Fun trip overall! Biggest issue was needing to switch ship due to low water. We went on a cruise rather than land tour specifically to be able to stay in one room for the duration. Mantra of Viking is “unpack once,” but literally every friend and relative who has cruised Viking River has to switch ships once. It happens REGULARLY & It is VERY disruptive. While they moved us, they provided lunch ...
The ship was spotless and the crew was great. This is a French company and most of the guests were French. There were Americans ans Brits also on the cruise. The room was very small but I assume that since the ship traveled canals and went through very narrow canals things had to be tight. The public rooms were really nice and spacous. For non Euopeans, all the tours were included. After we left ...
We chose this cruise for the itinerary and time of year, hoping for a chance at some cooler weather than we're used to where we're from. As it happened, the two weeks of our cruise coincided with the hottest two weeks of the year for this region. This might not have been a big deal if there hadn't been generator and subsequent A/C issues on the boat. The A/C issues impacted our cabin as well as ...
I wanted to see Budapest and Vienna but I ended up enjoying the smaller cities along the way. our ship, which was supposed to be a year old was swapped for a ship that was over 10 years old. We were stranded on shore two times because of problems with the ship. I did not know how exhausting the touring would be, especially in 90 degree heat.
Those days we were not allowed on the ship I might ...
We had traveled with Viking in the fall on a cruise on the Rhine that was fantastic (Basel to Amsterdam in October 2023). Excellent excursions, excellent staff, quiet room, fun guests.
We were hoping to have another excellent experience. Unfortunately, the cruise was a disappointment. They seemed understaffed in the dining room. The food felt like college cafeteria food after a day. Strange ...
Heavy advertising prompted our booking a cruise .. we had done another short river cruise on the Yanzee River which we enjoyed and thought this would be a step up. The tour guides were extremely knowledgeable and each one was as good as the next. We stayed with the included tours as the optional ones were either booked or had too high level of difficulty for one of our group to walk/climb ...
My mom and I thought this would be a wonderful trip on a river cruise to Portugal, a place neither of us had ever been. The positive critique 1st, the cabin was nice and the food overall was a 4 out of 5. I found very little of it relaxing because we were always on a very strict schedule: rise early and go to the dining area to eat breakfast before getting on the bus for the daily excursions. ...
Positive
nice ship, very clean
staff great
food that we eat was very good
Negative
cruise director not very helpful
as indicated above, food was very good, however, variety was limited, so we kept eating the same food nightly
tours good, however, company should consider doing tours that are more friendly for people with limited
mobility, they had one of these ...
Our first viking cruise. We previously cruised with Avalon in 2022 in France, plus many ocean cruises. We are younger seniors that enjoy walking and biking.
Positives:
1. Clean, well maintained boat, with ample and comfortable seating at all levels.
2. The staff in every level were polite, helpful and responsive. All exceeded expectations.
3. The food in my opinion was terrific. The ...
This was my 5th Viking Cruise, second time doing the Rhine. Our very first Rhine Cruise was July 2015. Wow! Viking has changed! Many of the optional excursions were included in 2015. This time not much offered. Too many shuttles being used to get to towns and back to boat. The service has gone down. We weren’t even recognized for our 5th cruise! They did have a cocktail party for returning guests, ...
