If you want to eat after 10 in the evening and want more then a roll or a burnt pizza. Entertainment was a joke the cruise director needs replacing. Example colouring by numbers as an afternoon entertainment. The cruise seemed to concentrate on people who were returning customers rather then new. Formal nights were a joke, you got dressed up to walk into the dining room for your evening meal which you had done the night before. no captain, no entertainment, nothing special at all. did not bother after the 1st one. If you Smoke you are normally allowed to smoke in casino. Not on this ship on formal days all day, weather was bad so could not go up on deck and had to use cigar room which had such poor extractors and stunk, In the casino ashtray was a floor standing one which staff emptied out the ashtrays from the slot machines into and never got emptied all day. Everyone i spoke to and me included had charges for services not used added to bills. AFter 8 days at sea managed to get 3 hours in Boston. Management of Immigration was a joke we should have been first a 6.30 with people on excursions ( instead approx 1500 in gue, emigration delayed .with people queuing for 3 or more hours, will not go on but all i will say is i saw people crying with boredom, This cruise turned into a prison sentence. so will i use again never twice crew members maimed to music on the bridge on the promenade and that was about as lively as it got. We have done over 20 Thomson cruises and although most of the ship particularly the cabins are tired we have always enjoyed the entertainment and cruise. This one was shocking....the entertainment team spent more time on deck 6 smoking than they did entertaining, they put on a deck party that lasted 35minutes where they just all danced together and did not involve any of the passengers and when were in dock there was no entertainment at all on the decks. All the shows were poor and pretty much everyone felt the same way one of the comedians thought it was funny to tell homephobic jokes and although we are not gay it was very uncomfortable. We were at sea for 6 days and they did nothing extra on the decks, most people had to make their own entertainment. I could go on and on about how disappointed we were and in fact couldn't wait to get off the ship and come home. There was no sail away party and even when the outside decks were full with passengers no extra entertainment was put on. If this is the future of the old Thomson cruises now called Marcella we certainly won't be doing another one Read Less

I can't say much good about my recent far too long cruise. "Drink all you can" -package, that most people seemed to have been with, had attracted the most unattractive crowd I have ever seen. To make matters worse NCL security seemed very much at loss, unable to properly judge people and situations. As the monotonous days dragged on (enrichment program very thin) many drunks/drinking parties seemed to be on lookout for excitement, or trouble. Worse, some of the younger staff of security seemed eager at getting off steam at passengers expense. It seemed best to at least avoid the many drinking holes to minimize chances for unpleasant, even unsettling experiences. NCL suggests to "party like a Norwegian", but what does that really mean? I did not feel that I, or anyone else, was safe or having much fun on this ship. Old ship with few thrills. Average food at best. A handful of friendly servers & bartenders, but pretty much all officers seemed quite inconvenienced to have customers onboard(!?!) I suggest these officers, including the captain, apply for jobs on a cargo ships. Skip this cruise (line). Read Less

The food in both the buffet and the dining rooms was marginal. The entertainment especially the guest entertainers were terrible with the exception of Guillermo Guido. The disembarkation in Buenos Aires was a disaster. People were pushing others out of the way, ramming others with their suitcases and cart . No direction from management. It took four hours to get off ship. The excursions with the exception of Funchal were poorly organized. The tour guides were weak in English and knowledge of their jobs. For Rio it took two hours to get from the ship to bus. So well recommended and such a disapointment. Very poorly organized . It was kind of like working with a company that is going bankrupt. This was a 22 day cruise From Venice to Buenos AIres. Of 5 cruises this is the worst, I will not use MSC again.I sent an extensive critque to MSC. Hopefully I will receive some kind of response. There appeared to be a bad relationship between service crew and management level personnel on ship. Not a happy service crew. One very bright spot was the clinic. Serbian Dr. Jelena Putnik took very good care of my unexpected lung infection in three visits. She was knowledgable and patient friendly. She was a real gem. Clinic was very well organized. Read Less

Very nice cruise, smooth sailing, fun passengers. Mynard, cabin attendant kept room stocked with supplies. Breakfast Room Service was excellent. Evening shows were very entertaining. The group, something, “Four” was outstanding. Can’t remember their first name. 4 young men singing “oldies” they also were on Reflection last year. Didn’t like the extra fee to use the sauna. I’m Elite, in Concierge, should have been no additional charge. Dining Room service, short staffed, NO warm rolls, just bread with small amt. of butter. Sometimes food was warm, other times not. I ordered 2 entrees, one would always be warm, Staff in shops on deck 4 not very friendly. I shopped on deck 5 which was a pleasure. I take this cruise for the TA. These small “issues” are really not so bad, the entertainers, the Eddy, the Cruise Director, Guest Relations and Enrichment Speakers were all very good. Have booked future cruise on Silhouette, just luv departing from Southampton. Embarkation was so easy to use your system, no hassles. Dining at Tuscan Grill, outstanding, food hot and delicious. My waiter was excellent, can’t remember his name, 11/7/17 6pm reservation. Joan S Read Less

Just saying that there was little fun on this ship to be had apart from for the riotous kids who had taken over the swimming pool. A badly designed ship, with sharp elbows from fellow diners in the self service restaurant. Did they think that there would be nothing left for them? The cabin was good as was the cabin steward. The food was not so good, and the areas cordoned off and charged for separately seemed to be an apt comment on p&o money grabbing. We normally go with Royal Carribean and missed out on the fun, the use of Sauna without having to pay tens of pounds a day, the only thing that we really did not like on our RCI cruise to the Canaries last year was the BIG TELLY which took over the top deck and pumped out football all day and night. No wonder they are throwing cruises away cheap! Read Less

We paid 2800 to go to Saint Thomas but they changed it to Cozumel we told them we could cruise there for 500 from galveston and not have the extra expense of flying to Miami, they were pretty rude and told us that they have the right to take us where ever they want and would not refund our money or even credit us anything for the inconvenience. We did have a couple of credits for the better restaurants, "What a joke they gave us nothing" every restaurant we tried to go to they wanted a $15 up charge, on top of that most of the free drinks we were supposed to have, had a 3.00 up charge, the whole trip was a joke. We went to the Irish restaurant and ordered Shepards Pie it was Mashed potato with some kind of brown paste on the bottom, I,m from England I know what shepard's pie is . All the bar staff acted like you was in there way, with the exception of a couple who i tipped very well, the pursers desk was great and very apologetic i think they understood the whole situation. I have cruised Carnival about 30 time and never had problems like this. Norwegian will never see another penny of my money. Read Less

Cruising from Hawaii back to Australia via Tahiti and New Zealand and not having to fly, seemed like a wonderfully relaxing holiday... But then there was norovirus! I think many more cases than were officially reported. I was an unlucky one who had to be wheeled down to to doctor at 3.30am! I have never been so violently ill in my life. My husband who felt quite unwell a few days later but avoided all food and alcohol, dodged the bullet of a full blown attack and was not reported. Many people we discovered along the way had been "feeling unwell" and so we hadn't seen them for a few days. I bet lots had "it" and just laid low. I have been on 6 previous cruises and Solstice was the grubbiest, from the table top in the lounge immediately upon embarkation to our cabin in which I had to scrub the sink with an airline toothbrush, yuk! The towels were threadbare and I daren't check out the pilllows or mattress. Yes, my adult kids say I am the CLEANEST person they know and I was perfectly healthy for a week in Hawaii and through Tahiti and Bora Bora. I was fastidious in my hand sanitising but then I began to notice people's habits - at the buffet especially. For example- people picking their teeth - it has to be said - and then touching the servers!!! For heavens sake cruise ships, serve people individually or put sanitizers on each table so we can eat a bread rolll. Needless to say, the buffet is to be avoided at all costs. The restaurants all seemed good but I bet menus etc. are still contaminated. Oh, and all that cruise pass handling. I have to stop now as I am reliving the nightmare. Don't go!!! PS. After being in isolation for 24 hrs Celebrity offered me a 1 day credit on a future cruise (within 12 months) of course. An admission of liability perhaps? I don't think I will be taking them up on their offer, ever. Read Less

We spent approximately 2100.00 $ for two to experience shore excursions. What was stated online was not what we received for most of our excursions. We felt lied to. By day 3 we complained and it fell on deaf ears. By week 2 we complained again....and it fell on deaf ears. We weren't the only ones upset, as others on our excursions also complained. When Guest Services attempted to set up an appointment with Shore Excursions we were told it was not possible because they were inundated with complaints. Also, before we booked with Cruiseplus.ca, I asked the agent if this cruise line was popular with very senior guests. We did not want a disabled cruise, nor a senior cruise. I was told that it wasn't known for this. Not true! There were so many with walkers, scooters and canes. I am quite mobile, and felt that many of the excursions were likely geared for this clientele group. The evening entertainment was not even close to what I have experienced with Celebrity. We have been told that since Carnival bought out Holland America, Princess and I'm sure there are more.....that it hasn't been the same. Disembarkation was also a problem. Our agent had told us to take a shuttle, because then if we were late for our flight then the Cruise Line would have to look after this. The gal at guest services stated that we couldn't take the shuttle as our flight was for 12:05 and the shuttle could only be used by those with 12:30 or thereafter. She then told me to put our luggage out in the hall the night before and pick it up at the terminal in the morning. I knew that this couldn't be correct, as we wouldn't be able to disembark early in the morning, retrieve our luggage...get a taxi (which become hard to obtain when 2,000 people are disembarking), and get to the airport 2-3 hours before our flight. We likely wouldn't make it on time....and then of course the cruise line wouldn't be responsible. The girl behind the counter stated with attitude, "Mam, I'm trying to explain to you!". I gathered my papers and went upstairs to alert my husband that he was needed. We went back to Guest Services and were told by a different employee that we should select Early Disembarkation (Expedited), and bring all of our luggage with us. She agreed that retrieving our luggage at a later time from the terminal likely would have made us late for our return home flight. There were other rude employees, but most were very nice. Sad that one remembers the rude ones though. Costa Rica was a terrible excursion due to about a dozen of us not being able to locate the driver, tour guide for at least 3/4 of an hour. And once again it was an excursion that did not meet up with what was outlined...it was a huge lie. Regarding TIPS! Why would I want to give a gratuity to those that are rude, or to parts of the ship that I don't partake....such as drinking and gambling. Yet when one wants to say no from the start....you are made to feel guilty .... and you are still given a bill at the end of the trip with this included. The night before disembarkation we had to visit Guest Services again to have this removed. We couldn't. They have your credit card....so you feel that this hangs over your head the entire trip. The morning of disembarkation we finally had it removed and I rushed around with envelopes of money to give to those who deserved a tip! Went beyond the call of duty. Whether our stateroom attendants received this money.....I will never know. They had to disembark the ship and go through customs. I had to leave their envelopes in our room. SAD!!! We were extremely disappointed with this 21 day trip! Read Less

Our dream of going to Hawaii for our 25th wedding anniversary. We were so disappointed with the company Princess. It was our 5 th croissière and the second with Princess. To start our bed was like a plywood board! Hard and not comfortable. Even after notifying the customer service, the housekeeper has put extra covers ... And nothing more! Bad has my back all the holidays! (I've never had a problem before with my back and since I came back it all came back normal!) Secondly the buffet on the 14 floors, they could not find a place to sit, lots of older people with canes and walkers on our boat and they went around the two rooms without finding a place and finally margin in their room or coffee in the 5th and sometimes I found a place in the bar to eat a donut and a coffee. If I ended up finding a place I would fill so much couple as I am 42 years old and not give my place to an elderly person with difficulty in moving it. It's a lot of trouble because in town if a pregnant woman or an elderly person needs to sit it will give me pleasure to give her my place, this is part of my values. I find it awful to experience this. My trip costing me over $ 9000 can. And I think we should be forgetting to fight to find a place to eat is ridiculous! Or even lunch in his cabin! The dining rooms are open from 7 am to 9 am with services. They are ridiculous to put a alarm to be able to have a lunch on the boat. Following my complaint they did absolutely nothing! But they are not bother to take the total on our credit card. So disappointed with this trip ... thanks to Princess! Read Less

I was on the repositioning cruise from Copenhagen to Genoa. Somewhere off the coast of Portugal I slipped and broke my leg. Purely an accident. The problem came, though, when the Dr. insisted it was unnecessary to do an x-ray and said my ankle was sprained. I said it was more than that. He said it wasn't and sent me to my cabin. I had to step up on my leg to get into the bathroom. I complained to the Dr. about it but was told it was fine and to take an Ibuprofen. The Dr. saw me the next day (he would only see me after we left Barcelona, rather than before or during the day). He reiterated it was just sprained and implied I was being a baby because I complained that it was more than a sprain. During the time I was confined to my cabin my meals were brought to me, at no charge. Each meal (3 times a day) was boiled chicken breast and plain white rice. I asked for water and was told I couldn't use my pre-paid coupons for water and would have to be charged for it, since I wasn't getting it from either a bar or restaurant. I insisted that when we arrived in Genoa I be taken to the hospital. The medical dept. arranged for a taxi to take me. I was taken to a private clinic where an xray showed my leg was broken. I was put back into a taxi and taken to the emergency room of the public hospital. They confirmed that my leg was broken and that I needed surgery. I had surgery, spent a week in an Italian hospital and flew home. Since then I've contacted MSC over a dozen times. Even though I've been promised return calls with an offer of resolution, it has never happened. I've emailed them documentation. No response. I was told they had to talk personally to the Chairman of the Board to resolve the situation. All I was asking for was the reimbursement of the medical fees I was charged onboard the ship. Prior to the incident, the cruise was ok but not great. On a par with Carnival. But their handling of my medical emergency is inexcusable. Read Less

We have done quite a few cruises with Princessand have been delighted with them . The new majestic was something we were looking forward to . Unfortunately we found it very boring and was glad to get off . When asked why things were not happening we were told it was meant for the Asian market even though Australian, British and Americans were the largest crowd on board . Sail away parties was obsolete and very rarely did a live band play on deck so we could all have fun ,the deck space was also very small. The outdoor cinema was okay but having to watch constant repeats of music videos was poor. The majectic was suppose to have the best of the best but I think they have missed the mark . Sun lounges were constantley in the sun no shade area , unless you wanted to sit at a table with chairs . Very uncomfortable and uninviting . Zumba was done on an open deck in the extreme heat. The entertainment was poor . The cruise director and his staff seemed only able to do trivia. If this had been our first Princess cruise it would be our last . The indoor pool smelt so bad of chlorine and in the evening this area became the disco which did not work. The cruise tours were very expensive and the one we took was very rushed therefor we cancelled other tours . Overall the experience was not good , I think Princess has got this one all wrong . Matter of fact my cousin and I are coming back on the sunshine in October with other family members who have not been on a cruise before so I hope and pray we have as much fun as we did when we went in may. I can not wait to get back on the sunshine. I loved the games they played with the music. The club on the boat was very very fun. The drinks were amazing the kiss on the lips is the best yet. Was a 4 hour wait just to get on the boat, therefore we hardly had anytime to enjoy the amenities. During the 4 hour wait partially we were in an area where there were no seats, no water, no food. My husband actually left as he is not well and could not wait that long. My breakfast on the Sunday morning (eggs benedict) was cold, i had to practically beg for coffee at the breakfast. i had a snack at 11, the Pizza i had to roll up as it was so thin and greasy. Dinner food was very bland. There were 15 of us and some ordered the prime rib was i was told was good but the salmon was extremely bland and the crawfish etufee was only mildly spiced. My key card demagnetized when i was going back to my state room at 12 midnight, went down and waited for an hour and a half to get a new key. There were at least 5 other people with the same issue as well as numerous people trying to pay their bills prior to a line up in the morning. Instead of having a second line up (as this was an obvious issue that took 5 minutes when i finally got to the desk) had to wait an hour and a 1/2. I ordered several beverage packages, they did not take off my card, but had to be delivered to my room. I called and asked for a robe, but was told they were all being laundered. Read Less

OH MY. We have been on many many cruises with Royal Caribbean before, and this is BY FAR THE WORST ONE. (A bit of context: we have been on the Jewel of the Seas, and Oasis of the Seas, for example. So writing this review, it's based on our prior experiences.) We sailed from Honolulu to Vancouver, as a repositioning cruise, but I don't understand why the embarkation was 3+ HOURS! (photos showed how long the lineup was!) They didn't even explain (before or after) why it was taking so long, I felt they owed everyone an apology! Especially the elderly who had to wait that long, with no A/C, hot, and someone fainted!!! After that terrible first day, we barely got on the ship to partake on the mandatory life boat safety drill! Dining was a disaster. DO NOT DO "MY TIME". It's not YOUR time, it's the SHIPS' time. Cascades, deck 4 was terrible. The hostess told us the wrong time for our dinner reservations, so when we showed up at the time she told us, our table was given away! We had selected 5:30pm online before we went on board, and they said the "shore didn't communicate with the ship", so we didn't have a spot. Had to wait over 30 minutes in line for the first three nights just to get seated, and this was during the second seating! We just went to the Jewel of the Seas (same class of ship) in November, and we recognized the same menus, but the food was so much better on the Jewel! The food sucked in the dining room (exception: key lime pie), things tasted as if they were just defrosted and then cooked right away (especially the seafood! how disappointing!). This is the first time I think the windjammer food surpassed the dining room's food! On one of the nights, a party had booked a wedding function late in the night, and our room unfortunately was right underneath the quill and compass bar on deck 6. Our room thudded, you could hear exactly what song was being played! And they didn't do anything about it, since it was booked for a function. So we couldn't sleep past 2am, wasting our last day in Maui. The ship is showing it's age. The chairs' upholstery at windjammer was ripping or scratched, showing the cushion underneath. Bars and rails around the ship were rusting (especially Windjammer) and just needs a fresh coat of paint. Our interior cabin's washrooms were dated, but at least clean. The only good things were: -our servers, very friendly -our stateroom assistant - so neat, and best towel animals! -Cruise itinerary, great 7 days in Hawaii, and 5 days for rest. However, it gets cold as soon as you leave Hawaii, so it's too cold to swim outside for the 5 days, leaving the solarium crowded. We made more friends from the terrible experiences that the positive ones. Honestly, it left such a bad taste in our mouth, that we may not ever sail with Royal Caribbean again. We called customer service, and met with the guest relations staff onboard, and nothing was done to keep our business. That's just too bad. Read Less

I thought this was the worst cruise ever my first and last time with Norweigen! It in the U.K. We question up to get off the ship in a 4 hour line. The officers hid and there were no announcements about what was happening. You had to go through customs even if you weren't getting off the ship. My friend who was handicapped had to wait in the 4 hour line this was much arguing and fighting with no one controlling the situation. Surges in the crowd it was clearly close to a riot. No staff around very unsafe conditions! In Brest France they didn't calculate the tide and had one small unstable gangplank for 3800 people. They literally had to carry elderly on board in wheelchairs one by one and carry people up the one person at a time gangplank I saw one elderly women fall down in the 2 hour line to get back on. Elderly were made to walk 3 football fields length to get back on the ship. In the United States this would be elder abuse. No one controlled the crowd. Very unsafe. I would never go on any Norweign cruise without checking whether the ship had docked there before. Cancelled my Spain cruise with them I was going to stay on to do the Baltics but ran off the ship in Copenhagen. The servers, bar and all other personnel were so nice and efficient. The food was great and the lines were long. I fault this captain and the officers for not controlling the riotous behavior they hid the entire trip. Next we had a propulsion problem and had to miss Brussels. Also we missed the Azores. We had a saying nan. Never again Norweigen the ship is too big to acclimate all. Also the internet didn't work at all you would have to stand in hour and half long line everyday to get credit and get your minutes back. It was very annoying. I saw a Norweign security person get into a fight with the operator in Rotterdam. This was a bad trip and I'm going back to the smaller ships Read Less

I chose this cruise because my husband and I had a lovely experience with a Transatlantic crossing on the NCL Star in 2013. Bad choice! The ship's decor is lovely, not garish and over the top like some cruise lines. The downside is that on a cooler weather cruise, without outdoor activities, the public areas can't accommodate the amount of people onboard. There were almost always waits to eat, even at O'Sheehans. The buffet was always packed, and the atrium, where most activities took place was way too small. Also, the noise from whatever was going on in the atrium carried all over the other public areas and was very annoying, especially in O'Sheehans. I don't know why they didn't utilize the theater during the day for some of these activities. Our mini suite was nice, a bit small to use the word suite, but it served our needs well. However, our cabin steward was very unfriendly and unhelpful. I always give cabin stewards a large extra tip because I know how hard they work, but this person got nothing because he deserved nothing. Overall the food was very good. We found that the smaller main dining rooms were the best places to have dinner and sometimes lunch. The Tropicana is too large and too noisy. O'Sheehans was also a good place for lunch. Not crazy about buffets in general, but the food that I had from there was tasty. The waits were very annoying, since the ship should have the resources to accommodate their passengers. The wait staff and bartenders were wonderful, even under extreme conditions with no time off for at least 12 days. Burn the Floor and Million Doller Quartet were great shows. I wanted to see some comedy shows, but they were all booked almost from the beginning of the cruise. (Again, too many people, to little space). The atrium activities were pretty cheesy, game shows, stupid language lessons (which always occurred during lunch at O'Sheehans), and G and PG rated 2 year old movies. A nice British lady gave lectures on ports that we were to visit. That was interesting if we had actually been able to visit them. Now for the nitty gritty of this review. This ship was completely mishandled and unorganized. I blame the captain, because things start at the top! We were supposed to have 6 days at sea, a stop in the Azores, 2 days at sea, Brest, France, Belgium, Southampton and Rotterdam. I was very excited about seeing these areas, although I had been to Ponta Delgada in the Azores twice before. As it turned out, the weather was too bad for us to dock in Ponta Delgada. Understandable, better to be safe. However, it turned into a stack of dominos falling over. The next stop was Brest,France. According to rumor on the ship, it was the first time that a cruise ship had docked there. Bad idea. There was one narrow gangplank for 4000 guests. There was very limited parking for busses, which meant that shore excursions were delayed for at least an hour. I had a shore excursion and left my husband on the ship. He has mobility problems, but wanted to get off to check out the port later in the day. While the shore excursions were out the tide went down by 8 feet. (Think the captain should have know the tide tables) which meant that the narrow gangplank for 4000 people had to be moved from the 5th to 7th floor, causing it to be very steep and treacherous. Anyone who did not have a shore excursion did not get off of the ship, and those of us who did had a 2-4 hour wait to get back on. That's not the end, while leaving Brest, the ship (whoever was driving it) hit something in the harbor that disabled one side of the propulsion system. The captain then announced that in order to repair this problem we would have to skip the stop in Belgium and go straight to Southampton. British immigration officials were originally to board the ship in the Azores to do the immigration inspection on a sea day, but because we were unable to stop there, it had to be done in Southampton. (Why they couldn't have gotten on in Brest to do this is beyond me!) I saw them come onboard at 1:00 PM while I was eating lunch. Long story short, I didn't get off of the ship to walk around Southampton until 5:00 PM. Shore excursions to London were cancelled, shuttle busses were no longer there, and stores in town were closing before most people could get off of the ship. Yes, we were there until 11:00PM, but not much to do there at night. For our trouble and disappointment, Norwegian gave each passenger (2 per room of course) a "generous" onboard credit of $100.00 each. We did get to Rotterdam half a day early, and enjoyed a lovely shore excursion of Amsterdam and the Dutch countryside. One more sea day and we got away from the Getaway. At our hotel in Copenhagen, there were many angry passengers sharing stories. No more Getaway for me Read Less

We chose this cruise as a way of celebrating our 50th anniversary and my husbands birthday. This would be our 4th transatlantic cruise, which we really enjoy, and there were some very interesting ports. We would end the cruise with 2 days in Copenhagen and then fly home. We had been on this ship a year earlier in the carribean and it seemed ok. We had a balcony cabin located mid ship and it was very nice. Good thing! we spent a lot of time in there. We were traveling with a group of 10 friends, all seasoned travelers. Even though it is free style dining we made reservations for all dinners prior to sailing, as 6 of us wanted to eat together. We always had to wait to sit down!! some nights up to 30 minutes!! On a few occasions the staff passed out champagne to pacify some very upset passengers, The food in the main dining rooms was marginal at best,ie turkey dinner was processed turkey roll. The food in the upscale restaurants was better but portions small and choices limited. The service was very slow, we had 6:30 reservations and didn't finish dinner until usually around 9:00. The buffett was a nightmare!! We slept in til about 10;00 on a few occasions, went to breakfast, no place to sit!!! People would sit there all day, reading, playing cards, chatting. The staff weren't really helpful, but probably couldn't ask people to move. I just left my plate and left!!!Breakfast in the dining room was an adventure, 45 minutes to get eggs, cold on arrival, and many times orders mixed up! The Gym was very small, not enough equipment for such a large ship. Also no shower or steam available unless you wanted to pay an additional hefty fee.The public areas also very limited for such a large ship, the atrium always crowded, people parked themselves there for the day. Some taking up to three chairs. The same people would be there 9am to 9pm!! If you came later to try to see what was going on or play trivia, too bad!! Women were actually knitting in the sunset bar, taking up most of the couches and chairs, and putting their bare feet on tables where drinks should go!!! Card room and library constantly packed!! There was not enough activity, we all thought very boring ship !! Entertainment was pretty good, but not enough of it!!The people working on the ship were always extremely pleasant and very courteous. They all worked very hard. Guest relations always a VERY long line!! Many very unhappy people. The worst part of the trip was not being able to get off the ship!!! We were scheduled to get off in the Azores, but due to very rough seas we couldn't get into port.Understandable, safety issues. The next port was Brest in France, we didn't book an excursion, but planned a few activities on our own. Since we didn't book an overpriced, very poor trip, we were discriminated against!!! We were not able to get off until 1:15 pm, we were due back at 2;30!! We didn't bother!! The next port was Southampton, again we didn't buy a ship excursion. We were not cleared to get off the ship until 5:30, as passport clearance was very slow and we were at the end of the line. Needless to say we didn't bother. During this time there was absolutely NOTHING to do!! Shops closed! Casino Closed! No Shows No Activities!! Our next port was to be Brugge in Belgium, Cancelled!! ? something wrong with the ship's propulsion unit???. We finally made it 2 days later to Rotterdam where .we finally got off the ship!!! Wonderful vibrant city. Then on to Copenhagen for 2 days before going home. I will probably do another transatlantic or transpacific and most likely a carribean, but NEVER on NCL! Also never recieved final statement before leaving ship.We have no idea if charges are accurate!!1 Read Less

We started our cruise from Miami to Europe with anticipation of a wonderful adventure. My friends and I had made plans and paid for three excursions - in the Azores, Brest France, and Rotterdam Holland - and we were especially looking forward to visiting with friends we haven't seen in many years while in Southampton England. So off we headed. The transatlantic crossing was fairly uneventful and there were no indications from the captain or crew of any disruption to our itinerary until we were actually at the Azores and prepared to disembark. The captain announced about 8am that morning that we were not stopping and that we were proceeding instead to Brest. The reason given was that the rough sea made it unsafe to dock safely at Ponta Delgada. We later heard unofficially that the ship was having mechanical difficulties that prevented us from docking in the Azores. (Whether this is true or not, we the passengers and the crew, were extremely disappointed at our inability to disembark after so many days at sea.). So on we proceeded for over 2 more days before reaching France. When we finally were allowed to disembark at Brest, we found that both the small port and the ship were very poorly equipped to handle the disembarkation of such a large number of passengers, approximately 3900 in total, using only one gangplank which was designed to accommodate only 20 people at a time. We spent a few hours just outside Brest touring a lovely garden before the rain started. By the way, we observed an elderly couple being denied room on our bus as the excursion had been overbooked. What a disappointment for them! When we returned to the port, rain was falling heavily and there was no shelter provided initially to the returning passengers who were waiting in a long line up to use the single gangplank. Both passengers disembarking and returning to the ship were required to use the one narrow gangplank, overloaded to at least twice its capacity, and very slippery in the rain. Sadly little or no provisions were made to help elderly or disabled passengers, many of whom stood in line in the pouring rain for several hours. This situation was a firm indication to us that the Getaway's officers were totally incapable of providing efficient leadership in solving problems and looking after their passengers. After some time standing in the rain, we saw three portable tents being set up to help shelter a very small part of the lineup. I watched later as the line extended an unbelievable distance, further than I was able to see from our balcony. Eventually a second gangplank was provided when the line became so long that it appeared we would be late departing. The next major disappointment was the captain saying we would skip Belgium entirely and continue on to Southampton. The decision, wisely or not, to skip the Azores had made the passport control process for England a major hurdle as it had to be done at the Southampton port. So now, we were missing a second port - Belgium. Despite arriving at a reasonable time in Southampton that morning, the slow, tedious, and once again extremely long line up for disembarkation through passport control, meant we did not get on dry land until 4:40pm. (Please note that we were lucky to even get off the ship at that time. Many other passengers eventually gave up in frustration.) As a result we missed our planned visit with our friends and were unable to do anything else as shops and museums were closing. In essence, that port was a third miss. The only highlight of our cruise was our stop in Rotterdam, little thanks to NCL who inadequately estimated the time needed for the excursion to Delft and the Haag. Another hour would have been needed to allow some souvenir shopping in the Haag. So, who are we to believe? When did NCL know there were mechanical problems with the Getaway? Was it even safe to leave Miami? Why could the crew and officers not do a better job on disembarkation and re-boarding of passengers? Is safety and comfort of the passengers not a priority? At this point, I won't even go into the overcrowding, noise levels, and ridiculous charging for what other cruise lines provide as a standard part of their service. Despite NCL stories and excuses, I honestly feel all passengers should be reimbursed for their entire cruise. Read Less

We departed Miami for a transatlantic cruise ending in Copenhagen. The drama started when we missed our port in the Azores. It was understandable as the seas were too rough to dock. Safety first. However, there were customs officials scheduled to board the ship in the Azores, their boarding would have given us time to clear customs for our stop in Southampton. We had a stop in Brest France prior to our Southampton stop and NCL could have had the 4 agents load our ship in Brest to save the time we need to explore Southampton. That didn't happen. So we missed the Azores, once again understandable due to safety. We then headed to Brest France. It took many of us 3 hours to leave the ship due to the very unorganized processing. By the time many of us got off the ship, we had to load almost immediately in order to meet the required boarding time. It took many of us another 1.5 hours to board. There were problems with the gangplank so only one was available to offload a ship with more than 4000 passengers. I would suggest NCL not bring a ship of that size to Brest again. When we pulled out of Brest, apparently the ship was damaged. We were told a prop was damaged which slowed our available cruising speed. We later learned we would have to skip a port in order to end our cruise on time. They decided to skip Brugge Belgium. We heard many passengers comment that Belgium was their main reason for selecting this cruise. We wanted to see that location in the worst way. Very disappointing. We then make it to Southampton and we have challenges clearing customs as they only brought the 4 person team on the ship the morning we were scheduled to depart. We got off the ship late and although they still gave us the 4 hours we were supposed to have in London, we were there too late to enjoy many of the attractions. We were supposed to be there during the day and instead we were there in the afternoon, into the evening. We didn't get back to the ship until 11:30PM. We did get $200 ship credit but that certainly didn't make up for the disappointments. NCL could do better to attract customers on this cruise back to the cruise line. We've been on other cruise lines and we'll use them versus NCL. So sad as the staff tried extremely hard to keep the customers happy. Also, communication to passengers was not as open as we would have liked to see. There were several times on the cruise that we were not communicated the plan for the contingencies when things went wrong. We heard this from many passengers. Read Less

When we got to Southampton they only send 4 immigration officers for 4,000 People...line was around the ship n not once did the captain give N explanation. We had tickets for excursion for 11 n never got off ship till 4 pm....one of worst experiences ever. Not once did we see anyone in uniform to give us explanation. Last person off ship was 5:15!!! Speciality restaurant: Ocean Blue served frozen stone crabs claws n over done lobster. Smoke from casino permeated the three floors all had to go through. NEVER will I go on another NCL cruise...when I wrote them telling them my thoughts they basically said they gave us an extra 100@ credit n that was it...horrid people skills, treated like cattle. A birthday experience we won't forget anytime soon. The captain should have been more communicative ..no one should been treated like we were waiting . The speaker who have the talks about the ports was terrible...started always late n complained about the lighting guy every talk. Gym way too small...some treadmills not working. Best part of dining was Cagneys...give it a 5 plus. Read Less

I booked this trip with the hopes of seeing Europe for the first time while being able to tackle the time changes more gracefully on a daily basis rather than in one blow via flight. I also have been on quite a few cruises (one Norwegian ship in the past) and have loved every experience so I went in optimistic and trusting..this turned out to be a terrible mistake. The only true positives I can attest to would be the entertainment staff and the great shows that were put on, and that we ultimately made it to Copenhagen. The comedians were hilarious, Million Dollar Quartet and Burn the Floor were also must-sees, though many shows were reserved shortly after we left Miami on Day 1. I was able to reserve all the shows I wanted to see (also on Day 1, however) with no issues through the Norwegian iConcierge app. I will also mention that the entertainment staff that ran events such as Escape the Big Top, did many of the trivia games, etc. were terrific and a joy to see around the ship. Service was sub-par, long wait times even when sitting, had to ask for water, food to be picked up, and for fresh silverware on multiple locations and felt as though I was a burden. The food was average, but I had trouble finding more than one option per menu as I am vegetarian..so many of the times I just went to the buffet to have my options open. Customer service was a nightmare..always with at least 25-30 people in the line no matter the time of day, especially as the cruise progressed. You could tell they had to feel flustered at times due to the yelling and screaming that could be heard throughout the atrium at times; should have been indicative of the quality lost through the cruise and morale was evident. Our room was an interior on deck 8. You had to pass the automatic doors that led to the outdoor walkway so it was always very cold and drafty through the halls. Would have to wear a jacket just to navigate through the area if I were to get breakfast in the morning or step out after the sun had set. The room served our needs however and I do not have any complaints with the cabin itself. We had issues with our room steward from day 1 with our room only being made up once close to 9pm and not formally meeting our steward until the end of day 2/maybe even day 3. This is not to say we expected an entire turn-around in our room multiple times a day..we wanted the beds to be made at least once before around 8pm. This spanned out to multiple talks with the Housekeeping Director, her direct supervisor, and our steward directly as things continued to escalate. We didn't feel secure with our belongings due to agitation and couldn't trust that our room would be made up when we would come back to the room. We also would make it a point to steer clear of our room during the entirety of her shift (which she shared with us), aka our leisure time was determined by her schedule and whether or not she could get to our room at least once a day. We tried to solve these issues with our steward directly as we felt uneasy and uncomfortable with the way things were progressing up the chain of command and ultimately got to a silent agreement that the bare minimum--at least with the current track record of our voyage--would suffice. The ports have been touched on by other reviews from our voyage but I will also touch on it briefly. We only successfully docked at 2/3 of our scheduled ports, this is with me grouping in Southampton where we not only arrived 5 hours late, but the disembarkation process took almost the same amount of time depending on when your group was allowed to try for the Tropicana Room where Immigration processing was taking place. Upon speaking with many guests I learned that they missed their excursions, or did not book one and ended up disembarking after everything had been closed. I booked the London on your Own tour and did not reach London until around 5pm. This still includes around a 3 hour wait time with immigration. It was tough seeing so many guests struggle and be uncomfortable as we waited in line for so long without access to a bathroom, snacks or drinks. Our time was "extended" until 8:45pm and left us with less than half the time said on our itinerary. We made the most of our time and truly were just excited to be on land before getting back on. We did not go to Ponta Delgada and Brussels, and had issues with the propulsion systems beginning in Brest that were to be remedied in Southampton (the reason we could not get to Brussels). It is worrisome when even the cruise staff partakes in the overall gossip attempting to suss out what was going on. For missing these ports and the overall mismanagement of this voyage we were offered $100 per person in a non refundable cruise credit..aka money that must go directly back to their pockets. Was more insulting than it was helpful. We were given refunds for our excursions. I would never go back on a Norwegian ship, nor would I recommend. Read Less

Worst cruise we ever have been on, no help from the crew (officers) every thing was very badly organized. The ship is not build so it can assure that there are enough indoor space for every one when the Wheather dosent permit you to be out door. All our troubles began when we should dock in the Azores. due to the size of the ship, the wind and the waves the captain ant the pilot decided it was not safe to dock in the Azores. Everybody was very disappointed but it was understandable because safety always comes first. Then after 11 days at sea we should dock in Brest France that is famous due to the tide. Unfortunately neither the ship or the captain had read the tidetables from Brest – you can find them on the internet. This is very unprofessional and very unsafe. Because nobody has studied the tide tables and the size of the ship the gang way could not be launched from deck 5, which is normal. The gangway was set up from deck 7, a very unstable ans shaking solution that only allowed very few passengers at the time on the gangway. Because of that we had to wait in line in about 3 hours in the ships alleys, and it seemed like the air coinditioning was not working. Due to all the standing in line we were only offered very poor and little information, it was very close to a riot among the passengers. All in all a very bad organized situation that was handled very bad by the crew. After we left Brest after 2 hours in land the captain told us there was a electrical problem that caused a speed problem, and we could not sail full speed. That meant we were delayed in Southmpton by 5- hours an we have to cancel bruges. Again very little nformation from the crew. When we arrived in Southampton NCL had not ensured the imigration proces to take part before arriving in southampton. Because it was a mandatory imigration again we have to wait in line in 4 hours before we could get in land. Again shame on the crew because there was very poor information, and again a very bad organized handled situation, very unprofessional. After we left Southampton the captain told us we would receive a compensation at 200$ per cabin, unfortunately no one told us we have to spend it on board. Because we already have a drinking package and bought 4 special dining we could not use the 200 $. We thought then that the 200 $ will have reduced our onboard gratuities, nobody ever told us we should use it on items we did not need. Nobody can show us where it says that we should use the 200 $ on board. When we arrived in copenhagen we complained over the missing reduction in our gratituies, but we were told that it was the policy of the company and they would not refund the 200 $. After we got home we again have complained to NCL in Miami but again they refuse to let us have the refusion we all were promised by the captain. We just receive a standard letter that says in their opinion we should not be compensated So NCL you should be ashamed to let your customers sail their own sea and give them back what was promised when we were sailing. Because og that l can only conclude that NCL dont want us as customers in the future, and we can only recommend that all passengers in the future avoid NCL, because of their attitude and the missing service. So again we wil recommend that next time you go cruising, you find a cruise line that takes the customers seriousely and can provide you with the things you are promised by the company and the captain. Besides that our cabin, a balcony, was very small with no access to the hanging arrangement. We were staying in cabin 10126 Read Less

This cruise was HORRIBLE. NCL is focused only on profits and not customer experience. Once they have your money they ignore you. To summarize A: we were to stop at 5 European ports before our arrival in Copennhagen, we only made 1 of the 5. B: The leadership team repeatedly lied to customers and were arrogant. C: They have cut almost every amenity, and you now have to pay extra for everything. D: We got food poisoning. Please pass the word: CANCEL any NCL cruises you have planned and never book with them again. Tell your friends, and ask them to tell their friends, and keep spreading the word! The Details: A: Missed ports. First stop in the Azores, the crew was not able to bring the ship in due to wind! Are you kidding me? Are you professionals, apparently not. We missed our private tour. Second Stop Brest France. We were able to dock but the crew could not figure out how to set up gangway. This crew had no seamanship skills. After 2.5 hours we gave up trying to get off the ship half the day was already gone. The gangway was unsafe, one passenger was badly injured. Upon leaving Brest the captain announced an engine problem, which would result in us arriving 4 hours late into Southampton the next day. Third stop Southampton arrived at Noon instead of 8AM. Crew detained all passengers who were not on an NCL tour so they could exit first. We waited in line 4.5 hours, got off at 430PM. We missed our private tour. Everything in town closed at 5PM there was nothing left to do. Day wasted. Fourth stop ZeBruges CANCELLED. We had to stay in Southampton late to repair the engine so there was not time to make the next port. Fifth Stop Rotterdam. Actually were able to get off the ship B: Crew Lies to customers and Arrogant attitudes. The trouble started at Embarkation. Gold members no longer receive priority boarding that was removed. Apparently after 10 cruises your no longer a valued customer. We brought a 12 pack of water on board, after three days we were told it was confiscated but we could buy their water at $3.50 a bottle. A $300 holding charge was placed on my credit card, even though I had no expenses. Bedding in our room was blood stained and yellow. We ended up at customer service almost every day for food or other issues. Customer service never told the truth. They lied about food that was available. They lied about how far towns were from each port and if there was public transportation (and pushed their own tours and transportation). They lied about how we would be able to disembark. We were told we could leave as soon as the ship was cleared but they only allowed customers on their tours to leave until they were all off the ship, causing the rest of us to miss our tours. We were physically DETAINED and prevented from leaving. They refused to make any accommodation of any type for all the issues, told us to call NCL HQ when we got home. One officer told a frustrated passenger "it's not our fault the engine is broken, its just bad luck you will miss a port". Another officer threatened to have a passenger arrested and removed from the ship. They could not have cared less about their passengers and it showed in their actions and attitudes. We were prisoners and they did what ever they wanted. C: Amenities removed, everything extra. Nothing is included anymore. No chocolate in the rooms. No maps or literature at ports. Your allowed one beach towel and if you do not return it a $25 charge per incident. Almost no snacks in the bars. No lobsters on menu anywhere unless you purchase the super upgraded dining package. You can see and feel that they are cutting every little cost so they can make more money. D: Food poisoning at the Teppanaki specialty dining restaurant on day four. We lost three complete days being unable to eat and drink and did not feel normal for a week. This was the WORST cruise, I have ever been on, and the worst vacation in my entire life. NEVER use NCL, please pass the message to everyone you know, and ask them to do the same. Read Less
