We chose this cruise to discover World War 1 history. It included two excellent speakers, one of whom had written a book on Pashendaele, and excellent excursions with knowledgeable tour leaders. The ship is small and cosy with extremely friendly staff. There were several ways of getting to the ship and we made our own way. Some did Eurostar, others flew and another group took the ferry. As this was a relatively new cruise there were some changes. We did not have enough time to look around Brussels because our other visits were too long but only a few found this a problem. Special mention needs to be made of the trips to Ypres, Tyne Cot and Mons as well as other notable WW1 sites. The lectures and discussions in the evenings were very though provoking and added to our knowledge of this period of history. The only disappointment was Antwerp where the guides did not follow the WW1 theme, and the weather which was no t kind to us! Read Less

My friend and I chose this cruise from The River Cruise Line as it went up the Danube to Vienna, Bucharest, Bratislava and other smaller places. It was our first cruise and we weren't sure what to expect. We needn't have worried. The coach took us to Passau where we joined ms Serenity. Embarkation and disembarkation at the various stopping places went very easily. The ship was very clean and well maintained. Our cabin was small though we didn't feel claustrophobic and was very comfortable. The crew were marvellous and nothing was too much trouble. Food was delicious and there was plenty of it. We had a quiz night which was hilarious and a show by the crew which again was very funny. The excursions were well managed though we did find the constant amount of information the guides gave us became information overload. Everyone on board - all adults no children - were very friendly and there was a lovely atmosphere. My friend and I would certainly go back on another riverboat cruise by The River Cruise Line. This Cruise, our first, was booked over the occasion of my 70th birthday, Always an ambition of mine to cruise the Rhine and I was not disappointed. The crew from the Captain downwards were very friendly and efficient, I can give an accolade to the executive chef Clinton James for his fabulous food and its presentation. The ship was a delight to sail on despite all the troubles of the River Cruise line prior to departure. I would have no hesitation in giving my recommendation for this cruise and just as an aside am going to book the same ship next year on the Danube. We sailed from Koblenz to Basle through some beautiful scenery and fortunately had little or no rain over the week. The Cruise director was knowledgeable and approachable as were the cabin staff and crew. We were joined on the cruise by two celebrities who gave us excellent entertainment and the benefit of their individual knowledge of specialised subjects. David Harper on antiques and Lesley Waters on cooking/baking. The shore excursions were pricey but value for money I was absolutely astounded by the visit to the music museum, not to be missed by any traveller. The Rhine falls, not up to Lake Victoria standard nonetheless impressive and Lake Tittisee also not to be missed. Our resident driver was English and the coach (right hand drive) was roomy and comfortable. Overall I have to award the experience five stars Read Less

Being a big fan of Christmas markets, this cruise is an ideal way to see some of the best without the hassle of an airport. My husband and l had never cruised before but were very impressed both with the Tour Manager Ed and coach driver Steve from Cruiseline and the multi talented captain and staff aboard the Lady Anne .Granted, this is a cruise aimed at a certain age group but l wouldn't let that put anyone off.The ship is small compared to some of its rivals but that only adds to its friendliness. The food was excellent and there is a couple of exercise bikes on the sun deck for those feeling guilty about indulging themselves. There is plenty to see on the Rhine and both ports and excursions gave plenty of opportunities to see the local areas. My highlights were standing on the frosty deck sailing up the river and wandering the Christmas markets of Cologne and Rudesheim.I would cruise with this company on the Lady Anne again as l understand they do several themed trips. We chose this because it departs from Hull to Rotterdam on P&O Ferries & then the coach takes us to the Lady Anne ship. This is much better than the long coach travel to Dover. The food on the Lady Anne was superb as was the service of the staff. The only bad thing was the very steep stairs (X2) to & from the lounge to the dining room. Our coach driver, Mark, of Llew Jones coaches for "The River Cruise Line" was the best we have ever had & should win an award for the cleanest coach inside as well as outside. Mark also booked us taxis to pick us up from our pick up point. Our days out were to Volendam (great) & Amsterdam (very crowded with lots of stag & hen does). Our other trips were to Kampen with a excursion to the Het Loo Palace (boring) & to the Keukenhof Gardens which was was very exhausting. We also did a cheese & wine Amsterdam cruise through the red light district on our last evening. On travelling back to the Rotterdam ferry we visited Delft & a trip around its pottery place. The food on the Rotterdam ferry was the same as the out going ferry but that price of s bottle of vino was £16 for a bottle I could have bought in ASDA for £4. This was an expensive but enjoyable trip but every thing was taken care of. I hope other travel operators will copy this Hull crossing. Read Less
