We chose this cruise because of where Connie was taking us, we hadn't been to Colombo, Cochin, Goa, Mumbai, Muscat or Abu Dhabi. (We had been to Phuket and Dubai several times before). After reading many reviews about Connie before, we really didn't know what to expect as there were so many conflicting reviews both good, bad and ugly. So I've decided to write a review on our experience on aboard and Connie in general. Connie herself is in great shape, nice and clean and everything was working on board, with no smells. In regards to activities onboard there were many choose from, but we chose to relax and just take in the sun on sea days and venture out when docked at all the ports. In regards to Shore Excursions we did choose one from the ship, but it turned out terrible so we complained and received a 30% refund. To be fare to the Shore Excursion team it was the tour guide who was terrible not the places we visited. Cabin, WOW we had no idea that it was going to be that BIG, we had an Oceanview Category 4 Stateroom Number 8003 and our cabin attendant was absolutely superb. Dining was easy, we just rocked up and asked to sit with 6 other guests and within a couple of minutes we were seated and every night apart from 2 nights we sat with different guests and the food was great, we tried just about everything they had on the menus, with top service all around. Entertainment on board this cruise was really really good compared to some horror stories we heard, in fact all over the ship the entertainment was good. The Ports, well what can I say they were simply fabulous, Phuket jus simply laid back and just did what we wanted to do that included catching up with friends (using free Wifi of course), Colombo it was a pretty place and would like to go back again and spend more time, Cochin, well we kind of liked it but Goa and Mumbai were much much better and overall we thought India was kind of organised chaos. Muscat was a beautiful city where the mountains reach out and touched the sea and the city and harbour met. Aub Dhabi, did'n really do any thing for us, it looked like another suburb of Abu Dhabi. Now for the best part, on Connie there is this special place called the Martini Bar, we lived there every night of the cruise just meeting the most loverly people you could ever meet from all over the globe and the 4 bar tenders put on the best Martini/Cocktail shows I ever seen, pouring 15 Cocktails in one go, it was simply the best, well done lads. Overall we had a WOW of a time on Connie will be sailing on her again in the very near future. Read Less

We are cruising for several years now with Norwegian and we are pleased with their service and free style cruise is what we liked most. My wife have never been to Australia, Indonesia and Singapore so I decided to take her to that cruise. We had a balcony a couple besides our stateroom is my wife's high school classmate from 1971 and 6 other new guest with NCL and first time cruisers. We had a great time and and had a lot of specialty dinners. Our group had received a lot of surprises from the Senior Officers that we have met on previous cruises with Norwegian and made our cruise more enjoyable not only for us previous cruisers but for our 6 other friends that we brought with us. They even sent fresh tropical fruits from Indonesia was sent to all our cabins. Shore excursions was great that we all got into the same bus every time we book. Read Less

Everything was seamless- the boat was easy to navigate, crew went above an beyond to ensure a great experience. Our inside stateroom was perfect for the two of us... many storage compartments and beds and pillows were super comfortable. Many activities for teens. Entertainment was either very good or disappointing but the parties and outdoor movies were great. Food was delicious in both dining rooms. Valentines was celebrated with a fantastic chocolate buffet. I truly appreciated how the staff encourages people to wash hands. Issues: the app isn’t reliable , announcements can’t be heard in the cabin, smoking areas are not located in great areas..... casino stinks of smoke and the smoking area on deck 11 is too close to the doors and towel station... several of the staff at the customers service desk were not fluent in English which led to mistakes and misunderstandings. Our stateroom assistant was outstanding.... he couldn’t do more for us. Read Less

We chose this to fill in the gap between visiting Singapore and Hong Kong. A disappointing start at embarkation. We were concierge class but no effort had been made for us to embark quickly and we had to find staff to usher us through. As it was we boarded at 1pm, we had been invited for luncheon valid until 1.30pm. We could have missed this. Our luggage did not get to our cabin until 8pm which we consider very poor. We dined in the restaurant each evening, second sitting. Every time we complained on the temperature of the food and why supposedly hot food was served on cold plates. We were not aware that we had a classic beverage package until the penultimate evening, If we had known we would not have purchased a wine package. Why were we not informed of this when the wine package was purchased? We had a Shore Excursion to Na Trang, Vietnam, where our Guide always seemed to be in a hurry getting off the coach and walking well ahead of the group leading them along busy streets and across roads with no consideration for those who could not keep up. We wanted to try NCL for the first time, we have cruised Disney and Princess for year. The ship and food were great, but the customer service was really bad. Honestly about 50-50, half the staff were very friendly the other half were very rude. I do not think we will be going back on NCL after this experience. It is a shame because we really liked the ship and the food. I did hear from crew this ship in particular has a bad reputation for the management, so hopefully that is the case. It is also not family friendly in any of the entertainment, so with all the activities for kids the nightlife has nothing for the kids. Spa is behind right now so they are pushing very hard to sell you anything if you have any treatments. We really enjoyed the specialty dining apart from the service by the staff. Read Less

The breadth of ports was very attractive, from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles, the long way. It enabled visiting places that one might not see otherwise. Prices for cabins with an "obstructed view" were excellent & the view was still quite good. Dining & entertainment were terrific! Condition of cabin was very fine. A couple of excursions were horrible and many very over-priced. Sailing around the tip of S. America was lovely and very interesting. The crew failed to assure that all passengers had valid travel documents. This resulted in our being kept in Montevideo for several extra hours & arriving in Buenos Aires about 9 hours late. That meant hundreds of people missed their flights home & we missed our flight to visit Iguazu Falls. Plus, hundreds had to sit in a non-air conditioned terminal while waiting many hours for the ship to arrive. Some Princess employees should be fired for that, or shot! Fitness Center was the best of any ship that we have been on. Princess over sold the excursion to the Christ The Redeemer Statue in Rio. Result was standing around for hours due to not enough vehicles for the number of passengers. Tour should have taken 90 to 100 minutes. It took over 4 1/2 hours. At a couple of ports, Princess only bought space for one tender boat at a time to dock. This resulted in the trip on the tender boats to take 50 to 60 minutes when it should have taken 15 to 20. The staff at the Excursion Desk were not empowered to satisfy the many, many dissatisfied customers. Read Less

The dining room and cabin steward were great. The ship just came out of dry dock and there were technical problems with the Movies at Sea on deck, that was a bit disappointing. Many workers came along on the first leg out of dry dock to finish up maintenance, no big deal - just something we noticed. The Panal Canel was everything we hoped for as this was our first time through the canel. The main dining room experience was great, our regular waiter and assistant waiter for dinner were excellent. The times we went to breakfast and lunch (anytime dining) was equally great. The buffet, or cafeteria as some call it was what you might expect from a cruise ship. My significant other requires gluten free food and I give Princess an A+++. The head waiter was very accommodating and even had the galley prepare special desserts for her (and other passengers) the following night for dinner. Awesome job! We didn't arrange any port excursions through Princess; therefore, no comments on those areas. Read Less

The service was good. The room was kept clean and orderly on our schedule. The food staff and the bust boys were always courteous. The busy bartenders had kept their smiles up the entire duration. "Neli" rocks. The entire range of drinks they had made were terrific. Get the drinking package, it is a great investment. Made every port on-time, except one slight delay. With cooperating weather, we were able to do all of our excursion pre-purchased on the NCL website. The excursion staff on shore were friendly, knowledgeable, entertaining, and accommodating. The food at Ocean Blue was amazing and still quite memorable. The Teppanyaki had us laughing the entire duration with good food to follow. "Burn the Floor," has some amazing dancers, period. After a great day on shore with an excursion, the adequate time alloted for shopping, and then a great dinner at the various restaurants on the Getaway, we were able to dance and drink the night away with themed music at "H2O" every night, followed by more clubbing at "Bliss." To us, that felt like such a great bonus, a gift from the ship we had not anticipated. Compared to the previous cruise we were just on a month prior with Holland America Line, it was night and day. Wish I had a chance to review the Veendam on here with you. Overall, Norwegian Cruise Line Getaway has a much happier staff. We had felt that ship vibe from the get-go. A happier staff equals a happier trip for all of the customers on board (and returning customers). It is also a great reflection of a successful business. In the end, we had met great people who are now friends. Great photos were taken. Great memories were created. I'll forever miss the "washi-washi" hand-sanitizing girls on deck. Thanks to them we didn't get sick this time. Thank you NCL! Read Less

It was our sewenth cruise with Norwegian. We were three times on Star, two times on Spirit, one time on Geteway , and this time on Gem. We decided for this cruise, because, after Geteway, we concluded, that we prefer smaller ships, and 19 days for the price we get, was a good deal. All the ports were very interesting. We were two cupels, and made private excursion, because we prefer to be independent. Embarkation was not so quick, like we used to have by Norwegian. Also we used to meet concierge in port. This time she wait on us in ship, colect all of us , toeld us where we can eat, where and when we can meet her.We used , to get more information first day from concierge. Food was very good , no complaint. A lot activites and , lot music everywhere on the ship. Fantastic atmosphere. Service very, very good. We spend a lot of time on 13 deck ,smoking area, and water Nikola was so nice, all the time with big smiling, made for us fantastic coctailes. Alltogether, this was fantastic cruise, and 19 days went so quick. Gem is beautiful ship, with fantastic stuf , from captain , who informed us daily about all interesting things for guests ,until our steward. Only our bathroom in caben disappointed us a little bit, and concierge was inapropierte. Read Less

This cruise was from Sydney to adelaide, so it worked perfect for my friend and I who live in both of these places. Loved leaving from Sydney harbour and how they played some opera music I thought that was awesome. We saw a pod of dolphins and some seals which was amazing and going pass Wilson’s promentry was spectacular. I particularly enjoyed the comedy and the piano playing by John Milligan. I went to his show two nights because I enjoyed it so much. I was just very relaxed and loved being at sea. Our cabin was great but maybe a little smelly when we got on, a bit of room spray and was all good. Our cabin person Nash was really friendly and helpful. We used the gym and the spa which was really lovely. It is a bit hard to do yoga and do the exercise machines when the boat is swaying, but was an experience. It was sad to dock and have to come back to reality. Thanks for a great time. Read Less
