Disappointing Trip

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on ms Treasures

First the good points. The interiary was great, especially with a second day in Vienna. The two special evenings - one in Budapest and the second in Prague - were very well organized, enjoyable, and memorable. The rooms were large and well kept. The tour guides and excursion staff were excellent, knowledgable, and very friendly. They were always available to help out or answer questions. ...

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Mimir

Wasn't as advertised....ports were not as expected. When given the introduction to the Viking river cruises online they made it seem that we would dock in the center of town (which most are based around the river) and we would walk off the boat. While this may have been the case in some instances it wasn't the case in most. Many times we needed to take a bus to visit the main sites. Also, due to ...

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Heimdal

Viking River Cruise, Viking Heimdal, Lyon to Avignon, May 4-11, 2016 Viking River Cruises presents an attractive, even seductive, face. From the alluring advertising to the handsome “long boats” decked out in understated Scandinavian hues to the exception people who staff their ships to the fine cuisine and excellent local guides who make each destination come alive, Viking does it right. It ...

Not Up to AMA Standards

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on AmaVida

We had previously taken AMA's 14-day cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam and had a wonderful time. Great food, brand new boat, service friendly and efficient. Then we took the Duoro cruise. Whole different deal. For starters, it's NOT AMA's boat! Per Portugal law the boat is owned (I guess) by a friend of the president. AMA also has limited say in who they hire. So essentially it's a ...

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Emerald Star

The boat is very modern & clean. Some of the other boats we saw looked like floating old people's homes but Emerald Star is shiny chrome & glass. Cabin was well appointed. The swimming pool area is great and a dinky but adequate gym. Overworked staff do their best but when you've paid a lot of money for a week''s holiday you don't need to spend it feeling sorry for them. We were constantly ...

Poor Value

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Egil

The river cruise certainly has potential for an incredible vacation. The pace of seeing the countryside go by, and falling to sleep to the gentle forward movement are both unique and highly pleasurable. The final approach to Budapest was incredible and the Viking Egil was a beautiful ship. Overall though, Viking cut too many corners and by the time our trip was over, I was ready to be done with ...

Poor Service; Far from Luxury Standards

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Scenic Jade

Scenic deserves great credit for the design of their ships, with spacious cabins, nice amenities and terrific balconies. The cruise line also does a fantastic job marketing their product, but they fall far short of luxury standards when it comes to service, dining and activities. Our 7 day cruise aboard the Jade was our first river cruise and likely our last on Scenic. We were attracted to ...

CroisiEurope Riverboat Michelangelo, Venice Everyone we talked to told us how great the riverboat cruises are. We searched for cruises from Venice and came up with Croisieurope with stops at Padua, Verona and Bologna. Perfect! we said. We had no idea that the amount of time traveling on buses would exceed the time spent cruising on the river. With the exception of Venice, itself, we would ...

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Tialfi

We wanted to see the Rhine River from Amsterdam down to Switzerland. The cruise itself was great as were the crew on the riverboat. The moment we walked on to the Tialfi we were warmly greeted by the staff. We were checked in immediately and escorted to our Explorer Suite, which I had been eagerly anticipating. The riverboat crew were exemplary. They could not do enough for their ...

Review for a Europe - All Cruise on Viking Var

I choose a Viking cruise because of the wonderful experiences my friends and clients have had sailing with Viking. My experience was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! Friday 22April, 3P we boarded Viking Var in Budapest. Embarkation went smoothly. Disappointment started when we found out the Var would leave Budapest at 9A the next day, Saturday. Other Viking ships docked with the Var were scheduled ...
