It was 13 days from NYC to Amsterdam I'm an experienced cruiser. This is the first time I have experienced such a sick ship. Norovirus was rampant from day two! Sick passengers or crew were allowed aboard this ship! This was 13 days of pure displeasure. Many of the crew had bad attitudes. I experienced one of the Supervisors making excuses regarding sanitation methodology. With this type of Management attitude, no wonder the virus continued to expand. I missed two ports and NEVER once heard an apology from the staff. The gym was closed. Many other on board amenities were curtailed -- however, the Casino was always open when not in Port. Self-service at the buffet was curtailed. You had to beg for sugar, salt, pepper, catsup, etc. If you contacted the norovirus, you were quarenteened in your cabin, with your cabin key confiscated. You food was delivered to you on paper plates with plastic utensils. If you had a cabin mate, you could sneak out with them and continue to spread the germs, with no reprocussions unless caught! Thanks to a "sneaker", to whom apparently rules do not apply, I got sick and so did one of my friends! Norwegian, you need better sanitation and better monitoring of sick passengers. I was very disappointed with my cruise and will think long and hard before booking another NCL cruise. The specialty dining was great at Le Bistro, good at La Cuchina, very good at Moderno. I missed the dinner at Cagney's due to the Norovirus. The two dining rooms had very good food, but they tend to seat solo cruisers in the middle of the floor, and couple's get the better tables. Us solo cruisers DO PAY FOR TWO, and only eat for one. The service was hit or miss. Many of the crew had bad attitudes, probably because they had to do the work of multiple crew members because of the crew members who were sick with the Norovirus. I missed a lot of the entertainment, trying to avoid the Norovirus. When I did go to a show, there were groups of passengers talking and being disruptive during the shows. The entertainers were very talented. The trivia was strange, not really testing knowledge, but asking a crew member's age. Read Less

The itinerary was exactly what I was looking for. However, as soon as we were on board, the upsell was relentless. I began to feel very very pressured and uncomfortable. The cruise across the Atlantic was wild. However, it was unnerving when the captain came on and said he didn't anticipate the weather. We were rocking bad ... 12 to 15 ft waves. I thought they could avoid those issues. Then the noro virus hit. We heard over half the passengers were quarantined ... and 200 crew. The captain came on and said anyone trying to leave their cabin would be removed from the ship!!!! Many of the staff were saying they had never seen it this bad. The food was less than appetizing and we spoke with one family who got food poisoning. The food was consistently repeated (tasteless and some seemed rotten). There was nothing high end other than the specialty restaurants. The entertainment tried, but it appears they just couldn't afford or didn't attempt to gather decent entertainment. There was nothing much to do all day with 6 days at sea. I was expecting activities all day. We ended up watching the same 4 movies the entire trip. They just kept repeating themselves. Even airlines have a better choice of movies. My friend (who was not sick) ... went to medical to purchase some Imodium (accidentally forgot it) and they charged her $219 for 10 pills. He never examined her, just sold her the pills. It appeared the crew was instructed not to discuss anything with passengers after a few days, and they began to get irritable (probably double and triple shifts). Dublin (beautiful city) was a horror trying to get off the ship. Six shuttles for over 1000 people. Nightmare!!! I would not recommend this cruise line. Read Less

I chose the cruise for the itinerary. I was traveling with my 80 year old mother and we really liked the ports. Both of us are well traveled but never could we have expected such a disaster of a cruise. I can let the terrible weather not bother me. Or even find fun in the 50 mPH winds with 30degree F wind chill. That’s Mother Nature and what can you do. Since we didn’t get sea sick it was almost calming feeling the sway. But unfortunately that was not the case for many. I feel we had an experienced captain who thinks it’s ok to threaten everyone that he will throw you off the ship if you don’t do what he says. I also feel that based on the fact that I heard the number of sick people by day 3 was 27 and by day 10 was over 1000 of the 2500 passengers. Even if it was your traveling companion sick you too were quarantined to your cabin. They ACTUALLY sent in these poor crew members dressed in hazmat type gear to clean up after these sick people. I’m very sure the cruise company made a lot of money by forcing people to see the ship doctor at $200 minimum a visit. Even room service is an extra charge at $7.95 per person if you use it and that is per time you use it. I was told Norwegian doesn’t like seeing dirty dishes in the hallways, so this stops people from ordering in the middle of night. So no dishes in hallways, but there were ALWAYS cleaning carts blocking halls. You are also not allowed to bring even a water bottle on board. The crew will happily make you pour it out. They lie and say it’s security like at the airport. But that is a lie. It’s to force passengers to do it one way only and that's to spend on Norwegian. This company is a bunch of people acting like Natzi’s and risking our lives from poor cleaning, poor security and a crew that liked to bully passengers. Even if an announcement was very very important they weren’t smart enough to have it in every room instead only in some. It’s their way of keeping the passengers in the dark. The excursion company that Norwegian used is more than awful. Plus in Dublin since my excursion was in the afternoon and you had to use your excursion tickets as your tender ticket, the Pearl crew would not let me off early to go into Dublin. Since my excursion was in the countryside, I didn’t get to see ANY of Dublin. They wouldn’t let us off the ship. People also got hurt on tenders due to not having caring staff helping people get on and off. If I hadn’t. Even there for my 80 year old mother I’m sure she would have fallen. I’m Le Havre the Security was a joke. The terminal staff left promptly at their end of shift regardless of people standing in line to get packages, purses and bags scanned, and for people to walk through scanners. Norwegian let more than 50 people just walk on like it didn’t matter. In FRANCE!! Are they kidding me. Even things like broken locks on doors to balcony’s didn’t matter. I reported my two locks broken 8 times. Nothing in mini fridge and was accused if asking for an empty mini bar. It took 5 days to get mini bar partially filled. Was told by cabin steward that no Diet Pepsi was available for mini bars but bar manager said it would be filled. I got used to three things being a constant comment from the guest relations staff. One-just lie, two, say you don’t know, and three just say no. Not one map of one town or any info was included in nightly program like on every other cruise line. This cruise line is cheap and even if you have a mini suite you get the same amenities as a inside cheaper room. Sure there are free packages for drinks but the tipping for two people on this so called free drink package was in excess of $550 total for 2. Then there is extra tipping on the so called free specialty restaurants. They just keep asking for more money and gave less quality, less everything! I probably would have saved by going on a more expensive cruise line then with all the nickel and diming Norwegian does. We were given one of those really small bars of soap for two people to share for 13nights. Even when it fell into pieces we weren’t given a new one. Many days we couldn’t even get a bath mat for the tub/shower. And forget getting more than one body, one hand and one wash cloth for towels per person. No way no how. Do not go on this line for any reason. Even though we were treated like crap and it was our first cruise with Norwegian, they treated people who had spent more than 150 nights traveling with them worse. What a horrible company!! Read Less

We will never cruise Norwegian Cruise Lines again. They were very expensive but low quality compared to any other cruise line we've sailed. Didn't even include water or coffee in their vert expensive drink package. Even their Specialty dining was terrible. They nichol and dime you to death....literally bill you for 20% gratuities. We were with a friend group of 7, and we all agreed we will never sail Norwegian again. The only thing good we have to say about Norwegian is they had the best on board Musicians we have seen on a cruise, and our room stuard was excellent. They had the most inconsistent mixed drinks I have ever had. They say they care about customers satisfaction, but it is apparent that their profit is their only true concern. We had a back to back transatlantic 24 day cruise and never saw a person win a decent prize at bingo even though they charged more for bingo than any other cruise line. Read Less

35th anniversary, wanted to get to some highlights in northern Europe - first cruise (and most likely last ever) My wife rolled her ankle the day of the cruise and was experiencing some discomfort so we went to the medical services on the ship. There was a couple there before us, the wife looked like death warmed over and we listened to them fill out a form of where they ate over the last 3 days. They went into the doctor's office first, when they came out the doctor gave the woman some pills and told them they were quarantined in their cabin. Then the doctor asked us in the office and placed my wife on the examination table, checked her out and then talked to us while we sat in the chairs in his office. The seas were pretty rough on the Atlantic... first time on the ocean... already got charged $180 from the doctor for the ankle... so when my wife got sick we presumed it was motion sickness - at least at the start. They forced us all to go through customs on the boat, called us large numbers forcing us to stand outside in the cold and waves - my wife threw up standing in line - good times. She got better, then I came down with it - I have never had sweat drip off my nose like that. The doctors quarantined me, we missed the first excursion (one of the few days without rain). While we were quarantined, the captain came on and told everyone if the were caught outside their room we would be kicked of the ship at the next port - then he repeated it in the same announcement. My first response was - this is our out!!! My second response was - sick people probably won't report themselves as being sick now. My biggest complaint is that they waited too long to get serious about the sickness (shutting down the gym, controlling the dining areas). For days after the quarantine you still won't enjoy food again - especially when you have to see someone else's puke on the floor in the dining room. The excursion disembarkation needed some help with planning - at the end of the day I wouldn't mind a 3 hour delay if I could have stayed in my room or grabbed some breakfast - imagine several hundred people waiting in a room, booing the cruise activity director as she asked them to please be patient (for the 40th time). The longest delay involved tethered boats. My wife and I finally got on the tethered boat and it was pretty frightening - big gaps as the boat separated away from the boat, raised higher than the step off landing, and dropped away from the step off landing. They helped us on the lifeboat then we were on our own - there was an older woman screaming in horror, I lost my footing and hit a corner with my shoulder (glad it wasn't my wife's head). A young Norwegian employee performed the sign of the cross and later put on a life vest (I got that on video). They ended up disconnecting the boat before it was full (separating one of the families) - they re-positioned the lifeboat on the other side of the ship to finish loading. There was a lot of pressure to get folks off that ship - but that was dangerous. The dude who cleaned our rooms was awesome - the folks who served us in the dining areas were great - customer service... not so much (they should plant some secret cruise testers to try to call the front desk from their rooms) Its not how low you go, its how far you fall - we were both so excited about our first cruise Read Less

We were asked to join a couple for their anniversary cruise. The cruise ship was very overcrowded with more than 4,000 rude and inconsiderate guests. There were very, very few quiet spaces anywhere except our nice but tiny stateroom. Food was like eating in an army mess hall with people crowding in line and reaching in front of you for something they wanted. The food was poor unless you like mac and cheese. Many people using the dining hall had no manners or courtesy. After paying $2,000 each for this cruise, we got the mess hall dining experience unless we wanted to pay $25-$40 per meal each to eat in a "special" restaurant, a couple of which were nice. Most of the crew staff were surly, but our cabin steward was nice and did a good job. There were poor entertainment offerings. We went to a dinner theatre and ordered a tenderloin steak, medium rare, and it came to me well-done and dried out. Pools and deck spaces were overcrowded. The best parts of the cruise were the shore times at Mallorca, the Axored, and other stops reroute to Barcelona. NCL? Never again! Read Less

We chose this cruise as we had never been overseas and decided to venture out of our traditional cruises/vacations. We had always wanted to go to Portugal and explore England. As of today we still have not seen Portugal. Our itinerary was changed last minute so we didn't make a port call and our other two ports were changed so excursions that we had booked ahead now were cancelled. We had to rebook once onboard - again not enough space for those that wanted to go. Plus I had to spend most of my days waiting in line. The ship capacity did not allow you to take part in all of the entertainment on board or dining facilities. You had to stand in line to make reservations for everything and plan ahead. We were on vacation - not on a schedule --- We were used to going to a show if you wanted to on a particular day - not signing up ahead, then when you arrived - (oh be early) you had to scramble for seating. The service in the dining room if you didn't do specialty dining was so-so at dinner - Lunch was terrible! Room service at breakfast not one day was correct. We had to call for something each day - (ie. silverware, food items) Housekeeping - Really! We arrived in New York to board and had to wait for some issues, only to get on to find rooms were not cleaned - they had an extra 2 hours --- Not to tell you that - that night we went to retire for the night only to find out our bed had not been stripped and cleaned - get the picture --- Again back to guest relations to stand in line - another 2 hours later - Guest relations on board couldn't keep up with the problems and then when we returned to get our credit that was promised - we are still awaiting - 4 months later to rectify the refund. WE Definitely would not recommend Norwegian to any - and we had done many cruises with them before - but their lack of service to customers - well, there just isn't any - they are out for $ only. Treated like cattle on embarking took 2 hrs. Bistro closed at 2oc. Didnt get on till then. Room was dirty when we finally got in. Service at night in dining room was terrible took nearly 2 hrs and food was cold. The whole ship got sick with a cold virus. No news from outside world. Only cruise information was at midday from captain that was so quiet you couldnt hear it. Theatre shows were really bad, except for one the Witches show. Three tenors were amazing as well. Crew cast female singer was really bad. Same entertainment in same bars at same times every night. One female singer in piano bar was worse than me and thats bad. Need i go on....if you were to ask anyone who was on this cruise i know they would be of the same opinion not many happy travellers on this cruise. Italians dont have any idea on organisation of any activity. Shower would scald you one minuite then freeze you the next. I had a bad experience with a loose chair seat b4 this cruise only to find more tgan 50% of the chairs in bistro were loose. Upon complaining i was told yes we know madam but if we took them all out to fix them ee wouldn't have any chairs left and our saftey officer is not around. So they were prepared to be sued for an injury. Go figure.... Read Less

No chairs on deck 7 under shelter to sit away from the pool area. Pay for movies Pay for everything extra Can’t go to the front of ship unless you are a top 16 or exclusive. Meals in the restaurant are tiny you have to order double and are cold. Meals in buffet are cold Drinks waiter at table 532 can’t understand a word of English Caos with getting on the ship. So many different stations that it all could have been done at the first one. Long cattle line queues No one to greet you when you get on board Didn’t even realise there was a cruise director. Didn’t hear or see her until the show on the second night and she was as interesting as a wet dish cloth. The whole ticketing system. You need a ticket for this or a ticket or that. While this was ok it was very confusing Couldn’t buy just a water package when on board had to buy another drinks package with less tickets. Ordered and pre paid for a bottle of wine and birthday cake to be in the room when we got on. It wasn’t. Had to ask for it 3 times before we finally received it in the restaurant and again we had to ask for it. The restaurant in squashed in like sardines. Have to pass own knives, forks and plates to other people on table for waiter as he can’t fit through. Head of house keeping should be very ashamed Opted for the laundry package once on board but they ruined all the clothes. The paid for the clothes to be washed and ironed but a 2 year old kid could have done a better job. The outside screen was never on and was told it was broken. The whole ship came down with a virus but there was not infection control to help contain it. We are still recover at home some 2 weeks later. Worst ship ever. Grand voyage my but there was nothing grand about it. We have cruise many times with other cruise lines this one just doesn’t match up to any other will never sail with them again. Read Less

We initially chose this particular cruise because of the lovely itinerary and for a special pre retirement holiday. We had cruised with MSC three times previously and although it was not the best quality cruise line it was always an acceptable standard, reasonably priced and had good itineraries. Right from the start of this cruise things were not managed well, the cruise started in Durban South Africa and finished in Venice. We arrived for embarkation and the queues were the longest we had ever seen, it was a very hot day and there was very little shelter from the sun and no where to sit. Passengers of all ages were standing in lines for nearly two hours before getting onboard. Once on board we were told we had to join another very long queue in the theatre to sign for our drinks vouchers, we normally purchase a drink package but were advised that ships sailing from South Africa were unable to sell these. After another hour in a line we managed to pick up the vouchers we had already preordered and already paid for. When we had had a couple of days onboard and met other passengers it was soon apparent some passengers had been able to purchase a drinks package and staff were unable to explain this. A few days into the cruise many passengers were becoming unwell with a respiratory illness, hygiene standards onboard were very poor and the food quality and quantity were the worst we had experienced. No water was served in the dining rooms, we had to purchase a bottle of water if we wanted water to drink and food was only warm when served, the poor dining staff had to keep taking meals back to be reheated. For the last week of the cruise all the good wine had run out, nothing was restocked and passengers were forced to drink cheap unpleasant wine which was less to buy than the value of the prepaid vouchers. Many people had vouchers left over because of this and were told they were non refundable.The ship did not have sufficient staff and those they had were overworked and tired, several were unwell and they were all trying their best to cope and very apologetic. I caught the virus onboard and became very unwell and needed to visit the doctor, he was from the Ukraine did not communicate very well and ended up giving me the incorrect treatment which could have caused me harm, I’m still waiting to find out. Fortunately for me my daughter is a doctor in England and I managed to contacted her after two days and she was able to tell me not to continue with the treatment. The entertainment was very poor quality and we ended up not bothering with it and sitting in a quit bar to save our ears! Disembarkation was worse than the embarkation, the luggage was taking an exceptionally long time to come off the ship, we were lucky we had time and our transfer was good enough to wait over an hour for us but some unfortunate people missed flights. We chose this cruise because it left from Durban, South Africa which allowed us to tick off a stay at Kruger National Park as well as a visit to Petra in Jordan. The cruise embarkation in Durban would have to have been the longest, most shambolic and most disorganised we have EVER experienced. The staff, apparently (or so we were told) were new. All we can say is that they hadn't been trained properly (if at all) or they were just inept. They were unfriendly, even to the point of being surly, they had NO idea what they were doing and didn't, really, even seem to care. The LIFE BOAT drill was a joke apart from showing the passengers how to put on their life vests the rest was a garbled, incomprehensible mess, delivered over the loudspeakers (and that's an overstatement, you could hardly hear them) At dinner the waiters were inefficient and had no idea how to serve. Bread was offered from a basket, and bad luck if you were the last served, you got whatever was left. White wine was just left on the table - you had to ask for an ice bucket. Water - you had to buy a bottle or go without, tea or coffee - again you had to buy it or go without. The food was poorly presented and poorly cooked - the choice was limited. The Maitre D was a rude and arrogant man who stood around doing nothing. Tender, at, mercifully the one port, was horrendous - the ship docked at 8.00am, we got off at 12.30pm. Laundry - in by 10.00am, promised for a return by 5.00pm the next day - more likely by 5.00pm 4 days later (and then, only after repeated complaints, to out cabin steward) The lecturers, consisted of just TWO people - a charming lady who talked about the various ports and a gentleman who talked about boats, ships etc. - he was very interesting but he had all the delivery skills of a wet lettuce. The ENTERTAINMENT in the theatre was good - although a lack of LIVE music or stage sets was rather disappointing as was the brevity around 30 minutes. The Cruise Director insisted on introducing each show in about 5 languages - she droned on and on and on The Captain - was a ghost, saw him once. The ship in general, was reasonable, although the pools were rather limited and there was no poolside dining options as with other ships. An oddity was that on the quite wide promenade deck - NOT one chair was to be seen, not one. The one good thing was their alcohol prices - the cheapest we've ever experienced. OMG - for me to EVER travel on MSC again - they'd have to be dirt cheap or be taken over by PRINCESS CRUISES. Read Less

Ship is very beautiful and well laid out - enjoyed the central elevators. Service staff was exceptional - excluding the Excursion Desk (unless). Very disappointed in the food served - the Italian influence was missing - I have traveled in Europe and did not recognize this reported influence - a staff person reported that being a repositioning cruise the quality was diminished. This was Basic Transportation - pure and simple. During our 19 days we got sick on day 5 and remained sick for the next 4 weeks. Everyone on the ship had or have had this virus. Other than Purel stations placed in the buffet area little or precautionary measures were visible. I did email to Costa Customer Service about my experience - got a letter back that in summary said they would use the feedback for future travelers and 'To Bad - come back again sometime' - Never again Read Less

My father died during the cruise and I needed to amend my travel arrangements. The front desk staff were terrible and it took over 3 days to sort new departure arrangements. I received conflicting information from onboard Front desk staff and onshore Princess staff. Princess gave no credit for existing return flight and I had to pay for a new full fare that was exchanged from Aust$ to US$ to NZ$. The air carrier advised my family that Princess as travel agent had full discretion in making no or little penalty charges to travel. No discretion was applied. I would not recommend Princess on this basis. There was relentless onboard promotion for buying jewellery (Effy) and artworks which was tedious. Food was good and plentiful, entertainment was a bit ho hum - one comedian was absolutely dreadful and the second relied on old hack and tired women-as stupid content. There were two production shows which were excellent. Musicians played similar and in a lot of cases the same songs (how many times can you listen to Hey Jude?!) Onboard activities were limited with the same things recycled through the cruise - movies (same movies returned too frequently); bingo; quizzes (I'm a quiz fan but the same format and type of questions were used across three quiz events, and the events were bumped in face of venue conflict); demonstrations such as cocktail making was view only. Cards as an activity was good (bridge; 500) as there were a fair number of people interested therefore plenty of opportunity to play. However this was organised by participants. I feel entertainment staff often opted out of organising activities, so it dependent on participants to get things going. Venues appeared to be mismanaged in that the act and or audience size wasn't appropriate to the particular venue used. Enrichment activities were limited to forensic topics (potentially good however presenter was poor and used promotional material as evidence) and others were directly linked to the sale of jewellery and artworks. Did two excursions - whole day Moorea swimming and snorkeling which was excellent and the LA Venice Beach and Santa Monica visits. Definitely wouldn't recommend Venice Beach as a destination (old; tired; dirty; broken; grotty) but Santa Monica was nice to walk around (shops; pier; beach) Read Less

Show times were inconvenient, with no show available after dinner. They were very prompt to close buffet and it was very annoying to have people cleaning around you while you are eating. We thought Celebrity was a cut above but we had better service on Holland America. Shows were average ,but heavy on acrobatics. The wine package was expensive compared to other cruises and drinks overall . They had a good combo playing on board. We were told we would have open seating for dinner, but it was not really available. If this is important to you, it is not something they really have. The cruise itself was great. The rooms are large and well appointed, and the food is overall pretty excellent. It's amazing that we were at sea for more than a week, and yet they were still able to provide outstanding fruits and salads. The Thomas Keller restaurant is intimate and outstanding and worth doing at least once during the cruise, and there's no extra charge. The service was very good. It's not the same standard I've experienced on past Seabourn trips. I remember staff throughout the ship would greet me by name, even on a first encounter. That made a huge impression and spoke to a level of excellence. After all, if the staff knows your name, they will remember other things about you too, like what you tend to drink or eat. That leads to anticipatory service - you are offered what you want, before you even ask for it. That level of service seems to be gone on Seabourn. Still, it's outstanding by most measures. The passengers on a long crossing tend to be a different crowd than you'll find on shorter cruises. Frankly, they're friendlier. There's so much time to get to know people, and we really enjoyed the passengers we met. But ultimately our trip was spoiled when my belongings vanished when transferred from the ship to shore in Lisbon. I would find out much later that my luggage ended up being mixed in with other passengers' valuables and put in a taxi. The response to my missing belongings was troubling. At the pier I was placated with false promises of an immediate response. Then in an effort to get me to move along, Seabourn gave me a number to call for help and an email address. No one answered the phone and the automated response from the email told me I'd get a reply within two weeks. No one responded to my requests for information until after I posted publicly on social media after an entire day of silence. Then there was a bunch of blaming of local pier workers, who Seabourn had hired, but then acted like those workers were an entity out of their control or responsibility. In the end, fellow passengers and their travel agent solved the problem of my missing belongings. I spent two days of my three-day visit to Lisbon dealing with the problem, which included meeting with the Portuguese police. Other passengers I met on the Odyssey told me later that they also had problems with wayward belongings. When I heard that I was not alone, I followed up with Seabourn's corporate office, and wrote a personal letter to the company president. I received a we're-sorry-you-feel-that-way response. That's pathetic, and a sign that upper management has no intention of dealing with a very serious security gap. My advice: enjoy the ship, but don't trust Seabourn with your valuables. This was to be the cruise of a lifetime. A chance for my wife to visit some of the many places I had visited while on business travel. Titled by Oceania “Museums to Mosaics” We called it the “Cruise from Hell” along with some other long time (29 Oceania cruises) cruisers. Things stated going downhill at our second port – Halifax. It was very cold and started snowing as were leaving the port. The next morning there was over a foot of snow on the swimming pool and deck. Many of the crew members had never seen snow and found it fascinating. The visit to St Johns, Newfoundland was canceled due to stormy weather. My wife had lived in Newfoundland 50 years ago and was anxious to see how it had changed over the years. All in all it was a very disappointing start to the cruise. Crossing the Atlantic in the heavy seas for five days did get many people quite queasy, which led to distributing barf bags by the elevators. It was rough enough that safety belts for the beds would have been appreciated. People had to hold on to the railings and walls to go along the corridors to keep from falling. When we arrived in Cork, Ireland the wind was very strong with sideways rain and very cold. Fortunately the Jameson Distillery tour was indoors. The visit to Dublin for the next day was canceled due to heavy seas and gale force winds so we spent the day in our cabin in Cork. The next disappointment was arriving in London/South Hampton on Good Friday. I had really wanted my wife to at least have a brief visit in London. This meant there was to be no visit after planning on it for a year and half (since we had booked the trip). We were not informed of the no London tours until I asked the Destination Services manager when we were going to be able to select them on the cruise. We had asked out travel agent prior to the trip when we were going to be able to schedule a London tour (like all the others we preselected) but were told we had to wait until we got on the ship. Then we then proceeded to visit Bordeaux on Easter Monday, which is a celebrated holiday in France, with practically everything closed. The next stop in Biarritz was canceled due to heavy seas in the Bay of Biscay (that precluded using tenders to disembark). I guess Oceania is not aware that the Bay of Biscay is notorious for rough seas. The last straw was visiting Malaga on May Day, May 1st – another holiday with the shops closed. The tour was supposed to be easy – the guide had very poor English skills and appeared to be trying out for the Olympic speed walking team. My wife had to sit down and wait for the tour to return with no available free rest rooms. To Summarize: Cruise Length 28 days Sea days 8 scheduled (11 total) Missed ports 3 total Stop not available due holiday 1 (London) Ports limited due to holiday 3 I understand that Oceania does not control the weather. However, they do control the scheduling. In previous years the “repositioning cruise” had been scheduled in May. If the cruise had been scheduled just a week later, Good Friday would have been at sea, Easter would have been in Cork and London would have been available for a visit. I had expected that Oceania would take holidays into account when scheduling trips and try to optimize passenger enjoyment. I guess I was wrong. The message this sends is that passenger satisfaction is a sorry second to revenue maximization. Oceania does many things quite well. The food is good albeit somewhat uneven in the specialty restaurants. The desserts in the Grand dining Room are superb and the crew members we interacted with were well trained, friendly and courteous. The entertainment was much better than previous cruises and the comedian (Martin Beaumont) was terrific in both his shows. We paid over $30,000 for what we consider a $15,000 cruise at best. I had hoped Oceania would have reached out to people who had done the 28 day cruise but after 2 ½ weeks we have heard nothing from Oceania. Never again do we plan cruising on Oceania or any of its’ related lines. Postscript: We did complain to Oceania thru our travel agent and received a very disappointing self serving reply offering a $600 total ship credit on another cruise. Read Less

My wife and I have sailed on the Explorer of the Seas for multiple cruises and had high expectations for the 4 B2B Odyssey cruise that was offered from Sydney to Southampton, UK from March 29th to May 7th. Those expectations have not been achieved. Due to a high number of older and more experienced cruisers, who are apparently much more tight with the pocketbook, we have had many of the venues we enjoyed stopped or marginalized for Royal Caribbean to cater to their Diamond and Diamond plus cruisers at the expense of anyone lower. Bingo was stopped due to low participation, yet the problem, was very little advertising, playing Australian versus US Bingo, low payouts and constant switching of the venue time and location. The Casino has been lightly attended and part of that was the introduction of new slots with higher minimums. They even increased the minimums on the Blackjack tables. They refused to change out card decks if a player requested it. If you wanted to play craps many times one would have to play alone and only late in the evening. Many of the scheduled poker, blackjack and slot tournaments were canceled due to lack of minimum players. Even when we tried to recruit more players to come, the ship refused to broadcast that we were seeking a few more players to play. Complaints to the CD were dismissed by his saying that the decisions were coming out of Miami. Laundry was refused due to being in the wrong bag. (It was a plastic bag for a special one cost for the bag that our steward had left us earlier and we had not utilized but they only ran on certain days versus the higher cost itemized laundry bag.) This has been a very disappointing cruise, and seems to be getting worse as it goes on. Since this was 4 B2B instead for just one repositioning cruise, the entertainment was stale by the second leg of the trip. Timing was not very well coordinated with other activities like meals. We enjoyed the enthusiasm of the entertainment staff but the Cruise Director and Asst. Cruise Director tended to act like a couple of juveniles with a morning show that was a level of entertainment not much above that of juveniles. Sort of Bennie Hill type of humor. Maybe the geriatric crowd aboard Royal Caribbean on these repositioning cruises love this sort of stupid antics but I found it demeaning at many times. My recommendations are not to take the repositioning cruises on Royal Caribbean unless you are a Diamond or above in their Crown and Anchor Society. it just does not pay to be onboard. Read Less

This was the worst cruise we have ever had. Missed two stops, they said it was too rough, CRAP, just too many old people who would have been a pain to get them off. Food was poor, i got sick from Japanese. Italian was frozen pasta. We sent our washing to the laundry, and they lost all our clothes, so when we got off the ship, we had no clothes for three days, in Singapore. We contacted them when we got home, and they insulted us by saying they will only pay us 60% of the cost of our clothes. NOT GOOD ENOUGH! Room was clean, but every morning, we would be woken up by loud banging, them fixing pipes in the walls that were leaking. The hand basin leaked into my cosmetics bag, and destroyed lots of items. Once again, they didnt care. I tried to buy a drinks package before we got on the ship, as they said it was cheaper to do before, but they locked me out 2 days before we were to go on the cruise, so we got stung a huge price when we got it on board. We spent over $3500 on board, and this is how we got treated. I wrote to them telling them all the issues we had, and not a response....... Never ever ever again....... I agree with nearly all the comments made in the reviews regarding the 1st leg. We felt like 2nd class citizens. Most staff were under trained but about half were smiling and friendly. Only watchable TV in English was News and documentaries on China's CGTN network. Entertainment was quite poor with the best act being a comedy magician on the night before disembarkation. No milk or fridge in our cabin. We could only use our balcony when at sea since there was always cleaning, painting & maintenance being done while in port and the balconies on deck 2 were used as a through way for staff so the extra cost for the balcony was not good value. Why does a brand new ship need painting? Mandatory €10 per person per day (including disembarkation day) for "Service Charge" plus another service charge on any drinks and food purchased. Mixing cultures and too many languages really doesn't work for me. Every announcement was repeated in about 5 languages and the behaviour of some passengers in the buffet restaurant beggars belief with pushing and piling plates to overflowing with one type of food and thus quickly depleting amount left for other people. We've sailed with a fair number of cruise lines and therefore we have something to judge Costa against. One gets the impression that Costa's aim was to relieve passengers of as much money as possible. This was the worst cruise we have been on and no way will be sail with Costa again. Read Less

After cruising for many years with Princess my partner and I were disappointed with the lay out of this ship, their seemed to be not enough staff for the amount of passengers on board, most places we visited on board did not have enough seating, the ship was designed the Chinees market and it shows with the conversions of the public such as the vista lounge once part of the casino and another now bar also was the high rollers as you will see by the amount of surveillance cameras in the rooms, far to much Chinees writing hard to know were you are in the lift with the English/Chinese writing, we had the opportunity to have dinner in the French restaurant the food and service was good, the location of this restaurant was not good in a walk way I sat looking at a till, was told they were booked out so had to eat at 18:30! this was not the case only two couples in when we arrived, the walk way running along side was very busy and noisy, would not recommend this ship. The older people had a lot of trouble navigating on the tours as there was a lot of uneven ground. The food in the main dining room is awful and is quite repetitive. A lot of fried unhealthy foods. Choices are also limited. The restaurant is very good. The staff in every area is excellent. They greet you with a smile even if they are not in direct contact with you. They are very accommodating with whatever your request. Also the laundry is very fast and efficient. The HAL tours have been good but only chose a few as they were very overpriced. Choose to do mainly private tours at a quarter of the price. Was very happy with this decision. Read Less

We choose this ship for the iternary but it was awful. The food was really bad, the dining room was like a cafe and none of the food was very hot. We had a balcony room which was much smaller than other cruise lines and there was a fault with all balcony doors on our side of the ship (port) they wouldn't open. The steward showed us how you had to bash the top of the door before it would release. The general areas the air con was very cold and you couldnt sit anywhere without a cardigan or jumper. Lots of people were going down with colds and chest infections. My husband got pneumonia and spent the night in the hospital on board ship and the next day the doctor said he would like us to go to the local hospital for a chest x-ray and blood tests which we did. We were met at the hospital by the port agent who said that MSC would not let my husband back onboard, the x-ray etc was just a ruse to get him off the ship. The port agent found me a hotel near the hospital which was nothing less than a DSS hotel. The landlady showed me how to put a chair under my door for safety. When I went back to the ship to collect our luggage I had to see the guest services manager. She said that I had to sign a form saying we were getting off the ship voluntarily. I said this was not the case, she said that I had to sign the form otherwise they couldn't release our passports in other words blackmail. When I got back to our room to pack the mini bar was already locked and i found on the cabin bill I had been charged for drinks, I said that this wasn't the case as we had all inclusive drinks package. The guest services manager said that we would have to pay the bill. I was also stopped at the gangplank as they had to make sure that I didn't owe money this was done in front of about 20 people. The port agent never contacted me I had to contact them, I was in a country where I didn't speak English, husband in hospital and could only speak to insurance company on a mobile for 12 days. As far as the port agents know I am still in Corfu. Don't rely on port agents being any help. Read Less

We chose this cruise to escape the late winter early spring weather and on price and the ships itinerary. The beginning, after being picked up at our Venice hotel we were dropped at Venice airport to wait around for two hours without any information before being herded on to a fleet of buses for a 90 minute journey to Trieste. This is where the confused disorderly nightmare got worse we where dumped with thousands of other passengers in a massive car park with no queuing system in place no queue marshals no Costa staff to organize fair queuing, it just became a very unpleasant fight to retain a place in the queue with many people just pushing in. It took us three and a half hours of queuing to check in without being offered a drink or toilets being available, we were lucky that it was not raining nor hot and sunny, otherwise the experience could have been much worse. When we did manage to board the ship the chaos continued, we were instructed to go to our muster stations at least 4 times only for the exercise to be repeatedly cancelled, eventually we tried to attend the evacuation procedure, however the stair wells were blocked with other passengers on each occasion and this made it impossible for many passengers to get to the correct muster stations. like many other passengers we missed the emergency drill completely. The Cabin, ours was internal with a big comfortable bed otherwise the cabin was small and lacked storage, one small wardrobe with 8 coat hangers , the shower was good plenty of hot water. Dining, Poor quality food mainly cold, plenty of Queuing. Entertainment, Second rate. Shore Excursions,poor and a total rip off. Service, our cabin steward was excellent (Berco), some of the bar staff were very good. Read Less

We were looking for an alternative to cross the Atlantic other than by plane to avoid the jetlag. As this sailing fit in our time schedule we booked a cruise on Costa Deliziosa leaving Ft. Lauderdale March 03. -To begin with the ship: Costa Deliziosa is an eldery lady in need of a thorough make-over. The entire interior decor and design was retro. - Our cabin, which was a so-called Samsara balcony cabin mid forward looked tired and worn with stains on the old carpet and a shower curtain not properly fastened. Worse, the bedding reeked, and the linens were worn and had holes in them. The blankets were flimsy and not warm enough. - The food at the restaurant was mostly overcooked or too salty and poorly presented. So after a week we simply changed to buffet style for more selection but still had issues with the quality of the food, During the entire cruise the fruit consisted of old and beyond shelf-life plums, nectarines and oranges or fruit salad with stale melons. - We had booked a shore excursion to the island of Gordo in the Dom.Rep. which turned out to be quite hazardous due to very slippery rocks and rickety steps inside and through the caves. In Costa's tour description these hazards were not mentioned. - A week into the cruise we and a large number of other passengers contracted a severe bronchitis which made treatment at the ship hospital necessary. Yet, the ship management undertook no extra measures to contain the spreading of the disease or making sure that every passenger used the disinfectant displayed in public areas and restaurants. We saw people grabbing food at the buffet with their fingers! - Disembarking procedures in Venice were chaotic. There was no proper information and people were kept in large groups in different locations for hours to wait. So we finally took things in our hands and left the ship so as not to miss our connecting train. In comparison to other cruises we did with other cruise lines like MeinSchiff, Holland America and Princess this was the worst experience ever. Needless to say we wrote a detailed letter of complaint to Costa Cruises. And also needless to say their answer was non-committal as expected. Read Less
