbing on every level, I must admit the Normandy Beaches outing was surprisingly moving. The sincere appreciation demonstrated by the French people is touching, as ...
Friends raved about the quality of Viking River Cruises, so when we found what we felt to be a great deal, we decided to indulge ourselves. We loved every minute! Crew on the Delling was totally professional and also very welcoming, attentive and fun. They appeared to enjoy what they did, and set that mood for all. There were so many “little touches” that enhanced the experience: aperitifs at ...
This is a fascinating, educational cruise. While there was plenty of down time for relaxation, we enjoyed the excursions very much. Abu Simbal was fantastic and worth the extra expense and travel. Onboard there were Arabic lessons and we learned about hieroglyphics. The Temples along the Nile are fantastic. We enjoyed visiting Luxor Temple as the sun was going down.
I learned to sharpen my ...
My wife and I chose Viking - and, specifically, their "Imperial Jewels of China" itinerary, for our first trip to China. Overall, we are glad we did so. Though it was not without concerns and drawbacks.
To be clear, the experience of visiting China for more than two weeks was fabulous. We have been fortunate to travel well. This was probably our most interesting, brain-stimulating adventure. ...
Food, wine, scenery excellent. We got to know the crew and other passengers due to the small number of people involved. It was great only having to unpack once and staying in the same room every night. We were surprised at the variety of different people on board. Even though it was March, the weather was good and the spring season was far ahead of where it was in Minnesota, with leaves on the ...
I'm a solo traveler, and would definitely take this tour again.
It's my favorite Viking cruise to date! The Bordeaux region is fabulous - I'd recommend it whether or not you love wine! I'd highly recommend the pre-cruise tour of the Loire Valley. All of the towns and villages throughout the cruise were so enjoyable - picking up a baguette from the local boulangerie and fresh cheeses at the ...
