This was our first Ocean Cruise after going to China & Hong Kong, then Russia with Viking River Cruises. We asked Viking to give us 'sensible' flight times (UK to Barcelona) and they gave us a 7 hour flight, starting at 06:20 at BHX, transiting through AMS, before finally arriving at BCN at 12:30. Our return flight from Rome was no better. So, we arranged our own flights and got £ 150 per person refunded, which worked for us. We arrived in BCN the day before our cruise and booked a private transfer to the Eurostars Grand Marina Hotel (5 Star) which is at the port and close to Las Ramblas, which was perfect. Once at the port we checked in, had our luggage taken away, and had the rest of the day free. Being in a Deluxe Veranda meant that we had access to our suite from 2 pm. after an 11:00 check in. The staff were truly excellent, save for some inexperienced restaurant staff who regularly spilt wine on the table, or onto our (delicious) bread. We were once shown to our table, where there were loads of crumbs on the seating and floor & I had to ask them to clear them up! The food was always exciting, different and fantastic, especially in The Chef's Table and Manfredis. The poor part of the cruise were the Excursions. The included ones were terrible, whilst the paid for ones were overpriced and were mostly bus tours. You were lucky if you got an hour free, which is not long enough for Florence, Monte Carlo, Rome etc. The ship was always within walking distance of town, but if a little further, then shuttle buses were laid on. Our only regret i sthat we did not have time to visit the spa with the sauna and snow grotto. We were surprised to have to leave our cabin by 8 am, and be off the ship by 9:45, but that is probably normal. We would definitely cruise with Viking Ocean again, but probably sort out our own excursions or be more choosy. Happiness Rating: 85 % Read Less

I have challenging food allergies and I cannot say enough about how much the crew helped me in all the dining areas to stay away from foods that are offensive. In the main dining room they made special gourmet versions of the meals with sauces that I could eat. They even made special deserts and even my own custom Birtday cake. I cannot tell you how amazing this made the dining experience and further enhanced my loyalty to Princess. Watching the Super Bowl on their huge screen surrounding the pool was also an amazing experience. I cannot say enough about how much we love the Regal. It is great fun watching movies and concerts up at the main pool. Entertainment has improved as they now have 2 bands that play in different venues on the ship. They play a great variety of music and We enjoyed dancing under the stars. Read Less

We had a most enjoyable cruise on Royal Caribbean,s Oasis of the Seas. The ship is beautiful, very clean, and everyone was very pleasant and helpful. The room was comfortable and very clean. We enjoyed many different areas of the ship. The dining rooms are unbelievably beautiful. The shows we're super. There are many restaurants serving everything one could imagine. Shopping on the oasis was also great. I don't think I missed one shop. There were many good sales and deals available every day also. Of course we spent some time in the casinos which we loved. The crew was just the best. They made every day special! There was something to do at all times for everyone's likes. We loved the shows and music, dancing and partying in general. We were with a group of 51 people and a good time was had by all. We enjoyed every minute of our cruise and look forward to our next cruise vacation. Read Less

Only cruise with Royal. We have been on every class of ship I think. Didn't like small one like the Majesty. Oasis was huge. We like the class of Independence, Freedom and Liberty. Overall though Royal is our home on the water when we cruise. I would recommend Royal to anyone. It is relaxing. Food is great. The décor was nice. Ship was easy to get around on; never got lost; lol. Room was very quiet; never heard noise from outside. Ate at my time dining for dinner every night. Food was fantastic. Had the best waiter. Going again in 2018 in Feb. Might go again for a short cruise later this year. We go out of Port Canaveral and Fort Lauderdale; very easy to check in and getting off at end of cruise. If you haven't tried Royal; give them a whirl. you will love it and will do it again and again like us. Read Less

This was my first time with Celebrity and it was amazing. I just returned from sunny Miami back to cold Vienna. Overall, I was very impressed, especially by the staff. They were always smiling and create a really awesome atmosphere on board. Also the dining on board was great, the food was delicious. The vegetables and fruits were always fresh and crisp. My sister is allergic to many things, so every day the manager of the main restaurant taking good care that all the dishes were aligned with her nutrition. It was great how helpful he was. Also all waiters were really outstanding. Always making fun and helping everybody. Our room was 3147, in the first night it was very noisy due to the air-condition. I complained about it, and the next day we got a new room (3158), this was much better and we had great days with Celebrity. The ship is also amazing, and all the guests were really relaxed. This was an extraordinary trip, which we recommend to all those, who love cruising. Read Less

THE CRUISE LINE - Holland America We've been on five cruises, and all of them on Holland America - so, we can't compare to other lines. Our experience has been consistent. It is classy, but no where near stuffy. The staff are friendly in the extreme and are always there to help. They are ever-present but not imposing. Their ships are "mid-size", topping out at about 86,000 tons (compared to more than 200,000 from a couple of the Royal Caribbean behemoths!). I would describe the line as "quietly elegant". The ships offer enough activities while also providing an awful lot of places you can have a quiet moment and read. THE SHIP - Zuiderdam In April 2017, the Zuiderdam will be going into dry dock until October for a refitting/refurbishing. While I wouldn't call the ship shabby or worn, I would say that it was in need of some sprucing/freshening up. The carpets in the public places, for example are a little too vibrant and, in the photo sales corridor it is literally dizzying. They could use updating. The lounges and the rooms, however, are just fine on that score. The ship is laid out like all HAL ships. They are all nearly identical in deck plan and public spaces. This is a nice thing for returning HAL customers - it's a little like going to a familiar vacation spot that you are already comfortable with. There tends to be music around the pools during the day - and the lounges are quiet at that time. The Crow's Nest (deck 10, forward), is a great observation deck. All glass walls out to the sea on three sides. Big, comfy, leather lounge chairs are there - perfect for reading while having a drink. The Crow's Nest is surprisingly quiet during most of the day. The teak promenade deck that encircles the ship is a feature on all HAL ships. It's not only a great place to do some walking laps, but a wonderful place to just spend some quiet time. Teak steamer lounge chairs line the decks - and some are always available. It gives the feel of an old-time ocean liner as opposed to a cruise ship. The only noise you'll find is the waves passing by and the soft sounds of people's conversations as they stroll past you. It's really nice. The ship (like all HAL ships) is immaculate. All HAL ships rank very high on the CDC's inspection list. Staff and crew are constantly cleaning, polishing, buffing, vacuuming, repairing. THE CABIN/STATEROOM - Neptune Suite The Neptune Suite is quite large (about 550 s.f.) with a long deck (about 20 ft) that has a table with chairs and a couple lounge chairs also. The king size bed is incredibly comfortable. One of the best things about HAL is they have the best beds! There is an 8 ft couch, coffee table, two comfortable chairs, a changing/make-up room, and a very large bath with double sinks, a jacuzzi tub/shower, and a separate shower. There are fresh flowers and a chilled bottle of champagne waiting for you in your room when you arrive. There is a ton of closet space and a good deal of drawer space. The cabin stewards are wonderfully attentive - but I don't think that's because we were in a suite - I just think that's a signature of HAL's service. The only real ding I'd give the suite is the TV is a bit small for the room. I'm not one that needs a mega-screen, but the screen was a bit small for the viewing distance. Maybe they'll change that in the refurb. One of the best things about having a Neptune Suite is having access to the Neptune Lounge on deck 7. It's an extremely comfortable, large lounge with plenty of comfortable seating, appetizers throughout the day (and fruit, cereal, baked goods, smoked salmon, and fresh-squeezed OJ for breakfast). There are pastries and hand-made chocolates for the taking. There is a honor's bar, too. There are two concierges that learn your name immediately and are incredibly helpful and friendly. THE FOOD Overall, I find the food on HAL to be top shelf. Is it 5-star gourmet luxury? Not quite. But the meals are certainly creative and wonderfully executed - and are deliciously pleasing to even real foodies like myself. Jamaican-style Cuman-crusted lamb chops; pork rib-roast with apricot dressing; mushroom and wild rice chowder; escargot; bucatini with duck (oh my god - so good!); bourbon-glazed beef; beef and tuna carpaccio; mahi-mahi; rainbow trout - just a few examples. The proteins are always succulent - perfectly cooked. The vegetables are perfect - just the right bite to them. The sauces are amazing. We both have food allergies. Our waiter was so attentive, he gave us the next day's menu at the end of every meal so that we could make our selections - and then he'd make sure that they were properly prepared for us. On the nights we didn't dine in the dining room, he delivered the menus to our room. The only negative I can say about any of the meals this trip: the duck breast wasn't seared enough to render out the fat - so there was an unappealing layer of uncrisp flab on it. And the meat was, consequently, on the dry side. This is the only time out of all the meals I've ever had on HAL that I could find fault with the duck (or any protein). The pastries they make could be right out of a Parisian bakery. Most of the breads are really good (one or two are "ehh"). Dining at the Pinnacle Grill (surcharge) is an elegant experience. Every time I have had one of their steaks, it is melt-in-your-mouth incredible. I would say the steaks in the Pinnacle Grill are better than any I can remember having on land. I think the room service menu is surprisingly limited. The food is plentiful and quite good and promptly delivered, but the selections could be a bit broader. ON-BOARD EXPERIENCE There are minimal announcements over the P/A system. One or two a day. You can easily find music and company and drinks - or a cup of tea and a book and a quiet spot. The gym is really excellent. They offer programming during the day (especially during the at-sea days) such as cooking demonstrations, guest speakers, etc. There is a cinema (and you can also choose from over 1000 movies to watch in your room). There is a casino and shopping. Many comment on how HAL cruises skew to an older crowd. I think this is generally true, but not usually so that it is noticeable or has any impact on the experience. This particular cruise was markedly different, though. We (at 61 and 58) were among the younger people on board. The average age, I would guess, would be 72+/- for this cruise. I've never seen such a passenger makeup on any other cruise, and have no idea why this particular one would have such an older client-base. That is not by any means a complaint, but an observation that may have made a difference to some. But, I'll tell ya - there were a lot of folks on that ship take made me laugh hard - great people with great senses of humor. We are a gay couple. To say this is a non-issue is an understatement. We couldn't feel more comfortable. BOTTOM LINE The Zuiderdam, like all HAL ships, feel welcoming, manageable, comfortable and familiar. The cruise experience is exactly what we need it to be - every time. I can't think of a reason why we would ever try a different cruise line. Read Less

Wanted to go somewhere warm to get away from winter cold. The Captain of the ship was extremely funny. The rest of the crew were wonderful. Everyone was very friendly and eager to please. Sara, the Cruise Director was great, always a smile. We had a problem in our room which was handled professionally and quickly. Enjoyed Silent Disc, fun to watch and participate. Service in the dinner room was wonderful, especially John T and Artha. Enjoyed Coco Cay, Celebrity's private island. The entertainment could have been better. A bit disappointing in the shows. Comedian was extremely funny. Game show featuring Captain, HH person, and comedian were very funny and entertaining. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. Shore excursions were well organized and worth doing. Weather could not have been any better. Everyday was beautiful and warm. Throughly enjoyed this cruise. We would do it again. I love Celebrity Cruises and the Solstice was absolutely beautiful. Our room, 7118, did have a problem with the dividers on the deck and the sliding glass door but, after calling, it was taken care of. The food was outstanding. I have to eat gluten free and they have an amazing assortment to choose from. The entertainment was beyond anything we have seen on a cruise ship before. Every show was beyond words. Our room steward, Yogi, was amazing. Our room was always very clean. Our waiter, Ruben, and his assistant were both wonderful. They went all out to make sure we were very happy with everything that we had. I always tell everyone that Celebrity is my favorite cruise line and I would highly recommend the Solstice. Chose this cruise for a couple of reasons. We wanted a trip to Fiji, Australia and New Zealand. We had sailed on Celebrity once before and really liked it. So when this cruise came on the radar we jumped on it. We got a great deal which helped. Our room (6169) with an obstructed balcony view, was nice. Very efficient and the bathroom especially was easy to use and didn't feel as crowded as some others we've been in. The use of space is great and there were cupboards with doors which helped us keep it organized. The shower was nice with the shower head high enough for my husband who is 6'1". There was enough space in there to make it feel pretty comfortable. We found the dining in the Grand Epernay to be really good, as was the service. We had a beverage package as well which was really nice for the good selection of drinks, wines, beers, coffees, teas and bottled water. The ship was spotless and well organized. The ships production show dancers and singers were excellent. We are privy to great entertainment where we live and this cast was fantastic. The other entertainers were also very good. Enjoyed the hot glass show very much and seeing a movie on the top deck lawn area. A very nice ship, staff and cruise! Fitness center was really nice but didn't use it much! Same with the spa. Got a massage which was nice but over-priced. Read Less

Love the 14 Night cruises in February - to get away from the cold Canadian winter for a few weeks! Embarkation was excellent at Miami, as well as the disembarkation - very well coordinated and pain free! Ships are always so clean and they make sure everyone uses Purell hand santizier before they enter any of the eating areas and when returning to the ship from shore excursions. Purell is also available throughout the ship. Cabin is always very clean when we check in and the attendants give the best service; cleaning rooms twice per day, turn down service - just amazing! Food was fantastic as always! The entertainment is always top notch with the best Entertainment Directors who make for a fun trip! Eddy on this particular cruise was so personable and truly genuine in his quest to ensure everyone was happy and having a great time. This was our 7th cruise with Celebrity and they never disappoint! New ports that we've never been to made us book this cruise, and we always have been pleased with NCL. The ports were so interesting, our steward so caring, ship was lovely, though we use the ship more to get to destinations rather than participate in ship activities. Moderno was our favorite specialty restaurant. Having been to Brazil, it was a fabulous experience on board. Mini-suite nice, but wouldn't book the 11th floor again. Some sort of noise problems some nights, not all, even though Guest Services tried to resolve. We never experienced this before and still wonder what caused it. Shopping not as good on board as other cruise lines. Enjoyed this ship, though, as we prefer the smaller ships and not the newly constructed mega ships. We are now Elite with the loyalty club, and will certainly be back on NCL again. We've traveled through the Caribbean several times with NCL, Alaska and TransAtlantic and have always enjoyed our experiences with them. This Pacific Cruise was great with Cabo, Acapulco (thought Mexico is letting this gorgeous city deteriorate), Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama Canal and Colombia. Ole!! Read Less

Easy cruising from from Galveston. Embarkation was quick. and we were on board and Our cabin was ready on time at 1 pm. Our luggage arrived midafternoon. The ship is very nice and attractively decorated. Although it was a pretty full sailing, there were few times it felt crowded and overall it is very quiet. Our cabin was the very last balcony on the starboard side which provided an extra measure of privacy. We found the quality of the food to be quite good in the dining room. We loved Giovanni's but were disappointed in Chops. Room service simply couldn't handle the crush of orders. The Windjammer for breakfast was both good and easy and we usually sat in The Chops dining room. Lunch in the main dining room was excellent. We prepurchased the Ultimate Beverage Program and it worked well for us. . Our Roatan excursion was Maya Key. In Belize we took the Lamani and the New River Safari excursion. In Cozumel we took the Panoramic Tour. On the last sea day, we did the kitchen tour with lunch following. We found the entertainment to be quite good. The scope of the presentations was amazing for the venues in which they occurred. They have sourced some excellent talent. We really loved this cruise and would happily take another RCCL out of Galveston. Read Less

Our cruise was on the Upper Irrawaddy. This is our 3rd Pandaw cruise in 2 years. They epitomize the benefits and joys of Myanmar experience. The food is great, the itineraries are creative. We faced a couple of crises (caught on sand bars) and the crew is empowered to find solutions. The staff are friendly to the point of knowing passengers quite intimately which guarantees a personalized service, especially at meal times. This does NOT have ocean liner evening options. Pandaw takes you into the heart and soul of this country whose citizens are probably the nicest people on this planet. Despite having already done the Chindwin River cruise last year and Halong Bay/Red River out of Hanoi this year, we have been reminded of why Pandaw fulfills our river cruise needs. We almost certainly will return next year for another Pandaw experience. Children would not find this satisfactory. The clientele on all of our Pandaw cruises have been 'Senior' or close to it. The excursions are not particularly demanding but are VERY rewarding. One day, we found ourselves in the middle of a wedding and a funeral, just a few minutes apart and were urged - by the parties involved - to join them and participate. The interaction and opportunity to meet the Burmans is truly the highlight of our Myanmar experiences. Read Less

I had a wonderful time on this ship, the whole crew was very friendly including Housekeeping. There was no dissatisfaction for me the whole cruise. I love Karaoke and the two people who hosted it were two women named Kelsey & Maggie, very polite hosts like the rest of the crew they will also join you in singing if you asked them. Karaoke is located in the Leonardo Lounge and the cruise has very friendly bartenders. One of my favorites is a woman named Elin, she is very friendly and a great person to talk to, she has a very bubbly personality and she makes good drinks. these 3 ladies that I have named in this review I refer them to any passenger cause they are the best and so is the whole crew! The Food Is great. they will have different nationality foods on Lido deck every once and a while along with your old fashion Hamburgers and hol dogs and fries, I never went to the formal dining cause I forgot my belt for my dress pants at home. Cozumel Mexico was great for shopping, Grand Cayman I didn't go to cause of the Mosquito's. Either way I had an amazing time. The cruise also had Single meet ups for straight & gay couples that are not ran buy any of the crew members but, I don't think anyone was interested in going to any of the meet ups when I was on the cruise I went to 2 straight single meet ups there was nobody lol and quite honeslty I think singles groups are a waste of time in my opinion. We chose this cruise because it sails out of Charleston S.C. And we are so glad we did. My husband and I stayed in an outside stateroom and were traveling with another couple. We enjoyed the cruise very much. We especially enjoyed the wonderful wait staff in the Wind Song and Wind Star dining room....we are talking to you Donald and Oleh !! It was a sad night to leave them! Loved the song they performed for us the last night. The food was very good, and we felt very pampered in the dining rooms This cruise we spent a lot of time on the Serenity Deck which is limited to over age 21 for a little more adult/upscale atmosphere. The towel attendant was so very pampering and made sure we had fresh towels, even rolling them up and placing under our heads! Guy Fieri's hamburger grill had just opened and were truly the best burgers we have ever had. We also spent quite a lot of time in the new Alchemy Bar. Bartender-Alexander created a new mango drink that we love. Also wonderful is the Cucumber Sunrise. And Janna the waitress/server is exceptional! The excursions were to Nassau and to Half Moon Cay. The couple we were with had not been to Nassau so we went ashore and enjoyed fresh conch salad at Senior Frog's. But the trip to Nassau pales in comparison to the day excursion to Half Moon Cay. I highly recommend this day trip for all. Overall this was a wonderful trip and could only have been improved if the Half Moon Cay excursion was two days instead of one. Read Less

Not alot of choices in main dining area. the buffet needed more veggies and less carbs. but edible. entertainment was good. shore excursions were great, just wish time was longer in many areas. Don't like being rushed with such beautiful views. maybe spend less time in touring the downtown areas. loved how ncl provided such nice lunches. two of ours were at resorts. embarkation and disembarkation was excellent. at the end our bus was waiting for us, we walked off ship and onto bus to airport. Excellent..only problem we had was arriving at airport, instead of holding ncl signs for transfer to hotel, there were people with clipboards only. we were trying to get luggage and missed people with clipboards. holding ncl signs would have helped us. Our first B2B cruise..it was fantastic! We stayed at the W hotel in Ft Lauferdale. Beautiful hotel but we weren't crazy about the picture window between the room and the bathroom. Once on the ship we went directly to the Park cafe for the amazing Roastbeef sandwiches and my wife loves the ham & Brie pannine. We had quite a few of those during the next 2 weeks. We were in balcony cabin 7594 and it was very convienent as one deck up was Central park and 2 decks down was the promenade and the Boardwalk. Rockets doesn't open for breakfast till 8:30 and if you go around 9:30 and after there will be a line. We also had breakfast in the American Icon, deck 3 aft. That's a nice option and it starts early for those early risers. Park Cafe also offers grab and go breakfast with egg McMuffins Brakfase burritos, fresh fruit etc.. We had my time dining and it worked out great. On the nights that we weren't eaking dinner in the specialty restaurants we would go to Silk and have the same table and waiters. The service was excellent and the staff very friendly. The food was excellent. my only dissapointment was that the escargo wasn't hot enough for my liking. I tried it twice and both times it was just warm...I just ordered other things and they were all very good. We tried Chops twice and loved it, Jamie Olivers once, loved it..especially the plank. We ate at the Habachi once but would have eaten there again but it was sold out. We also ate at 150 Park whic was very fancy and delicious. The service there was amazing. We loved the shows, especially the Fine Line in the aqua theater. Grease was OK, it was word for word the movie. Columbus is not to be missed. All & all we loved the Harmony and booked another 2 weeks next year.. Read Less

This was my 6th cruise - 5th cruise with Carnival! This was my Husband's 1st cruise ever! We both had a phenomenal honeymoon! Our cabin was on the 1st floor Mid Ship and we didn't hear too much from below. We slept very well, our cabin was clean, the toilet was a little slow to flush sometimes but we kind of found that funny (we have a weird sense of humor) At dinner, Carnival sat us with 3 other couples that we found we all had a lot in common(Thank you Carnival) Also, the food was amazing! We found the Shows were ok, the comedians were wonderful, and the games were fantastic (Hasbro game show, Love & Marriage show etc..) The gym was fantastic - I highly recommend the workout classes - Boot camp, Pilates, spinning...they are an extra fee but I thought it was worth it! When else do I get the time to workout for an hour with a professional? The activities were pretty good! Hairy man competition is a must see! The Ports were nice! I highly recommend booking the Salsa & Salsa excursion in Mazatlan! You definitely get your bang for your buck there! I would absolutely do this Cruise again! And ride the Camels in Cabo San Lucas this time! Read Less

We picked this cruise based on the itinerary and price. We flew into Miami the day before and enjoyed a dinner near out hotel that evening. Embarkation was a little bit of a mess. We asked multiple people the same question and got as many different answers. Once on board things went smoothly. Our cabins were ready early enough for us to drop most of our stuff off before exploring the ship. Our room steward was pretty good but we never had a breakfast menu for room service or our customs forms at the end of the cruise. We purchased the 7 meal ultimate dining package. Next time I think we'd only do 5. Moderne was just ok. The salad bar was great but the rest of the dinner was just ok. If you've ever dined at Fogo de Chao or Brazzaz you'll be disappointed. My favorite dinner by far was Bayamo. It was absolutely worth the up charge on top of the package. La Cucina was also wonderful and a close second. The other specialty restaurants were good, just not overwhelmingly amazing. We also went to The Supper Club for Brenda Braxton. The show was wonderful but the food was not. I probably wouldn't do that one again. That was the only show we went to. Overall service was very good and in some cases exceptional. I have no complaints about this. Our balcony cabin was also great. Since there was only 2 of us it had adequate storage but if we had brought our kids it would have been very tight. Our favorite feature of the ship was the waterfront. It was a wonderful place to eat or have a glass of wine. The weather was a little rough (high winds and lots of waves) so we definitely felt some motion. It wasn't enough to make me sick but I did have to take Meds to help. Our only real complaint was that there wasn't really a place for my husband to smoke cigars. The smoking section by the Waves bar was always packed and the cigar lounge was full of cigarette smokers. Overall we had a wonderful trip and will definitely book another cruise with Norwegian. Read Less

We chose this cruise due to the ship's age and the look and feel of videos and photos of the ship. It surpassed our expectations by far. The ship was beautiful, clean, functional, well designed, and easy to move around in. The seating was comfortable, the views from Deck 8 Waterfront were wonderful. The upper deck had a lot of protective glass that obstructed some of the top level views, but there were enough spaces up there without that to allow for unobstructed views. The sail away party was great, as was the 80's party and the GLOW party. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We felt very little motion on this cruise, other than when sitting on tall chairs in the bars--it was very smooth. The casino was quite large and fun, though the video poker odds (6-5 payouts on Jacks or Better) and, I suspect, the slot odds were awful. The dealers at craps and blackjack were very friendly and knowledgeable. We set a very high bar by choosing Norwegian Escape, to the point I am worried that other ships we try will simply be disappointing in comparison. I cannot wait to sail on her again. Read Less

Took 2 sets of friends who were first time cruisers and they loved it. Already booked another one on board. Service, Food and more Service. The cruise director was great. I loved the silent disco parties they had 3 times. The evening comedians were good too. I feel the food in the dining room was top notch and so was the service. Buffet upstairs was also very good lots of different meat to carve. Pizza the best. Nothing to complain about. I thought the people in the future cruise department could be a bit more friendly. The casino host did a good job in the evenings, lots of fun. Ship is clean. I didn't like the short stop in San Juan. Not much to do when you pull in at 3p.m. and have to be back on board by 9p.m. St. Kitt's not a lot to do their either, but this hasn't bothered me as it's all about the ship. Love St. Maarten.
