Things they didn’t tell you

Review for Viking Polaris to Antarctica

Our flight to South America was changed 4 times the last one week before we left, and the date was changed. Good thing we are retired. Viking packing list ignore, taped all that out yes three layers but only one hat and one set of gloves. Laundry on ship was easy to use. Yes they have two submarines, don’t plan on getting on them. People who had reservations prior to departure were told too bad ...

Great staff, shame about the class system and cost cutting

Review for Viking Octantis to Antarctica

This cruise was a repositioning cruise which commenced from New York. We boarded in Rio De Janeiro. Therefore, many of the excursions were not available due to guests boarding in NY (being able to access excursions online much earlier and for kayaks and submarine trips in Antartica) as well as the "class system" perpetuated by Viking. (We booked Nordic Penthouse). We were due to stay in Port ...

Best Expedition experience

We've done 4 river and 1 ocean cruise on Viking, and the Expedition experience to Antarctica was exceptional. The Polaris was made to provide an outstanding expedition experience; 2 submarines, kayaks, Zodiacs for getting to remote places, and Special Operations Boats for a thrill ride! Marc and his 20+ crew of expedition experts provided transport, information, and fun experiences as we made ...

We are loyal Viking fans and have been on both their ocean and river ships. The new Polaris expedition ship is amazing! The staff were just fantastic. Everyone worked together to make this the most unforgettable voyage. We feel so fortunate to have experienced our 7th and final continent with the Viking family. The beauty and aura of the locations we visited and the wildlife we saw can almost ...

A Wonderful Experience

This was a bucket list cruise for us and Viking offered a great price on their brand new expedition ship, Polaris. We have always only heard about good things on Viking but did not imagine the treat we were in for. It was our first sailing on a small ship and it did not disappoint. Pre-sailing preparation to disembarkation was outstanding and unlike anything we have experienced on other ...

Beautiful new ship was a pleasure to be on. During the rough seas through the Drake's Passage, the ship was stable most of the time and we sailed through it without any trouble. The ship was able to navigate in and out of the peninsulas of Antarctica. The excursion crew was excellent and ensured everyone was safe and able to experience Antarctica 1st hand, including many sightings of penguins, sea ...

Beautiful new ship with a great staff!

Viking is a #1 company. This trip to Antarctica was one of our all time favorites! There were so many things to do - zodiac landings, Special Operations Boats, SUBs, Kayaking, and even a surprise opportunity to snowshoe! My only complaint about the excursions is that they were not consistent with what we could do and when we could do it. For example, we really wanted to snowshoe, but we were ...

Have never been to Brazil and was excited about the experience with the new expedition ships the Viking has developed. As expected Viking is a first class way to travel on any of their fleet of ships. Enjoyed meeting the expedition staff and the incredible informative including seeing/learning about microplastics, seeing the Hangar and Science Laboratory and the (BRUVS) Baited Remote Underwater ...

This cruise was an opportunity to see the Great Lakes area. Viking is in our view is the best of the best. Exceptional ship and amazing research done on board. Great dining and all-inclusive pricing. Amazing staff and staff to quest ratio is better than 2 to 1. The ship is the star of the cruise and the best ship we have ever sailed on. Historians on board made for an exceptional cruise and ...

A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE

Review for Viking Octantis to Caribbean - All

User Avatar

The expedition experience that Viking is selling with this ship is definitely different from the typical ocean cruise experience. There are about two dozen staff members who are assigned to bring the expedition experience to life. The ship shares many of the design elements of the ocean ships. The cabins are nice and feature a floor to ceiling window instead of a balcony. The room darkening shade ...
