Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Avalon Illumination

We had travelled with Avalon previously in 2015 and spent a lot of time convincing my sister and her husband to join us for the Budapest to Amsterdam cruise. This was to be the trip of a lifetime for my sister. As you read on you will feel our disappointment with the trip but please read to the end of my comments. On arrival in Budapest we met people who had travelled up from Amsterdam and ...

Not up to Uniworld standards

Review for a Russia River Cruise on River Victoria

This was my third Uniworld Cruise and it was disappointing. The boarding process was efficient and luggage was delivered quickly. The rooms are very small. Storage is adequate. The bathroom was very small and limited shelf and storage. The shower was so small that when I dropped a small razor, I had to turn off the water, open the door, and step out to be able to pick it up. On previous ...

We chose is cruise to explore northern Portugal, starting in lisbon with a few nights stay at the hotel Tivoli and then onto porto for our river cruise. The room that we were alicated on-board was clean and well designed although we did notice a low drone of engines/generators running. The meals onboard were average at best. The evening entertainment was poor even by river cruise standards. The ...

No water!

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Astrild

We have taken many Viking river cruises. Unfortunately this was the non cruise cruise as the Elbe did not have enough water to allow the ships to navigate the river. Therefore we were bussed everywhere and there was zero cruising. If you take this route ask what months are best to give the chance of water in the river as apparently this happens quite a bit around the time we took the cruise. ...

Not Do Grand Viking European Tour

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Mimir

First Time Cruiser • Age 60s

This was a most disappointing holiday for the high price we paid. When booking this trip we assumed that you are able to step off the boat in to the towns listed and enjoy exploring on our own. Unfortunately we spent more time on buses as the docking stations are too far away. We also had to change ships which meant a 3 hour bus journey therefore missing an afternoon in Nuremberg. That then ...

Very disappointing food.

We chose this cruise because of advice from our Travel Agent and of hearing good things concerning Viking Cruises from past passengers. The Captain, all crew members, the balcony room, the ports of call, and cleanliness of the ship were all excellent. Our main gripe was the poor quality of the food served on board. As an example, after a very early start on our departure date, we were told on ...

Ship of Faulty Towers

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on AmaVerde (APT)

I was expecting a 5 star luxury river cruise similar to a Seaborne ocean cruise. How wrong was I. River cruising is similar to bus touring. There is very little time to do your own thing as you have to leave the ship to join a coach which takes you to whichever town you are going to. You do a quick tour, maybe 1.5 hours and then back on the coach to the ship. Dining is very crowded. There is ...

Some Australian friends had told us how good APT river cruises were, so we went with high expectations. Sadly, not all were met. Perhaps we are not the right folk to do this type of cruising, we are used to independent travelling....this was very ORGANISED! As it is all-inc the trips are included also...& in the main, they were very interesting. The dinner at Paul Bocuse Abbaye de ...

Turn around time for the cruise is only 2 hours and not enough time to get the ship clean in between cruises. WiFi, only available if you stand next to the public router. Staff in the dining room, young and not well-trained. Choose different tables until you find a staff that has experience. Cruise Director and Social Director is very good. We found very nice younger passengers we ...

I booked the Gems of the Danube cruise eighteen months ago to celebrate our Ruby wedding anniversary. It was more than I would usually pay for a weeks holiday but as it was for a special occasion decided to push the boat out. (Excuse the pun!) I have been so looking forward to it I probably expected too much-it was such a disappointment! It was tiring, disorganised, stressful and not a bit ...
