Not what was expected. Very unfriendly staff. Outdated vessel. Very small. Not well kept. Food was worse than hospital food. Balcony very dirty. Not a lot of activities on-board for 4 day duration. Age group 50-85. Disembarkment process very early. Shops with expensive prices. Atrium is a small hole in the vessel. Elevators are old and dirty. Not sailing again with a Princess. The staff seem to agree that Royal Princess have higher standards in food, cleanliness and ship entertainment. The cocktails were very overpriced. Coffee tasted like water, looked muddy. Tea was better option. Same breakfast menu every single day. Buffet posts and glass were extremely dirty. Staff around ship couldn’t answer badic questions, but gave honest responses, “sorry, I can’t answer that, maybe someone else knows”!!! I would spend a few hundred more and get a better experience with an alternate cruiseline. Many seniors with books in hand and ready for relaxation. Read Less

30th wedding anniversary. * Embarking from terminal 25 ft. Lauderdale, port everglades, which is used almost exclusively by Celebrity was a mess, no order at all; Upon arrival in the terminal 25 was met with a very large mass of people standing around Pressed up against the gangway that was not allowing entry to the ship. * Packs of people no queues, no signs, no directions or explanations why not being allowed to board. We completed about a week before on the Celebrity web page, the pre embarking docs Celebrity Express pass said to board 1200-1230. Boarding of the 100s jammed into the terminal 25 began at 1300. * During the wait pressed up against the crowd were a few celebrity employees roaming the 100s of passengers with computer tablets, taking pictures.Until we inched our way thru the masses that we discovered these roaming celebrity employees & struggled to learn what they were doing. the Celebrity employees did Not verify cabin number, drink pkgs, wifi, or Other items previously paid to the travel agent NOR items paid on the Celebrity web site by the passenger. On board that nite discovered wifes card did not have drink pkg upgrade fortunately before generating charges. * No key issued in terminal nor Gangway * No guidance from the gangway onto ship * The cabin contained 2Sea pass cards. I discovered before using the seapass card during the 12 day trip, that my wifes card did not have upgraded drink package associated with her seapass card. If I had not would have run up a large bill. I paid for the upgrade via the Celebrity web site weeks in advance of the voyage. I was required to go to guest relations, wait in Long line to straiten the mess they created. * Celebrity web site and the documents forwarded by the travel agent were dissimilar. never could locate on the Celebrity web site the specifics of: pre-paid items via the travel agent, or that I paid for on the Celebrity web site. Needed to patch the 2 together and hope they contained the total of all selections. * Online selections for pre-paid gratuities, drink pkgs, wifi that were selected weeks before sailing, were Not reflected online web nor app. * Celebrity app never same as printed daily planner on ship. Rooms, times for activities listed wrong on app vs. Print I.e. Never had menus for any dining venue. * Ran out of coke zero, then diet coke about ½ way thru voyage * Cancelled movie w/o notice * Venues unsuitable- several activities & games were hosted in ships areas with only 12 seats available. of the 12 seats, several empty seats were saved by passengers thereby creating disagreeable encounters when other people tried to be seated. attendees vastly exceeded 12 seats causing passages to be blocked to other passengers trying to proceed to different ship areas. * Specialty restaurant Tuscan grill was terrible (contrary to cruise critic reviews; maybe just the crew of the Ship?) 40% discount for specialty dining offered approx.. ½ way thru voyage which aggravated passengers who paid 100% for the same dinner. * Qsine Le Petit chef led to food poisoning were my wife projectile vomited during the next 12 hours * The Wifi for which I paid for, dropped a connection at least hourly * Three Holes were torn into 1 of our brand new baggage * At end cruise, we were given in the stateroom the wrong luggage tags to disembark @ ft. Lauderdale. Those Tags would have sent our luggage erroneously to Ft. Lauderdale airport never to be seen again. * FINALLY, With over a 1,00 passengers trying to disembark together, at the Ft. Lauderdale gangway I was prevented from departing the ship. blocked my exit with a security officer & told by the deck officer that the ship did not have credit card on file for me. the ship deck officer said the only credit card on file was for my wife. the deck officer said there was a $500 spa bill for my wife. the Celebrity officer said I had to go back into the ship down 2 decks, thru 1,000 departing passengers to Guest Relations to fix. I used a lot of colorful language to say that’s ridiculous that a credit card was not on file for me & only for my wife as I know the travel agent puts a card on file & I verified that a credit card was on file weeks before on the Celebrity Web site AND authorized it to be used by BOTH passengers(Mr. & Mrs.)in the cabin. Now on day 12, disembarking the ship says no credit card on file!! I offered to give them a credit card or number at the gangplank but they refused. N.B. crew stated card on file for Wife AND spa charge for Wife. So, why did crew even need a credit card for me?I should have walked off BUT instead went back into the ship, down 2 decks, past 100s of passengers, many of which witnessed the entire embarrassing episode unfold at the gangway where I was prevented from disembarking by security. Probably more problems... Read Less

First I would like to state i rated a 1 because there were no minus buttins to select. We chose this cruise to celebrate our wedding honeymoon because of the destination from Port Canaveral to Turks &Caicos, and to Amber Cove D.R. Unfortunately this didnt happen and we ended up in Nassau Bahamas. The itinerary was switched after we were disembarked on the second day. The ship had mechanical issues our balcony door to our suite was broke and therefore impacted the air conditioning and refrigerator in our room. Secondly, prior to boarding our ship we had to carry our luggage to the top floor of the ship ourselves as we were informed Carnival dismisses their porters at 2pm daily. We did not get what we paid for nor did we enjoy this cruise. The staff seemed to not care and are powerless to try and accomodate for our losses. Carnival ruined my honeymoon. If your lokking for luxury this is not the ship nor the cruiseline you want to select. My husband and I are so sorry we didnt cruise with Norwegian as we normally do. Read Less

We picked this cruise to see Alaska, especially the inside passage and Ketchikan. Although scheduled, the cruise skipped both. That was extremely disappointing. Princess did nothing to make up for it. The staff were excellent, friendly and efficient, especially in the bars and restaurants. The food varied from good to poor, but there was a lot of it. The drink “packages” were overpriced, I don’t recommend them. The room service menu was surprisingly limited. The Coral Princess ship was nice. We had taken this cruise before on other ships, and the ports and shore excursions were excellent, but on this cruise we took no excursions primarily because of the bad weather. Embarkation was easy and quick, but disembarkation was a nightmare. Customs was easy, baggage collection was easy, but the line to get a taxi took two and a half hours! Standing in the cold with 2,000 of my best friends for that length of time was miserable. Overall, of ~20 cruises I’ve taken, this was the poorest. Good luck. Read Less

I chose princess as I had previously cruised with them in 2013 on the ruby princess by far the most amazing cruise I have ever done. I loved the itinerary and have always wanted to cruise with Princess up to the barrier reef. The majestic princess looked amazing new clean we were very excited to be on the ship. This was a huge disappointment the ship is catered for an Asian market so the food was of the lower standard The entertainment was boring and the staff unfriendly. Also we felt like we were on a moving nursing home everyone on the ship was so old it was truly a geriatric cruise even my 71-year-old mother felt out of place. The entertainment at night was so dull that they had a string duo playing at 8 pm 9 pm in the main atrium. There is also no place to dance no dedicated place to dance only in the atrium where all the ballroom dances with frustrated if you got in their way. We paid a premium price for this cruise and were highly disappointed the only thing that redeemed it was the amazing itinerary I’m not sure I want to cruise princess again which makes me feel sad because the best cruise I ever did was on the Princess ship. The food was terrible just terrible my carnival cruise was better food,Actually even the p&o and MSC was better. So disappointed such an Asian ship it does not belong in the Australian market its really catered to the asian market. It was a floating nursing home a geriatric flop with bad food and boring entertainment the only good entertainment was zinger band they were amazing. . Read Less

I was really looking forward for this vacation, but it became terrible after booking this cruise. The ship was small, old and there was really nothing to do onboard. They didn’t even have the pools available to swim. I have been in different cruises before and I figured it was alright since the port destinations would make up for it. I was wrong, the excursions available were very unorganized. Staff was rude and unfriendly. There was no planned activities. Staff was not knowledgeable on instructions. They would announce meeting points at a certain time and they would be late. Food was terrible. Not much to do in she ship. I was traveling with 7 family members and we all felt the same way. I tried expressing my concerns to the cruise staff, but it was a waste of time. They simply didn't care. Never traveling in this cruise line again. Read Less

We typically go on 2 to 3 cruises a year. Normally, we use Norwegian and Royal Caribbean. We chose Carnival this cruise because we went with a group of 6 friends. The embarkation and entertainment were the only things on our cruise that was not a disappointment. We bought the premium drink package which is a terrible RIP off! One ounce liquor servings only. The bartenders were very slow, oftentimes rude and not willing to make anything but their standard limited menu drinks. I asked for a Sammy Sosa drink. The bartender became indignant and refused to make the drink. I asked why. He replied it had too much liquor in it and that wasn't allowed. I said it only has two liquors in it. I showed him on his drink card a rum punch Carnival was offering that had 3 liquors in it. Then I showed him a drink of the day Carnival was offering called an MF er that had 6 liquors in it. He then proceeded to tell me Carnival only serves or makes drinks that are on the drink menu. I pointed out that a multitude of drinks they were serving were not listed! Such as, seven & seven, gin & tonic, screw drivers, etc. I asked for a Jameson neat , the bartender served it in a 1 once shot glass. I asked for 2 of them, he said I had to wait 5 minutes to order another drink. Although, a man at the end of the bar( which the bartender called by name ) ordered a Jack Daniels neat and the bartender gave him a 12 ounce rock glass full of Jack Daniels! Not very classy in my opinion after all the fabrications he gave me! My wife and I went to guest services and asked to speak to the bar manager. I told him our experience with his bartender. Also,I told him, we paid $600 for 2 premium drink packages. He backed up the bartender and his disrespectful actions and proceeded to give me the run around. He said we're here to make money! I explained to him I was in the food and beverage business 50 years! I said there are approximately 34 shots in a liter. So at ounce servings and $8 per drink, Carnival allows most guests (but some special people get much more, not sure how to become one of these people) Carnival makes $ 272 per bottle which is approximately 9 times the cost of the bottle. I told him that's more than making money... that's called making a killing! He asked for our room number. Nothing ever came of that diversion! The Lido Buffet food was of poor quality with little variety. Many times reused the next day under a different name. The Sapphire restuarant service was very slow with a poor selection, hardly any better than the buffet. All 8 people in our group received cold food! Non smoking areas were not enforced. The restrooms were not very easy to locate and not cleaned very often. Read Less

From booking (confusing and expensive add-one), communicating (no replies when I sent my 3 or 4 email questions), mediocre food (nothing exciting or delicious and desserts were gross), long lines for drinks, insane cost of internet, overcrowding (constant chaos) , small pool with terrible TECHNO music the entire time except for occasional 45 min Jamaican band) missing our main island and doing circles all day because the captain didn't want to take us anywhere else! Same cruise ship a week prior rerouted to COZUMEL -but not us!! Bathroom toilets overflowed the first half-hour. My cabin phone was broken. Casino was disgusting and smokers everywhere. Observation area bar should have had the live music because it is a large wasted area for karoake. We couldnt understand the announcements because of the thick accents of the cruise director. Missing the main stop should have warranted a credit back to our expense. Terrible experience. WE WILL NEVER go again. Our "romantic" 10th anniversary was ruined! Read Less

We chose this cruise for our honeymoon because of the raving reviews about the service and luxury of the ship and Seabourn. We were highly disappointed. Our room was probably the worst on the ship and this may be the main reason for our disappointment. 843, next to a service area and below the pool bar service area. Crew started work everyday at 4 am. It was unreal as we woke up to horrific noise of dragging pool chairs and other noise we could not identify, every morning at 4 am. I am not exaggerating. We had to call and beg for the noise to stop and for work to start at a reasonable time. Seabourn did not care and did absolutely nothing to help us get rest or move us to an available cabin (the ship has vacant cabins). No one EVER returned our calls as we were told would happen or do anything to assist or make our stay better. I worked in hotels and resorts for over 15 years and there are many, many things that could have been done to make our stay more enjoyable. Our bathroom smelled like urine and items from the previous guest were still in the room including hair in the bath tub and shower. It was actually quite nasty as we were tracking where the long black hairs were moving around our bathroom each day as our room was supposedly cleaned. Our room attendant was really sub par and didn’t not respond to our requests. She actually asked us to leave 90 minutes before we were to vacate our room on the last day so someone could strip our bed. Come one! I mean we were already awake most of the nights as all of the luggage on the 8th floor was moved via the service elevator next to our room, and don’t forget the regular 4 am shift that was the loudest of the entire trip because Seabourn simply didn’t care as we were leaving in the morning. The coffee shop was wonderful! The Sushi restaurant food and service was wonderful and we ate there for lunch almost everyday. The Restaurant was excellent as well, for food and service. The entertainment wasn’t for anyone in our age range but it was excellent for the majority of the passengers in the 60+ age group. We knew this booking and it was okay because we wanted a relaxing honeymoon and quiet time together. Lots of puzzles, crosswords, and needlepoint workshops to do if you like that sort of thing. Seabourn could have selected better ports to visit as we were disappointed about the industrial working ports we visited on this cruise. More options for Marina days as there was only one and it was cancelled due to wind. I understand that most senior citizens may not be interested in marina day activities but since the rest of the voyage was really planned for them, have some options for active adults. The gym was small and had extremely limited options. We would have liked a peloton bike or two to use in the gym since there were no spin or fly wheel classes (or room for any). We did workout in the gym every day and did a 60 minute run off ship at the ports where we felt were safe places to run. Happy to be home and to get a good and full night sleep. Read Less

I chose this cruise because it knocked out many places in a short amount of time. We had never been to europe and were eager to use the help of a cruise to get us to various places. However, the ship was small, overcrowded, and the guest services team was terrible. The food was decent, the pool was terrible, salt water and freezing, hot tubs were closed one of the days for unknown reasons. The casino was the saving grace. It was a long cruise, with a poor guest services staff. The excursions were also poorly planned. We would have been better off finding our own excursions. Poor communication from the excursions teams on how we would get to destination, should we pack snacks, what is the exact itinerary. Cabin was fine, we had a balcony, so did not feel stuffy. Not a good idea for a honeymoon. Most people were couples celebrating 50th birthdays. Read Less

I have cruised more than10 times on 3 different cruise lines and NCL and the Breakaway were the biggest disappointment yet. The food was ridiculously bad, even in the specialty restaurants. The steak in Carney’s was so tough you could barely cut it with a knife. The Brazilian steakhouse was awful. All of the meat was grossly overlooked and had no flavor. The salad bar barely had any salad. The Italian Restaurant was the highlight of our cruise. The buffet was terrible and had very few options. You very seldom ever see any employees, and definitely do not see ship maintenance or cleaning happening. Waiting over 30 minutes to get a drink at any bar is unacceptable. We complained and were given strawberries and a bottle of wine, like that fixed anything. We met numerous other people on the boat that had the same opinion. The adult pool area looked like it was a remake from a party at the playboy mansion. The Breakaway takes Carnival’s reputation of a Party boat to a whole new level. The Spice H2O area at the back was where we ended hanging out during the day. My hubby smokes Cigars and asked an employee to please empty the ash trays as they were all running over. She had an attitude but finally did it. There was trash, empty cups and filth rolling all around on the deck. The cigar bar had no ventilation and you could not even see across the room. When we disembarked yesterday, there were approximately 1000 people waiting on transportation booked through NCL to the airport. There were no buses and we ended up standing out in the heat in mass chaos for an hour before transportation arrived. Two words: NEVER AGAIN Read Less

We are experienced cruisers. We got together on a cruise ship. We even got married on a cruise ship. We chose this cruise because NCL always seems to have specials and we wanted to give them a try. The Sun seemed comparable to Carnival Pride. Moreover, the ship was leaving around the time of our first year anniversary. I really wanted to like this ship and this line. However, save your money, folks. This is the worst cruise ship we have ever been on and for the first time ever....we were bored. Let's start with the first day. People were so sloppy drunk, I thought someone was going to fall overboard. And the worst part? The drinks and most bartenders were terrible. The bartenders couldn't even remember drink orders. One walked away...out of the bar...after we ordered. The food in the main dining room and the breakfast was not good at all and it sits out way too long. Crunchy pancakes, really crunchy waffles, wilted bacon, etc. The salad dressings all tasted like mustard. The hollandaise sauce tasted like mustard. The pizza was burnt at the bottom. Stick with the food at the pub. We saw our housekeeper once. He never really introduced himself. In fact, the customer service severely lacks on this ship. It is almost like the staff doesn't care. Don't go to Guest Services if you have a question. They will not know the answer or will give you the wrong answer. Our tickets for our excursions were delivered AFTER the excursion. We had to go to the excursion desk to get them. Also, they changed our itinerary due to Hurricane Dorian which I completely understand. However, it doesn't appear that they are refunding our port fees for Grand Bahamas or Great Stirrup Cay. When you ask Guest Services they don't know anything which basically means no. The casino? We are big casino players. NCL won't be getting our money. Their minimums are too high. Their slots don't even let you connect with a game. It was awful. The specialty restaurants had great food. La Cucina had just splendid Italian that really hit the spot. The steakhouse is a must try. The drawback to these specialty restaurants? The service was poor. We had to repeatedly ask for drinks before we got them. We had to wait for 20 min for our cards to be returned and almost missed a show we wanted to see. There was a plus. The steakhouse did find out it was our anniversary and did a nice small cake. It was a really nice touch. We will be reluctant to try NCL, but if we do it will not be the Sun. Read Less

Pros = 1) Service at the dinner - Waiter always friendly 2) Service and cleanliness on our Room 3) Pre paid internet was 4gb for 4 devices and it was cheap comparing with other cruises that I´ve made 4) Pre paid digital pictures was very cheap. I got in the end a pen drive with 120 pictures taken during the cruise and it costed 90 euros. During the cruise, they were charging 30 euros for EACH picture 5) Pizza was very good Cons = 1) Overall the bar staff was not trained at all. First night at the Cruise, I ordered a bottle of Champagne, the lady came after 10 minutes with the Bottle saying that it was the first time that she opened a Champagne bottle and tried to close it with the Cork again. 2) The food at the buffet was terrible and always crowded. It was always stressfull getting food, find a table 3) The cruise only offers free Water (when other lines offer Iced Tea, etc). The places to get drinks were dirty and some of them had only Coffe and not hot milk 4) The portion size of the dinner was terrible ... everyone at our table asked always 2-3 main courses because it was impossible to have food enough with only 1 main dish. 5) The shows during the evening at the theater were very poor. Comparing with other cruises that I´ve been, it was by far the worse. I even slept because if was boring. 6) The overall entertainment during the cruise was very bad... other cruises that I´ve been, have a Cruise Director that cheers up the entire ship with lot of enterntainment and parties. At the Preziosa, and I dont even know if we have similar role during the ship. 7) Basic stuff like NUTELLA... it was not offered during the breakfast for my Daugther, but it was available if asked.. so every time i needed to go to the bar and ask for Nutella and the waiter passed me a few nutella hidden like he was giving me drugs. 8) The overall service was so bad that I went to the guest services and asked to remove the service charge. I then paid good service at the dinner and room directly to the waiters. 9) I´ve been in many different Cruise companies before and this was the first that THEY DONT OFFER FREE ICE CREAM. All other have free 24h ice cream. They charge at Preziosa for everything. Worst cruise experience I ever had, and i will never get on a MSC ship again. Read Less

Awful experience! I had my body covered in bedbug bites two days after getting on the boat! It ruined my holidays! They downgraded us to a different room which by the way they said it had also been cleaned off bedbugs! They washed my clothes and ruined quite a few of them! They said they had to spray our shoes and sent them all back in our suitcases all together in a ball without any care! I couldn’t sleep for 3 nights as my body was extremely itchy. I couldn’t take any photos as my body was covered in bites. I had to keep wearing the same clothes as I couldn’t wear clothes that showed my shoulders because of all the bites. It was an absolute disaster! I reported it to NCL and have heard nothing back yet. I would not recommend this ship to anyone unless I was shown a bedbug free certification from Pest Control. We are Platinum members on NCL and have cruised on many of their ships. The Star is by far the worst ship I have ever been on. We normally sail in the Haven but this ship does not have a Haven so we booked an Owners Suite. First off the room was freezing cold the entire time and we were told we could not turn off the air just turn it up. We had it turned up to the hottest it would go and it still blew freezing cold air. The room was clean but weird layout and no balcony! No balcony for an owners suite seems odd to me. The room has floor to ceiling windows on the front of the ship but a big pole and partial wall block what would be a nice view. The service is spotty at best. Our room steward and Butler were good and did their best but restaurant and other staff such as bartenders were terrible. We had booked reservations for the specialty restaurants but when we showed up we were told we would have to wait. Both times we waited close to an hour past our reservation time! Why make a reservation? The only food for dinner we had that was good was in the Teppanyaki Restaurant. All other "Specialty" restaurants are terrible. Food and service. I took a look at the Buffet but would not touch anything there. Entertainment is awful as well. Very bad wedding singers at best. No movies on the TV just a loop of the same six shows played over and over. Very short stops at the ports and cruisers from at least 2 or 3 other ships at the same time making it very hard to enjoy the small towns. The worst thing was when my husband and I went to the spa for massages. My husband has Vitiligo which is a harmless autoimmune disease that affects the pigment in your skin. The massage therapist came in to the treatment room where my husband was laying waiting for his massage and told him she wouldn't massage him because of his skin!! You would think a massage therapist on a ship of thousands of people would be better trained. So insulting and rude to my husband. My advice is skip this ship if you are planning on visiting the Greek Islands. Read Less

We booked this originally when we were supposed to go to Havana. When that got cancelled, we should have taken our money back when offered instead of taking the half price cruise. Big mistake. With the hurricane coming, they ended up changing out itinerary again. Despite this, they wouldn't let us cancel. We were stuck going to the Bahamas, the very same place getting devastated by the hurricane... The ship itself is the oldest in the fleet. We were willing to take it to Havana, but it is unsuitable for any other journey in my opinion. The amenities are few and far between. The one tiny pool was full on the one day we were "cruising" (I will get to this later) despite the ship being half full. The food was not up to the standards I've come to expect from Royal in both the windjammer and the fancy dinners. Now onto the worst experience part: Day 1: We get on the ship easily enough, get some drinks, go to the windjammer. Here is where the fun begins. We were accosted 2 times to buy their steak house dinner in a matter of 10 mins while trying to enjoy our lunch. I don't know about you, but I like to be left alone when eating my meals. Moving along to later that afternoon. We are in our tiny cabin resting and we finally get our find our bags which were delivered to the wrong room. My wife goes to take a shower and the bathroom floods. I go to the front desk to ask for help and to possibly move to another cabin (since the cruise was half full). They call maintence which responds quickly enough, but we were told that they were still waiting on passengers. "We don't know if we will have any open rooms". The cruise was half full, they knew it was going to be half full. We didn't ask for an upgrade, just a lateral move. They never followed up. At dinner, the food was underwhelming and we were accosted a third time that day to reserve their steakhouse dinner. We still hadn't left port that night because we were loading supplies for the Bahamas. Fine with us. We were happy they were making an effort to provide aide. If we only knew what that meant for the passengers. That night in the AM the ship was rocking and rolling on the waves as they went full speed to the Bahamas. I don't get seasick, but that is difficult to sleep through. Day 2: We are anchored outside the Grand Bahama Island the whole day offloading supplies. This is causing the whole ship to shake as they gun the engines to keep us straight. So we were really "cruising" at all. It was blazing hot and the pool was packed full. No wind to enjoy from a moving ship. The other passengers were all malcontent as well from being forced on this ship causing a very tense atmosphere. Thank god their spa was run by a third party because it was the only enjoyable hour of the cruise. At lunch, for the fourth time we are accosted by the steakhouse. My wife polietly said, thanks, but we already know about this, we are not interested. The guy starts to walk away and then turns around to give us another pitch! I with my mouth full of food, put my hand up to stop him. He decided this was a very rude action and made a snide comment about waving at him. That just the icing on the cake. It confirmed to us that not even the crew wanted any part of this cruise. Dinner was okay (besides the shaking mentioned earlier) but they were missing ingredients for my wife's entree and they didn't seem to know about it or care to inform her before she ordered it. The show was good, but since everyone was malcontent, the crowd was very lifeless. Day 3: Port of Nassau We were not interested in getting any excursions due to the hurricane so we got off the ship briefly to call home. This is the only time the pool was empty, so we were able to enjoy a relaxing swim. Dinner was actually good for once. We didn't really take offense to anything that day because we grew used to the standards of this non-vacation. We did order an excursion in Miami that would take up part of the day and drop us right at the terminal to fly away. Of course this was cancelled, leaving us 8 hrs of nothing to do in Miami. Once again, we were just used to the awfulness. Customer Service: We logged our complaints with their customer service line. They didn't care. Just told us, nothing we can do. Well there is something we can do, and that is not book a cruise with Royal again who don't care about their customers or their experience. Read Less

Our cruise experience was doomed from the start. About a week before our cruise hurricane Dorian started forming. As our sale date approached we kept a close eye on the projected path and Carnival‘s website. As it became clear that hurricane Dorian was going to affect the Bahamas we regularly checked in to make sure that our sailing was still happening and we were going to be going to our ports. Our first day on board was relatively OK. We had clear skies and the lunch buffet was actually really good. That’s the only positive statement I have for the entire cruise. Dinner time rolls around and the dining room was horrible. The bread was under baked . Both my steak and their signature dessert (melting cake)was over cooked. The first night the boat was extremely rough. I had hoped that that would be the only rough seas we would experience. Day two was a day at sea. About halfway through the day the captain comes on and informs us that we were not going to make it to princess Cay and that the port will be substituted with a trip to Key West for a half a day. Key West was OK but definitely not the Bahamas. I had hoped to find a beach only to find out that Key West does not offer beaches. While in Key West my sister calls me and informs me that the Carnival corporate website has updated stating that our trip to Nassau for the next day has now been canceled. We went to the service desk and asked what port we would be going to instead of Nassau. Mind you Nassau was the whole reason we booked this cruise. Absolutely love going to Aquaventure at Atlantis. So we were very disappointed to find out that we were not gonna make it to Atlantis. The service desk denied that the port had been canceled and told us that they couldn’t speak to what their corporate website said. They lied to us. As the ship pulled away from Key West the captain came on and informed us that our trip to Nassau had been canceled and no other ports were available so we were going to be getting a third day at sea. I booked a cruise to the Bahamas ! Not a cruise to float at sea for four days and get a half day in Key West. On top of being stuck on that boat our captain insisted on finding every possible patch of rough seas possible. I couldn’t sleep at night because the boat was rocking so bad. Pool lost half of its water from spilling over hitting waves. And the Lido deck buffet we sat there and watch plates fly across the floor. On our final day at sea the captain informed us that there was a chance we would not be able to return to Jaxport on Thursday. The plan initially was to spend an extra day at sea until the port reopened. Dinner time on our last night at sea the captain comes on to inform us that we will be docking in Port Canaveral and receiving shuttle bus rides back to Jacksonville. It’s really sad when we arrived at port Canaveral customs and border protection waived us on through saying we didn’t take a cruise to anywhere so we did not have to declare anything. Our cruise director found it funny to joke about how we were on a cruise to somewhere but he didn’t know where. Carnival really let us down. They should have canceled our sailing knowing that they were not going to be enough ports available to substitute adequately. But they wanted their money. To add insult to injury the whole reason they docked us in Port Canaveral was so that they wouldn’t have to delay their next sailing. I called the customer service line after we got home and they refused offer us any compensation. I always knew in the contract that they could change ports but I never expected them to treat us so poorly. So our beautiful beach vacation to the Bahamas turned into a week of rough seas, never seeing a beach, and never putting on our bathing suits. We took a cruise nowhere and didn’t even make it back to our original destination. At this point I will never cruise with Carnival again. Read Less

It started off great. I was going to sail on the very ship I have admired for years from my balcony as a resident of Miami. The embarkation procedure was seamless. The cabin was very nice. The steward was very friendly and did a nice job. Then the 1st lesson started as 1 of the many sales pitches got me to purchase the upgrade to the seafood fine dining restaurant on night 1. Stale bread and frozen butter to start, minuscule over frozen crab portions next, and a simply horrible meal to . finish. Write that one off...not here to complain. Next, we sent out 4 shirts and 5 dresses to get the wrinkles of packing out using the laundry package that I paid 30.00 for. The next day our cabin steward arrives at our door with his boss to let me know they ripped the collar buttons off of a brand new 100 shirt and offered me champagne as a token of apology. I didn't accept since my accomplice doesn't drink and it would have gone to waste for the most part. The rest of our ironed items were still very wrinkled so we never used that service again. No worries...I'm there to have fun. Write off #2. Next, I spent over 5 hours with various members of the "customer service" desk to get the free internet working on my phone since there was a hurricane pointing at my home and I wanted to be available for family. 2 IT (internet technology) techs, 1 multimedia tech, and about 6-8 different others all couldn't get it to work on a very common apple XS phone. The internet on the ship was horrible as I heard from many others. For the rest of the cruise, the food at Roy's 3 restaurants was very good, the buffets were pretty average good, the pizza was a great idea, and the ship dinners (we went twice) was very acceptable. But the staff was definitely not overly friendly. Most of them didn't understand english very well, which is kind of odd for a ship that sails out of Miami...and Spanish wasn't their language of choice either. To wrap it all up, the customer service desk didn't want to offer me anything for the bad meal, the damaged shirt, the internet that didn't work, or the the poor laundry service. But they did however offer me a refund of the gratuities that I was charged for all of the people who are there to make my experience a good one. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY ABSURD AND WAS THE PERFECT REFLECTION OF A COMPANY THAT DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THEIR EMPLOYEES. I absolutely refused to screw those hard working people and was given a card to email "customer service" in Ft. Lauderdale I'm guessing. The auto responder said I'd get a response in 7-10 business days...I wait...nothing. Then I called them and get placed on hold for almost 2 hours before I hang up in disgust. I call back and tell the receptionist about the incident and she promises to get it to a supervisor. The next day I get an email stating that they are sorry for all of my inconvenience and offered me 30.00 off of my next cruise and didn't even address my issues! That was it!!! And the funny part is that I was a rated player in the casino...I'm sure that they'll want me back. I'LL NEVER CRUISE MSC AGAIN. Read Less

We wanted a cruise experience and the Bahamas. We sadly were disappointed with Hurricane Dorian. We had travel insurance but our travel agent suggested we go cause NCL made no changes to the itinerary yet the night before. We decided to go and not cancel cause we expected at worst we would reroute to 3 other ports. One day was not enough notice to cancel everything we had set up to go even with Hurricane issues we expected we still have fun. Well 1 day in Mexico in Cozumel and a half day was nowhere near what we had in mind nor worth the cost we payed for Bahamas. Esp since My husband had been once with his parents as a teen. . The food was awful no selection for a picky eater. The specialty restaurants were lacking majorly. The buffets were edible if drunk. Same stuff daily almost, sadly not much choice. Not usually a drinker but between all the disappointments. Thankfully it was inclusive drinks....... The pool being closed 50% of time, hot tub packed and the streaming package I paid for not working after day one. I lost business not being able to use my phone and check in on work i lost a few big investors, the 10$ line was a joke. The excursion booking by phone app accidental, we couldn't get refunded. Guest services were no help anytime we went there. They didn't cancel our trip or give any info prior to boarding that we go to Cozumel... My husband had been there and I had no wish to go there, but we had boarded the boat and didn't get any info to were we reroute until another cruiser told us on the ship not even our itinerary told us till the next day. Very disappointed to say the least the have no offered any discount on a trip to the Bahamas or a partial refund! I know that Mexico is way cheaper to visit then the Bahamas and we didn't port 3 different places Nor did i even get to see the beach once. We did one excursion dolphin encounter, it was the only thing decent and we didn't receive our photos by email as we should've. They had switched our group with another's they couldn't find our photos, when tried to look and purchase them. They finally found them under a different groups number! We bought them and it was a week later I had to contact them to send them again. Overall we had a trip we will never forget and we hope to make it to the Bahamas when the poor island rebuilds. Not sure I will be going NCL We almost booked Disney even though, we don't have kids. They had 11 pools and 3 adult areas and pools. We may have at least got some swimming pool time and hot tub time while stuck on the boat for 6 days when supposed be 4 days. The nightmare getting home was another story very disappointed about the lack of updating and knowledge they never provided us during the chaos. The sun would've been fine had we ported 3 days where we planned. we could've dealt with the other issues, we had in general but honestly for our first cruise nothing went right! Room tenant was awesome remembered our names was very diligent and professional. The gift shop was pathetic and the Spa was overpriced for the deep tissue couples massage we received. I wasn't even sore afterwards as should be. Not impressed at all. We are smokers it was windy and raining off and on they only moved smoking down a level one time to keep the wind and rain less awful. We had a balcony and this was honestly the best part of the boat. However we were under the pool area, it was very loud as they picked the chairs up and sprayed the upper deck barley got any sleep! Our 7-day Mediterranean cruise was fantastic. We left from Venice after staying there overnight in August (HEAVY tourist season - glad we didn't stay longer). We checked in at like 11:30 (technically embarkation started at 12), gave them our bags, then walked back to Venice to get lunch and spend a little more time there. I didn't expect things to be happening on the ship before we departed - would have been nice to know but it probably wouldn't have changed anything. Embarkation a few hours later was super quick and painless and our luggage was just arriving at our room which was nice. Disembarkation was similarly easy and relaxed because we had a train to catch to Florence at 11am and we got to stay onboard to enjoy one last breakfast (in a free restaurant). We had the Ultimate Beverage Package - a wonderful and key addition, and the 3-meal specialty dining, where we went to the French, Italian, and hibachi restaurants. The French one (the "fancy" one) was easily the best and nicest, though the other two also had good food and experiences. The bars on the top decks got SO crowded during the afternoons when the outside crowd was at its peak so you had to wait several minutes for whatever drink you wanted, no matter how simple or complex. I think it'd be nice if they could somehow figure ways to have an expedited line for simple drinks (beer, wine, premade/two-ingredient cocktails, etc). Despite making TONS of cocktails everyday, I give so much credit to the bartenders who were all really great and consistently provided great service with a smile. Same goes for all the servers and everybody else onboard - service and cheerfulness was amazing! Drinks would be quite expensive a la carte without the beverage package - I feel like we got our money's worth with quantity and variety, but even so, it would be a significantly worse experience without the beverage package, even if it may have even ended up slightly cheaper. The entertainment crew and nightly shows were all amazing and so fun and well done. We loved seeing the entertainment crew everyday across the ship and interacting with them in different activities. We did trivia a lot and for some reason it was very geography-based (I.e. which country/sea/etc. is the biggest/smallest/etc.) but I suppose they wanted to be accessible to all crowds, even if it wasn't super diverse of a trivia experience 1-2 times a day throughout the cruise. And it was still fun playing, especially with the great hosts. Easily my biggest gripe with the on-board experience was that I paid so much for the all-inclusive cruise and it felt like I was being sold on extras all cruise long, whether that be photos or CruiseNext deposits or the duty-free store or even bingo. Why not even offer a single free bingo for fun??? (I guess because it's obvious a lot of people will in fact pay for it...?) Don't even get me started on the "free" health or well-being seminars... After curiously staying for a seminar immediately following a raffle (the main way they rope you in), I regretted being guilted into staying for a 15-20 minute strong sales pitch for an expensive product by the fitness guru onboard. My only other main gripe was dining, specifically the chaos that was the main buffet dining hall and the unimpressive/occasional lack of vegetarian options. The Garden Cafe buffet was very big, but somehow not big enough. I can't entirely blame NCL for it (unless it's a ruse to sell more dining packages...?), but we very quickly learned that if we continued going there instead of the restaurants (even if just the free ones), we would have had a worse overall experience - not at all relaxing to eat at the buffet, even with the good selection and variety. And speaking of which, I expected the inclusivity and variety of the cruise to at least have strong vegetarian options (and hopefully even some vegan ones), but the latter would have been very difficult to do consistently and even the former seemed to be occasionally lacking, not necessarily in the buffet but notably in the restaurants. The only other thing to write about was shore excursions and we did one everyday through NCL, which definitely made it easier and more convenient. In fact one port call had to get cancelled due to weather and we immediately got refunded for our paid excursion, no effort necessary. All the excursions ranged from very good to really great, and the local tour guides were all great. There was a good variety of options and even though the tours were larger size than ideal (20-30+) and some ports (I'm looking at you Santorini) were really crowded, they still all ended up being great experiences. Very disappointed in the NCL Escape cruise to Bermuda. Smoking is allowed in the casino which located at the center atrium of the ship. Smoke is smelled throughout the ship on ALL levels because of this. Shame on NCL for subjecting us to second hand smoke. Smoking is also allowed at certain outside bars located directly adjacent to the children's water park. Children should not have to smell smoke and be subjected to cancer. The overall service staff was rude and not cordial. A bartender at the H20 bar from India yelled at me for not picking up my mixed drinks on time. The guest services person gave me incorrect information on when the time zone change would occur. The NCL mobile app had incorrect information that we were going to be in Hamilton for three days and not the dockyard. Fire alarm testing at 10 am during the breakfast rush is unacceptable. This should have been tested during the afternoon when most are off the ship on excursions. I was excited to take a tour of the bridge and see behind the scenes areas like the kitchen, laundry and engine room like I did on other cruise lines, however, NCL has the nerve to charge $79 per person for this tour of their ship. This is disgraceful. Not having a pitcher of water or bucket of ice in the room, as well as no chocolate at night or towel bunny is cheap and disgraceful. Charging $7 a bottle for water when I have the all you can drink package up to $15 per drink is also disgraceful. Nickel and diming me for port charges for drinks while at NY should be picked up by NCL. Coffee should be served at the tables at the buffet so I don't have to navigate back to my table with piping hot coffee through hundreds of people walking in all different directions. The food and pastries at the buffet and most of the specialty restaurants was subpar with most pasties tasting like they were mass produced and from frozen cartons. The waiters did not show us the proper attention like other cruise lines where you had dedicated waiters. Maybe because their tip is already included! Many of the waiters or waitresses did not understand English and got our drink orders wrong. There were also few food carvings or any other special food nights. The seafood extravaganza was a joke with only peel your own shrimp. No crab legs or anything. The specialty seafood restaurant waitress said not to order the lobster I was craving because its frozen and many people are said to be returning it due to poor taste. The sushi appetizer at the Cagney Steakhouse caused intestinal distress for a day and half. Many of the entertainment shows were sold out immediately as we boarded the ship. The comedy club size is a joke holding about 75 people with a ship of over 4,000 passengers. This show should have been held in the main theater so more people can watch and not be subjected to standing in the rear against a wall. The bar in the comedy club was also closed during a show preventing many people from ordering drinks. Theater showings should be after 10 pm so it doesn't interfere or conflict with my open seating for dinner which NCL prides themselves on. NCL cruise line was very disappointing. I will be going back to Royal Caribbean cruises where they treat their customers with respect and the food is always good. Read Less

My Fiance bought this cruise for my 50th birthday. We departed from Singapore on 25/08/19. Singapore is a magnificent place by the way. The first thing we noticed was that the ship was not the gleaming white vessel depicted in the brochures. On deck 12 there are large windows which are held in by steel bracelets. These brackets in places were rusted through and effectively were holding nothing. The carpet outside our room was marked and stained and the hallway smelt musty. There was also an odour of raw sewerage which remained inside and outside for the rest of the cruise. This smell was disgusting. The carpet in our room was frayed, wet and musty. The carpet had to be lifted and dried with a blower. The shower had active mould growing around the top. The shower vent was rusted as was the outer wall. Fittings were missing off the toilet and the toilet brush was disgusting. At night our cabin door squeaked constantly to the point that we had to jam paper in it to quieten it. In some toilets cisterns were not secured to the walls. One tap was covered in duct tape to stop a leak. Some of the doors in public toilets were swollen from moisture and smelt bad. Every day they would incinerate rubbish which would cause black soot to fall all over the back of the ship including in your drinks, food and clothing. All of the windows on the ship were filthy - even at the start of the cruise. The cabin walls are incredibly thin and you can hear everything going on the next cabin. Activities are tailored toolder people. The pool is tiny. Damien Mullin (Elvis) was very good as was the comedian Stephen Whiteley. The rest of the entertainment was so so. There was plenty of food but the same thing was served many different ways. Eg todays roast became tomorrow's stir fry the sandwiches on the third day. The staff were friendly but even their enthusiasm does not not make up for the tired old tub they work on. The ship had been dry docked in Singapore for 14 days for maintenance so it must have been bad before. Read Less

We have travelled with MSC many times and have always been satisfied, however, when the service model changed recently it seems so has our opinion. The embarkation process was a complete joke, keeping people outside the terminal for hours in the blazing sun pushing heavy suitcases. From then on it went one way, down! As we had no choice but to pay the service charge we expected the service to be questionable and I am afraid we were right. I found some of the crew to be rude even though I am a gold member.. not that I expect preferential treatment but I do expect to be teated with respect.. This I have to say was not the case as the guy who serviced (ha ha) our cabin went into the wardrobe and moved my clothes. This absolutely was a no go for me so once again I complained. The Manhattan bar on deck 5 constantly served us corked wine with the waiters not sure what that meant, they clearly had not been trained before being placed behind the bar. Filthy tables in the buffet restaurant, food on the floor and old food piled high in the terrace area added to our disgust. The food in the evening was not great, served cold and beef not appearing on many occasions. The waiting time to embark and disembark was so bad and a constant battle that on the last day a fight broke out on deck 5. I have to say I was surprised it had not happened sooner. It was quiet frightening and we were pleased to finally get off the Sinfonia. Would we travel with this company again-absolutes not. This was my 19th cruise, the worst by far and was certainly not to be repeated. Read Less

My husband and I had been planning a wonderful birthday celebration for him, so we decided on Viking. We had heard from many friends on how superb and excellent it was to travel with Viking. This was not our first cruise as we have done several cruises at least 1 every 2 years, fortunately enough with other very high-end lines - Oceania and Regent Seven Seas. We are lucky enough that we can afford high-end cruise liners so we thought Viking would be in the same category as our past cruise experiences! We booked the Eastern European cruise from Bucharest to Budapest from Aug 21-28, 2019. Boy were we SO wrong!!! I am currently sitting in my hotel room on August 25, in Sofia, Bulgaria writing this review, we have been here since August 23. The reason I am writing this today and posting to all different websites instead of communicated directly with Viking is because we have already tried that. We had an extremely unsatisfying phone conversation with Viking customer service when we arrived in Sofia, Bulgaria after disembarking. The lady on the phone was quite rude and dismissive of our issues. She was unwilling to admit any fault with Viking Cruises or their services and told us that we “chose to leave” therefore, there was no compensation for our dissatisfaction and that we should of purchase travel insurance. Really? Based on how we have been treated so far, we would not consider another Viking Cruise. We are on the younger side of their demographic, are active on social media, and have a wide circle of friends. If this is how we are treated, I cannot imagine how they dealt with the very elder members of the cruise. This is how are travel story began: We literately got on the ship on August 21 and disembarked and left on August 23 (being my husband's birthday)- two days into our cruise! The last thing you want to do is pack again when you have only spent 1 night on a ship. But it was such an awful and uncomfortable experience and my husband was so unhappy, we made the decision to leave the ship and told the ship's hotel director that we were disembarking on the next port of call (Vidin, which by the way, the ship did not stop there, but instead we made it to Lum as the ship had some issues getting to Vidin! - not surprise, as we were late the day before arriving to the first port of call Russe, Bulgaria to pick up the majority of the passengers who got off for their tours in a different location). Just think to have to decide to either deal with this awful experience for another 5 nights or cut your losses and leave ship, we chose the latter. We had to at least close the day of his 60th birthday in a place we would be more comfortable at. To start, we arrived on Saturday, August 17 in Bucharest from the US as we wanted to spend a couple of days on our own touring the city. We are not big on group tours and prefer doing our own thing (this is another big problem if you travel with Viking but will fill you in on that part of the story later). We were told to speak to our local Viking contact at the Sheraton Bucharest hotel - where we were staying as part of their 1 day pre-cruise land offer (and at least it is a very nice hotel, and since I hold Platinum status with them, we were upgraded to a lovely suite). Pre-cruise meeting August 20th in the evening – Sheraton Hotel: The Viking person there told us to have our luggage out by 7:30 am on August 21 and to meet in the lobby by 9 am. She indicated that there would be a scenic tour through the city on our way to a location for lunch and then a bus ride to the ship. What we were not told or even offered, especially for those guests that had already been in the city for days prior to cruising, was given an option to go straight to the ship from the hotel. August 21, ship boarding day, what really happened: Stop 1 - they bused us around the city again and took us to Old town (our 5th time there, remember, we arrived on August 17th!), then wanted to give us a walking tour of Old town, why??? We told them we had already been there 5 other times, so instead my husband and I sat around some bank building steps for almost 2 hours while the rest of the guest did their so called "tour" what a waste! At this time of day (9 am) all of Old Town restaurants are closed and only some coffee shops were open, we just had breakfast at the hotel as instructed! We sat around from 9 to 11:30 am! I asked Diani (or Dina) our very confused tour guide on bus 14, if there was a better option for us that we could meet them at the restaurant, she actually threatened and said that if we did not arrive at the restaurant, we would have to take a private car to the ship and that was about 1 hour and 45 minutes ride, so my husband and I decided to tag along. Old town tour is done thankfully, and now they tell us we are going to the Parliament building for a 10-minute picture stop and finishing up at the Museum of the Villages before lunch. Stop 2 - We crossed through town again, and saw the same scenery, the arch, the revolution square, heard the same stories and finally arrived at the Parliament location again and after 10 minutes those that got off for “picture moments” got back on the bus, where the tour guide and her very valuable assistant proceeded to do a head count and appeared that they were short 1 person as she stated that we were originally 37 on our bus (#14) and now we were 36. She then told us that we could not leave until such person was found and asked us if we knew this person? How could we know such person as we just all boarded 2 hours ago, none of us have even met, let alone know all the passengers on board? She didn't even know if we were looking for a man or woman. After an almost 45-minute wait in the parking lot, they finally gave up and we headed to the Museum of the villages tour. Stop 3 – Museum of Villages - What a dump, The is and old, mosquito infested open air museum that has the different house structures of Romania within its compound, we were forced to be there for 2 hours, so again we tried to find a decent place to sit while we waited for our 2 pm departure. We sat in an un air-conditioning hut where they Come to find out, that during this tour, the tour guide's quiet head sets and microphone were not working so no one could hear her talking about this 'wonderful museum'. Again, my husband and I do not like group tours, and we made this clear to the agent when we booked our cruise directly with Viking, he told us we could also do our own thing, really? Stop 4 – LUNCH - So now we are down to lunch, oh boy, it was at Pescarus by a local lake (why not Hard Rock cafe next door, at least the building is nicer, and they have real a/c and great food). The tour guide made it sound that this was an exceptional high-end restaurant with wonderful local food. This restaurant reminded us of an old 70 diner in Vegas, the food was some type of composition of lots of onions with some 3 pieces of meat, potatoes and bread, with some side salad. Wine, water and if you only asked beer, as they didn't voluntarily offered beer or told us it was included in our meal. My husband had already gone to the bar and paid for his as we didn't know it was also included. This was lunch – nursing home cafeteria!!! Oh, and some local folkloric dancing was provided for entertainment. Guys this is what you call luxury travel and superb top of the line service, read your advertisement, it is a SCAM, total SCAM!!! Then finally we are off to the ship, almost 2 hours into the drive, the tour guide's information about Romania is focused on that people have their own gardens, grow their own vegetables and fruits, and have cows, chicken, and pigs in their lands, and indicates "to the left you will see some cows, to the right you will see how gypsies live. Coming to the right again are more cows and some chickens"? Really... ok so we finally arrive the ship.... Finally, on board - Room was quite small, but appeared comfortable at least, we had room 323 on the highest level with a Veranda (never got to use it). The ship has NO WOW factor, it is small, clean, but small. Our room had a mini bar but of course empty why would they want to even fill it up with sodas, juice and beer for you, like most "LUXURY" cruises do when you pay such a high-price, of course not, we are just cattle and their job is to hurry you up to the next port of call get you off the ship and put you on another awesome tour for the day, give you some petty lunch and bring you back for dinner. We could see this coming. We had a decent dinner and some drinks at the bar and called it a night, we could not get much sleep as people were walking above our room, since we were on the top floor above us was the walking track! There is a taped paper sign by the railing asking guest that as a "curtesy not to walk between the hours of 10 pm to 7 am" did they see, read or listen, no! So between toilet flushes (oh yes, they have some type of vacuum system that is so loud, you can hear everyone’s flushes all night long - remember, the majority of passengers on this ship were over 70, I think we were the youngest, so they go to the restroom a LOT! And the guest walking above our room, we probably got 4 hours of sleep, but we thought when they all get off the boat tomorrow, we can relax and enjoy the ship and sleep in -- not! We were told that for those that were not going on tours in Russe, Bulgaria the next morning, they could lower their room speaker’s volume so you would not be disturbed! Right!!! 7:45 am a loud speaker wakes us up, literately we both jumped out of bed, as they had to announce the departing time for tours!!! We tried to reduce the speaker volume, and were unsuccessful as it was broken, so we knew now that sleeping in would not be an option for the next days. We decided to try and go to bed once again after everyone got off the boat and this is where the real meal plan begins. You see they offer breakfast from 7-9, because they don't expect any one to remain on the ship, why would they bother to extend breakfast time to maybe 10:30 for those that do want to stay onboard. All luxury ships provide some type of meal service throughout and 24 hours. This ship does not offer ROOM SERVICE, so you are screwed. You must eat at hours told, if not, you will end up like us with no breakfast or lunch for our first full day on board. By the time I got up on the first day of cruising (Aug 22), we both missed out on breakfast, tough luck! They had some breads and cold cuts, but forget some nice eggs or omelet, bowl of cereal or warm toast. We decided to stay on board to see how the experience would be as we had decided not to join any of the "free tours" based on our pre-cruise tour experience we could see the quality and decided to just get off where we could at each port of call and do our own thing (of course we didn't get to do that as we permanently got off the next day!). 1st full and last day on board - here it goes, we have no real breakfast, for lunch we both napped again and by the time we woke up we had missed the light lunch they sat out for the maybe 12 passengers that stayed on board. So, we ate what was left before they picked up by 2 pm. My husband likes to smoke his cigars, and proceeded after lunch to go to the upper deck to have one and enjoy the river view, to his amazement, they had removed all shading in the designated "smoking" area at the back of the ship, he literately sat in the withering sun at 90 degrees F trying to enjoy his cigar, he could not and just got up and we ended up spending the remaining of the day in the a/c lounge area. There is absolutely no wait service in the upper deck. If you want to get a drink, you must go down to the bar and order one. You are on your own. By this time my husband was so fed up with how the services are on board and the limited staff that is available we were so disenchanted that I only wanted to be off this ship! So, this is how the meals program works, breakfast is 7-9 am, lunch 12-2 pm, however, the restaurant is not open for those days where everyone or the majority of passengers our off on tours. So, the only day that lunch would even be available in the restaurant is the 24th as it was the only "Sailing day" to "enjoy the luxuries of this ship" a joke. Dinner starts at 7 pm as per their program sent to us. Not true, on the ship we were told that if you did not make it past 7:20 pm in the restaurant, most likely you would miss out on your appetizer, and if you got there by 7:45 pm you would might not get your main course, so of course everyone like cattle, herd over to the restaurant right at 7 pm! What a joke, where is the luxury in this, the comfort, why work on your time vs. ours! We are paying for this service it is not a nursing home, but we sure felt like it! We were so disgusted with this that we didn't even put in our dinner order we went back to our room and discussed our options, we decided to cut this trip short and leave! Didn't care where, just leave! I spoke with the Hotel director on board and explained that we were so disenchanted with this whole experience we just wanted off the boat. We left August 23 at 9 am to never, ever turn back. We ended up having to pay for a driver to take us to Sofia, Bulgaria $200 Euros. Booked a room at the Hilton in Sofia for 5 nights and booked two one-way plane tickets $1500 K to take us from Sofia to Budapest on the 28th as we already have the 2 post days in Budapest booked with Viking. We don't head home until the 1st of Sept so it would of cost us a lot of money to change our first-class seats back to the US for an earlier departure, plus Budapest has been on our bucket list for a long time. So, to summarize our experience, if you are looking for true luxurious travel, with all the comforts of high-end cruising VIKING IS NOT, again NOT FOR YOU! Our advice, please do your research, I failed to do this, and we relied on what people we knew that travel like us had shared! I didn't bother to read reviews, or investigate further, since their pricing and advertising is similar to those true luxury lines, we didn't think twice on booking. However, lessons learned, from now on it does not matter how experience travelers we are, we will always check. I am so upset about this, this cost us over $15,000 K, we could have done a beautiful resort in Hawaii or a luxury pent-house cruise in the Caribbean for this price, but no, we chose Viking due to their misleading, false advertising. As I initially stated, I called their customer service number once we arrived at Sofia, Bulgaria to ensure that they would NOT cancel our hotel in Budapest as it was part of the package and to also request a partial refund for such an awful experience. They lady on the phone proceeded to tell me that we didn't buy trip insurance and therefore, we were not owned anything back! As we chose to leave, no lady, you gave us plenty of reasons to leave that is the big difference!! We didn't buy trip insurance, why would we, we are both healthy and had every intention to make this trip, it is my husband’s 60th. She told me that if we would have purchased it, there would have been a partial refund. NOT TRUE, their trip insurance does not refund you for dissatisfied services only for the following as per their brochures: CANCEL FOR ANY REASON WAIVER DETAILS What We Will Do: Under the “Cancel For Any Reason” Waiver, we will waive our cancellation penalties and reimburse you in cash or travel vouchers (depending on the reason for cancellation) for the nonrefundable portion of your Viking trip cost, provided that you cancel before your scheduled departure. We will also waive any additional fees you would otherwise incur for a change in your per person occupancy rate if a person booked to travel with you cancels his or her trip and you do not cancel your trip. How You Are Reimbursed: If you cancel for one of the “Specified Reasons” listed in the Protection Plan document, we will reimburse you in cash. If you cancel for any other reason, we will reimburse you with a travel voucher that can be used for future voyages with us. The maximum amount covered under this “Cancel For Any Reason” Waiver is the cost of the travel arrangements provided by Viking Cruises. TRIP INTERRUPTION AND DELAYED ARRIVAL - Provides You with a reimbursement for the unused prepaid, non-refundable Payments or Deposits for Your land or water Travel Arrangements for Your Trip, plus the additional airfare cost to return home, if Your Trip is interrupted for a covered reason. MISSED CONNECTION - Provides You with a reimbursement for the unused portions of Your land or water Travel Arrangements, plus the additional costs to join Your trip, if Your arrival at the Trip destination is delayed for 3 hours or more for a covered reason. TRAVEL DELAY - Assists with additional travel expenses incurred when You are delayed at least 12 hours due to a covered reason. In the event of a covered delay, You will be reimbursed for additional expenses for hotels, meals, and transportation. AIR FLIGHT ONLY ACCIDENTAL DEATH & DISMEMBERMENT - Provides coverage up to the maximum benefit payable for loss of life, limb or sight resulting from an Accidental Injury. MEDICAL EXPENSE/EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE - Provides Medical Expense benefits for a covered Sickness or Injury incurred while on Your Trip. When required, We will evacuate You to the nearest qualified hospital and will then return You home when You are safe to travel. POLITICAL OR SECURITY EVACUATION - Provides coverage for all reasonable evacuation expenses incurred for Your transportation to the nearest safe haven, if You must leave Your Trip for a covered Political or Security Event. Evacuation must occur within 10 days of any Political or Security Event. BAGGAGE & PERSONAL EFFECTS - Provides reimbursement when Your baggage or personal belongings are damaged, lost or stolen during Your Trip. Personal belongings include such things as loss of luggage, jewelry, passports or travel visas. Ms. Viking Customer service or better yet, Mr. Hagen (CEO and President of Viking) tell me where you would reimburse me if we were unsatisfied with your services if we would have even opted to buy your so called “travel Insurance” oh but yes, another scam. Things to know, the main drive of Viking is to sell you tours, to get you off their ships like cattle herding as they now don't have to entertain you with drinks and meals on board. They put you on buses and bus you around and give you nice bottles of “warm” water and some type of lunch meal, then bus you back to their ship and feed you again to put you back to sleep in your corral and do this all over the next day. I call Viking a low-class glamping service, that really is what they are. There is absolutely no way to reach out to those higher up in the Viking organization, but one wonders if they are possibly well aware of these selling methods and activities. It is all about driving profit. I feel that as a consumer is my right to advocate for us travelers, and if publishing my review throughout all travel sites will have my voice heard, I will do until I have someone in the Viking organization try and appease this situation with us and reimburse us partially for such a disappointing and disastrous experience. I will also be disputing this with my credit card company. Also, anyone would be so kind, please share this review. Again, thank you for taking the time to read my review and feel free in reaching out to us, united we have a bigger voice. August 25, 2019 Read Less

First time cruiser. did not explore the ship history. i dependented on my travel agent. the cabin was okay, the bed was very soft, but the room was very hot. the food was just awful and was served over and over again. I was looking forward to having crabs, but we had crabs only one night and a very small amount. I have never seem king crabs legs so small. i had to keep asking the housekeeper for towels and we never got soap. i don't think he ever change the sheets on our beds. but i did give him a tip before leaving. i were so sick and tire of someone trying to sell me something. the entertainment was okay. The excursions that took us into canada to the supension bridge, and that was overprice, served lunch of half cooked chicken. coming back into america from canada, our border patrol did not come on board the bus to check any pass ports. canada border partrol did. i will not cruise on princess again, but may try another line, but will investigate and check reviews before booking. I think a lot of the people that work on these ships think it will be all fun for them, until they find out that they have to work hard. Read Less
