We have wanted to take a European river cruise for years and 2023 was the year! The 14 day cruise took us to many interesting places and allowed us to take our time and leverage the travel time to and from Europe. The ship was wonderful, and the service was excellent. Daniella, the cruise director was wonderful and made the voyage so very interesting with her cheery, attentive attitude and vast ...
Having been to West Germany with Viking, I wanted to experience East Germany.
It was exceptional in all aspects of the trip.
Two days in a hotel in Prague. Five days on the ship. Three days in Berlin.
In both Prague and Berlin we were comfortable in that Alan (our Cruise Director) had given us a short tour and then many great recommendations of places to eat and/or visit. Both the ...
Heard from previous passengers that Viking Cruises were second to none. Decided to book the cruise along with several tours that Viking offered. All tours were conducted by locals who were well versed in local culture, history, and background of the area. We took advantage of the pre-cruise excursions in Budapest, and the post cruise excursions in Prague. The timing of everything, from dining, ...
We chose the cruise to finally see the Black Sea. Even though part of the Black Sea part was modified to reflect the fact that Ukraine was under attack, the cruise offered what was otherwise advertised and more. By and large, the weather was excellent. Melinda (the cruise director) and the ship's crew worked well together and indivudually to make the cruise enjoyable, relaxing, and fun. One ...
The cruise was well organized. Lots of excursions. We stayed mostly with the walking tours and spent our free time roaming the beautiful towns and cities where we landed. We especially enjoyed the activities coordinator’s insights as he previewed the next day’s port of call.
Food was always abundant, well prepared, and well presented by a friendly wait staff. There were regional selections ...
We wanted to see France via the Rhone. After the cruise we went to Paris and then to Normandy (via trains). The cruise more than passed our expectations. The crew could not have been better--welcoming, friendly and wanting to please. One of the hi-lights was Giuseppe--the piano player. He was a gift to our experience and we enjoyed him tremendously. Thank you for hiring him! The food was ...
A wonderful 7 days on the Rhine. This was our first river cruise with Gate 1 but not our first trip with them. The ship is lovely and the crew great, food was delicious with complimentary wine and beer with dinner. Included tours were offered at every port with a few that cost extra. Coffee, tea and cookies are available all day. Two lounges, one big, one smaller. Entertainment was okay. A few ...
I wanted a more intimate cruise. The thought of going on a ship with 4000 other people gives me the creeps. We were able to connect with and get to know people from around the world including the ships crew. The crew was lovely by the way. One of the wait staff was a wonderful young woman from Ukraine who we bonded with almost immediately. The service was superb and we felt like we were pampered. ...
We did this as our first river cruise because I daughter got married in Germany. I absolutely loved it. I thought it was a beautiful experience. The food was spectacular. Could not have been better. Loved the exposure to all of the German food. The staff on Viking as always were spectacular. The could use with getting new beds on this ship. They are not great. This was our first river cruise so ...
We chose this trip to see that particular part of Europe. I went to The University of Strasbourg years ago and wanted to revisit the area. Previous visits to Holland, Germany and France left us wanting to go back again. The longboat idea really appealed to us where we unpack once and repack in 7 days. The chef, servers, and food were extraordinary! Each day there was a delicious menu offered as ...
