Great cruise ship. We have sailed before and had a panoramic room which was wonderful. This time there were none available so we had a cabin on the lowest floor with no window. We found the room very small and claustrophobic, great as a single but not for a couple. Last time I lived just relaxing in the room literally watching the world go by but this time I couldn’t wait to leave the ...
The ports were great and we wanted to try a river cruise . The food was not good and if we didn’t like lunch which we did not, there was nothing other than cookies until dinner. Breakfast was good. Only 2 dinners were good. We actually lost weight on the cruise. Also not enough staff in the dining room. Cruise director and excursions were great. Great tour guides! Staff was excellent at ...
Cruised on the Mississippi River, started in New Orleans and ended in Memphis. The cruise itself was great, no complaints and enjoyed cruising with predominately an older, more mature crowd. Ship is not recommended for someone traveling with small children or teenagers. Food was excellent and crew was very accommodating for my Celiac food allergy. Menu in the fine dining was clearly marked for ...

We have done our share of ocean cruises, but this was our first river cruise. We travelled with another couple, which really added to the overall fun of this break. We are relative novices to Europe, having last visited Italy before we had kids that are now in college. We booked the seven day Rhine cruise on the Viking HLIN, with a two day stay on the front end in Amsterdam, the cruise launch ...
Just came back from our first river cruise aboard the "American Queen" on the Lower Mississippi..
Pros:
Fantastic staff and fellow cruisers.
Better quality food than say Carnival
All inclusive
Laid back and comfortable atmosphere.
All American speaking crew is a BIG plus as it limits communication issues.
Great Bang for the Buck!
Cons:
Boat could use better maintenance ...

We wanted to experience a river cruise and the price was reasonable. Got off to a bad start as we were left sitting on the bus from airport to the ship for more than two and half hours while waiting for late arrivals. Even suggested we got off and walk a good distance back to the terminal if we wanted to use the facilities as there was still no word of moving off.
We did and bought water ...
Traveling to these counties was somewhere we had never been. The actual cruise was terrific. The pre-trip was fine, nothing great. The guides and excursions were usually just an average. One in Vidin Bulgaria was terrific. Nothing in context with regards to history or inclusion (lots of churches and according to guides no synagogues, even when they were 1 or 2 blocks away) and we found them on ...
Here were my suggestions to Viking, and potential passengers may want to be aware of these possibilities:
1) I would suggest letting passengers know that if they pay for an upgraded room with a veranda, there will be times when the boat is docked "veranda rail-to-veranda rail" with another ship, and you will be inches from a neighboring ship and another passenger's veranda.
2) The lounge ...
Learned a lot of history from the lectures. The excursions were fantastic. The service was beyond amazing the people working this cruise made it absolutely one of the most fun and lively vacations ever! So enjoyable from the service perspective; kudos to the program director and the bar chief, the maitre d', the guest services people and housekeeping and service staff, everyone worked really hard ...
Our Cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest was wonderful, the ship was beautiful, the cruise director Richard was just amazing as was his off-sider Andree. The staff on the ship were brilliant, from the cabin butlers to the food waiters. We had to change ships halfway through the cruise due to water levels and went to the Ruby. Staff on both ships were very good but I must say the food on the Ruby ...
