We have been on 5 river cruises but this was the first one with Viking. The staff were fine!
The ship - on which we paid extra to have a third floor suite - was parked next to another ship at least 5 times. What a disappointment to wake up 3 days in a row only to see another person's room as our view. On previous AVALON cruise this never happened and noticed them in several ports this year - ...
We have been on 5 river cruises (60+ ocean cruises) but this was the first one with Viking.
The staff were fine!
The ship - on which we paid extra to have a third floor suite - was parked next to another ship at least 5 times. What a disappointment to look out - only to see another person's room as our view. On previous AVALON cruise this never happened and noticed them in several ports ...
Failed in the area of knowledgeable land guides. Although not Viking personnel, Viking is responsible for the experience. There was one good guide out of seven. High expectations for food; and the food was, at best, average. Failed at ports of call. All but two ports required bus transportation, not walking distance as pictured in the brochures and on-line. Two ports were cement and cinder ...
This cruise was problematic in:
- Lack of food to buy onboard between meals
Room was strictly average in care and staff upkeep
-Food was mediocre although it looked good, but poor quality
-Staff was mediocre in politeness and helpfulness; unaccomodating
-Half of the tour guides were above average, the rest mediocre and below average
- Scarcity of onboard activities
- Program ...
This was our 2nd 4-week riverboat cruise across Europe on Vantage, 2011 and 2015. The 2015 ship, River Splendor, was very nice, wonderful suite cabins. We had the same Captain Roger on both trips, a wonderful captain. Vantage decreased the number of included tours on the 2015 cruise, but still they were fine. But there were two major disappointments: (1) very poor fish, meat and eggs; and (2) ...
The hallmark of French cuisine is fresh food that is prepared from the best of ingredients. This ship featured food that had been frozen, canned or refrigerated for an excessive amount of time. The cuts of meat were mediocre in quality. The sauces were not prepared well- they were often heavy and gloppy. Pastries and bread suffered from freezing or over refrigeration and had little or no taste. I ...
We had a wonderful time on our trip to London and Paris. Our glass is always half full.
However there is something you need to know about the Viking Cruise ship Rinda.
Viking advertised (and continues to advertise) "Paris to Normandy". We received an e-mail advising us of a dock change 3 days before sailing. The explanation for the change in the docking location was that a permit from ...
Due to high water levels, passengers were loaded in Speyer, 3.5 hours down the Rhine. No advance notification even though they knew at least 3 days ahead that the situation was not going to improve. Pax were met by 2 persons who said they worked for UniWorld, told to leave the luggage riverside, told to get into a van, taken to a skanky restaurant down the road, told that there was no time to ...
On our way to the airport on May 5 we received an email from Viking River Cruises telling us that because of rising water levels, our ship, the Delling, would not be able cruise. We would be housed in a hotel, the Novotel, for at least 1 night in Avignon. While we were disappointed we understood that this was something out of Viking's control. However, I was concerned that the Novotel would not ...
I was extremely disappointed with the Viking River Cruise from which I just returned. The river was too high so we couldn't leave the port. The way the situation was handled left much room for improvement. It was obvious that the director was given very little authority as to what to do in such a situation. The passengers were extremely angry and given little opportunity to get questions ...
