Three key situations that contributed to an endless list of problems. 1. Avalon knew before we left Paris that the cruise would be interrupted by weather and did not communicate that to us. 2. The actual experience on the boat did not match advertised quality. 3.The accommodations provided once the cruise was interrupted were substandard which were otherwise promised in ...
This was far more of a floating hotel than a cruise, although the "hotel" itself was very nice. The ship is fairly new, well appointed and the staff were fantastic. Our complaint about the ship itself was the fact that the bed was very uncomfortable and the linens felt like sandpaper. The staff were very attentive, helpful and accommodating. The itinerary sucked!! The ship moved a few miles ...
I recently took my mother on a Viking river cruise from Basel to Amsterdam. This cruise was the 70th Birthday gift to my mother and was supposed to be very special. I did a lot of research before purchasing from Viking to ensure that the surroundings, program, activities and entertainment were superb, and certainly Viking US commercials did support this notion. My mother also was looking very much ...
Viking Cruise Review
My wife and I have been inveterate travelers for the last forty years and have been to many countries and have used many travel and tour companies. So I write this review with some degree of travel experience. We just completed the Tulips and Windmill cruise (May 2-11). This was our second Viking cruise, the first being the Paris to Normandy cruise, last summer ( which was ...
My wife and I booked the Viking river cruise in Europe for our 25th wedding anniversary and it turned out to be a bus tour of Europe!
The river level was too high for the first four days so we couldn't leave Basel. Finally the river level went down slightly and we began moving. Yippee!
Oops, we only went about thirty miles then found out that the lock workers were on strike so we couldn't ...
Having had a wonderful cruise on the Seine (Paris-North-Paris) we looked forward to the Portraits of Southern France. The Viking dock site in Chalon is not a beautiful but we enjoyed the walks away from the ship. We were surprised when we were told that we were having to hurry along to get to Lyon because we needed to pass through the locks before May 1 closures due to May Day. Since May Day ...
The bathroom floor is 2-3 inches higher than the stateroom floor. On the second night, I got up to use the bathroom and tripped and fell on the ledge. I hurt my back and my shin. I spent the entire next day in bed iceing my injuries. I was in moderate to mild pain the rest of the trip. Three weeks later, I still have bruises on my back and a bump on my shin. In my opinion, the stateroom is ...
Before I give my review let me just say that we have sailed on USS Norway when the smoke stacks backed up, on Royal Caribbean several times, on 3 Princess, 1 Celebrity, 1 Silver Seas, and now our first river cruise so we are not first time cruises.
Now for my review of our trip to the Tulips and Windmills, Amsterdam to Belgium and back to Amsterdam. We also stayed two extra days in Amsterdam ...
In Summary
1. In our opinion, Viking Cruises is more a marketing company than a holiday provider. Marketing is what they do best, full of promises, fabulous photos and presentations to make you believe you'll be travelling with the best cruise line in the World. Comparing Viking's handling of our complaint with the volume of their marketing material sent simultaneously by email and post, ...
Under the aegis of 'Acromas' this was the new trip offered by Saga.
For three nights we were booked into the Paradiso Hotel - a Golf Resort, surrounded by links (but out-of-bounds to non-golfers). The restaurant opened in the evening but on our arrival only a frantically busy cafe was available for lunch. The rooms were clean and spacious and the toilet in my room was fixed quickly, but it ...
